Abstract (sommario):
This paper pays close attention to the global polynomial dissipativity (GPD) for proportional delayed BAM neural networks (PDBAMNNs). The global exponential dissipativity (GED) and the global dissipativity (GD) are also talked about. Under the help of novel Lyapunov functionals and a generalized Halanay inequality, a set of dissipative criteria for such systems are led out, together with the global polynomial attracting set (GPAS) and the global attracting set (GAS). Further, the relationship among GPD, GED and GD is unveiled. Finally, a proposed theoretical condition is validated through a simulation experiment.

Abstract (sommario):
Traditional methods for detection and mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) in dairy cattle populations are usually based on daughter design (DD) or granddaughter design (GDD). Although these designs are well established and usually successful in detecting QTL, they consider sire families independently of each other, thereby ignoring relationships among other animals in the population and consequently, reducing the power of QTL detection. In this study we compared a traditional GDD with a general pedigree design (GPD) and assessed the precision and power of both methods for detecting and locating QTL in a simulated complex pedigree. QTL analyses were performed under the variance component model containing a random QTL and a random polygenic effect. The covariance matrix of the polygenic effect was a standard additive relationship matrix. The (co)variance matrix of the random QTL effect contained probabilities that QTL alleles shared by two individuals were identical by descent (IBD). In the GDD analysis, IBD probabilities were calculated using sires’ and daughters’ marker genotypes. In the GPD analysis, IBD probabilities were obtained using a deterministic approach. The estimation of QTL position and variance components was conducted using REML algorithm. Although both methods were able to locate the region of the QTL properly, the GPD method showed better precision of QTL position estimates in most cases and significantly higher power than the GDD method.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractPrimers for amplification and sequencing of partial glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd) gene were designed for lichenized fungi. The 5’ gpd primer is most probably fungal specific, since a BLAST search in GenBank found identical sequences only from ascomycetous taxa, whereas the 3’ gpd primer was more universal. Utility of the gpd primers and previously designed beta-tubulin primers was tested in nine lichen taxa. Both the gpd and beta-tubulin primer pairs amplified in most of the taxa examined: the gpd primers generated a c. 1100 nucleotide fragment, whereas the PCR product obtained from the beta-tubulin primers was c. 900 nucleotides long. The gpd amplification products of Cladonia arbuscula and C. rangiferina were sequenced and both were found to contain three introns, the length of which varied between 49 to 83 nucleotides. To examine the applicability of gpd sequences in resolving relationships within Ascomycota, trees were calculated from 22 fungal gpd sequences obtained from GenBank together with the two Cladonia sequences using parsimony jackknifing. The gpd tree was compared with the SSU rDNA tree of the respective species (or genera). A similar analysis of the beta-tubulin gene was not performed, because only a few beta-tublin sequences from the same taxa were available in GenBank. The gpd tree was well resolved but in conflict with the SSU rDNA tree. In contrast to the SSU rDNA tree, the gpd tree did not support the monophyly of the Ascomycota. Analysis of the combined data set produced a tree very similar to that of the SSU rDNA data. However, the relationship of Lecanorales to the other orders remained unresolved. Even though gpd and beta-tubulin are highly conserved proteins, the third codon positions and introns are variable and both genes have the potential for inferring phylogenetic relationships at the lower taxonomic levels in the lichenized fungi. The two genes may be useful even below species level, depending on the species investigated.

Abstract (sommario):
We showed that antimicrobial polypeptides, when translated as gene fusions to the bacteriophage lambda capsid decoration protein gpD, formed highly toxic molecules within E. coli, suggesting that they can retain their antimicrobial activity conformation when fused to gpD. These include gpD-fusions to human and porcine cathelicidins LL37 and PR39, β-defensins HBD3 and DEFB126-Δ (deleted for its many COOH-terminal glycosylation sites), and α-defensin HD5. Antimicrobial toxicity was only observed when the peptides were displayed from the COOH-terminal, and not the NH2-terminal end, of gpD. This suggests that COOH-terminal displayed polypeptides of gpD-fusions can more readily form an active-state conformation than when they are displayed from the NH2-terminal end of gpD. The high toxicity of the COOH-displayed gpD-defensins suggests either that the fused defensin peptides can be oxidized, forming three correct intramolecular disulfide bonds within the cytosol of bacterial cells, or that the versions without disulfide bonds are highly toxigenic. We showed the high efficiency of displaying single epitope 17 amino-acid fusions to gpD on LDP (lambda display particles), even when the gpD-fusion protein was toxic. The efficient formation of high display density LDP, displaying a single disease specific epitope (DSE), suggests the utility of LDP-DSE constructs for use as single epitope vaccines (SEV).

