Testo completoIn the middle of the 19th century, the building of a house in the hamlet of “Le Larry” in Toulon-sur-Allier (Allier, 03) is the opportunity for a local scholar to make a great discovery: an Ancient workshop of ceramic production. Excavated a first time when discovered, and once again between 1957 and 1980, the site reveals a great amount of remains. Those are the reason of this thesis. Indeed, despite the renowned name of the production site, the place and its productions remain deeply unknown from the researchers. The material discovered during the several diggings has been carefully gathered and an inventory was created. Over 140.000 remains have been counted, including around 120.000 sherds made by the potters from Toulon. Sherds are classified in six different categories: painted ceramics, black slipper ware, terra sigillata ware, coarse ware, Pompeian red ware and terracotta figurines. Those ceramics made in Toulon show an expertise from those craftsmen who lived in the 2nd – 3rd centuries A.C. The typology and stylistic classification of the objects reveal the narrow relations existing with others contemporaneous production factories such as Lezoux (Puy-de-Dôme, 63) or Gueugnon (Saône-et-Loire,71). It reveals also that Toulon’s production had its very own identity. The potters seems they have export in the north of France, in England, in Belgium and Germany. Those four years of doctoral reasearch allowed to put a new light on the site of Toulon-sur-Allier and its productions. Those results are a new proof that thesis subjects regarding materials from old diggings have a great potential despite the complexity of the task.Toulon-sur-Allier is a site that has not yet revealed all its secrets

Testo completoThe growing development of urbanism and anthropogenic activities is source of increasing environmental pressure on marine coastal area and especially the Mediterranean Sea. Both human activities and climate change deeply impact marine ecosystems and particularly planktonic systems, which were sensitive to environmental change. However, the combined effect of these two processes on coastal systems functioning and structure over time remains poorly understood. Therefore, planktonic time series provide powerful tools for investigating the impacts of these perturbations. The PROTEE-EBMA laboratory planktonic time series from Toulon (France) are among the oldest from the Mediterranean Sea and provide records of effects for both natural and anthropogenic pressures on planktonic communities. In the context of global change, the present work aim to determine the role of these factors on dynamic and composition of phyto- and zooplankton in NW Mediterranean (Toulon, France). The first part focused on the role of vertical mixing in the Ligurian Sea as inter annual variation driver of the spring plankton bloom in Toulon Bay. The results revealed significant shifts in precipitation regime associated with salinity change into the Large Bay (Toulon) over the period 2005-2013. Same changes were observed into 2 Ligurian basin sites (”SOFCOM” and “Point B”). According to previous hypothesis, spring blooms of phytoplankton conditioned by dry autumns and winters were on average more intense than those from wet conditions. However, differences among sites highlighted importance of local drivers affecting phytoplanktonic dynamics. The second part aimed to investigate impact of precipitation and salinity changes on plankton composition. Results showed a dramatic change in phytoplankton community composition triggering by increasing precipitations and consequently lower salinity and subsequently leading to zooplankton community shifts. In addition, these results suggested that precipitation involved in two specific processes, affecting in a different manner the plankton communities: firstly, low precipitation could contribute on the triggering of winter mixing and thus in surface water fertilization of the Ligurian Basin impacting the Toulon Bays. On the other hand, phytoplankton community shifts also suggested a developing eutrophication processes in Toulon Bay during important precipitation periods driven by increasing local river inputs. In the third part, impact of anthropogenic pressure on both phyto- and zooplankton communities was investigated based on monitoring of two neighboring coastal systems characterized by distinct levels of human activities. Zooplankton communities showed higher sensibility to anthropogenic activities than phytoplankton communities. Finally, indicators of anthropogenic pressure based on copepod families were proposed

Testo completoSince the second half of the nineteenth century, many Italians immigrated into the Var department, geographically very close to the Italian peninsula. Yet the Var area hasn’t attracted the same interest of its neighbors, the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Alpes-Maritimes, among historians. This observation led us to study the transalpine immigration into the Var. Mostly developed from first-hand sources that did a lot of researching in the French Local Historical Archives, this thesis characterizes the Italian presence in the Var, both from a demographic, socio economic and memorial point of view. In other words, it reveals the extent of the Italian exodus into the Var department, the profile of immigrants and their geographical distribution in the area. This work also shows the impact that the massive arrival of transalpine immigrants had on the Var economy and defines the sectors in which they were employed. Finally, it treats the cultural aspects with help from the memories of the Italian descendants settled in the Var who were able to tell the story of their ancestors. The study will also look into the emigrational path taken by the transalpine Var immigrants individually without going into all the usual clichés, concerning the uprooting, adaptation, discrimination, or lastly the transmission of Italian origins. This study has used a positive and constructive approach ; it has taken into account a lot of different sources which manages to tell the Italian immigration in the most realistic way
