Abstract (sommario):
Based on the two knowledge dimensions of availability and accessibility, this study investigates the influence of cooperation with external organizations on technological, product, and process innovations. Using longitudinal data from Spanish manufacturing firms, we estimate dynamic random-effects probit models and thus take into account that technological innovations exhibit persistent behavior. We find that cooperation with suppliers and universities is positively associated with both product and process innovations. However, sectoral analysis according to technological intensity reveals that cooperation with suppliers increases the propensity to technological innovation in industries with a higher degree of technological intensity, while cooperation with universities increases the likelihood of innovation in industries with a lower degree of technological intensity. Moreover, empirical results indicate a high degree of true or genuine state dependence in both types of innovations. Based on these findings, we discuss the theoretical, managerial, and policy implications of the study.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of the study is to identify patterns of energy-saving development of the petrochemical industry in the context of the introduction of innovations and to predict the energy intensity of the industry based on economic and mathematical modeling. As part of achieving the goal, an analysis of the series of dynamics was carried out and prognostic methods based on variant correlation analysis and regression modeling were applied. At the first stage of the study, the dynamics of energy consumption and costs of innovative activities in the development of petrochemical industries in Russia was assessed; at the second stage, a predictive model of changes in the energy intensity of petrochemical industries was built. As a result of the study, the regularities of the development of petrochemical industries in Russia were revealed (stable reduction in energy consumption, unstable dynamics of unit costs for innovative activities of petrochemical industries); the nature of the influence of technological modernization of production on the level of energy intensity is determined, which is manifested in the difference in sectoral accents of innovative development; regression equations are proposed, reflecting the dependence of the energy intensity of petrochemical industries on the volume of sales of industry products; calculated the predicted values of energy intensity, allowing to develop a set of management measures to support the energy efficient development of industry in Russia. The formulated conclusions and results can serve as a basis for improving the strategic directions of development of the petrochemical industry in Russia, taking into account the prioritization of the implementation of energy-saving innovative solutions.

Abstract (sommario):
Achieving sustainable economic development is achieved by high-tech innovations in the field of IT. The orientation of technical innovations towards the ecological principles of organizing modern industries in all sectors of the economy is designed to ensure the transition to a low-carbon model of global development. At the first stage of the transition, it is planned to create and apply systems for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through quotas and tax incentives. The advantages and disadvantages of a low-carbon model are extremely difficult to assess in practice, since such an assessment is associated with predictive calculations of external effects. In order to overcome these difficulties, the authors made an attempt to apply the methods of mathematical modeling from the standpoint of game theory. In particular, a model analysis of the strategy of highly toxic, polluting and high-energy-intensive industries in the public sector and the investment strategy of eco-technological innovations of private companies was carried out. Based on the results of game modeling, the authors proposed a project for a new energy system “UHV technology”, which involves investment financing of technical innovations of a low-carbon model for the development of the territories of the People’s Republic of China.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper investigates the transmission of pressure between the public, relevant government departments, and industrial firms through the use of formal environmental regulations. The data include formal environmental regulations issued from 2005 to 2019 in 179 cities in 27 provinces in China. The intermediary effect model and the threshold effect model are used to carry out research studies on the relationships between public-participated environmental regulations, formal environmental regulations, and industrial-technological innovations. Results indicate that: (1) Pressure is transmitted between the public, and relevant government sectors and industries. For instance, public-participated environmental regulations pressure relevant government departments to apply strong formal environmental regulations on industrial sectors. (2) Labor and capital have a positive moderating effect on the effect of formal environmental regulations on industrial-technological innovations. (3) Both public-participated and formal environmental regulations promote industrial-technological innovations. (4) There is a threshold effect in formal environmental regulations. For instance, when the intensity of public-participated environmental regulations is higher than 93, the role of formal environmental regulations in promoting industrial-technological innovation can be completely maximized.

