Testo completoThe next generation of wave farms will becomposed of a large number of identical devices deployed offshore, which will transfer the retrieved energy to the shore using submarine cables. It hasbeen proven that the control of Wave Energy Converters can improve their efficiency. However, one of the main challenges of WEC control is the noncausality of the optimal controller. Indeed, the time domain application of this kind of control requires the forecast of the excitation force applied by the wavefield on each device of the farm. The work presented in this thesis aimed at developing and assessing a control strategy with an energy efficiency close to the theoretical optimum, taking into account the hydrodynamic interactions between the farm devices, and solving the non-causality issue using the measurements of the states of the device of the array. First, the equations linking the devices’ states within the array have been established and used to performa deterministic forecast of the states of the controlled bodies, which allowed to apply a pseudo-causal reactive control. Moreover, a window function hasbeen applied to the controller impedance in order to constrain the dynamic of the controlled bodies, and also to regulate the non-causal horizon of the controller. Then, using a time domain simulator developed specifically, a sensibility analysis has been performed to define the optimal parameters and the behavior of the controller with the window function. The robustness and the performances of the controller have also been assessed when affected by exterior changes such as device drift, wave orientation modification, and directional spreading of the wave spectrum. The collaborative controlled strategy applied to a farm of 10 devices has shown an energy efficiency over 83% of the theoretical bound

Testo completoPragmatical reforme instrument or evolution to a new form of state ? Here is the question asked in march 2003 by the constitutionnalisation of the expérimentation of local collectivities. Despite its constitutional base, the approach remain ambiguous. Inspired by the exacts science experiments, local experimentation is before all a fundamentally pragmatical process of reforme. It consists in submitting new rules to the test of the facts before the public authorities decide of its destiny according to the evalutation of its effects. With a brand new legislative dimension, local experimentation can appear as real local freedom which authorizes the local collectivities not to respect the national laws. Isn't it the way of emergence of real local powers ? So, the local experimentation is swinging between two directions. The principle of local experimentation allows a real autonomy of the local collectivities showing the way to a transformation of our Unitarian state. If the process of local experimentation is innovative as a principle, it is less according its implements which still traduce the traditional conception of the local autonomy. Finally, the movement is uncompleted

Testo completoExperimentation of comparative instrumental audiometry is situated at the interface of several fields: the evolution of audiometric techniques, the methodology developed within the verbo-tonal system, the work done in the field of music and deafness. This study involves the development of a new audiometric test using the sounds of musical instruments and compares the results with those of a standard tonal audiometric tonal audiometric test, for a population of deaf children and a equivalent population of hearing children. With the expectation of obtaining better results with the instrumental sounds than with the pure sounds, it was hoped that the conditions of these improved results could be studied, with particular attention to the relationship the child has with the world of sound (type of reeducation, musical education, language quality). The aim is to reach a better understanding of how hearing works in order to improve the tools on offer for auditory and language education for the deaf child. Unexpected results were obtained, permitting neither confirmation nor disproving of the starting hypotheses. These results led to complementary experiments being carried out: trying the test out on a adult deaf from birth and professional musician; rethinking the experimental procedure with the development of homogeneous series; recording musical sequences through hearing aids, opening up new avenues of reflection. Although it does not seem that instrumental audiometry constitutes a useful supplementary test, this study has nevertheless permitted the establishment of a synthesis of present knowledge about how hearing and deaf people hear, and of work on music and deafness. A body of thought has been developed about the perception of musical tone, a parameter which turns out to be much more complex than previously thought. Links have been established with certain psycho-acoustic and linguistic data, and several research avenues have been opened up

