Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The author discuss effectiveness of cartographic presentations. The article includes opinions of cartographers regarding effectiveness, readability and efficiency of a map. It reminds the principles of map graphic design in order to verify them using examples of small-scale thematic maps. The following questions have been asked: Is the map effective? Why is the map effective? How do cartographic presentation methods affect effectiveness of the cartographic message? What else can influence effectiveness of a map? Each graphic presentation should be effective, as its purpose is to complete written word, draw the recipients’ attention, make text more readable, expose the most important information. Such a significant role of graphics results in the fact that graphic presentations (maps, diagrams) require proper preparation. Users need to have a chance to understand the graphics language in order to draw correct conclusions about the presented phenomenon. Graphics should demonstrate the most important elements, some tendencies, and directions of changes. It should generalize and present a given subject from a slightly different perspective. There are numerous examples of well-edited and poorly edited small-scale thematic maps. They include maps, which are impossible to interpret correctly. They are burdened with methodological defects and they cannot fulfill their task. Cartography practice indicates that the principles related to graphic design of cartographic presentation are frequently omitted during the process of developing small-scale thematic maps used – among others – in the press and on the Internet. The purpose of such presentations is to quickly interpret them. On such maps editors’ problems with the selection of an appropriate symbol and graphic variable (fig. 1A, 9B) are visible. Sometimes they use symbols which are not sufficiently distinguishable nor demonstrative (fig. 11), it does not increase their readability. Sometime authors try too hard to reflect presented phenomenon and therefore the map becomes more difficult to interpret (fig. 4A,B). The lack of graphic sense resulting in the lack of graphic balance and aesthetics constitutes a weak point of numerous cartographic presentations (fig. 13). Effectiveness of cartographic presentations consists of knowledge and skills of the map editor, as well as the recipients’ perception capabilities and their readiness to read and interpret maps. The qualifications of the map editor should include methodological qualifications supported by the knowledge of the principles for cartographic symbol design, as well as relevant technical qualifications, which allow to properly use the tools to edit a map. Maps facilitate the understanding of texts they accompany and they present relationships between phenomenon better than texts, appealing to the senses.

Abstract (sommario):
Segment endpoint visibility graph is a representation scheme for art gallery problems, guard problems, and other shortest path or shortest circuit problems. In the research of visibility graphs, drawing graphs is a time-consuming task. VGE (Visibility Graphs Editor) is developed for visibility graphs reseacheres to create and modify graphs interactively in X-window environment. Appropriate graphics user interface allows the researcher to edit a graph, save and open a file, and make a hard copy of a graph. VGE is developed in C under X-window environment and using EZD[3] graphics tool. The thesis also discusses the uses of EZD. Although it is still only a prototype, VGE is a successful tool for analyzing visibility graphs.

Abstract (sommario):
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Determining the (classical) chromatic number of a graph (i.e. finding the smallest number of colours with which the vertices of a graph may be coloured so that no two adjacent vertices receive the same colour) is a well known combinatorial optimization problem and is widely encountered in scheduling problems. Since the late 1960s the notion of the chromatic number has been generalized in several ways by relaxing the restriction of independence of the colour classes.

Abstract (sommario):
Ordinary graphs are directed graphs that can be viewed as generalizations of symmetric block designs. They were introduced by Fossorier, Jezek, Nation and Pogel in [2] in an attempt to construct new finite projective planes. In this thesis we investigate some special cases of ordinary graphs, most prominently the case where nonadjacent vertices have no common neighbors. We determine all connected graphs of this type that exist.

