The objectives of the study are to describe the foreign language and the pattern appear on the business banner toponymy. The method used is qualitative research. The data source are from the words and phrases on business banner toponymy in Medan. The data collection and data analysis used by three steps namely: 1) data codensation, 2) data display, and 3) drawing conclusion. The result of the study are the foreign languages found are in Korean, English, Chinese, Italian, French, personal name in Hindi, Spain and Japanese. Then the pattern found in the toponymy of business banner in Medan are the words and phrases in English in English pattern, Indonesian and English phrases in English pattern, Indonesian and English phrases in Indonesian pattern, English and French in Indonesian phrases pattern, English and Indonesian phrases in Indonesian pattern, English and English phrases in Indonesian pattern, French and English phrases in English pattern, Hindi and English in English pattern and English and Indonesian in English Pattern. The conclusion is that the language use on business banner toponymy almost all are the mixing of English and the other language and the patterns of the phrases are English and Indonesian.

The aim of this article is to redefine the phenomenon of borrowing on the basis of the Corpus of Spoken Lithuanian: to analyse the frequency and use of foreign words, to determine the proportion of new borrowings among foreign words, and to examine whether some of the foreign words may be treated as the instances of code switching or code mixing. The article attempts to make a distinction between new borrowings and other foreign words and discusses the phenomenon of code mixing in spoken language for the first time in Lithuanian; it also explains the terms of code switching and code mixing, which have not been discussed in Lithuanian linguistics. The results of the quantitative research have revealed that foreign words comprise only 0.33% of all words in spoken language. The largest proportion of these words is English words and phrases (93%), while lexemes or phrases from Russian, Latin, or Italian comprise only 7% of the words. The research has determined that new borrowings constitute 44% of all foreign words in the conversations under the present investigation, and code mixing has been employed in 56% of all instances. The research has demonstrated that code mixing is the most typical of spoken private speech, while the use of new borrowings is more frequent in more formal registers of spoken language, i.e. academic and media language.

The research aimed to describe the forms of linguistic creativity of BIPA students at the morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques. The research data were 78 sentences written by BIPA students at Bina Nusantara University academic year 2020/2021. The results show that BIPA students’ sentences have linguistic creativity in the form of the morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels sentences. At the morphological level, the process of linguistic creativity in words is carried out by (1) inserting foreign terms into sentences, (2) using non-standard words, and (3) abbreviating words. While in phrases, linguistic creativity is done by (1) reversing the structure of the phrase, (2) forming nominal phrases with less common word pairs, and (3) forming nominal phrases by incorporating elements of student culture. At the syntactic level, linguistic creativity is carried out in the form of compiling compound sentences with the expansion of descriptions, expansion of objects, expansion of subjects, and expansion of predicates. At the semantic level, linguistic creativity is manifested in the form of the figure of speech: personification, simile, hyperbole, repetition, and metaphor.

Nowadays, language life is very prosperous, and a large number of new online words and phrases continue to emerge. These new words are an important way for international students to understand Chinese culture and improve their Chinese communication skills. The Chinese listening and speaking class integrates listening and speaking training, and is an important course type for cultivating the oral communication skills of international students in Chinese. Therefore, in teaching Chinese listening and speaking as a foreign language, we must pay attention to the use of new words and phrases on the internet.On the basis of previous research on teaching new words and phrases on the internet, this article investigates and analyzes the acquisition of new words and phrases by advanced stage international students, starting from the characteristics of new words and phrases on the internet. Through analysis, this article finds that there are some problems in the teaching of online new words and phrases. Therefore, teaching suggestions are proposed from three aspects: setting teaching objectives, selecting teaching content, and exploring teaching methods, in order to provide a certain teaching reference for the teaching of online new words and phrases in advanced listening and speaking classes.

Abstract This research was carried out with two main purposes: to survey the methods necessary to translate Chinese words and phrases into English, and to investigate how frequently their English versions appear in twenty different countries or regions. The research was conducted through an analysis of data from Xi Jinping’s book The Governance of China (English version), published by Foreign Languages Press. The results show that 401 Chinese words and phrases reflect seven specific translation methods. Moreover, their frequency of usage shows obvious differences across twenty different countries or regions based on the statistical analysis of the corpora. It is hoped that the Chinese-English (C-E) translation of political texts can benefit from these conclusions.

Difficulties in material clauses are any deformities of grammatical tense marker in English into lexical time markers in Indonesian . The existence of multiple forms of predicates in the English language into a form of predicate in Indonesian can actually facilitate foreign learners in learning Indonesian clause for foreign learners do not need to be bothered with the selection predicate forms that must be used . Learning difficulties at the level of sentences for foreign speakers closely associated with a lack of understanding of the concept of morphological. The aim of this paper is to present the multitude of foreign words and phrases in reportages published in the Anoda i katoda [Anode and Cathode] collection by Melchior Wańkowicz and to answer the following questions: Does the author mark foreign words in his text? Have they been adapted to the Polish language? Where did this abundance of borrowings come from? When the lexemes or phrases were kept in their original form, it was established whether the writer marked them in the text, and if so, how it was achieved. In the group of words highlighted in the text by the writer, the majority are written in italics. The writer did not use any special distinction towards many words in a foreign form. In those cases when words of foreign origin were adapted to the Polish language system, the methods of this adaptation were indicated. The two largest collections of foreign vocabulary in the examined material originate from Latin and French. Some foreign lexemes were adapted to Polish, becoming the basis for new words in the Polish language by declination and replacement of vowels and/or consonants with their Polish equivalents. The diversity of the borrowings applied is the effect of the writer’s background in the multi-cultural Borderlands, his thorough education and his numerous journeys and long time spent abroad.

