Abstract (sommario):
An irrigation scheduling model for turnip (Brassica rapa L.) was validated using a line-source irrigation system in a 2-year field trial. The model used a water balance, a variable root length, and a crop factor function of plant age (i). Evapotranspiration was computed daily as class A pan evaporation times a crop factor [CF(i) = 0.365 + 0.0154i-0.00011i2]. Irrigation according to the model maintained soil water tension at <25 kPa at a 30-cm depth. When rainfall amounts were less than water use, leaf yields responded quadratically to irrigation rates, from 0% to 160% of the model rate, and the highest leaf yield with the lowest water applications corresponded to the model rate. Therefore, this model could replace the “feel or see” methods commonly used for scheduling irrigation of leafy vegetables grown in the southeastern United States.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The density of Bloch modes inside a one dimensional photonic crystal (1D PC) is formulated based on its dispersion relations. This density function has applications in thermal emission inside a 1D PC, as well as controlling the dynamics of active materials embedded in them. After deriving the formulations, a practical 1D PC parameters in the visible range are used to calculate the density of transverse electric and transverse magnetic modes. Compared to the alternative methods such as using Dyadic Greens functions, this method is less complex and is exact. The method applies to any anisotropic medium for which the dispersion equations are available, analytically.

Abstract (sommario):
Riccati differential equations (RDEs) plays important role in the various fields of defence, physics, engineering, medical science, and mathematics. A new approach to find the numerical solution of a class of RDEs with quadratic nonlinearity is presented in this paper. In the process of solving the pre-mentioned class of RDEs, we used an ordered combination of Green’s function, Adomian’s polynomials, and Pade` approximation. This technique is named as green decomposition method with Pade` approximation (GDMP). Since, the most contemporary definition of Adomian polynomials has been used in GDMP. Therefore, a specific class of Adomian polynomials is used to advance GDMP to modified green decomposition method with Pade` approximation (MGDMP). Further, MGDMP is applied to solve some special RDEs, belonging to the considered class of RDEs, absolute error of the obtained solution is compared with Adomian decomposition method (ADM) and Laplace decomposition method with Pade` approximation (LADM-Pade`). As well, the impedance of the method emphasised with the comparative error tables of the exact solution and the associated solutions with respect to ADM, LADM-Pade`, and MGDMP. The observation from this comparative study exhibits that MGDMP provides an improved numerical solution in the given interval. In spite of this, generally, some of the particular RDEs (with variable coefficients) cannot be easily solved by some of the existing methods, such as LADM-Pade` or Homotopy perturbation methods. However, under some limitations, MGDMP can be successfully applied to solve such type of RDEs.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives Older adults with HIV are at a higher risk for muscle loss and physical dysfunction which may be influenced by nutritional intake. The aim of this study was to examine dietary quality and its associations with muscle mass, strength, and function in older Veterans with HIV. Methods This is a cross-sectional study of sedentary older Veterans with HIV aged ≥50 years. Participants were tested for grip strength (kg) over body mass index (BMI, kg/m2), gait speed (4 meters walk, m/s), and appendicular lean mass (ALM) over BMI. Dietary quality was measured by the Healthy Eating Index (HEI-2015) using data obtained from three 24-hour dietary recalls. The HEI-2015 is comprised of 13 components (e.g., vegetables, greens and beans, fruits, dairy, and proteins). Each component was scored on density out of 1000 calories and summed to a total diet quality score (0–100). The total score was divided to high (HEI > 64, top 20%) vs. low (HEI ≤ 64). Multivariable linear regressions were developed to examine the HEI-2015 and its association with each muscle measure while controlling for age (years), race/ethnicity (Non-Hispanic (NH) Blacks vs. Whites), and BMI (only in gait speed model). Results Overall, 40 participants with mean (±SD) age of 60.6 ± 6.5 years were included. Of those, 95% were males, 70% NH-Blacks, and mean BMI was 28.2 ± 5.3. The total dietary quality score was 52.98 ± 12.3. Most of the participants consumed sufficient proteins (87.5%) but only 50.0% included sufficient intake of seafood and plant proteins. The results indicated a lack of intake in vegetables, greens and beans, fruits, whole grain, and dairy. After adjustment, the final models showed that higher dietary quality (HEI > 64 vs. HEI ≤ 64) was associated with grip strength/BMI (β = 0.37, 95% CI: 0.02–0.71), and did not reach statistical significance with ALM/BMI (β = 0.09, 95% CI: −0.04–0.22), or with gait speed (β = 0.05, 95% CI: −0.11–0.21). Conclusions In this sample, older Veterans with HIV tended to have a low diet quality with insufficient intake of imperative foods which is associated with reduced muscular strength. High dietary quality might be associated with improved physical function in this population that needs to be investigated in larger and prospective studies. