Abstract (sommario):
USES AND NON-USES OF GENEALOGY IN RESEARCH IN EDUCATIONAbstract: this article aims, perspective genealogy thought by Michel Foucault as an important tool to think about the history in the world of education. The genealogy, history would suggest otherwise, from a sharp critique of metaphysics that sometimes nurture many of the headquarters of research within the history of education. These metaphysical models focus on a constant search for a last and first plea, and the search for the essence of things. This time, the "method" genealogical questions himself as a kind of counter history, pointing and circulates the hitherto unthought in the official story, and in this case, the official story about education. It is emphasized that the proposal of the genealogy is not intended to interpret the past, but to describe and establish a network of meaningful relationships that allow statements expressing its meaning and especially the mediations they produce, thus enabling the description becomes explanatory. It is observed that the genealogy poured the history of education, allows a different look on rituals in the classroom, documents and school records, assessment practices, pedagogical discourse, curriculum among many others, this article intends to discuss and rank the ways of a genealogy in education, having as main reference the theoretical construction of Michel Foucault. Keywords: Education. Abstract (sommario):
(Genealogy of Islamic law studies among Islamic universities has become dynamic and transformative. The genealogy has been transformed since the scientific networks existed in state of Islamic university. These networks eventually form two typologies of Islamic law studies which are reconstruction of mazhab and interpretative reconstruction. The genealogical process exists without formal and structural borders while using interdisciplinary approach from social science. It proves that Islamic law has exprienced a dynamic process which is indicated by new perspectives, that rooted from old approaches and develops in the frame of three principles which are diversity, change and continuity)

Abstract (sommario):
The article attempts to move beyond cursory definitions to explore the fundamental core and practice of genealogy. Some genealogical writers think that it is history or a subset of history. Others view it as a study of kinship, or relations, and identity. Though technology is increasingly used as a tool to do genealogy, it is not viewed as its essence. The article moves toward an answer to the question “what is genealogy?” through four interventions directed at these four concepts. It examines history, kinship, identity, and technology in relation to genealogy. It demonstrates key differences between history and genealogy. It discusses the use of the genealogical model in anthropology, and then relates how sociology views kinship as social. Four kinds of identity are relevant to genealogy, but none answers what genealogy is. The article argues that genealogy is a technology in the ancient Greek sense. Technē is primarily a kind of practical knowledge with characteristics congruent with genealogy’s project. Genealogy is a technē in its essence rather than history, a study of kinship, or a study of identity.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose Despite its growing popularity, there is a noticeable absence of references to the inclusion of genealogy and family history studies within the field of digital humanities. New forms of inclusiveness, particularly in production-coding and cultural analysis, closely align genealogy and family history with the core tenants practiced among humanities computing and digital humanities. This paper aims to prove that genealogy as family history should be formally recognized within this cohort, as it can serve as a valuable and innovative partner for advocacy and technological advancement of the field. Design/methodology/approach By examining the literature, genealogy will be defined according to its use in the digital humanities, as well as its use in family history studies. The core tenants of humanities computing and digital humanities will be identified and compared against the research methodology and technological tools used in genealogy and family history research. The comparison will determine how closely the fields align, and if genealogy defined as family history should be used, and included within the field of digital humanities. Findings The progression of genealogy and family history from production to cultural analysis corresponds with the transition of production and coding (influenced by humanities computing) to the inclusion of experimental cultural research adopted by the digital humanities. Genealogy’s use of technological tools, such as databases, text encoding, data-text mining, graphic information systems and DNA mapping, demonstrates the use of coding and production. Cultural analysis through demographic study, crowdsourcing and establishing cultural connections illustrates new methods of scholarship, and connects coding and cultural criticism, serving as a bridge between digital humanities and the humanities at large. As genealogy continues to create new partnerships of a collaborative nature, it can, and will, continue to contribute to new areas of study within the field. As these practices continue to converge with the digital humanities, genealogy should be recognized as a partner and member in the digital humanities cohort. Originality/value Despite its growing popularity, there is a noticeable absence of references to the inclusion of genealogy and family history studies within the field of the digital humanities. The term genealogy resonates differently within the digital humanities, primarily articulating the history of the field over the study and research of family lineage. This study seeks to demonstrate how genealogy and family history can fit within the digital humanities, providing a new perspective that has not yet been articulated in the scholarly literature.