Abstract (sommario):
China’s industrial sectors have an approximate consumption amounting to 70% of the aggregate power of the entire country. Investigating the driving forces of the decline in the energy intensity is essential for accelerating China’s conversion into a low-carbon economy. Nowadays, there has been no agreement as yet when it comes to the impacts of China’s industrial sectors on energy intensity. The current research work studies the impacts of key driving forces, in particular foreign as well as indigenous innovations, on China’s industrial energy intensity in 34 industrial sectors between 2000 and 2010. Linear and nonlinear analysis methodologies are put to use. The linear empirical findings show that indigenous innovation primarily contributes to driving down the industrial energy intensity across the sampling duration. The foreign innovations, which take the shape of FDI as well as imports, are seen as benefiting the decline in industrial energy intensity; on the other hand, exports ramp up the industrial energy intensity. An additional investigation, on the basis of the panel threshold framework, indicates that the impact of foreign innovations by means of openness as well as industrial energy intensity has an association with the technological absorptive potential. The empirical evidence puts forward some pivotal inferences for policymakers with regard to China’s declining industrial energy intensity—for instance, exploitation of the maximum benefit associated with the technology spillovers; in addition, it is important to take into consideration the attributes and scenarios that impact industrial energy intensity.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT: The urgent imperative to confront the complex interplay between managing natural resources and fostering technological innovation, particularly in OECD countries, has become a focal point in global conversations. It is abundantly clear that critical issues such as the rampant overexploitation of our natural resources, insufficient embrace of sustainable practices, and the profound repercussions of technological advancements on our ecological footprint demand meticulous scrutiny and comprehensive action. This scrutiny is vital to guide the formulation of judicious policies and strategies capable of addressing these complex challenges. The challenges faced by OECD countries, distinguished by their advanced industrialization, and elevated standards of living, are further compounded by the depletion of natural resources resulting from extensive economic activities. The extraction and utilization of resources, encompassing water, minerals, and energy, emerge as significant contributors to ecological degradation. The heightened demand for raw materials to sustain technological industries has precipitated the overexploitation and depletion of natural resources, manifesting in activities such as mining, deforestation, and other extraction processes, leading to habitat destruction and biodiversity loss. Furthermore, the manufacturing and utilization of technology, particularly within industries heavily reliant on non-renewable energy sources, have been substantial contributors to pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The study assesses the dynamic relationship between natural resources, economic growth, and technological innovation with respect to ecological footprints. It analyses the annual data series of a panel of 20 organisation for economic cooperation and development countries using the second-generation cointegration panel and cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lag methodology. The results of the slope coefficient confirm the existence of slope heterogeneity among countries. Furthermore, it affirms the long-term relationship among variables. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of effective utilisation of resources while investing in technological innovation to attain sustainable development goals.

Abstract (sommario):
With continuous industrialization and urbanization, cities have become the dominator of energy consumption, to which industry is making leading contribution among all sectors. Given the insufficiency in comparative study on the drivers of energy use across cities at multisector level, this study selected seven representative cities in China to quantify and analyze the contributions of factors to changes in final energy use (FEU) in industrial aggregate and sectoral levels by using Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index method. Disparities in the drivers of industrial FEU across cities were explicitly revealed within two stages (2005–2010 and 2010–2015). Some key findings are presented as follows. Alongside the increase in industrial output of seven cities within two stages, the variation trends in industrial FEU are different. Industrial output effect (contribution rate 16.7% ~ 184.0%) and energy intensity effect (contribution rate −8.6% ~ −76.5%) contributed to the increase in aggregate FEU positively and negatively, respectively. Beijing had the largest contribution share of industrial structure effect (−24.4% and −12.8%), followed by Shenyang and Xi’an. Contributions of energy intensity effect and industrial output effect for Chemicals, Nonmetals, Metals, and Manufacture of equipment were much larger than those of other sectors. The results revealed that production technological innovations, phase-out of outdated capacities of energy intensive industries, and industrial restructuring are crucial for reduction in industrial FEU of cities. This study also provided reference to reasonable industrial layout among cities and exertion of technological advantages from a national perspective.

