Dans le contexte des environnements urbains modernes et densément peuplés, la gestion efficace des transports et la structure des Systèmes de Transport Intelligents (STI) sont primordiales. Le secteur des transports publics connaît actuellement une expansion et une transformation significatives dans le but d'améliorer l'accessibilité, d'accommoder des volumes de passagers plus importants sans compromettre la qualité des déplacements, et d'adopter des pratiques respectueuses de l'environnement et durables. Les avancées technologiques, notamment dans l'Intelligence Artificielle (IA), l'Analyse de Données Massives (BDA), et les Capteurs Avancés (CA), ont joué un rôle essentiel dans la réalisation de ces objectifs et ont contribué au développement, à l'amélioration et à l'expansion des Systèmes de Transport Intelligents. Cette thèse aborde deux défis critiques dans le domaine des villes intelligentes, se concentrant spécifiquement sur l'identification des modes de transport utilisés par les citoyens à un moment donné et sur l'estimation et la prédiction du flux de transport au sein de divers systèmes de transport. Dans le contexte du premier défi, deux approches distinctes ont été développées pour la Détection des Modes de Transport. Tout d'abord, une approche d'apprentissage approfondi pour l'identification de huit médias de transport est proposée, utilisant des données de capteurs multimodaux collectées à partir des smartphones des utilisateurs. Cette approche est basée sur un réseau Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) et une optimisation bayésienne des paramètres du modèle. À travers une évaluation expérimentale approfondie, l'approche proposée démontre des taux de reconnaissance remarquablement élevés par rapport à diverses approches d'apprentissage automatique, y compris des méthodes de pointe. La thèse aborde également des problèmes liés à la corrélation des caractéristiques et à l'impact de la réduction de la dimensionnalité. La deuxième approche implique un modèle basé sur un transformateur pour la détection des modes de transport appelé TMD-BERT. Ce modèle traite l'ensemble de la séquence de données, comprend l'importance de chaque partie de la séquence d'entrée, et attribue des poids en conséquence en utilisant des mécanismes d'attention pour saisir les dépendances globales dans la séquence. Les évaluations expérimentales mettent en évidence les performances exceptionnelles du modèle par rapport aux méthodes de pointe, soulignant sa haute précision de prédiction. Pour relever le défi de l'estimation du flux de transport, un Réseau Convolutif Temporel et Spatial (ST-GCN) est proposé. Ce réseau apprend à la fois des données spatiales du réseau de stations et des séries temporelles des changements de mobilité historiques pour prédire le flux de métro urbain et le partage de vélos à un moment futur. Le modèle combine des Réseaux Convolutifs Graphiques (GCN) et des Réseaux Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) pour améliorer la précision de l'estimation. Des expériences approfondies menées sur des ensembles de données du monde réel du système de métro de Hangzhou et du système de partage de vélos de la ville de New York valident l'efficacité du modèle proposé, démontrant sa capacité à identifier des corrélations spatiales dynamiques entre les stations et à faire des prévisions précises à long terme In the context of modern, densely populated urban environments, the effective management of transportation and the structure of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs) are paramount. The public transportation sector is currently undergoing a significant expansion and transformation with the objective of enhancing accessibility, accommodating larger passenger volumes without compromising travel quality, and embracing environmentally conscious and sustainable practices. Technological advancements, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics (BDA), and Advanced Sensors (AS), have played a pivotal role in achieving these goals and contributing to the development, enhancement, and expansion of Intelligent Transportation Systems. This thesis addresses two critical challenges within the realm of smart cities, specifically focusing on the identification of transportation modes utilized by citizens at any given moment and the estimation and prediction of transportation flow within diverse transportation systems. In the context of the first challenge, two distinct approaches have been developed for Transportation Mode Detection. Firstly, a deep learning approach for the identification of eight transportation media is proposed, utilizing multimodal sensor data collected from user smartphones. This approach is based on a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network and Bayesian optimization of model’s parameters. Through extensive experimental evaluation, the proposed approach demonstrates remarkably high recognition rates compared to a variety of machine learning approaches, including state-of-the-art methods. The thesis also delves into issues related to feature correlation and the impact of dimensionality reduction. The second approach involves a transformer-based model for transportation mode detection named TMD-BERT. This model processes the entire sequence of data, comprehends the importance of each part of the input sequence, and assigns weights accordingly using attention mechanisms to grasp global dependencies in the sequence. Experimental evaluations showcase the model's exceptional performance compared to state-of-the-art methods, highlighting its high prediction accuracy. In addressing the challenge of transportation flow estimation, a Spatial-Temporal Graph Convolutional Recurrent Network is proposed. This network learns from both the spatial stations network data and time-series of historical mobility changes to predict urban metro and bike sharing flow at a future time. The model combines Graph Convolutional Networks (GCN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Networks to enhance estimation accuracy. Extensive experiments conducted on real-world datasets from the Hangzhou metro system and the NY City bike sharing system validate the effectiveness of the proposed model, showcasing its ability to identify dynamic spatial correlations between stations and make accurate long-term forecasts

La recherche concernant les voitures autonomes a fortement progressé ces dernières décennies, en se concentrant particulièrement sur l'analyse de l'environnement extérieur et sur les tâches liées à la conduite. Cela a permis une importante croissance de l'autonomie des véhicules particuliers. Dans ce nouveau contexte, il peut être pertinent de s'intéresser aux passagers de ces véhicules autonomes afin d'étudier le comportement de ces derniers face à cette révolution du moyen de transport. C'est pour approfondir ces thématiques que le projet région AURA AutoBehave a été mis en place. Ce projet réunit plusieurs laboratoires menant des recherches dans différentes disciplines scientifiques liées à cette thématique telles que la vision par ordinateur, la biomécanique, les émotions ou encore l'économie des transports. Cette thèse menée au laboratoire LIRIS s'inscrit donc dans ce projet, dans laquelle nous nous intéressons aux méthodes d'estimation de poses humaines des passagers par apprentissage profond. Nous avons d'abord étudié les solutions de l'état de l'art, et avons développé un jeu de données ainsi qu'une métrique plus adaptée aux contraintes de notre contexte. Nous nous sommes également intéressés à la visibilité des points afin d'aider l'estimation de la pose. Par la suite, nous nous sommes attaqués à la problématique de généralisation de domaine pour l'estimation de poses dans le but de proposer une solution efficace dans des conditions inconnues. Ainsi, nous nous sommes intéressés à la génération de données synthétiques de passagers pour l'estimation de poses afin de combler le manque de jeux de données annotés disponibles dans notre contexte. Nous avons étudié l'application de réseaux génératifs ainsi que de méthodes modélisation 3D à notre problématique. Nous nous sommes appuyés sur ces données pour proposer différentes stratégies d'entraînement et deux nouvelles architectures. L'approche par fusion proposée associée aux stratégies d'entraînement permet de tirer profit de jeux de données génériques et de jeux de données spécifiques, afin d'améliorer les capacités de généralisation des méthodes d'estimation de poses à l'intérieur d'une voiture, en particulier sur le bas du corps Research into autonomous cars has made great strides in recent decades, focusing particularly on analysis of the external environment and driving-related tasks. This has led to a significant increase in the autonomy of private vehicles. In this new context, it may be relevant to take an interest in the passengers of these autonomous vehicles, to study their behavior in the face of this revolution in the means of transport. The AURA AutoBehave project has been set up to explore these issues in greater depth. This project brings together several laboratories conducting research in different scientific disciplines linked to this theme, such as computer vision, biomechanics, emotions, and transport economics. This thesis carried out at the LIRIS laboratory is part of this project, in which we focus on methods for estimating the human poses of passengers using deep learning. We first looked at state-of-the-art solutions and developed both a dataset and a metric better suited to the constraints of our context. We also studied the visibility of the keypoints to help estimate the pose. We then tackled the problem of domain generalisation for pose estimation to propose an efficient solution under unknown conditions. Thus, we focused on the generation of synthetic passenger data for pose estimation. Among other things, we studied the application of generative networks and 3D modeling methods to our problem. We have used this data to propose different training strategies and two new network architectures. The proposed fusion approach associated with the training strategies makes it possible to take advantage of both generic and specific datasets, to improve the generalisation capabilities of pose estimation methods inside a car, particularly on the lower body

Abstract (sommario):

A gradient-independent model of gas fluxes was formulated and tested. The model is built on the relationship between gas flux and the time history of surface gas concentration, known as half-order derivative (HOD), when the transport of the gas in the boundary layer is described by a diffusion equation. The eddy-diffusivity of gas is parameterized based on the similarity theory of boundary layer turbulence combined with the MEP model of surface heat fluxes. Test of the new model using in-situ data of CO2 concentration and fluxes at several locations with diverse vegetation cover, geographic and climatic conditions confirms its usefulness and potential for monitoring and modeling greenhouse gases. The proposed model may also be used for estimating other GHGS fluxes such as methane (CH4) and Water vapor flux. This proof-of-concept study justifies the proposed model as a practical solution for monitoring and modeling global GHGS budget over remote areas and oceans where ground observations of GHGS fluxes are limited or non-existent. One focus of the on-going research is to investigate its application to producing regional and global distributions of carbon fluxes for identifying sinks and sources of carbon and re-evaluating the regional and global carbon budget at monthly and annual time scales.