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The concept of “green product development (GPD)” has been emerged as a global phenomenon. The main objective of GPD is to minimize the impact of industrial growth on the environment across the globe. Many researchers have actively contributed articles for developing GPD, but none of them provide direction and guidance for an effective implementation of GPD in organizations. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to identify a comprehensive list of the principles, practices, tools and techniques, and integrate them to develop and propose a new framework for GPD for effective implementation in organizations. Design/methodology/approach – The present study has examined 37 frameworks published from 1991 to 2012 in selected 23 peer reviewed journals. The study has also identified pillars of the framework with the help of comparative analysis performed on the selected GPD frameworks. The study has formed a team to identify critical elements in the field of GPD. The team consisted academicians, practitioner and consultant. Findings – The findings of the present paper bring out extremely incoherent utilization of elements for implementing GPD. The study has identified 80 unique elements and 11 pillars to propose a comprehensive conceptual framework in the field of GPD with the help of comparative analysis. Also, the present study analysis of selected research articles founds that future research in GPD should be directed towards finding a coherent set of elements that may be further employed to formulate and execution of frameworks. To achieve the required task, the study has proposed a conceptual comprehensive framework in the field of GPD with the help of extensive literature survey and comparative analysis. Originality/value – The study has conducted extensive literature survey using various online portals and sources. It has not only performed critical review on existing sample of the frameworks but also raised the issue of what is really a framework and how to identify the frameworks from the literature. The study also provides guidelines to the future researchers to propose new frameworks in the field of GPD.

Abstract (sommario):
A recently designed gait phase detection (GPD) system, with the ability to detect all seven phases of gait in healthy adults, was modified for GPD in children with cerebral palsy (CP). A shank-attached gyroscope sent angular velocity to a rule-based algorithm in LabVIEW to identify the distinct characteristics of the signal. Seven typically developing children (TD) and five children with CP were asked to walk on treadmill at their self-selected speed while using this system. Using only shank angular velocity, all seven phases of gait (Loading Response, Mid-Stance, Terminal Stance, Pre-Swing, Initial Swing, Mid-Swing and Terminal Swing) were reliably detected in real time. System performance was validated against two established GPD methods: (1) force-sensing resistors (GPD-FSR) (for typically developing children) and (2) motion capture (GPD-MoCap) (for both typically developing children and children with CP). The system detected over 99% of the phases identified by GPD-FSR and GPD-MoCap. Absolute values of average gait phase onset detection deviations relative to GPD-MoCap were less than 100 ms for both TD children and children with CP. The newly designed system, with minimized sensor setup and low processing burden, is cosmetic and economical, making it a viable solution for real-time stand-alone and portable applications such as triggering functional electrical stimulation (FES) in rehabilitation systems. This paper verifies the applicability of the GPD system to identify specific gait events for triggering FES to enhance gait in children with CP.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents MCE/GPD using GPD that is known as a highly effective discriminative learning method. MCE/GPD is an excellent recognition method that is applicable especially to speech recognition, since it excels in recognizing performance and can be used to deal with variable-length vectors. MCE/GPD involves a problem of calculation resulting from c omplicated algorithms making it impractical. In this paper, we propose a learning method to increase speed at learning based on a hierarchical model. We used a hierarchical neural network to evaluate the method’s performance.

Abstract (sommario):
Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) is an intracellular enzyme specifically degrading cAMP, a second messenger exerting inhibitory effects on many inflammatory cells. To investigate whether GPD-1116 (a PDE4 inhibitor) prevents murine lungs from developing cigarette smoke-induced emphysema, the senescence-accelerated mouse (SAM) P1 strain was exposed to either fresh air or cigarette smoke for 8 wk with or without oral administration of GPD-1116. We confirmed the development of smoke-induced emphysema in SAMP1 [air vs. smoke (means ± SE); the mean linear intercepts (MLI), 52.9 ± 0.8 vs. 68.4 ± 4.2 μm, P < 0.05, and destructive index (DI), 4.5% ± 1.3% vs. 16.0% ± 0.4%, P < 0.01]. Emphysema was markedly attenuated by GPD-1116 (MLI = 57.0 ± 1.4 μm, P < 0.05; DI = 8.2% ± 0.6%, P < 0.01) compared with smoke-exposed SAMP1 without GPD-1116. Smoke-induced apoptosis of lung cells were also reduced by administration of GPD-1116. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-12 activity in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was increased by smoke exposure (air vs. smoke, 4.1 ± 1.1 vs. 40.5 ± 16.2 area/μg protein; P < 0.05), but GPD-1116 significantly decreased MMP-12 activity in smoke-exposed mice (5.3 ± 2.1 area/μg protein). However, VEGF content in lung tissues and BALF decreased after smoke exposure, and the decrease was not markedly restored by oral administration of GPD-1116. Our study suggests that GPD-1116 attenuates smoke-induced emphysema by inhibiting the increase of smoke-induced MMP-12 activity and protecting lung cells from apoptosis, but is not likely to alleviate cigarette smoke-induced decrease of VEGF in SAMP1 lungs.

