Abstract (sommario):
The X-ray reflectometry (XR), as a non-destructive method, is a powerful tool in obtaining information about parameters of thin films such as thickness, average density and interface roughness. In this paper Cu/Au, Au/Cu and Cu/Ag multilayer thin films (where the total thickness is less then 1000Å) are presented. The multilayer films are obtained by thermal evaporation in a UHV system, on the silicon substrate. The experimental XR curves contained critical angle and classical Kiessig’s fringes. For these materials the density (), the thickness () and interface roughness () information for every layer separately were calculated. The experimental reflectometry curves were analyzed using the WinGixa programme X’Pert software. The values of layer density show that they are reached in neighbor density and it is connected with the creation of the Cu-Au or Ag-Cu interlayer reached into Cu, Au or Ag, respectively. The analysis of roughness show that there are comparable to roughness of substrate only for 2-3 first layers. Further the roughness of Cu, Au, Ag layers are increasing. The comparison of results show that increasing of Ag an Au roughness is bigger than Cu.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study, Ca0.9Yb0.1MnO3 + x wt.% Ag (with x = 0, 1, 3, 5, and 10) thermoelectric materials were prepared via the classical ceramic method. In spite of the very high sintering temperature (1300 °C), no significant Ag losses were observed following this process. Moreover, Ag addition enhanced cation mobility during sintering due to the formation of a liquid phase. Microstructurally, it was found that Ag decreases porosity; this was confirmed by density measurements. Ag was also found to promote the formation of a Ca2Mn2O5 secondary phase. Despite the presence of this secondary phase, samples with Ag displayed lower electrical resistivity than Ag-free ones, without a drastic decrease in the absolute Seebeck coefficient. The highest thermoelectric performances, which were determined by power factor, were obtained in 1 wt.% Ag samples. These maximum values are slightly higher than the best of those reported in the literature for sintered materials with similar compositions, with the additional advantage of their being obtained using a much shorter sintering procedure.

Abstract (sommario):
Three classical electrochemical techniques such as the pulsed potentiostatic method, cyclic voltammetry, and galvanostatic method were used to study the Ag morphology on glassy carbon disk electrode. The results of the three electrochemical methods were compared and the possible formation mechanism of fractal phenomena was discussed. It was found that cyclic voltammetry, and galvanostatic method are mild, convenient, fast and efficient method to prepare silver fractal structures.

Abstract (sommario):
From the beginning of Shang Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty the development of Chinese classical landscape gardens went through five periods: the formation period of Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han Dynasties, the transition period of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the heyday of Tang Dynasty, the maturity period of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the middle and end of Qing Dynasty. Five thousand years of glorious Chinese culture makes Chinese classical gardens different from Western gardens and Islamic gardens. The unique garden system and style give rise to the unique and profound Chinese classical garden system in world history. Based on the history of Chinese classical gardens, the paper focuses on the historical background of the development of the Song garden, the characteristics of typical gardens and literati gardens in the two Song dynasties, in order to understand the development process of the Song garden more deeply. Under the condition of learning and understanding, the method and concept characteristics of classical garden design in Song Dynasty are inherited and applied to modern garden planning and design.

Abstract (sommario):
Metal nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted growing attention in recent years for electronic packaging applications. Ag NPs have emerged as a promising low-temperature bonding material owing to their unique characteristics. In this study, we mainly review our research progress on the interconnection of using polyol-based Ag NPs for electronic packaging. The synthesis, sintering-bonding process, bonding mechanism, and high-temperature joint properties of Ag NP pastes are investigated. The paste containing a high concentration of Ag NPs was prepared based on the polyol method and concentration. A nanoscale layer of organic components coated on the NPs prevents the coalescence of Ag NPs. The effects of organic components on the bondability of the Ag NP paste were studied. Compared to the aqueous-based Ag NP paste, the polyol-based Ag NP with the reduction of organic component can improve the bondability, and the coffee ring effect was successfully depressed due to the increased Marangoni flow. The sintering behaviors of Ag NPs during the bonding process were investigated using the classical sphere-to-sphere approach. The mechanical property of joints using this Ag paste was better than that using Pb95Sn5 solders after storage at high temperatures. The sintering–bonding technology using polyol-based Ag NPs was helpful to the low-temperature interconnection for electronic packaging applications.

Abstract (sommario):
Ionic polymer–metal composites (IPMCs) have attracted attention in recent years due to their integration of actuation and sensing functions. As one of the main sensing functions of IPMCs, humidity sensing has been of consistent interest in wearable health monitors and artificial skin. However, there are still some technical challenges in that classical IPMCs have poor humidity sensing performance due to their dense surface electrode, and IPMCs are damaged easily due to an electrode/membrane mismatch. In this work, through the spraying and electrodepositing process, we developed an efficient method to rapidly prepare a Au-shell-Ag-NW (silver nanowire)-based IPMC with high strength, low surface resistance and excellent humidity sensing performance. Meanwhile, we optimized the preparation method by clarifying the influence of solvent type and electrodepositing time on the performance of the Au-shell-Ag-NW-based IPMC, thus effectively improving the humidity sensing effect and strength of the IPMC. Compared with previous research, the humidity electrical response (~9.6 mV) of the Au-shell-Ag-NW-based IPMC is at least two orders of magnitude higher than that of the classical IPMC (~0.41 mV), which is mainly attributed to the sparse gap structure for promoting the exchange of water molecules in the environment and Nafion membrane, a low surface resistance (~3.4 Ohm/sq) for transmitting the signal, and a seamless connection between the electrode and Nafion membrane for fully collecting the ion charges in the Nafion membrane. Additionally, the Au-shell-Ag-NW-based IPMC could effectively monitor the human breathing process, and the humidity sensing performance did not change after being exposed to the air for 4 weeks, which further indicates that the Au-shell-Ag-NW-based IPMC has good application potential due to its efficient preparation technology, high stability and good reproducibility.

