Liberation is a psychological attribute that primarily aims towards peace of mind followed by emancipation from fetters. Every individual covets liberation through their actions and expects a conducive milieu to experience the same. However, for oppressed people, the journey to liberation is convoluted as it involves escape from many elements. In a hierarchical society like India, liberation means liberation from the whole structure in which religious affiliation plays an important role. The marginalized section of the population seldom has the liberty to choose for their lives and they continue to remain subordinated under age-old power relations, which are garbed in the names of destiny and ordinance. For them, liberation is a quest to make an identity and reinstate the value of self-worth. Christianity, with the Church as its mission partner, seeks to liberate these caged souls from their precarious standings. This study will try to show how the Canadian Baptist Mission, with a primary objective to evangelize, left a trail of aspiration among the tribal Savaras of Ganjam to undertake the pursuit of liberation and fight oppression on their own.

Abstract The Old Aramaic inscription Sefire I (KAI 222) includes, in a series of mimetic curses, a debated clause that has been read by most previous scholars to involve a mysterious {gnbʾ} gannābaʾ(?) ‘thief’, which (or who?) is symbolically burned (Sefire IA:36–37). The present article argues that there are lexicographic (cognates in later Aramaic dialects) and phonological (geminate prenasalization) grounds for understanding {gnbʾ} to encode instead ganbaʾ (< *gabbaʾ) ‘straw’. The burning of this straw to symbolize consequences should a treaty partner renege has clear parallels in Mesopotamian and Syro-Anatolian magical and ritual language, including treaty curses, and produces a more typical image in a list of mimetic curses involving materials (wax), objects (a bow and arrow), and animals (a calf).

This chapter firstly examines how cash cropping heightened gender and generational tensions within colonial Buganda. As female labour increased in value, so did bridewealth demands. As in much of Africa, high divorce rates and delayed marriage were the most obvious results. But the unusual openness of mid-colonial Ganda society facilitated the development of a distinctive sexual culture. Opportunities for women to set themselves up as independent householders arose from Buganda's freehold land tenure, its largely unregulated urban centres, and legal protections for widows. During the middle decades of the twentieth century, meanwhile, new forms of socializing provided Ganda of all ages with opportunities to acquire new sexual partners, increasingly across generations, fostered a growing tolerance of non-marital sex, and facilitated ever wider urban-rural sexual networks. The sexuality of the young changed fastest, due to schooling, parental employment, a new culture of adolescence, and resentment at excessive bridewealth demands.

Resumen: El concurso para la Sede del Palacio de Naciones en Ginebra, realizado en 1927, significa para Le Corbusier un momento crucial en su trabajo, entre otras cosas por la repercusión mediática que suscita, ayudando a proyectar su imagen a nivel internacional. La compleja propuesta del palacio sintetiza y aplica algunas de las principales preocupaciones de Le Corbusier, al tiempo que abre nuevos frentes de investigación para futuros proyectos. Un importante trabajo de dibujo acompaña el reto arquitectónico. La rica información proyectual, contenida en esos dibujos, documenta tanto los grandes planteamientos paisajísticos y de funcionamiento, como sutiles detalles constructivos. Los dibujos, en sus aspectos formales y técnicos, forman parte de una serie de pruebas en los sistemas de representación que Le Corbusier hace en estos años. Si bien la exploración en las técnicas gráficas pone en riesgo la posibilidad de ganar el concurso, le brinda la oportunidad de reutilizar los documentos para alimentar nuevas aventuras editoriales: “Une maison, un palais”, “Vers une architecture” y “Œuvre Complète”. El estudio de los dibujos ahonda en sus procedimientos de trabajo, tanto para la investigación en el proyecto arquitectónico como para su difusión en medios masivos. A la vez, reafirma una visión innovadora propia de su labor como agitador y divulgador de la arquitectura moderna. Abstract: The 1927 “Palace of the league of Nations in Geneva” contest meant a crucial moment for Le Corbusier in his work, amongst other things due to the subsequent raising media repercussion, helping him scheme his image to an international level. The complex palace proposal synthetizes and applies some of Le Corbusier’s main preoccupations, and opens at the same time new research fronts for future projects. An important drawing work ushers the architecture challenge. The rich design information, contained in those drawings, documents both the landscaping and the functioning proposal, as subtle constructive details. The drawings, in the formal and technical aspects, shape part of a series of proof on Le Corbusier’s representation system for these years. Although the exploration on graphic techniques risks the possibility of him winning the contest, it also gives him the opportunity to reutilize such documents for new editorial adventures such as: “Une maison, un palais”, “Vers une architecture” and “Œuvre Complète”. The study of the drawings deepens the work procedure, as well as the research he went through for an architecture project when is meant to be published in massive media. At the same time, it reasserts an innovation perspective unique of his work as an agitator and divulging person of modern architecture.