Abstract (sommario):
The development of agricultural economy depends to a large extent on the drought. It is necessary to accurately analyze the current drought risk in order to formulate a more reliable drought risk management strategy and reduce the impact of disasters on the development of the agricultural economy. In order to improve the level of drought risk measurement, this paper selects VaR as the measurement tool, and proposes a mixed distribution model research. Use this model to fit the distribution of drought loss rate, and measure the drought risk by estimating VaR. Among them, the mixed distribution model is mainly composed of two parts, namely GPD and conventional distribution. The former is used to characterize the risk tail. Considering the difficulty of selecting the GPD distribution threshold, this paper introduces the Bayes calculation method to optimize, forming a Bayes hybrid model, including Norm-GDP model and Gamma-GPD model. The application results show that the fitting results generated by the Norm-GDP model application have a better distribution of drought loss rates, and the VaR estimation results are more reliable. Taking 10-year, 20-year, and 100-year disasters as examples, the estimated drought loss rate is 9.46%, 11.05%, and 30.22%. The generation of these metric values can provide a reference for my country’s agricultural drought risk management.

Abstract (sommario):
Techniques used to analyze exceedances over a high threshold are in great demand for research in economics, environmental science, and other fields. The generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) has been widely used to fit observations exceeding the tail threshold in the peaks over threshold (POT) framework. Parameter estimation and threshold selection are two critical issues for threshold-based GPD inference. In this work, we propose a new GPD-based estimation approach by combining the method of moments and likelihood moment techniques based on the least squares concept, in which the shape and scale parameters of the GPD can be simultaneously estimated. To analyze extreme data, the proposed approach estimates the parameters by minimizing the sum of squared deviations between the theoretical GPD function and its expectation. Additionally, we introduce a recently developed stopping rule to choose the suitable threshold above which the GPD asymptotically fits the exceedances. Simulation studies show that the proposed approach performs better or similar to existing approaches, in terms of bias and the mean square error, in estimating the shape parameter. In addition, the performance of three threshold selection procedures is assessed by estimating the value-at-risk (VaR) of the GPD. Finally, we illustrate the utilization of the proposed method by analyzing air pollution data. In this analysis, we also provide a detailed guide regarding threshold selection.

Abstract (sommario):
The possible renal and hepatic toxicities of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in bean cooking media were studied using 100 male albino mice. Two sublethal doses of EDTA were used to explore their toxic effects; 20 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg, which corresponded to 1/100th and 1/10th of LD50, respectively. Accordingly, the toxicity study was performed using 50 mice, divided into five groups ( n = 10/group) as follows: group 1 (Gp1) served as a negative control and was orally administered normal saline; group 2 (Gp2) was administered the bean cooking medium; group 3 (Gp3) was administered EDTA (200 mg/kg); group 4 (Gp4) was administered bean cooking medium containing 20 mg/kg of EDTA; and group 5 (Gp5) was administered bean cooking medium containing 200 mg/kg of EDTA. The results showed no significant changes in liver and kidney functions in Gp2 while Gp3, Gp4, and Gp5 exhibited significant increases in adverse liver and kidney function markers. Hematocrit values were significantly decreased in Gp3 and Gp5, while the total white blood cells counts were significantly decreased in Gp3 and significantly increased in Gp5. The number of platelets was decreased in Gp3, Gp4, and Gp5. The blood levels of sodium (Na+), iron (Fe2+), and calcium (Ca2+) were decreased in Gp3, Gp4, and Gp5 due to the chelating effects of EDTA. The hepatic and renal architectures were disorganized in Gp3, Gp4, and Gp5 with some hemorrhagic manifestations in livers and kidneys of mice. These results demonstrate that EDTA in bean cooking is harmful in mice under the conditions of this study, and the potentially harmful effects in humans supports restricting its use.