AbstractAt the end of the BNE MSS710806 manuscript an anonymous 16th-century hand copied a brief genealogy: in this paper I claim that this text is in fact a new attestation of the Genealogía del Cid, which only survives as an appendix to the Crónica particular del Cid (Burgos, 1512). This copy of the Genealogía reveals significant variants from the Burgos 1512 edition: it sets Cid’s death in July 1099 and it awards Alphonse X the Wise with the authorship of his epitaph. These historical facts were known to Berganza in the 18th century, who recorded them in his Antigüedades without revealing his sources. In this paper, along with the edition of the text, I suggest that this copy of the Genealogía was related to the monastery of Cardeña, with which Berganza was acquainted and which reveals new insights on the text genealogy.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract: The hybrid genealogy of young women activists in Argentina: “Many dissidences and many feminisms” Feminist mobilizations have intensified in Latin America thanks to the incorporation of a significant youth contingent. These new activists bring with them transformations in social movements’ strategies and frameworks of understanding. Taking the Argentine case as the context, in this article we focus on a fundamental dimension of young women’s feminist imagination: who they consider influential movement figures. Based on a qualitative study, we reconstruct a feminist genealogy from the perspective of a new generation of activists. Their movement genealogy, according to our findings, combines figures from diverse trajectories of struggle and sites of activism, with heterogeneous positions regarding feminism. Furthermore, in this genealogy, the young women themselves play a central role.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This article explores the relationships between the critical and persuasive claims of genealogy. It begins by contesting a recent trend in scholarship that insists genealogies are meant to dismantle metaphysical ideas, not persuade concrete individuals to give up their beliefs. It argues such an interpretation conflates genealogical critique into Kantian, excises the role of the reader, and illegitimately allows genealogists to escape the question of whether the method’s efficacy is historically contingent. The second section investigates the assumptions about the historical position and normative commitments of both the genealogist and the reader that must be in place for genealogy’s critical work to become persuasive. It then questions whether those assumptions are compatible with the basic commitments of genealogy as outlined by Nietzsche and Foucault. The final section asks whether structures of authority such that genealogy as a tool still addresses the authority structures of the present moment.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe aim of this article is to clarify the relation between genealogy and history and to suggest a methodological reading of Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals. I try to determine genealogy's specific range of objects, specific mode of explication, and specific textual form. Genealogies in general can be thought of as drastic narratives of the emergence and transformations of forms of subjectivity related to power, told with the intention to induce doubt and self-reflection in exactly those readers whose (collective) history is narrated. The main interest in understanding the concept of genealogy and revisiting Nietzsche's introduction of it into philosophy lies in understanding how a certain way of writing and a certain textual practice function that successfully call into question current judgments, institutions and practices. Nietzsche's example, I argue, can provide a paradigm for a critical practice that accounts for historical processes of subject formation in terms of power and turns them against given forms of subjectivity.

Abstract (sommario):
How a merchant from Krakow became a steward in Greater Poland For many years now, genealogy has been the subject of interest for an increasing number of individuals with different social and educational backgrounds and of different ages, and at present the largest group of archive users are people who are simply passionate about their family history. The article is an attempt to demonstrate professional geologists’ methods of work and challenges they encounter, as exemplified by the search for a real person for whom an arrest warrant was issued. This person came into possession of someone else’s documents, and completely changed not only their own identity, but also the identity of their descendants. Following this person all around the three partitions of 19th century Poland is not only fascinating — it also perfectly reflects the character of a geologist’s profession, which requires versatility, an inquiring and analytical mind, as well as a flair for detective work. The article details the sources used during the search, which came from multiple ecclesiastic and state archives, emphasizing the need to confirm facts by using more than one source. It has also been noted that archival documents and indexed online databases created by genealogy fans (i.e. people from outside of the archival circles) are mutually complementary and can determine the success or failure of an investigation.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Given its apparently scholarly form, the Genealogy of Morals is often read as a succinct, relatively systematic, and canonical exposition of Nietzsche’s mature views on morality. This article argues, however, that the work was intended as a parody of a scholarly treatise and examines how this parody is best understood. It begins by surveying some evidence that supports reading the Genealogy as a ‘textbook’ presentation of Nietzsche’s views. It then develops an exegetic case for reading it as a work of parody, based on the third essay’s claims about the ‘self-cancellation’ of truth-directed discourse and how to oppose the ascetic ideal, along with the Genealogy’s internal organization and its place in Nietzsche’s oeuvre. Finally, it examines whether this parody is best interpreted philosophically as having the force of a strong parody that denies the possibility of truth-directed enquiry or that of a weak parody denying the intrinsic value of such enquiry. Although reading it as a strong parody perhaps makes it more radical and potentially appealing, I argue that the Genealogy is best read as a weak parody, because this is both more tenable and suffices for the claims Nietzsche himself makes about the work’s aims and character.