Machine Translation (MT) refers to automatically trying to translate words, phrases, text, or speech from one language to another (Arnold et al., 1994). This study aims to analyze English as Foreign Language (EFL) students’ perceptions on utilizing machine translation (MT) in translating words, phrases, text, or speech. This research used descriptive qualitative method, 13 EFL students as respondents using this type of technology were described and analyzed. Data were gained from the analysis of the translation quality supported by machine translation procedures and questionnaires to 13 English students in translation subject. The results showed that, EFL students in the sixth and seventh semester of English education department of Megarezky University in translating words, phrases, texts, paragraphs had to recheck and rearrange to get a good translation by their own understandings. Machine Translation (MT) becomes another option to recognize the meaning of foreign language. Machine Translation can be used as dictionary as well. MT is incredibly useful and helpful, it can provide a general description to the users, it gives an inspiration or consideration to the users to understand the meaning.

данная статья посвящена проблеме формирования словосочетаний, выявлению алгоритма их построения и адекватного употребления в речи иностранных учащихся на основе метода классификации и трансформаций в рамках функционально-коммуникативной лингводидактической модели языка. В представленной статье анализируются словосочетания со стержневым словом «зона», рассматривается формирующая их лексика и трансформационные возможности. Словосочетание как традиционный объект традиционного синтаксиса определяется как синтаксическая конструкция, образуемая соединением двух или более знаменательных слов на основе подчинительной грамматической связи – согласование, управление, примыкание. В традиционной лингвистике словосочетание обычно рассматривается как единица, извлеченная из текста, как предмет для анализа, но нет конкретных алгоритмов построения конкретных словосочетаний. В соответствии с концепцией, в рамках которой мы работаем, словосочетания строятся из имен участников ситуации и их набор задан ситуацией, описанной в предложении. Возникают эти словосочетания при продуцировании предложения для решения тех или иных коммуникативных задач, причем имена одних и тех же участников могут дать разные словосочетания. Очевидно, что существуют определенные правила построения словосочетаний, которые и определили наш интерес к закономерностям сочетаемости некоторых слов с распространяющими их словоформами. Анализ словосочетаний со стержневым словом «зона» привел к определенной структуре рассмотрения словосочетаний такого рода: сначала следует упорядочить средства формального выражения распространителей исследуемых слов, далее проследить реализацию этих средств в рамках простого и сложного словосочетаний, и изучить функционирование словосочетаний в тексте. this article is devoted to the problem of the formation of phrases, the identification of an algorithm for their construction and adequate use in the speech of foreign students based on the method of classification and transformations within the framework of the functional and communicative linguodidactic model of language. The article analyzes the phrases with the core word "zone", examines the vocabulary that forms them and transformational possibilities. A phrase as a traditional object of traditional syntax is defined as a syntactic construction formed by the combination of two or more significant words on the basis of a subordinate grammatical connection – coordination, control, adjunction. In traditional linguistics, a phrase is usually considered as a unit extracted from a text, as a subject for analysis, but there are no specific algorithms for constructing specific phrases. In accordance with the concept within which we work, phrases are constructed from the names of the participants in the situation and their set is given by the situation described in the sentence. These phrases arise when producing sentences to solve certain communicative tasks, and the names of the same participants can give different phrases. Obviously, there are certain rules for the construction of phrases, which determined our interest in the patterns of compatibility of some words with their word forms. The analysis of phrases with the core word "zone" led to a certain structure of consideration of phrases of this kind: first, it is necessary to streamline the means of formal expression of the distributors of the studied words, then trace the implementation of these means within the framework of simple and complex phrases, and study the functioning of phrases in the text.

The paper discusses the use of words of foreign origin in Slovenian political discourse. At the outset, this usage is broken down into four groups: the first contains specific phrases and terminology inherent to the political domain; the second contains words of foreign origin generally present in the Slovene language (because of their high frequency of nonexclusivistic use, these words are not of interest to the scope of this investigation); the third contains various words of foreign origin used as affectional packaging for messages with the aim of stimulating the desired interpretation (framing reality); the fourth group, which is the most interesting for our research, is made up of words of foreign origin which could have a marker: + marked, + not necessary, + unwanted, but only if we accept the logic of purism. All the words in this group could be replaced - without any loss of meaning - with their Slovene equivalents. The speakerʼs motivation for using the foreign word is crucial to our discussion. In the framework of Pierre Bourdieuʼs poststructural theory as well as Austinʼs and Searleʼs speech act theory, statistical data is analysed to observe how usage frequency varies in correlation with selected factors which manifest the speakerʼs habitus. We argue that words of foreign origin represent symbolic cultural capital, a kind of added value which functions as credit and as such is an important form of the accumulation of capital.

