Henning Rohwer wird im Dorf Esau genannt, weil sein Vater sich dazu entschieden hat, die Erbfolge zu durchbrechen und seinen Bauernhof nicht dem erstgeborenen Henning zu übertragen, sondern dem zweiten geeigneteren Sohn Fritz. Fritz soll Anna Harder heiraten. Henning versucht, durch Anritzen des Pferdegeschirrs die Brautfahrt der beiden mit einem tödlichen Unfall enden zu lassen und sich auf diese Weise den Hof zurückzuerobern. Diese Geschichte, die in der 1975 posthum publizierten Baasdörper Krönk andeutungsweise enthalten ist, wurde von F.E. Peters zu Lebzeiten auf Hochdeutsch veröffentlicht. Sie erzählt von dem sozialen Abstieg eines Verstoßenen und den archaischen Selektionsmechanismen und Abwehrstrategien einer Dorfgemeinschaft, die Verstöße ihrer Mitglieder gegen den bäuerlichen Sitten- und Ehrenkodex hart ahndet.

What is the reader of the Bible to make of Esau, Jacob’s brother? Why is Israel’s neighbor Edom treated so harshly in the prophetic literature? And how might one understand the relationship of these traditions? This study engages these questions by offering a canonical reading of the Esau and Edom traditions of the Hebrew Bible in light of the theological issue of election, looking specifically at the portrayal of Esau and Edom in Genesis, Deuteronomy, and the prophetic material. First, it is argued that the depiction of Esau in Genesis is, on the whole, positive. Though the unchosen son, Esau is blessed and responds well to the challenges life presents him with. Thus, the unchosen brother is by no means cursed or excluded from the divine economy. These motifs find resonance in Deuteronomy, which in particular construes the issue of land possession in explicitly theological language, while reinforcing the kinship motif. Second, it is put forward that Edom is portrayed negatively by the prophets for violating a relationship of brotherhood, and for disrespecting the divine apportioning of the lands. It is this twofold rejection of their brother Israel as well as YHWH who has appointed the lands that helps account for the harsh message of the prophets. And third, it is suggested that these two traditions have resonance with one another based on their overarching theological concerns, heuristically labeled brotherhood and inheritance. Returning to the issue of election, it is proposed that these themes may helpfully be understood within the theological categories of divine initiative and human response, as the response of those involved is taken up in YHWH’s own responsiveness, whether in blessing or judgment.

The importance of the aura, the metaphysical element that gives art, artifacts, and other objects of cultural heritage their authenticity, has been heavily contemplated ever since the publication of Walter Benjamin's "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction." This thesis strives to add to this conversation and expand upon it by delving into the emergence of additive manufacturing, or what is more commonly known as 3D printing, and its relation to museums and other institutions that comprise the public humanities. This technology challenges the auratic properties of an exhibit by first digitizing it onto a computer by scanning it and then uploading this data to a 3D printer, which then proceeds to replicate the scanned exhibit down to incredibly fine details. For museums the possibility that 3D printed replicas, increasingly able to be indistinguishable from the original and capable of being produced in great numbers at ease, replacing their auratic exhibits is a very real possibility to consider. This thesis argues that some museums are responding by despatializing their exhibitions in order to uphold their auratic exhibits, while others are offsetting the potential loss by turning their exhibitions into tactile, multisensory experiences. Either option, which are not mutually exclusive, transforms the traditional museum. This thesis ultimately concludes that it's possible to reconcile the auratic exhibit with the 3D printed replica should these institutions properly adapt. Doing so will allow them to continue fulfilling their mission statements to preserve and promote the auratic exhibits well into the future.