The National Aeronautics and Space Agency NASA's Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) platform carried by Terra and Aqua satellites, is providing systematic measurements summarized in high quality, consistent and well-calibrated satellite images and datasets ranging from reflectance in the visible and near infrared bands to estimates of leaf area index, vegetation indices and biome productivity. The objective of this research was to relate the spectral responses and derived MODIS products of ecosystems, to biogeochemical processes and trends in their physiological variables. When different sources of data were compared, discrepancies between the MODIS variables and the corresponding ground measurements were evident. Uncertainties in the input variables of MODIS products algorithms, effects of cloud cover at the studied pixel, estimation algorithm, and local variation in land cover type are considered as the cause. A simple "continuous field" model based on a physiologically-driven spectral index using two ocean-color bands of MODIS satellite sensor showed great potential to track seasonally changing photosynthetic light use efficiency and stress-induced reduction in net primary productivity of terrestrial vegetation. The model explained 88% of the variability in Flux tower-based daily Net Primary Productivity. Also a high correlation between midday gross CO2 exchange with both daily and 8-day mean gross CO2 exchange, consistent across all the studied vegetation types, was found. Although it may not be possible to estimate 8-day mean Light Use Efficiency reliably from satellite data, Light Use Efficiency models may still be useful for estimation of midday values of gross CO2 exchange which could then be related to longer term means of CO2 exchange. In addition, the MODIS enhanced vegetation index shows a high potential for estimation of ecosystem gross primary production, using respiration values from MODIS surface temperature, providing truly per-pixel estimates. Abstract (sommario):

A series of energy-balance experiments were performed over a winter wheat field in Southern Arizona. A Bowen ratio energy-balance system (BREB), anemometer, and thermal infrared thermometer (IRT) were placed in the center of the field on day 15 of 1988 shortly after germination. The BREB system generated 12-minute averages of net radiation, soil heat flux, latent energy, and sensible heat flux (H) throughout the season, terminating on day 152, just before harvest. On day 134, an eddy-correlation system was placed adjacent to the BREB system, where it collected H-data concurrently for 17 successive days. The data from the BREB and eddy-correlation systems were regressed against each other to quantify their field performance. The regression standard error (SE) between the two systems was ±40 W/m². BREB H-data was used as a "standard" to evaluate three different sensible heat flux models that are suitable for remote sensing applications. The three models require thermal canopy temperature, air temperature, and wind speed as input. Two of the three models use aerodynamic resistance theory, one of which is stability corrected, and the third remote-sensing model employs Monin-Obukhov turbulent transfer theory. The regression analysis between the BREB H-values and the three remote-sensing models shows that the stability corrected aerodynamic resistance model and the Monin-Obukhov model are capable of estimating H-values over a wide range of surface and atmospheric conditions.

Sensible heat flux, a key component of the surface energy balance, is difficult to estimate in practice. This study was conducted to see if backpropagation neural networks could estimate sensible heat flux by using horizontal wind speed, air temperature, radiometric surface temperature, net radiation, and time as input. Ground measurements from the First ISLSCP (International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project) Field Experiment (FIFE), collected in 1987 and 1989 over a prairie grassland in Kansas, were used for network training and validation. Networks trained on part of the data from a narrow range of space-time coordinates performed well over the other part, with error (root mean square error divided by mean of observations) values as low as 0.24. This indicates the potential in neural networks for linking sensible heat flux to routinely measured meteorological variables and variables amenable to remote sensing. When the networks were tested with data from other space-times, performance varied from good to poor, with average error values around 1.26. This was mainly due to lack of input variables parameterizing canopy morphology and soil moisture, indicating that such variables should be incorporated in the design of future networks intended for large scale applications.

Nous proposons une résolution du problème de flux optique en présence d'occultations par une approche multi-résolution basée sur la topologie algébrique calculatoire (TAC). Plusieurs méthodes d'estimation du flux optique sont basées sur les contraintes d'intensité et de continuité spatiale du champ de vitesse et conduisent à la résolution d'une équation aux dérivées partielles (EDP).Nous proposons de résoudre le problème de lissage indésirable des contours d'occultation, produit par la contrainte de continuité spatiale, en exploitant le principe de diffusion non-linéaire basé sur le gradient multispectral du flux optique. En effet, le calcul du flux optique peut être interprété par le phénomène de réaction- diffusion du flux optique et le lissage des contours d'occultation est la conséquence du fait que la diffusion se fait d'une manière linéaire dans toute l'image. Une manière d'éviter ce problème est la modification de la conductivité de la diffusion à chaque pixel selon son appartenance au voisinage d'un contour d'occultation. Cela requiert une mesure de détection précise des contours d'occultation afin de les préserver.Nous montrons que le gradient multispectral du flux optique est une mesure qui convient.Nous utilisons l'alternative aux EDPs que représente l'approche TAC qui exploite les lois globales de la diffusion et les principes d'algèbre topologique afin d'offrir plus de robustesse et de précision dans les calculs.Nous utilisons également le modèle TAC multi-résolution pour résoudre le problème de validité de la contrainte d'intensité limitée à de petits décalages.Nous appliquons ensuite notre algorithme au recalage d'images par le flux optique.

Le climat et l'activité humaine sont étroitement liés. Les émissions de gaz à effet de serre (GES) impactent la dynamique climatique et la qualité de l'air, affectant des millions de personnes dans le monde. La surveillance efficace des GES est essentielle pour des décisions politiques éclairées, mais elle est complexe en raison de la variabilité des sources et puits, ainsi que du transport atmosphérique. Les réseaux de surveillance abordent cette variabilité en déployant des capteurs dans des lieux géographiques divers, échantillonnant en continu sur le temps.Les zones urbaines sont des points d'émission clés. Cependant, directement surveiller les changements de GES sur > 5 km2 avec des sources variées et des zones végétalisées manque d'une méthode standard. La méthode de covariance turbulente (eddy covariance, EC) offre une surveillance directe et continue du flux net de GES. L'EC basée sur les ondelettes fonctionne sur les mêmes principes mais ne nécessite pas de stationnarité, laissant plus de données exploitables pour l'analyse, ce qui est particulièrement bénéfique dans les environnements urbains complexes.Démêler les composantes anthropiques et biogéniques d'un flux net de CO2 est reconnu comme un problème clé à résoudre dans les zones urbanisées. Les modèles écosystémiques conventionnels utilisés pour partitionner la productivité primaire brute (GPP) et la respiration de l'écosystème (Reco) ne sont pas appropriés pour les zones urbanisées. La partition directe en utilisant des corrélations haute fréquence entre les gaz traceurs peut aider à surmonter les limitations des méthodes de partitionnement standard.Bien que l'EC reste la norme pour les études locales, l'estimation des flux de surface à plus grande échelle implique souvent d'assimiler des mesures de concentration de fond à des estimations antérieures à l'aide de modèles de transport. Les méthodes d'inversion utilisant les données de flux de tour sont encore rares et il serait intéressant de les tester dans les zones urbanisées.L'objectif de cette thèse était d'évaluer l'EC basée sur les ondelettes combinée à des méthodes d'inversion bayésiennes pour la cartographie des flux de CO2. Au cours de la thèse, j'ai découvert une nouvelle méthode de partitionnement direct qui a été utilisée pour améliorer l'inversion globale dans la zone suburbaine du plateau de Saclay.Dans le premier article de la thèse, nous avons proposé la nouvelle méthode de partitionnement direct basée sur l'analyse en quadrants des flux décomposés en fréquence de CO2 et de vapeur d'eau. Nous avons montré que cette méthode pouvait fournir des estimations impartiales de GPP et Reco. Nous avons également constaté que l'EC basée sur les ondelettes a gardé jusqu'à ~30% plus des données exploitables.Dans le deuxième article, nous avons utilisé une grande tour équipée d'analyseurs à haute précision mais lents. Malgré des fréquences d'acquisition plus lentes, l'atténuation était limitée à ~20 % par une plus faible contribution de hautes fréquences à cette hauteur. Les résultats encouragent une collaboration entre les réseaux atmosphériques et écosystémiques.Dans le troisième article, nous avons combiné la méthode de partitionnement proposée dans le premier article avec les instruments d'une tour atmosphérique du deuxième article. Le flux de CO2 partionné en biogéniques et anthropiques ont été assimilé dans des estimations spatialisées des flux à quelques km2. Les cartes de flux obtenues offrent l'avantage de reposer sur des mesures de flux directes à l'échelle du paysage et peuvent être utilisées pour informer les inversions à grande échelle à des échelles plus larges.Les résultats centrés sur la région parisienne fournissent des bases pour les mesures de flux à l'échelle du paysage et à definir des stratégies de surveillance des émissions. Ces avancées contribuent à la compréhension et à la résolution des défis environnementaux aux échelles temporelles et spatiales où les décisions sont prises Climate and human activity are closely linked. Greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions impact climate dynamics and air quality, affecting millions globally. Effective GHG monitoring is essential for informed policy decisions, yet it is complex due to spatial and temporal variability of sources and sinks, and atmospheric transport. Monitoring networks address this variability by deploying sensors across diverse geographic locations sampling continuously over time.Urban areas are key emission points, driving climate change. However, monitoring direct GHG changes over >5 km2 with varied sources and vegetated areas lacks a standard method. Eddy Covariance (EC) offers direct, continuous GHG net flux monitoring. Wavelet-based EC operates on the same principles as the standard method but calculates covariance using frequency decomposed time series. This approach does not require stationarity, leaving more data available for analysis, particularly beneficial in complex urban environments where non-stationary fluxes are common.Disentangling anthropogenic and biogenic components of a net CO2 flux is recognised as a key issue yet to be resolved in urbanised areas. Conventional ecosystem models used to partition gross primary productivity (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (Reco) are not appropriate for urbanised areas. Direct partitioning using high-frequency correlations between tracer gases may help overcoming the limitations of standard partitioning methods.While Eddy Covariance remains standard for local studies, estimating larger-scale surface fluxes often involves assimilating background concentration measurements to prior estimations using transport models. The progress in satellite imagery and detailed inventories provides a new basis that helps improve these methods. However, inversion methods using tower flux data are still sparse and would be interesting to test in urbanised areas.The objective of this PhD was to evaluate wavelet-based EC combined with Bayesian inversion methods for CO2 flux mapping. During the course of the PhD I discovered a new direct partitioning method that was used with a combination of CH4 and CO to improve the overall inversion in the suburban area of the Saclay plateau.In the first paper of the PhD, we hypothesised that decomposing concentration and wind signals by frequency can capture individual gusts within each frequency, typically mixed in the original signal. We leveraged this feature to propose a new parameter-free direct partitioning method based on quadrant analysis of CO2 and water vapour frequency decomposed fluxes. We showed that this method could indeed provide unbiased estimates of GPP and Reco at a crop and a forest ecosystem site near Paris. We also found that wavelet eddy covariance further saved up to 30% of the non-stationary data in these sites.In the second paper, we proposed using tall towers equipped with high-precision but slow analysers for measuring fluxes. Despite slower acquisition frequencies, attenuation was limited to 20 % by a lower contribution of high frequencies at this height. Results encourage further collaboration between atmospheric and ecosystem networks for in-situ measurements.In the third paper, we combined the partitioning method proposed in the first paper with the flux from the second paper, including now more gases measured to partition CO2 fluxes in biogenic and anthropogenic components and assimilate them in previous spatially-explicit estimations of fluxes at few km2. The obtained flux maps offer the advantage of relying on direct flux measurements at the landscape scale and may be used to informing large-scale inversions at broader scales.Results focused on the Parisian region provide valuable insights for flux measurements at the landscape scale and beyond, and contributing to emission monitoring strategies. The main focus of the study is the implementation of techniques regarding flux estimation and rotor speed estimation by the use of sensorless closed-loop observers. Within this framework, the information about the mathematical representation of the induction motor, pulse width modulation technique and flux oriented vector control techniques together with speed adaptive flux estimation &ndash a kind of sensorless closed loop estimation technique- and Kalman filters is given. With the comparison of sensorless closed-loop speed estimation techniques, it has been attempted to identify their superiority and inferiority to each other by the use of simulation models and real-time experiments. In the experiments, the performance of the techniques developed and used in the thesis has been examined under extensively changing speed and load conditions. The real-time experiments have been carried out by the use of TI TMS320F2812 digital signal processor, XILINX XCS2S150E Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), control card and the motor drive card Furthermore, Matlab &ldquo Embedded Target for the TI C2000 DSP&rdquo and &ldquo Code Composer Studio&rdquo software tools have been used. The simulations and experiments conducted in the study have illustrated that it is possible to increase the performance at low speeds at the expense of increased computational burden on the processor. However, in order to control the motor at zero speed, high frequency signal implementation should be used as well as a different electronic hardware.