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives This study aimed to examine the individual associations between dietary intake of vitamin K and leafy green vegetables with cognitive functioning in the US population of adults aged 60 years or older. Methods Cross-sectional data of older adults (≥60years; n = 2,342) from the 2011–2014 NHANES were analyzed. Dietary data were assessed by two 24-hour dietary recalls. ‘Low intake of vitamin K’ was defined as below the recommended daily intake (RDI) (i.e.,< 90mcg for women, < 120mcg for men). ‘Low intake of leafy green vegetables’ was defined as consuming below 90gr a day of green vegetables (e.g., broccoli, asparagus, green pees and beans) and below 30gr a day of leafy greens (e.g., kale, spinach, celery, and lettuce). The cognitive functioning assessment included four separate tests and their ‘overall score’: (1) The Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD) word learning test; (2) Delayed Word Recall (DWR); (3) the Animal Fluency Test (AFT); (4) the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST). Low cognitive functioning was defined as receiving the lowest 20th percentile on each test score. Weighted logistic regressions examined the study aims by tests while controlling for associated covariates: age, sex, race/ethnicity, socioeconomics, body mass index, lifestyle factors, energy intake, chronic diseases, and antithrombotic medication. Results More than half of the sample (55%) did not consume sufficient intake of vitamin K a day, and about two thirds (66%) were defined as having low intake of leafy green vegetables. The multivariable model showed that participants with low intake of vitamin K are more likely, by 45–111%, to have low cognitive functioning than those with sufficient intake of vitamin K (overall score: Odds Ratio (OR) = 1.75, 95% CI: 1.36–2.26). Participants with low intake of leafy green vegetables had higher odds of having low cognitive functioning in three tests (i.e., CERAD, DWR, AFT) (ORs = 1.40–1.57) and in the overall test score (OR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.14–1.87) than those who consumed ≥90 gr of green vegetables or ≥30 gr of leafy greens a day. Conclusions Low intakes of dietary vitamin K and leafy green vegetables might be linked with cognitive function impairment in older adults. The causality of such associations needs to be examined using prospective study design or interventions. Funding Sources N/A.

Abstract (sommario):
Until recently, reactor transient problems were exclusively solved by approximate deterministic methods. The increase in available computing power made it feasible to approach the transient analyses with time-dependent Monte Carlo methods. These methods offer the first-principle solution to the space-time evolution of reactor power by explicitly tracking prompt neutrons, precursors of delayed neutrons and delayed neutrons in time and space. Nevertheless, a very significant computing cost is associated with such methods. The general benefits of the Monte Carlo approach may be retained at a reduced computing cost by applying a hybrid stochastic-deterministic computing scheme. Among such schemes are those based on the fission matrix and the response matrix formalisms. These schemes aim at estimating a variant of the Greens function during a Monte Carlo transport calculation, which is later used to formulate a deterministic approach to solving a space-time dependent problem. In this contribution, we provide an overview of the time-dependent response matrix method, which describes a system by a set of response functions. We have recently suggested an approach where the functions are determined during a Monte Carlo criticality calculation and are then used to deterministically solve the space-time behaviour of the system. Here, we compare the time-dependent response matrix solution with the transient fission matrix and the time-dependent Monte Carlo solutions for a control rod movement problem in a mini-core reactor geometry. The response matrix formalism results in a set of loosely connected equations which offers favourable scaling properties compared to the methods based on the fission matrix formalism.