Pri ha-Pardes (Früchte des Obstgartens) ist eine Reihe der Vereinigung für Jüdische Studien e.V., welche in Verbindung mit dem Institut für Jüdische Studien der Universität Potsdam publiziert wird. Pri ha-Pardes möchte kleineren wissenschaftlichen Studien, Forschungen am Rande der großen Disziplinen und exzellenten Masterarbeiten eine Publikationsplattform bieten. Der Erstgeburtsstreit der Brüder Jakob und Esau wird seit jeher ethnologisch rezipiert und diente von frühester Zeit an, sowohl auf jüdischer als auch auf christlicher Seite, in vielfacher Auslegung als Grundlage religiöser und ‚politischer’ Identitätsbildung. Im Zuge dieser Deutung geriet jedoch die Frage in den Hintergrund, weshalb Gott ausgerechnet den ‚Betrüger’ Jakob zum dritten Stammvater Israels erwählt. Im vorliegenden vierten Band dieser Reihe stellt sich Daniel Vorpahl genau diesem Problem und klärt in einer ausführlichen exegetischen Untersuchung der biblischen Jakob-Esau-Erzählung Hintergründe, Verlauf und Bedeutung des Betrugsfalls sowie dessen Folgen. O objetivo deste trabalho é sugerir uma análise detalhada do romance Essav (Esaú) pelo autor israelense Meir Shalev. O romance foi publicado em 1991, e é essencialmente uma espécie de saga, que transmite a história de algumas gerações de uma família judia, desde os primeiros dias da colonização sionista na terra de Israel. Meir Shalev começou a escrever no final dos anos oitenta e pertence à geração pós-modernista. Sua escrita mostra influências das características de seu tempo. Mesmo assim, ainda podemos detectar em seu trabalho tendências modernistas que estão sendo manifestadas na busca de encontrar um sentido para a vida e na tentativa de representar sua complexidade. A metodologia da análise detalhada do romance se baseia em várias fontes teóricas: a primeira é Close Reading, um termo cunhado por Richards, um dos líderes da escola nova crítica. O procedimento desta leitura é focar atentamente nas palavras escritas, na tentativa de descobrir e descrever todos os efeitos de suas relações linguísticas. Outra fonte metodológica é o ensaio famoso de Roland Barthes e sua afirmação de que o autor está morto. A morte do autor permite o nascimento do leitor que pode assumir novas autoridades para com o texto na frente dele. O \"dialogismo\" de Bakhtin fornece uma outra base teórica importante. Segundo esta teoria, qualquer expressão verbal provoca relações intertextuais com muitos outros discursos. Desde o romance Essav é rico em alusões e citações da Bíblia e da literatura ocidental, a intertextualidade é igualmente uma ferramenta interpretativa importante. A análise do romance começa com uma tentativa de descobrir os princípios que organizam a sua estrutura, o que pode parecer uma espécie de colagem ou uma colcha, feita de diferentes ítens que estão ligados sem qualquer orientação distinta. O romance apresenta um conceito de que os acontecimentos históricos são, na verdade, ciclos repetitivos. Uma tentativa de compreender a natureza do tempo é outro tema embutido nele. O romance também trata de questões humanas e as relações entre o homem, a terra e a natureza, elementos que recebem teor mitológico no romance. Estes temas estão também ligados à questão da ideologia sionista e seu impacto sobre a estratificação social das primeiras gerações de assentamento pioneiro. 6 Outros temas derivam da análise dos fundamentos bíblicos no romance, especialmente as histórias sobre o relacionamento e o destino dos gêmeos Jacó e Esaú. Temas centrais adicionais, típicos na poética de Meir Shalev, são aqueles de realização e perda e de relação entre a ficção e a realidade. Este ultimo tema é construído pelo uso massivo de citações e alusões à literatura mundial e por um estilo de narrativa de um trovador. Este estilo rompe a ilusão de realidade, salientando o ato de narrar em si só.
The purpose of this work is to suggest a detailed analysis of the novel Esav (Esau) by the Israeli author Meir Shalev. The novel was published in 1991, and is essentially, a type of saga, which conveys the story of four generations of Jewish family starting from the first days of Zionist settlements in the land of Israel. Meir Shalev, who started writing in the late eighties, belongs to the postmodernist generation, and his writing shows influences of the tendencies of his time. Even so, we can still detect in his work, clear modernist trends, which are being manifested in a search for meaning and in portraying the complexity of life. The methodology of the detailed analysis of the novel relies on several theoretical sources: the first is \'close reading, a term coined by Richards, one of the leaders of the new criticism school. The procedure of close reading focuses on the words on the page, in an attempt to discover and describe all the effects of their linguistic relations. Another methodological source is the famous essay of Roland Barthes and his assertion that the author is dead; the death of the author allows the birth of the reader, who can assume new authorities towards the text in front of him. Bakhtins Dialogism provides another important theoretical basis. According to this theory, any verbal utterance provokes intertextual relations with many other utterances. Since the novel Esav is rich with allusions and quotations from the Bible and Western literature, intertextuality is also an important interpretative tool. The analysis of the novel begins with an attempt to uncover the principles that organize its structure, which might appear to be a kind of collage or a quilt, made of different items that are attached together, without any distinct guideline. The novel presents a concept that historical events are actually repeating cycles. An attempt to understand the nature of time is another theme embedded in it. The novel also deals with human relationships and mans attitude to earth and nature, elements that receive a mythological design in the novel. These themes are also connected to the question of Zionist ideology and its impact on the social stratification of the early generations of pioneering settlement. More themes derive from the analysis of the role of the biblical infrastructure of the novel, especially the stories about the relationship and the fate of the twins Jacob and Esau. Other central themes, typical of Meir Shalevs poetics, are those of fulfillment and loss, and the relationship between fiction and reality. The last theme is established by a massive use of quotations and allusions to world-literature and by a narrative style of a troubadour. This style breaks the illusion of reality and thus, emphasizes the act of telling in itself.

Publicado em 1904, Esaú e Jacó, de Machado de Assis, é um romance que focaliza os costumes da sociedade burguesa na cidade do Rio de Janeiro no final do século XIX, tendo como cenário o contexto político de transição da monarquia para a república, onde se desenrolam cenas da vida carioca, da vida privada e da vida política. Um período histórico conturbado recriado pela narrativa machadiana, a qual nos provoca especulativas e intrigantes perguntas sobre os enigmas contidos no romance. No presente trabalho, Sigmund Freud é o autor, pensador da clínica e da cultura, convidado para dialogar com a obra machadiana. Os dois autores pertencem a países distintos e realidades sociais distintas, mas se aproximam na profícua relação entre o mundo das letras e os estudos da subjetividade. Apesar das diferenças, as obras dos dois autores expressam, cada uma à sua maneira, determinados temas de interesse dos intelectuais da passagem do século XIX para o XX: o desconhecido, o enigmático, o duplo, o ambíguo, o estranho, e outros. Machado de Assis é um escritor que, por meio de um enredo fictício, traduz em suas obras, a história, o espaço físico, o cotidiano e a subjetividade de uma sociedade. O romance Esaú e Jacó caracteriza-se por este efeito de realidade que se recria a cada nova leitura. Nesta perspectiva, o objetivo geral da presente pesquisa é analisar a subjetividade na narrativa de Esaú e Jacó. Para tanto, definimos como percurso principal o estudo da categoria freudiana “o inquietante” neste romance, estabelecendo assim, um estudo comparado entre a prosa machadiana e o discurso psicanalítico.
Published in 1904, Esau and Jacob, Machado de Assis, is a romance that focuses the customs of the bourgeois society of the Rio de Janeiro city of the end XIX century, having as scenario the political context of transition from monarchy to republic, where unrolls scenes of carioca life, private life and political life. A troubled historical period recreated by machadian’s narrative, which causes the speculative and intriguing questions about the puzzles contained in the novel. In the present work, Sigmund Freud is the author, thinker of clinic and culture, invited to dialogue with machadian’s work. The two authors belong to different countries and different social realities, but approaching the fruitful relationship between the world of literature and studies of subjectivity. Despite the differences, the works of the two authors express, each in its own way, certain topics of interest to intellectuals of the late XIX to the XX century: the unknown, the enigmatic, the double, the ambiguous, the stranger, etc. Machado de Assis is a writer who, through a fictional plot, reflects in his works the history, physical space, the everyday and the subjectivity of society. The Esau and Jacob romance, is characterized, by the fact that this effect is recreated with each new reading. In this perspective, the general objective of this research consisted as: to analyze the subjectivity in the narrative of Esau and Jacob. Therefore, we define as the main route to study the presence of “unsettling” (the “uncanny”) in this novel, establishing a comparative study between Machado’s prose and psychoanalytic discourse.

