Abstract (sommario):

Son yıllarda ahşap ve çapraz lamine ahşap malzemeye ilgi giderek artmaya başlamıştır. Çapraz lamine ahşap birçok ülkede ahşap yapıların inşasında fazlaca kullanılmaktadır. Bu malzeme çok katlı binaların inşasında da kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Çok katlı binaların inşasında kullanılan yapısal ahşap malzemelerin mekanik performansının yüksek olması gerekir. Ancak ahşap malzeme rutubet aldığı zaman mekanik performansı değişen bir malzemedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, karaçam kerestesinden üretilen çapraz lamine ahşap malzemenin, seçilmiş mekanik özellikleri üzerine rutubetin etkisini belirlemektir. Bu amaç için, 3 tabakalı çapraz lamine ahşap poliüretan tutkalı kullanılarak üretilmiştir. Üretilen yapı malzemesi hem hava kurusu hem de yaş halde mekanik testlere tabi tutulmuştur. Çapraz lamine ahşap malzemenin 3 nokta eğilme direnci, elastisite modülü, eğilmede deformasyon miktarı, yapışma direnci, çivi tutma direnci tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilere göre; hava kurusu haldeki test örneklerinin eğilme direnci, elastisite modülü, çivi tutma direnci ve makaslama direnci yaş haldeki test örneklerinden sırasıyla %127, %118, %35 ve%87 daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yaş haldeki test örneklerinin eğilmede deformasyon miktarının kuru haldeki test örneklerine göre %52 daha fazla olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Vorspann In den 1950er und 1960er Jahren überschwemmte eine Fülle von zeitgeschichtlichen Memoiren, Editionen und Dokumentationen zum NS-Regime beziehungsweise zum Zweiten Weltkrieg den Markt. Wie zuletzt Magnus Brechtken für den Fall Albert Speer zeigte, (ent-)standen einiger dieser Werke unter dem geschichtspolitischen Einfluss der ehemaligen Akteure und dienten einer weit verbreiteten Exkulpationsmentalität. Im Lichte dieser aktuellen Forschungsthemen untersucht Paul Fröhlich die Publikationsgeschichte des Kriegstagebuchs von Franz Halder, Chef des Generalstabs des Heeres zwischen 1938 und 1942. Er zeigt den außerordentlichen Einfluss Halders und dessen Entlastungsnarrative auf die Praxis der zeitgeschichtlichen Forschung seit dem Ende der 1940er Jahre und stellt die Frage nach der Akteursnähe der damaligen Historiker.

“Vurgun” olarak da bilinen “Dekompresyon Hastalığı”, basınç altında kan ve dokularda çözünen inert gazın (Nitrojen, Helyum gibi) oluşturduğu kabarcıkların yol açtığı bir durum olup, genellikle dalgıçlarda görülmektedir. Azalan basıncın etkisiyle kanda çözünmüş halde bulunan bu inert gazlar, çözünmüş halden serbestleşerek damar ve dokular içerisinde dokunun beslenmesini engelleyen kabarcıklar oluşturmaktadır. Bu durum tamamen herhangi bir belirti vermeyebileceği gibi, basit bir yorgunluk ve dispneden, parapleji ve hatta ölüme kadar varan geniş bir yelpazede patolojilere de sebep olabilmektedir. Adli Tıp polikliniğine adli rapor istemi ile başvuran, alınan öyküye göre denizde 27 metre derinlikten hızlıca su yüzeyine yükselme sonucu “Dekompresyon Hastalığı” gelişen 41 yaşında erkek olgu, adli tıp pratiğinde nadir görülen bir olgu olması ve bu tür olgulardaki adli tıbbi yaklaşıma dikkat çekilmesi amacıyla sunulmuştur.

