Abstract (sommario):
There are distinctive and characteristic genomic modifications in primordial germ cells that distinguish the germ cell lineage from somatic cells. These modifications include, genome-wide demethylation, erasure of allele-specific methylation associated with imprinted genes, and the re-activation of the X chromosome. The allele-specific differential methylation is involved in regulating the monoallelic expression, and thus the gene dosage, of imprinted genes, which underlies functional differences between parental genomes. However, when the imprints are erased in the germ line, the parental genomes acquire an equivalent epigenetic and functional state. Therefore, one of the reasons why primordial germ cells are unique is because this is the only time in mammals when the distinction between parental genomes ceases to exist. To test how the potentially imprint-free primordial germ cell nuclei affect embryonic development, we transplanted them into enucleated oocytes. Here we show that the reconstituted oocyte developed to day 9.5 of gestation, consistently as a small embryo and a characteristic abnormal placenta. The embryo proper also did not progress much further even when the inner cell mass was ‘rescued’ from the abnormal placenta by transfer into a tetraploid host blastocyst. We found that development of the experimental conceptus was affected, at least in part, by a lack of gametic imprints, as judged by DNA methylation and expression analysis of several imprinted genes. The evidence suggests that gametic imprints are essential for normal development, and that they can neither be initiated nor erased in mature oocytes; these properties are unique to the developing germ line.

Abstract (sommario):
Mammalian parthenotes cannot develop normally to term. Mouse parthenogenetic embryos die by Day 10 of gestation. On the other hand, viable parthenogenetic chimeras were produced by normal host embryos, although parthenogenetic cells were observed in a limited number of tissues and organs and, even in these instances, their contribution was substantially reduced. This can be explained by the aberrant expressions of imprinted genes in parthenogenetic cells. In female mice, erasure of imprints occurs around the time that primordial germ cells enter the gonad, and establishment of imprints occurs in the postnatal growth phase of oogenesis. In this study, we investigated whether aberrant imprints in parthenogenetic embryonic stem (PgES) cells can be erased through the germline. Diploid parthenogenetic embryos were produced by activation of (CBA × C57BL/6-EGFP) F1 mouse superovulated unfertilized oocytes by exposure to Sr2+ and cytochalasin B. Ten parthenogenetic blastocysts were plated and three PgES cell lines were isolated. Chimeras were made by injecting 10–15 PgES cells into ICR(CD-1) mouse blastocysts. Chimeras and chimeric tissues were detected by fluorescent microscopy. In all, 173 chimeric blastocysts were transferred to 9 recipient females, and 101 live pups containing 9 female and 21 male chimeras were born. No significant growth retardation was apparent in PgES chimeras, irrespective of their degree of chimerism. In 5 male chimeras killed at 1 day postpartum (dpp), PgES cells showed a restricted tissue contribution. The contribution to lung, liver, and intestine was considerably lower than in the other tissues such as brain, heart, spleen, and kidney. PgES derived or host embryo derived non-growing oocytes were isolated from dissociated ovaries of female chimeras at 1 dpp under fluorescent microscopy. Methylation imprints in non-growing oocytes were analyzed for maternally methylated imprinted genes Peg1, Snrpn, and Igf2r by the combined bisulfite restriction analysis (COBRA). In normal oocytes, imprints are expected to be erased and these genes are unmethylated at this stage. We observed that these genes were unmethylated in both PgES derived and host embryo derived non-growing oocytes. These results suggest that aberrant imprints in PgES cells can also be erased normally through the germline.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Even though water is regarded as something long understood and explained by conventional science – many open-minded researchers know that it still hides many mysteries (water clusters, coherent domains, so-called memory, etc.). Many of these mysteries come to fore in ultra-high dilution (UHD) experiments and practices, where usually not even one molecule of the originating substances is left. Mostly, they can be tackled only by using the droplet evaporation method (DEM).1 Aim: One of the hypotheses of water memory suggests that through UHD (dilutions, shaking) the field of a substance is stably impressed into water. If this is true than we should be able to imprint also a field itself - not originating from a certain substance, but from other sources. Such imprint should be revealed by an appropriate research method. Method: The DEM consists of monitoring dried water drops by dark field microscopy. It was discovered in the previous century by Ruth Kübler, a German artist, and further developed by Bernd-Helmut Kröplin, Minnie Hein, Berthold Heusel M. A. and Georg Schröcker. It has also been used to research the still controversial special characteristics of ultra-high diluted aqueous solutions.2 It has been proved capable of demonstrating differences in subtle influences of an UHD (around 10-47 M, practically “pure” water) of As2O3 on common wheat seeds. This method is therefore, capable of transferring certain, not yet fully understood or generally accepted subtle physical characteristicsof the solution to the remnant patterns after drop evaporation.3, 4 We used DEM to evaluate experiments on impressing the subtle field of five bioenergy healers and two so called “informed” objects (a glass and an “energy” card) into mineral or spring water with well-known characteristics. In all these experiments we also used control water that was of the same origin, but placed in a separate room. The DEM images were analyzed by special computer programs and statistically evaluated. No mother tincture of any kind was used. Results: The results demonstrate that even such subtle fields can leave stable and reproducible imprints in water - made visually accessible by the remnant patterns after drop evaporation. The irradiated water samples were statistically different from the control. This difference can usually be observed even by a naked eye. Conclusion These results have several implications. They confirm as follows: a) water memory – the main background of UHD effects, b) the possibility to imprint the fields into water, c) the existence of subtle fields not yet generally recognized by physical community and d) the capability of DEM to express the imprints.