This thesis examines the first Citizenship School, its location, participants, and success. Johns Islanders, Esau Jenkins, Septima Clark, Myles Horton, Bernice Robinson, and the Highlander Folk School all collaborated to create this school. Why and how this success was reached is the main scope of this manuscript. Emphasis is also placed on the school's impact upon the modern Civil Rights Movement. Primary sources such as personal accounts, manuscripts, and archive collections were examined. Secondary sources were also researched for this manuscript. The conclusion reached from these sources is that faith was the driving force behind the success of the Citizenship School. The schools unlocked the chains of political, social, and economic disenfranchisement for Gullah Islanders and African Americans all over the South, greatly affecting the outcome of the Civil Rights Movement. African Americans, who had once been forced into second-class citizenship, now through faith and the vote, obtained first-class citizenship.

A tese estuda a composição de Esaú e Jacob, o penúltimo romance de Machado de Assis, publicado em 1904. Para isso concentra-se, inicialmente, no mapeamento de sua fortuna crítica. Em seguida, constrói um panorama histórico da lógica do duplo e da duplicidade estruturante de sua forma e estilo, desdobrados pelas figuras da ironia, da alusão e da alegoria, antes de poder colocar em questão o narrador e sua frenética oscilação de perspectivas. A reavaliação crítica do ponto de vista desse narrador irônico com um pensamento interior e único , aqui identificados ao conselheiro Ayres e à ideia de nada em cima de invisível, reconstrói o entendimento de vários episódios e movimentos da obra, fornecendo uma outra visão de personagens como Flora e de toda a composição. Um narrador que posto em seu contexto revela-se como faccioso ou como um verdadeiro impostor, a ponto de poder encobrir e liquidar toda esfera da alteridade, dando sinal exato, através da fantasia literária, da forma das relações sociais no país. O título e o subtítulo deste trabalho referem-se tanto à violência da representação tecida por esse narrador quanto à invisibilidade estrutural das práticas reificadas de uma sociedade cindida e completamente desigual, numa formação capitalista periférica, ainda fortemente marcada pelo escravismo e o paternalismo. O objetivo maior do trabalho é compreender como seu princípio construtivo deita raízes profundas, totalmente inaparentes à primeira vista, no solo desta formação social malograda, na longa transição do Império à República.
This thesis studies the composition of Esau and Jacob, Machado de Assiss next-to-last novel, published in 1904. In order to pursue this goal, the study concentrates initially on the mapping of the works critical fortune. Before questioning the narrator and his frenetic oscillation of viewpoints, a historical panorama is constructed of the logic of the double and of the duplicity structuring its form and style, which are unfolded by the figures of irony, allusion and allegory. Critical reappraisal of this ironic narrators perspective of a unique interior thought , here identified with counselor Ayres and with the idea of the nothing, on the top of the invisible reconstructs the understanding of various episodes and movements of the work, providing a new view of characters such as Flora and the whole composition. A narrator who, within his own context, reveals himself as factious or a true impostor, to the point of covering up and liquidating the whole sphere of otherness, yielding the exact trace, by means of the literary fantasy, of the form of social relations in the country. The title and subtitle of this study refer to the violence of the representation weaved by this narrator as well as to the structural invisibility of reified practices of a torn-apart and completely unequal society in a capitalist peripheral formation, still strongly marked by slavery and paternalism. The main objective of the thesis is to understand how the novels constructive principle takes deep roots, totally unapparent at first sight, into the soil of this failed social formation, in its long transition from Empire to Republic.

This paper presents the tracking systems currently used at ESA. Two systems are described: Meteosat Ranging System (MRS), and Multi-Purpose Tracking System (MPTS). The MRS is presently in operational use on Meteosat. It has been designed to meet the need for a simultaneous multi-point ranging in a channel shared with other services. As a result, a new code ranging technique, based on split-phase-level data formats, has been designed and developed. The MPTS (previously Deep Space Tracking System - DSTS) was first developed and deployed for the Giotto mission. At a later stage, a near-earth capability has been added to the system, thereby creating a truly multi-purpose tracking system. The ranging signal employed in the MPTS makes use of the good properties of both the PN code type of ranging system and the tone ranging system. The concept, architectural design, capabilities and performance of these systems are presented in this paper. Finally, insight into the European Data Relay Satellite and Data Relay User Satellite ranging systems is given.

Welding is today seen as one of the most dangerous professions on earth, mostly because of the toxic fumes. These fumes can lead to a variety of diseases and in worst case death. Now imagine this problem when you are working at different places every day and you can not always bring the equipment needed to protect your health since they are either too big or does not have enough capacity. This is a problem which welders that work at temporary workplaces have to face every day. With this project I have looked into this problem and come up with a product that makes the temporary workplaces safer and at the same time keeps an efficient workflow.

Pro gradu -tutkielmani liittyy laajempaan tutkimukseen, joka toteutetaan lastenpsykiatrian emeritaprofessorin Irma Moilasen ja lastenpsykiatrin klinikan professorin Hanna Ebelingin johdolla. Sen tarkoituksena on arvioida ja kehittää pienten lasten psyykkisten häiriöiden varhaista tunnistamista ja hoitoa, sillä tällä hetkellä autismikirjon häiriöitä diagnosoidaan vasta 3–4 vuoden iässä. Tutkimusaineisto koostui 470 perheestä saapuneista Early Screening of Autistic Traits (ESAT)-lomakkeista (1–2 kpl/perhe) sekä näitä lapsia koskevista terveydenhoitajien 1-vuotisneuvolan havainnointilomakkeista. Tässä tutkielmassa selvitettiin mitkä ESAT-lomakkeen kysymykset seulovat eniten autismikirjon suhteen riskissä olevia lapsia ja ovatko vanhempien antamat vastaukset ESAT-lomakkeissa yhteneviä. Terveydenhoitajien ja vanhempien vastausten välistä yhteneväisyyttä mitattiin poimimalla terveydenhoitajien 1-vuotisneuvolassa käyttämästä havainnointilomakkeesta ne kysymykset, joille löytyivät vastineet myös ESAT-lomakkeesta. Sen lisäksi vanhempien täyttämän syntymä, kasvu ja kehitys -lomakkeen avulla selvitettiin, miten aiemmissa tutkimuksissa määritellyt autismikirjon riskitekijät, eli äidin ikä, vanhempien koulutus, lapsen pieni päänympärys, ennenaikaisuus, pienipainoisuus, apgar-pisteet ja syntymän jälkeinen tehohoito, vaikuttivat jatkoseuloutumiseen. Tilastollisesti merkittäviä jatkoon seulovista kysymyksistä olivat ne, jotka käsittelivät leikin monipuolisuutta, tunteiden ilmaisua ja tarkoituksenmukaisuutta, sosiaalisuutta ja läheisyyttä. Sen lisäksi havaittiin, että vanhempien vastaukset olivat erittäin yhteneviä sekä keskenään että suhteessa terveydenhoitajien vastauksiin. Edellä mainittujen riskitekijöiden ja jatkoseuloutumisen väliltä ei tässä tutkielmassa löydetty yhteyttä. Tulokset olivat siis samansuuntaisia kuin aiemmissa tutkimuksissa, lukuun ottamatta yhteyttä edellä mainittujen vastasyntyneisyyskauden ja ympäristön riskitekijöiden sekä jatkoseuloutumisen välillä.