Abstract (sommario):

This paper focuses on sentences like Nixon is guilty, if Haldeman is guilty too, first discussed by Soames (1982) and Karttunen and Peters (1979), which raise three problems. First, they are felicitous and do not appear to have presuppositions. However all major theories of presuppositions predict that they should presuppose what the antecedent presupposes (e.g., the sentence above should presuppose that Nixon is guilty). Second, there is a contrast between these sentences and the corresponding sentence-initial conditionals like if Haldeman is guilty too, Nixon is guilty. Finally, a way to solve the problem would be to locally accommodate the presupposition in the antecedent. However, this wrongly predicts tautological truth-conditions. In the case above, the predicted meaning could be paraphrased as “Nixon is guilty, if both Haldeman and Nixon are guilty.” As a solution to these three problems, I propose that the presupposition is nonetheless locally accommodated in the antecedent and furthermore that the sentence is also interpreted exhaustively, which gives rise to a non-presuppositional and non-tautological meaning analogous to Nixon is guilty, only if both Haldeman and Nixon are guilty. Furthermore, I argue that the degraded status of the sentence-initial case is an independent fact rooted in the topic-focus structure of sentence-final conditionals. Finally, the present proposal can also be extended to treat related non-presuppositional cases like I will go, if we go together.

This experiment, conducted at the OECD Halden Reactor Project, Halden, Norway in the spring 1991, aimed to assess the effect on nuclear power plant operators diagnostic behaviour when using a rule based diagnostic expert system. The rule based expert system used in the experiment is called DISKET (Diagnosis System Using Knowledge Engineering Technique) and was originally developed by the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI). The experiment was performed in the Halden man-machine laboratory using a full scope pressurized water reactor simulator. Operator performance in terms of quality of diagnosis is improved by the use of DISKET. The use of the DISKET system also influences operators problem solving behaviour. The main difference between the two experimental conditions can be characterised as while the DISKET users during the diagnosis process are following a strategy which is direct and narrowed, the non-DISKET users are using a much broader and less focused search when trying to diagnose a disturbance.

Abstract (sommario):

When historians proffer historical truths they “must not merely tell truths,” they must “demonstrate their truthfulness as well,” observes Hackett Fisher. As against this standard, Frederick Vaughan's intellectual biography of Richard Burdon Haldane does not fare so well. Vaughan argues that Viscount Haldane’s jurisprudential tilt, which favoured the provinces in Canadian federalism cases before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, was rooted in Haldane’s philosophizing about Hegel. He does so, however, without much reference to the political and legal currents within which Haldane thought, wrote, and thrived. More remarkably, Vaughan does not derive from his reading of Haldane and Hegel any clear preference for the local over the national. We are left to look elsewhere for an explanation for Haldane’s favouring of the provincial side in division-of-powers cases. Vaughan additionally speculates about why Haldane’s predecessor Lord Watson took a similar judicial path, yet offers only tired and unconvincing rationales. Vaughan, lastly, rips Haldane out of historical context for the purpose of condemning contemporary Supreme Court of Canada decision making under the Charter. Under the guise of purposive interpretation, Vaughan claims that the justices are guilty of constitutionalizing a “historical relativism” that Vaughan wrongly alleges Hegel to have propounded. While passing judgment on the book’s merits, the purpose of this review essay is to evaluate the book by situating it in the historiographic record, a record that Vaughan ignores at his peril.

We review the basic properties of the Haldane phase in spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains, including its persistence in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) geometries. Using large-scale numerical simulations, we map out the phase diagram for a realistic model applicable to experimental Haldane compounds. We also investigate the effect of different chain coupling geometries and confirm a general mean-field universality of the critical coupling times the coordination number of the lattice. Inspired by recent developments in the characterization of symmetry protected topological (SPT) states, of which the Haldane phase of the spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain is a preeminent example, we provide direct evidence that the Q1D Haldane phase is indeed a nontrivial SPT state.