Abstract (sommario):
Silver-incorporated europium oxide thin films have been prepared by the successive evaporation method on quartz and silicon substrates. The silver concentration was 2.5% and 8.9% respectively, as measured by X-ray fluorescence. X-ray diffraction revealed that the Eu oxide of these samples remained amorphous after preannealing at 450°C; however, it crystallized in bcc structure at 800°C. The lattice parameter of the crystallized Eu oxide was larger than that of the bulk, due to the adsorption of Ag + ions, which have a higher ionic radius. The optical absorption of the samples manifested the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomenon, which varied with the Ag content and preannealings of the samples at different temperatures. The Ag nanoparticle radius was estimated with the Mie classical theory by using the SPR data analysis.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We sought a quicker and easier method for the isolation of B cells enriched for a given Ag specificity. Here, we report our results using transgenic mice bearing mu- and kappa-transgenes that encode an IgR against the hapten phosphorylcholine. Splenic B cells from such mice had a high percentage of phosphorylcholine-binding cells and differentiated in vitro in response to T cell hybridomas in an Ag-specific, Ia-restricted manner. Supernatants from such in vitro cultures could not transfer helper activity, nor could the T cell be replaced in other ways tried when using a classical T-dependent Ag. These results support the model of a cognate interaction between T and B cell, and we present evidence that the interaction may consist of two or more steps.

Abstract (sommario):
The L-subshell ionization cross sections and total L–X-ray production cross sections for the Ag atom by the electron impact near the ionization threshold were calculated with a classical-trajectory Monte Carlo method. The results were compared with experimental data, quantum mechanical calculations, and the cross sections by positron impact. It was demonstrated that the classical treatments are useful for electron–atom collisions at energies higher than about six times the binding energies of target electrons but overestimate L-shell ionization and L–X-ray production cross sections at low energies near the threshold. Possible reasons for this discrepancy are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Application of cyclic renewable amalgam silver-based electrode (Hg(Ag)FE) for sensitive metronidazole detection by the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) is described. The unique properties of the Hg(Ag)FE such as the relative large surface area and its fast and very simple renewal were fully utilized for sensitive measurements. Compared with the classical hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE), the renewable Hg(Ag)FE significantly increases the reduction peak current of metronidazole because of its large surface area. The effects of various factors for the metronidazole determination such as: pulse height and width, step potential, surface area of the working electrode, and basic electrolyte composition are optimized. The obtained calibration graph is linear from 0.1 (17 ?g L-1) to 2 ?M (342 ?g L-1) with correlation coefficient 0.999. For the Hg(Ag)FE with the surface area of 10.1 mm2 the limit of detection (LOD) is 20 nM (3.4 ?g L-1). The repeatability of the method at a concentration of the analyte of 0.5 ?M (5.6 ?g L?1), expressed as relative standard deviation (RSD) is 2.1 % (n = 7). The proposed method was successfully applied and confirmed by studying recovery of metronidazole from spiked samples.

Abstract (sommario):
The presented paper deals with comparison of spur gears classical and modern hardening process of the bending fatigue properties. It concerned particularly the hardened surface of the tooth flank using optical source of electromagnetic radiation. The results of fatigue tests were obtained on a servo-hydraulic testing machine LFV 100 kN made by walter+bai ag. These tests were defined by the standard ISO 6336 as method B, when testing is carried out under reference conditions close to the real operation. Comparison of test samples is also carried out on the basic of the achieved local hardness and hardened layer thickness in the tooth root, which is an initiation of fatigue crack.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract A new silver-based composite material with an addition of 1 and 10 mass % of rhenium, for prospective application in the production of electric contacts, has been presented. The paper shows results of the research and experimental works aimed at developing technology for fabrication of semiproducts (wires and bimetallic contacts) by classical powder metallurgy methods and by a method enabling production of nanocrystalline composite. At each stage of the processes involved, physical, mechanical and technological properties of the materials were investigated. Particular attention was given to final products and semiproducts prepared in a form of bimetallic contacts. It was found that the composite with nanocrystalline structure may be a good material for ecological electric contacts.

Abstract (sommario):
We have developed a method for separating the deglycosylated protein/peptide backbones of the small arabinogalactan (AG)-peptides from the larger classical arabinogalactan-proteins (AGPs). AGPs are an important class of plant proteoglycans implicated in plant growth and development. Separation of AG-peptides enabled us to identify eight of 12 AG-peptides fromArabidopsis thalianapredicted from genomic sequences. Of the remaining four, two have low abundance based on expressed sequence tag databases and the other two are only present in pollen (At3g20865) or flowers (At3g57690) and therefore would not be detected in our analysis. Characterization of AG-peptides was performed using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry protein sequencing. These data provide (i) experimental evidence that AG-peptides are processedin vivofor the addition of a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor, (ii) cleavage site information for both the endoplasmic reticulum secretion signal and the GPI-anchor signal for eight of the 12 AG-peptides, and (iii) experimental evidence that the Gly-Pro motif is hydroxylatedin vivo. Furthermore, we show that AtAGP16 is GPI-anchored despite its unusually long hydrophobic C-terminal GPI-signal sequence. Prior to this work, the GPI-anchor cleavage site for only two plant proteins, NaAGP1 fromNicotiana alataand PcAGP1 fromPyrus communis, had been determined experimentally. Characterization of the post-translational modifications of AG-peptides contributes toward obtaining the complete primary structure of this class of biologically important plant proteoglycans and provides a greater understanding of post-translational modifications of plant proteins.