Abstract (sommario):

Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii is the causative agent of Stewartâ s wilt disease in maize plants. The bacteria are injected into the plant by corn flea beetles during feeding. They colonize the xylem and overproduce a capsular exopolysaccharide (EPS) at high cell densities. The production of EPS is regulated by an EsaI/EsaR quorum sensing mechanism, homologous to the LuxI/R system. Although activation of the EPS encoding genes by EsaR occurs after it complexes to the AHL (3-oxo-C6-HSL), unlike the LuxI/R system, this activation occurs by a different mechanism. At low cell densities, dimerized EsaR acts as a repressor. At a high cell population, derepression of the EPS genes occurs via an unknown mechanism once the AHL complexes to EsaR. Hence, a random mutagenesis genetic approach to isolate EsaR* variants that are immune to the effects of AHL has been utilized. Error-prone PCR and site-directed mutagenesis were used to generate desired mutants, which were subsequently screened for their ability to repress transcription in the presence of AHL. Several individual amino acids playing a critical role in the AHL-insensitive phenotype have been identified and mapped onto a homology model of EsaR. A separate study attempted to localize the dimerization region and analyze the stability of the N-terminal domain of EsaR. Truncations of EsaR at amino acids 169 and 178, without and with the extended linker region respectively, were generated using PCR. Dimerization assays similar to those by Choi and Greenberg in 1991 were performed but proved to be unsuccessful. However, the N-terminal domain is stable as determined by western blotting, which may facilitate its future structural analysis. Together, these efforts have contributed to the molecular understanding of AHL-dependent derepression of EsaR.

Porque la historia y la sociología que aquí aparecen son ocupadas como herramientas de caracterización y deducción para la elaboración de una obra. Considero una herramienta imprescindible en el qué hacer artístico la investigación histórica para entender el sentido, el valor del signo de cualquier construcción cultural. Dado que el arte contemporáneo se vale prácticamente de cualquier material, objeto o medios, la selección y puesta en relación de dichos elementos en una obra debe ser problematizada y anclada a un lugar y tiempo específico. Para esto es imprescindible recurrir a las fuentes historiográficas, para entender el origen y la deriva de dichos elementos con el propósito de comprender su valor específico en la relación que establecen en una obra. Así, el texto que sigue es, a grosso modo, una caracterización, a ratos histórica y política, con el propósito de deducir una forma que daría cuenta, simbólicamente, de Chile como una hacienda post-industrial.

In Zimbabwe, the Economic Structural Adjustment Programme (ESAP) was introduced in 1991, at which time, intense office development activities started in the Harare City Centre. The fundamental aim of this study, therefore, was to identify and explain the driving forces behind office development activities in the Harare City Centre during ESAP (1991-5). Effort was made to reveal the effects of ESAP on the office development process. Three hypotheses from neo-classical (supply and demand), Marxist structuralism (circuits of capital) and structuration (structure and agency) perspectives were proposed to identify and explain the forces driving office development in the Harare City Centre during ESAP. Twenty-four development sites formed the population of properties identified for the study, of which six were selected for detailed examination. This research established that during the early phases of ESAP, demand for office space was fairly robust. With further property development, full occupation of the new space could be achieved only through tenant relocations and 'sweetheart' deals to seduce tenants into occupying new offices. Direct foreign participation in the Harare office development was not significant at all. That was mainly due to a combination of prohibitive legislation relating to foreign investment in property, and the failure of Zimbabwe to compete as an attractive investment destination for global capital. However, important structural changes such as planning policy and practice, reduction of the prescribed asset ratios of institutional investments, increases in inflation and so forth, were identified. Historically, institutional investors were underweight in property and, therefore, used the opportunity to select properties consistent with their long term objectives. It was concluded that the structure and agency approach presented an explanation of the Harare Office development superior to that of the other perspectives. Although ESAP facilitated the procurement of world class facilities and finishes, it had negative implications for the construction industry through high inflation, increases in building costs, the closure of firms and general economic decline.

Esta pesquisa fez um mapeamento de tipos de atividades de leitura em livros de Inglês Instrumental utilizados na UFSC; realizou uma investigação correlata em salas de aula; observou a ressonância que tipos diferentes de atividades de leitura podem exercer na motivação, e reflexão crítica dos alunos. O primeiro estudo sondou a predominância de tipos de atividades em 6 livros de Inglês Instrumental; o segundo pesquisou as tarefas dominantes nas aulas de 4 professores; o terceiro investigou a reação de alunos de 3 turmas, perante dois blocos de tipos diferentes de atividades. As observações, transcrições das aulas, e questionários, foram os instrumentos utilizados para análise dos dados. O arcabouço teórico de Davies (1995), de atividades 'passivas' e 'ativas', deu respaldo aos estudos. Os resultados atestam a predominância de atividades 'ativas' nos livros analisados e nas aulas de 3 dos 4 professores observados. Constatou-se também mais motivação, e mais evidências de leitura crítica, durante o uso de tarefas 'ativas'. Tópicos como, instrução baseada no uso de tarefas, demanda cognitiva de diferentes tipos de atividades, diferenças individuais de estilo de ensino/aprendizagem, pensamento crítico, e independência do aprendiz, serviram como aparato teórico para a pesquisa. Outras descobertas importantes foram: que a delimitação entre o que Davies (1995) coloca como atividade 'passiva' ou 'ativa' parece não ser clara, não proporcionando flexibilidade para a variação de demanda cognitiva imposta por cada tipo de tarefa; a maneira de condução das atividades também parece ser mais crucial do que supunha a premissa inicial.