This paper aims to examine how foreign and domestic translators solve problems encountered in literary translation of realia, words or phrases which denote something that is specifically unique and local, that have no equivalents in other languages. For this purpose, Russian and English translation of nine short stories, out of many of works by D.Natsagdorj, one of the founders of Mongolia’s contemporary literature, have been selected. By comparing the English, Russian translation of these stories, we examined the types of transformation used in translation of realia, accuracy of translation, distinction among translations by foreign and domestic authors. Main accentuation has been given to identifying more typical strategy of translating Mongolian realia into the above-mentioned languages. Accordingly, the study revealed that transcription, transliteration, description and substitution are the most frequent tools used to render the words and phrases denoting realia.

The aim the research was to describe the acquisition of words and the use of various conversational languages used by international students either in a classroom or in extra-curricular activities outside the classroom. Conversations and introductions to Indonesian culinary food were the hallmarks of teaching Indonesian to foreigners at Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret, Solo. The rich traditions of Indonesian society were very attractive to foreign people. The Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA) learners arrived from different countries, such as Nigeria, Afghanistan, Palestine, Uzbekistan, and several other students from Arab nations. The research applied a qualitative descriptive research using case study method. Data were obtained from the observation of participants and nonparticipants, both activities inside and outside the classroom. The research reveals that the use of basic words, formed words, abbreviated words, and words or phrases of various slang is found. In various conversations, many words and phrases with a foreign language structure and the use of non-standard languages that do not correspond to the correct rules of Indonesian grammar are used. They have a tendency to use their mother tongue's pronunciation when expressing difficult words. Language acquisition at this stage can be an initial strategy for BIPA learners to be able to fight and survive in a native-speaking society.

The technological advances are occurring at a rapid pace in the 21st century which is called the age of information technology. Regarding these advancements, many new foreign words are entering Mongolian language constantly. Especially since 1990, the challenge has been how to translate new words, phrases and terms into Mongolian accurately from English, the main international academic language. In terms of lexical equivalence, it can be complete and partial. The issue is partial equivalence outnumbers absolute equivalence in any language depending on the cultural differences of speakers of a source language. In order to translate those non-equivalent vocabulary items, the main translation techniques such as transliteration, transcription, calque or loan translation, substitution and description are used individually and collectively. In the past, we used to spell and translate any foreign word from Russian into Mongolian as they were spelt in Russian irrespective of its pronunciation. But in the last 30 years we have been translating non-equivalent vocabulary from English into Mongolian by the main techniques mentioned above. Therefore, in the future, there is a necessity of choosing and using the best translated version of a foreign word, phrase and terms after the translation of each and every foreign word is being checked carefully. The diversity of language use in a heterogeneous society gives rise to language variations, including registers. The Aquascape Lovers Community in Rokan Hulu uses a separate register. This study aims to describe the form, function, and meaning of the limited and open circle register in the Aquascape Lovers Community in Rokan Hulu. This research is quantitative research with a descriptive method. Listening and recording methods were used in data collection. The informant is a Community of Aquascape Lovers in Rokan Hulu. The data were analyzed qualitatively by referring to the concept of form, function, and meaning of closed registers and closed registers proposed by Halliday. The results of the study are as follows. First, the limited circle register of the Aquascape Lovers Community in Rokan Hulu at the level of words and phrases in the form of abbreviations and the use of foreign words such as WC, kebo, and sticky rice with interactional and personal functions. Each word and phrase has a specific meaning. Second, the open circle register of the aquascape lover community in Rokan Hulu at the word and phrase-level in the form of abbreviations and the use of foreign words such as PH, lily pipe, and surface scum with interactional, heuristic, and regulatory functions. Each word and phrase has a specific meaning. It can be concluded that some of the registers used by this community can only be understood by community members and some can also be understood by people outside the community.

The purpose of this study was to identify the form of euphemism, the function of euphemism, and the meaning of euphemism. The method used is descriptive qualitative research. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, sentences, or euphemistic expressions contained in the May 2021 edition of the electronic news Tribunjabar.id. In this study, there are 49 euphemistic data from the May 2021 edition of Tribunjabar.id as data from May 1 to May 31, 2021. The results of this study prove that there is the use of euphemisms in the Tribunjabar electronic news. en May 2021 issue, such as the use of words, phrases, meanings, and functions of euphemisms. (1) The euphemism of the use of words has 5 forms of data in the form of words and the euphemism of the use of words with affixes has 4 forms of data. (2) The euphemism of the use of the phrase has 4 forms. (3) The euphemism of the use of abbreviations in this section is clear and abbreviations are divided into two parts, namely initials and acronyms. The euphemism for the use of abbreviations contains 12 data, including 5 data in the form of initials. There are 7 data forms of acromine expression. (4) The euphemism of the use of loanwords contains 10 forms of data. (5) Euphemisms for the use of foreign terms in 6 forms of data. (6) Euphemisms using metaphors in 4 forms of data. (7) The euphemism of the use of 4 forms of data.