Abstract (sommario):
A singular integral equation for an electric dipole has been obtained, which makes it possible to take into account the finite conductivity of the metal from which it is made. The derivation of the singular integral equation is based on the application of the Greens function for free space, written in a cylindrical coordinate system, taking into account the absence of the dependence of the field on the azimuthal coordinate, on a point source located on the surface of an electric dipole. Methods for its solution are proposed. In contrast to the well-known mathematical models of an electric dipole, built in the approximation of an ideal conductor, the use of the singular integral equation obtained in this work makes it possible to take into account heat losses and calculate the efficiency.

Abstract (sommario):
The ab initio calculation of molecular electron affinities (EA) and ionization potentials (IP) is a difficult task because the energy of interest is a very small fraction of the total electronic energy of the parent species. For example, EAs typically lie in the 0.01-10 eV range, but the total electronic energy of even a small molecule, radical, or ion is usually several orders of magnitude larger. Moreover, the EA or IP is an intensive quantity but the total energy is an extensive quantity, so the difficulty in evaluating EAs and IPs to within a fixed specified (e.g., ±0.1 eV) accuracy becomes more and more difficult as the system's size and number of electrons grows. The situation becomes especially problematic when studying extended systems such as solids, polymers, or surfaces for which the EA or IP is an infinitesimal fraction of the total energy. EOM methods such as the author developed in the 1970s offer a route to calculating the intensive EAs and IPs directly as eigenvalues of a set of working equations. A history of the development of EOM theories as applied to EAs and IPs, their numerous practical implementations, and their relations to Greens function or propagator theories are given in this contribution. EOM methods based upon Møller-Plesset, multiconfiguration self-consistent field, and coupled-cluster reference wave functions are included in the discussion as is the application of EOM methods to metastable states of anions.

Abstract (sommario):
A new generation of self-consistent calculations has deepened our understanding of how nuclei are bound and the structure and spatial extent of their wavefunctions. New methods are being developed to calculate nuclear properties starting from realistic unrenormalized two-body nucleon-nucleon potentials. Higher order correlations are needed to reproduce both masses and spectra, and the special importance of three-body correlations has become clear. Precise experimental measurements can help improve the calculations and constrain the form and strength of three body Hamiltonians. In this contribution, I will review new calculations on A =10 nuclei made with the Greens Function Monte Carlo method (GFMC) using a variety of three-body interactions, and new experiments designed to measure the lifetime of excited states with an improved Doppler Shift Attenuation Method (DSAM*). The electromagnetic matrix elements are determined to a level of precision, <5%, that really challenge GFMC and other contemporary theories.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives The Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), which is designed to reflect the 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), and its association with muscle function decline (i.e., sarcopenia) is less known in the U.S. Our study aim was to examine the associations between HEI-2015 component and total scores with sarcopenia in a nationally representative sample of the U.S. adult population. Methods This cross-sectional study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys of 2011–2014. Sarcopenia was assessed by handgrip strength measure using an average score of six trails (<35.5kg for males, <20.0kg for females). HEI-2015 was computed from data of two 24-hour dietary recalls and comprised 13 components (e.g., vegetables, greens and beans, fruits, dairy, protein foods, whole grains, fatty acid ratio, refined grains, sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars). Each component was scored on density out of 1000 calories and summed to a total score divided into quintiles. Weighted logistic regressions examined the study aim while controlling for