Abstract (sommario):
Based on the analysis of the literature and our own ideas using general logical methods of analysis and synthesis, information is presented on the advisability of a broad interpretation of the content of the term "epidemiology", which at the present stage includes two sections with a uniform research methodology: the epidemiology of infectious diseases and the epidemiology of non-infectious diseases. The features that distinguish the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases from classical infectious epidemiology are shown. Attention is paid to evidence-based medicine, the theoretical basis of which is clinical epidemiology. Proposals on the need to introduce a course of epidemiology of non-infectious pathology into the educational process of training specialists in biomedical profile are substantiated as a perspective of epidemiology and the epidemiological method of research in modern conditions.

Abstract (sommario):
Au-Ag noble metal wastes represent a wide range of waste types and forms with various ballast elements and components. The thiourea process of gold and silver extraction from ores, concentrates or secondary raw materials consists of gold and silver leaching into the thiourea solution and the consequent precipitation of these metals from the solution. Due to the non-toxic character of thiourea it is the perspective alternative to the up to now most frequently used cyanide method. The thiourea leaching of gold and silver from electronic waste, goldsmith’s waste and ceramic waste using crushing as the pretreatment step was investigated. For electronic waste, it was possible to achieve 97 % gold and 94 % silver recovery within 120 minutes of thiourea leaching. Up to 98 % of gold and 96 % of silver were recovered from goldsmith’s waste after 60 minutes of leaching. In the case of ceramic waste, we achieved up to 98 % gold and 97 % silver extraction efficiency after only 45 minutes of leaching. In comparison with the classical cyanide leaching, thiourea leaching acts faster and without a harmful environmental impact.

Abstract (sommario):
The method of synthesis of bimetallic Pd–Ag pentagonally structured catalyst “nanostar” on the surface of Pd-23%Ag alloy films has been developed. The resulting catalyst was studied as a highly active functional layer for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in alkaline media and the intensification of hydrogen transport through the Pd-23%Ag membrane in the processes of hydrogen diffusion purification. A modifying layer with a controlled size, composition and excellent electrocatalytic activity was synthesized by electrochemical deposition at a reduced current density compared to classical methods. The low deposition rate affects the formation of pentagonally structured nanocrystallites, allowing Pd and Ag particles to form well-defined structures due to the properties of the surfactant used. Electrochemical studies have demonstrated that the catalyst synthesized by the “nanostar” method shows better electrocatalytic activity in relation to MOR and demonstrates a higher peak current (up to 17.82 µA cm−2) in comparison with one for the catalyst synthesized by the “nanoparticle” method (up to 10.66 µA cm−2) in a cyclic voltammetric study. The nanostar catalyst electrode releases the highest current density (0.25 µA cm−2) for MOR and demonstrates higher catalytic activity for the oxidation of possible intermediates such as sodium formate in MOR. In the processes of diffusion membrane purification of hydrogen, a multiple increase in the density of the penetrating flux of hydrogen through the membranes modified by the “nanostar” catalyst (up to 10.6 mmol s−1 m−2) was demonstrated in comparison with the membranes modified by the “nanoparticles” method (up to 4.49 mmol s−1 m−2). Research data may indicate that the properties of the developed pentagonally structured catalyst “nanostar” and its enhanced activity with respect to reactions involving hydrogen increase the desorption activity of the membrane, which ultimately accelerates the overall stepwise transfer of hydrogen across the membrane.