The purpose of this study is to describe elitist language on the Humor Recehku Instagram account, namely (1) non-standard word forms; (2) abbreviated forms that cause non-standard; and (3) word forms from foreign languages. The method used in this research is the descriptive method. The data collection technique was done by observing and taking notes. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman qualitative analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions and levers. This research leads to the content analysis “content analysis”. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, and sentences that experience language shifts in an elitist form. The results of this study indicate that there is a language shift in the case of using elitist language in the Humor Recehku Instagram account. First, non-standard word forms include non-standard words without a play (emang, gini, telfon, sampe, ngerasa dan sebagainya); non-standard words with a pun (Oktrouble dan gw); and non-standard words weakening phonemes (males, denger, bener-bener, ye, cakep, anjeng, kecapean, dan temen). Second, abbreviations that cause non-standard abbreviated standard words (sm, org, krn, dan trs); and abbreviated non-standard words (not and yesterday2). Third, foreign language words are divided into (typing, excuse, mood and so on); phrase (self-reminder, close friend IG); and sentences (is the best kind of sleep, oh well honey, you keep your small circle, and friend with many but trust any).

The article is devoted to the names of music stars in Russian youth slang. The number of English borrowings, which appear in the Russian youth’s language, is growing rapidly. Russian youngsters are open for western music. The paper presents the processes of implementation of English names into Russian slang. The studied material shows how English words are transformed to adjust to Russian phonetics. The author of this paper proves that young people do not copy foreign words and phrases, but treat them as a basis for further modifications. They play with foreign words in order to adjust them to Russian phonetics and add humour which is a characteristic feature of youth slang.

The phenomenon of the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many problems, starting from the health, economic, and socio-cultural field. However, in the field of language, the outbreak of Covid-19 has actually increased the productivity of the new Indonesian vocabulary. The rapid and massive development of Covid-19 to many countries has made the public and the government panic. Covid-19 has become the central topic of mass media coverage and various new terms/vocabularies are widely used. This study aims to describe the productivity of Indonesian’s new vocabulary during the Covid-19 pandemic, its category classification, frequency of use, and the factors that cause its emergence. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection was done by observation method with note-taking technique. Data analysis used the intralingual equivalent method. The results showed that the productivity of new vocabulary during the Covid-19 pandemic was in the form of basic words, affixed words, abbreviations/acronyms, compound words, and phrases. Based on the category, the new vocabulary is in the form of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns. Based on the frequency of use, the most consecutive are nominal phrases, verbal phrases, and adjective phrases. The factors causing the emergence of Indonesian’s new vocabulary were extraordinary events related to the outbreak of Covid-19, the influence of foreign languages, and community creativity.

Представлена типология фреймов (фраз, коллокаций) применительно к курсам иностранного (английского) языка для инженерных профилей. Доказывается важность использования многокомпонентных единиц для моделирования речи. Описан процесс формирования фразовой готовности, даны теоретические и практические рекомендации по организации обучения иностранному языку с целью совершенствования коммуникативной компетенции. Показаны перспективы запуска многокомпонентного категориально-комбинаторного мультимедийного словарного приложения. The concepts of “phrase” and “collocation readiness” are defi ned from the standpoint of a number of humanities, including frameology and artifi cial intelligence. A typology of frames (phrases, collocations) is presented in relation to foreign (English) language courses for engineering profi les. The importance of using multicomponent units for speech modeling is proved. The process of formation of phrasal readiness is described, theoretical and practical recommendations are given on the organization of teaching a foreign language in order to improve communicative competence. The prospects for launching a multicomponent categorical-combinatorial multimedia dictionary application are shown.

This study describes English borrowing or loan words during COVID-19 pandemic frequently used by public and absorped by Indonesian. Some words mostly from medical and healthcare terms, but many of them are from daily, practical, social life terms. People don’t realize that they use many unfamiliar words and phrases when they communicate in Indonesian. Those words are English borrowings. The aims of the study are ; (1) to investigate some English borrowing words or phrases, (2) to describe the borrowing process from English into Indonesian. The Qualitative Decriptive Analysis Method used in analysing English borrowings . Obtains 95 English words taken then classified into the process of borrowings. 56 words from 95 words or 58,95 % already available in Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), 39 words or 41,05% is not listed in KBBI or signed with n.a or not available. In the borrowing process obtains 34 words or 35,7% as adoption , 45 words or 47,3% as adaptation , 14 words or 14,7 % as translation, and the rest is 2 words or 2,1 % as creation process. The result shows that English borrowings absorped by Indonesian through both adoption and adaptation are quite significant, total both is 83%. It means that Indonesian is quite open language to foreign languages. This fact also shows that Indonesian is a dynamic, up to date, and modern language.

Abstract : The main objectives of this study are to identify the symbols which are contextually attached to certain words and phrases; to analyze the contextual meaning of the symbols; and to describe the pedagogical implications of the uses of those symbols to the practices of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). These all are conducted by following Pierce’s triadic theory. The sources of the data of this study are some carefully selected short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. Descriptive qualitative method is used to collect the data which are then analysed and presented explanatorily. The results of the analysis of the data suggest that there are six symbols which are contextually attached to words and phrases in The Masque of Red Death, three symbols in The Pit and Pendulum, and three symbols in The Black Cat. Those symbols carry important pedagogical implications to the teaching of English as a foreign language. This implies that teachers of English may use these short stories and their symbols to teach English vocabulary in reading section by using flashcard, and by which they can conclude the learning section by presenting the moral values in the short stories.Keywords : Symbols, Semiotic