Abstract (sommario):
CONTEXT: Sentinel node (SN) biopsy has changed the surgical treatment of malignant melanoma. The literature has emphasized the importance of gamma probe detection (GPD) of the SN. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to evaluate the efficacy of patent blue dye (PBD) and GPD for SN biopsy in different lymphatic basins. DESIGN: Patients with cutaneous malignant melanoma in stages I and II were submitted to biopsy of the SN, identified by PBD and GPD, as part of a research project. SETTING: Patients were seen at Hospital São Paulo by a multidisciplinary group (Plastic Surgery Tumor Branch, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology). PATIENTS: 64 patients with localized malignant melanoma were studied. The median age was 46.5 years. The primary tumor was located in the neck, trunk or extremities. INTERVENTIONS: Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy, lymphatic mapping with PBD and intraoperative GPD was performed on all patients. The SN was examined by conventional and immunohistochemical staining. If the SN was not found or contained micrometastases, only complete lymphadenectomy was performed. MAIN MEASUREMENTS: The SN was identified by PBD if it was blue-stained, and by GPD if demonstrated activity five times greater than the adipose tissue of the neighborhood. RESULTS: Seventy lymphatic basins were explored. Lymphoscintigraphy showed ambiguous drainage in 7 patients. GPD identified the SN in 68 basins (97%) and PBD in 53 (76%). PBD and GPD identified SN in 100% of the inguinal basins. For the remaining basins both techniques were complementary. A metastatic SN was found in 10 basins. Three patients with negative SN had recurrence (median follow-up = 11 months). CONCLUSION: Although both GPD and PBD are useful and complementary, PBD alone identified the SN in 100% of the inguinal lymphatic basins.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. The accuracy of satellite radar altimetry (RA) is known to deteriorate towards the coastal regions due to several reasons, amongst which the improper account for the wet path delay (WPD) can be pointed out. The most accurate WPDs for RA are derived from the on-board microwave radiometer (MWR) radiance measurements, acquired simultaneously as the altimeter ranges. In the coastal zone, however, the signal coming from the surrounding land contaminates these measurements and the water vapour retrieval from the MWR fails. As meteorological models do not handle coastal atmospheric variability correctly yet, the altimeter measurements are rejected whenever MWR observations are absent or invalid. The need to solve this RA issue in the coastal zone, simultaneously responding to the growing demand for data in these regions, motivated the development of the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) derived Path Delay (GPD) algorithm. GPD combines WPD from several sources through objective analysis (OA) to estimate the WPD or the corresponding RA correction accounting for this effect, the wet tropospheric correction (WTC), for all along-track altimeter points for which this correction has been set as invalid or is not defined. The current GPD version (GPD Plus, GPD+) uses as data sources WPD from coastal and island GNSS stations, from satellites carrying microwave radiometers, and from valid on-board MWR measurements. GPD+ has been tuned to be applied to all, past and operational, RA missions, with or without an on-board MWR. The long-term stability of the WTC dataset is ensured by its inter-calibration with respect to the Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I) and SSM/I Sounder (SSMIS). The dataset is available for the TOPEX/Poseidon (T/P); Jason-1 and Jason-2 (NASA and CNES); Jason-3 (NASA and EUMETSAT); ERS-1, ERS-2, Envisat and CryoSat-2 (ESA); SARAL/AltiKa (ISRO and CNES); and GFO (US Navy) RA missions. The GPD+ WTC for Sentinel-3 (ESA and EUMETSAT) shall be released soon. The present paper describes the GPD+ database and its assessment through statistical analyses of sea level anomaly (SLA) datasets, calculated with GPD+, the ECMWF Reanalysis Interim (ERA-Interim) model or MWR-derived WTCs. Global results, as well as results for three regions (the North American and European coasts and the Indonesia region), are presented for ESA's recent Envisat Full Mission Reprocessing (FMR) V3.0. Global results show that the GPD+ WTC leads to a reduction in the SLA variance of 1–2 cm2 in the coastal zones, when used instead of the ERA WTC, which is one of the WTCs available in these products and can be adopted when the MWR-derived WTC is absent or invalid. The improvement of the GPD+ WTC over the ERA WTC is maximal over the tropical oceans, particularly in the Pacific Ocean, showing that the model-derived WTC is not able to capture the full variability in the WPD field yet. The statistical assessment of GPD+ for the North American coast shows a reduction in SLA variance, when compared to the use of the ERA-derived WTC, of 1.2 cm2, on average, for the whole range of distances from the coast considered (0–200 km). Similar results are obtained for the European coasts. For the Indonesia region, the use of the GPD+ WTC instead of that from ERA leads to an improvement, on average, on the order of 2.2 cm2 for distances from the coast of up to 100 km. Similar results have been obtained for the remaining missions, particularly for those from ESA. Additionally, GPD+ recovers the WTC for a significant number of along-track altimeter points with missing or invalid MWR-derived WTCs, due to land, rain and ice contamination and instrument malfunctioning, which otherwise would be rejected. Consequently, the GPD+ database has been chosen as the reference WTC in the Sea Level Climate Change Initiative (CCI) products; GPD+ has also been adopted as the reference in CryoSat-2 Level-2 Geophysical Ocean Products (GOP). Strategies to further improve the methodology, therefore enhancing the quality of the database, are also discussed. The GPD+ dataset is archived on the home page of the Satellite Altimetry Group, University of Porto, publicly available at the repository https://doi.org/10.23831/FCUP_UPORTO_GPDPlus_v1.0 (Fernandes et al., 2019).

