Abstract (sommario):
Since Bloch (1981) last wrote about the group psychotherapies for this journal, there have been significant developments in practice and in the available literature. There is now a wider range of introductory texts, and a few works have extended the theory of group dynamics and the therapeutic action of groups. There is evidence of a growing awareness of the applications of group psychotherapy in the treatment of a range of patients.

Abstract (sommario):
Prior research in individual therapy has provided evidence that therapists are poor predictors of client outcome without the aid of objective measures and often misjudge clients' perceptions of the therapeutic relationship. The focus of the current research was to conduct a similar study in a group setting. Therapists from a university counseling center and a state psychiatric hospital were recruited to test their accuracy in predicting client outcome, quality of therapeutic relationship and their own use of empirically supported group interventions. Results indicated that therapists are poor predictors of all three, providing support for the implementation of measure-based feedback systems to inform therapists about key information that may affect the effectiveness of group psychotherapy.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Thesis (MSc (Clinical Psychology) ) -- University of Limpopo, 2012.
The Clinical Psychology training programme at the University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus) is contextualized within the theoretical paradigm of the General Systems Theory. The main focus during the first block of training is on equipping trainees with a person-centered stance and the necessary skills that go with it such as empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence and also to develop a frame of reference in the trainees which is suitable to form a basis as a therapist. Thus training within this context is experiential. The aim of this study was to explore the subjective emotional experiences of the Msc1-Clinical Psychology trainees at the University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus) during their first block of training. The research was conducted through qualitative interviews with the trainees shortly after being exposed to the first block of training. The sample size consisted of five trainees of the 2011 Masters in Clinical Psychology training programme at Medunsa Campus. Interviews were analysed in accordance with qualitative methodology through thematic analysis. Finally, an attempt was made to discuss and integrate the research findings into which the strengths and limitations of the study and future recommendations were made. Results from this study indicated that trainees during their first block of training experienced different challenges which are not only emotional but mental as well as academic in nature. Moreover, it became evident that trainees further experienced challenges in their social contexts such as families and relationships outside the training context.

Farley, Patrick N. "Current Practices in General Hospital Group Psychotherapy". Diss., Virginia Tech, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/30406.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this survey study was to evaluate the current practice of inpatient group therapy in general hospital psychiatric units in a southeastern state and to determine whether there was a need for a more systematic method of designing, implementing, and evaluating general hospital group therapy. A second major purpose was to test a model to determine if it could be used to evaluate current practices of general hospital psychiatric group therapy on a more global basis. The history of group therapy and current nationwide statistical data relating to general hospital psychiatric units were summarized. A survey which addressed unit operations, unit staffing patterns, types of patients, and general practices regarding psychiatric unit group therapy was administered to 35 general hospital psychiatric unit administrators in a southeastern state. A standard interview protocol was developed and administered on-site to six group therapy practitioners. These interviews gathered information relative to specific unit group therapy practices, evaluated whether Group Pentagon components were utilized in group therapy practices, and identified factors influencing unit group therapy practice. An analysis of the available literature indicated there was little information relative to the practice of group therapy on general hospital psychiatric units. The literature analysis also revealed no consistent model or procedures for the design, implementation, and evaluation of group therapy in general hospital psychiatric units. The survey and interviews demonstrated that group therapy programs appeared fragmented, varied across units, and did not appear to be designed, implemented, or evaluated in a consistent manner. During the interviews, the practitioners described the lack of many of the conditions necessary for the provision of effective group therapy on their general hospital psychiatric units. The literature review analysis, survey, and interviews indicated the components of the Group Pentagon were not utilized in general hospital group therapy programs. The Group Pentagon provided a useful model for evaluating overall group therapy programs, as well as reviewing specific group therapy procedures. Finally, this research established a protocol for evaluating general hospital and potentially other group therapy practices.

Muehl, Karen. "Experiences of Post-Processing in Group Psychotherapy". VCU Scholars Compass, 2009. http://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/etd/1863.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This qualitative study utilized a phenomenological research approach (Moustakas, 1994) to examine the question How do group psychotherapy clients experience post-processing? The conceptual framework for the study was Yalom’s interpersonal process approach to group psychotherapy (Yalom & Leszcz, 2005). Participants were 12 university counseling center clients who were members of an interpersonal process-oriented psychotherapy group at a large urban university. Data collection consisted of in-depth interviews. Data analysis procedures followed recommendations by Smith and Osborn (2003) and Creswell (2007). In order to increase the trustworthiness and rigor of the study, the researcher engaged in reflexive journaling, member checking, and the use of two external auditors. Results of the study are presented as a description of how participants experienced post-processing, and are organized within two domains: (a) Experiences of post-processing; and (b) Contextual pieces. Within the first domain, eight categories emerged: (a) verbal report card; (b) silent observer phenomenon; (c) leader expertise; (d) emotional homework; (e) light bulb moments; (f) validation and reinforcement; (g) connections; and (h) final chapter experiences. Categories were made up of one or more related themes. Within the second domain were four related themes: (a) intensity or depth; (b) outside stressors; (c) group constellation; and (d) time in group. Quotes from participants are included to illustrate the findings. The role of the researcher as an instrument in the study is described. The results are discussed in relation to the theoretical framework of the study and the existing literature. Implications for research and practice of group psychotherapy are identified. Strengths and weaknesses of the study are included, as well as suggestion for future research.