Abstract This paper demonstrates how methods of digital genealogy can be used to trace personal histories in innovative ways to uncover potentially significant details of settlement history where information in historical sources is scarce. It uses the example of a mid-18th century Roman Catholic settler and his family in Szentes, a small town on the Great Hungarian Plain, at a time when mass migration into this region was happening from overpopulated regions of the Kingdom of Hungary. Records of the settlement history of the town are meagre at best, but this important aspect of social history can be supplemented through meticulous research into the Family Search genealogy database.

Abstract (sommario):
The detection of exoplanets and accretion disks around newborn stars has spawned new ideas and models of how our Solar System formed and evolved. Meteorites as probes of geologic deep time can provide ground truth to these models. In particular, stable isotope anomalies in meteorites have recently emerged as key tracers of material flow in the early Solar System, allowing cosmochemists to establish a “planetary isotopic genealogy”. Although not complete, this concept has substantially advanced our understanding of Solar System evolution, from the collapse of the Sun’s parental molecular cloud to the accretion of the planets.

Abstract (sommario):
This article examines the diverse routes that G. I. Gurdjieff’s (c.1866– 1949) work has traversed, from the time of the very first Gurdjieff-based groups established in his lifetime in England, America and France, to the new groups that formed around the world after his death. Focus is inevitably paid to the dramatic changes made by Jeanne de Salzmann after Gurdjieff’s death, when she took the reins from Gurdjieff and restructured groups, forming a network of orthodox, hierarchical “Foundation” groups that taught Gurdjieffian principles and exercises in a formalized manner. These Foundation groups and their core practices will be examined. Not all of Gurdjieff’s followers amalgamated into this network; an assortment of Gurdjieff-based groups remain outside of it. These can be considered “independent” and “fringe” groups, and will also be considered. An indepth study of the existence and development of these Gurdjieff-centred groups has never before been attempted, and is crucial to an appreciation of the influence and relevance of Gurdjieff today. It is primarily through these groups that Gurdjieff’s work has been carried on, expanded, modified, preserved, and/or assimilated with other religio-spiritual teachings.

Abstract (sommario):
The current research work encompasses the assessment of similarity based facial features of images with erected method so as to determines the genealogical similarity. It is based on the principle of grouping the closer features, as compared to those which are away from the predefined threshold for a better ascertainment of the extracted features. The system developed is trained using deep learning-oriented architecture incorporating these closer features for a binary classification of the subjects considered into genealogic non-genealogic. The genealogic set of data is further used to calculate the percentage of similarity with erected methods. The present work considered XX datasets from XXXX source for the assessment of facial similarities. The results portrayed an accuracy of 96.3% for genealogic data, the salient among them being those of father-daughter (98.1%), father-son(98.3%), mother-daughter(96.6%), mother-son(96.1%) genealogy in case of the datasets from “kinface W-I”. Extending this work onto “kinface W-II” set of data, the results were promising with father-daughter(98.5%), father-son(96.7%), mother-daughter(93.4%) and mother-son(98.9%) genealogy. Such an approach could be further extended to larger database so as to assess the genealogical similarity with the aid of machine-learning algorithms.

The historiographical analysis shows that Babad Pasir and Babad Banyumas have two dominant elements, i.e. genealogy and narrative units. Both have genealogy covering (1) the ancestral genealogy, (2) the main genealogy, (3) the descendant genealogy, and (4) the branch genealogy, as the narrative units tend to dominantly reflect the relation of patron-client and the legitimation of the clan.

Abstract (sommario):
This article explores narratives of humanitarian compassion as rendered intelligible through the relational intersecting concerns about Syrian refugees and the suicide crisis in the Indigenous community of Attawapiskat, Ontario. Fuelled by a combination of anti-refugee rhetoric, racism and ongoing colonialism experienced by Indigenous people and communities, public and media discourse reveals how humanitarian governance is constitutive of the genealogy of settler colonialism. I suggest that examining the political genealogy of humanitarian governance in white settler colonialism assists in revealing the centrality of racial colonial violence in producing public and media discourse that is contingent upon the relational currencies of anti-refugee rhetoric, racism and humanitarian compassion. As expressions of a grammar of racial difference in liberal settler colonialism, these discourses ultimately reveal how racial colonial violence is constituted through the genealogy of humanitarianism.