Abstract (sommario):
This article explores a neglected period in the history of classical scholarship: the first decades of the eighteenth century. It focuses on the tension between an evolving idea of method, and the tradition of personal polemic which had been an important part of the culture of scholarship since the Renaissance. There are two case studies: the conflict between Jean Le Clerc and Pieter Burman, and the controversy that followed Richard Bentley's edition of Horace's Odes. Both demonstrate the need to revise current paradigms for writing the history of scholarship, and invite us to reconsider the role of methodology in producing of scholarly authority.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background The Philadelphia chromosome−negative classical MPNs (myelofibrosis [MF], polycythemia vera [PV], and essential thrombocythemia [ET]) are associated with a pronounced symptom burden, including fatigue, night sweats, itching, and inactivity that may affect patients' HRQOL. There is a limited real-world evidence from many of the Asian countries, including Middle East, regarding the impact of MPNs on HRQOL, or the economic burden associated with these diseases. MERGE is a multinational, multicenter, nonintervention study conducted in adult patients with MPNs in Asia, including Middle East, Turkey, and Algeria. The present analysis evaluated the impact of MPNs on HRQOL of patients from MERGE and explored the association of HRQOL with the clinical outcomes and resource utilization. Method The MERGE registry included patients with MPN diagnosed as per the World Health Organization 2008 criteria. Patients were planned to be followed up for 2 years (5 visits over the course of study). MPN Symptom Assessment Form Total Symptom Score (MPNSAF TSS) was administered during the routine biannual follow-up visits to assess the HRQOL. MPNSAF TSS score was calculated only for patients who completed at least 6 of the 10 items on the MPNSAF TSS questionnaire. The level of inter-rater agreement between physicians and patients on the proportion of symptomatic patients was assessed through Cohen's Kappa coefficient. Further, an ANCOVA (Analysis of covariance) model was applied to estimate the influence of the baseline variables (age, sex, weight, height, family history of MPNs, comorbidities, time to initial MPNs diagnosis, type of MPN initial diagnosis, baseline hemoglobin and platelet count, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status [ECOG PS], and time since diagnosis to treatment initiation) on the TSS score. Variables with univariate P-value < 0.20 were included in the multivariate model. Furthermore, medical resource utilization was assessed by evaluating the inpatient and outpatient visits, hospice care, emergency room visits, and day care. Results Of the 884 eligible patients with MPNs, 169 had MF, 301 had PV, 373 had ET, and 41 had unclassified MPN. During the study, 64% of patients received hydroxyurea, 15% interferon, 15% JAK inhibitors, and 10% anagrelide either alone or in combination. At baseline, the proportion of patients presenting at least 1 of the symptoms was higher in the MF group (96.4%), compared to the total MPN patients (91.8%). In addition, the TSS (mean [SD]) at baseline was highest in the patients with MF (23.5 [17.47]) as compared to patients with ET (14.6 [14.26]) and PV (16.6 [14.84]). During the study duration and follow-up, the TSS remained approximately constant at subsequent visits. Physicians reported a lower proportion of symptomatic patients than the proportion self-reported by patients, although, there was better agreement between physicians and patients for pruritus and night sweats (Kappa, 0.61-0.80) (Table 1) than for other symptoms (Kappa, 0.41-0.60). Across MPN subtypes, inter-rater agreement was lowest for patients with MF compared to patients with ET or PV. In a multivariate adjusted mixed effect regression model, female gender, type of MPN (MF), presence of comorbidities, lower baseline hemoglobin were independently and positively associated with the symptom score values. Overall, 24.3% of the patients had at least 1 inpatient visit, with a mean duration of 11.1 days. Outpatient visits were the most commonly observed healthcare resource used (95.5%), without remarkable change during the follow-up period. Patients with ET had a lower mean number of inpatient visits (mean [SD]: 0.9 [0.77] days), and patients with MF had more outpatient visits (mean [SD]: 5.2 [3.17] visit) on an average, compared to the entire MPN group. Conclusion Despite being on treatment, patients with MPN in MERGE had substantial symptom burden, which did not change over the course of the study. A discordance between physician and patient perception of symptom assessment was seen in this study, indicating that in addition to spleen and hematological investigations, a more systematic assessment such as the use of MPNSAF TSS could help to better evaluate patients' symptoms and understand the disease and its treatment burden. Abstract (sommario):
Electron-transfer processes constitute one important limiting factor governing stability of solids. One classical case is that of CuI2, which has never been prepared at ambient pressure conditions due to feasibility of charge transfer between metal and nonmetal (CuI2 → CuI + ½ I2). Sometimes, redox instabilities involve two metal centers, e.g., AgO is not an oxide of divalent silver but rather silver(I) dioxoargentate(III), Ag(I)[Ag(III)O2]. Here, we look at the particularly interesting case of a hypothetical AgCl2 where both types of redox instabilities operate simultaneously. Since standard redox potential of the Ag(II)/Ag(I) redox pair reaches some 2 V versus Normal Hydrogen Electrode (NHE), it might be expected that Ag(II) would oxidize Cl− anion with great ease (standard redox potential of the ½ Cl2/Cl− pair is + 1.36 V versus Normal Hydrogen Electrode). However, ionic Ag(II)Cl2 benefits from long-distance electrostatic stabilization to a much larger degree than Ag(I)Cl + ½ Cl2, which affects relative stability. Moreover, Ag(II) may disproportionate in its chloride, just like it does in an oxide; this is what AuCl2 does, its formula corresponding in fact to Au(I)[Au(III)Cl4]. Formation of polychloride substructure, as for organic derivatives of Cl3− anion, is yet another possibility. All that creates a very complicated potential energy surface with a few chemically distinct minima i.e., diverse polymorphic forms present. Here, results of our theoretical study for AgCl2 will be presented including outcome of evolutionary algorithm structure prediction method, and the chemical identity of the most stable form will be uncovered together with its presumed magnetic properties. Contrary to previous rough estimates suggesting substantial instability of AgCl2, we find that AgCl2 is only slightly metastable (by 52 meV per formula unit) with respect to the known AgCl and ½ Cl2, stable with respect to elements, and simultaneously dynamically (i.e., phonon) stable. Thus, our results point out to conceivable existence of AgCl2 which should be targeted via non-equilibrium approaches.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives.Recent investigations have suggested that upregulated levels of inflammatory biomarkers, such as chemokines, may be associated with development of many malignancies, including esophageal cancer (EC). Based on our knowledge, this study is the first to assess the serum concentration of chemokine CXCL12 and its specific receptor CXCR4 in the diagnosis of EC patients.Material and Methods. The present study included 79 subjects: 49 patients with EC and 30 healthy volunteers. The serum concentrations of CXCL12 and CXCR4 and classical tumor markers such as carcinoembryonal antigen (CEA) and squamous cell cancer antigen (SCC-Ag) were measured using immunoenzyme assays, while C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were assessed by immunoturbidimetric method. Moreover, diagnostic criteria of all proteins tested and the survival of EC patients were assessed.Results.The serum concentrations of CXCL12 were significantly higher, while those of its receptor CXCR4 were significantly lower in EC patients compared to healthy controls. The diagnostic sensitivity, negative predictive value, and accuracy of CXCR4 were the highest among all analyzed proteins and increased for combined analysis with classical tumor markers and CRP levels.Conclusion.Our findings suggest that serum CXCR4 may improve the diagnosis of EC patients, especially in combination with classical tumor markers.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract In this study the process of deposition of cadmium on polycrystalline copper electrode in sulfate solution was investigated. The process of underpotential and bulk deposition was analyzed by classical electrochemical method: cyclic voltammetry(CV), anodic stripping voltammetry(ASV) and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance(EQCM). The obtained results were compared with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) measurements. CV, EQCM and EIS results suggest that the UPD of cadmium starts below potential −0.4 V vs Ag/AgCl. Additionally the stripping analysis indicates the formation of cadmium monolayer with different density of deposited atoms depending on the applied potential. The transition from UPD to bulk deposition occurs below potential −0,7 V.