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. For the prediction of the expected Tokai Earthquake (EQ), Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has been observing volumetric strain changes to detect its presumed pre-slip phenomena in Tokai and South Kanto regions. In 1998, an anomalous volumetric strain change, lasting for 5 days, which initially attracted much attention as a possible precursor to the Tokai EQ, was observed at Shimizu station in the Tokai area. Eventually, the Tokai EQ did not occur and the causal mechanism of the observed anomaly was unknown. However, we found variations of geoelectric potential differences (GPD) possibly associated with the anomaly by applying Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to the GPD data taken in the same area. From the polarities of the observed GPD changes, we infer that these GPD variations were caused by electrokinetic effects of groundwater motion, which might have been related with the strain changes. These results imply that the GPD observations may assist us in understanding the nature of EQ precursory phenomena.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: We report a case of granulomatous periorificial dermatitis (GPD). A 13-year-old Jamaican boy presented with pink to flesh-colored perioral and periocular papules that erupted during a summer visit to Jamaica. The child was initially diagnosed with sarcoidosis and treated with oral corticosteroids, but the eruption recurred 2 years later. He was referred to Dermatology. Biopsy of one of the facial papules revealed a dense granulomatous infiltrate with surrounding prominent lymphocytes. A diagnosis of GPD was made. Objective and Conclusion: Also known as facial Afro-Caribbean childhood eruption (FACE), GPD occurs in prepubertal children. It can be confused with sarcoidosis, infection, and granulomatous rosacea but contains lymphocytes around the granulomas and lacks the systemic involvement seen in sarcoidosis. Cultures are invariably negative. The histologic features of GPD and granulomatous rosacea can be identical, and certain treatments may exacerbate the condition, highlighting the importance of clinical correlation. The correct diagnosis is important to minimize treatment as GPD is ultimately self-limited.

Abstract (sommario):
We compute the pion Generalized Parton Distribution (GPD) in a valence dressed quarks approach. We model the Mellin moments of the GPD using Ansätze for Green functions inspired by the numerical solutions of the Dyson-Schwinger Equations (DSE) and the Bethe-Salpeter Equation (BSE). Then, the GPD is reconstructed from its Mellin moment using the Double Distribution (DD) formalism. The agreement with available experimental data is very good.

Cultured fibroblasts and lymphocytes from M. robustus females heterozygous for the X-linked Gpd gene were examined electrophoretically and cytologically. Gpd expression in lymphocytes was restricted to the maternal allele while in fibroblasts there was also partial expression of the paternal allele. The Gpd gene is thought to be located on the long arm of the X chromosome. However, in fibroblasts the long arm of the paternal X chromosome showed no indication of an early replicating segment.

Abstract Glycophorin C (GPC) and glycophorin D (GPD) are homologous sialoglycoproteins in the human red blood cell membrane. Both are thought to be encoded by the GPC gene (GYPC). We report that the rare blood group antigen, Ana, is expressed on GPD but not on GPC. cDNA was synthesized from total RNA obtained from two unrelated, heterozygous Ana+ blood donors and analyzed by the polymerase chain reaction using primers that spanned sequences encoded by the GYPC gene. The expected 412-bp fragment was generated, and sequencing of the amplified product showed a G-->T substitution at nucleotide 67 of the coding sequence, resulting in the substitution of alanine by serine at amino acid residue 23 of GPC and, presumably, residue 2 of GPD. To explain the expression of Ana on GPD but not on GPC, we postulate that the conformation of the amino acid residues at the N-terminal region of GPD determines the antigenic expression as this conformation would be different from that of the same sequence of amino acids occurring within GPC. Other possible reasons for antigen expression on a shorter protein product but not on the full-length protein product of the same gene are discussed. We extrapolate this reasoning to account for the expression of the common GE2 blood group antigen on GPD but not on GPC.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Two rat monoclonal antibodies (BRAC 1 and BRAC 11) have been produced. BRAC 1 recognizes an epitope common to the human erythrocyte membrane glycoproteins glycophorin C (GPC) and glycophorin D (GPD). BRAC 11 is specific for GPC. Fab fragments of these antibodies and BRIC 10, a murine monoclonal anti-GPC, were radioiodinated and used in quantitative binding assays to measure the number of GPC and GPD molecules on normal erythrocytes. Fab fragments of BRAC 11 and BRIC 10 gave values of 143,000 molecules GPC per red blood cell (RBC). Fab fragments of BRAC 1 gave 225,000 molecules of GPC and GPD per RBC. These results indicate that GPC and GPD together are sufficiently abundant to provide membrane attachment sites for all of the protein 4.1 in normal RBCs.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. A Point-Over-Threshold approach using a reparameterization of the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) has been used to assess changes in the daily rainfall Barcelona series (1854–2006). A Bayesian approach, considering the suitable scale and physical features of the phenomenon, has been used to look for these alterations. Two different models have been assessed: existence of abrupt changes in the new GPD parameters due to modifications of the observatory locations and trends in these GPD parameters, pointing to a climate change scenario.

