Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The author discuss effectiveness of cartographic presentations. The article includes opinions of cartographers regarding effectiveness, readability and efficiency of a map. It reminds the principles of map graphic design in order to verify them using examples of small-scale thematic maps. The following questions have been asked: Is the map effective? Why is the map effective? How do cartographic presentation methods affect effectiveness of the cartographic message? What else can influence effectiveness of a map? Each graphic presentation should be effective, as its purpose is to complete written word, draw the recipients’ attention, make text more readable, expose the most important information. Such a significant role of graphics results in the fact that graphic presentations (maps, diagrams) require proper preparation. Users need to have a chance to understand the graphics language in order to draw correct conclusions about the presented phenomenon. Graphics should demonstrate the most important elements, some tendencies, and directions of changes. It should generalize and present a given subject from a slightly different perspective. There are numerous examples of well-edited and poorly edited small-scale thematic maps. They include maps, which are impossible to interpret correctly. They are burdened with methodological defects and they cannot fulfill their task. Cartography practice indicates that the principles related to graphic design of cartographic presentation are frequently omitted during the process of developing small-scale thematic maps used – among others – in the press and on the Internet. The purpose of such presentations is to quickly interpret them. On such maps editors’ problems with the selection of an appropriate symbol and graphic variable (fig. 1A, 9B) are visible. Sometimes they use symbols which are not sufficiently distinguishable nor demonstrative (fig. 11), it does not increase their readability. Sometime authors try too hard to reflect presented phenomenon and therefore the map becomes more difficult to interpret (fig. 4A,B). The lack of graphic sense resulting in the lack of graphic balance and aesthetics constitutes a weak point of numerous cartographic presentations (fig. 13). Effectiveness of cartographic presentations consists of knowledge and skills of the map editor, as well as the recipients’ perception capabilities and their readiness to read and interpret maps. The qualifications of the map editor should include methodological qualifications supported by the knowledge of the principles for cartographic symbol design, as well as relevant technical qualifications, which allow to properly use the tools to edit a map. Maps facilitate the understanding of texts they accompany and they present relationships between phenomenon better than texts, appealing to the senses.

Abstract (sommario):
Artistic graphic design is the aesthetic result of the designer’s fusion of various elements, with a high degree of independence. Considering the lack of significant visual design scope and aesthetic indicators of graphic design, our research aims to build an upgraded network model that can categorize different types of artistic graphics with labels and realize the free combination of graphic solutions. We realize the scheme reorganization of artistic graphic design from the perspective of computer vision and propose the artistic graphic design method based on memory neural network. We built a computer vision environment and reconstructed the computer vision network to set up an independent deep camera vision range calculation law. Considering the artistic graphic region segmentation problem, we propose the self-attentive mechanism, which can quantitatively segment different artistic graphic regions according to temporal features, before arranging them in a sequence to obtain the graphic region feature vector. We also add the LSTM structure based on the attention mechanism to match with the self-attention features of the graphical region segmentation module and pass the matched attention feature vector to the LSTM network to extract the labeled text feature information of the graphs. To test the effectiveness of our method, we build a database of artistic graphics and set up an adaptive training process. We also compared deep learning methods of the same type, and the experimental results proved that our method outperformed other deep methods in artistic graphic design by keeping the scheme reorganization accuracy and quantitative evaluation of artistic models above 90%.

Abstract (sommario):
The work of William Playfair, who is often landed as an originator of most modern-day graphic methods, has received very Utile systematic scrutiny and analysis. Playfair made his graphic debut with the publication in 1786 of The commercial and political atlas; this cycled through several editions and permutations* With one or two exceptions, Play f air's second major graphic contribution was A letter on our agricultural distresses, their causes and remedies of 1821, While Playfak has been credited with having 'invented' bar, circle and pie graphics, it was ime graphics he favoured most and used most frequently This paper contains some observations on the evolution of his approach to the design of line graphics; it examines some of the pitfalls of this approach. His astute insight into the value of the graphic method is most noteworthy and is also examined in this paper.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: The ability of students to engage with graphical materials supports learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics areas. For students with visual impairments, understanding the factors that contribute to the effective interpretation of graphics can promote meaningful access to the curricula. Methods: Forty students with visual impairments completed multiple-choice question tasks for five types of graphics presented in their medium of choice and provided difficulty ratings. The teachers of students with visual impairments rated the students on several factors. Statistical analyses investigated the relationship between performance differences and teacher-rated factors. Results: Significant differences in performance between print and tactile graphics users were found for bar graph, map, and total correct responses on all tasks. For some tasks, perceived difficulty by tactile graphic users did not align with actual performance. Teachers’ ratings of students who had Individualized Education Program goals for graphics, independence in using graphics, problem-solving ability, mathematics ability, and frequency of engaging with graphics contributed to significant differences in performance across total correct and most individual graphic results. Discussion: Although medium type was a significant contributor across graphic types, some teacher-rated variables appeared to mitigate the importance of medium on student performance. Depending on the graphic type, experience, content knowledge, skills with graphics, and confidence and motivation can all affect student performance when interpreting graphics. Implications for practitioners: Teachers should provide students with early and frequent opportunities to engage with graphics and support their problem-solving abilities regarding how to engage with different graphic types to enhance their independent use of graphics.