Abstract (sommario):
“Corazón de la oscuridad” [Heart of Darkness] takes up a title by Joseph Conrad; here darkness equals evil. It admits the polysemy of the word evil, which bounces back on its opposite good. In ancient philosophy, God was the Highest good, Christian religion left an imprint of this faith even in individuals who do not consider themselves religious. Even if we are not aware of it, many of the imprints that we carry inside ourselves (in the other self) move the affects. We must discover the manifested motive; then we discover the twinning character of the sacred, explicit in the patron saint festivities. Ancient rituals, however terrible we may judge them, lead to sociability as a symbol, and can become a manifestation of good and justice.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We study the capabilities of present and future radio very long baseline interferometry arrays to distinguish black holes from horizonless spacetimes. We consider an example of a horizonless spacetime, obtained by overspinning a regular black hole. Its image is distinct from the image of a Kerr spacetime due to a second set of photon rings interior to the shadow. These photon rings cannot be directly resolved by present and even next-generation Event Horizon Telescope arrays, but instead imprint themselves in horizon-scale images as excess central brightness relative to that of a black hole. We demonstrate that future arrays can decrease the upper bound on the central brightness depression by a factor of 10 and thereby detect such indirect imprints from non-Kerr spacetimes in reconstructed images.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT We consider the possibility that dark energy and baryons might scatter off each other. The type of interaction we consider leads to a pure momentum exchange, and does not affect the background evolution of the expansion history. We parametrize this interaction in an effective way at the level of Boltzmann equations. We compute the effect of dark energy-baryon scattering on cosmological observables, focusing on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature anisotropy power spectrum and the matter power spectrum. Surprisingly, we find that even huge dark energy-baryon cross-sections $\sigma _{xb} \sim {\cal O}({\rm b})$, which are generically excluded by non-cosmological probes such as collider searches or precision gravity tests, only leave an insignificant imprint on the observables considered. In the case of the CMB temperature power spectrum, the only imprint consists in a sub-per cent enhancement or depletion of power (depending whether or not the dark energy equation of state lies above or below −1) at very low multipoles, which is thus swamped by cosmic variance. These effects are explained in terms of differences in how gravitational potentials decay in the presence of a dark energy-baryon scattering, which ultimately lead to an increase or decrease in the late-time integrated Sachs–Wolfe power. Even smaller related effects are imprinted on the matter power spectrum. The imprints on the CMB are not expected to be degenerate with the effects due to altering the dark energy sound speed. We conclude that, while strongly appealing, the prospects for a direct detection of dark energy through cosmology do not seem feasible when considering realistic dark energy-baryon cross-sections. As a caveat, our results hold to linear order in perturbation theory.

Abstract (sommario):
This is the first study of bony fish remains across the K/Pg boundary section at Stevns Klint, Denmark. The studied specimens comprise one partly preserved articulated skeleton, a few isolated bones, and casts from several otolith imprints and voids. As otoliths are aragonitic, the remains are all dissolved. The imprints of the otoliths originate from the uppermost Maastrichtian Højerup Member or ‘Grey Chalk’, and the bone fragments and the partial skeleton were obtained from the Fiskeler Member directly above the K/Pg boundary. Further otolith imprints originated from the basal Danian Cerithium Limestone Member, which directly overlies the Fiskeler Member. Six otolith-based taxa were identified from the uppermost Maastrichtian and three from the basal Danian. One of the species found in the uppermost Maastrichtian persisted into Danian times (Polymixia? harderi), a second represents a common genus in both Maastrichtian and Danian but cannot be identified to the species level (Centroberyx sp.), and a third taxon is an unidentifiable dynematichthyid, which, however, certainly does not belong to any of the known Danian dinematichthyid species. The species recognised in the basal Danian all persisted well into later Danian times or even the Selandian, showing a remarkable consistency of the early Paleocene bony fish fauna. We find no indication of phased extinction in the aftermath of the K/Pg boundary event in the data recovered from the Danian.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Detection of specific chromosomal abnormalities is essential in the diagnosis of several lympholiferative disorders. However, conventional cytogenetic studies are not frequently carried out from biopsies as it is in bone marrow (BM) specimens. On the contrary, FISH is usually performed on paraffin embedded tissue, an alternative with potential technical nuances both in its application and its interpretation. In our experience, FISH on tissue imprints is the ideal alternative to overcome these problems. In the present study, 46 tissue imprints and 17 BM smears from 43 patients with lymphomas were selected to investigate the presence of t(14;18)(q32;q21), t(11;14)(q13;q32), t(8;14)(q24;q32) and t(3;var)(q27;var). Representativity of the samples was assured prior to FISH by rapid May-Grümwald staining (Diff-Quick, QCA, Spain). Twenty imprints from reactive palatine tonsils and adenoids were used as negative controls. FISH was performed with specific dual-color dual-fusion FISH (D-FISH) probes for the first 3 translocations and a dual-color break-apart FISH probe for t(3;var)(q27;var) following the instructions of the probes supplier (Vysis, Inc). All except one sample (a BM smear stored at room temperature over 9 years), rendered satisfactory FISH hybridizations. In any case, all 43 patients could be successfully studied by FISH (the case referred above in which FISH failed in a first attempt was successfully analyzed using a different sample). The results supported the suspected diagnosis of follicular lymphoma in 22 patients, mantle cell lymphoma in 12 patients, large B-cell lymphoma in 5 patients, marginal zone lymphoma in 2 patients and B chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2 patients. In one case, the observation of t(11;14) by FISH allowed to reclassify the case from follicular to mantle cell lymphoma and also to demonstrate clonal evolution by studying sequential tissue imprints stored for more than 6 years. Negative results also aided in the assignment of patients to proper diagnostic categories. FISH performed on tissue imprints and BM smears constitutes an optimal strategy for retrospective and prospective investigation of chromosomal abnormalities in lymphomas. Tissue imprints and BM smears conventionally stored at room temperature even for long periods of time can be safely used and sent by ordinary mail without special considerations for this purpose. Based on our experience we recommend to perform and routinely store tissue imprints whenever fresh tissue is available.

Abstract (sommario):
Extemporary (EXT) analysis is unavoidable in establishing the tumor diagnosis, operability and the extent of the operation. Alternative approach is cytologic analysis which, because of its simple methodology, provides results even faster. In this paper, the results of cytologic imprints (CI) and EXT finding were compared with definite histopathologic diagnosis (HDP) to determine the value of both methods. A total of 109 samples obtained during 55 thoracotomies were analyzed. Eighty eight specimens were analyzed simultaneously by CI Method and in frozen sections. Twenty one sample was analyzed only by cytologic methods and the results of standard CI were compared with definite HDP. After being processed for EXT diagnosis, intraoperative specimens were imprinted on glass slides, air-dried and stained by May-Gr?nwald-Giemsa Method. In cytologic analysis there were no false negative results, but there were 7 false positives. The overall diagnostic accuracy was 93.6%, sensitivity and negative predictive value was 100%, specificity was 91.1% and positive predictive value was 81.8%. Diagnostic accuracy of frozen sections was 98.8% also without false negatives and with one false positive finding with sensitivity and negative predictive value of 100%, specificity of 98.4% and positive predictive value of 95%. These results corresponded to the results of other studies and confirmed the efficacy of CI method, which could be used either simultaneously with EXT diagnosis as a complementary or as an alternative method in the hospitals where EXT analysis is not used. However, imprint cytology demands an experienced cytologist and could be used only in hospitals with well organized cytologic service.