A Valparaiso, en 1905, un émigrant français, Emile Dubois, est exécuté bien qu'il clame son innocence dans la série d'assassinats dont on l'accuse. A partir de ce fait divers, l'écrivain chilien Carlos Droguett écrit un feuilleton "Dubois, artista del crimen", publié dans le journal "Extra" de 1946 à 1947. Vingt-quatre ans plus tard, il obtient le prix Alfaguara pour le roman "Todas esas muertes", qui reprend et développe le feuilleton précédemment cité. C'est précisément à la genèse de ce roman que s'attache cette thèse dont la particularité est de présenter le texte du feuilleton en regard du texte romanesque. Dans un premier temps, le processus de fictionnalisation du fait divers, opéré par l'auteur chilien, nourrit notre propros qui s'attache alors à l'étude des sources utilisées. L'analyse porte ainsi sur la presse contemporaine de l'événement qui a inspiré ces fictions, plus précisément sur le quotidien "El Mercurio de Valparaíso", mais surtout sur une biographie romancée que nos recherches ont mise au jour, "La verdadera historia de Dubois. Las Memorias del célebre criminal", afin de déterminer l'influence de ces sources sur les oeuvres de Carlos Droguett en question. Puis l'étude de la genèse de "Todas esas muertes" se poursuit à travers l'annotation du texte du roman, comparé à celui du feuilleton, par la mise en évidence des différences actantielles, thématiques et linguistiques qui apparaissent entre les deux oeuvres.

The LuxR protein family is a class of quorum-sensing regulated bacterial transcription factors that alter gene expression as a function of ligand detection. This coincides with a high population density and/or a low rate of signal ligand diffusion. The majority of LuxR proteins are activated only in the presence of the signal ligand, an acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL). EsaR, from the corn pathogen Pantoea stewartii, represents a subset of LuxR homologues that are active in the absence of AHL and deactivated by its presence. The mechanism by which EsaR responds to AHL in a manner opposite to that of the majority of LuxR homologues remains elusive. Unlike the majority of LuxR homologues, which require AHL for purification, EsaR can be purified and biochemically investigated in the absence and presence of AHL. This work sought to answer questions regarding the structure-function relationship of the LuxR homologue, EsaR. Fluorescence anisotropy was used to determine the relative DNA-binding affinity of wild type EsaR and three AHL-independent EsaR variants in the presence and absence of AHL. This enabled for quantitative analysis of the relative binding affinities of these AHL-independent variants for the EsaR binding site, the esa box. The results demonstrate that one AHL-independent EsaR variant has a slightly higher affinity for the esa box in the presence, rather than the absence of AHL. The affinity of the other two for the DNA is not impacted by AHL, potentially due to an inability to transduce the signal of ligand detection to the DNA binding domain. Constructs containing only the EsaR N-terminal domain (NTD) were also developed. These constructs circumvented solubility issues associated with the full-length protein, allowing for additional biochemical analysis. It was determined that the EsaR NTD alone is sufficient for multimerization and ligand binding. Additionally, preliminary X-ray crystallography efforts have established some of the early parameters required to solve the crystal structure of the EsaR ligand binding domain in both the presence and absence of AHL. If pursued, these structures would be the first solved of a LuxR homologue ligand binding domain in both the presence and absence of the native AHL, potentially demonstrating the conformational change that occurs as a result of ligand binding. Collectively, these findings have established some of the groundwork required to resolve the question of what sort of conformational changes occur in EsaR as a result of ligand binding.

Several techniques for measuring humidity are presented. The goal of the study is to use the electrostatic self-assembled monolayer synthesis process to fabricate a Fabry-Parot Cavity based optical fiber humidity sensor. The sensing scheme bases on the refractive index change with relative humidity of the film applied to the end of optical fiber. That is, the change in reflected optical power indicates certain humidity. To achieve this, some chemicals induce on specific coating materials were applied at the end of optical fiber. In this thesis, experimental results are given to prove that the humidity sensor has high sensitive and fast response time. Furthermore, we investigate the potential for the use of human breathing monitoring and air flow rate detection. Results from preliminary tests of each are given.

