In the last few years, new information and communication technology has made information easily accessible. At the same time, information has become a strategic raw material that political actors seek to master in order to gain competitive advantages. In parallel, artificial intelligence and virtual reality have started to revolutionize the forms and the modes of political communication. Therefore, in this thesis, we studied how French and German political candidates and parties use big data, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality during political campaigns. Based on mixed research during the 2021 German federal election and 2022 French presidential elections. We found that political campaigns in France are more dynamic, aggressive and diverse than German political campaigns. We also found that French political candidates and parties are more creative and innovative in terms of using big data, artificial intelligence and virtual reality in political campaigns than German political candidates and parties. Despite the progress of professionalized campaigning in both countries, the use of big data, artificial intelligence and virtual reality in political campaigns until now weak and not perfect

The action-oriented approach which has been institutionalised by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is also called “the new methodology in the teaching and learning of languages”. It is widely used, both for official and for research purposes. This thesis aims to test and question the construction of understanding of this methodology both in France (the Educational Authority of Lille) and in Germany (Land Hessen, Land Nordrhein-Westfalen) by looking at the practices and discourses of primary school teachers (écoles élémentaires and Grundschule) through the concepts of both the intercultural and independent approaches. These notions, as well as being cornerstones constructed by and for the research, are defined by interrelation and questioned with a reflexive and critical mind-set. They are especially debated in opposition to the reifying culturalist approach. These notions strain against the official requirements and the beliefs of the teachers with whom I collaborated on this project. The research is based on the intersection of much empirical data from both France as well as Germany, for example: focus groups with teachers, observation of foreign language lessons, interviews with the teachers, literature detailing official requirements (language syllabuses) and literature detailing recommendations (the online training packages of Pairform@nce and Intel Lehren Aufbaukurs Online). The discourses, which have been placed into context, are analysed with regards to the theories of enunciation and dialogism. The thesis offers a critical perspective of comparative differentialist visions, yet allows a visualisation of the results that enhance the Franco-German diversities in order to build an understanding of the research objective
Meyer, Jean-Christophe. "L'offre de football télévisé et sa réception par la presse en France et en RFA (1950-1966) : l'édification du "Grand stade", vecteur d'identité nationale et européenne". Thesis, Strasbourg, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012STRAA026.
Covering a period of 16 years starting back in 1950 our comparative study aims to stress a peculiar aspect of the history of sports media coverage in France and Germany: the evolution of television football programs and their reception by the press during this first phase of edification of the “Great Stadium”. We have primarily explored in what measure these programs played the part of a conveyor for national and European identity. The comparative approach between France and Germany pleaded in favor of analyzing principles and forces involved in the national and international governance of football and television. We first focused on the sports press and the magazines dealing with television programs since they are liable to be essentially concerned by the observed phenomenon. The analysis of the evolution of the relationships involving institutional actors in this sector is a crucial aspect of our study. The study of the supplied programs and of the rites tied with a growing consumption of television football shows is not less important. It provoked the publication of numerous contemporary opinions in the so-called popular press of both countries. These opinions sustained professional or profane theories on football broadcasting that had a lasting pertinence for some of them. Others were soon invalidated by the swift evolution of technology, of the institutional environment and regulations or by the apparition of new competitions like the European Champions’ Cup or the European Nations’ Championship. It was important to stress how a “national culture” emerged and persisted on both sides of the Rhine River during those years as far as football broadcasting is concerned. It was also important to examine how the foundation of EBU, of UEFA and the launching of diverse European competitions led to the creation, to the extension and to the establishment of a “popular” European cultural space tied with football

During the last years, the concept of intercultural competence has developed into becoming a very important key term. Whether it is in the area of education at school or at university, or in the area of professional training of employees in international companies: intercultural competence is often described as key term of the 21st century.Given the advancing globalization and the expansion of international markets towards Asian and South-American regions, our European neighbours may sometimes be left aside in discussions about interculturality. The present thesis focuses on the following two countries: France and Germany. With regard to the Franco-German dialogue and exchange, we observe that these two aspects are sometimes complicated by cultural differences. The present empirical study will analyze in which way and to which extend intercultural competence influences the relations between French and German universities. The empirical study has been conducted as an online survey with 1131 participants. The target group consisted of the following groups: students, doctoral candidates, professors and researchers as well as employees of French and German universities and grandes écoles. The evaluation of the data reveals very significant results with regard to the status quo of the relations between French and German universities. The multiple analyses showed positive aspects, for example a very high mutual interest of the French and Germans for the Franco-German relations, as well as negative aspects, such as a very high rate of intercultural misapprehensions in the Franco-German context. The results of the study offer a basis from which an improvement of the cooperation between French and German universities and intercultural competence in the Franco-German context could be accomplished

This research work deals with the reasons why French students do not choose to learn Germanand tries to find out what makes the German language unattractive. Thus one tackles thequestion of promoting German among young pupils. Despite of linguistic needs and closerelationships between France and Germany, the number of pupils studying German hasconstantly decreased for twenty years. The loss of affection of French students for learning thelanguage of France privileged partner constitutes a fundamental paradox. The study focuses on the official statements and the actions put in place to support the learningof German to estimate the impact of the rhetoric of promotion on high school students. A surveyhas been conducted among 579 teachers, high school students studying German, their parentsand high school students studying Spanish in the “académie” of Orléans-Tours (Educationaldistrict). Comprehensive, quantitative and qualitative analysis reveals: a) the lack ofinformation on Germany; b) negative feelings associated with Germany; c) the mechanism ofthe non-choice of German to the benefit of Spanish. The research work concludes that: a) learning German suffers from Germany's poor imageamong young people; b) the survival of negative representations influences the linguisticchoice; c) the Franco-German understanding in the civil society is a misunderstanding; d) theintergenerational transmission of the national trauma of past conflicts is an inhibiting factor; e)the influence of emotions is underestimated in the mechanism of the choice of a foreignlanguage. The pupils’ way of thinking about Germany, its language and culture is not anecdotalbut rather representative of their choice to study other languages. Formal knowledge interactswith informal knowledge they get from their family, society and media environment to thedetriment of choosing German.Between objective reasons and affection, research avenues are proposed to take the heat outof the choice of the “hereditary friend’s” language. Therefore, taking into account emotionalfactors and intercultural support, French students should overcome symbolic psycho-emotional,socio-cultural, collective and personal boundaries
Patane, Valérie. "Wahrnehmung der deutschen und französischen Großwohnsiedlungen durch ihre Einwohner : ein soziologischer und kultureller Vergleich". Thesis, Strasbourg, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019STRAC027.
The central subject of this thesis is the perception of French and German council estates (ie. “Großwohnsiedlungen” in German, “grands ensembles“ in French) among the residents. This study is the result of a four month participant observation and 50 semi-structured interviews have been conducted in Le Val d’Argent near Paris and Gropiusstadt in Berlin. During the interviews the inhabitants have been asked about the self-perception and the representation they have of the prevalent media depiction. For a better comprehension of the territorial representations we compared the statements of the inhabitants from both countries. After analysing these data we came to the conclusion that the image of French banlieues is more problematic than the German one because of macro-societal differences between France and Germany in the perceptions of citizenship, nation and multi-culturalism