Abstract (sommario):
A method for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is reported. Fe3O4@PDA@Ag@GO is developed as the SERS substrate prepared by classical electrostatic attraction method based on the enrichment of organic compounds by graphene oxide (GO) and polydopamine (PDA) and the good separation and enrichment function of Fe3O4. The morphology and structure of the SERS substrate were represented by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the UV–visible absorption spectrum (UV–vis spectra). The effect of different temperatures on SERS during synthesis was investigated, and it was found that the best effect was achieved when the synthesis temperature was 90 °C. The effect of each component of Fe3O4@PDA@Ag@GO nanocomposites on SERS was explored, and it was found that Ag NPs are of great significance to enhance the Raman signal based on the electromagnetic enhancement mechanism; apart from enriching the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) through π–π interaction, GO also generates strong chemical enhancement to the Raman signal, and PDA can prevent Ag from shedding and agglomeration. The existence of Fe3O4 is favored for the fast separation of substrate from the solutions, which greatly simplifies the detection procedure and facilitates the cycle use of the substrate. The experimental procedure is simplified, and the substrate is reused easily. Three kinds of PAHs (phenanthrene, pyrene and benzanthene) are employed as probe molecules to verify the performance of the composite SERS substrate. The results show that the limit of detection (LOD) of phenanthrene pyrene and benzanthene detected by Fe3O4@PDA@Ag@GO composite substrate are 10−8 g/L (5.6 × 10−11 mol/L), 10−7 g/L (4.9 × 10−10 mol/L) and 10−7 g/L (4.4 × 10−10 mol/L), respectively, which is much lower than that of ordinary Raman, and it is promising for its application in the enrichment detection of trace PAHs in the environment.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThrough a comparison of Leo Strauss's and Raymond Aron's interpretations of Thucydides's history, this paper sheds light on the relationship between political history and political philosophy. In continuing the dialogue between the two thinkers, I demonstrate that in spite of their opposed views on modern historical consciousness, they converge in a defense of the object and method of classical political history. However, there is a deeper disagreement regarding the relationship between philosophy and politics. While Strauss makes the case for the compatibility of classical political history and classical political philosophy on the grounds that Thucydides is a “philosophic historian,” Aron argues that it is precisely because Thucydides is not a philosopher that he succeeds in understanding an essential feature of political things, namely, contingency in history.

Abstract (sommario):
The Church of Pentecost (CoP) has been identified as the fastest growing Christian denomination and the largest Protestant church in Ghana since 1989.1 Even though the CoP is grouped among the Classical Pentecostal Churches in Ghana, together with the Assemblies of God (AG), Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) and the Apostolic Church (AC), some scholars tend to describe it as an indigenous Ghanaian Pentecostal church for various reasons.2 For example, Asamoah-Gyadu indicates that - although it identifies with the classical Pentecostal tradition, the CoP has acquired a unique indigenous character, marking it out as different in outlook from, say, the Assemblies of God, whose American imprint after sixty years of existence in Ghana is still quite obvious.3 To some extent, some of the leaders of the CoP also seem to have similar view that the CoP is an indigenous Ghanaian church. Writing the introduction to the ‘History of The Church of Pentecost Volume 1’, Apostle D K Anan, the then chairman of the History Committee, points out that ‘The Church of Pentecost, from its inception, has been an indigenous, a do-it-yourself Church.’4 This assumption agrees with the claims of Rev. James McKeown, the first superintendent and chairman of the CoP that he wanted to plant ‘local species’ in African soil, since he believed that a British oak is more likely to struggle in Ghana.

Abstract To increase understanding of Pneumocystis carinii and its interaction with its hosts, Ag specific for rodent and human P. carinii were identified by the immunoblot method after PAGE of P. carinii organism extracts. The m.w. of the major Ag of rat P. carinii were 45,000, 110,000, and a broad band of 49,000 to 64,000, and of human P. carinii were 22,000, 24,000, and a broad band of 35,000 to 45,000 daltons. Human and rat pneumocystis were not antigenically identical. Specific antibodies against rat P. carinii Ag were found in 18 of 79 rats by the immunoblot method. Specific antibodies against human P. carinii Ag were found in 32 of 33 adult human sera, but in only 1 of 8 sera from infants and children. Specific antibodies were found in sera of 13 of the 14 adults with no history of P. carinii pneumonia, and all 19 patients with recently diagnosed P. carinii pneumonia, including 9 patients with P. carinii pneumonia associated with AIDS. The results of this study support previous suggestions that a large proportion of adults have been exposed to P. carinii and provide a basis for the further investigations of host-P. carinii interactions.

Abstract (sommario):
This research aims to investigate the inheritance status of interfaith marriages in Indonesia's multicultural basis according to classical and contemporary jurisprudence. The method used is library research with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The results of the research are that multicultural-based fiqh can be understood through the reinterpretation of religious texts using the maqashid sharia approach. Interfaith marriage as one of the effects of social interaction in a multicultural country still leads to a taboo understanding that interreligious marriage in Indonesia is not allowed, as classical and contemporary jurist opinion generally forbids it. Questioning the status of inheritance in interfaith marriages, the scholars of the four schools of thought, Ali as-Shabuni, Sayyid Sabiq, Muhammad as-Syaukani, and Mustafa as-Salabi agreed that their inheritance rights were hindered, while according to the Imami school of thought, Ibn Taimiyah and Ibn Qayyim al-Jauzi and Yusuf Al- Qardhawi was not deterred by the pretext of helping each other. In Indonesia, the inheritance rights of interfaith marriages are discussed in the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) No. 368K/AG/1995 and the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia Number 51K/AG/1999 which shows that in terms of not obtaining inheritance rights, they will receive a "wasiat wajibah".