Gasparetto, Thomas. "Développement d'une ferme informatique utilisant le Cloud Computing sur GPU". Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020GRALY011.
Testo completoAll the work in this thesis has been developed in the context of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), which is going to be the major next-generation observatory for ground-based very-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy. The plan for this work is to use GPUs and Cloud Computing in order to speed up the computing demanding tasks, developing and optimizing data analysis pipelines. The thesis consists on two main parts: the first one is dedicated to the estimation of the future performances of CTA towards the observation of violent phenomena such as those generating Gamma Ray Bursts and Gravitational Waves, with a initial work done for the creation of the models for the First CTA Data Challenge. The second part of the thesis is related to the development of the pipelines for the reconstruction of the low-level data coming from the Monte Carlo simulations using the software library called ctapipe. In chapter 1 I go into the details of the CTA project, the telescopes and the performances of the array, together with the methods used to derive them from Monte Carlo simulations. The science goals of CTA and the Key Science Projects (KSPs) will be covered in chapter 2, with a focus on Gamma Ray Bursts and the follow-up of Gravitational Waves events. The work done for the First CTA Data Challenge (DC-1) is presented in chapter 3. More than 500 extragalactic sources have been modelled combining informations from different catalogues in order to create a population of AGNs. This Challenge has been important both to involve more people in the analysis of CTA data and to compute the observation time needed by the different KSP. The simulations for the gravitational waves and gamma-ray bursts Consortium papers have been created with the ctools_pipe pipeline (presented in chapter 4), implemented around the libraries ctools and gammalib. The pipeline is composed of two main parts: the task to be executed (background simulation, model creation and detection) and in which computing centre. The second part of the thesis is focused on the development and optimization of the analysis pipelines to be used for the event reconstruction of simulated raw data and for the visualization of the events in a 3D space. This analyses have been performed using ctapipe, a framework for prototyping the low-level data processing algorithms for CTA. The structure of the library is presented in chapter 5 together a focus on the reconstruction methods that are implemented in ctapipe, including the so called ImPACT. This method uses a template of images created from the Monte Carlo simulations and a seed from the standard reconstruction method to fit between the templates to find a better estimation of the shower parameters. The time profiling and the strategies adopted to optimize the ImPACT pipeline are presented in chapter 6. The implementation of the a pipeline for the analysis of the Large Size Telescope observing in monoscopic mode and its GPU implementation with PyTorch is also presented. ctapipe has also been used and developed to estimate the performances of CTA when observing using the “divergent pointing” mode, in which the pointing directions are slightly different with respect to the parallel pointing mode, so that the final hyper field-of-view of all the telescopes is larger with respect to the parallel pointing mode. The angular and energy resolutions and also the sensitivity are worse in this scenario, but having a wider hyper field-of-view can be good for other topics, such are searching for transient sources. The modifications to the reconstruction code introduced in ctapipe and some angular resolution plots for the simulated point source gammas are presented in chapter 7.The results presented in this thesis are a demonstration of the usage of advanced software techniques in very high energy astrophysics

Testo completoThis work is about sensory interactivity, real-time 3D and visual arts. This artistic and technical study falls within a long-term research, introducing the notion of an enhanced representation of Death, embodied by the Vanitas and exploring new ways of inducing feedback about a work of art. From an artistic point of view, this research analyses the creation process which led us from the enhanced representation of Death on video, to the experience of the Vanitas through a total immersion into virtual pictures. This analysis brings out the motives for the creation and the use of 3D Vanitases in interactive installations. It highlights the issues raised by this innovative process regarding the History of the Vanitas since its outbreak. It goes further, by developing an original approach, to the communication between the audience and the work of art, introducing the use of a sensorial interface as a medium. At the technical level, the study revolves around the use of a Brain Computer Interface (BCI), inducing a new way of discovering and interacting with a work of art, as part of a feedback process. It creates a sense of interactivity, between concentration and meditation. The control of the brainwaves and muscular contractions brings the Body and the Mind together to achieve the mastery of the BCI

Testo completoA condensing-injector is a thermo-compression device where a steam drags directly a subcoleed liquid and delivers a liquid mixing with an outlet pressure higher than the both upstream injections pressures. The functioning principle of injectors involves sophisticated thermo-hydraulic process, and actual knowledge is essentially empirical. This work presents a theorical and experimental approach of condensing-injector. A general description of injectors is firstly presented, followed by an ideal thermo-dynamic modelling which explains clearly the principle of functioning. In a second part, we present global experimental results realized on several injectors and the main scaling and driving laws. These results are completed by a global modelling which required a closure law deduced from our experimental values. Then, local measurements (2D) are carried out on a special device with a rectangular section, where the flow was firstly visualized. This measurement are respectively, the void fraction, the static pressure and the static temperature and so, permits the calculation of all the variable and a well understanding of the physical phenomena involved in the flow. Especially, we show, in some well-defined zones, the existence of important non-equilibrium kinetic, thermal and thermodynamic phenomena. Thus, a local modelling (1D) is presented for the all part of the rectangular injector. The model for the primary nozzle is a homogeneous equilibrium model. The two-phase flow model for the mixing chamber is based on a system of six coupled governing equations and closure laws calculated from our local measurements. This model predicts good results for the upstream part of the mixing chamber, but it was impossible to solve it for the condensation wave. The causes of these difficulties are discussed and some other computing methods are investigated
Langard, Morgan. "Robot humanoïde bioinspiré : Conception et expérimentation". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Angers, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023ANGE0079.
Testo completoIn the field of humanoïd robotic, bipedal walking is still an open research fiel, such as the development of control laws, trajectory generation or original architecture designs. Bipedal robots classicaly use rotative motors for their actuation system. These motors are usually coupled with a reduction system in order to achieve sufficient torques. This combination impose to compromise between the output torque and the mecanical reversibility of the system, which limits impact absorption. An alternative is the use of direct-drive linear actuators, inherently reversible. However, linear motors are scarcely used with a rotative actuator linked to a ball-screw, with a limited reversibility. As linear motors produce a translational force, a torque is generated through a lever arm. This specificity requires an optimal placement of the actuators to en sure the feasability of the required torques. To improve our knowledge of this technology and evaluate its use in the robotic field, multiple bipedal planar robot architectures are simulated along different trajectories and compared. In parallel, an optimal geometry is computed for each architecture to maximize motion feasability. From these results, a prototype using solely direct-drive linear actuators is designed and built in order to verify simulation data