Dey, Sanjoy. "Structural properties of visibility and weak visibility graphs". Virtual Press, 1997. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/1048394.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Given a finite set S of n nonintersecting line segments with no three end points collinear, the segment end point visibility graph is defined as the graph whose vertices are the end points of the line segments in S and two vertices are adjacent if the straight line segment joining two end points does not intersect any element of S, or if they are end points of the same segment. Segment end point visibility graphs have a wide variety of applications in VLSI circuit design, study of art gallery problems, and other areas of computational geometry. This thesis contains a survey of the important results that are currently known regarding the characterization of these graphs. Also a weak visibility dual of a segment end point visibility graph is defined and some structural properties of such graphs are presented. Some open problems and questions related to the characterization of weak visibility graphs are also discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Free-hand sketch, as a versatile medium of communication, can be viewed as a collection of strokes arranged in a spatial layout to convey a concept. Due to the abstract nature of the sketches, changes in stroke position may make them difficult to recognize. Recently, Graphic sketch representations are effective in representing sketches. However, existing methods overlook the significance of the spatial layout of strokes and the phenomenon of strokes being drawn in the wrong positions is common. Therefore, we developed a self-supervised task to correct stroke placement and investigate the impact of spatial layout on learning sketch representations. For this task, we propose a spatially aware method, named SketchGloc, utilizing multiple graphs for graphic sketch representations. This method utilizes grids for each stroke to describe the spatial layout with other strokes, allowing for the construction of multiple graphs. Unlike other methods that rely on a single graph, this design conveys more detailed spatial layout information and alleviates the impact of misplaced strokes. The experimental results demonstrate that our model outperforms existing methods in both our proposed task and the traditional controllable sketch synthesis task. Additionally, we found that SketchGloc can learn more robust representations under our proposed task setting. The source code is available at https://github.com/CMACH508/SketchGloc.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of the article is to determine the artistic and graphic peculiarities of the Franco-Belgian exhibition poster of the 1890s in the context of the formation of the Art Nouveau style. The research methodology of the work is based on the use of traditional art methods: historical and cultural, reconstructive and model, historical and attributive, which contributed to the revealing of artistic and graphic transformations in the field of Franco-Belgian spectacular poster. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the author’s artistic interpretation of the stylistic manner of the creators of the spectacular poster in “style floreale” as one of the leading directions of the development of the artistic style of that period. The distinctive features of this type of the artistic work are outlined on the basis of the review of the stylistic and image transformations of exhibition posters of the famous artists – J. Chéret, A. Toulouse-Lautrec, E. Grasset, A. Mucha, A. Privat-Livemont and others. Attention is focused on the identification of the presentation features of the advertised exhibition events as an important cultural events of that time. Means of artistic visualization of information are studied taking into consideration the specific nature of the poster. Conclusions. In the general cultural and historical context of that time, the poster has become a significant component of the formation of national trends in the artistic style of the day, in particular - the Franco-Belgian Art Nouveau style. The exhibition poster, reflecting the stylistic landmarks of the time, contributed to the formation of the artistic vision as a manifestation of the cultural and artistic landmarks of the studied period.

Abstract (sommario):
The problem of determining the investment priorities of the national economy development has been actuated. It has been argued that the formation of institutional preferences for activation of industry investment processes should be carried out taking into account the potential ability of each sectoral group enterprises to increase the added value. The scientific and methodical approach for sub-sectors investment attractiveness assessment has been formed on the example of the Ukrainian food industry. It has been recommended to use for this substantiated set of relative performance indexes which are duplicated in aggregate statistical state surveys based on the enterprise’s financial statements. It has been formed the recommendations for the investment priorities of food industry development in Ukraine which are based on the appropriate calculations made by the TOPSIS and CRITIC methods. Methods of economic-statistical and comparative analysis were used for structural and dynamic characteristics of the Ukraine industrial enterprises activities. Given that innovation processes should also cover small and medium-sized industrial enterprises, whose resource opportunities are mostly limited, it is proposed to expand them within the framework of a strategic partnership. Graphic modeling methods have been used to visualize the process of building the business structures resource potential on the basis of their strategic partnership. The influence of the motivational environment on the value of organizational relations within the partnership has been formalized.

Hrebeniuk, Bohdan V. Modification of the analytical gamma-algorithm for the flat layout of the graph. [б. в.], dicembre 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.31812/123456789/2882.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The planarity of graphs is one of the key sections of graph theory. Although a graph is an abstract mathematical object, most often it is graph visualization that makes it easier to study or develop in a particular area, for example, the infrastructure of a city, a company’s management or a website’s web page. In general, in the form of a graph, it is possible to depict any structures that have connections between the elements. But often such structures grow to such dimensions that it is difficult to determine whether it is possible to represent them on a plane without intersecting the bonds. There are many algorithms that solve this issue. One of these is the gamma method. The article identifies its problems and suggests methods for solving them, and also examines ways to achieve them.