This study aims to describe the forms of retention of the Javanese language in the Tegal dialect in the cerkak of Tegalan Warung Poci by Dr. Maufur. This research produces forms of retention of Javanese Tegal dialect, namely forms of active language retention and forms of passive language retention by recording it on a data card. Forms of active language retention in the form of the use of words with Tegal dialect that are rarely used in daily life include: basic word forms, forms of affixed words, forms of reduplication, forms of reduplication with implications, and forms of clay saroja. The passive language retention form shows the use of foreign language elements in fragments of Tegal dialect which includes the use of basic words, affixed words, phrases, reduplication, affixed reduplication, and translation of foreign language words (Indonesian and English) into the Tegal dialect that refers to language error or interference. The translation shows that the Tegal dialect is dynamic because it raises elements of the foreign language in the sentence fragment with the aim of creating communicative sentences and giving a different color to the use of the Tegal dialect.Keyword: language maintenance; Tegal dialect; Warung Poci

This article describes the translation into Chinese of phraseological units in «The book of words», which are the treasury of moral, philosophical, socio-political and intellectual-satirical thoughts of the greatest figure of Kazakh enlighteners, a brilliant poet and thinker, AbayKunanbaev. There are many mistakes when translating phraseological units in Abay's words of wisdom into foreign languages. There are several types. Firstly, when the translator perceives phraseological units as a lexical unit in the literal sense, and not as stable phrases, and translates them literally. Secondly, he is faced with the problem of selecting an equivalent in the target language. Thirdly, linguistic units used in a figurative sense are perceived as phraseological and are translated as so. In such cases, it we cannot say that the translation correctly conveys the content, meaning and artistic features of the original. The basic requirement is that the translator should strive to translate the phraseological units of the original text using the phraseological units of the target language.

The article considers the structure and semantics of terminological phrases with the core component “Geld” in German economic terminology. The following tasks were done: to analyze the approaches to the definition of terminological phrases, carry out the thematic classification of studied units, and identify the main terminological structural models. New terminological compounds were recorded and analyzed. The cases of coining of new meanings by already established, codified terminological phrases were investigated. The study's relevance is due to the rapid development of economic terminology. This is manifested by the addition of new units, the processes in the everyday vocabulary. The terminological vocabulary of economics requires a sufficient level of knowledge and skillful application. The study of structural and semantic features of terminological phrases contributes to a better understanding of functioning of technical language patterns. Moreover, the terminology is a broad layer of vocabulary that closely interacts and intertwines with other lexical items. Therefore, one of the most critical tasks of modern linguistics is studying the formation patterns of terminological vocabulary, structure, and semantics. German economic terminology is a dynamic system. Over time, new forms of management are emerging, business related to the sale of goods, services, and their production extends to foreign countries with foreign partners. This is why such terminology actively functions in the economic sphere of legislation, in the office work documentation. All scientific and technical phrases in the German language can be roughly divided according to the method of their creation into the following groups: common words terms, derived words terms and terminological phrases. Quite a considerable number of technical terms are characteristic of the German language. The studied terminology is heterogeneous and consists of a vocabulary of specific industries: investment, banking, finance, politics, economy, etc. The classification of terms and terminological phrases according to the content of the concepts was based on the collected material for research. It contains 170 terminological units picked by the method of continuous sampling from economic publications). Due to the analysis of the phatic material, it is possible to assert that the economic terminology of the German language is closely connected with the vocabulary of general use. Although terminological phrases are somewhat cumbersome, which contradicts the pragmatic principles of communication, they are motivated, which is extremely important in terminology. Such terminological units have more opportunities to reflect complex economic concepts accurately.

This paper argues that working memory is heavily involved in language acquisition as (a) a major part of language learning is the learning of sequences, (b) working memory allows short-term maintenance of sequence information, and (c) short-term rehearsal of sequences promotes the consolidation of long-term memories of language sequences. It first reviews evidence supporting this position. Next it presents an experiment that demonstrates that subjects encouraged to rehearse foreign language (FL) utterances are better than both silent controls and subjects who are prevented from rehearsal by articulatory suppression at (a) learning to comprehend and translate FL words and phrases, (b) explicit metalinguistic knowledge of the detailed content of grammatical regularities, (c) acquisition of the FL forms of words and phrases, (d) accuracy in FL pronunciation, and (e) some aspects of productive (but not receptive) grammatical fluency and accuracy. Finally, it describes possible mechanisms underlying these effects.

Loan words or borrowing words have already dominated in almost all of our everyday lives. All aspects of lives have already been inserted by foreign languages due to increasing the frequency of our contact with other nations through language. One of the examples is English loanwords in entitling the TV program in some Indonesian TV stations. This paper investigates the English words, phrases, expressions borrowed by Indonesian to entitle TV programs in 5 TV stations. Besides investigating the borrowing words, the writer also investigates the word class and borrowing process classification . The result of the research ranges 40% – 94.12 % of those 5 TV stations used English loanwords or phrases in entitling the program. The dominant process of loanwords still adoption, it ranges 33,310% - 100%, the second rank is adaptation , it ranges 9.5% -27.8 %, and the last one is one the three process of loanword, adoption, adaptation, and translation mixed with Indonesian. It ranges from 9.5 % to 38.9 %. Translation and creation are not clearly detected. In conclusion, almost all National TV stations are unavoidable using English loanwords in entitling the programs even TVRI as official TV station of this country. significantly influenced by them