Testo completoThis work deals with the experimental investigation and modelling of activated sludge settling. An experimental setup combining a settling column and an ultrasonic transducer is proposed. Settling velocity and concentration profiles are obtained using this setup, allowing for a better understanding of the mechanisms of activated sludge settling. These results are applied to the development of a numerical approach. A settling model using experimental functions is built. A methodology based on the automatic differentiation of the model is developed. This methodology is used, on the one hand, to analyse the sensitivity of the results to the model parameters and, on the other hand, to identify the parameter values on the basis of experimental data. The combination of the proposed experimental and numerical methods yields an efficient process for the development of sedimentation models

Testo completoIn addition to financial reporting, more and more companies report Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) information. This practice is intended to fulfill the information needs of all the company’s stakeholders, and more specifically the investors. This thesis aims to analyze the perception, usefulness and influence of ESG information on the investment decision of financial professionals. For this, the decision-usefulness information theory is mobilized. The empirical investigation consists of two steps: the first is an exploratory study of both qualitative (based on focus groups as well as semi-structured interviews) and quantitative (based on an online questionnaire). It reveals professional financial interest for 11 indicators related to ESG information issued from the G3.1 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative. The second step consists of an experiment with the aim to verify the effect of the indicators revealed during the exploratory phase on the investment allocation decisions of a sample of 245 subjects, among which half of them are experienced financial professionals. The results show that ESG information overall, the investor’s level of experience and the investment time horizon all influence the investment allocation decision. In addition, the Social and Governance information has more influence than Environmental information

Testo completoThe transformations undergone by gender relations in France since the sixties have also had an impact on the farming world. The quest of women for a social and professional identity, independent from their husband's, modifies farming practices. The emergence of the Bed and Breakfast activity is analysed in terms of this quest for autonomy and individualisation. The present enquiry is principally based on forty interviews carried out in the Charente-Maritime region with both men and women who have or have had a board and lodging activity. This enables us to map out two contrasting situations. When the husband takes on the tourist activity it becomes an additional source of income for the farm and accentuates the sexual division of labour. The accommodation activity is then integrated into the farming activity and the women's contribution rmains largely invisible. . .

Testo completoThe present thesis is based on a complete inventory of experimental statutes adopted during the Fifth Republic first fifty years. It sets forth a series of criterion to define this type of statute, and tries to weigh the pros and cons of a law-making method which appears to be at odds with fundamental constitutionnal principles such as equal protection of the laws or indivisibility of the Republic. Empirical analysis of experimental statutes also sheds a new light on the drawbacks of a method which is sometimes presented as a means to rationalize the legislative process, and leads to a de lega feranda reflection about the very notion of experimental statutes

Testo completoThe physical mechanisms responsible for the induced polarization response over the frequency range (from 1 mHz to 20 kHz) are not completely understood. In particular, within the framework of this thesis, two subjects have been addressed. The origin of the signal observed at high frequency (HF) (>1 kHz) was analyzed by carrying out Spectral IP measurements on tap water samples. A phase deviation from the expected response has been observed at HF. The resulted deviation in phase appears to be dependent on the measuring electrode type (potential electrodes) and conductivity of the medium. A model based on an equivalent electrical circuit and designed to represent HF response, has been proposed to correct these effects. The mechanism responsible for the polarization in a medium containing semi-conductor grains has been investigated by analyzing the dependence of the relaxation time. We carried out experimental measurements on a sand medium containing different types of semi-conductors. The spectral response was studied by varying the concentration and type of the electrolyte, the size and content of semi-conductor grains. By using the finite element method, a 2D numerical simulation based on Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations was performed in time and frequency domains. The experimental results are qualitatively in accordance with numerical simulation. It showed a comparable decrease in the relaxation time when increasing the electrolyte concentration. Finally, field measurements on a paleo-mining site containing semi-conductor grains have been acquired. Time-domain IP measurements allowed us to define the zones of slag in the site and led to estimate the slag volume