Abstract (sommario):
This work proposes a simple method to obtain nanostructured hydrogels with improved mechanical characteristics and relevant antibacterial behavior for applications in articular cartilage regeneration and repair. Low amounts of silver-decorated carbon-nanotubes (Ag@CNTs) were used as reinforcing agents of the semi-interpenetrating polymer network, consisting of linear polyacrylamide (PAAm) embedded in a PAAm-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA) hydrogel. The rational design of the materials considered a specific purpose for each employed species: (1) the classical PAAm-MBA network provides the backbone of the materials; (2) the linear PAAm (i) aids the dispersion of the nanospecies, ensuring the systems’ homogeneity and (ii) enhances the mechanical properties of the materials with regard to resilience at repeated compressions and ultimate compression stress, as shown by the specific mechanical tests; and (3) the Ag@CNTs (i) reinforce the materials, making them more robust, and (ii) imprint antimicrobial characteristics on the obtained scaffolds. The tests also showed that the obtained materials are stable, exhibiting little degradation after 4 weeks of incubation in phosphate-buffered saline. Furthermore, as revealed by micro-computed tomography, the morphometric features of the scaffolds are adequate for applications in the field of articular tissue regeneration and repair.

Abstract (sommario):
BackgroundAmyloidosis is characterized by accumulation of insoluble fibrils composed of different monomers in extracellular spaces of different organs, and demonstration of deposits by non-invasive methods is important especially for organs difficult to sample. Transient elastography (Fibroscan) is a diagnostic method of measuring liver stiffness (LS) being used in chronic liver diseases.ObjectivesWe herein aimed to search potential of fibroscan detecting kidney stiffness (KS) associated with amyloid deposition in patients with AA who received kidney transplants.MethodsRenal transplant recipients (RTR) because of AA amyloidosis-related kidney failure (amyloidosis group; AG) and RTR due to other underlying diseases (control group; CG) enrolled into this study. KS and LS were measured by the same physician blinded to diagnosis. The stiffness results were expressed in kilopascals (kPa). Local ethics committee approval and patient consents were obtained.ResultsNineteen AG and 16 CG patients included into the study. Patient age (p=0.4), gender (p=1), body mass index (BMI) (p=0.4), donor type (p=0.2), donor age (p=0.3), frequency of rejection history (p=0.4) and graft loss (p=0.2) did not show significant difference between two groups. Frequency of diabetes mellitus (DM) (p=0.01), median creatinine (p=0.015) and proteinuria (p<0.001) were higher in AG group than CG. Although median KS was higher in CG group (19.8 [IQR:34] vs 15.8 [IQR:16]), the difference was not significant (p=0.5). Baseline clinical and laboratory features were similar in AG patients with recurrent-amyloidosis (n=6) and non-recurrent AG patients (n=13). Median KS score was higher in recurrent compared to non-recurrent AG patients (p< 0.001). However median LS did not differ between two groups (p=0.4). In multivariate analysis only KS was associated with renal recurrence of AA (p=0.031; OR=1.18, 95% CI 1.015-1.362). In ROC analysis, a cut-off value of 24.55 kPa provided 83.3% sensitivity and 92.3% specificity (LR=10.8, AUC=0.936, p=0.003). Median KS was higher in patients with a history of rejection both among the patients with AG and CG, but the difference was not significant. Additionally, LS scores were similar between two groups. In FMF-associated AA, median KS was higher in patients with one MEFV variant compared to those with two variants and tended to be higher in other MEFV variants compared to M694V homozygotes (p=0.027 and p=0.08, respectively). There was no correlation between the patient age, disease duration, duration of renal transplantation, donor age, BMI, LS, creatinine, CRP, proteinuria, and KS both in patients with AG and CG.Table 1.Comparison of clinical and laboratory features between patients had amyloidosis recurrence and notVariablesTotalRecurrence -Recurrence +p valueAge (years)*48 (22)47 (17)50 (27)1Gender, maleƗ13 (68.4)9 (69.2)4 (66.7)1Duration of amyloidosis (months)*206 (89)220 (99)163 (203)0.08Diagnosis age of amyloidosis (years)*28 (17)27.5 (17)28 (20)1Duration of renal transplantation (months)*145 (137)144 (110)123 (50)0.7Kidney stiffness (kPa)*15.8 (15.8)10.9 (7.7)29.3 (18.9)<0.001Liver stiffness (kPa)*5.45 (2.8)5.4 (2.7)5.9 (8.9)0.4RejectionƗ(n, %)3 (15.8)2 (15.4)1 (16.7)1Creatinine (mg/dL)*1.4 (0.6)1.4 (0.7)1.7 (0.5)0.24CRP (mg/L)*2.7 (4.4)1.3 (4.1)3.5 (13.9)0.3ProteinuriaƗ3 (15.8)1 (7.7)2 (33.3)0.2Proteinuria (g/day)*0.4 (1.2)0.4*median; IQR Ɨ n, %ConclusionMedian KS scores were similar between AG and CG groups; however it was higher in AG patients with recurrent kidney amyloidosis than those without recurrent disease, which may support using the fibroscan method as a useful screening method for establishing AA recurrence. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Method 519.7, Annex D of MIL-STD-810G, Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests, Change Notice 1 (MIL-STD-810G/CN1) outlines a prediction methodology for establishing a sine-on-random (SoR) structured spectrum that is intended to be representative of gunfire for use in cases in which there is an absence of field data. From that spectrum, the ramp modulated pulse (RMP) technique is proposed as a methodology to synthesize a time history with temporal characteristics that more realistically represent the temporal characteristics of gunfire than that of a SoR time history synthesized via classical SoR generation techniques. This paper provides an alternate technique to the RMP methodology presented in Method 519. The alternate technique is based on normalized exponentially weighted (NEW) time history generated via classical time domain techniques for a SoR vibration test. An outline of the NEW technique and an associated example are provided.