Abstract (sommario):
Generalized periodic discharges (GPD) are generalized waveforms that recur with a relatively uniform morphology and duration observed in EEG recordings of many types of metabolic encephalopathy, which are often referred to as epileptiform. In this paper, we try to link these spatiotemporal electrocortical activities and significant attributes of cortex based on Liley’s mean field model, and seek possible generation mechanisms of GPD rhythms from several factors. To these ends, the dynamical properties of simulated EEG consistent with neurophysiological features of human cortex are investigated, among which GPD patterns are our focus. Firstly, with different value sets of model parameters, we reproduce some typical simulation waveforms which are analogous to mammalian normal or abnormal brain activities detected by EEG. Or in other words, we put more emphasis on brain waveforms of GPD states, normal states, and low firing rate states in our numerical simulations, and mode transitions among different firing states are our main interests. Secondly, through analysis of maximum Lyapunov exponents and frequency spectrum, we give several mode transitions by varying synaptic connections between excitatory and inhibitory populations, which support the conjecture that selective changes of synaptic connections can trigger GPD states, such as in excitatory (AMPA receptors) and inhibitory neurotransmitters (GABA receptors). Thirdly, we stress the importance of time delay on neural population connections and find that they are free to transfer among different firing modes with appropriate time delays. Furthermore, considering the effects of external inputs to cerebral cortex, we verify that stimulation can lead to good controls on GPD patterns, including facilitation and elimination. Finally, we show that more dynamical rhythms can be produced when taking into account the cortico-cortical connections. These modeling results are expected to shed light into the pathophysiological mechanisms of GPD modes from a theoretical viewpoint.

Abstract (sommario):
The ejection of a frothy fluid from the rooster cloaca was observed during the collection of semen by the conventional manual method. The production of the frothy fluid was confirmed to be related to the tumescent portion of the dorsal cloaca, i.e. glandula proctodealis dorsalis (GPD), and the GPD was considered to be homologous to the triangular fold (TF) in the corresponding region of the male turkey cloaca. Electrical cauterization of the GPD led to a complete cessation of the ejection of a frothy fluid. Key words: Frothy fluid, cloaca, rooster

Abstract (sommario):
The gaze guidance and control we propose for a nursing robot uses a gaze point detector (GPD) and linear visual servoing (LVS). The robot captures stereo camera images, presents them via a head-mounted display (HMD) to the user, calculates the user’s gaze tracked by the camera, and moves to gaze of the LVS. Since in the proposal, persons requiring nursing share the robot’s field of view via the GPD, the closer they get to the target, the more accurate control becomes. The GPD, on the user’s head, has an HMD and a CCD camera.

Abstract (sommario):
Phase measures with simultaneously recorded electroglottography (EGG) and photoglottography (PGG) signals have been studied in canine models and found to be sensitive to the effect of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) paralysis on vocal fold vibration. This study examined the usefulness of this type of measure in clinical application. The combined glottographic signals were obtained from 5 men with a diagnosis of unilateral RLN paralysis and 5 age-matched controls. In the patient group, EGG waveforms were found to have a consistent phase delay in relation to PGG. A measure of the overall glottographic phase difference (GPD) was found to significantly distinguish the control group (mean GPD = 0.2371 ms) from the patient group (mean GPD = −0.2765 ms). A validity analysis performed on 19 subjects with or without unilateral RLN paralysis confirmed that the GPD test had a relatively high efficiency (91.7%) in detecting unilateral RLN paralysis in the male population.