The purpose of this research was to identify the different types of slang words and their meanings. Slang is an informal word that is often used by a certain group of people and usually differs in each region, so it is necessary to be researched to enjoy reading novel from a foreign country. The data was analyzed by reading the whole novel and looking for phrases that reflected slang words. The method used in this research was qualitative textual analysis and theories from experts. The theories used in this research were based on (Leech, 1974) seven types of slang word meaning: conceptual, connotative meaning, stylistic meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, and thematic meaning, as well as (Connie C. Elbe, 1996) examines that slang is an ever-changing set of colloquial words and phrases that speaker use to establish or reinforce a social identity of cohesiveness within a group or with a trend or fashion in society at large. The result of the research showed that there are sixty eights slang expressions were examined, and the slang words meanings discovered in this research were mostly expressed by their denotative meanings.

This study is entitled "Mixing Indonesian Language Codes in Advertising Discourse". The use of Indonesian in discourse advertisements has taken place in another language, namely local languages and foreign languages. This study examines the factors that cause code mixing, the types and forms / forms of code mixing, and the social meaning that is caused by the code mixing. The study uses the method of observation (observation) and data collection techniques, descriptive qualitative methods used in analyzing data, and informal methods used to collect the results of the analysis. In this study found two kinds of mixed codes, namely mixed codes into local languages (Balinese and Javanese) and mixed codes out of English. The shape and form of the code that is found is a mixture of code in the form of words, namely nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. In addition to the form of words also found a mixture of code in the form of phrases, namely nominal phrases, verbal phrases, and prepositional phrases. There are two causes of code mixing in discourse, namely intralinguistic factors and extralinguistic factors. The code mixing events in the discourse are related to the language and social background, so that social meaning arises due to the code mixing behavior. Social meaning that emerges, shows more educated, shows social class, shows creativity, and shows the practical and regionalism.

The main goal of teaching foreign language is the formation of foreign language communicative competence which implies the development of speech skills. In the methods there are different approaches to teaching foreign language, one of which is the lexical approach. Undoubtedly, the lexical approach involves focus on learning the vocabulary of the language. However, there are different points of view on which methods and forms of work are the most effective ones. Mastering vocabulary occurs by studying the compatibility of words, phrases and combinations of words. Collocations are an isolated concept, meaning certain words in a language that tend to be used together. Working with collocations is an essential component of the lexical skills formation, accordingly, we should speak about the inclusion of collocational competence in communicative competence. Analysis of the methodic literature showed that the issue of the collocations’ role in the lexical speech skills formation is not very disclosed in the domestic and foreign methodic literature. In the presented article: 1) we conduct an analysis of the works of domestic and foreign scientists on the lexical approach in teaching foreign language; 2) we prove that the process of learning vocabulary goes by learning certain combinations of words and the ability to use them; 3) we derive the definition of collocations based on the definitions and classifications of scientists; 4) we determine the key place of collocations in the vocabulary learning.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the peculiarities of the perception and understanding of Sonnets written by W. Shakespeare by the students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The methods of the research are: in order to study the features of perception and understanding of the absurd in the sonnets of W. Shakespeare we used the method of associative experiment. In our research we examined the dependence of the latent period of awareness of the absurd meaning of speech acts, depending on the nature of stimulation. For comparing we proposed to students high-frequency phrases, emotionally colored ones (chosen from the sonnets of W. Shakespeare), low-frequency statements, stylistically colored phrases, statements which include slang. The results of the research. At the end of the procedure of the experiment, a total of 1958 verbal responses of the students were received. From them, 897 reactions are for high frequency phrases; 458 – for emotionally colored ones; 293 are for low frequency phrases; 256 – for stylistically colored ones and only 54 reactions are for slang. At the stage of the analysis of the results we arranged the groups of words depending on statistical differences in the average time of the associative reaction for each group in order from the smallest one to the largest group: 1) high-frequency and emotionally colored; 2) stylistically colored: 3) low-frequency; 4) phrases with slang. Conclusions. It was proved that students adequately perceived and understood the emotionally colored phrases that were selected by us from W. Shakespeare’s sonnets and contained explicit and implicit absurd meaning. This gives us reason to argue that these statements, with their expressive context and absurd content, in a great degree attracted students that they perceived these phrases as personally significant, experienced them in such a way that they already entered their sphere of personally significant experience.

This article is an attempt to a new look at the role of coordinate phrases in communication. The object of the research is English proverbs as representations of coordinate syntactic connection and the subject is coordinate phrases that are realized in them. The article presents a brief history of the study of coordinate phrases in English. The author made a comparative analysis of the views of domestic and foreign linguists on the problem of distinguishing coordinate phrases in the language. She distinguishes such differential signs of coordinate phrases in English: the equality of components, the uniformity of the syntactic function of all components, the integrity of the structure, the implementation of the connection between components with the help of coordinate conjunctions, the order of words and intonations. The expression of coordinate phrases with the adversative conjunction but and cumulative conjunction and in English proverbs was studied. Their semantic space and formal-grammatical features also were analyzed. The author revealed about 12 specific realizations of the semantic volume of coordinate phrases with the cumulative conjunction and 5 variants of opposing semantic-syntactic relations with the adversative conjunction but in paremias. After the analysis, the author concludes that the peculiarity of coordinate phrases with conjunction but is their relatively larger semantic and grammatical dependence on the whole sentence – proverb than in the coordinate phrases with and, which can function independently without a sentence, although in some cases their conceptual fullness is also realized only in a general judgment. Coordinate phrases, being carriers of a certain semantic volume, act as key concepts of proverbs.