ABSTRACTThis article analyzes the effects of firms’ founding ownership in shaping their corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance in China. Drawing on a nationwide survey of 1,037 representative manufacturing firms in 12 cities, we specify the imprinting effects of firms’ founding ownership on labor and environmental protections, two important CSR practices. Our results show that state-owned enterprises (SOEs) founded during the state socialist period, regardless of their restructuring experience in the market reform era, continued to implement pro-labor practices. Moreover, even the SOEs founded in the market reform era provided better labor protection than non-SOEs founded during the same time. In contrast, the founding imprints of environmentalism in the reform era for non-SOEs, especially thede novoprivate firms, explain why they spent more than SOEs in environmental protection. We extend the organizational imprinting theory by highlighting the importance of firms’ founding ownership imprints and in shaping their current CSR performance.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Solar coronal waves frequently appear as bright disturbances that propagate globally from the eruption center in the solar atmosphere, just like the tsunamis in the ocean on Earth. Theoretically, coronal waves can sweep over the underlying chromosphere and leave an imprint in the form of Moreton wave, due to the enhanced pressure beneath their coronal wave front. Despite the frequent observations of coronal waves, their counterparts in the chromosphere are rarely detected. Why the chromosphere rarely bears the imprints of solar tsunamis remained a mystery since their discovery three decades ago. To resolve this question, all coronal waves and associated Moreton waves in the last decade have been initially surveyed, though the detection of Moreton waves could be hampered by utilizing the low-quality Hα data from the Global Oscillations Network Group. Here, we present eight cases (including five in the Appendix) of the coexistence of coronal and Moreton waves in inclined eruptions where it is argued that the extreme inclination is key to providing an answer to address the question. For all these events, the lowest part of the coronal wave front near the solar surface appears very bright, and the simultaneous disturbances in the solar transition region and the chromosphere predominantly occur beneath the bright segment. Therefore, evidenced by observations, we propose a scenario for the excitation mechanism of the coronal-Moreton waves in highly inclined eruptions, in which the lowest part of a coronal wave can effectively disturb the chromosphere even for a weak (e.g., B-class) solar flare.

This article provides an overview of suicide and how society deals with it. Starting from early societal imprints through historical, religious and political influences, the origins of stigmatization are addressed. Even today, suicidal people experience stigmatization not only from society but also from the health system that treats suicidal people. This has far-reaching consequences for the people affected and runs counter to optimal treatment. Different approaches to a possibly improved handling of suicidality will be discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study, a methodology utilizing peptide conformational imprints (PCIs) as a tool to specifically immobilize porcine pancreatic alpha-trypsin (PPT) at a targeted position is demonstrated. Owing to the fabrication of segment-mediated PCIs on the magnetic particles (PCIMPs), elegant cavities complementary to the PPT structure are constructed. Based on the sequence on targeted PPT, the individual region of the enzyme is trapped with different template-derived PCIMPs to show certain types of inhibition. Upon hydrolysis, N-benzoyl-L-arginine ethyl ester (BAEE) is employed to assess the hydrolytic activity of PCIMPs bound to the trypsin using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. Further, the kinetic data of four different PCIMPs are compared. As a result, the PCIMPs presented non-competitive inhibition toward trypsin, according to the Lineweaver-Burk plot. Further, the kinetic analysis confirmed that the best parameters of PPT/PCIMPs 233–245+G were Vmax = 1.47 × 10−3 mM s−1, Km = 0.42 mM, kcat = 1.16 s−1, and kcat/Km = 2.79 mM−1 s−1. As PPT is bound tightly to the correct position, its catalytic activities could be sustained. Additionally, our findings stated that the immobilized PPT could maintain stable activity even after four successive cycles.

In 2021—2022, the Basivka team of the Putivl expedition conducted the archaeological exploration at the settlement 3 «Bashta» of the Basivka hill-fort in Sumy Region. This is the largest settlement of the Scythian period in the Sula River basin. In the excavation area, more than 400 fragments of clay items including 27 complete cones were found. Since the large number of prints on clay products, represented mostly by the rims and bottoms of the hand-made pots, has a scientific interest a more detailed examination of the collection was carried out. According to the results of the study, the following issues were taken into account: individual grains of cultivated plants on the walls of pots and on cones; various prints on the bottoms of the pots. Single prints (19 items in total) are not of statistical interest. Mainly mass imprints of cereal grains and waste from them (mainly millet) on the bottom of the pots have been found. The found bottoms were: 1) almost completely covered with imprints of intact millet grains (that is, in flakes), 2) covered with imprints of grains and waste; 3) with imprints of waste without grains. In isolated cases the waste from the threshing of other grain crops was found on the bottoms. According to materials from other Scythian sites it is known that grain (and waste from threshing) was sprinkled, and sand was used. No sand prints were found at settlement 3 «Bashta». There are also isolated cases of fabric usage (both on materials under study and other sites) and even leaves of broad-leaved tree species (Tsyrkuny). However, the small number of such cases hardly proves the global tradition of using such «substrates». On the other hand, the tradition of pouring cereals (mainly millet) and waste from them under the bottom of pots was very common in the Early Iron Age. We believe that such prints on the bottoms testify to the period of «mass» production of ceramics: mainly after the harvest.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Vijñānavāda Buddhism claims all kind of experience, including knowledge, is “mere ideation” (vijñaptimātra), being devoid of any objective counter-part, of any objective value. The experience of knowledge is determined solely by the individual predispositions of the knowing subject (his “imprints of the linguistic constructions —abhilāpavāsanā) and not by an alleged “external reality”. Nevertheless, the school is able to claim the existence of a “truth”, even in the absence of an objective reality that could account for this “truth”. The truth of Vijñānavāda philosophy does not mean, in an Aristotelian or realistic manner, the concordance between subjective representation and objective reality but a mere consonance of the various subjective knowledge experiences. What determines such a truth are the so-called “shared” (sādhāraṇa) seeds (bīja) of experience, which inflict a certain degree of similarity to the experiences of various individual subjects. Hence, the truth has no cognitive value, being rather a state of Karmic tuning, i.e. the consonance of the experiences engendered by the “shared” part of the Karmic imprints of each individual being.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. Nitrate concentrations in groundwater have been historically high (N≥11.3 mg L−1) in an area surrounding Tinwald, Ashburton, since at least the mid-1980s. The local community is interested in methods to remediate the high nitrate in groundwater. To do this, they need to know where the nitrate is coming from. Tinwald groundwater exhibits two features stemming from irrigation with local groundwater (i.e. irrigation return flow). The first feature is increased concentrations of nitrate (and other chemicals and stable isotopes) in a “hotspot” around Tinwald. The chemical concentrations of the groundwater are increased by recirculation of water already relatively high in chemicals. The irrigation return flow coefficient C (irrigation return flow divided by irrigation flow) is found to be consistent with the chemical enrichments. The stable isotopes of the groundwater show a similar pattern of enrichment by irrigation return flow of up to 40 % and are also enriched by evaporation (causing a loss of about 5 % of the original water mass). Management implications are that irrigation return flow needs to be taken into account in modelling of nitrate transport through soil–groundwater systems and in avoiding overuse of nitrate fertiliser leading to greater leaching of nitrate to the groundwater and unnecessary economic cost. The second feature is the presence of “denitrification imprints” (shown by enrichment of the δ15N and δ18ONO3 values of nitrate) in even relatively oxic groundwaters. The denitrification imprints can be clearly seen because (apart from denitrification) the nitrate has a blended isotopic composition due to irrigation return flow and N being retained in the soil–plant system as organic N. The nitrate concentration and isotopic compositions of nitrate are found to be correlated with the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration. This denitrification imprint is attributed to localised denitrification in fine pores or small-scale physical heterogeneity where conditions are reducing. The implication is that denitrification could be occurring where it is not expected because groundwater DO concentrations are not low.