La Directive Cadre sur l'Eau exige le retour au bon état des cours d'eau en Europe. Ces cours d'eau reçoivent en effet différentes pollutions liées aux différentes activités économiques des populations installées le long de leurs rives. On s'intéresse souvent de façon isolée à des types particuliers de pollution: pollution agricole dues aux pesticides, engrais et résidus d'élevage en milieu rural, pollution spécifique d'une industrie (sidérurgie, papeterie, etc.), pollution domestique plus ou moins bien traitée, etc. Or dans de nombreux cas, on a affaire à un mélange de polluants. Dans le cas de la Moselle, la pollution générée par les activités humaines dans la partie française du bassin versant de la Moselle impacte la qualité des eaux de surface en aval, et donc celle du Rhin. Notre but est de contribuer à caractériser l’état de certains affluents de la Moselle (Madon, Meurthe, Vologne et Fensch) en fonction de leurs pressions anthropiques et de proposer une stratégie pour calculer les flux des polluants le long de ces cours d’eau. Dans ce contexte des compagnes de prélèvement avec un pas spatial fin. Outre les paramètres habituels de caractérisation de l’état des masses d’eau (conductivité, pH, carbone organique dissous, azote ammoniacal, nitrates, etc.) une attention particulière a été portée aux propriétés optiques (absorbance UV-visible, fluorescence synchrone) de la matière organique dissoute afin de mieux comprendre son origine. Les spectres de fluorescence synchrone ont été étudiés par déconvolution ou par analyse en composantes principales. En outre une méthode a été développée, basée sur la spectroscopie de fluorescence synchrone, pour détecter la présence des azurants optiques. Enfin une méthodologie a été mise au point appliquée au Madon pour calculer les flux journaliers moyens de pollution à chaque station d'échantillonnage pour chaque période d'échantillonnage à partir de données géographiques. These rivers receive different types of pollution related to various economic activities of populations installed along their banks. We are often interested in an isolated manner to particular types of pollution: pollution due to agricultural pesticides, fertilizers and livestock waste in rural areas, pollution due to a specific industry (steel, paper mill, etc.), more or less well treated domestic pollution, etc. But in many cases, we are dealing with a mixture of pollutants. In the case of the Moselle, the pollution generated by human activities in the French part of the Moselle watershed impacts surface water quality downstream and therefore the Rhine. Our goal is to characterize the state of some tributaries of the Moselle (Madon, Meurthe, Vologne and Fensch) versus anthropogenic pressures and propose a strategy to calculate the flow of pollutants along these rivers. In this context, sampling campaigns with a dense spatial stations have been organized. In addition to the usual parameters characterizing water quality (conductivity, pH, dissolved organic carbon, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate, etc.) a particular attention has been given to optical properties (UV-visible absorbance, synchronous fluorescence) of dissolved organic matter in order to understand its origin. Synchronous fluorescence spectra were studied by deconvolution or by principal components analysis. A method has been developed, based on the synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy, to detect the presence of optical brighteners. Finally, a methodology has been developed in Madon watershed in order to calculate the mean daily pollution flux at each sampling station for each sampling period from geographic data

Heat flux and heat conductance at the metal mold interface plays a key role in controlling the final metal casting strength. It is difficult to obtain these parameters through direct measurement because of the required placement of sensors, however they can be obtained through inverse heat conduction calculations. Existing inverse heat conduction methods are analyzed and classified into three categories, i.e., direct inverse methods, observer-based methods and optimization methods. The solution of the direct inverse methods is based on the linear relationship between heat flux and temperature (either in the time domain or in the frequency domain) and is calculated in batch mode. The observer-based method consists on the application of observer theory to the inverse heat conduction problem. The prominent characteristic in this category is online estimation, but the methods in this category show weak robustness. Transforming estimation problems into optimization problems forms the methods in the third category. The methods in third category show very good robustness property and can be easily extended to multidimensional and nonlinear problems. The unknown parameters in some inverse heat conduction methods can be obtained by a proposed calibration procedure. A two-index property evaluation (accuracy and robustness) is also proposed to evaluate inverse heat conduction methods and thus determine which method is suitable for a given situation. The thermocouple dynamics effect on inverse calculation is also analyzed. If the thermocouple dynamics is omitted in the inverse calculation, the time constant of thermocouple should be as small as possible. Finally, a simple model is provided simulating the temperature measurement using a thermocouple. FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is employed to simulate temperature measurement.

Thermoforming is a process of forming thermoplastic sheets into three-dimensional shapes by heating it to tender soft and pliable, and then, forcing the sheet into or over the shape of a mold by applying differential pressure or vacuum. Sheet reheat is the most important step in thermoforming because its result can affect all subsequent processing steps. In order to develop an advanced in-cycle and cycle-to-cycle control strategy, one needs to track the desired sheet temperature profiles throughout the reheat cycle, and identify and characterize the process and material parameters that vary from cycle-to-cycle and batch-to-batch. Absorptivity of the polymer sheet material and the heat flux incident on the sheet are the two important factors that need to be monitored and estimated properly in order to integrate into the absorptivity based model for the sheet reheat phase. Estimation of the heat flux can be used to generate the heat gain matrix relating the energy given to the heating elements and temperature of the sheet. This thesis develops methods to estimate absorptivity and heat flux in order to improve model based control systems.

La charge tectonique des sediments dans un prisme d'accretion conduit, suivant les domaines, a la compaction du sediment et a l'expulsion du fluide interstitiel ou au developpement de pressions de fluide elevees qui compensent l'essentiel de la charge. L'enfouissement sous le prisme de sediments argileux y maintient un regime de haute pression qui permet le glissement du prisme sur le decollement basal. Dans le cas du prisme de la barbade, la propagation du decollement dans la fosse est probablement assuree par la migration de fluide le long du decollement, mais les surpressions necessaires peuvent aussi se developper spontanement sous une sedimentation turbiditique rapide. Les turbidites sont alors accretees et se compactent rapidement dans la partie frontale du prisme. Des estimations du debit de fluide expulse en surface ont ete obtenues grace a l'exploration en sous-marin. Dans le cas de la zone kaiko sur le prisme de nankai, des arguments thermiques indiquent que le fluide est dilue par de l'eau de mer non loin de la surface. Nous proposons que le moteur de cette convection est la difference de densite dans l'eau de mer et le fluide d'origine profonde, qui est moins sale. Dans le cas du prisme de la barbade les donnees indiquent l'existence d'un flux important d'eau peu salee le long du decollement, ce qui implique des migrations laterales et transitoires ainsi que l'existence de sources d'eau importantes autres que la compaction du sediment

Le calcul des flux turbulents a l'interface ocean/atmosphere est necessaire pour etablir des bilans d'energie precis a la surface de la mer ou pour forcer des modeles de circulation oceanique. Au cours de ce travail, nous decrivons en detail la methode bulk qui constitue une parametrisation des echanges turbulents a l'interface air-mer. Nous levons une ambiguite quant au calcul des valeurs neutres des coefficients d'echange, puis nous proposons un algorithme de calcul des flux. Nous developpons une methode originale d'estimation de flux de chaleur latente par radiometrie hyperfrequence spatiale, inspiree des travaux de liu 1990. La methode consiste en un reseau de neurones artificiels, dont les parametres d'entree sont la temperature de surface de la mer et des combinaisons de temperatures de brillance sensibles aux differents parametres du flux. Nous appliquons cet algorithme aux donnees des experiences semaphore (eymard et al. , 1993), catch/fastex (eymard et al. , 1999) et toga/coare (webster and lukas, 1992). Nos comparaisons montrent que la methode des reseaux de neurones constitue une solution precise dans la plupart des cas. Nous trouvons que les structures horizontales du flux estimees par le reseau de neurones sont coherentes avec celles des champs de surface issus des modeles de prevision meteorologique, pour plusieurs cas des experiences semaphore et catch. Dans chaque situation, nous soulignons que l'ecart entre les mesures spatiales et les champs modele est lie aux variations spatiales de la stabilite dans la couche limite de surface. Pour estimer ce dernier parametre, nous proposons un modele 2d stationnaire a z=cte, qui decrit l'adaptation de la temperature de l'air a celle de la surface. Nous parametrisons les effets de la vitesse verticale en fonction de la divergence du vent horizontal. Ce modele tres simple nous permet de restituer des champs de ta fideles a ceux des modeles de prevision, pour trois situations de semaphore et catch.