Testo completoThe objective of this master's project was therefore to develop a low cost and sustainable technology for the treatment and disposal of milk house wastewaters that would permit on-farm recycling of nutrients and water. With the help of the research results of Urgel Delisle and Ass., the new system was done by modifying existing septic tank systems on two dairy farms with 40-50 cows by installing a sediment and milk fat trap before the septic tank, and building a drained 0.45ha seepage field in a pasture or cropped field, after the septic tank.
The modified septic tank system on each farm was monitored during a three year period, which involved checking the system for clogging by digging out sections of sewer pipes after two years of operation; measuring and sampling milk house wastewaters to establish the annual nutrient load, and comparing the water quality in drainage from the seepage field to that of a nearby control field.
The milk house wastewaters produced by the farms led to an average nutrient load of 60kg TN/ha/y, 50kg TP/ha/y and 80 kg TK/ha/y. The average volume of wastewater applied to the seepage field, between 16 and 19mm/month, did not saturate the soil as no sign of gleying (reduction of iron oxides) was observed when excavating the sewer pipes. In general, soil pH decreased when milk house wastewater entered the seepage field, while the NH4-N, K and Ca concentrations increased. However, soil salinity was low (<4 dS m -1) on these farms. The soil P concentration was unchanged on one farm, but there was rapid and significant accumulation of P in the 20-60 cm depth of the soil profile on the second farm. The accumulation of milk fat inside the sewer pipes on one farm resulted from the disposal of wasted milk into the septic system, the absence of a water softener and the fact that this fat was not regularly removed from the trap. The milk fat was then flowed into the septic tank harming the correct operation of the system. Drainage water quality was similar from the seepage field of the modified septic tank system as an adjacent control field.
The low cost of system modification, about $4 400 Can., and the treatment efficiency achieved meant that the concept is feasible and offers a suitable solution for small dairy farms.

Testo completoThe area formerly placed under the authority of the archpriest of souvigny stretches along the left bank of the river allier from neuvy to the north, in "oil" speaking territory down to saint-germain-de-salles to the south, in "oc" speaking territory. A study of the vocabulary reveals the existence of rich and varied forms of local speech with relatively clear-cut borderlines. As regards phonetics, many of the "oc"-language characteristics only occur in the southernmost part of the area limited to the north by bayet : masculine part participle ending in (a), masculine endings in (a) contrasted with feminine endings in (o), infinitive ending in -a stemming from -are, numerous diphtongs. The consonant system also has its characteristics : final consonants dropped, (p) altered into intervocalic (pr), palatalization, initial (k) or (g) altered. As regards the lexis, two dividing lines delimitate areas in which different words going in pairs are used to name the same things. One line, running through monetay marks the boundary between the north of the area and its central and southern parts. The second line, running trough bayet contrasts words spoken in the north and center with words spoken in the south. Besides, isolate areas with apparently archaic speech forms can be delimited in the centre of the zone. The study therein throws light on the way the "oil" dialects and french language gradually spread southwards

Testo completoThe aim of this thesis is to show the negotiating framework involved in technical change by pointing out how it is build up, little by little, trough dialogue involving technology, nature and society. In fact, taking into consideration the problems participants have in understanding the process of innovation, it is better to seek answers, not in terms of the impact that technology has on the environment but rather by analysing technical change as though it were an entily which mobilies its allies and conquers its opponents. Our investigation is based on farm computerisation. Our submission is a social-technical presentation of innovation and the public policies which apply to computerisation in the country-side. At the end of this work, we set out an analysis grid on innovation covering the participants and products which support it. The products are recognised by the following points : 1-they are not formed in a social vacuum ; 2-they are not given in advance ; 3 - they change and adjust themselves in order to create ever bigger supportive networks ; 4-they alter the networks ; 5-the networks alter the products ; 6- the repetition of the latter two characteristics modifies the social and technical landscape. This understanding of technical change leads us to propose a new model for state intervention in the processes of innovation