Abstract (sommario):
BackgroundThe Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Plant workers experienced multiple stressors as both victims and onsite workers after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent nuclear accidents. Previous studies found that disaster-related exposures, including discrimination/slurs, were associated with their mental health. Their long-term impact has yet to be investigated.MethodA total of 968 plant workers (Daiichi, n = 571; Daini, n = 397) completed self-written questionnaires 2–3 months (time 1) and 14–15 months (time 2) after the disaster (response rate 55.0%). Sociodemographics, disaster-related experiences, and peritraumatic distress were assessed at time 1. At time 1 and time 2, general psychological distress (GPD) and post-traumatic stress response (PTSR) were measured, respectively, using the K6 scale and Impact of Event Scale Revised. We examined multivariate covariates of time 2 GPD and PTSR, adjusting for autocorrelations in the hierarchical multiple regression analyses.ResultsHigher GPD at time 2 was predicted by higher GPD at time 1 (β = 0.491, p < 0.001) and discrimination/slurs experiences at time 1 (β = 0.065, p = 0.025, adjusted R2 = 0.24). Higher PTSR at time 2 was predicted with higher PTSR at time 1 (β = 0.548, p < 0.001), higher age (β = 0.085, p = 0.005), and discrimination/slurs experiences at time 1 (β = 0.079, p = 0.003, adjusted R2 = 0.36).ConclusionsHigher GPD at time 2 was predicted by higher GPD and discrimination/slurs experience at time 1. Higher PTSR at time 2 was predicted by higher PTSR, higher age, and discrimination/slurs experience at time 1.

Abstract (sommario):
PURPOSE: The importance of gamma probe detection (GPD) combined with vital dye for sentinel node (SN) biopsy is well accepted. We evaluated the efficacy of patent blue dye (PBD) in identifying inguinal SN. METHODS: Ninety-four cutaneous melanoma patients with inferior extremity lesions were submitted to SNB according to a established protocol. Patients were randomized in two groups: Blue group, where SN was identified by PPD and Probe group, where SN was identified by GPD. The median age was 44.2 years and median Breslow thickness was 2.1 mm. Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy, lymphatic mapping with PBD and intra-operative GPD was performed on all patients. Histological examination of SN consisted of hematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemical staining. If micrometastases were present complete lymphadenectomy was performed. The SN was considered as identified by PBD if it was blue and identified by GPD if it demonstrated at least ten times greater radioactivity than background. RESULTS: It was explored 94 inguinal lymphatic basins, 145 SN were excised (70 guided primarily by blue dye and 75 guided primarily by probe). All SN identified by preoperative lymphoscintigraphy were excised. In the Blue group PPD identified all SN and all of them were hot. In the Probe group all SN were identified by probe and were blue. The coincidence of PPD and GPD was 100%. CONCLUSION: Patent blue dye is enough to identify superficial inguinal SN in cutaneous melanoma.

Abstract (sommario):
The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has committed significant resources toward eliminating homelessness among veterans as part of its health care mission. The VA Grant and Per Diem (GPD) program funds non-VA, community-based organizations to provide transitional housing and support services to veterans experiencing homelessness. During a disaster, GPD grantee organizations will be especially critical in ensuring the well-being of veterans residing in their programs. Recognizing the need to ensure continued access to this residential care, the VA GPD program implemented a disaster preparedness plan requirement for its grantee organizations in 2013. This study conducted semistructured interviews with leaders of 5 GPD grantee organizations, exploring their perceptions of the preparedness requirement, the assistance they would need to achieve desired preparedness outcomes, and their motivations toward preparedness. Organizations reported being extremely motivated toward improving their disaster preparedness, albeit often for reasons other than the new preparedness requirement, such as disaster risk or partnerships with local government. Two dominant themes in organizations’ identified needs were (1) the need to make preparedness seem as “easy and doable” as possible and (2) the desire to be more thoroughly integrated with partners. These themes suggest the need to develop materials specifically tailored to facilitate preparedness within the GPD nonprofit grantees, an effort currently being led by the VA’s Veterans Emergency Management Evaluation Center (VEMEC).