This work focuses on the development of a system to noninvasively estimate blood perfusion using thermal methods. This is accomplished by the combination of a bioprobe, biothermal model, and parameter estimation techniques. The probe consists of a heat flux sensor and surface thermocouple placed in contact with tissue while the opposite side is cooled by jets of room temperature air. The biothermal model predicts the temperature and heat flux within tissue and probe based upon the input of blood perfusion and the thermal contact resistance between probe and tissue. Parameter estimation techniques are developed that use the model to simultaneously estimate blood perfusion and contact resistance based on experimental heat flux and/or temperature. A gradient based system minimizes a sum of squares error function based on either or both heat flux and temperature. This system is tested on human forearms and in controlled flow rate experiments using tissue phantoms. Blood perfusion estimates from the controlled experiments are positively correlated with experimental flow rate. Experimental measurements and statistical analysis show distinct variations in the heat flux signal and rises in perfusion estimates with increasing flow rate. This research validates the use of thermal and parameter estimation methods to develop a practical, noninvasive probe to clinically measure blood perfusion. Master of Science

Dans cette thèse, nous étudions plusieurs méthodes pour la mise en place de la QoS (Quality of Service) dans un réseau IP. Dans un premier temps, nous modélisons les flux sortant/entrant d'un réseau mobile sans fil. D'abord, nous modélisons les lois d'inter arrivée des paquets d'un flux agrégé entrant au réseau UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network), le réseau d'accès à l'UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service). Ensuite, nous déterminons la loi caractérisant l'inter arrivée des paquets sortant d'un réseau WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) utilisant le protocol 802. 11 de base. Pour ces deux réseaux, nous proposons différents modèles d'agrégation de flux voix, Web, transfert de fichiers ou un multiplexage de flux. Dans un second temps, nous développons les équations qui déterminent les probabilités stationnaires d'une file d'attente implémentant l'ordonnanceur GPS (Generalised Processor Sharing) avec trois classes de service. En utilisant le mécanisme DiffServ (Differentiated Services) pour différencier les flux, nous mesurons la QoS à la sortie d'une file unique ou un réseau utilisant WRR (Weighted Round Robin), un des algorithmes approximant GPS. Nous traçons alors les différentes courbes de délai et de taux de perte observés à la sortie des files en fonction de la pondération et de la charge de chaque classe. Dans un troisième temps, nous développons une méthode d'adaptation dynamique du routage afin de palier aux variations de la distribution du délai sur les liens qui forment le chemin de bout en bout. Ce mécanisme se base sur les techniques de tomographie des réseaux afin d'estimer la distribution du délai sur les différents tronçons des chemins observés In this thesis, we study several implementation methods of the QoS (Quality of Service) in an IP network. As a first step, we model outgoing/entering flows of a mobile wireless network. We model the inter arrival law of the aggregation of the flows entering the UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) network, the UMTS (Mobile Universal Telecommunication Service) access network. We determine also the characterizing law of the inter arrival aggregated traffic leaving a WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) network, using the 802. 11 protocol. For these two networks, we propose various models of aggregation of voice, Web, file transfer flow and a multiplexing of these various classes. In a second step, we develop the equations determining the stationary probabilities of a queue implementing a GPS (Generalised Processor Sharing) scheduler with three classes of services. By using the DiffServ mechanism to differentiate flows, we measure the QoS at the output of a single queue or a network using WRR (Weighted Round Robin), one of the algorithms approximating GPS. We then plot the various curves of delays and loss probabilities observed at the output of this queue according to weight and the load created by each class. In a third step, we develop a method of dynamic adaptation of the routing. We propose it in order to solve the problem with the variations of the delay distribution on the links forming the end to end path. This mechanism is based on network tomography techniques in order to estimate the delay distribution on the various sections of the paths observed

Models of terrestrial water and energy balance include numerical treatment of heat and moisture diffusion in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere continuum. These two diffusion and exchange processes are linked only at a few critical points. The performance and sensitivity of models are highly dependent on the nature of these linkages that are expressed as the closure function between heat and moisture dynamics. Land response to radiative forcing and partitioning of available energy into sensible and latent heat fluxes are dependant on the functional form. Since the function affects the surface fluxes, the influence reaches through the boundary layer and affects the lower atmosphere weather. As important as these closure functions are, they remain essentially empirical and untested across diverse conditions. It is critically important to develop observation-driven estimation procedures for the terrestrial water and energy closure problem, especially at the scale of modeling and with global coverage. In this dissertation a new approach to the estimation of key unknown parameters of water and energy balance equation and their closure relationship is introduced. This approach is based on averaging of heat and moisture diffusion equations conditioned on land surface temperature and moisture states respectively. The method is derived only from statistical stationarity and conservation statements of water and energy and thus it is scale free. The aim of this dissertation is to establish the theoretical basis for the approach and perform a global test using multi-platform remote sensing measurements. The feasibility of this approach is demonstrated at point-scale using synthetic data and flux-tower field site data. The method is applied to the mesoscale region of Gourma (West Africa) using multi-platform remote sensing data. The retrievals were verified against tower-flux field site data and physiographic characteristics of the region. The approach is used to find the functional form of the Evaporative Fraction (ratio of latent heat flux to sum of latent and sensible heat fluxes) dependence on soil moisture. Evaporative Fraction is a key closure function for surface and subsurface heat and moisture dynamics. In this dissertation, we examine an advection diffusion model for insects inhabiting a spatially heterogeneous environment and moving toward a more favorable environment. We first study the effects of adding a term describing drift or advection toward a favorable environment to diffusion models for population dynamics. The diffusion model is a basic linear two-dimensional diffusion equation describing local dispersal of species. The mathematical advection terms are taken to be Fickian and describe directed movement of the population toward the favorable environment. For this model, the landscape is composed of one homogeneous habitat patch embedded in a spatially heterogeneous environment and the boundary of the habitat inhabited by the population acts as a lethal edge. We also derived the mean occupancy time and the boundary flux of the habitat patch. The diffusion rate and advection parameters of the advection diffusion model are estimated based on mean occupancy time and boundary flux. We then introduce two methods for the identification of these coefficients in the model as well as the capture rate. These two new methods have some advantages over other methods of estimating those parameters, including reduced computational cost and ease of use in the field. We further examine the statistical properties of new methods through simulation, and discuss how mean occupancy time and boundary flux could be estimated in field experiments.

Traditionally, agricultural nitrous oxide (N₂O) emission of New Zealand has been measured using chambers or lysimeters, and micrometeorological flux measurement experiments have been very few. Since micrometerological flux measurement systems have the advantage of measuring spatially integrated flux values for longer time periods compared to measurements made using chambers, development and verification of such a system was needed for New Zealand's agro-meteorological conditions. In this study, efficacy of such a combined flux gradient (FG) - eddy covariance (EC) micrometeorological flux measurement system is verified by continuously measuring N₂O fluxes from some control and mitigated agricultural plots of New Zealand. The control fields had natural N₂O emission, whereas, the mitigated plots were treated with chemicals to reduce N₂O emission. In this combined FG-EC method, the turbulent eddy diffusivities were estimated using the Monin-Obukhov (M-O) similarity theory based parameterization (where diffusion velocity `dhp' was used) and a thermal approach (where eddy diffusivity `kht' was used) from the EC measurements. These transfer coefficients (kht and dhp) along with the measured N₂O concentration differences were then fitted to the traditional FG equation to compute final flux values. As the primary objective of this study, measured fluxes from two different seasons and from two approaches were compared for consistency and then verified against published results. Under this wider objective of verification of the FG-EC micrometeorological method of N₂O flux estimation, this research thesis addresses three key issues: (i) assessment of error propagation in the measured flux through the eddy diffusivity - to understand the random error dynamics of the system and to estimate precision of the overall method, (ii) quantification and separation of N₂O source area emission rates from adjacent plots - to identify the contribution of an individual plot to the measured flux when multi-plot fluxes were measured from sources with different biogenic characters, and (iii) quantification of the effect of animal grazing and mitigation on the measured flux and actual emission rate of N₂O - to assess robustness of the FG-EC micrometeorological system. As a fourth objective of this study, (iv) new scaling properties of a turbulence surface layer model of a convective atmosphere is investigated as an alternative to the standard M-O similarity theory, as significant questioning of the M-O theory has been reported in some recent publications. Results from the verification experiment showed that the daily measured flux values obtained from this combined micrometeorlogical system for control plots varied between 0-191.9 and 0-491.8 gN₂O-N.ha⁻¹.day⁻¹ for autumn and spring experiments, respectively, for the parameterization method. Similarly, the daily mean flux values were found to be 10.9 ± 0.98 and 11.7 ± 0.57 gN₂O-N.ha⁻¹.day⁻¹ for the autumn and spring seasons, respectively. All these values were found to be of the same order of previously reported values in the literature and found to verifying that this FG-EC system works well under a range of meteorological conditions within a defined error range. Therefore, when the propagated random error was computed in the final flux value using kht and dhp, the mean relative error in kht was found to be higher than the mean relative error in dhp, irrespective of stability. From a Monte-Carlo type simulation of the random error, it was found that the maximum error can be up to 80% for kht irrespective of stability, and 49% and 35% for dhp respectively for stable (1/L ≥ 0, where L is Obukhov length) and unstable (1/L < 0) atmosphere. Errors in the concentration differences were estimated based on the minimum resolvable estimates from the gas analyzer and the associated random errors were found to be 6% and 8% for unstable and stable conditions. Finally, the total mean random error in the N2Oflux values was found to be approximately of the order of 9% and 12% for the parameterization method for unstable and stable conditions, respectively, and 16.5% for the thermal method, irrespective of stability. Objective (ii) of this research was addressed by developing a `footprint fraction' based inverse footprint method. Results of the footprint analysis method were assessed, first, by comparing footprint fractions obtained from both an analytical footprint model and a `forward' simulation of a backward Lagrangian stochastic (bLs) model; and second, by comparing the source area emission rates of a control plot obtained from the footprint analysis method and from the `backward' simulation of the bLs model. It was observed that the analytical footprint fractions were realistic as they compared well with the values obtain from the bLs model. The actual emission rates were found to be on average 2.1% higher than the measured flux values for the control plots. On average 4.3% of the measured fluxes were found to be contributed by source areas outside of the field domain. Again, the proposed footprint method of emission rate estimation was found to work well under a wider range of atmospheric stability, as the inverse footprint model and bLs model based emission rates were found to correlate well (0.70 and 0.61 for autumn and spring, respectively) with a 99% statistical significance. Similarly when the effect of grazing on the N₂O fluxes was considered, a 90% enhancement in the flux values was observed after grazing, followed by a decreasing trend in fluxes. However, contrary to existing knowledge of mitigation of N₂O flux by an inhibitor, this study found no statistically significant effect of mitigation in the pastoral emission of N₂O. Error accumulation, lesser soil N₂O production potential and/or inefficiency of the FG-EC method was conjectured to be reason/s for such discrepancy and some alternative convective boundary layer turbulence scaling was tested. Separate field measurement data, including the vertical profile measurements of the convective boundary layer and sonic anemometer measurements within the surface layer were used for this purpose. The spectral analysis of the vertical wind component, temperature and heat flux revealed that this new model of the convective boundary layer, which explains atmospheric boundary layer turbulence in terms of some nonlocal parameters, is more suitable than the traditional Monin-Obukhov similarity theory based model of atmospheric turbulence where the atmospheric flow properties are local. Therefore, it can be concluded that this new model of turbulence might provide the framework for a newer model of flux estimation in future. Overall, the FG-EC model of N₂O flux estimation method seems to work well within a certain error range. However, more field applications of this FG-EC method are needed for different agro-meteorological conditions of New Zealand before this method is accepted as a standard method of flux estimation, particularly, inefficiency in detecting the effect of mitigation should be tested. Development of an alternative flux gradient model which includes nonlocal atmospheric surface parameters might also be considered as a future research objective.

