Abstract: The objective of this work was to study through in the electromyography the upper and lower umbilical rectus abdominis and the anterior and posterior parts of the external oblique muscles of children 8 to 10 years old. The children studied practice artistic and rhythmical gymnastic sports at the training and learning levei and the study was made during abdominal exercise in the dorsal decubitus position on the ground and on a board. The children were divided into 2 groups: Group I - ten already trained children; Group II ¿ nineteen learners. The participants in Group I practiced an average of 5 times a week and those in Group II practiced 2 times a week. The exercises analyzed were: on the ground - lifting the legs 30 cm, 20 cm and 10 cm high with the knees flexed 90 degrees; flexing the trunk while maintaining the legs elevated and the knees flexed; flexing the trunk with homo and heterolateral rotation of the trunk while maintaining the legs elevated and the knees flexed; on the board -flexing the trunk with the knees flexed 90 degrees on top of the board inclined 30 cm, 20 cm and 10 cm; flexing the trunk with rotation of the trunk homo and heterolateral with the knees flexed on the board inclined 30 cm, 20 cm and 10cm. The results showed that the superior umbilical part of the rectus abdominal muscle presented more intense action potential than the inferior-umbilical part; the more intense action potential occurred at the flexing of the trunk and at the flexing of the trunk with homo and heterolateral rotation. The anterior part of the external oblique muscle presented more intense action potential intense than the posterior part; the more intense action potential occurred at the flexing of the trunk and at the flexing of the trunk with heterolateral rotation. In both of the muscles the more intense action potential occurred between 45 and 60 degrees of flexing the trunk; the children in Group I presented more intense action potential than those in Group II; the exercise of lifting the flexed legs did not prove efficient for strengthening the analyzed abdominal muscle structure

Effects of New Style Gymnastics With Different Frequencies on Bone Strength and Health- related Physical Fitness of Children Abstract The purposes of the study were to investigate the effect of bone strength and physical fitness on elementary school high-grade students after 18 weeks of the new style gymnastics training (NSGT) with two different frequencies. Seventy-eight six-grade students of Ho-mei elementary school, Chang-hua, Taiwan were volunteers as subjects and they were divided into group A (EG-A), B (EG-B), and the group C (CG). The EG-A had two days of 15 min NSGT per week; The EG-B had four days of 15 min NSGT per week; and CG had no training for 18 weeks. All of the subjects had to go through the testing events before, mid, and after the training. The test events included assessed radius and tibia bone strength (Sunlight Omnisense® 7000P) and health-related physical fitness test, including the BMI, sit and reach, standing jump, 1-min sit-up and 800m run. Two-way ANOVA mixed design was used to analyze the data. The alpha level was set at .05. The findings are as follows: 1. EG-B’s girl had improved tibia bone strength but EG-B had not changes indicating 4 days of 15 min NSGT per week for girls was better than 2 days of 15 min NSGT per week on bone strength. 2. EG-B’s boy had improved cardiovascular endurance but EG-B had not indicating 4 days of 15 min NSGT per week for boys was better than 2 days of 15 min NSGT per week on 800m run. 3. No difference was found on BMI, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility with two different frequencies of NSGT of elementary school high-grade students. Four days, 15 min, and 18 weeks of NSGT for six-grade students improved tibia bone strength for girls and better of cardiovascular endurance for boys, but it was not difference on the other health-related physical fitness such as BMI, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. Therefore, in order to improve and promote kids health-related fitness, it needs high intensity and frequencies of NSGT Key words: elementary students, bone strength, physical fitness, Gymnastics

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the New Style Gymnastics training program (NSGTP) on body composition (BC), health-related physical fitness (HPF), and blood lipids (BL) among obese elementary school children of 4th and 5th grades. The subjects were 40 male/female obese children, who were chosen by Weight-for-length index (WLI), divided into an experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG). The subjects participated twelve-week NSGTP, 50 minutes one time and five times a week. The exercise intensity was between 65-75﹪HRmax. The BC measurement, HPF examination, and blood sampling were made before and after training. Then, all collected data, within the twelve-week NSGPT, were analyzed by dependent sample t-test, to see the BC, HPF, and BLs differences between the EG and the CG after training; and, the independent sample t-test was applied to see the BC, HPF, and BLs differences between the EG and the CG before and after training. Theαlevel was set at .05. Following is our finding: 1.After the twelve-week NSGPT, weight, WLI, and Waist to hip ratio all significantly decreased (p<.05.). 2.Obese school children’s low back flexibility, the low body power, the muscular endurance, and the cardiovascular fitness all significantly improved (p<.05.). 3.All BL elements reached the significant difference (p<.05,) except low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Remarkable improvement in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol for obese school children were found. Conclusion: The NSGTP as the main exercise prescription improves the body composition, health related physical fitness and blood lipids of obese school children. And NSGPT in all schools and related agencies is strongly recommended. Keyword: The New Style Gymnastics, body composition, blood lipids, health-related physical fitness