associated covariates: age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, body mass index (BMI), physical activity, comorbidity, medication use, smoking status, and alcohol use. Results The sample included 9006 eligible participants aged 20–80 years, of those, 14.4% had sarcopenia, where males had higher sarcopenia prevalence than females (18.4 vs. 10.7%, P < 0.001), and participants with sarcopenia were older (p < 0.001). Scores for HEI-2015 were total: 54.2 ± 13.6 (mean ± SD), and in the lowest and highest quintiles: 35.9 ± 4.8 and 73.9 ± 5.95, respectively. In the multivariable model, participants in the highest HEI-2015 quintile had 28% lower odds of having sarcopenia (Odds Ratio(OR) = 0.72, 95%CI: 0.55–0.94) compared with those in the lowest quintile. Among the HEI-2015 components; consuming adequate amount of protein foods, greens and beans, vegetables, and whole fruits reduced the odd of having sarcopenia by 18–23%. Conclusions The findings suggest that higher compliance to the 2015–2020 DGA might reduce sarcopenia among U.S. adults, particularly adequate intakes of protein foods, greens and beans, vegetables, and whole fruits. Abstract (sommario):
We present an elementary and fairly detailed review of several Green’s function methods for treating nuclear and other many-body systems. We first treat the single-particle Green’s function, by way of which some details concerning linked diagram expansion, rules for evaluating Green’s function diagrams and solution of the Dyson’s integral equation for Green’s function are exhibited. The particle-particle hole-hole (pphh) Green’s function is then considered, and a specific time-blocking technique is discussed. This technique enables us to have a one-frequency Dyson’s equation for the pphh and similarly for other Green’s functions, thus considerably facilitating their calculation. A third type of Green’s function considered is the particle-hole Green’s function. RPA and high order RPA are treated, along with examples for setting up particle-hole RPA equations. A general method for deriving a model-space Dyson’s equation for Green’s functions is discussed. We also discuss a method for determining the normalization of Green’s function transition amplitudes based on its vertex function. Some applications of Green’s function methods to nuclear structure and recent deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering are addressed.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper considers the first boundary value problem for a second-order semilinear elliptic equation. Problems of this class often arise in the modeling of processes occurring in chemistry, physics, biology, etc. A special place among the methods of analysis of the problems under consideration is occupied by the so-called constructive research methods, which allow not only to prove the existence of a problem solution, but also offer an algorithm for finding it with a given accuracy. For a constructive study of a nonlinear boundary value problem, it is proposed to use two versions of the method of two-sided approximations. Both methods are based on the transition from a differential problem to an equivalent nonlinear integral equation (using the Green’s function or using the Green-Rvachev’s quasi-function), which is analyzed by methods of the theory of nonlinear operators in semi-ordered Banach spaces. Conclusions about the existence of positive solutions of the constructed integral equations and the two-sided convergence of successive approximations to these solutions are made on the basis of the results of V.I. Opojcev on the solvability of nonlinear equations with a heterotone operator. The practical implementation of the method of two-sided approximations based on the use of the Green's function has certain limitations associated with the need to have an explicit expression for this function, which narrows the range of areas in which the method can actually be applied. The method of two-sided approximations, based on the use of the Green-Rvachev’s quasi-function, which can be constructed using the apparatus of the R-functions theory for regions of sufficiently arbitrary geometry, is free from this shortcoming. The proposed methods are illustrated by computational experiments for elliptic equations with Laplace and Helmholtz operators and heterotone power nonlinearity in a number of two- and three-dimensional domains. The results of both methods of two-sided approximations were compared with each other.