Foram realizadas amostragens temporais e longitudinais. As amostragens temporais foram realizadas em um ponto de amostragens durante um ciclo completo de mar?, meso-mar? semi-diurna, a intervalos de 1h. As amostragens longitudinais foram realizadas em tr?s esta??es ao longo do estu?rio realizadas durante as estofas de preamar e baixa-mar e cada ciclo de mar?. Ambas as amostragens foram realizadas nos ?pices dos regimes de mar? de siz?gia e de quadratura nas esta??es seca e chuvosa, agosto de 2007 e janeiro de 2008, respectivamente. Durante as amostragens temporais foram medidos dados de corrente para a determina??o dos fluxos e balan?os de propriedades. Mano bakalauro darbas vadinasi “Matai, čia esu aš”. Šio darbo tikslas – panaudojant šiuolaikines išraiškos priemone ir technologiją įdomiai pateikti mane dominusią problemą: aktoriaus menamo personažo ir paties aktoriaus asmenybės sutapatinimas žiūrovo sąmonėje. Kuris yra tikrasis? Kuriuo lengviau būti? Ką apskritai reiškia būti savimi? Šiuo darbu noriu atkreipti mūsų dėmesį į tai, kad toks sutapatinimas neskatina žiūrovo kritiškai mąstyti, o aktorius būna labai destruktyvus, pavyzdžiui, skaudus V. Šapranausko atvėjis. Temą pateikti pasirinkau reklaminio plakato formą. Tačiau formatas nestandartinis – trys plakatai 70x290 (cm), atspausta ant audinio. Tai yra mano fotografuoti konkrečių aktorių portretai. Dalis veido yra aktorius realiame gyvenime, dalis su jo kuriamo personažo grimu. Papildoma priemonė dviprasmiškumui pabrėžti – dalinamas į spalvotą ir nespalvotą dalis. Portretai yra papildomi C. Chandler “Aš, Fellini” knygos mintimis apie aktoriaus darbą ir pateikiama pagrindinė darbo žinutė “Matai, čia esu aš”. Tokį plakatų dydį ir technologiją pasirinkau todėl, kad yra numatyta plakatus eksponuoti skirtingose aplinkose. Didelis mastelis tam, kad plakatai taptų ryškiu aplinkos akcentu, o atspaudas ant audinio pasirinktas tam, kad būtų lengva transportuoti ir eksponuoti. Atlikdama šį darbą turėjau pademonstruoti gebėjimus pabrėžti problemą, pasirinkti išraiškias priemones, labiausiai atitinkančias mano situacijoje. My Bachelor’s final thesis is titled "Look this is me". The aim - use of modern means of expression and technology to give perception of this problem: the character of an actor and the actor's personal identification in the minds of the viewer. Which is true? Which is easier to be? What does it mean to be true yourself? This work is trying to draw our attention to the fact that such identification does not encourage the viewer to think critically, and the actor is very destructive like in such severe case as V. Šapranauskas. This topic was chosen to be presented in a promotional poster form: non-standard format - three posters 70x290 (cm), printed on fabric. Portraits of specific actors were used from my personal photo shoot. Half of an actor’s face is from a real life and the other part is made with a makeup which represents its character. An additional measure to emphasize the ambiguity – photo division into colored and black and white parts. These portraits has added thoughts from a book of C. Chandler, "I, Fellini" and the main thesis message "Look this is me". The exact size and technology was chosen because this poster is supposed to be exhibited in different environments and places: a large scale in order to make posters bright and ambient accent and the printing on the fabric - for an easy transportation and display. The Serinha?m estuary is located in the south of Bahia state, about 110km from Salvador, within the limits of the Ituber? municipality, between parallels 13 ? 30 'and 14 ? 00' South latitude and meridians 38 ? 50 ' and 39 ? 40 'West longitude, ending up in the Camamu Bay. It is located on the coastal part of the Environmental Protection Area (APA acronym in portuguese) of Pratigi inside the Ecopolo III. Exist in this area a low level of development of human activities, compared with other estuaries from Brazil and over the world. At the same time, it was found a lack of environmental studies, such as salinity and tidal estuary. In this work we studied the behavior of salinity in the estuary of Serinha?m, starting from the understanding of salt exchange process between the river and the sea. The study was approached from a systemic point of view, considering the different components of physical and geographical environment, hydrology, climate, morphology, oceanography, etc., in the regional and local context in which it is inserted. It was divided into three stages; first a literature review and survey of initial data, following later by collection of salinity and tidal data during five campaigns occurred in April, July and December 2014, August and September 2015. The salinity?s samples were collected at 137 stations along the estuary, with an optical refractometer and a multiparameter device Hanna. The tide stations were placed on the docks of Ituber? and Barra Serinha?m ports, using first two rules of tide and in the second measurement, three prototypes of autonomous automatic ultrasonic digital tide gauges, constructed and electronically calibrated in the lab. Finally, we done the office works, where the results of data collected were processed and represented in a GIS environment. It was concluded that there is a difference in salinity? seasonal behavior of the estuary, and that the presence of extreme events such as "El Ni?o" and "La Ni?a" can influence the behavior of salinity. Four elements rules the salinity of the estuary, the morphotectonic that controls the relief of the bottom; the tributaries; the tide and rainfall. The tides were classified as microtidal in December 2014 and August 2015; and as mesotidal in September 2015, due to the influence of syzygy tides during the spring equinox. The estuary was classified according to the salinity as positive; according to the flow rate, as thoroughly mixed and by the movement patterns as well blended or vertically homogeneous. These results are expected to contribute to future updates of the management plans of APA-Pratigi.
O estu?rio de Serinha?m est? situado no baixo sul do estado da Bahia, aproximadamente a 110Km de Salvador, dentro dos limites do munic?pio de Ituber?, entre os paralelos 13?30' e 14?00' de latitude Sul e meridianos 38?50' e 39?40' de longitude Oeste, desembocando na Ba?a de Camamu. Encontra-se na parte costeira da ?rea de Prote??o Ambiental (APA) do Pratigi, dentro do Ec?polo III. Nesta zona existe um baixo n?vel de desenvolvimento das atividades antr?picas em compara??o com outros estu?rios, do Brasil e do mundo. Ao mesmo tempo foi constatada a escassez de estudos ambientais, como salinidade e mar? do estu?rio. Neste trabalho estudou-se o comportamento da salinidade no estu?riodo Serinha?m, a partir da compreens?o do processo de interc?mbio salino entre o rio e o mar. O estudo foi abordado do ponto de vista sist?mico, considerando os diferentes componentes do meio f?sico-geogr?fico, hidrografia, clima, morfologia, oceanografia, etc., no contexto regional e local onde est? inserido. Foi dividido em tr?s etapas, primeiramente a revis?o bibliogr?fica e levantamento de dados iniciais, posteriormente foi realizada coleta de dados de salinidade e mar?, em cinco campanhas nos meses de abril, julho e dezembro de 2014, agosto e setembro de 2015. As amostras de salinidade foram coletadas em 137 esta??es ao longo do estu?rio, com um Refract?metro ?tico e um aparelho multipar?metroHanna. As esta??es de mar? foram colocadas nos Cais dos Portos de Ituber? e da Barra do Serinha?m, utilizando primeiramente dois r?guas de mar? e na segunda medi??o, 3 prot?tipos de mare?grafos digitais ultrass?nicos autom?ticos aut?nomos, constru?dos e calibrados eletronicamente no laborat?rio. Por ?ltimo os trabalhos de gabinete, onde foram processados os resultados das coletas de dados e espaceados num ambiente SIG. Foi poss?vel concluir que existe uma diferen?a no comportamento sazonal da salinidade do estu?rio, a presen?a de eventos extremos como ?El Ni?o? e ?La Ni?a? podem condicionar o comportamento da salinidade. Quatro elementos controlam a salinidade do estu?rio, a morfotect?nica que controla o relevo de fundo; os rios afluentes; a mar? e as precipita??es. As mar?s foram classificadas como micromar?s em dezembro de 2014 e agosto de 2015, e setembro de 2015 como mesomar?, pela influ?ncia das mar?s de siz?gia equinociais de primavera. O estu?rio foi classificado segundo a salinidade como positivo; segundo a taxa de fluxo, como totalmente misturado e pelos padr?es de circula??o comobem misturado ou verticalmente homog?neo. Com esses resultados, espera-se contribuir para as futuras atualiza??es dos planos de manejo da APA-Pratigi.