Abstract (sommario):
Technological innovation has always played a very important role in the development of new energy industries. This paper takes the solar photovoltaic industry as an object of study, taking into account the diffusion of technological advances and the different roles of different technological innovations, and uses a spatial econometric SDM model to analyze the spillover effects of different types of technological advances on the solar industry in China. It is found that for the PV industry, efficiency-enhancing technological advances have the most significant impact, with efficiency-enhancing technologies contributing significantly to the annual electricity production of the PV industry; safety-enhancing technological advances having the second highest impact on the industry’s development; and cost-reducing technological advances have no significant impact on the industry. The study also found that due to the positive externalities of technological innovation, the spillover effect of technological innovation between regions has a significant impact on the development of the regional solar PV industry. In the long term, the direct effect of efficiency-enhancing technological innovation on the development of the PV industry is significantly positive, while the direct effect of safety-enhancing technological innovation on the development of the PV industry is significantly negative. Therefore, in the future, China’s solar energy industry should combine the capital investment of different types of science and technology into research and development, fully consider the impact of regional and technological spillover on industrial development, use technological innovation spillover to promote technological exchange and progress, and continuously improve the level of equipment operation safety, output efficiency, and electricity cost.

Abstract (sommario):
This article describes how marble is one of the most important stone resources in terms of durability. It is aesthetically pleasing, and a decorative material used by many architects, as well as plays an important role in the economy of India. Most of the marble processing activities are performed by small and medium scale industries (SMEs) not only in India but worldwide. These industries have low efficiency and productivity due to lack of new technologies, high productivity cost and a lack of proper sustainable waste management systems, thereby increasing the waste generated during the processing stage. There is a significant need within the sector for increasing production efficiency, combined with the need of a substantial reduction in waste generated that can be achieved by endorsing technological innovations. This is in addition to following best available processing practices, incorporating energy saving technologies and modernizing the sectors management and organization structure which will substantially increase efficiency as well as production. This article provides a systematic approach for assessing the current energy and present environment status of a typical SME processing units of Rajasthan area, and proposes measures for meeting cleaner production principles. An evaluation methodology was developed considering the realistic plant operation scenarios. The total energy inputs for processing the products with their appropriate environmental indices like CO2 emissions were calculated. Alternatively, the CO2 emissions were also calculated by Gabi educational software for different industries and the best way of reducing the energy consumption is suggested by following alternate source of energy.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper examines changing regional patterns of energy and emission efficiency in the Slovak regions in the period of 2008–18. Firstly; we review literature on key approaches to evaluating energy and emission efficiency; followed by discussing the pros and cons of specific methods. A slacks-based model of data envelopment analysis is applied in order to investigate changing patterns of energy and emission efficiency in 79 Slovak regions (LAU 1). Thereafter; changes in energy and emission efficiency are associated with policy interventions supported by the European Structural and Cohesion Funds (ESCF) in the period of 2011–15. The evaluation found no support for the hypothesis with regard to the positive impact of the ESCF on the increase in energy and emission efficiency. Combined support from three ESCF policy measures (€606.44m) was substantial; but accounted for a mere 6.3% of the total firm expenditure on product and process innovations in the period of 2007–15 (€9,573m). Productivity-boosting technological innovations and structural changes in the Slovak economy (a shift towards industries with a lower consumption of energy but a higher production of gross value added GVA) were major drivers of trends in energy and emission efficiency. If an increase in energy (emission) efficiency; rather than energy savings (a decrease in pollution), is a major objective of sustainable development policies; then innovation-oriented policies and changes in the structure of economic activities should be preferred to schemes supporting simple energy-saving (emission-cutting) projects