Abstract (sommario):
Primary spontaneous pneumothorax has a complex morphopathological substrate, in which active smoking plays an essential etiopathogenic role. Inflammation of the distal airways, bronchial anomalies, perivascular eosinophilic infiltrate associated with hereditary factors and physiognomy (longilli patients) lead to obstruction of distal airwayswhich is the essential element in the emergence of emphysematous changes. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a technique used to identify cellular or tissue (antigens) constituents by Ag-Ac, the Ac link site being identified either by direct labeling of the antibody or by a secondary labeling method. IHC reactions are based on tissue-antibody antigen binding, the latter being evidenced by direct conjugation to tracer molecules (direct reaction) or by another chain of other labeled free antibody linkages. We can consider the immunohistochemical method as having a potential utility, especially in selected patients, where there are sufficient clinical and epidemiological reasons to suspect a pneumothorax-causing disease but where the classical investigations did not provide diagnostic performance.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper presents an original supraclassical nontrivial plausible entailment relation $\vapprox$ that employs Kolmogorov's probability theory. Its crucial feature is the primitiveness of a conditional probability, which one calculates with the help of the method of truth tables for classical propositional logic. I study the properties of the entailment relation in question. In particular, I show that while being supraclassical, i.e., all classical entailments and valid formulas are $\vapprox$-valid, but not vice versa, it is not trivial and enjoys the same form of inconsistency as classical entailment ⊧ does. I specify the place of the proposed probability entailment relation in certain classifications of nonclassical entailment relations. In particular, I use Douven's analysis of some probabilistic entailment relations that contains dozens of properties that are crucial for any probabilistic entailment relation, as well as Hlobil's choosing your nonmonotonic logic: shopper’s guide, due to the fact that $\vapprox$ is not monotonic, and Cobreros, Egré, Ripley, van Rooij's entailment relations for tolerant reasoning. At last, I perform a comparative analysis of classical, the proposed, and some other entailment relations closely related to the latter: those introduced by Bocharov, Markin, Voishvillo, Degtyarev, Ivlev, where the last two entailment relations are based on the so-called principle of reverse deduction, which is an intuitively acceptable way to connect classical and probabilistic entailment relations.

Abstract (sommario):
This article interrogates the historiography of the field of classical Judaism and suggests what a revisionist feminist historiography of this foundational period might look like. Feminist analysis of gender, class, and race in antiquity allows us to see how scholarly biases today reinscribe and even exceed ancient prejudices. Building on Blossom Stefaniw’s essay “Feminist Historiography and Uses of the Past” and deploying Saidiya Hartman’s method of critical fabulation to analyze synagogue inscriptions and rabbinic texts, this article offers counternarratives of Jewish daily life in the period of Late Antiquity. Through investigation of evidence for enslaved, manumitted, and fostered people in the households of the late antique Jewish patriarchs, this article emphasizes the contribution of ostensibly nonnormative Jews to late antique synagogues, rabbinic learning, and Jewish society in Late Antiquity. It argues that our imaginings of Jewish society and the Jewish household in premodernity must change to accommodate the evidence of these heretofore marginalized Jews and the challenges posed by their enslaved status and/or gendered identity. This restoration of excluded perspectives and traditions represents a more ethical historiographic practice, which produces more inclusive and accurate representations of the past, sets the stage for recognizing continuities through the medieval era, and, finally, enables a different present, one with subjects empowered to construct more ethical social norms within and outside the academy.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of classical drama education in literature education and to clarify the significance of U-hui as a subject of classical drama education. Methods To this end, the content related to theater history presented as educational content in the literature curriculum was examined diachronically. In addition, the educational content related to theater history covered in current literature textbooks was analyzed by dividing them into explanatory materials, work materials, and learning activities in the textbook history section. Based on the structure of the revised educational goal classification system, a method for generating knowledge according to the development of the learner's cognitive process was presented. Results The influence of the syllabus and the period of the 4th curriculum on classical theater education leads to fixed knowledge, and in textbooks, academic discourse on theater history in the past is reproduced or knowledge that has formed an issue is avoided. Accordingly, the content of education was organized around the theater and commoners in the late Joseon Dynasty. Conclusions In order to solve this problem, the current academic discourse related to Woohee should be included, and the cognitive process in which learners evaluate knowledge and create new knowledge should be used as an educational method. Taking U-hui as a subject of classical drama education enables a change from the educational content centered on the common people in the late Joseon Dynasty to encompassing various eras and enjoyment classes. In addition, the change in teaching and learning methods that utilize research historical issues has significance in helping learners maintain an open attitude toward knowledge of the history of literature.