Abstract (sommario):
Paraglacial processes represent the dominant mechanism of geomorphic change in deglaciating landscapes worldwide and are now being increasingly recognised as controls on deglacial and postglacial landscape dynamics. This reflects the influence of glacigenic lithospheric loading/unloading cycles and patterns of glacigenic erosion and deposition. Ireland is an important location for studying the impacts of paraglacial processes in the landscape, as it was strongly imprinted by the erosional and depositional imprints of late Pleistocene glaciations and was affected by rapid shifts in North Atlantic climate. Using examples from mountains, rivers and coasts from across Ireland, this study examines some of the varied landscape responses to paraglacial relaxation in these different settings. The purpose behind this study is to show how the styles of paraglacial response may vary over time and space, even within a single regional landscape, and this can help assess the sensitivity of different environments affected by paraglacial relaxation. This study proposes an evolutionary model that describes the paraglacial sediment cascade that has shaped the Irish landscape during the lateglacial and Holocene. Consideration of paraglacial processes can yield a better understanding of the postglacial evolution of mountain, river and coastal landscapes in Ireland.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper reports an empirical study on the co-evolution of competitive conditions dominating firms and organizational forms in the paper industry1. It has two main theoretical implications. First, with respect to research on national business systems and the societal effect, we suggest that the country of origin imprints firms especially by allowing them to develop distinctive organizational forms. Second, we show that the competitive conditions, dominant forms and dominant firms remain in constant flux even in mature industries. There is, therefore, a need for co-evolutionary research to continue to combine long-term perspectives and intensive research designs in the study of specific industries.

Abstract (sommario):
We provide evidence of delayed attention and inaction in response to COVID-19 in countries that did not experience SARS in 2003. Using cross-country data, we find that individuals in countries that had SARS infections in 2003 searched more intensively for COVID-19-related information on Google in late January 2020, the time of the first known outbreak in Wuhan, China. Early attention to the novel virus, as measured by Google searches, is associated with deeper stock market drops in countries with SARS experience. In contrast, people in countries without SARS experience started to pay more attention much later, in March. Moreover, governments in these countries responded significantly more slowly in implementing social distancing policies to combat domestic COVID-19 outbreaks than governments in countries with SARS experience. Moreover, such early responses of individuals and governments in countries with SARS experience are prevalent within continent, even in non-Asian countries. Furthermore, people in countries with SARS experience are more compliant with social distancing rules. These timely attention and proactive responses of individuals and governments are more pronounced in countries that reported deaths caused by SARS, which left deeper imprints. Our findings suggest that the imprint of similar viruses’ experience is a fundamental mechanism underlying timely responses to COVID-19. This paper was accepted by Haoxiang Zhu, finance.

Abstract (sommario):
To test the inference, arising from circumstantial evidence, that Richardson's ground squirrels (Spermophilus richardsonii (Sabine, 1822)) frequently depredate eggs of greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus (Bonaparte, 1827)), gape size was measured and the response of free-living squirrels to three sizes of eggs was observed. Maximum gape measured on carcasses was 26 mm and functional gape assessed from tooth imprints in artificial clay eggs was 17 mm. Squirrels left imprints in 46 of 110 clay eggs, but whether tested with domestic fowl (Gallus gallus (L., 1758)) or ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus L., 1758) eggs that approximated the maximum width of sage-grouse eggs or with much smaller Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica Temminck and Schlegel, 1849) eggs that approximated maximum gape, no squirrels (28 adults and at least 28 juveniles) spontaneously depredated eggs, even after multiple exposures. When re-tested with damaged eggs, 15 of 16 adult females scavenged contents, though usually not on their first exposure. After scavenging damaged eggs, 2 of 12 squirrels opened a few intact eggs, but only quail eggs and usually only if the shell was rough. Although Richardson's ground squirrels are potential scavengers of large damaged eggs and likely they could depredate small eggs, the inference from circumstantial evidence that they are major predators of greater sage-grouse eggs remains unsubstantiated.