Abstract (sommario):
Boccaccio's Genealogia deorum has endured for reasons quite apart from its usefulness as a reference book. Its genealogies dismember myths as narratives and do little to facilitate reference, but they enact the mingled senses of hope, frustration, and bad faith that characterize early humanist efforts. The extinction of myth both justifies and blocks Boccaccio's quest to restore the genealogy of the old gods in order to revive and legitimize the line of poets. He can safely undertake this quest only if assured of failure. Even then it may not be safe to play Aesculapius to the dismembered corpus of ancient myth. Similar paradoxes emerge from analogies with the Bible and its genealogical mode of history. Finally, the Genealogy's structure imitates the dilemma of the modern poet who, inheriting no authority for his fictions from great antique originals, must press his claim to legitimacy, make it good, perhaps make it up.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThis essay explores whether, and how, genealogy might remain critical within anti-foundationalist philosophical contexts. While adherents of genealogy often presume that genealogy simply is inherently critical in any context, adherents of historicized forms of anti-foundationalist philosophy might rightly wonder whether genealogy can continue to serve any critical purpose whatsoever. Is genealogy a form of historical inquiry that can be done away with once a shift has been made towards historicized forms of anti-foundationalist philosophy? Why continue to do genealogies once certain generalizeable insights have been learned from genealogy? This essay argues that there remains a critical role for genealogy, understood as a particular form of historical inquiry, within anti-foundationalist modes of reasoning. By exploring this critical role for genealogy, our understanding of anti-foundationalist modes of reasoning is enriched, and some clarity is gained into the philosophical foundations of genealogical critique.

Abstract (sommario):
Kata kunci:Sandur Bojonegoro, kekerasan budaya, arkeologi, genealogi pengetahuan AbstractThere are many researches on sandur, folk art in the form of dance dramas in Ledok Kulon Village, Bojonegoro District, Bojonegoro Regency, but those that talk about cultural violence and tembang sandurin the archaeological framework and genealogy of knowledge have not been found. This is because cultural violence befell the art because of the impact of unilateral stigmatization after 1965-1966 which considered it a folk art affiliated to the PKI, and during the period of strong Islamic puritanism in the 1990s, which considered sandur not in accordance with Islamic values, even though the contents tembang sandurcontradict this stigma. Therefore, this study uncovers aspects of cultural violence by tracing tembang sandurfrom the perspective of genealogy and knowledge archeology within the framework of cultural studies. The theory used is triangulation of folklore theory, archeology-genealogy of knowledge, and history. As a result, (1) the sandursongs have a Javanese poetic metre that leads to children's singing, with local Javanese language media, and keeps traces of local wisdom, ethics, and spirituality, (2) Javanese-Islamic values become the spirit of the tembang sandur. In it there is a syncretism of Javanese and Islamic values, (3) the unilateral stigmatization of SandurBojonegoro, both by anti-communists and Islamic puritans, only looks at the historical context of Indonesia in the Orde Lamawhen politics was the commander and only sees the surface without explore its constituent elements, ideology, noble teachings, and traditions that gave birth to the art of sandur. Abstract (sommario):
Why can’t librarians “Just Say No”? To answer this question, we look at workplace refusal through the fine arts, literature, and popular culture to construct a genealogy of workplace refusal. In it, we also begin to trace a lineage of crisis narrative critique alongside the library profession’s inheritance of vocational awe. We explore the librarian’s role and voice through the lens of both popular culture and academic publications. In our companion multimedia, hypertextual Scalar project also titled A Genealogy of Refusal: Walking Away from Crisis and Scarcity Narratives, we contextualize strategies of refusal in libraries through critical response to and annotations of film clips and illustrations. We examine gender differences in portrayals of workplace refusal. We laugh when in Parks and Recreation a stereotypical librarian ignores a stripper but warns noisy patrons: “Shh—This is a library!” We are horrified when aspiring librarians in Morgenstern’s Starless Sea, hands tied behind their backs, have their tongues torn from their mouths. Elinguation as a job prerequisite? No, thanks. The implications of saying “No” are many. We explicate ways librarians are made vulnerable by crisis narratives and constructed scarcity. We advocate for asset framing and developing fluencies in hearing and saying “No.” Looking forward, how long will it take librarians to reclaim “Yes” in a way that works for us?