J'ai développé un instrument permettant de mesurer simultanément le CO2 (ou le CO), le CH4, le N2O et le SF6. Il s'agit d'un chromatographe gazeux commercial (Agilent 6890N) que j'ai modifié pour atteindre une très haute précision. Les reproductibilités calculées sur 24 heures avec un gaz target sont: 0. 06 ppm pour le CO2, 1. 4 ppb pour le CO, 0. 7 ppb pou le CH4, 0. 2 ppb pour le N2O et 0. 05 ppt pour le SF6. Le fonctionnement de l'instrument est automatisé et permet d'analyser un échantillon toutes les 5 minutes. En juillet 2006, j'ai instrumenté une tour de télécommunication de 200 mètres dans la forêt d'Orléans sur la commune de Trainou, pour le suivi en continu des gaz à effet de serre (CO2, CH4, N2O, SF6), de traceurs atmosphériques (CO, Radon-222) et des paramètres météorologiques. Des lignes de prélèvement ont été installées à partir de trois niveaux (50, 100 et 180 m), et permettent d'échantillonner les masses d'air selon la verticale. Les mesures en continu ont démarré début 2007. J'ai utilisé les mesures atmosphériques en continu à Mace Head (Irlande) et G if-sur-Yvette (91 ) pour estimer les flux d'émission des principaux gaz à effet de serre à l'échelle régionale. Pour faire le lien entre les mesures atmosphériques et les flux d< surface, il est indispensable de quantifier la dilution par le transport atmosphérique. J'ai utilisé pour cela le Radon-222 comme traceur atmosphérique (méthode Radon), et les estimations de hauteurs de couche limite par le modèle ECMWF (méthode du bilan de la couche limite). Dans les deux cas je me suis attaché à comparer les résultats obtenus avec les inventaires d'émission disponibles I build up a new System to measure continuously CO2 (or CO), CH4, N2O and SF6 mixing ratios. It is based on a commercial gas chromatograph (Agilent 6890N) which have been modified to reach better precisions. Reproducibility computed with a target gas on a 24 hours time step gives: 0. 06 ppm for CO2, 1. 4 ppb for CO, 0. 7 ppb for ChU, 0. 2 ppb for N2O and 0. 05 ppt for SF6. The instrument's run is fully automated, an air sample analysis takes about 5 minutes. In July 2006, I install instrumentation on a telecommunication tall tower (200m) situated near Orleans forest in Trainou, to monitor continuously greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, SF6), atmospheric tracers (CO, Radon-222) and meteorological parameters. Intake lines were installed at 3 levels (50, 100 and 180 m) and allow us to sample air masses along the vertical. Continuous measurement started in January 2007. I used Mace Head (Ireland) and Gif-sur-Yvette continuous measurements to estimate major greenhouse gases emission fluxes at regional scale. To make the link between atmospheric measurements and surface fluxes, we need to quantify dilution due to atmospheric transport. I used Radon-222 as tracer (radon tracer method) and planetary boundary layer heights estimates from ECMWF model (boundary layer budget method) to parameterise atmospheric transport. Les études récentes menées sur la pollution véhicullée par les eaux de rnisselement ont mis en évidence son importance, et il est actuellement admis que les réseaux d'assainissement unitaires représentent une source de pollution importante pour l'environnement naturel, en raison des rejets par deversoirs d'orage provoqués par les pluies. Cette étude a permis de mettre en évidence des éléments d'ordre méthodologique permettant l'estimation des rejets unitaires. Cette investigation est basée sur une exploitation de données recueillies sur des études françaises de cas concrets où de tels problèmes se sont posés. L'étude a été réalisée en quatre étapes : - Une étude bibliographique qui a permis de découvrir l'état actuel du problème en termes de méthodes existantes sur les deux plans expérimental et modélisateur et de définir les besoins de recherche. Une analyse et -une exploitation d'études françaises qui ont permis de , définir les différentes méthodologies utilisées par les bureaux d'etudes et de mettre en évidence les lacunes d'ordre méthodologique. - Un cadre méthodologique cohérent comprenant des méthodes et propositions améliorées ou nouvelles, a été défini. Cet organigramme a été construit de façon à pouvoir réaliser les tests et les comparaisons des méthodes retenues. - Un outil informatique a été construit et a permis d'effectuer les simulations et les tests envisagés. Une étude comparative des résultats a permis de mettre en évidence des éléments méthodologiques nouveaux concernant les méthodes basées sur le principe de la simulation de phénomènes pluvieux et le principe d'utilisation de concentrations moyennes en polluants There are about twenty years ago, nobody was interested by combined sewer overflow phenomenas in storm weather. The water or urban runoff have been supposed "clean" and one considered that the dilution of dry weather effluent in the storm water decrease the impact of the pollution generated by overflows. The recent quality studies about water runoff have showed the importance of this water's pollution. So, actually it is admited that combined se~er systems represent an important source of pollution for the natural environment. In this thesis, methodology to estimate combined overflows has been elaborated after exploitation of data resulted from french concrete case studies where such problems a're observed. ABSTRACT SENSORLESS DIRECT FIELD ORIENTED CONTROL OF INDUCTION MACHINE BY FLUX AND SPEED ESTIMATORS USING MODEL REFERENCE ADAPTIVE SYSTEM This work focuses on an observer design which will estimate flux-linkage and speed for induction motors in its entire speed control range. The theoretical base of the algorithm is explained in detail and its both open-loop, and closed-loop performance is tested with experiments, measuring only stator current and voltage. Theoretically, the field-oriented control for the induction motor drive can be mainly categorized into two types indirect and direct field oriented. The field to be oriented may be rotor, stator, or airgap flux-linkage. In the indirect field-oriented control, the slip estimation based on the measured or estimated rotor speed is required in order to compute the synchronous speed. There is no need for the flux estimation in such a system. For the direct field oriented case the synchronous speed is computed with the aid of a flux estimator. In DFO, the synchronous speed is iv computed from the ratio of dq-axes fluxes. With the combination of a flux estimator and an open-loop speed estimator one can observe stator-rotor fluxes, rotor-flux angle and rotor speed. In this study, the direct (rotor) flux oriented control system with flux and-open-loop speed estimators is described and tested in real-time with the Evaluation Module named TMS320LF21407 and the Embedded Target software named Vissim from Visual Solutions Company.

A non-invasive blood perfusion system has been developed and tested in a phantom tissue and an animal model. The system uses a small sensor with a laminated flat thermocouple to measure the heat transfer response to an arbitrary thermal event (convective or conductive) imposed on the tissue surface. Blood perfusion and contact resistance are estimated by comparing heat flux data with a mathematical model of the tissue. The perfusion system was evaluated for repeatability and sensitivity using both a phantom tissue test stand and exposed rat liver tests. Perfusion in the phantom tissue tests was varied by controlling the flow of water into the phantom tissue test section, and the perfusion in the exposed liver tests was varied by temporarily occluding blood flow through the portal vein. The phantom tissue tests indicated that the probe can be used to detect small changes in perfusion (0.009 ml/ml/s). The probe qualitatively tracked the changes in the perfusion of the liver model due to occlusion of the portal vein. Master of Science

Lors de la réalimentation des auxiliaires d'une tranche nucléaire ou hydraulique, l'étape la plus à risque est la remise sous tension brusque du transformateur à cause des surtensions et courants d'appels générés. Ces phénomènes transitoires engendrent des effets très indésirables autant pour le réseau comme pour le transformateur (efforts électrodynamiques sous les bobinages, vibration du circuit magnétique, bruit et vieillissement prématuré du transformateur.) Le but de ces travaux de thèse est de proposer de nouvelles méthodologies permettant d'évaluer les paramètres mal connus (les valeurs des flux rémanents présents dans le circuit magnétique du transformateur avant sa mise sous tension). Abstract (sommario):