Abstract (sommario):
The phenomenon of the COVID-19 pandemic requires prevention actions, such as social and physical distancing. In education, there is no choice but to adapt to online learning from traditional face-to-face learning. Online learning is divided into two approaches, namely synchronous and asynchronous learning. In practice, both synchronous and asynchronous learning have their respective advantages and disadvantages that can affect the efficiency and the effectiveness of online learning that are felt by students. The present study has analyzed students’ acceptance of synchronous learning and asynchronous learning by comparing the results of the two approaches that were used in educational institutions. Data from 162 respondents in the synchronous and 147 asynchronous online learning surveys were obtained through distributing online questionnaires. The present research utilized multigroup partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) for data analysis. The results indicate that students’ acceptance of synchronous online learning is influenced by the characteristics of the teachers, technological innovations, and the quality of the learning system. At the same time, the teacher characteristics, the organizational and technical support, technological innovations, and the trust affect the acceptance of asynchronous online learning. The R2 that was generated from the two groups was 58 percent and 62 percent for synchronous and asynchronous learning, respectively. The managerial implications that can be implemented are also described here in order to assist institutions in increasing the acceptance of synchronous and asynchronous online learning for future online education.

Abstract (sommario):
The impact between particles and material surface is a micro-scaled physical phenomenon found in various technological processes and in the study of the mechanical properties of materials. Design of materials with desired properties is a challenging issue for most industries. And especially in aviation one of the most important factors is mass. Recently with the innovations in 3D printing technologies, the importance of this phenomenon has increased. Numerical simulation of multi-particle systems is based on considering binary interactions; therefore, a simplified but as much accurate as possible particle interaction model is required for simulations. Particular cases of axisymmetric particle to substrate contact is modelled at select impact velocities and using different layer thicknesses. When modelling the particle impact at high contact velocity, a substrate thickness dependent change in the restitution coefficient was observed. This change happens is due to elastic waves and is important both to coating and 3D printing technologies when building layers of different properties materials.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the leading industries is crop production. It is the main source for the production of vital products, as well as the raw material base for their production. The amount of production depends proportionally on the development of this industry. Thus, production volumes should fully meet the needs of the population. For the effective development of the field of crop production at this stage, it is necessary to constantly improve the existing and introduce new technologies for the production of agricultural products; fundamentally change economic relations between producers and consumers of science-intensive products; form an innovative state policy aimed at an innovative way of developing the country’s agrarian economy. Modern agricultural enterprises work completely differently than those of a few decades ago, primarily due to advances in technology, including sensors, devices, machines and information technologies. In the conditions of the constant increase in the price of energy resources and raw materials for the production of mineral fertilizers, the presence of a shortage of organic fertilizers, the reduction of areas suitable for growing agricultural crops, due to the strengthening of erosion processes and desertification caused by global warming, the problem of finding the most effective ways of managing profitability and reducing the cost of living is becoming urgent agricultural products. One of the ways of its successful solution is the introduction of innovative technologies in the field of land use. Digitization is turning agriculture into a high-tech sector of the economy, processing massive amounts of big data coming from numerous sensors installed in the field, on the farm, agricultural machinery, from weather stations, satellites and other systems. These advanced devices, precision farming, new technologies and robotic systems enable businesses to be more profitable, more efficient, safer and more environmentally friendly. The use of innovations in agriculture ensures an increase in labor productivity, a decrease in the cost price and an increase in the quality and competitiveness of products, contributes to solving the problem of food security in the country and increasing the sustainability of agricultural enterprises.

