Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
In recent years, several states have introduced new corporate forms into their commercial law, which requires the commitment of shareholders towards a “mission”. By stipulating their purposes in their documents, these companies appear as a paradox for literature on corporate governance: would such a commitment not hamper strategic flexibility and undermine the monitoring of management? Is it not likely to deter shareholders' investments? The aim of this thesis is to explain the emergence of "mission-driven companies", to understand their motivations, but also to characterize the alternative model of governance they draw and the significance of this model in management science.First, the analysis of the process of emergence and design of these mission-driven forms in the United States enables us to enrich the classical model of the corporate contract, by showing that such a contract can have restrictive effects on the collective purposes if it only contains a commitment on invested resources, or provisions on the distribution of decision rights or value created to stakeholders. The thesis proposes, in a second step, a model of the "mission": by specifying desirable, yet potentially inventive, properties of the upcoming collective action, the mission calls for the design of novel strategies aiming at building new commons and collective interests. This model reveals, beyond the new legal forms, a wider class of “mission-driven” organizations, of which we can observe numerous variations both historically and currently. Finally, the thesis examines the systems of governance of mission-driven companies. A study of contrasting cases shows original devices combining control of the strategic exploration and solidarity mechanisms. The mission thus opens fruitful perspectives to explore new possible systems of solidarity

Abstract (sommario):
Created in 1945, the Catholic Center for French Intellectuals defined itself by what it successively accepted and rejected. Concerned with elevating wordly culture to the level of religious culture, it adopted starting in the late 1940s a more reflective dimension, seeking to establish dialog between modernity and Christianity. It organized, then, original intellectual activities based on interdisciplinarity and dialog with intellectulas, both believers and nonbelievers. This work thus proposes to study the attitude of a specific group within the framework of a double chronology : first, a cultural chronology wherein, between 1945 and 1975, blossomed successive modernities , and a religious chronology marked by the intransigence of Pius XII, the aggiornamento of Vatican II, and the post-Conciliar crisis. It thus places itself at the interface of the cultural and the religious, through the study of the collective itinerary of a specific intelligentsia which, most of time, preferred the stage of expertise, and more rarely opted for commitment. The disappearance of this forum for reflection in the middle of the 1970s underscores at once the crisis of the intellectual model such as it was established following the Second World War, and the implosion of French Catholicism. This work will study the intellectual milieus solicited by the forum for reflection by using the instruments of analysis developed for the study of these milieus, but it will seek just as much to take into account the content of the theological, philosophical, political and even literary reflection formulated during these thirty years. This double analysis will enable us to see the degree to which this intelligentsia opened itself to modernity, while at the same time keeping its originality within the French clergy

Abstract (sommario):
The orchestra exists in many forms today, perhaps even more so than in the past. Permanent symphony orchestras, so-called "project" orchestras, self-governing orchestras, historically informed performance ensembles, the forms of orchestral practice are divided into complex categories, organized according to their legal status, recruitment procedures and, of course, musical mission. The agreements within these structures are totally different, as much from the musical as the social point of view. This thesis aims to observe these orchestral practices by questioning the various modes of constructing the collective in the professional orchestras. Beyond this interrogation, my purpose is to observe how and to what extent the organization of every orchestra can influence the commitment of the musicians (socially but also musically) and the artistic performance. This research draws its influence from Anglo-Saxon sources, focusing particularly on the interactions between the organizational framework specific to each orchestra and the strategies which the individuals develop therein. For this I question not only the artists but those who work by their side: the orchestra is envisaged as a process of cooperation between technicians, administrations, and musicians. The observation of these mechanisms emphasizes the particular relations which the orchestras and the individuals maintain with the idea of an artistic commitment necessarily correlated with social risk

Abstract (sommario):
Individuals who experienced earthquake build a more functional social representation of risk, and exhibit more negative emotions. This representation is more structured and enables higher recognition and use of a more diversified risk-related information especially for practical purposes (risk mitigation collective behaviour). Pending on risk-related practices, the same structural effects were found in individuals who are highly concerned with seismic risk (high personal implication). Furthermore, individuals who are the most likely to engage in collective risk mitigation behaviour are those who feel having a higher capacity to act towards risk and who are already members of associations. This research is based on experimental studies that were conducted within the structural approach to soacial representations. It identified general psychosocial processes in a specific case of collective risk. On a theoretical level, this research shows the effects of prior risk-related experience and of on the dynamics of social representations of risk. On a practical level, it recommends several strategies to encourage public engagement in risk mitigation behaviour