Le procédé de soudage à l'arc sous atmosphère inerte (TIG) est souvent employé pour des assemblages nécessitant une grande qualité du joint soudé. Les propriétés du joint soudé dépendent essentiellement du cycle thermique imposé par l'opération de soudage, de la composition chimique du matériau métallique et des mouvements convectifs du métal fondu dans le bain de fusion. L'écoulement du métal liquide dans le bain de fusion modifie la distribution de température en son sein et à proximité, ainsi que la forme géométrique du joint. Afin d'améliorer l'opération de soudage TIG, par exemple pour accroitre la productivité ou éviter des défauts rédhibitoires, il est nécessaire de bien comprendre les phénomènes physiques mis en jeu dans le bain de fusion ainsi que l'effet des paramètres opératoires (intensité, hauteur d'arc, gaz …) sur ces phénomènes physiques. Dans le but d'appréhender les phénomènes mis en jeu au cours de l'opération TIG et dans le bain de fusion, un modèle multi-physique 2D axisymétrique a été établi et résolu par la méthode des éléments finis (MEF). Les forces telles que Lorentz (électromagnétique), Marangoni (Tension superficielle), Boussinesq et la force de cisaillement du plasma d'arc ont été prises en compte au niveau du bain de fusion. Le modèle TIG établi est utilisé pour prédire la distribution de température et la distribution des vitesses dans le bain de fusion ainsi que la forme géométrique du bain de fusion. Un protocole expérimental a été développé dans le but de valider le modèle proposé. Pour cela, une opération de soudage TIG stationnaire (pas de mouvement de la torche) a été réalisée sur un disque métallique. L'opération a été contrôlée par des mesures de température, par une observation de la formation et de l'évolution de la surface du bain de fusion avec une caméra rapide et un enregistrement des paramètres opératoires (intensité et tension). Toutes les données sont synchronisées entre elles pour permettre une analyse expérimentale pertinente. La confrontation des résultats expérimentaux avec le modèle multi-physique du soudage TIG a fait apparaître une assez bonne adéquation, mais des différences existent, essentiellement liées à la méconnaissance des paramètres décrivant le flux de chaleur utilisé dans la simulation. Le flux de chaleur a été modélisé par une fonction Gaussienne qui nécessite la connaissance du rendement du procédé TIG et la distribution spatiale (ou rayon de la Gaussienne). L'estimation de ces paramètres a été réalisée par une méthode inverse. Cette méthode inverse a consisté à estimer les paramètres inconnus à partir des données expérimentales disponibles. La méthode d'optimisation dite de Levenberg-Marquardt, associée à une technique de régularisation itérative, a été utilisée pour estimer les paramètres. La pertinence et la robustesse de cette méthode ont été validées au travers de plusieurs cas numériques ; soit des cas utilisant des données « exactes » ou des données « bruitées ». Trois types d'erreurs ont été analysés séparément : bruit de mesure, erreur sur la position du capteur et imprécision sur la valeur des propriétés thermophysiques. Les deux dernière erreurs sont celles qui impactent fortement le résultat de l'estimation, essentiellement l'estimation du rendement du procédé TIG. Enfin, une partie des données expérimentales a été utilisée pour résoudre le problème inverse. Les paramètres ont été estimés avec une marge d'erreur inférieure à 10% et ils sont en bon accord avec les valeurs trouvées dans la littérature Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process is generally used for assemblies that requires high quality weld joint. The microstructure and the weld joint relies mainly on the thermal cycle due to the welding operation, the chemical composition of the metallic material and the complex flow of molten metal in the weld pool. Moreover the fluid flow in the weld pool play a major role in the temperature distribution and the final weld pool shape. Better understanding of the physical phenomena involved in the welding operation, more exactly in the weld pool, are the fundamental step for improving the GTAW operation, for example increase the productivity or avoid defects. In the present research work, a two dimensional axi-symmetric multiphysics model was established in order to predict the weld pool shape evolution in the frame of a stationary Gas Tungsten Arc Welding using a finite element numerical approach. The weld pool model included various driving forces such as self-induced electromagnetic (Lorentz force), surface tension (Marangoni force), buoyancy and the arc plasma drag force. The stated GTAW model is used for predicting the velocity and temperature distribution in the fusion zone and the final weld pool shape. In order to validate the GTAW model, an experimental set up was defined for synchronizing the acquisition of time dependent data such as temperature, weld pool radius and welding process parameters (current and voltage). Image processing algorithms were developed for the time dependent weld pool size identification from the high speed camera images. Comparison between experimental and calculated data exhibited important discrepancies on the temperature field and weld pool radius. These discrepancies are due to the incoming heat flux from the arc plasma into the work piece. The heat flux was modeled with a Gaussian function itself described with few parameters;two of these required to be estimated: GTAW efficiency and Gaussian distribution.An inverse approach is used for estimating these parameters from the available experimental data: temperature, weld pool radius and macrographs. The Levenberg-Marquardt method is used to solve the inverse heat transfer problem coupled to an iterative process regularization. Afterward the inverse heat transfer problem was investigated through few numerical cases in order to verify its robustness to three sorts of error in the input data (measurement noise, sensor location error and inaccuracies associated with the thermophysical properties). The inverse approach was robust to errors introduced on measurement data. However, errors on the position of sensors or on the knowledge of material thermo-physical properties are problematic on the GTAW efficiency estimation. Finally the inverse problem was solved with experimental measurement. The estimated parameters are in good agreement with the literature. The evaluated error on the estimated parameters is less than 10%

La qualité de l’information concernant les origines et les destinations (OD) des véhicules dans un carrefour influence la performance de nombreux systèmes des transports routiers. La période de sa mise à jour conditionne l’échelle temporelle de fonctionnement de ces systèmes. Nous nous intéressons au problème de reconstitution à chaque cycle de feux des OD des véhicules traversant un carrefour à partir des états des feux et des mesures de trafic provenant des capteurs vidéo. Les mesures de trafic, fournies à la seconde, sont les débits aux entrées/sorties du carrefour et les nombres de véhicules en arrêt dans les zones internes du carrefour. Ces données réelles sont entachées d’imperfections. La seule méthode existante qui est capable de résoudre ce problème, nommée ORIDI, ne tient pas compte de l’imperfection des données. Nous proposons une nouvelle méthode modélisant l’imprécision de données par la théorie des sous-ensembles flous. Elle est applicable à tout type de carrefour et indépendante du type de stratégie de feux. Elle consiste à estimer les flux OD à partir de la loi de conservation des véhicules représentée par un système d’équation sous déterminé construit de façon dynamique à chaque cycle de feux grâce aux réseaux de Petri a-temporisés flous. Une solution unique est trouvée grâce à huit différentes méthodes qui représentent l’estimation sous forme d’un point, d’un intervalle ou d’un sous-ensemble flou. Notre étude montre que les méthodes nettes sont aussi précises qu’ORIDI, mais plus robustes face à une panne d’un des capteurs vidéo. Les méthodes ensemblistes et floues, étant moins précises qu’ORIDI, cherchent à garantir que la solution inclut la vraie valeur The quality of the information about origins and destinations (OD) of vehicles in a junction influences the performance of many road transport systems. The period of its update determines the temporal scale of working of these systems. We are interested in the problem of reconstituting of the OD of vehicles crossing a junction, at each traffic light cycle, using the traffic light states and traffic measurements from video sensors. Traffic measurements, provided every second, are the vehicle counts made on each entrance and exit of the junction and the number of vehicles stopped at each inner section of the junction. Thses real date are subject to imperfections. The only existent method, named ORIDI, which is capable of resolving this problem doesn’t take into account the data imperfection. We propose a new method modelling the date imprecision by the theory of fuzzy subsets. It can be applied to any type of junction and is independent of the type of traffic light strategy. The method estimates OD flows from the vehicle conservation law represented by an underdetermined system of equations constructed in a dynamic way at each traffic light cycle using to the fuzzy a-timed Petri nets. A unique solution is found thanks to eight different methods which introduce estimate in the form of point, interval or fuzzy set. Our study shows that the crisp methods are accurate like ORIDI, but more robust when one of the video sensors is broken down. The interval and fuzzy methods, being less accurate than ORIDI, try to guarantee that the solution includes the true value

Les réseaux de transport multimodaux modernes sont essentiels pour la durabilité écologique et l’aisance économique des agglomérations urbaines, par conséquent aussi pour la qualité de vie de leurs habitants. D’ailleurs, le bon fonctionnement sur le plan de la compatibilité entre les différents services et lignes est essentiel pour leur acceptation, étant donné que (i) la plupart des trajets nécessitent des changements entre les lignes et que (ii) des investissements coûteux, dans le but de créer des liens plus directs avec la construction de nouvelles lignes ou l’extension de lignes existantes, ne sont pas à débattre. Une meilleure compréhension des interactions entre les modes et les lignes dans le contexte des transferts de passagers est ainsi d’une importance cruciale. Toutefois, comprendre ces transferts est singulièrement difficile dans le cas de situations inhabituelles comme des incidents de passagers et/ou si la demande dévie des plans statistiques à long terme. Ici le développement et l’intégration de modèles mathématiques sophistiqués peuvent remédier à ces inconvénients. À ce propos, la supervision via des modèles prévoyants représente un champ d’application très prometteur, analysée ici. La supervision selon des modèles prévoyants peut prendre différentes formes. Dans le présent travail, nous nous intéressons à l’analyse de l’impact basé sur des modèles de différentes actions, comme des départs en retard de certains véhicules après un arrêt, appliqué sur le fonctionnement du réseau de transport et sa gestion de situations de stress qui ne font pas partie des données statistiques. C’est pourquoi nous introduisons un nouveau modèle, un automate hybride avec une dynamique probabiliste, et nous montrons comment ce modèle profondément mathématique peut prédire le nombre de passagers dans et l’état de fonctionnement du véhicule en question du réseau de transport, d’abord par de simples estimations du nombre de tous les passagers et la connaissance exacte de l’état du véhicule au moment de l’incident. Ce nouvel automate réunit sous un même regard les passagers demandeurs de services de transport à parcours fixes ainsi que les véhicules capables de les assurer. Il prend en compte la capacité maximale et le fait que les passagers n’empruntent pas nécessairement des chemins efficaces, dont la représentation sous la forme d’une fonction de coût facilement compréhensible devient nécessaire. Chaque passager possède son propre profil de voyage qui définit un chemin fixe dans l’infrastructure du réseau de transport, et une préférence pour les différents services de transport sur son chemin. Les mouvements de véhicules sont inclus dans la dynamique du modèle, ce qui est essentiel pour l’analyse de l’impact de chaque action liée aux mouvements de véhicule. De surcroît, notre modèle prend en compte l’incertitude qui résulte du nombre inconnu de passagers au début et de passagers arrivant au fur et à mesure. Comparé aux modèles classiques d’automates hybrides, notre approche inspirée du style des réseaux de Pétri ne requiert pas le calcul de ces équations différentielles à la main. Ces systèmes peuvent être dérivés de la représentation essentiellement graphique d’une manière automatique pour le calcul en temps discret d’une prévision. Cette propriété de notre modèle réduit le risque de précisions faites par des humains et les erreurs qui en résulteraient. Après avoir introduit notre nouveau modèle, nous développons dans ce rapport également quelques éléments constitutifs sous la forme d'algorithmes qui visent les deux types d'impasses qui sont probables d'occurir pendant la simulation faisant un pronostic, c-à-d l'intégration numérique des systèmes de haute dimension d'équations différentielles et l'explosion combinatoire de son état discret. En plus, nous prouvons la faisabilité des calculs et nous montrons les bénéfices prospectifs de notre approche dans la forme de quelques tests simplistes et quelques cas plus réalistes Without any doubt, modern multimodal transportation systems are vital to the ecological sustainability and the economic prosperity of urban agglomerations, and in doing so to the quality of life of their many inhabitants. Moreover it is known that a well-functioning interoperability of the different modes and lines in such networked systems is key to their acceptance given the fact that (i) many if not most trips between different origin/destination pairs require transfers, and (ii) costly infrastructure investments targeting the creation of more direct links through the construction of new or the extension of existing lines are not open to debate. Thus, a better understanding of how the different modes and lines in these systems interact through passenger transfers is of utmost importance. However, acquiring this understanding is particularly tricky in degraded situations where some or all transportation services cannot be provided as planned due to e.g. some passenger incident, and/or where the demand for these scheduled services deviates from any statistical long term-plannings. Here, the development for and integration of sophisticated mathematical models into the operation of such systems may provide remedy, where model-predictive supervision seems to be one very promising area of application which we consider here. Model-predictive supervision can take several forms. In this work, we focus on the model-based impact analysis of different actions, such as the delayed departure of some vehicle from a stop, applied to the operation of the considered transportation system upon some downgrading situation occurs which lacks statistical data. For this purpose, we introduce a new stochastic hybrid automaton model, and show how this mathematically profound model can be used to forecast the passenger numbers in and the vehicle operational state of this transportation system starting from estimations of all passenger numbers and an exact knowledge of the vehicle operational state at the time of the incident occurrence. Our new automaton model brings under the same roof, all passengers who demand fixed-route transportation services, and all vehicles which provide them. It explicitly accounts for all capacity-limits and the fact that passengers do not necessarily follow efficient paths which must be mapped to some simple to understand cost function. Instead, every passenger has a trip profile which defines a fixed route in the infrastructure of the transportation system, and a preference for the different transportation services along this route. Moreover, our model does not abstract away from all vehicle movements but explicitly includes them in its dynamics, which latter property is crucial to the impact analysis of any vehicle movement-related action. In addition our model accounts for uncertainty; resulting from unknown initial passenger numbers and unknown passenger arrival flows. Compared to classical modelling approaches for hybrid automata, our Petri net-styled approach does not require the end user to specify our model's many differential equations systems by hand. Instead, all these systems can be derived from the model's predominantly graphical specification in a fully automated manner for the discrete time computation of any forecast. This latter property of our model in turn reduces the risk of man-made specification and thus forecasting errors. Besides introducing our new model, we also develop in this report some algorithmic bricks which target two major bottlenecks which are likely to occur during its forecast-producing simulation, namely the numerical integration of the many high-dimensional systems of stochastic differential equations and the combinatorial explosion of its discrete state. Moreover, we proof the computational feasibility and show the prospective benefits of our approach in form of some simplistic test- and some more realistic use case