A three-dimensional mixed-spin antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model is introduced to describe the interesting property of the coexistence of Haldane gap and antiferromagnetic long-range order in compound Pr 2 BaNiO 5. Within the Schwinger-boson mean-field theory, we investigate the temperature dependences of the Haldane gap and ordered parameters both below and above the Néel temperatures, and establish a theoretical explanation for the increase of the Haldane gap below the Néel temperature. Our results are in good agreement with neutron scattering experiments.

The OECD Halden Reactor Project is a joint undertaking of national nuclear organisations from 20 countries, who together sponsor a research programme under the auspices of the OECD - Nuclear Energy Agency. One of the Projects important research areas addresses human factors in control room design and operation. The simulator-based Halden Man-Machine Laboratory (HAMMLAB) has, since its establishment in 1983, been the main facility for conducting research in this area. It's objective is to provide knowledge for improving today's control rooms, through the introduction and evaluation of computer-based solutions for effective and safe control of the plant, across all process conditions. The laboratory facility will be introduced and the recent major upgrades, involving moving from one nuclear simulator to three full-scale simulators, plus an oil production platform simulator described. The aim of the human factors research programme itself is to provide knowledge about the capabilities and limitations of the human operators within a control room environment. Understanding the impact of new technology on operating personnel is crucial in decision-making concerning safety and efficiency for nuclear power plants. The Halden Project's new three year research programme in this area includes many aspects of human performance. The main elements of this programme will be briefly described in order to provide an overview of the breadth of the research topics currently of interest to the Projects 100 participating nuclear organisations.

Abstract (sommario):

The study on substrate inhibition kinetics in Anammox-UASB reactor was carried out treating low C/N wastewater. Haldane model was researched through non-linear fitting to represent the inhibition caused by nitrite. The results showed that Haldane model was suitable for fitting dynamics model. In Haldane model, rmax was 1.15 kg/( m3•d), KS=9.31 mg/L, KIH=476 mg/L. On condition that the concentration of nitrite was 66.57 mg/L, substrate conversion rate reached the highest value which was 0.90 kg/(m3•d) actually. And it was 78.1% of the highest value in theory.

RÉSUMÉVerena Haldemann n'a pas compris que le sujet de l'article se restreignait aux modèles du vieillissement. Les rapports entre âge et institutions sociales ne sont mentionnés qu'en relation avec les processus du vieillissement; ces rapports ont été développés dans d'autres travaux. Les modèles du vieillissement sont classés selon les tensions théoriques entre les perspectives sociologiques interprétatives et normatives et entre les travaux d'analyse micro et macro pour comparer leur sortie de ces tensions. Ces modèles appartiennent tous à la perspective du parcours de vie parce qu'elle est très abstraite; ce qui en fait la force et la faiblesse.

Abstract (sommario):

One-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnets can be described by the O (3) nonlinear σ-model (NLσM). We give a review on zero temperature and finite temperature Haldane gaps obtained from this model. Based on the coupled-chain theory, we derive the finite temperature Haldane gap for triangular antiferromagnet RbNiCl 3. The Néel temperature is obtained as 11 K. In order to treat the anisotropy in crystal Ni ( C 2 H 8 N 2)2 NO 2( ClO 4), we relax the constraint of the NLσM and compute the finite temperature Haldane gap using a Ginzburg–Landau mean field approach. The comparison with the experimental data is discussed.

The Christiansen-Douglas-Haldane effect, in short the Haldane effect, describes the dependence of the CO2 binding of blood on the degree of oxygenation of haemoglobin. Under the physiological conditions of an ‘open’ system between blood and alveoli the partial pressure of arterial C02 (PaCO2), must be less than that of mixed venous blood (P[Formula: see text]CO2). During the unphysiological conditions of a ‘closed’ system, e.g. hyperoxic apnoea, i.e. continuous oxygen uptake without CO2 delivery by the lungs, the Paco2 will not only approximate the P[Formula: see text]CO2 but will even exceed it. Without the Haldane effect, rapid adjustment of Paco2 to P[Formula: see text]CO2 would be expected during apnoea due to the lack of CO2 excretion. If however, as undertaken in this study, ongoing oxygenation (high alveolar Po2 (PACO2) with concomitant lack of C02 delivery (apnoea, i. e. the C02 concentration remains constant) lead to a continuing sufficient oxygenation of blood during its passage through the lung capillaries, then this leads to a rightwards shift of the CO2 binding curve — the Haldane effect. The resulting increase in Pco2 as shown here actually leads to an arterial-mixed venous CO2 partial pressure difference (a[Formula: see text]DPco2) of 2.8±1.8 mmHg. The results described substantiate for the first time the existence of the Haldane effect under clinical conditions.

Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) called his philosophy the ‘philosophy of organism.’ How come this mathematical physicist became a proponent of organicism instead of mechanicism? The main reason is that, early on, Whitehead clearly saw that with the advent of Maxwell’s theory of electric and magnetic fields, Einstein’s theories of relativity, and Bohr’s theory of the atom, even physics was no longer the mechanical discipline most philosophers held it for. But there was more. Whitehead knew many biologists of the first generation of organicists, and he was influenced by their organicist view. In this context, some Whitehead scholars have already pointed at physiologist of respiration John Scott Haldane (1860-1936) as a possible organicist influence on Whitehead, without however exploring this influence in depth. The aim of this paper is to remedy this shortcoming. It explores both the direct and the indirect influence of John Scott Haldane on Whitehead. The indirect influence involves a dear friend of Whitehead – John Scott’s brother, Richard Burdon Haldane (1856-1928). Hence the title of this paper: ‘The organicism of Whitehead and the Haldane brothers.’

This article provides an initial report on oral histories being collected from three surviving Branch Davidians: Bonnie Haldeman, the mother of David Koresh, Clive Doyle, and Sheila Martin. Their accounts are being made into autobiographies. Interviews with a fourth survivor, Catherine Matteson, are being prepared for deposit in an archive and inform the material gathered from Bonnie Haldeman, Clive Doyle, and Sheila Martin. Oral histories provided by these survivors humanize the Branch Davidians, who were dehumanized and erased in 1993 by the application of the pejorative ‘cult’ stereotype by the media and American law enforcement agents. These Branch Davidian accounts provide alternate narratives of what happened in 1993 at Mount Carmel Center outside Waco, Texas, to those provided by American federal agents, and flesh out the human dimensions of the community and the tragedy. Branch Davidians are differentiated from many other people primarily by their strong commitment to doing God's will as they understand it from the Bible. Otherwise they are ordinary, intelligent people with the same emotions, loves, and foibles as others.

In this study, batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the degradation of 4-CP using acclimated sludge. The Monod and Haldane models were employed to fit the specific growth rate with various initial 4-CP concentrations of 67–412 mg/L in the batch experiments. Haldane kinetics showed a better fit to experimental results than Monod kinetics. The kinetic parameters were obtained from a comparison of Monod and Haldane kinetics with batch experimental data. The values of μm and KS were found to be 0.691 d−1 and 5.62 mg/L, respectively, for Monod kinetics. In contrast, the values of μm, KS, and KI were 1.30 d−1, 8.38 mg/L, and 279.4 mg/L, respectively, for Haldane kinetics. The kinetic parameters in Haldane kinetics were used as input parameters for the kinetic model system of the packed bed reactor (PBR). The continuous flow PBR was conducted to validate the kinetic model system. The model-simulated results agreed well with experimental data in the PBR performance operation. At the steady-state stage, the removal efficiency of 4-CP was 70.8–96.1%, while the hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 2.5 to 12.4 h. The corresponding removal of 4-CP was assessed to be 94.6 and 96.1% when the inlet 4-CP loading rate was increased from 0.11 to 0.51 kg/m3-d. The approaches of kinetic models and experiments presented in this study can be applied to design a PBR for 4-CP treatment in wastewater from the effluents of various industries.
