Testo completoBased on an ethnographic approach, this dissertation work constitutes an inquiry into the upholding of collective meals within French nursing homes dedicated to the care of dependent elderly populations (Ehpad). Recommended by public health policies and the professional literature as a token of care and sociability, the communal meal is none the less a daily trial within establishments, which commands practical adjustments in order to match, to the extent possible, the social expectations it crystallizes. Because each day it requires residents to be gathered, concentrates community living, we examine it as a particular socializing arrangement for the dependent elderly population. Hence the two lines of analysis we have favored. Firstly, we intend to grasp the Ehpad communal meal as the result of a specific labor: a set of ways of doing and saying that affecl residents, the focal aims of which laying with incorporating food and maintaining social arrangements. Secondly, by analyzing professional embarrassment that this work involves, as well as matching forms ol oppositions on residents' part, we overcome the mere medicalization of behaviors. Inquiry materials comprise participant observation in three establishments as an intern within the restaurant services, together with an analysis of professional best practices written by the French higher health authority and the French national agency for the evaluation of social and medico-social services. Through a review of the biomedical literature, apprehending the gap between norms and practices is placed in a widen reference space, where undernourishment is being built in a scholarly fashion. At last, a historical perspective of the Ehpad meal, through considering late XlXth century hospice meals as well as resulting medical theories on great-age nutrition, brings out the evolutions of elderly's treatment through consumptions. Across this dissertation, we have inquired into the government of bodies, in its disposition to produce hopes as foi maintaining the material and symbolic life of individuals known to be vulnerable and to soon face death

Testo completoNowadays, there are not many tools that allow IOS developer community implement applications oriented to multi-display environments and, additionally, to fulfill what is described by Ensemble Interactions and the design patterns defined for these environments, which are concepts that propose the joint work of all available devices in the same environment. On the other hand, of the few tools that allow the development of such applications, some have been implemented by large companies that also develop mobile devices and limit their tools to work with only those devices from their own. Therefore, this paper seeks to implement a tool that allows IOS developer communitydevelop mobile applications for multiple devices environments that meet what is described by Ensemble Interactions and design patterns. This tool base the interaction between devices on a Wi-Fi network without access to the internet and Bluetooth. Then, in the first chapter the project and its management will be discussed. Then, the theoretical framework on which this work is based. The third chapter will analyze in detail the current status of all tools and technologies that allow the development of multi-display environments applications. Then, the fifth chapter will describe the methodology employed in the development of this project and the results obtained. In the sixth chapter, the final product of labor and management measures taken during its development will be presented. Finally, conclusions and recommendations proposed in this work are listed.

Ensemble regression (ER) is a linear inversion technique that uses ensemble statistics from atmospheric model output to make dynamical inferences and forecasts. ER defines a multivariate regression operator using ensemble forecasts and analyses to determine the most probable predict and perturbation associated with the prescribed predictor perturbation resolved by linear combinations of the predictor ensemble anomalies. Because it employs flow-dependent ensemble data, as opposed to the stationary time series data typically used to make statistical forecasts, ER is capable of modeling synoptic scale processes with rapidly evolving covariances. This characteristic is applied in several ways. Firstly, it is shown that the classical dynamical piecewise potential vorticity (PV) inversion of the PV perturbation effectively resolved by the ER operator yields nearly identical geopotential heights to those deduced from an ER performed in the subspace of the leading PV singular vectors. Secondly, using the example of the lagged sensitivity of tropical cyclone tracks to preexisting midtropospheric heights, ER is used to infer dynamical relationships from statistical sensitivities, to identify, in real-time, the dynamical processes that are particularly relevant to specific forecast decisions, and to make preemptive forecasts. Thirdly, it is shown that singular vectors deduced from the ER operator approximate those from the analysis error covariance normed tangent linear model operator, suggesting a simple alternative method for computing singular vectors. Given that ER results are a function of forecast ensemble reliability, theory and applications of a multivariate ensemble reliability verification technique called the minimum spanning tree rank histogram are presented.
(cont.) Experiments using Euclidean, variance, and Mahalanobis norms for defining minimum spanning tree distances imply that, unless the number of ensemble members is less than or equal to the number of dimensions being verified, the Mahalanobis norm transforms a spanning tree into a space where model imperfections are most readily identified.

Testo completoSammanfattning

Testo completoThis project objective is the implementation and definition of a SDK (Software Development Hit) that can be used to develop universal application by integrating the features described by Ensemble Interactions guidelines. In addition, we want to achieve the implementation of 6 design patterns defined by the German Precious Design studio, with respect to his research in the ecosystem field composed of multiple screens. Therefore, this research will provide a theoretical framework about the concepts of Ensemble Interactions and the 6 patterns that defines it. The results of the investigation, about the issued associated with Ensemble Interactions, will be the starting point and the base that will support the artifacts that will be made throughout the project. On the other hand, to show the results of the investigation, three demos will be developed that will be useful for the implementation and definition of the SDK. Finally, two applications will be developed using the SDK, which comply with all guidelines and patterns of Ensemble Interactions and it will be targeted to the business and home range respectively. For the project development we have defined different processes, which first is the research and definition of the project. Also, the development of the three demos covering Ensemble Interactions patterns. Then the definition, implementation and validation of the three demos. Moreover, the development of the two applications orientated to the business and home range respectively. Finally, the development of a web portal web the SDK is stored and everything about the project is documented. The project scope has been defined and contemplated to be accomplished over two academic terms.