Abstract (sommario):
With the development and application of artificial intelligence, the technical methods of intelligent image processing and graphic design need to be explored to realize the intelligent graphic design based on traditional graphics such as pottery engraving graphics. An optimized method is aimed to be explored to extract the image features from traditional engraving graphics on historical relics and apply them into intelligent graphic design. For this purpose, an image feature extracted model based on convolution operation is proposed. Parametric test and effectiveness research are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. Theoretical and practical research shows that the image-extracted model has a significant effect on the extraction of image features from traditional engraving graphics because the image brightness processing greatly simplifies the process of image feature extraction, and the convolution operation improves the accuracy. Based on the brightness feature map output from the proposed model, the design algorithm of intelligent feature graphic is presented to create the feature graphics, which can be directly applied to design the intelligent graphical interface. Taking some pottery engraving graphics from the Neolithic Age as an example, we conduct the practice on image feature extraction and feature graphic design, the results of which further verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the application of traditional engraving graphics in intelligent graphical interface design for AI products such as smart tourism products, smart museums, and so on.

Abstract (sommario):
Recent developments in applied algebraic topology can simplify and extend results in graphic statics – the analysis of equilibrium forces, dual diagrams, and more. The techniques introduced here are inspired by recent developments in cellular cosheaves and their homology. While the general theory has a few technical prerequisites (including homology and exact sequences), an elementary introduction based on little more than linear algebra is possible. A few classical results, such as Maxwell's Rule and 2D graphic statics duality, are quickly derived from core ideas in algebraic topology. Contributions include: (1) a reformulation of statics and planar graphic statics in terms of cosheaves and their homology; (2) a new proof of Maxwell's Rule in arbitrary dimensions using Euler characteristic; and (3) derivation of a novel relationship between mechanisms of the form diagram and obstructions to the generation of force diagrams. This last contribution presages deeper results beyond planar graphic statics.

Abstract (sommario):
The creative work of the famous Ukrainian artist Oleh Denysenko has been repeatedly recognized abroad and in Ukraine by both representatives of artistic circles and collectors. For the entire period of his artistic practice, no thorough research of his work and experimental searches in graphics has been made, nor has the artist's creative style and graphic language been described. The artist's work was mentioned in some articles, superficially revealed in studies of the creative work of representatives of the Lviv graphic school working in certain graphic techniques and trends. The figure of O. Denysenko has long occupied a significant place among the representatives of Ukrainian printmaking and graphics. This is the case when the artist and his work are more recognized abroad than in Ukraine. Denysenko is a representative of artistic techniques that have existed for more than five centuries, who is not afraid to improve, experiment, and make new searches for graphic embodiment of images and philosophical considerations. The article explores artistic practices and experiments in graphics on the example of the series of graphic works «ecoline». Attention is drawn to the process of searching for new images, methods and visual techniques, as well as to the means of revealing artistic expression. An overview of the stylization, expressiveness of the graphic language and individual manner is given. The possibility of further studying the transformation of graphic images in other techniques and plot compositions is considered. The basis of experimental searches, the emergence of figurative and symbolic interpretations, and the author's innovations are revealed.