The article provides guidelines on working with thematic texts with students of non-linguistic majors. It seeks to formulate effective and efficient methods of working with thematic texts, drawing upon the main types of working with texts in general. The article has made use of the method of analysing thematic texts and, therefore, argues that there are three basic steps in working with thematic texts, namely pre-textual, textual, and post-textual. A set of exercises based on the book On the Uses of Philosophy by Will Durant has been used to illustrate the point. In the final analysis, the article argues that the methodology it sets out focuses on developing students’ reading skills through helping them:• correctly understand a foreign word;• make conscious use of the structure of the meanings of foreign words;• combine words and/or phrases in accordance with relevant lexical and grammatical rules;• formulate and express an opinion in a foreign language in various form with thematic vocabulary;• and understand thoughts expressed by other foreign-language speakers.

Currently, multimedia-assisted foreign language teaching is a topic of high interest in the field of foreign language teaching. The combination between multimedia and foreign language teaching enables the teaching activity to integrate functions, such as words, phrases, sounds, images, figures and animations which can arouse and stimulate the students’ enthusiasm and initiative as well as improve the teaching efficiency. However, the insufficient study of current foreign language teaching on both of the theories and practices of the multimedia-assisted foreign language teaching results in an unsatisfactory outcome of the multimedia-assisted teaching utilized by many foreign language teachers in middle school. Based on the knowledge and analysis of the status quo of the multimedia-assisted foreign language teaching and its design, this paper systematically discusses its contents of listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as its design, aiming at promoting teachers to spontaneously use the multimedia in the foreign language teaching, taking the maximum advantage of the multimedia-assisted teaching.

The aim of this study is to present the oral production in Italian as foreign language (A2+) in the higher education level as a result of some repetition task activities with repetition questions and the autonomy study of the students for the oral preparation. For this research it has been analysed how students answer to the same question in 1:1 conversation after four weeks. The corpus comprises a total of 20 oral answers (10 in the first conversation and 10 in the second) and has been transcribed using the Jefferson method. Through the research it should be highlighted that comparing the total of the first answers with the second, the number of words used were major in the second answers as well as the length of the answer. Furthermore, in the second conversation, the level of autocorrection was higher. In addition, no remarkable differences were found by the use of micro and long pauses, interjectional, cut of words or phrases.

This study aims to investigate students' perceptions of the Memory language learning strategy in mastering various English as a Foreign Language (EFL) language skills in SMK N 7 Semarang. A descriptive qualitative method was used with a questionnaire survey to collect data from 34 students of SMK N 7 Semarang who completed the nine items of the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire and a Background Characteristics survey. Three simultaneous actions in data analysis, according to Miles & Huberman, (1994): data reduction, data display, conclusions, and drawing/verification. The findings showed from the frequently used memory language strategy was to remember new words or phrases by remembering their location on the page on the board. The conclusions of the study's findings indicate that how English is used in practice affects how well it was learned. On the other hand, the findings showed a connection between using memory strategies and effectively learning English the most popular memory language learning strategy was remembering new words or phrases by remembering their location on the page, on the board.

This article is dedicated to the study of the semantic content of coordinate phrases and their role in the process of creating English idioms as representatives of the worldview of English society. The author outlines the key aspects of the interpretation of the linguistic picture of the world in domestic and foreign linguistics. The place and role of phraseological units, in particular idioms, in the English language picture of the world are clarified. The values ​​of these lexical units are emphasized, as they not only reflect the spheres of society but also contribute to the enrichment of the individual with linguistic information, help to learn the language through the prism of modern living communication, imbued with such units of language. The manifestation of coordinate phrases in English idioms is traced and the peculiarity of their formal-grammatical and semantic-syntactic levels is investigated. After the analysis, the author concludes that the language has idioms in which coordinate phrases are homogeneous, i.e. both components belong to the same part of speech, mainly nouns, verbs and adjective phrases. Their primary meaning as free phrases is leveled in the idioms, so the latter belong to the phraseological fusions according to the well-known V. Vinogradov’s classification of phraseological units. It is noteworthy that there are cases of coordinate connection at the level of word combinations between functional words – prepositions. Not surprisingly, but such combinations have all the parameters by which they can be attributed to fixed coordinate phrases.