Abstract (sommario):
The electric vehicle industry involves various technological cooperative innovations, meaning that electric vehicle companies must not only cooperate and innovate with similar enterprises in the same industry, but also collaborate with enterprises across the industry and research institutions (RIs). This paper empirically analyzed the structure and evolution characteristics of cooperative innovation networks, based on the patent application data in the field of electric vehicles from 2006 to 2021. It was found that the firm–firm intra-industry and inter-industry cooperative innovation networks, and firm–RI cooperative innovation networks have the characteristics of phased evolution in structure, and the network structure in the evolution process has similarities and differences. Furthermore, during the industrial formation period, inter-industry cooperative innovation focuses on the cooperation between the midstream and downstream industries of the industrial chain; but in the industrial growth period, inter-industry cooperative innovation has been widely extended to multiple industries in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the industrial chain. While the scale of intra-industry and industry–research institution cooperative innovation continues to expand with the development of the industry, the collaboration is concentrated in the five industries in the middle and downstream of the industrial chain. The research conclusion can provide a reference for different cooperative innovation partners of electric vehicles and other emerging industries to formulate differentiated policies.

Abstract (sommario):
The results of research in the field of designing a business model of an enterprise in conditions of sustainable development through the introduction of innovations are presented. The role of disruptive innovations in business process reengineering is highlighted. The concept of 4P innovations is presented, the classification of innovations according to the level of technological novelty and impact on the market is carried out. The main types of circular business models are described (cyclical, extending, intensifying, dematerialising). The basic characteristics of the DISRUPT framework for enterprises creating products/services for the circular economy are outlined. The European Commission aims to ensure coherence between industrial, environmental, climate and energy policies to create an optimal business environment for sustainable growth, job creation and innovation. The Commission has developed an ambitious program to transform the EU economy into a circular economy, where the value of products and materials is preserved for as long as possible, which brings great economic benefits. For businesses, working together to create a basis for sustainable products opens up new opportunities in the EU and beyond, including and for Ukraine In fact, we are talking about business reorganization, changing the business model, taking into account values and innovations. Circular business model is an umbrella term for completely different business models that seek to use fewer materials and resources to produce products and services, and to extend the life of existing products and services through repair and restoration, recycling and reuse. Thus, innovative business models of the circular economy arise and develop, first of all, in an urbanized and environmentally responsible environment and are aimed at reducing dependence on material resources, increasing efficiency and increasing profits Innovation is a continuous process that involves delivering innovation as a service to customers by bringing together the right people, processes and tools. Disruptive innovations are innovations that change the relationship of values in the market environment. At the same time, the existing products become uncompetitive simply because the parameters on the basis of which the competition used to take place become less important. Such innovative technologies, which eliminate or reduce dependence on non-renewable natural resources, significantly increase the quality of life or provide a technological transition in the use of a certain product (service). The main criteria are: high potential need of humanity or a large number of users; high availability for everyone; relatively low cost. And this approach can actually change those industries that need to be rebooted and function in conditions of sustainable development. The circular economy involves the construction of dynamic structures (often combining enterprises of different industries) and actually stimulates the process of transformations at each link of business processes. Therefore, for the implementation of the product strategy, enterprises in the context of sustainable development can use such tools as DISRUPT framework. Obviously, the choice of a circular business model should be situational, based on research of the market environment and an adequate assessment of the company, and only then will it be possible to achieve goals and strategic advantages.

Abstract (sommario):
Although innovation is defined as a priority in the strategic documents of the Ukrainian government, its trends of 2006–2016 show that nearly 80% of the Ukraine’s industrial enterprises were not innovating. Innovation activities were carried out mainly by large enterprises, of which 4–5% created new products or improved existing products (processes). 80–85% of innovations were acquisitions (mainly imports) of ready technologies in form of machinery; 95–100% of the innovations costs were covered by companies’ own funds. Such results give evidence of the inefficiency of the current system of government support for innovation and the need to change approaches to financing development and innovation. The authors are first to propose a mechanism for government support to the implementation of industrial-innovative projects at domestic industrial enterprises, which involves co-financing of project implementation and partial compensation of interest on loans involved in project implementation. The criteria for applicant and project compliance and principal indicators of the industrial-technological and financial-economic expertise of projects are determined. The procedure for providing government support to industrial-innovative projects is proposed, which implementation will allow for social and economic effects: higher level of production localization and more jobs in Ukraine, higher added value of production; stimuli to the development of related industries; increased revenues to budgets of various levels; technological effects: building scientific and technical competencies and technology development, grown competitiveness of the domestic industry, created objects of intellectual property rights, created scientific and production clusters; market effects: access to foreign markets, import substitution and lower dependence on imported supplies (primarily from the Russian Federation), supplies of intermediate goods (materials, units, units, parts and components) to end-product manufacturer, supplies of investment goods (means of production) to business entities, higher profitability, higher flexibility of production, higher labor productivity, better consumer quality of manufactured goods; environmental effects: saved material resources, reduced energy consumption, reduced production waste, reduced pollution.