Abstract (sommario):
The article represents detailed stages and results of performing graphic still-lifes with ink in three main techniques: "lines", "spots", "hatches". Examples and types for setting still-life or alternative using photo images taken from open sources with mandatory changes and introduced details are given. Also the principles and examples for performing graphic and tonal sketches are presented, as an important stage in the search for a composition, which are reproduced on formats of graphic still-lifes through their spot solution to be the most objective and expressive. The technique for making a "cardboard" – a preparatory drawing and transferring the image to the formats of three graphic still-lifes is presented. The usage of tonal graphic sketches and "cardboard" is suggested along with traditional manual techniques and computer (digital) graphics technology. The principles and methods for using lines when creating a graphic still-life in the appropriate technique and variants of performing graphic still-lifes in the techniques of "lines", "spots" in comparison with each other are presented. The principles of division and combination of white and black with variants of their combinatorics are considered on the examples of graphic still-lifes in the "spot" technique. The stages for performing graphic still-lifes in the "hatching" technique, from the disclosure of large tonal gradations to the generalization of the work, are considered in detail. The methods for using different hatching techniques on different parts of the image of a graphic still-life are given. By the separate block for each section of the specified three graphic techniques the parallel between graphic still-lifes as educational tasks and graphic works of professional artists of Ukraine and the world is demonstrated.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of the article is to generalize and systematize the graphic and compositional parameters of G. Narbut's book graphics and to find ways of their interpretation in modern graphic design. The methodology of the research is represented by general scientific and special methods. Analysis, synthesis, comparative, systemic, and empirical methods have become basic in the study of literature and empirical material. Comparative, compositional, visual-graphic, and descriptive methods were used to identify the figurative and semantic characteristics of G. Narbut's graphic works and their influence on modern design. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the complex analysis of G. Narbut's graphic works, revealing the peculiarities of their graphic-compositional solutions and determining the principles of their interpretation in modern design practice. Conclusions. It is revealed that in the context of the formation of the national model of Ukrainian graphic design today, the work of G. Narbut needs not copying, but careful rethinking. The study, systematization, and generalization of the artist's experience open the prospect of development and interpretation in the works of designers of the XXI century. The algorithm of such interpretation is a holistic approach to design and composition; rethinking form from the point of view of traditional art; synthesis of geometric calculation and complex artistic image; the contrast between primary and secondary elements; rhythmic repetitions; emphasis on the vertical axis of symmetry and the author's presentation, corresponding to the demands of today.

Abstract (sommario):
BACKGROUND: Pulmonary artery waveforms fluctuate because of changes in intrathoracic pressure caused by respirations. Monitoring system algorithms determine digital displays of pressure measurements on the basis of recognition, analysis, and comparison of consecutive waveforms. OBJECTIVE: To compare three methods of measuring pulmonary artery pressure during mechanical ventilation and spontaneous breathing in cardiac surgery patients with stable hemodynamics. METHODS: Pulmonary artery pressure was measured during mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery in 53 patients; 37 of the patients were studied again after extubation. Three monitoring methods were compared: graphic strip recording, the "stop cursor" (monitor screen freezing) method, and digital-display recording. Difference scores were calculated between the methods and analyzed for frequency and direction. RESULTS: All comparisons showed differences of at least +/-3 mm Hg in measurements obtained with the three methods. During mechanical ventilation, the digital and graphic measurements of systolic pressure varied most often; 57% (30/53) of the comparisons had difference scores of at least +/-3 mm Hg. The cursor and graphic measurements of diastolic pressures varied least often; 6% (3/53) of the comparisons had difference scores of at least +/-3 mm Hg. As expected, the digital method most often gave higher results than the graphic method. During spontaneous breathing, measurements of systolic pressure varied more often (38% to 53%) than did measurements of diastolic pressure (12% to 37%). Unexpectedly, for systolic pressures, the difference between digital and graphic measurements was 3 mm Hg or more 30% (11/37) of the time, and the difference between cursor and graphic measurements was 3 mm Hg or more 53% (17/32) of the time. CONCLUSIONS: Because of physiological and technical influences, measurements of systolic and diastolic pressures in the pulmonary artery made with the digital and cursor methods were not as reliable as measurements made with the graphic method. The findings support continued use of the graphic method for accurate measurements of pulmonary artery pressure.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to the methods of urban environment design of the XXI centuries by artistic and graphic means. The process of their inclusion in the urban environment was gradual. It began with painting, graphics, sculpture, arts and crafts and monumental arts. A new wave of artistic and graphic means in the urban environment began to develop intensively in the late nineteenth - early twentieth century. It was due to social and cultural processes in specific cities and countries. The use of various techniques in design began to be introduced from this period. In particular, such as: ready-made, found objects, assemblage, carving, lettering, perforation and others. Currently, there is a problem of perfection of such decisions with the intensification of the processes of participation in them not only professionals but also ordinary citizens. Artistic and graphic elements adjust the urban space to a certain thematic (content) atmosphere. They become a reflection of certain trends in art, but already in the urban space, like works of fine art in the interior. The most common among them are the following: surrealism; conceptuality; contextual game; visual illusion (optical illusion), irony, self-irony, wit, humor; metaphor (metaphorical poetics). Works of art give a wide range of possibilities for their application in architectural and urban planning. In practice, new artistic methods were developed along with the already known ways of designing the visual image of the elements. As a result of the analysis of a number of domestic and foreign cities the methods of design of the architectural environment based on active use of the invented art and graphic means are revealed. Among them are deliberate exaggeration of the image (scale, hyperbolization) and change the traditional shape and size of artistic elements, increase contrast, copying and repetition of the real landscapes, imitation of perspective images, and enrichment of the urban space with architectural details, creation of the provocation. The variety of artistic methods requires their correct application in the urban environment. It is necessary in order for them to perform their assigned role properly. The realization of creative artistic ideas in the urban spaces of the XXI century is due to the introduction of new engineering and creative forms, innovative technologies; introduction of significant supergraphic and font compositions, new techniques of evening lighting and color; tolerance in the use of graphic arts in historical spaces.