Une prise en compte plus réaliste de ces échanges et du rôle joué par les océans est donc indispensable à l'amélioration de la prévision numérique du temps ainsi qu'à la connaissance approfondie du climat. La mesure in situ reste un moyen très efficace d'estimer précisément les transferts thermodynamiques et gazeux à la surface de la mer. Dans ce but, la campagne EQUALANT99, qui s'est déroulée dans l'océan Atlantique équatorial pendant l'été 1999 a permis de collecter un important jeu de données météorologiques. Tout d'abord, les flux turbulents entre l'océan et l'atmosphère ont été estimés à l'aide des méthodes inertio-dissipative et des corrélations turbulentes. . Interactions between the huge oceanic surfaces and the atmosphere involve substantial amount of energy and material. So, taking these exchanges into account in a more realistic way is essential to improve numerical weather forecasting as well as our knowledge of climate. An efficient mean to precisely estimate the transfer of gas and energy above the sea surface is still the local measurement. With this aim in view, the EQUALANT99 experiment, which took place in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean in summer 1999, allowed to gather a large meteorological dataset. First, turbulent fluxes above the ocean have been estimated with both inertial dissipation and eddy correlation methods. .

Mestrado MEDfOR - Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management - Instituto Superior de Agronomia The Eddy covariance method is a widespread method used for measuring carbon fluxes between the atmosphere and the ecosystem. It provides a high temporal resolution of measurements, but it is restricted to an area around the tower called footprint, and other methods are usually used in combination with eddy covariance data in order to estimate carbon fluxes for larger areas. Spectral vegetation indices derived from increasingly available satellite data can be combined with eddy covariance data to estimate carbon fluxes outside of the tower footprint. Following that approach, the present study attempted to model carbon fluxes for a karst grassland in Slovenia. Three types of model were considered: (1) a linear relationship between NEE or GPP and each vegetation index, (2) a linear relationship between GPP and the product of a vegetation index with PAR, and (3) a simplified LUE model assuming a constant LUE. We compared the performance of several vegetation indices from two sources (Landsat and SPOT-Vegetation) as predictors of NEE and GPP, based on three accuracy metrics (R², RMSE and AIC). Two types of aggregation of flux data were explored, midday average fluxes and daily average fluxes. The Vapor Pressure Deficit was used to separate the growing season in two phases, a greening phase and a dry phase, which were considered separately in the modelling process, in addition to the growing season as a whole. The results showed that NDVI was the best predictor of GPP and NEE during the greening phase, whereas water related vegetation indices, namely LSWI and MNDWI were the best predictors during the dry phase, both for midday and daily aggregates. Model type 1 (linear relationship) was found to be the best in many cases. The best regression equations obtained were used to illustrate the mapping of GPP and NEE for the study area N/A

A convenient method for testing and calibrating surface perfusion sensors has been developed. A phantom tissue model is used to mimic the non-directional blood flow of tissue perfusion. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was constructed in Fluent to design the phantom tissue and validate the experimental results. The phantom perfusion system was used with a perfusion sensor based on the clearance of thermal energy. A heat flux gage measures the heat flux response of tissue when a thermal event (convective cooling) is applied. The blood perfusion and contact resistance are estimated by a parameter estimation code. From the experimental and analytical results, it was concluded that the probe displayed good measurement repeatability and sensitivity. The experimental perfusion measurements in the tissue were in good agreement with those of the CFD models and demonstrated the value of phantom tissue system. This simple, cost effective, and noninvasive convective blood perfusion system was then tested in animal models. The perfusion system was evaluated for repeatability and sensitivity using isolated rat liver and exposed rat kidney tests. Perfusion in the isolated liver tests was varied by controlling the flow of the perfusate into the liver, and the perfusion in the exposed kidney tests was varied by temporarily occluding blood flow through the renal artery and vein. The perfusion estimated by the convective perfusion probe was in good agreement with that of the metered flow of perfusate into the liver model. The liver tests indicated that the probe can be used to detect small changes in perfusion (0.005 ml/ml/s). The probe qualitatively tracked the changes in the perfusion in kidney model due to occlusion of the renal artery and vein. Ph. D.

This work focuses on speed estimation techniques for sensorless closed-loop speed control of an induction machine based on direct field-oriented control technique. Details of theories behind the algorithms are stated and their performances are verified by the help of simulations and experiments. The field-oriented control as the vector control technique is mainly implemented in two ways: indirect field oriented control and direct field oriented control. The field to be oriented may be rotor, stator, or airgap flux-linkage. In the indirect field-oriented control no flux estimation exists. The angular slip velocity estimation based on the measured or estimated rotor speed is required, to compute the synchronous speed of the motor. In the direct field oriented control the synchronous speed is computed with the aid of a flux estimator. Field Oriented Control is based on projections which transform a three phase time and speed dependent system into a two co-ordinate time invariant system. These projections lead to a structure similar to that of a DC machine control. The flux observer used has an adaptive structure which makes use of both the voltage model and the current model of the machine. The rotor speed is estimated via Kalman filter technique which has a recursive state estimation feature. The flux angle estimated by flux observer is processed taking the angular slip velocity into account for speed estimation. For closed-loop speed control of system, torque, flux and speed producing control loops are tuned by the help of PI regulators. The performance of the closed-loop speed control is investigated by simulations and experiments. TMS320F2812 DSP controller card and the Embedded Target for the TI C2000 DSP tool of Matlab are utilized for the real-time experiments.

Ce travail de recherche, réalisé dans le cadre du programme IDAF, est une contribution à l'étude des dépôts des constituants majeurs atmosphériques à la surface de la terre, en Afrique tropicale. Il concerne l'étude des concentrations atmosphériques des gaz azotés (ammoniac, dioxyde d'azote, acide nitrique), du dioxyde de soufre (SO2) et de l'ozone (O3) et leur dépôt sec en Afrique de l'Ouest et Centrale. Les gaz ont été mesurés sur une base mensuelle par la technique des capteurs passifs sur une période de dix ans (1998-2007) dans sept sites IDAF représentatifs d'un transect d'écosystèmes : savanes sèches - savanes humides - forêts. La validation et l'analyse de la base de données décennales des " gaz IDAF " a permis d'établir les niveaux de concentrations caractéristiques de chaque écosystème et d'étudier leurs évolutions moyennes mensuelles, saisonnières, annuelles et interannuelles sur le transect d'écosystèmes. Les flux de dépôt sec ont été estimés par la méthode inférentielle à partir des vitesses de dépôt sec calculées en utilisant le modèle " big-leaf " de Zhang et al. (2003b). Dans le modèle de dépôt, les conditions de surface et météorologiques spécifiques aux sites IDAF ont été adaptées puis validées pour être représentatives de ces sites et ont ainsi permis de simuler les vitesses de dépôt sec représentatives des grands écosystèmes. Les variations moyennes mensuelles, saisonnières et annuelles des flux de dépôt sec des gaz (NO2, HNO3, NH3, O3, et SO2) sont analysées dans l'objectif de réaliser un bilan de dépôt atmosphérique total (sec + humide) d'azote à l'échelle des écosystèmes africains. Le dépôt total d'azote est estimé respectivement à 6-9 kgN.ha-1.an-1, 7-10 kgN.ha-1.an-1 et 13 kgN.ha-1.an-1 en savanes sèches, en savane humides et en forêts, avec une contribution relative du dépôt sec sous forme gazeuse au dépôt total d'azote comprise entre 46 et 71% sur l'ensemble des écosystèmes. Un bilan émission-dépôt des composés azotés oxydés et réduits à l'échelle de chaque écosystème a été réalisé et a montré un flux d'émission totale de même ordre de grandeur que le dépôt moyen annuel d'azote pour les écosystèmes de savanes mais plus faible dans l'écosystème forestier. Enfin une analyse comparative entre les mesures IDAF de dépôt d'azote et, d'une part, le dépôt d'azote simulé par une analyse multi-modèle à l'échelle globale et d'autre part, avec les charges critiques d'eutrophisation existantes dans la littérature a permis une première évaluation de l'impact potentiel du dépôt total d'azote sur les écosystèmes tropicaux africains.