Abstract (sommario):
Multiarrival Green’s functions are essential in seismic modeling, migration, and inversion. Huygens-Kirchhoff (HK) integrals provide a bridge to integrate locally valid first-arrival Green’s functions into a globally valid multiarrival Green’s function. We have designed robust and accurate finite-difference methods to compute first-arrival traveltimes and amplitudes, so that first-arrival Green’s functions can be constructed rapidly. We adapted a fast butterfly algorithm to evaluate discretized HK integrals. The resulting fast Huygens’ sweeping method has the following unique features: (1) it precomputes a set of local traveltime and amplitude tables, (2) it automatically takes care of caustics, (3) it constructs Green’s functions of the Helmholtz equation for arbitrary frequencies and for many point sources, and (4) for a fixed number of points per wavelength, it constructs each Green’s function in nearly optimal complexity [Formula: see text] in terms of the total number of mesh points [Formula: see text], where the prefactor of the complexity only depends on the specified accuracy, and is independent of the frequency. The 2D and 3D examples revealed the performance of the method.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This paper aims to present a meshless technique to find the Green’s functions for solutions of Laplacian boundary value problems on rectangular domains. This paper also investigates a theoretical basis for the Steklov series expansion methods to reduce and estimate the error of numerical approaches for the boundary correction kernel of the Laplace operator. Design/methodology/approach The main interest is how the Green's functions differ from the fundamental solution of the Laplace operator. Steklov expansion methods for finding the correction term are supported by the analysis that bases of the class of all finite harmonic functions can be formed using harmonic Steklov eigenfunctions. These functions construct a basis of the space of solutions of harmonic boundary value problems and their boundary traces generate an orthogonal basis of the trace space of solutions on the boundary. Findings The main conclusion is that the boundary correction term for the Green's functions is well-approximated by Steklov expansions with a few Steklov eigenfunctions. The error estimates for the Steklov approximations of the boundary correction term involved in Dirichlet or Robin boundary value problems are found. They appear to provide very good approximations in the interior of the region and become quite oscillatory close to the boundary. Originality/value This paper concentrates to document the first attempt to find the Green's function for various harmonic boundary value problems with the explicit Steklov eigenfunctions without concerns regarding discretizations when the region is a rectangle.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper deals with the spectral methods to calculate the value of the double barrier option generated by the Bessel diffusion process. This technique enables us to calculate the option price in the form of a Fourier-Bessel series with the corresponding ratio. The autors propose a simple method to estimate options using the Green’s expansion function for boundary value problem for a singular parabolic equation. Thus, the accuracy of the estimation coincides with the accuracy of the convergence of the Fourier-Bessel series. In this paper, the authors use the spectral theory to calculate the price of derivatives of financial assets considering that the processes described are by Markov and can be considered in Hilbert spaces. In this work, the authors use the diffusion process to find derivatives prices by introducing them through the Bessel functions of first kind. They also examine the Sturm-Liouville problem where the boundary conditions utilize the Bessel functions and their derivatives. All assumptions lead to analytical formulae that are consistent with the empirical evidence and, when implemented in practice, reflect adequately the passage of processes on stock markets. The authors also focus on the financial flows generated by Bessel diffusion processes which are presented in the system of Bessel functions of the first order under the condition that the linear combination of the flow and its spatial derivative are taken into account. Such a presentation enables us to calculate the market value of a share portfolio, provides the measurement of internal volatility in the market at any given time, and allows us to investigate the dynamics of the stock market. The splitting of Green’s function in the system of Bessel functions is presented by an analytical formula which is convenient for calculating the price level of options.

Abstract (sommario):
SUMMARY In a dislocation problem, a paradoxical discordance is known to occur between an original smooth curve and an infinitesimally discretized curve. To solve this paradox, we have investigated a non-hypersingular expression for the integral kernel (called the stress Green’s function) which describes the stress field caused by the displacement discontinuity. We first develop a compact alternative expression of the non-hypersingular stress Green’s function for general 2-D and 3-D infinite homogeneous elastic media. We next compute the stress Green’s functions on a curved fault and revisit the paradox. We find that previously obtained non-hypersingular stress Green’s functions are incorrect for curved faults, and that smooth and infinitesimally segmented faults are equivalent. Their compatibility bridges the gap between analytical methods featuring curved faults and numerical methods using subdivided flat patches.