Abstract (sommario):
Grazing and trampling by the wide-ranging wild tundra reindeer may have major top down landscape effects by causing vegetation changes. Grazing, as the collective effect of eating, trampling, defecation, and urination, has been studied extensively. In contrast, trampling effects per se are rarely studied, and almost never quantified, even though considered very important. The main reason appears to be methodological; effects of trampling imprints are difficult to measure and quantify systematically. In particular, in winter reindeer may largely subsist on slow-growing ground lichens. They grow in habitats with little snow cover and extensive soil frost, and dry lichen may be particularly susceptible to trampling, generating a likely substantial forage loss.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe names Niclaes van Oldenborch and Magnus vanden Merberghe van O(e)sterhout have long presented historians of the Dutch book with a problem. They appear as imprints in two series of, mostly theological, publications in the vernacular, published respectively in the third and fourth decade of the sixteenth century and in the 1550s. Owing to the attributions of Dr Kronenberg, the distinguished expert in the field, the Van Oldenborch production swelled into a list of almost forty publications, a substantial part of the Protestant works to have been issued in the period. She was convinced of the man's historicity and continued to insist on it even after serious doubts had arisen about the accuracy of the principal piece of information on which she based her views. Further research now proves that, as had already been suggested earlier, Van Oldenborch was indeed a pseudonym, used by more than one printer in Antwerp and presumably also in Kampen. A total of seven, if not of eight, publishers adopted it at various times. Vanden Merberghe, too, was a fake imprint, but only one printer seems to have concealed his identity with it: Frans Fraet in Antwerp. Hitherto he was known exclusively for his literary work, even if he was reputed to have been executed for the publication of prohibited books in 1558. The production that actually led to so severe a sentence remained a riddle, however. The results of this research also show that nearly all the 'Van Oldenborch' publications which Dr Kronenberg regarded as post-incunabula appeared after 1540 and that a number of them can even be dated later than 1550. She placed the entire group notably too early. We can assume that this revision will be of consequence for the chronology of the Reformation in the Low Countries in so far as it depended on the diffusion of the new religious ideas in printed form.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractWe would like to know how molecular clouds turn into stellar clusters, and with what efficiency massive stars form in those clusters, since massive stars are the main agents responsible for evolution of the interstellar medium of galaxies, and their subsequent star-formation history. The imprint of ‘precluster’ molecular cloud conditions can be observed, but only in the least evolved, most embedded clusters, necessarily at wavelengths that can penetrate more than 10 visual magnitudes of extinction. Mid-infrared photometric imaging, most recently and extensively from Spitzer, can be used to select young stellar objects in clustered star-formation environments in our Galaxy and nearby galaxies. Relatively sophisticated methods have been developed, but the fundamental principle remains the selection of sources that have excess infrared emission from circumstellar dust. By fitting radiative-transfer models to a source's spectral-energy distribution between ~1 and ~100μm, we constrain the circumstellar dust distribution and evolutionary state. We can explore many things with this protostellar distribution in mass/luminosity and time/evolutionary state. For example we do not see strong evidence for primordial mass segregation in initial studies. We find evidence of primordial hierarchical substructure, greater clustering at the youngest stages, and even imprints of the pre-stellar Jeans scale. We see correlation of the youngest sources with dense molecular clumps and constrain the timescales for chemical processing and dispersal of those clumps. We have only begun to mine the wealth of existing Spitzer, emerging Herschel and soon ALMA data.

ABSTRACT The cosmic microwave background (CMB) spectrum provides tight constraints on the thermal history of the universe up to z ∼ 2 × 106. At higher redshifts, thermalization processes become very efficient so that even large energy releases do not leave visible imprints in the CMB spectrum. In this paper, we show that the consistency between the accurate determinations of the specific entropy at primordial nucleosynthesis and at the electron–photon decoupling implies that no more than 7.8 per cent of the present-day CMB energy density could have been released in the post-nucleosynthesis era. As pointed out by previous studies, primordial nucleosynthesis complements model independent constraints provided by the CMB spectrum, extending them by two orders of magnitude in redshift.

Abstract (sommario):
Phase transformations in (111) Si after spherical indentation have been investigated by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy. Even at an indentation load of 20 mN, a phase transformation zone including the high-pressure crystalline Si phases was observed within the residual imprints. The volume of the transformation zone, as well as that of the crystalline phases increased with the indentation load. Below the transformation zone, slip was found to occur on {311} planes rather than on {111} planes, usually observed on indentation of (100) Si. The distribution of defects was asymmetric, and for indentation loads up to 80 mN, their density was significantly lower than that reported for (100) Si. The experimental observations correlated well with modeling of the applied stress through ELASTICA.

Here, I briefly outline prior studies that have examined these small modern glaciers and provide details on ongoing work to better understand recent changes and future prospects.

Abstract (sommario):
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients face psychological hardship due to physical discomfort, disabilities, and anxieties. Previous research indicated a bidirectional relationship and patient desire for emotional support from providers. This study examined lesser-understood RA experiences across the psychological and social contexts in relation to self-perception through the patients’ expression of their struggles with these burdens. We conducted four semistructured focus groups and eleven interviews (total n = 31). A codebook was developed and refined through iterative transcript coding via NVivo-12. Four emerging themes were identified by inductive, thematic analysis: (1) the patients’ healthy appearances were a myth, with subthemes revealing a conflict between an inclination to hide the disease and a desire for validation, while feeling embarrassed by symptom manifestations and disappointment at withdrawal from social interactions; (2) an identity crisis due to diminished functionality, autonomy, and sense of self; (3) RA constantly occupied the mind, as its unpredictability dictated daily schedules and altered plans; and (4) the disease’s chronic nature influenced personal outlook to worry about or accept the uncertainty. Even with effective treatment, the invisibility of the disease, the fear and anticipation of flare-ups, and identity clashes caused emotional distress. The insights offer a different perspective on personalized medicine, complementing clinical treatments based on genetic or biomarker profile. For patient-centered holistic care, education is needed to prompt both patients and providers to discuss psychological issues for more customized, integrated interventions. The findings can help inform healthcare teams and families in recognizing and supporting these physical-psychological intertwined experiences, thereby ameliorating patients’ wellbeing.

Abstract. The Pelagonian zone, between the External Hellenides/Cyclades to the west and the Axios/Vardar/Almopia zone (AVAZ) and Rhodope to the east, was involved in late Early Cretaceous and in Late Cretaceous-Eocene orogenic events whose duration are still controversial. This work constrains their late thermal imprints. New and previously published zircon (ZFT) and apatite (AFT) fission-track ages show cooling below 240°C of the metamorphic western AVAZ imbricates between 102 and 93–90 Ma, of northern Pelagonia between 86 and 68 Ma, of the eastern AVAZ at 80 Ma and of western Rhodope at 72 Ma. At the regional scale, this heterogeneous cooling is coeval with subsidence of Late Cretaceous marine basin(s) that unconformably covered since 100 Ma the Early Cretaceous (130–110 Ma) thrust system. Thrusting restarted at 70 Ma in the AVAZ and migrated across Pelagonia to reach the External Hellenides at 40–38 Ma. Renewed thrusting in Pelagonia is attested at 68 Ma by abrupt and rapid cooling below 240°C and erosion of the basement rocks. ZFT and AFT in western and eastern Pelagonia, respectively, set at 40 Ma the latest thermal imprint related to thrusting. Central-eastern Pelagonia cooled rapidly and uniformly from 240 to 80°C between 24 and 16 Ma in the footwall of a major extensional fault. Extension started even earlier, at 33 Ma in the western AVAZ. Post-7 Ma rapid cooling is inferred from inverse modeling of AFT lengths. It occurred while E–W normal faults were cutting Pliocene-to-recent sediment.