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The aim of this study is to estimate the return period of maximum daily precipitation for each season of the year in different subregions of the Brazilian Amazon. For this, the extreme value theory was used, through the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution and the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD). The GEV distribution and GPD were applied in precipitation series from homogeneous regions of the Brazilian Amazon. The GEV and GPD goodness of fit were evaluated by the application of the Kolmogorov–Smirnov (KS) test, which compares the cumulative empirical distributions with theoretical ones. The KS test results indicate that the tested distributions have a good fit, particularly the GEV distribution. Thus, they are adequate to study the seasonal maximum daily precipitation. The results indicate that extremes of more intense rainfall are expected during the rainy or transition seasons of each subregion. Using the GEV distribution (GPD), a daily total of 146.1 (201.6), 143.1 (209.5), and 109.4 (152.4) mm is expected at least once a year in the south, at the Atlantic coast in the Amazon catchment, and in the northwest of the Brazilian Amazon, respectively.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Generalized Pareto distributions (GPD) are widely used for modeling excesses over high thresholds (within the framework of the POT-approach to modeling extremes). The aim of the paper is to give the review of the classical techniques for estimating GPD quantiles, and to apply these methods in finance - to estimate the Value-at-Risk (VaR) parameter, and discuss certain difficulties related to this subject.

Abstract (sommario):
Granulomatous periorificial dermatitis (GPD) is a benign, self-limiting eruption that is considered a clinical variant of periorificial dermatitis, also known as perioral dermatitis. It presents primarily in prepubertal children as monomorphic scaly papules over perioral, paranasal and periorbital areas of the face with rare occurrence in adults. We report a 36-year-old Omani male patient who presented to the Dermatology Clinic at Bahla Polyclinic, Bahla, Oman, in 2018 with a papular eruption over his face for the previous six months. Based on clinical and histopathological findings the patient was diagnosed with GPD with sarcoid-like histology. He was treated effectively with oral doxycycline and topical metronidazole. This report provides a review of the literature on GPD and summarises all reported cases in adults to date. Keywords: Perioral Dermatitis; Dermatitis; Granulomas; Case Report; Oman.

Abstract (sommario):
The use of agroindustry by-products in animal diets allows the use of residues that are not fit for human consumption. In this study, it was investigated whether fattening commercial rabbits during 30 days with a non-medicated feed, with 20% addition of grape pomace (GPD), affected production traits and the fatty acid composition, antioxidants properties, and the shelf life of the meat compared to a conventional strategy (CON). Furthermore, it was tested, by chromatographic analysis, whether this alternative diet allowed the transfer of phenolic compounds to the meat. Thirty-six weaned rabbits were allotted to the two treatments. In each treatment, 18 rabbits were fattened in three indoor cages, each housing three males and three female rabbits. No significant differences were found in live weights (p > 0.05), but the feed conversion rate and carcass weight and yield were found to be impaired in the GPD group (p ≤ 0.05). The GPD group had a higher intramuscular fat percentage (2.01 vs. 1.54), improved polyunsaturated/saturated fatty acids ratio (0.75 vs. 0.66), and better atherogenicity (0.71 vs. 0.83) and thrombogenicity (1.14 vs. 1.24) indexes, while the n-6/n-3 ratio was higher (25.4 vs. 20.3). Total volatile basic nitrogen in meat was lower in the GPD group (p = 0.01), suggesting a delayed spoilage. However, no improvements in total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, reducing power, and lipid oxidation (p > 0.05) were found in the meat. Even though the GPD pellets offered to the animals had several grape-derived phenolic compounds, and higher antioxidant properties compared to the CON diet, none of the phenolic compounds detected in feeds were detected in the meat samples.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
<p>The relative growth of different parts of the body and tissues was analysed using an allometric model. Animals were crossbred rabbits (males and females) from the mating of commercial lines HYLA-grand parental doe (HY-GPD) female with HYLA Coloured (HY-CO) or Grimaud (GR) males, both selected for the growth rate, or HY-GPD males, selected for weaning weight. They were fed on two different diet, mainly differing in their energy content, and the relative growth of the different parts of their body was assessed. The components with a nearly isometric growth pattern, which grew at the same mean rate as the rest of the body, were skin, chilled carcass and reference carcass; hind legs for retail cuts; and dorsal and carcass length for linear measurements. All allometric coefficients were calculated with respect to the slaughter weight, except percentage of hind leg inter-intramuscular fat (IIMF), which was calculated with respect to the weight of the hind leg. The components that showed early maturing were liver, kidneys, breast and rib viscera for offal and organs; head and breast and ribs for retail cuts; and bone and IIMF percentage of the hind leg. The components with late maturing were forelegs and loin for retail cuts, inguinal, scapular and perirenal fat, meat of the hind leg, and thigh and lumbar circumference length for carcass linear measurements. The GR line showed earlier growth for loin than the maternal HY-GPD line. In addition, the GR and HY-CO lines developed scapular and inguinal fat later than the HY-GPD line. For IIMF percentage, GR presented later growth than HY-CO and HY-GPD. The main effect of the diet was on liver development and on scapular fat: rabbits fed on the high-energy diet showed later liver and scapular fat growth.</p>