This article aims at desribing foreign language learning strategies which should be possessed by each foreign language learner because their success or failure doesn’t depend only on the lecturer’s language teaching but also very much on the foreign language learning strategies. There are a lot of foreign language learning strategies; however, at least, there are fourteen foreign language learning strategies that they should possess and apply if they really want to succeed in learning a foreign language. The strategies will be enough for foreign language learners to reach their learning targets if they can possess and apply them as well as possible in learning whatever foreign language, like English for example. In addition to the fourteen strategies, how they will find or get them will also be presented and discussed in the article. It is advisable that a foreign language teacher or lecturer save a small amount of time of his/her teaching hours to teach those strategies, and that a learner apply them as well they can or make his/her own effort to find and apply them. This research focuses on code mixing that occurs in uploads to the Instagram account @ganjar_pranowo. Data were obtained from Instagram social media relating to multilingual and bilingual interaction processes that occur in society. All data was obtained and presented using a descriptive qualitative approach. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques using listening techniques. The method used to write data is the equivalent method with the translational equivalent technique. The data consists of uploading sentences in Indonesian, Javanese and English on the Instagram account of Ganjar Pranowo (@ganjar_pranowo). There are 11 data showing internal code mixing, consisting of 6 forms of words, 4 forms of phrases and 1 form of sentences. In internal code mixing, all data is in Javanese. There are 15 data showing external code mixing which are divided into 8 data in the form of words and 7 data in the form of phrases. External code mixing consisted of 14 data in English and only 1 data in another foreign language, namely Korean. The entire function of code mixing on the Instagram account @ganjar_pranowo is to familiarize and attract readers' attention.

The article is devoted to the problems of speaking skills in a foreign language, which cause barriers in communication with native speakers among students of language faculties. After analyzing various scientific works devoted to this problem, the authors come to the conclusion that the development of speaking skills is an important part in teaching a foreign language, since knowledge of individual words, phrases and grammatical rules of a foreign language does not guarantee successful communication. Due to the modern requirements of society, speaking skill is closely related to the concept of "intercultural communication", without highly developed speaking skills, effective intercultural communication is impossible. Nowadays, the world needs such specialists who will be able to enter into intercultural communication by understanding the culture of a foreign country. For this reason, the article discusses the problem of teaching speaking skills in the context of intercultural communication. The authors also showed a model of intercultural communicative competence. In the practical part of the study, the author demonstrated several effective tasks for the development of speaking skills among students of language faculties. In our research work, we used such methods as theoretical analysis of literature, pedagogical observation, experiment, and statistical data analysis. Discourse markers (DMs), represented by words and phrases such as but, you know, moreover, have for many years been a widely discussed topic in linguistics in Poland and abroad. However, no attention has been paid yet to DMs in teaching Polish as a foreign language (PFL). The paper explores this neglected issue by analysing the modes of presentation of DMs in the three most popular series of textbooks for teaching PFL (levels A1-B1). The textbooks were analysed manually to identify DMs and the ways in which they are taught. The results show that the textbooks differ in the number of DMs appearing in them. However, four common problematic aspects of the instruction of DMs in the analysed textbooks were identified: translation of DMs, usage of homographs of DMs, the mechanical nature of exercises and lack of sufficient input

The subject of this research is the foreign words adopted by native speakers of the Hill Mari language from or through the Russian language. The object of this research is the oral speech of modern native speakers of the Hill Mari language. The goal consists in determination of the role played by the Russian loanwords in the modern Hill Mari speech. The research leans on dialectological materials acquired in the rural areas of Hill Mari District of Republic of Mari El, as well as recording of radiobroadcast “Hill Mari Hour” and TV shows “My Hill Mari Land”) in the Hill Mari language, with application of the methods of observation, linguistic descriptions, elements of the comparative method, and continuous sampling technique. This article is first to analyze Russian loanwords in the oral speech of modern Hill Mari people, which defines the scientific novelty. The following conclusions were formulated: the active vocabulary of Hill Mari people have certain words that were adopted by Hill Mari language long ago and  perceived by native speakers as foreign words; there is also a range of word familiar to all native speakers, which are the only nomination for designated notions; speech of the people of new generation marks an excessive inappropriate use of foreign words that clutters up the native language, deprives its uniqueness, impedes communication between people, makes it unclear to some people, and results in the formation of improper phrases.

Newspapers are media of information read by the public. Thus, the use of language has an important role in making newspapers, especially journalism, so that language errors do not occur. However, language errors were still found in the headline of the Republika newspaper at the syntactic level in the field of phrases and sentences. This language error occurs because of a lack of understanding of the rules of the Indonesian language in writing news. The problems in this research are 1. How is the language error at the syntactic level of the phrase field in the headline of the Republika newspaper? 2. How is the language error at the syntactic level of the sentence field in the headline of the Republika newspaper? The purpose of this research is to describe, classify and analyze language errors at the syntactic level of the phrases and sentences in the headline of the Republika newspaper in order to obtain actual results. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data in this study are language errors in the fields of phrases and sentences contained in the headline of the Republika newspaper. The theory used refers to various theories put forward by Setyawati (2010) and Tarigan (2011). Techniques for data collection using documentation and Content Analysis (Content Analysis). The results of data analysis that has been carried out in the Headline of the Republika newspaper, found 36 errors in the phrase field, namely the influence of regional languages, the use of inappropriateprepositions, the use of excessive or redundant elements and excessive superlative forms. The sentence field errors found 84 errors, namely sentences that are not subject to, sentences are not subject to and are not predicated (stumped sentences), omission of conjunctions, excessive use of conjunctions, using foreign terms and using unnecessary question words. So there were 120 errors in the language at the syntactic level in the Header of the Republika newspaper.