Abstract (sommario):
Hydrocolloids were the first elastic materials to be used in the dental field. Elastic impression materials include reversible (agar-agar), irreversible (alginate) hydrocolloids and synthetic elastomers (polysulfides, polyethers, silicones). They reproduce an imprint faithfully, providing details of a high definition despite the presence of undercuts. With the removal of the impression, being particularly rich in water, the imprints can deform but later adapt to the original shape due to the elastic properties they possess. The advantages of using alginate include the low cost, a better tolerability on the part of the patient, the ease of manipulation, the short time needed for execution, the instrumentation and the very simple execution technique and possibility of detecting a detailed impression (even in the presence of undercuts) in a single step. A comprehensive review of the current literature was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines by accessing the NCBI PubMed database. Authors conducted a search of articles in written in English published from 2008 to 2018. All the relevant studies were included in the search with respect to the characteristics and evolution of new marine derived materials. Much progress has been made in the search for new marine derived materials. Conventional impression materials are different, and especially with the advent of digital technology, they have been suffering from a decline in research attention over the last few years. However, this type of impression material, alginates (derived from marine algae), have the advantage of being among the most used in the dental medical field.

Abstract (sommario):
The notion of the perinatal „hormonal imprinting” has been published at first in 1980 and since that time it spred expansively. The imprintig develops at the first encounter between the developing receptor and the target hormone – possibly by the alteration of the methylation pattern of DNA – and it is transmitted to the progeny generations of the cell. This is needed for the complete development of the receptor’s binding capacity. However, molecules similar to the target hormone (hormone-analogues, drugs, chemicals, environmental pollutants) can also bind to the developing receptor, causing faulty imprinting with life-long consequences. This can promote pathological conditions. Later it was cleared that in other critical periods such as puberty, imprinting also can be provoked, even in any age in differentiating cells. The central nervous system (brain) also can be mistakenly imprinted, which durably influences the dopaminergic, serotonergic and noradrenergic system and this can be manifested – in animal experiments – in alterations of the sexual and social behavior. In our modern age the faulty hormonal imprintig is inavoidable because of the mass of medicaments, chemicals, the presence of hormone-like materials (e.g. soya phytosteroids) in the food, and environmental pollutants. The author especially emphasizes the danger of oxytocin, as a perinatal imprinter, as it is used very broadly and can basically influence the emotional and social spheres and the appearance of certain diseases such as auitism, schizophrenia and parkinsonism. The danger of perinatal imprinters is growing, considering their effects on the human evolution. Orv. Hetil., 2013, 154, 128–135.

Abstract (sommario):
S-matrix formulation of gravity excludes de Sitter vacua. In particular, this is organic to string theory. The S-matrix constraint is enforced by an anomalous quantum break-time proportional to the inverse values of gravitational and/or string couplings. Due to this, de Sitter can satisfy the conditions for a valid vacuum only at the expense of trivializing the graviton and closed-string S-matrices. At non-zero gravitational and string couplings, de Sitter is deformed by corpuscular 1/N effects, similarly to Witten–Veneziano mechanism in QCD with N colors. In this picture, an S-matrix formulation of Einstein gravity, such as string theory, nullifies an outstanding cosmological puzzle. We discuss possible observational signatures which are especially interesting in theories with a large number of particle species. Species can enhance the primordial quantum imprints to potentially observable level even if the standard inflaton fluctuations are negligible.

Abstract (sommario):
Krk Island located in the Dinaric karst is characterized by somewhat contradictory, yet undefined depressions of linear geometry. A comprehensive spatial analysis considering over 900 linear features served as a testing ground for revealing the specific circumstances required for the occurrence of the linear morphology on the surface of rather pure karst typically characterized by dolines. Morphological characteristics, spatial distribution and field evidence imply that linear features of different appearance are the outcome of several different mechanisms including speleogenesis and denudation, slope processes and erosion by the torrential surface runoff. Surface runoff occurred due to specific regional geological, morphological and climate conditions in the area. Recently, such linear features exhibit a dry valley- or dry gorge-like appearance. This example from the Dinarides provides insight into the possible circumstances that may cause a temporal surface runoff even in rather pure karst conditions. This knowledge is valuable for understanding other karst areas expressing temporal surface runoff or imprints of its past occurrences.

Abstract (sommario):
Plants differ from animals in their capability to easily regenerate fertile adult individuals from terminally differentiated cells. This unique developmental plasticity is commonly observed in nature, where many species can reproduce asexually through the ectopic initiation of organogenic or embryogenic developmental programs. While organ-specific epigenetic marks are not passed on during sexual reproduction, the fate of epigenetic marks during asexual reproduction and the implications for clonal progeny remain unclear. Here we report that organ-specific epigenetic imprints in Arabidopsis thaliana can be partially maintained during asexual propagation from somatic cells in which a zygotic program is artificially induced. The altered marks are inherited even over multiple rounds of sexual reproduction, becoming fixed in hybrids and resulting in heritable molecular and physiological phenotypes that depend on the identity of the founder tissue. Consequently, clonal plants display distinct interactions with beneficial and pathogenic microorganisms. Our results demonstrate how novel phenotypic variation in plants can be unlocked through altered inheritance of epigenetic marks upon asexual propagation.

†Tunguskagyrus, a Late Permian beetle fossil, was assigned to the adephagan family Gyrinidae in the original description. This placement was challenged in a recent study, where the genus was considered as part of a broad new concept of the extinct family †Triaplidae and transferred from Adephaga to Archostemata. Even though some structural features deviate from the typical pattern found in extant Gyrinidae, we maintain the placement of †Tunguskagyrus in the stemgroup of this family as the most plausibe interpretation. The suggested taxonomic changes concerning †Triaplidae (and †Schizophoroidea) are invalidated by an insufficient phylogenetic approach and several misinterpretations of the fossil imprints. The arguments are based on 1) general habitual similarity, 2) ubiquitous characters, 3) plesiomorphies, or 4) apomorphic conditions (compared to the Coleopteran groundplan) occurring in many beetle groups, strongly affected by homoplasy. The taxonomic shift of †Tunguskagyrus and the new concept of †Schizophoroidea and †Triaplidae are discarded due to the lack of a defined phylogenetic methodology and synapomorphies.