Abstract (sommario):
Fractal art graphics are the product of the fusion of mathematics and art, relying on the computing power of a computer to iteratively calculate mathematical formulas and present the results in a graphical rendering. The selection of the initial value of the first iteration has a greater impact on the final calculation result. If the initial value of the iteration is not selected properly, the iteration will not converge or will converge to the wrong result, which will affect the accuracy of the fractal art graphic design. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes an improved optimization method for selecting the initial value of the Gauss-Newton iteration method. Through the area division method of the system composed of the sensor array, the effective initial value of iterative calculation is selected in the corresponding area for subsequent iterative calculation. Using the special skeleton structure of Newton’s iterative graphics, such as infinitely finely inlaid chain-like, scattered-point-like composition, combined with the use of graphic secondary design methods, we conduct fractal art graphics design research with special texture effects. On this basis, the Newton iterative graphics are processed by dithering and MATLAB-based mathematical morphology to obtain graphics and then processed with the help of weaving CAD to directly form fractal art graphics with special texture effects. Design experiments with the help of electronic Jacquard machines proved that it is feasible to transform special texture effects based on Newton's iterative graphic design into Jacquard fractal art graphics.

Abstract (sommario):
OBJECTIVE: To discuss the use of statistical graphics in the analysis of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics data. METHODS: Information on graphic techniques and their application was retrieved from a MEDLINE search (January 1980–March 1997) of the English-language literature and bibliographic reviews of review articles and books. Data used to generate plots were extracted from some new drug applications submitted to the Food and Drug Administration and by simulation. DATA SYNTHESIS: In carrying out data analysis, we should look at data in several ways, construct a number of plots, and do several analyses, letting the results of each step suggest the next. The information from a plot should be relevant to the goals of the analysis. Thus, in choosing a graphic method, it is necessary to match the capabilities of the method to the need in the context of the application. For example, if linear relationships among variables in a set of multidimensional data are relevant, scatter plots such as the pairs plot with smoothing is likely to be more informative than other graphic methods. It is necessary to recognize what kinds of perceived structure are attributable to the data, and what kinds are artifacts of the display technique itself when using graphs for data analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Graphic techniques enable the data analyst to explore data thoroughly, look for patterns and relationships, confirm or disprove the expected, and discover new phenomena. An important element of statistical graphic techniques is flexibility, both in tailoring the analysis to the structure of the data and in responding to patterns that successive steps of analysis uncover. Statistical graphics can and should be used to enhance numeric statistical analyses.

Abstract (sommario):
In modern development of digital technologies education faces a difficult task: translation of previously accumulated knowledge and meeting the demands of the digital future in the XXI century. Digital transformation of education involves changing the ways and methods of teaching, as well as changing the subjects of education - the teacher and the student. A convenient tool of influence between a student and a teacher is a modular virtual educational platform (for example, Moodle), which allows studying the theoretical material, conducting practical classes and examinations. Combination of various technological techniques confirms the availability of their implementing for improving the quality of education in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standards, allows improving the quality of education in the context of a dynamically developing society. Certain approaches to the graphic training of students have been stated. Modeling the geometric shapes on the screen, in contrast to the traditional approach, develops the intellectual, cognitive and creative abilities of students, in most cases having insufficient graphic training. Working with graphics packages is impossible without the knowledge that is acquired in practical classes of Engineering Graphics. Actually, at the university engineering training is aimed at developing the skills of creating an information model of an object and forming project documentation based on it. Introducing the innovative methods and forms of education creates a new strategy of vocational training in a technical university. When studying the sections of mechanical engineering drawing, computer visibility allows to see the technical forms of the details, gives an idea of the manufacturing technology, control and assembly of products, which will help the student to correctly perform cuts, sections of parts, correctly apply the dimensions on the drawings. There have been illustrated the examples of using engineering graphics in the technological processes of manufacturing the soundproof hood “KAPONISTR” for outboard boat motors. It has been inferred that the computer visual aids are important in training the engineers by using active teaching methods.