Abstract (sommario):
In this research, we examine the effect of the interpersonal justice of the working group on innovative behaviors. First, we question the mediating role played by group identification in this relationship at the individual level of analysis. Next, we examine the moderating role of reflexivity on this mediation mechanism at the same level of analysis. Finally, we question the role of group identification and collective engagement at work as serial mediators of the effects of group interpersonal justice on innovative behaviors at the level of the analysis group in terms of climates of justice. Two studies were conducted to test our model. The first study was conducted among 204 Tunisian hospital employees. His results show that the indirect effect of the interpersonal justice of the working group on innovative behaviors, through identification with the group, will be moderated by the group's reflexivity. The second study was conducted with 528 students in 114 working groups. The data from this study were tested using a multi-level structural equation modeling approach. His results show the impact of the group's interpersonal justice climate on innovative individual behaviors through group identification and collective engagement at work. Theoretical and practical implications will be discussed

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
This thesis explores the relationship between environmental conflicts and the issue of citizenship, at different scales and temporalities. From an anthropological approach, this thesis aims at the empirical capture of citizenship processes in action in two cases of environmental conflicts that take place in the city of Valdivia and in the coastal town of Mehuín, in southern Chile, due to the construction and commissioning of a cellulose factory. By taking up the historicity of conflicts, as well as the ruptures they have gone through, this thesis focuses on analyzing the way in which different forms of citizenship have been made, evolved and transformed during the conflicts. In this research, the constructions of citizenship are played out in at least three areas of analysis, which at the same time account for the different levels, places and moments of the conflicts in which they take shape. In this way, the analysis will pay special attention to the citizenship registers or “legitimacy registers” (Fourniau, 1996; Carrel, 2007) mobilized by the actors involved to strengthen their position in the conflict and undertake the defense of the sites. Second, this research focuses on analyzing the constructions of citizenship identified in the field of the forms of action and organization established by the collectives in the context of the protest. The third and final area of analysis of citizenships that emerge during conflicts is that of collective engagement. The research raises here the question of “engagement trajectories” (Bertheleu and Neveu, 2005; Douat et al. 2012), that is, to now how collective engagement is built and evolves during the conflicts. This thesis thus seeks to contribute to the understanding of the fabric of citizenship, or of “moving citizenships”, as well as the role played by environmental conflicts in the democratic construction in Chile

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The global learning classroom is an emerging educational trend. The iPodia alliance promotes its peer-learning pedagogy by offering engineering classes with universities around the world. Students’ engagement as one of the important metrics to assess the effectiveness of education design methodology has been under considerable interest for several years. Tri-engagement, comprised of behavioral, cognitive, and emotional engagement provides a comprehensive assessment of learning success. This paper illustrates how a tri-engagement assessment was implemented in a global learning environment and examines the effectiveness of the peer-learning pedagogy in such highly diverse environment. This paper proposes a quantitative method using a modified Likert scale to assess students’ tri-engagement levels comprised of student and teaching assistant surveys, video observations, and analysis of facial emotion recognition, through preparation, data collection, and analysis stages. Comparisons of tri-engagements between the instructor-student activities and the peer-peer discussions, different continent regions, and on-site/remote learning are offered. Results show that the overall iPodia peer-learning activities experienced all positive tri-engagement levels and were not significantly affected by the region diversity (< 6% difference) or the remote learning (< 3% difference) of the iPodia learning classroom. That preliminarily proved that the iPodia peer-learning pedagogy maintains positive tri-engagements in a global engineering class. Additional findings were that the self-raters and observers experienced students’ cognitive engagement differently, and cultural difference would mainly affect students’ behavioral engagement, but unfamiliarity of the content may increase their emotional engagement.