Abstract (sommario):
An efficient method for the numerical evaluation of the free-surface Green function for deep-water application was presented by Telste & Noblesse (1986) and again by Ponizy et al (1994). A FORTRAN code was include in their 1986 paper. The numerical method makes use of known mathematical functions. Numerical values of some of these mathematical functions were depicted, but no verification on the accuracy of the Green function routine in an application was given. The purpose of this paper is to compare their numerical values in the near-field and far-field regions with other similar computation for the infinite-depth Green function. The results of the infinite-depth Green function are also compared with the results from the finite-depth Green function that is more time consuming. Based on the accuracy of the various methods, the regions of application of the efficient deepwater Green function formulation and the effect of the water depth on the Green function are discussed. Any regions of inaccurate results are noted. Forces on submerged offshore structures and motions of the floating structures are determined using the lower-order panel method and these different Green function routines. The results on the motions of a semisubmersible in various water depths are compared and the accuracy of these routines in various regions is shown. The presented results will help the hydrodynamicist and designer to evaluate the suitable formulation and its regions of application for the accurate analysis and design of offshore structures.

Abstract (sommario):
Recent papers show that imaging with the retrieved Green’s function constructed by the Marchenko equations, called Marchenko imaging, reduces artifacts from internal and free-surface multiples compared with standard imaging techniques. Even though artifacts are reduced, they can still be present in the image, depending on the imaging condition used. We have found that when imaging with the up- and downgoing Green’s functions, the multidimensional deconvolution (MDD) imaging condition yields better images than correlation and deconvolution. “Better” in this case means improved resolution, fewer artifacts, and a closer match with the true reflection coefficient of the model. We have determined that the MDD imaging condition only uses primaries to construct the image, whereas multiples are implicitly subtracted in the imaging step. Consequently, combining the first arrival of the downgoing Green’s function with the complete upgoing Green’s function produces superior (or at least equivalent) images than using the one-way Green’s functions because the first arrival of the downgoing Green’s function excludes all the downgoing multiply reflected waves. We also find that standard imaging algorithms which use the redatumed reflection response, constructed with the one-way Green’s functions, produce images with reduced artifacts from multiples compared with standard imaging conditions, which use surface reflection data. All imaging methods that rely on the Marchenko equations require the same inputs as standard imaging techniques: the reflection response at the surface and a smooth estimate of the subsurface velocities.

Abstract (sommario):
Architectural work cannot be separated from the activities of human beings as users. A thing is to be called good or has a high value if they function the way they are supposed to. As time goes by, architectural work is used not only to fulfill the need of space but also to have innovation in its design so that it is an environmental friendly, make lower the impacts that are damaging or even destroying the environment. The method is used in this paper is a literature study and observation of the case study. Based on the needs of the users, good architecture is the one that meets the needs of the users, the architectural functions, and is able to diminish the bad impacts toward the environment. Green building that is used in this case study fulfills the six architectural functions such as methods, use, need, telesis, association, and aesthetics. Architectural work is considered good when it meets the user’s need for space, is using a minimal amount of resources during the development as well as maintenance and makes lower impacts for the environment.