Testo completoThe study of random matrices in physics has traditionally occurred in the context of Wigner models and in statistics by Wishart models, which are connected through Dyson\'s threefold way for real, complex and quaternion random matrices index by the Dyson _ = 1; 2; 4 index, respectively. Recent studies have shown the way by which these models are generalized for real values of _, allowing for the study the ensembles with arbitrary index. In this work, we study the statistical properties of these systems and explore the underlying physics in Wigner\'s and Wishart\'s models through and investigate through numerical calculations the e_ects of localization in general _ models. We also introduce symmetry breaks in this new form and study numerically the results of the statistics of the disturbed systems.
Zhu, Ya. "Chemical Compound Classification Ensemble". Thesis, North Dakota State University, 2013. https://hdl.handle.net/10365/27059.
Testo completoIn the research of health science, scientists often need to screen numerous chemical compounds to find drugs that can treat a disease. The process of testing the functionality of these compounds in the laboratory is very time-consuming. Computational methods have been used to accelerate this process. These computational methods are implemented based on the principle that chemical compounds with similar structure often have similar function. Thus, these methods maintain a database of chemical compounds whose function has been verified using laboratory experiments. The database contains the chemical structural formula of a compound, the 3D coordinate of every atom, and whether it has a certain function, e.g. it can kill a virus. Then, for a new compound, the programs compare its structure with those in the database and predict if it has the function based on the structure similarity. Thus, predicting the function of a compound is a two-class classification problem. In this project, we try to address this two-class classification problem using global and local similarity between compounds. The global similarity measures the overall structural resemblance between two compounds. When a group of compounds have the same function, they usually share some common sub-structures. These common sub-structures may correspond to their functional sites. Local similarity is computed based on the occurrences of common sub-structures between compounds. We built several classification models based on global and local similarity. To improve the classification result, we used an ensemble of those models to predict the function compounds in NCI cancer data sets. We predict whether a compound can inhibit cancer cell growth or not, obtaining AUC higher than 80% for five datasets. We compare our results with other state-of-the-art methods. Our classification result is the best in all five datasets. Our results show that local similarity is more useful than global similarity in predicting compound function. An ensemble method integrating global and local similarity achieves much better performance than single predicting models.

Testo completoThe main goal of the presented work is to tackle the problem of accuracy and waiting time in weather forecasting, which are normally conducted by computational applications known as Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models. These models have been strongly developed in the last decades and their performance constantly increases with the advances in computational power. However, in practice, many serious are still gaining considerable efforts by the scientific community in order to reduce what is widely known as 'weather limited predictability'. Mainly, the major two challenges are the willingness to get more reliable weather predictions, and to do it faster. As in many other areas of environmental modeling, most simulation software works with well-founded and widely accepted models. Hence, the need for input parameter optimization to improve model output is a long¬known and often-tackled problem. Particularly, in such environments where correct and timely input parameters cannot be provided. Efficient computational parameter estimation and optimization strategies are required to minimize the deviation between the predicted scenario and the real phenomenon behaviour. Based on the before mentioned, this thesis intends to: 1. Provide a sensitivity study of the effect of NWP model input parameters on prediction quality. 2. Propose a valid framework, which allows to search for the most 'optimal' values of model input parameters which, in our hypothesis, will provide better prediction quality. 3. Reduce the waiting time needed to get more reliable weather predictions. To accomplish the objectives of the presented proposal, a new weather prediction scheme is introduced. This new scheme implements an evolutionary computing algorithm, which focuses on the calibration of input parameters in NWP models. The presented scheme is called Genetic Ensemble, which is composed of two-phases: calibration phase and prediction phase. Through the calibration phase, the presented approach applies Genetic Algorithm operators iteratively, in order to find 'best' values of NWP model input parameters, which consequently, will be used in the consequent prediction phase. Many strategies of the Genetic Ensemble have been developed, as such, it s extended to calibrate more than one level of input parameters, and also to evaluate their values using different strategies. On the other hand, the proposed scheme is paralleled using a Master/Worker programming paradigm, and is suitable to be executed in high performance computing (HPC) platforms, by which, execution time is intended to be reduced. The presented scheme has been evaluated by running weather prediction experiments over a well-known weather catastrophe; Hurricane Katrina 2005. Obtained results showed both significant improvement in weather prediction quality, and a considerable reduction in the over all execution time.

Testo completoThe skill of a combined grand ensemble (GE), which is constructed from three operational global ensemble prediction systems (EPS), is evaluated with respect to the probability forecast of a tropical cyclone (TC) being within a specified area. Anisotropic probability ellipses are defined from the GE to contain 68% of the ensemble members. Forecast reliability is based on whether the forecast verifying position is within the ellipse. A sharpness parameter is based on the size of the GE-based probability ellipse relative to other operational forecast probability ellipses. For the 2010 Atlantic TC season, results indicate that the GE ellipses exhibit a high degree of reliability whereas the operational probability circle tends to be over-dispersive. Additionally, the GE ellipse tends to be sharper than the operational product for forecast intervals beyond 48 hours. The size and shape of the GE ellipses varied with TC track types, which suggests that information about the physics of the flow-dependent system is retained whereas isotropic probability ellipses may not reflect variability associated with track type. It is concluded that the GE probability ellipse demonstrates utility for combined EPS to enhance probabilistic forecasts for use as TC-related decision aids, as there is a potential for reducing the sizes of warning areas.

Testo completoThe main objective of this project is the development of a competitive analysis of technologies that allow connection and sending of messages between iOS and Android devices. These technologies are explored according to their capabilities, limitations and effectiveness in the development of mobile applications. In addition, they are subject to connection and message delivery tests to figure out which technology is more convenient in a variety of situations. The technologies are then documented through high-level architecture diagrams, which include deployment, component, and sequence diagrams. Finally, these architectures are verified with proofs of concept to ensure their correct elaboration, and to serve as guide for implementing projects in future work. The results obtained in the analysis will provide a record of how these technologies react in different scenarios.