Abstract (sommario):
Relevance. Currently in Russia, up to 40% of cases of restriction or deprivation of parental rights are associated with the factor of alcohol dependence. There are few programs that work with this group of parents. Often, the presence of alcohol dependence in a parent closes the door for the family to receive help and support. Since 2011, the Constanta Charitable Foundation has been operating in the Tver Region. For 11 years, assistance was provided to 3,560 families with 8,684 children. In 2018, the Constanta Charitable Foundation won a presidential grant for the implementation of the Child in the Family project. The goal of the project is to preserve the integrity of the family and prevent social orphanhood. To achieve this goal, social (food, clothing, essentials), psychological (individual and family psychotherapy) and medical care (psychiatric and drug treatment) were provided. In 2021, 107 families with problems with alcohol consumption were taken into the program, in which 215 children were brought up. After narcological diagnosis, program participants made free choice the option of alcohol addiction psychotherapy: complex (emotionally stressful therapy and short-term positive dynamic psychotherapy) or mono (emotionally stressful psychotherapy). Of the 48 people who underwent treatment for alcohol dependence, two groups were formed: Group 1 (n=17). Mean age 36.06±7.05 years. Short-term positive dynamic psychotherapy and emotional stress therapy. Group 2 (n=31). The average age is 36.60±7.50 years. Emotionally stress therapy. Methods. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, LHC conflict, Dembo-Rubinstein test. Results and conclusions. At the entrance to the program, Group 1 and Group 2 had similar scores on all scales. A significant difference at a significance level of p=0.049 according to the Mann-Whitney test was found only on the “We” scale (more in Group 1 than in Group 2), which describes the attitude towards the family. After psychotherapy, there were obtained differences on two scales “Tolerance” and “You”, in our opinion, are important in terms of predicting delayed treatment results. Tolerance is the ability to give in and give up your benefits for the sake of the results and desires of significant people. And the high result on the “You” scale, as mentioned above, is explained by co-dependent relationships. Thus, the decrease in indicators according to these scales in Group 1 indicates an increase in the independence of patients, as they become more inclined to achieve their own goals and make decisions that are not based on the desire to please a partner who has a destructive influence in the codependent system. If we say that it is in the structure of this psychotherapy that it is possible to give such results, then, first of all, it is necessary to note the ability of the “tool” (protocol of short-term positive dynamic psychotherapy) to transfer therapy from an individual form to the form of family psychotherapy. This option allows you to work out critical thinking by changing the perspective of analyzing the same events, eliminate affective reactions by working with feelings of guilt or shame, and also develop responsibility, allowing you to think about the desired future of the family.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper is an investigation into what and how the Gestalt psychotherapy approach has contributed to the leadership in the intervention perspectives. The paper looks into what kinds of leader interventions, according to the research, make a positive influence for the group and its members. There is a gap in the literature in regards to models that link different psychotherapeutic approaches and leader interventions. The findings of this paper present companies' leaders with a mixture and intervention through psychotherapeutic approach (Gestalt psychotherapy). This impact demonstrates how the stages of group development are crucial in making concentrated therapeutic use of the leader variables, therapeutic factors and in making decisions about appropriate interventions. According to the risks and cultural factors across companies, and in order to avoid them, the research conducted in this paper will contain qualitative information. Usually I went through the questions: Which defence mechanism is the best in the current situation? How to lead my team members? How to finish team tasks without feeling aggression for the deadline? What would be therapeutic for this specific individual at this moment?" and "what does the group-as-a-whole need?" To discover and synthesize relevant material, this paper employs a modified systematic literature review. The traditional systematic literature review AIDS in the clarification of two key points. To begin with, they help determine whether findings from several studies on a certain issue are consistent, reliable, and can be applied to larger applications. Second, they help to discover gaps in the research literature, which may then be used to guide the development of future studies and how to affect a leader in a certain organisation using different approaches.

The start of a special military operation in Ukraine on demilitarization and denazification led to a bright manifestation of a number of trends in a variety of areas of life. One of these trends was the culture of the abolition of Russianism in all its manifestations (cultural, scientific, historical, etc.), which shows the transformation of military doctrine and the formation of new theaters of war, among which the sphere of information and psychological confrontation is of particular importance. Back in 1960, E. E. Messner (1891-1974) predicted that in the 21st century the mental sphere would become the main theater of military operations. It is customary to distinguish between hard power and soft power. Hard power is associated with using the carrot and sticks method to produce the desired result. Soft power makes it possible to attract people to your side without the use of violence. In the USA, Germany, Great Britain and some other Western countries, psychotherapy methods are seen as elements of soft power aimed at forming a pro-Western worldview and value system. The promotion of certain psychotherapeutic methods in Eastern Europe, post- Soviet countries and China is financed by Western funds affiliated with government agencies. Therefore, we can recall that western psychotherapy in Ukraine began to take root in the population with the support of various western foundations and institutions, starting around 2005, and in Belarus since 2012 In April 2022, on VKontakte, we conducted a survey of Russian psychotherapists "Dear colleagues, are you able to distinguish Good from Evil?" 86 specialists participated in the survey. The sample group was random. Almost 40% of respondents admitted that they were unable to distinguish Good from Evil. In a situation where the main urgent request of clients is to develop their own position in relation to a special military operation in Ukraine, this indicator shows the confusion of the specialists themselves working in western psychotherapeutic approaches. In order to solve the problem, it is necessary to remove the unspoken public ban on the development of Russian methods of worldview psychotherapy (there are no such restrictions for western specialists) and the development of proactive psychotherapists and psychologists-consultants.