AbstractScattered throughout the realm in a great number of provincial courts, Ming imperial clansmen did not wield political or military power. Some among them therefore used their energies to publish books; indeed, the publishing activities of the Ming princes constitute one of many elements of what can be termed “princely culture.” Even though princely imprints formed an insignificant proportion of Ming publications, a large number of them have survived to our day. Based on the examination of approximately 240 such editions, this essay explores the relationships between the princes and the literati who assisted them. It raises questions central to princely publishing: How learned were the princes? What books did they publish? For which audiences and with what objectives? What are the main characteristics of princely publications? Did princes have well-defined publishing strategies? The last section of the essay addresses the heritage of Ming princely publications in the Qing dynasty. This essay will be published in several installments in East Asian Publishing and Society.

Abstract (sommario):
Motivated by the fact that cosmological perturbations of inflationary quantum origin were born Gaussian, the search for non-Gaussianities in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies is considered as the privileged probe of nonlinear physics in the early universe. Cosmic strings are active sources of gravitational perturbations and incessantly produce non-Gaussian distortions in the CMB. Even if, on the currently observed angular scales, they can only contribute a small fraction of the CMB angular power spectrum, cosmic strings could actually be the main source of its non-Gaussianities. In this paper, after having reviewed the basic cosmological properties of a string network, we present the signatures Nambu-Goto cosmic strings would induce in various observables ranging from the one-point function of the temperature anisotropies to the bispectrum and trispectrum. It is shown that string imprints are significantly different than those expected from the primordial type of non-Gaussianity and could therefore be easily distinguished.

Abstract (sommario):
Aligarh Movement can rightly be considered as the torchbearer of modern trends in Urdu literature as it introduced new trends in Urdu literature hitherto non-existent therein. The efforts of the exponents of the movement expanded the horizons of Urdu literature beyond poetry that too, in the past, was limited only to the praise of the beloved; it enabled Urdu literature to open up its folds to embrace new realities of life, thus paving the way for a utilitarian view of literature. It is justifiably credited with for laying the founding stone for new movements in Urdu Literature like Romanticism, Progressive Movement, and Halqa Arbab-e-Zauq. This movement is so prolific and holistic in its nature that it lefts imprints on every field of Urdu Literature and even after the lapse of more than 150 years, it is still relevant while finding out historic and literary genesis of various trends in Urdu literature.

Abstract (sommario):
Trauma occurs when individuals or groups encounter a horrific experience that leads to enduring imprints on their consciousness and memory, and results in a crucial alteration in how they perceive their identity, social surrounding, and even their future. The concept of trauma is firmly connected to war, conflict, and forced migration. Refugees face catastrophic life events when everything breaks apart. In recent years, there has been an increased interest in exploring trauma from different approaches, including sociological ones. Therefore, this article aims to review, explore, and analyze the concepts of cultural trauma, collective identity, and social trauma regarding the issue of refugees’ forced migration. The first part of the study focuses on reviewing related literature on cultural trauma and collective identity. Then, I investigate the concept of social trauma by considering forced migration, the host communities, the identity of forced migrants, and the role of the carrier groups. In this way, I attempt to present a comprehensive analysis of forced displacement from a sociocultural perspective.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT We have used hydrodynamical simulations to model the formation of the closest giant elliptical galaxy Centaurus A. We find that a single major merger event with a mass ratio of up to 1.5, and which has happened ∼2 Gyr ago, is able to reproduce many of its properties, including galaxy kinematics, the inner gas disc, stellar halo ages and metallicities, and numerous faint features observed in the halo. The elongated halo shape is mostly made of progenitor residuals deposited by the merger, which also contribute to stellar shells observed in the Centaurus A halo. The current model also reproduces the measured planetary nebula line-of-sight velocity and their velocity dispersion. Models with a small mass ratio and relatively low gas fraction result in a de Vaucouleurs profile distribution, which is consistent with observations and model expectations. A recent merger left imprints in the age distribution that are consistent with the young stellar and globular cluster populations (2–4 Gyr) found within the halo. We conclude that even if not all properties of Centaurus A have been accurately reproduced, a recent major merger has likely occurred to form the Centaurus A galaxy as we observe it at present day.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. Neutral interstellar helium atoms penetrate into the solar system almost unaffected by gas–plasma interactions in the heliospheric interface region, and thus can be considered as carriers of original information on the basic parameters (like density, temperature, bulk velocity) of the Very Local Interstellar Medium (VLISM). Such information can nowadays be derived from analysis of data obtained from different experimental methods: in situ measurements of He atoms (Ulysses), observations of the solar backscattered He 584 A radiation (EUVE), in situ measurements of He + pickup ions (AMPTE, Ulysses, Wind, SOHO, ACE). In view of the current coordinated international ISSI campaign devoted to the study of the helium focusing cone structure and its evolution, we analyze expected variations of neutral He density, of He + pickup fluxes and of their phase space distributions at various phases of the solar activity cycle based on a realistic time-dependent modelling of the neutral helium and He + pickup ion distributions, which reflect solar cycle-induced variations of the photoionization rate. We show that the neutral helium density values are generally anticorrelated with the solar activity phase and in extreme cases (near the downwind axis) the maximum-to-minimum density ratio may even exceed factors of ~ 3 at 1 AU. We also demonstrate that in the upwind hemisphere (at 1 AU and beyond) the He + fluxes are correlated with the solar cycle activity, whereas on the downwind side the maximum of the expected flux up to distances of ~ 3 AU occurs around solar minimum epoch, and only further away does the correlation with solar activity become positive. Finally, we present the response of the phase space distribution spectra of He + pickup ions (in the solar wind frame) for different epochs of the solar cycle and heliocentric distances from 1 to 5 AU covering the range of Ulysses, Wind and ACE observations.Key words. Abstract (sommario):
In the framework of the nonlinear Λ model, propagation of solitons was analysed in atomic vapours and Bose–Einstein condensates. The complicated nonlinear interplay between fast and slow-light solitons in a Λ -type medium was shown to facilitate control of its optical transparency and formation of optical gates. An exact analytical description was given for the deceleration, stopping and revival of slow-light solitons in the experimentally relevant non-adiabatic regime. A stopping slow-light soliton imprints a localized immobile polarization pattern in the medium, which, as explicitly demonstrated here, can be used as a bit of readable optical memory. The whole process can be controlled with the background field and an auxiliary laser field. The latter regulates the signal velocity, while the slow-light soliton can be stopped by switching off the former. The location and shape of the imprinted memory bit were also determined. With few assumptions characteristic of slow light, the Λ model was reduced to a simpler nonlinear model that also describes two-dimensional dilatonic gravity. Exact solutions could now be derived also in the presence of relaxation. Spontaneous decay of the upper atomic level was found to be strongly suppressed, and the spatial form of the decelerating slow-light soliton was preserved, even if the optical relaxation time was much shorter than the typical time scale of the soliton. The effective relaxation coefficient of the slow-light soliton was significantly smaller than that of an arbitrary optical pulse. Such features are obviously of great importance when this kind of system is applied, in practice, to information processing. A number of experimentally observable properties of the solutions reported were found to be in good agreement with recent experimental results, and a few suggestions are also made for future experiments.