Abstract (sommario):
We study the exact and approximate solutions of a delay differential equation with various types of nonlocal history conditions. We establish the existence and uniqueness of mild, strong, and classical solutions for a class of such problems using the method of semidiscretization in time. We also establish a result concerning the global existence of solutions. Finally, we consider some examples and discuss their exact and approximate solutions.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This paper aims to fabricate nickel-aluminum (Ni-Al)-based self-lubricating composite coating on aluminum (Al) alloy by mechanical milling (MM). Design/methodology/approach A new carrier transport (CT) way was designed to solve the slippage fracture of the coating due to silver (Ag) accumulation (Ag powders were cold welded with nickel [Ni] powders by MM in advance to avoid accumulation, then Al powder and samples were added to fabricate the coating). Findings Microstructure analysis reveals that the solid lubricant Ag exists as particles in the composite coating via CT technique, which is different from the typical morphology (strip-type) of Ag tailored by normal methods. The unique granular form of Ag can effectively avoid the gliding fracture of the coating, thus forming an efficacious lubrication film on the worn surface, which is responsible for the excellent tribological properties of the coating. Practical implications Most of the papers reported that coatings synthesized by MM mainly concentrated on hard coatings, but the fabrication of self-lubricating coatings have not yet reported. Originality/value The uniform dispersion of solid lubricant Ag can effectively solves a fatal problem that the fracture failure of coating triggered by the Ag accumulation. This experiment provides a novel method for preparation of self-lubricating coating by MM. Abstract (sommario):
Media has been pivotal in preservation of art for ages. The traditions and cultures have been travelling across generations via media through centuries. And as the media experienced technological advancement, it became more potent and started playing even more crucial role. The ability of the media contents to reach to masses and the preservation of the content has allowed preservation and subsequent promotion of various art forms. This paper concerns with the Indian classical music and the role media played in promoting it. Cinema has been the prime carrier of the art form but other mediums too have played a significant role. The related literature suggests the same and provides evidence for the same. The literature however mostly relates to art in general with very little reference to Indian Classical Music. The objective of this paper is to study the perceived role of media in promoting Indian Classical Music. The study was conducted using survey method on 246 (N) respondents. The data was analysed using statistical analysis including ANOVA and T-Test to find the difference in opinions of the respondents categorised on various basis. The findings suggest that people strongly believe that media has been instrumental in promoting Indian Classical Music. The feeling however is not the same for all mediums but for some mediums like Radio and Cinema. People also believe that reality shows have brought Indian classical music to the fore though it still has not translated into the creation of greater opportunities leading to more financial freedom amongst the classical musicians.

Abstract (sommario):
The classical regression systems modeling methods only consider the single scene, which has the weakness: partial information missing may weaken the generalization abilities of the regression systems constructed based on this dataset. A regression system with the Knowledge transfer learning abilities, i.e. Knowledge Based ε-Support Vector Regression (KB-ε-SVR for brevity) is proposed based on ε-support vector regression. KB-ε-SVR can use the current data information sufficiently, and learn from the existing useful historical knowledge effectively, so that remedy the information lack in the current scene. Reinforced current model is obtained through control the similarity between current model and history model in the object function and current model can benefit from history scene when information is missing or insufficient. Experiments show that KB-ε-SVR has the better performance and adaptability than the traditional ε-support vector regression methods in scenarios with insufficient data.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract A new method for the highly active palladium catalyst synthesis on the surface of a Pd-23%Ag film has been developed to increase the material activity with respect to reactions involving hydrogen. Comparison of the electrochemical experiments data of classical palladium black and a new developed nanocatalyst demonstrated a significant increase in catalytic activity in the methanol oxidation reaction (up to 17.09 μA cm−2) for electrodes modified with the latter catalyst. The reason for that is an increase in the number of localized potentially more active surface regions due to the creation of a larger number of active sites in comparison with spherical particles. Estimation of resistance to CO poisoning showed high efficiency of nanocatalysts. Chronoamperometric experiment established the long-term stability and activity of the developed catalyst and confirmed the possibility of its practical use.

Abstract (sommario):
The wave passage effect is a measure of the wave passage delay due to the apparent velocity of waves, which is one of spatially varying properties of multivariate random processes. The phase of coherence function reflects the wave passage effect of wind fields. In the wind field, simulation by the spectral representation method, the classical phase formula, is not rigorous. This may affect the accuracy of simulation results and even cause incorrect simulations. In this study, the influences of the phase on stationary and nonstationary wind field simulations are researched and discussed in detail. Two schemes containing the classical phase formula and the separated phase scheme are compared in four types of wind field simulation. The qualitative analysis based on theoretical correlation function formula is first made to study the influence of the phase. Then, four numerical examples are utilized to quantitatively study the magnitude of the influence on the sample time history and correlation function of the simulated wind field. Results show that the classical phase formula will result in considerable simulation error for all four types of wind fields because it cannot completely represent the phase angle of a complex number.

Abstract (sommario):
In musicology, there has been a long debate about a meaningful partitioning and description of music history regarding composition styles. Particularly, concepts of historical periods have been criticized since they cannot account for the continuous and interwoven evolution of style. To systematically study this evolution, large corpora are necessary suggesting the use of computational strategies. This article presents such strategies and experiments relying on a dataset of 2000 audio recordings, which cover more than 300 years of music history. From the recordings, we extract different tonal features. We propose a method to visualize these features over the course of history using evolution curves. With the curves, we re-trace hypotheses concerning the evolution of chord transitions, intervals, and tonal complexity. Furthermore, we perform unsupervised clustering of recordings across composition years, individual pieces, and composers. In these studies, we found independent evidence of historical periods that broadly agrees with traditional views as well as recent data-driven experiments. This shows that computational experiments can provide novel insights into the evolution of styles.