Abstract (sommario):
A method for approximate analytical solution of transport equation for particles in plane geometry is developed by solving Fredholm integral equations. Kernels of these equations are the Green's functions for infinite media treated approximately. Analytical approximation of Green's function is based on decomposition of the functions into terms that are exactly analytically solved and those which are approximately obtained by usual low order DPN approximation. Transport of particles in half-space is treated, and reflection coefficient is determined in the form of an analytical function. Comparison with the exact numerical solution and other approximate methods justified the proposed analytical technique.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for patients with hematological malignancies is curative, but the success of the procedure is limited by graft versus host disease (GvHD). Donor T-cells present in the graft are critical for the graft-versus-leukemia effect (GvL) of the transplant and important in facilitating bone marrow reconstitution, but also contribute to development of GvHD, and the risk of GvHD increases dramatically when the donor and recipient are not matched at all of the HLA loci. Hence, there is an urgent need for new approaches to curb GvHD and facilitate transplantation of HLA mismatched grafts to improve patient outcomes. Here, we have used an MHC-mismatched mouse model of GvHD to develop a novel and powerful approach to improve the success of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation by limiting GvHD. We identified a tryptophan metabolite, indole-3-carboxaldehyde (ICA), a dietary component present in foods such as collard greens and broccoli, that prevents lethal GvHD and allows normal engraftment by allogeneic donor bone marrow when fed to transplant recipients for the first few weeks after transplant. Methods: Lethally irradiated B10.BR (H2k) mice were transplanted with 3 x 106 T cell depleted bone marrow cells (TCD-BM) alone or the combination of TCD-BM plus 2 x 106 purified T cells from B6 (H2b) donor mice. Mice received daily gavage with 100 mg/kg or 150 mg/kg ICA or vehicle through day 38 post-transplant. Survival and clinical manifestations of GvHD were monitored through day 62. Histopathology of the gut, cytokines in serum and colon homogenates, intracellular cytokine staining of donor T-cells and bacterial counts in mesenteric lymph nodes (using blood agar plates) were measured in a separate cohort of experimental mice euthanized on day 20. Additionally, a secondary transplant was conducted to test the allo-proliferative capacity (in vivo CFSE dilution assay) and GvHD activity of T-cells from spleens of mice in the TCD-BM + T cells + 150 mg/kg ICA group that survived to day 62, compared to B6 T cells, in combination with fresh B6 TCD-BM, in B10.BR recipients. Results and Conclusion: Figure 1 shows survival curves for mice transplanted with TCD-BM + T-cells that were fed vehicle (red), 100 mg/kg/day of ICA (blue), or 150 mg/kg/day of ICA (green) by oral gavage. Only 7% of the recipients of TCD-BM + T cells treated with vehicle only survived to day 46. ICA administration improved survival in a dose-dependent manner: recipients given 100 mg/kg/day of ICA had 20% survival at day 52 (**p = 0.009) and administration of 150 mg/kg/day of ICA resulted in 83% survival of recipients of TCD-BM + T cells (***p <0.001). ICA was well tolerated without serious toxicity in recipients of BM grafts without GvHD-causing T-cells (thin black solid line). ICA-treated recipients of TCD-BM + T cells had improved thymopoiesis and decreased levels of inflammatory cytokines. Histological analysis of colonic tissue from these ICA-treated recipients also showed marked reduction of GvHD pathology and decreased bacterial colonization of mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN) compared to vehicle-treated control animals (Figure 2, *p < 0.01), indicating enhanced gastrointestinal barrier function. T cells recovered from ICA-treated TCD-BM + T cell transplant recipients at day 62 had been rendered tolerant to recipient type alloantigens in secondary transplant in vivo assays as shown by reduced proliferation of CFSE-stained T cells and lack of GvHD activity in secondary B10.BR recipients. These data indicate that enteral administration of ICA, a natural compound present in food, causes a dramatic reduction of GvHD in a MHC mismatched model of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. We postulate that this effect is mediated through activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor in innate lymphoid cells in the lamina propria of the gut, stimulating regeneration of the gut epithelium and reducing trans-epithelial migration of gut bacteria that contribute to GvHD. Further development and exploration of the mechanism by which ICA treatment reduces GvHD could have a major impact on improving the safety of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, and increase the availability of donors for those patients who currently lack an HLA matched sibling or volunteer donor. Abstract (sommario):
The application for the integrals of the motion of a quantum system in deriving Green function or propagator is presented. The Green function is shown to be the eigenfunction of the integrals of the motion which described initial points of the system trajectory in the phase space. The exact expressions for the Green functions of the dual damped oscillators and the coupled harmonic oscillators are evaluated in co-ordinate representations. The relation between the integrals of the motion method and other methods such as Feynman path integral and Schwinger method are also presented.