This work aims to make a comparative analysis between Esaú e Jacó by, Machado de Assis and Dois Irmãos, Milton Hatoum, intends to study the interwoven processes in the path of creative activity on the tessitura of these two productions. From the reading of these works, it is possible to infer convergent aspects such as the subversion of some novelistic conventions, breaking expectations of readings, but the main difference is the different way in both the construction of the characters as the narrative genre that point; while Esau e Jacó is appealing the epic Dois Irmãos opts tragic. Thus, the study starts from the hypothesis that both have much adhesion as a movement of revulsion to novelistic models. Seek to illustrate the process of building both as well as the similarities and differences. To do so, we will expose our considerations into four chapters. In the first chapter we present a summary of the panel on Comparative Literature, Theory of the novel, the epic genre and its metamorphosis into romance so that we can monitor developments that romance has suffered over time. The second chapter will deal specifically with the construction process of Esaú e Jacó and their structural elements and their main intertextualities. In the third work the procedure of construction work Dois Irmãos have a parameter in the construction of its protagonists, the elements of the Dionysian and Apollonian aspects, in addition to having conversations with some of the major Greek tragedies and the Bible finally confront the similarities and divergent aspects in the paths taken by the two works.
Esta dissertação tem por objetivo realizar uma análise comparada entre os romances Esaú e Jacó, de Machado de Assis, e Dois irmãos, de Milton Hatoum. Pretende-se estudar os processos imbricados no percurso da atividade criadora da tessitura dessas duas produções. A partir da leitura dessas duas obras, é possível depreender aspectos convergentes, como a subversão de algumas convenções romanescas, a quebra de expectativas de leituras, mas o diferencial principal é o caminho distinto percorrido no engendramento tanto na construção dos personagens quanto na urdidura do gênero narrativo que apontam; enquanto Esaú e Jacó envereda pelo épico, Dois irmãos opta pelo trágico. Sendo assim, este estudo parte da hipótese de que as duas obras, apresentam simultaneamente um movimento de adesão e repulsa aos modelos romanescos. Procurar-se-á ilustrar o processo de construção de ambas as obras assim como as semelhanças e divergências. Para tanto, as considerações serão expostas em três capítulos. O primeiro, lidará especificamente, com o processo de construção de Esaú e Jacó e seus elementos estruturais, assim como suas principais intertextualidades. O segundo, trabalhará com o procedimento de construção da obra Dois irmãos, que tem por parâmetro na construção de seus protagonistas, os elementos dos aspectos dionisíaco e apolíneo, além de manter diálogos com algumas das principais tragédias gregas e com a Bíblia. Por último, faremos um confronto a partir das semelhanças e dos aspectos divergentes nos caminhos trilhados pelas duas obras.

Introduktion/Bakgrund: För att systematiskt kartlägga palliativa patienters symtom så rekommenderas att vårdpersonal använder sig av bedömningsinstrument. Ett av de rekommenderade bedömningsinstrumenten i Nationell vårdplan för palliativ vård, är Edmonton Symptom Assessment System, ESAS. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva effekten som användningen av ESAS har vid palliativ vård. Metod: Denna litteraturstudie har genomförts i enlighet med Polit och Becks (2017) nio steg. Databaserna PubMed och CINAHL användes för att inhämta data som sedan kvalitetsgranskades enligt Polit och Becks (2017) granskningsmallar. Induktiv ansats användes. Studiens resultat utgjordes av 13 artiklar som i sin tur ledde till fyra kategorier. Resultat: ESAS kunde identifiera flera symtom, medförde att symtom inte förbisågs och påvisade symtomkluster. Instrumentet var ett samtalsstöd och medverkade till en mer personcentrerad vård. ESAS träffsäkra symtombedömning leder till mer personcentrerad vård. Fyra kategorier identifierades; “Öppnar upp för samtal,” “Personcentrerad symtombedömning,” “Stöd vid symtomhantering och fördelning av resurser” och “Förbättrad livskvalitet.” Slutsats: ESAS erbjuder systematik vid bedömningar, vid uppföljning av symtom samt vid utvärdering av interventioner. Användningen av ESAS minskar risken för att förbise symtom. Bedömningar leder till tidigare implementering att palliativa behandlingar samt reducerar risken att utveckla långvariga problematiska symtom. Bedömningar med ESAS kan leda till en mer skräddarsydd symtomhantering och ökad livskvalitet.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a representação da cidade no romance Esaú e Jacó, de Machado de Assis. O Rio de Janeiro foi palco de inúmeras transformações nos mais variados campos (no econômico, no político e no social) ao longo do século XIX. A fim de entender esse processo, bem como de perceber seus reflexos nos episódios narrados, percorremos as inúmeras alusões acerca do universo urbano tanto no plano físico (nas ruas, na cidade, nas gentes e na moda) quanto no plano extrafísico (na economia, na religião e nos hábitos das personagens). Realizamos também uma leitura de ordem metafórica do texto que nos permitiu vislumbrar alguns símbolos de modernidade e primitivismo velados pela maestria do bruxo do Cosme Velho, os quais são percebidos nos transportes, nas tabuletas e nos gêmeos. A partir da decodificação dos signos citadinos, conseguimos compreender aquela sociedade e as vicissitudes enfrentadas em tempos de modernização.
The main purpose of this work is to analyze the representation of the city inside the novel Esaú e Jacó, by Machado de Assis. Rio de Janeiro city suffered lots of transformations in the most different fields political, economic and social during the 19th century. In order to become conscious about this process, as well as be aware of its reflections inside the novel, we searched the several mentions about the urban universe concerning the physical aspects (streets, the city as a whole, the people, and the fashion), and the extra-physical ones (economy, religion and characters’ habits). Besides that, we introduced a metaphorical reading that made us realize some symbols of the modernity and primitivism in the capital hidden in the text by the geniality of the author, and they can be seen, in some way, in the means of transportation, on the signboards, and in the twins. Through the decodification of the urban signs, we could understand that society and the vicissitudes faced in times of modernization.