Abstract (sommario):
E-Learning has been viewed as a positive initiative in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), as it is said to improve opportunities for critical thinking, develops better problem solving abilities and assists in improvement of productivity and efficiency of employees. For HEIs to benefit from the advantages of e-learning there needs to be continuous research done on how best can HEIs ensure that there is successful and sustainable e-learning. Secondary data literature was reviewed and in collecting primary data six participants from one of the South African HEIs (UKZN) were interviewed. Information gathered through primary data collection was in line with the information obtained from literature. The difference was when the primary data revealed additional factors which are essential for successful and sustainable e-learning. These includes the importance of finances and regular discussions and engagements with champions/experts and research in the field of e-learning. Most of the literature highlights the importance of engagements with students, faculty and academic staff and not much emphases is placed on engagement with all stakeholders. This paper concluded by providing recommendations which needs to been considered by HEIs on how best they can achieve successful and sustainable e-learning.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the types of waste produced by the Gentan community is used cooking oil. Previously, the people and the business actors in Gentan reused it in their daily activities. However, they acknowledge that it may damage food nutrition and even cause cancers for its fatty acids. In response to such problems, the Regency Government worked jointly to construct a waste recycling technology called TPS3R. In 2021, the head of Gentan stated that they had started an activity called GELIMPAH (Gentan Peduli Sampah, the community’s action of concern towards waste) program by collecting wastes from households and converting those into gold savings under the waste-to-gold program supported by PT Pegadaian. BUMDes (Badan Usaha Milik Desa or Village-Owned Enterprise) also collected used cooking oil from residents and business units as much as 30-50 m3 per week—even collected 70 m3 in the last week of March 4th, 2022. The collected oil was expected to be appropriately processed and economically valuable for the community. Together with the head of Gentan, the team worked in diversifying used cooking oil to become a biodiesel fuel. This activity was expected to be a parameter or benchmark for the collaboration’s fruitfulness regarding constructing a biodiesel development zone from used cooking oil. Furthermore, it was also expected that there would be the re-establishment of the used cooking oil processing technology into biodiesel (using biodiesel refinery technology) by building a biodiesel reactor with 100 L capacity. This application aimed to develop Gentan as a biodiesel or bio-energy development zone in Sukoharjo, as it produces a reactor as a technological handover from the university to the community, along with establishing cooperation between universities, other higher education institutions, and the community or BUMDes. This appropriate technology’s implementation has resulted in a reactor for processing used cooking oil into biodiesel with the characteristics according to SNI-2015.

Abstract (sommario):
Biostatistics students expect to graduate with the required tools and knowledge to collect and analyse their own data. Many go on to careers that require them to design their own lab- or field-based experiments. However, the examples introduced throughout their courses are textbook: data have already been collected appropriately, wrangled, and cleaned. Dealing with pre-provided, historic data does little to motivate student engagement with the underlying statistical concepts and fails to bridge the gap between statistical theory and application. Here, we discuss an application that provides students with the experience of designing an experiment and collecting their own unique dataset in a cost- and hassle-free way.

Abstract (sommario):
Video-based automatic assessment of a student's learning engagement on the fly can provide immense values for delivering personalized instructional services, a vehicle particularly important for massive online education. To train such an assessor, a major challenge lies in the collection of sufficient labels at the appropriate temporal granularity since a learner's engagement status may continuously change throughout a study session. Supplying labels at either frame or clip level incurs a high annotation cost. To overcome such a challenge, this paper proposes a novel hierarchical multiple instance learning (MIL) solution, which only requires labels anchored on full-length videos to learn to assess student engagement at an arbitrary temporal granularity and for an arbitrary duration in a study session. The hierarchical model mainly comprises a bottom module and a top module, respectively dedicated to learning the latent relationship between a clip and its constituent frames and that between a video and its constituent clips, with the constraints on the training stage that the average engagements of local clips is that of the video label. To verify the effectiveness of our method, we compare the performance of the proposed approach with that of several state-of-the-art peer solutions through extensive experiments.

Abstract (sommario):
We design a server-client system that collects students’ engagement information and reports it to a centralized server to help teachers assist neurodivergent students in order to provide a visual representation of students’ engagement status aiming to promote an equal learning opportunity for neurodivergent students [6]. In recent years, everyone throughout the globe are all seeking higher education, either for themselves, or for their children. Students are learning an increasing amount in classes and have needed to spend a lot more effort and attention to succeed. In this race for higher education, a specific group of underrepresented minorities has been left behind. This group being the neurodivergent population, specifically high-functioning people with ASD(Autism Spectrum Disorder) [7]. These students often require more attention due to hypersensitivity, and a shorter attention span than the neurotypical populace. These students have all that's necessary to learn and understand the material, although teachers are often stuck to a faster pace curriculum that does not easily allot so much attention to a singular student. Due to this problem many teachers believe that a efficient way to passively gauge these students attentiveness would significantly benefit their education. This paper develops a server-client system that collects students’ engagement information and reports it to a centralized server to help teachers assist neurodivergent students in order to provide a visual representation of students’ engagement status aiming to promote an equal learning opportunity for neurodivergent students. We applied our application to [Class] and conducted an Evaluation of the approach based on the qualitative data collected from the students.

