Peach(Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) is one of important economical deciduous fruits in the world. However, the performance of temperate peach in tropical Pingtung is unknown so far. Effect of cynamide and top-working on flowering and growth were studied to regulate the season in peach in the tropics. Three different concentration of cynamide (0.5%, 1% and 3%) were sprayed on plant of 2 year old. The result showed the budbreak rate were 0%,56.7%,71.7% and 50% respectively for control, 0.5%, 1% and 2% cynamide treatments. The scion wood were stored at 7 ℃ and then top-worked on peach plant at various time. The result showed that ‘take’ of grafting was higher when scions were stored longer in November and January. Combination of top-working and cynamide spray later showed the plant could flower 28 days after treatment, and the flowering more with longer storage time. In conclusion, cynamide can break dormancy and force flowering earlier in peach in the tropics. Key words:peach, cynamide, flowering, top-working