To determine a promotion, the Graphic Rating Scale method cannot do it because it takes standard values, core factors and secondary factors that are used as standards to determine promotions. Therefore, In this employee appraisal application there is a combined method used to assist the assessment process, namely the Graphic Rating Scale method and the Profile Matching method. The Profile Matching method is used because there are standard values, core factors and secondary factors that can be used as standards to determine promotions. The results of this study are on testing the Graphic Rating Scale method with the combined method of Graphic Rating Scale and Profile Matching, the combined method of Graphic Rating Scale and Profile Matching has a higher average accuracy of 78,18%, while the Graphic Rating Scale method has an average accuracy of 68,45%.

Abstract (sommario):
The article deals with the topical issue of elementary school students’ graphic competence formation using computer-oriented teaching tools. In today’s digital world, where information is presented in various graphic formats, graphic competence is an essential skill for elementary school students. Graphic competence involves the ability to understand, create, and analyze graphics using computer technology. The main aspects of elementary school students’ graphic competence formation through the usage of computer-oriented teaching tools have been determined. Modern approaches to teaching graphic skills and their influence on the educational process are considered. The practical aspects of the implementation of computer-oriented teaching tools for improving students’ graphic competence are highlighted. It is noted that graphic training during primary school education is crucial for students’ future education, as it lays the foundations for the basics of graphic literacy. However, one of the main shortcomings in the educational process related to the study of graphic disciplines is the lack of unity in teaching methods between secondary and higher schools. It is considered that computer-based teaching tools represent a wide range of technological tools and programs designed to facilitate and facilitate learning through the usage of computers. These tools can be successfully implemented in the educational process at all levels, from primary school to higher education. They cover a wide range of technologies and methodologies, including learning software, interactive exercises, video tutorials, virtual reality, and more. It is determined that augmented reality technology opens up new opportunities for improving elementary school students’ graphic competence. It facilitates the visualization of educational material, ensures the active participation of students in learning, and promotes the graphic content creation. The usage of AR can be a significant step in improving the quality of education and developing the graphic skills of a new generation.

Abstract (sommario):
Graphic statics is undergoing a renaissance, with computerized visual representation becoming both easier and more spectacular as time passes. While methods of the past are revived, little emphasis has been placed on studying the mathematics behind these methods. Due to the considerable advances of our mathematical understanding since the birth of graphic statics, we can learn a lot by examining these old methods from a more modern viewpoint. As such, this work shows the mathematical fabric joining different aspects of graphic statics, like dualities, reciprocal diagrams, and discontinuous stress functions. This is done by introducing a new, three dimensional force diagram (containing the old two dimensional force diagram) depicting the three dimensional equilibrium of planar force systems. A corresponding three dimensional “form diagram” (dual diagram) is introduced, in which forces are treated as linear functionals (dual vectors). It is shown that the polyhedral stress function introduced by Maxwell is in fact a linear combination of these functionals; and the projective dualities connecting these three dimensional diagrams are also explained.

Abstract (sommario):
The resolution of road graphic conflicts is a key aspect of map generalization, which involves both scale reduction and the symbolization of map features. This study proposes collaborative methods of road graphic conflict resolution considering different road characteristics. These methods consider both geometric and semantic characteristics, and they incorporate the bend characteristics of roads, the road symbol size, and road semantics. Constrained Delaunay triangulation skeleton lines are used to categorize road graphic conflicts, which are made up of four independent conflict types and four group conflict types. Based on their characteristics, three collaborative methods are designed to deal with the different types of road graphic conflicts: collaboration between deletion and the snake displacement model, collaboration between the snake displacement model and collinearity, and collaboration among simplification, smoothing, and the beam displacement model. Two types of independent conflicts can be processed using only one simple operation. This study summarizes the cartographic rules for resolving road graphic conflicts, and these are used along with geometric features to drive the collaborative methods or one simple operation presented here. The experimental results indicate that the method proposed in this study can effectively resolve road graphic conflicts.