Coastal and estuarine environments are dynamic yet highly sensitive which makes them particularly susceptible to any changes dictated by external forces. The interaction between environmental forces and those imposed by humans who live and work in the area is a very delicate one and needs to be considered through an holistic management approach to ensure the maintenance of a sustainable equilibrium. The use of airborne remote sensing in the coastal zone has been employed and validated for the specific aims of suspended particulate matter (SPM) concentration and flux quantification in the Humber Estuary and sea-surface temperature and salinity determination in the Tweed Estuary. Routines for the effective radiometric, atmospheric, thermal and geometric correction of Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASQ and Airborne Thematic Matter (ATM) data were tested and enhanced. Validations at all stages were executed through comparison with sea-based optical data acquired coincident with the images. The data acquired from the sea-surface also yielded important information regarding the nature and content of the waters. Water classification techniques were addressed and a new algorithm for use in case II waters based on the Austin & Petzold (1981) K^{490) routine derived. A new algorithm to determine SPM concentration in the Humber Estuary from CASI images was successfully determined and validated. SPM flux estimates were ascertained through the incorporation of image data, hydrodynamic models and depth profiles determined from hydrographic charts. In the Tweed Estuary, ATM images were used to determine sea-surface temperature and salinity using thermal image calibration and comparison with surface monitoring. The results provide an hitherto unseen insight into the dynamics of the Humber and the Tweed Estuaries. In particular, information regarding SPM concentration and fluxes in the Humber supports the so far unproved hypothesis that most of the SPM moves into and out of the mouth in elongated streaks. The use of the width of a streak (or patch) to predict the SPM concentration and / or flux and so eliminate the necessity for surface-based monitoring was addressed. Algorithms to determine SPM concentration and flux were devised using patch size and within-patch water depth alone. A model to apply these algorithms to all data was unsuccessful due to the sparse temporal coverage of the image data. The analyses exemplified in this study give an invaluable insight into the forces at play in coastal and estuarine environments and would provide key information sources for hydrodynamic modellers and coastal zone managers.

L'estimation du flux de chaleur latente a la surface des oceans a partir de donnees satellites a ete peu etudiee a des echelles de temps inferieures au mois. Nous proposons dans cette these une methode simple de calcul, appliquee a l'ocean indien. Cette methode utilise diverses donnees satellites, et les champs du modele cepmmt. Les donnees satellites (ssm/i, avhrr, ami) permettent d'estimer les quantites physiques principales necessaires au calcul du flux de chaleur latente tandis que le modele cepmmt fournit une vue complete de la situation meteorologique. La precision des algorithmes de restitution des parametres physiques a partir de donnees satellites est tout d'abord evaluee sur la region de l'ocean indien. Nous utilisons les donnees avhrr pour estimer la temperature de surface de la mer, les donnees ssm/i pour connaitre le contenu integre en vapeur d'eau et une combinaison des donnees ami, ssm/i pour calculer l'intensite du vent de surface. Les donnees du cepmmt sont ensuite comparees aux quantites mesurees par ces capteurs. Nous analysons ainsi les ecarts observes entre les champs du modele et les champs issus des donnees satellites afin d'etablir une combinaison de l'ensemble de ces donnees. Une correction des profils d'humidite du modele est alors proposee. Cette correction utilise le contenu integre en vapeur d'eau deduit des donnees ssm/i et est basee sur les observations avhrr et ssm/i. L'ensemble des donnees utilisees devient alors coherent. Nous pouvons alors calculer le flux de chaleur latente pentadaire moyen a la surface de l'ocean indien

La variabilite spatiale et temporelle des foliations de tropopause est obtenue a partir de l'exploitation de deux bases de donnees de profils verticaux d'ozone, de temperature, d'humidite et de vent (radiosondages ozone/ptu/vent au centre d'archivage wodc et mesures aeroportees mozaic). La mise au point et la validation d'un algorithme de detection automatique des foliations sont presentees. Cet algorithme permet d'obtenir, a partir des deux bases de donnees, une climatologie de la frequence de l'occurrence des foliations au-dessus de l'hemisphere nord depuis trente ans. En combinant le nombre de foliations presentes simultanement en une surface et la quantite moyenne de molecules d'ozone transferees lors d'un evenement, des estimations du flux d'ozone entre la stratosphere et la troposphere, a l'echelle regionale et globale, sont realisees. L'estimation a l'chelle globale (hn) est comparee a celles obtenues par les modeles de circulation generale avec, au prealable, une reactualisation du rapport de l'ozone par la vorticite potentielle au niveau de la tropopause dynamique. Ce rapport est determine grace a une climatologie realisee au-dessus de differents sites de mesure d'ozone et a l'utilisation des analyses meteorologiques fournies par le centre europeen cepmmt.

" This research, conducted as part of IDAF (IGAC/DEBITS/AFrica*) program, is a contribution to the study of atmospheric constituent deposition on the surface of the earth, in tropical Africa. It concerns the study of atmospheric concentrations of nitrogen gases (ammonia, nitrogen dioxide, nitric acid), sulfur dioxide and ozone, and their dry deposition in West and Central Africa. The gases were measured on a monthly basis by the technique of passive samplers over a ten year period (1998-2007) at seven remote sites within the framework of the IDAF network. The sites are located to represent a transect of African ecosystems, i. E. , dry savanna-wet savanna - forest. The validation and the analysis of the decadal IDAF database of " IDAF gases " allowed to establish (1) the levels of surface gaseous concentration characteristic of each major ecosystem and (2) to study their monthly, seasonal, annual and interannual mean variations on the transect of ecosystems. Dry deposition fluxes were estimated by the inferential method based on dry deposition velocities (Vd) calculated using the "big leaf" model of Zhang et al. (2003b). In the model of deposition, surface and meteorological conditions specific to IDAF sites have been adapted and validated in order to simulate Vd representative of major African ecosystems. The monthly, seasonal and annual mean variations of gaseous dry deposition fluxes (NO2, HNO3, NH3, O3, and SO2) are analyzed. A budget of total nitrogen atmospheric deposition (dry + wet) is proposed at the African ecosystem scale. The total nitrogen deposition estimated is around 6-9 kgN. Ha-1. Yr-1, 7-10 kgN. Ha-1. Yr-1 and 13 kgN. Ha-1. Yr-1 respectively in dry savannas, wet savannas and forests, with a relative contribution of dry deposition in the gaseous form to the total nitrogen deposition between 46 and 71% for all ecosystems. We have also established an emission-deposition budget of oxidized and reduced nitrogen compounds for each IDAF station. This budget shows that the total emission flux have the same order of magnitude of annual mean nitrogen deposition for the savannas ecosystems but is lower in the forested ecosystem. Finally, a comparative analysis between IDAF measurements of nitrogen deposition and (1) a global multi-model exercise and (2) critical loads of eutrophication is presented over the African tropical ecosystems

Abstract (sommario):

This research evaluates the feasibility of combining Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements with high precision gravity observations over time as a tool to calculate the mass flux within an aquifer system. This study has three major components: long-period tidal gravity measurements, repeated gravity surveys, and GPS measurements. Long-period gravity measurements were used to determine the coefficients for the gravity data reduction algorithm. Lunar and Solar components of the tidal potential were determined from long-period records to be 1.12 and 1.16 respectively. The barometric correction was calculated to be 0.40 μGals/mbar at Eloy, Arizona, and 0.23 μGals/mbar at station WR52 in Tucson, Arizona. The gravimeter was found to be sensitive to temperature and to rate of change of temperature during long-period observations. In an ongoing project (since September, 1986) in cooperation with the Water Resources Division, U.S. Geological Survey, monthly gravity observations were made at two wells and a bedrock base station and near Eloy. By regressing gravity with static water level, a specific storage of 0.12 was determined. Gravity readings showed an annual periodicity with a 20 μGal amplitude and 25 μGals/year linear drift. Gravity observations were taken at 27 stations throughout the Tucson basin at 3 month intervals for 2 years. These data were tried to bedrock reference stations and gravity variations over time were integrated to determine change in subsurface mass with time (mass flux). Temporal gravity changes ranged from 0 to 25 μGals/month (equivalent to 0-60 cm of water) in various parts of the basin. Accuracy on the order of ±30 μGals was obtained and seasonal gravity changes observed. Regional gravity change resulting from regional recharge/discharge could not be observed using my survey design and equipment. The survey precision was not sufficient to yield reliable estimates of aquifer properties. Good GPS positioning vectors were obtained for 27 of the 100 surveys. Accuracy on the order of 1-5 ppm was obtained for most vectors. Using 1987 NGS GPS data as a baseline, my observations did not indicate differences above noise levels (2-10 cm vertical); thus subsidence was not yet detectable. This research has shown that gravity measurements are useful in monitoring ground-water conditions.

La connaissance du comportement des flux sanguins est une donnée clinique fondamentale. L'imagerie ultrasonore, couplée à des techniques Doppler, est souvent utilisée pour évaluer les vitesses de flux sanguins. Cependant, les techniques Doppler présentent quelques limitations notamment liées à la résolution spatiale des résultats et à la difficulté d'estimer des faibles vitesses. Dans cette thèse, nous avons proposé une approche basée sur des bancs de filtres spatiotemporels orientés pour l'estimation de champs denses de mouvement à partir de séquences d'images ultrasonores de flux. Le formalisme proposé a été présenté dans des contextes 2D puis 3D. Afin de valider notre méthode, nous avons utilisé des données simulées et expérimentales. A cet effet, nous avons proposé un cadre adapté à la simulation rapide de séquences d'images ultrasonores. Notre modèle de simulation a été validé en termes de statistiques du premier et deuxième ordre. La méthode d'estimation de mouvement proposée a été appliquée à des séquences de flux se déplaçant à faibles vitesses (~ 1mm/s) dans des vaisseaux de petites dimensions (~ 1mm). Les résultats obtenus ont montré un bon comportement global permettant de caractériser les flux étudiés. Une comparaison avec trois autres méthodes d'estimation de vitesses de flux a également permis de montrer que notre approche constituait un bon compromis en termes de précision et de complexité algorithmique.