Estuaries are coastal environments ephemeral life in geological time, derived from the drowning of the shoreline as a function of elevation relative sea level. Such parallel systems is characterized by having two sources of sediment, the river and the sea. The study area comprises the Acu River estuary, located on the northern coast of Rio Grande do Norte State, in a region of intense economic activity, mainly focused on the exploration of oil onshore and offshore, likely to accidental spills. In the oil sector are developed for salt production, shrimp farming, agriculture, fisheries and tourism, which by interacting with sensitive ecosystems, such as estuaries, may alter the natural conditions, thus making it an area susceptible to contamination is essential in understanding the morphodynamic variables that occur in this environment to obtain an environmental license. Information about the submarine relief the estuaries are of great importance for the planning of the activity of environmental monitoring, development and coastal systems, among others, allowing an easy management of risk areas, and assist in the creation of thematic maps of the main aspects of landscape. Morphodynamic studies were performed in this estuary in different seasonal periods in 2009 to observe and quantify morphological changes that have occurred and relate these to the hydrodynamic forcing from the river and its interaction with the tides. Thus, efforts in this area is possible to know the bottom morphology through records of good quality equipment acquired by high resolution geophysical (side-scan sonar and profiler current by doppler effect). The combination of these data enabled the identification of different forms of bed for the winter and summer that were framed in a lower flow regime and later may have been destroyed or modified forms of generating fund scheme than the number according Froude, with different characteristics due mainly to the variation of the depth and type of sedimentary material they are made, and other hydrodynamic parameters. Thus, these features background regions are printed in the channel, sandy banks and muddy plains that border the entire area
Estu?rios s?o ambientes costeiros de vida ef?mera no tempo geol?gico, derivados do afogamento da linha de costa em fun??o da eleva??o relativa do n?vel do mar. Tal sistema par?lico se caracteriza por ter duas fontes de sedimentos, a fluvial e a marinha. A ?rea em estudo compreende o Estu?rio do rio A?u, localizado no litoral setentrional do estado do Rio Grande do Norte, que se encontra em uma regi?o de intensa atividade econ?mica, principalmente voltada ?s atividades de explora??o de petr?leo onshore e offshore, pass?veis de derrames acidentais. Al?m da atividade petrol?fera s?o desenvolvidas produ??o de sal marinho, carcinicultura, agricultura, pesca e turismo, que ao interagir com ecossistemas sens?veis, como no caso dos estu?rios, podem modificar as condi??es naturais, tornando assim uma ?rea suscept?vel a contamina??es sendo essencial o entendimento das vari?veis morfodin?micas que ocorrem nesse ambiente para obten??o de licenciamento ambiental. Informa??es a respeito do relevo submarino dos estu?rios s?o de grande import?ncia para o planejamento da atividade de monitoramento ambiental, evolu??o e din?mica costeira, entre outros, possibilitando num f?cil gerenciamento de ?reas de risco, al?m de ajudar na cria??o de mapas tem?ticos dos principais aspectos da paisagem. Estudos morfodin?micos foram realizados neste estu?rio em diferentes per?odos sazonais no ano de 2009 a fim de observar e quantificar as mudan?as morfol?gicas ocorridas e correlacion?-las com as for?antes hidrodin?micas proveniente da a??o fluvial, bem como sua intera??o com as mar?s. Desta forma, os trabalhos realizados nesta ?rea possibilitaram o conhecimento da morfologia de fundo atrav?s de registros de boa qualidade adquiridos por equipamentos geof?sicos de alta resolu??o (sonar de varredura lateral e perfilador de corrente por efeito doppler). A jun??o destes dados possibilitou a identifica??o de diferentes tipos de formas de leito para o per?odo de inverno e ver?o que antes eram enquadradas em um regime de fluxo inferior e que posteriormente podem ter sido destru?das ou modificadas gerando formas de fundo de regime superior segundo o n?mero de Froude, com caracter?sticas diferenciadas devido principalmente ? varia??o da profundidade e ao tipo de material sedimentar que s?o constitu?dos, al?m de outros par?metros hidrodin?micos. Abstract (sommario):

The LuxR family of proteins serves as quorum-sensing transcriptional regulators in proteobacteria. At high population densities, a small acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) molecule, produced by a LuxI homologue, accumulates in the environment. The LuxR proteins bind to their respective AHL when the ligand accumulates to sufficient levels. Once bound to AHL, the holoproteins usually become functional as transcriptional activators. However, there is a subset of LuxR homologues, the EsaR subfamily, which is active without the AHL ligand and becomes inactivated once bound to it. EsaR is the best understood member of this subfamily. It controls virulence in the corn pathogen Pantoea stewartii ssp. stewartii. Solubility issues have previously limited structural studies of LuxR homologues as the proteins could not be purified without the AHL ligand. A soluble recombinant EsaR protein, HMGE, is biologically active and can be purified in the absence and presence of AHL, unlike most other LuxR homologues. Using HMGE, amino acid substitutions and Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), experimental methods were designed for determining the dimerization interface of EsaR and for testing the hypothesis that EsaR undergoes a conformational shift when presented with the AHL ligand. To identify residues of the dimerization interface, heterodimerization assays were designed, involving either coexpression or coincubation of wild-type EsaR and variant HMGE proteins. In this assay, the inability of the proteins to copurify by nickel affinity chromatography would indicate that the modified residue(s) are important for dimerization of EsaR. To determine the conformational change that EsaR undergoes when bound to the AHL ligand, a FRET assay was developed to estimate the distances between amino acid residues in the absence and presence of AHL. Future work will have to include a few modifications to the methods and/or control experiments. This study provides the basis upon which the present methods can be further developed and later used for structural studies of EsaR.