This study employs a qualitative case study methodology. The participants included Tegal Screen Printing's founders, community leaders, and community members. Included among the data collection methods are interviews, observations, and documentation. The validity of the data is carried out by triangulating the source and method. Data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion are the data analysis techniques used. The outcomes demonstrated the community's role as a sharing forum, adding insights related to business ethics, such as communication skills, social skills, and networking; adding insights related to business management, such as leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork; and contributing to the quality of the products produced. There are technical production/technical screen-printing obstacles, e.g., registers and screen clogged either in the design section or the overall design, the difficulty of raw materials, and communities that need to provide counseling on making financial reports. Several options exist for overcoming these obstacles: The Tegal Screen Printing Community also seeks to assist its members with technical matters and scarcity of raw materials in the form of color errors in screen printing with designs, e.g., registers, and obstacles encountered during the film process of screen printing. Additionally, the Community seeks to offer guidance on preparing financial reports.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the great challenges around the advent of driver assistance systems is to ensure that drivers understand the true capability of technology, such that they can behave accordingly for safe vehicle operation. This understanding can be influenced by a range of factors including vehicle instructions, user interface and warnings, and system control behavior. Validation accounting for these important aspects is therefore central to understanding and comparing safety performance for real world use for overall system design implementations. This paper presents a test methodology specified for implementation on an automotive proving ground facility capturing pre-use information, and driver-vehicle interaction during assisted driving regarding user interface and system control behavior. Data collection was defined around the quantification of driver engagement with the driving task using subjective measures to assess progressive effects of system use and objective metrics considering driver behavior and capability to respond to an emergency scenario. In a pilot assessment, a between-subjects test was conducted using two vehicles with differing assisted driving concepts. A sample of naïve drivers (n=39) was recruited and, following a customer focused description of system functionality, was instructed to drive on a test track in continuous highway driving scenario with longitudinal and lateral driver assistance features active. Subsequently, a critical ‘cut-out’ event was presented requiring a driver response to avoid an in-lane obstacle. Results indicate variability in how drivers interact with the system during ‘normal driving’ with subjective measures demonstrating differences in metrics associated with engagement. Likewise, objective measures for driver reaction to the critical event signify differing levels of driver vigilance associated with perceived functionality of individual systems.Outcomes from this experimental test mark a step in the development of test methods for global assistance system assessment and provide a platform for further progression and refinement of tests. This has implications system design verification with highly replicability whilst accounting for use by representative drivers, alongside possible applications in consumer and regulatory testing with representative drivers.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
This article analyses the conversations on Twitter related to the World Health Organization (WHO). We collect the text of the discussions as well as the metadata associated with each tweet. Our dataset is exhaustive as it includes all the tweets produced by WHO. Likes, retweets, and replies capture the level of engagement. The goal is to quantify the balance of likes, retweets, and replies, also known as “ratios”, and study their dynamics as proxy for the collective engagement in response to WHO’s communications. Our results demonstrate a higher engagement of the public receiving the information pushed by WHO. This engagement translates into a more balanced reaction with still a more likely favorable opinion vis-à-vis WHO, but with also more challenges. This protocol based on quantitative measures to serve as a proxy to the legitimacy concept seems to hold its promises. In particular, we also perform a simple sentiment analysis to check the robustness of our conclusions.

This report provides an overview the Covid Collective research platform, how it was operationalised, and the learning which emerged from the three-year programme. The foundation of the Covid Collective’s theory of change was the network and relationships that were established and developed to harness collaboration and sharing of knowledge across a platform of global research partners. We acknowledged the critical role knowledge sharing, learning and engagement played in creating a culture that could enable and catalyse evidence-based, transformative action in response to Covid-19. The network that was developed in forming the Covid Collective could then facilitate comparative learning and collective action, and generate new insights and knowledge on the factors that support more or less effective responses to Covid-19 and help to build resilience to address future global development challenges.

Abstract (sommario):
Early detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and hepatitis B and C are vital to minimise the harm they cause. This Evidence Check aimed to identify effective initiatives that engage and support GPs and the GP clinic workforce in NSW to increase testing for these conditions. It also aimed to identify effective modifications to practice management software to increase GP engagement in screening and care for these conditions. Sixty-two articles were found in total. The most effective initiatives used multiple interventions, particularly provider education and quality improvement. They involved both GPs and other health workers, and offered clinic-level initiatives to help identify patients at higher risk (e.g. software-generated alerts) and engage them in testing (e.g. through self-collected specimens). Models of care that used nurse-led testing or links to specialist services offered a way to increase capacity to carry out testing. The quality of evidence was mixed—there were few randomised controlled trials, and little evidence about the sustainability of the initiatives over time, highlighting the need for further high-quality research.