Abstract (sommario):
The social structure of every nation is primarily built upon the hierarchal basis under the classification of specific criteria on either ground of earning, job, place, lifestyle etc. It is unavoidable to accept that the social structure rolls along with the time making people from every level of the hierarchal pyramid to cross their boundaries breaking the stereotypes to induce themselves from the holding back position of stag to push them through possible uplift, especially every community that has some or other upon to command them for. Colonial times across the world made this preexisting hierarchal variation more predominant with oriental touch of brutal approach, leaving back its severe imprints even after their retirement. India is not exception from the form and one such brutality left back is the life imposed on Denotified Communities of India through law. This paper attempts to probe through the social psyche of hierarchy with reference to Budhan: A Play by Denotified, serving dual contribution to the social norms and role of art in it.

Abstract (sommario):
Scanning electron microscopy shows that the quill surface from the thin-spined porcupine (Chaetomys subspinosus (Olfers, 1818)) has several regional cuticular patterns of which the most expansive is highly pitted with 4 μm wide pores leading to pits, which in turn communicate circumferentially via tunnels to neighboring pits. The cell unit of the pitted layer is a hexagonal or pentagonal prism, the “pitted fibrillous cuticular cell” (PFCC), which has a superficial pitted cuticular scale derived part with an underlying part packed with fine fibrils and the nucleus. The scaled part has about six scales, which swell and fuse except where raised cuticular scales from the inner root sheath intervene. This unique and complicated cell soon dies even while below the skin’s surface during its development. The raised scale-bearing cells of the inner root sheath leave their imprints on the PFCC’s surface, thus indicating that the quill’s pitted layer is at one time soft. Histochemistry, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry show that the PFCC is keratinous.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: To present the cytological features of a very rare and lethal ovarian neoplasm occurring in the young. Study Design: We reviewed the cytological findings as they presented in touch imprints obtained from an ovarian mass sent to our department for frozen section investigation. Results: Smears were highly cellular. The cells were of intermediate size with a moderate amount of microvacuolated, pale, or eosinophilic cytoplasm with indistinct cell borders. The nuclei were of round or oval shape with mild to moderate atypia and indistinct nucleoli. Conclusions: The diagnosis of small cell carcinoma of the ovary can be challenging even histologically. Cytology can be an invaluable adjunct to hematoxylin-eosin sections both pre- or intraoperatively. Although it is a very rare occurrence and cytological results are almost absent in the literature, our case can make cytopathologists more acquainted with the cytological features of this rare tumor entity especially in association with a characteristic clinical profile. Furthermore, the cytological features of small cell carcinoma of the ovary, large cell variant, have only rarely been described in the literature.

Abstract (sommario):
Presented in the form of an acrostic, the text offers six entries ( Nagori, Amateur, Genshiken, Obtuse, Rhythm, and Interstice). It begins with the Japanese term nagori, the etymology of which is in nami-nokori, ‘remains of the waves’, to refer to the ephemeral imprints left by the waves as they withdraw from the beach. The modern word nagori carries a more general sense of resignation, of a destiny that cannot be changed, of things that pass. The opening entry, for example, refers to our present time as the nagori of photography – as being ‘everywhere’ even before being shattered and scattered by the internet, by social media and cameras in mobile phones. Underlying the six entries is specific reference to the work of Roland Barthes, notably as a form of writing with Barthes, not about him. As such, and as the final contribution to a special issue of Theory, Culture & Society, ‘Neutral Life/Late Barthes’, this opens up for the ‘reader’ a specific practice and politics of writing.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT More and more observations indicate that young star clusters could retain imprints of their formation process. In particular, the degree of substructuring and rotation are possibly the direct result of the collapse of the parent molecular cloud from which these systems form. Such properties can, in principle, be washed-out, but they are also expected to have an impact on the relaxation of these systems. We ran and analysed a set of 10 hydrodynamical simulations of the formation of embedded star clusters through the collapse of turbulent massive molecular clouds. We systematically studied the fractality of our star clusters, showing that they are all extremely substructured (fractal dimension D = 1.0–1.8). We also found that fractality is slowly reduced, with time, on small scales, while it persists on large scales on longer time-scales. Signatures of rotation are found in different simulations at every time of the evolution, even for slightly supervirial substructures, proving that the parent molecular gas transfers part of its angular momentum to the new stellar systems.

Abstract (sommario):
In recent years, we have witnessed a significant increase in writing by scholars and literary and cultural critics on the genre of the comic book, corresponding to an increased legitimacy given to the comic book industry and its writers and artists more generally. Part of this phenomenon no doubt stems from the attention lavished on the field by mainstream fiction and nonfiction writers who consider comic books a central part of their own and America’s cultural heritage, such as Michael Chabon and Jonathan Lethem. It may also stem from the changing nature of the industry’s finances, which now employ a “star system” revolving around writers and artists, not merely the major companies’ storied characters; though the days of the big houses that control the major characters are by no means gone, in the last two decades, numerous specialty imprints have been developed to publish characters that are owned outright by writers and artists, to say nothing of profit-sharing deals with major stars, even at some of the major companies.

Abstract (sommario):
The bibliography for the whole essay will be published with the last installment.