Abstract (sommario):
The Global Engagement of Museums in Canada examines Canadian museum diplomacy, assessing the international activities of Canadian museums to consider the ways these institutions act as cultural diplomats on the global stage. The report presents the results of a multi-partner collaborative research project addressing the work of ten institutions, including the Art Gallery of Alberta; Aga Khan Museum; Canadian Museum of History; Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21; Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Museum of Anthropology at UBC; National Gallery of Canada; Ottawa Art Gallery; Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal Archaeology and History Complex; and the Royal Ontario Museum. Focusing on the period of 2009 to 2019, this report highlights new activities and methods within museum practice, while also grounding these within the context of developments in the last decade. Drawing on archival research, document analysis, and interviews with museum professionals, this research establishes baseline data on the global reach of Canadian museums and identifies best practices to share with the museum sector and cultural diplomacy community. Comprised of three sections, the report begins by presenting the framework for the project, explaining the logic behind the selection of institutions and the pedagogical considerations that informed our collective methodology. Second, the report provides a review of the literature in the field of cultural diplomacy, situating the research project. And third, the core of the project, are ten studies of specific institutions, drawn from the fieldwork conducted by the team. These institutional reports demonstrate the ways in which museums engage with a range of global activities and actors. They further address developing trends in the sector, while also suggesting future avenues for research. The Global Engagement of Museums in Canada is a research project led by Primary Investigators Jeffrey Brison and Sarah E.K. Smith. Funded by a Mitacs Accelerate Grant, the initiative is a collaboration between the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Queen’s University.

Abstract (sommario):
We exploit new experimental and quasi-experimental data to investigate voters' intrinsic motivation to engage politically. Does having the right to vote increase engagement or, given significant incentives to free ride, do eligible voters remain rationally unengaged? Does knowledge that ones group is pivotal reduce free riding? And are the politically engaged influenced by election-relevant policy information in the run-up to a major election? To address these questions, we fielded an original survey of 5,400 Mexican high school seniors just prior to the historic 2018 general election. Age-based regression discontinuity results show that the just-eligible score higher on measures of low-cost political engagement compared to the just-ineligible. A first survey experiment reveals that information that the youth vote will be pivotal increases the eligible respondents' interest in the presidential debate and in the election result. In the second experiment, information about current policy outcomes affects future policy priorities in ways consistent with the incentives of eligible respondents to collect relevant information on salient policy issues.

SEERNet, a network of Digital Learning Platforms, researchers, and practitioners with the vision to leverage DLPs as research infrastructure, is committed to valuing practitioners' insights and fostering a culture of collaboration among all three parties. Towards this end, SEERNet has implemented two strategies: Office Hours and a practitioner advisory board. Through these strategies, valuable lessons have emerged about recruitment strategies, challenges and complexities of the classroom, educators as content and context experts, the difference between buy-in and ownership, considerations for experimental research, and more. We hope that researchers will take into consideration what we learned from our experiences as they design and implement their own studies, and regardless of whether or not the DLP requires researchers to directly engage with educators in data collection, we hope that researchers will see the value of practitioners' lived experiences and engage them in feedback loops from design to implementation to dissemination.

Abstract (sommario):
There is increasingly strong evidence that taxation can contribute to expanded government responsiveness and accountability. However, such positive connections are not guaranteed. Rather, they are shaped by the political and economic context and specific policies adopted by governments and civil society actors. Without an environment that enables tax bargaining, there is a risk that taxation will amount to little more than forceful extraction. We consider how such enabling environments may be fostered through two mixed methods case studies of tax transparency and taxpayer engagement in Sierra Leone and Ghana. We highlight two key sets of findings. First, tax transparency is only meaningful if it is accessible and easily understood by taxpayers and relates to their everyday experiences and priorities. In particular, we find that taxpayers do not just want basic information about tax obligations or aggregate revenue collected, but information about how much revenue should have been collected and how revenues were spent. At the same time, taxpayers do not want information to be shared with them through a one-way form of communication, but rather want to have spaces for dialogue and interaction with tax and government officials, including through public meetings and radio call-in programmes. Second, strategies to encourage taxpayer engagement are more likely to be effective where forums for engagement are perceived by taxpayers to be safe, secure, and sincere means through which to engage with government officials. This has been most successful where governments have visibly demonstrated responsiveness to citizen concerns, even on a small scale, while partnering with civil society to foster trust, dialogue and expanded knowledge. These findings have significant implications for how governments design taxpayer education and engagement programmes and how civil society actors and development partners can support more equitable and accountable tax systems. Our findings provide concrete lessons for how governments can ensure that information shared with taxpayers is meaningful and accessible. Moreover, we show that civil society actors can play important roles as translators of tax information, enablers of public forums and dialogues around tax issues, and trainers of taxpayers, supporting greater tax literacy and sustained citizen engagement.