Abstract (sommario):
In many intensive dairy regions in northwest Europe, a decline in grazing is observed. In the Netherlands, the proportion of dairy cows with access to pasture is declining, as well as the time spent grazing per cow. The decline in grazing is seen as an unwanted trend by many stakeholders and is, thus, under debate amongst dairy farmers, the dairy chain, and society. Therefore, a public–private partnership was initiated to encourage grazing by providing farmers with usable means of improving their grazing systems. The partnership involved stakeholders from the dairy farming community, dairy and feed industry, agrotechnical industries, advisory services, and research. The objective of this partnership was to develop and stimulate technological innovations and management measures that increase fresh grass intake at pasture. The innovation network combined an integrated research approach with farmer working groups and broader stakeholder interactive meetings. The project started with a comprehensive grass intake framework, which was the foundation for exploration of innovations. The framework consisted of six interlinked components: soil, grass growth, grass supply, grass intake, feed supplementation, and cow behavior. In a continuous interactive cycle, strategic choices were made to focus on potentially effective innovations. The use of a public–private partnership to develop usable innovations that encourage grazing practices proven to be a good approach to develop a shared vision among stakeholders. It provided a basis to work together toward innovative practices and to disseminate the outcomes to the foreseen users. The approach succeeded in design concepts for two specific innovations, i.e., weekly grass growth predictions and daily fresh grass intake tracking. We demonstrated that meaningful grazing and fresh grass intake are possible in intensive dairy systems with high stocking rates and high levels of supplementary feeding.

Abstract (sommario):
Goal: to identify and analyze the factors of Russian firms’ proximity to the technological frontier; the specifics of innovation activity of firms at different distances to the technological frontier; the relationship between the proximity of firms to the technological frontier and their competitiveness. Methodology: econometric analysis of data from a survey of over 700 firms in Russian non-energy industries conducted in 2019. Findings: the technological leadership of Russian firms is positively related to their size, market power, implementation of innovations, primarily process ones, as well as R&D funding, including those performed by external contractors. Borrowing of advanced technologies is characteristic of both lagging companies and leaders. However, the latter are more open to external knowledge and active in searching for advanced solutions and practices, primarily abroad. Foreign direct investment contributes to catching-up technological development rather than to gaining leadership. A positive relationship between the proximity of firms to the technological frontier and their competitiveness is revealed: technology leaders, other things being equal, are characterized by higher labor productivity and export activity. In addition, leading firms were more likely than others to increase their productivity, output, market share and exports. Originality and contribution of the authors: while much attention is paid in the modern economic literature to the competitiveness of firms and their distance to the technological frontier, these issues are rarely considered in relation to each other. The study partially fills this gap. The authors apply an innovative approach to determining the proximity of firms to the technological frontier, based on a combination of the level of technologies used and the novelty of products (services) produced. Characteristic features of Russian firms at different distances from the technological frontier and peculiarities of their innovative behavior are revealed It is shown that along with the introduction of advanced technologies Russian firms have other ways to ensure their competitiveness.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, we outline a transdisciplinary approach and design thinking methodology (TADTM) to tackle complex problems. Our premise is that these problems need a fundamental understanding of technological solutions and those for human interactions, business operations, financing, socioeconomic governance, legislation, and regulations. They must be approached by different decisionmakers from different disciplines to establish seamless interactions and structured teamwork. In this regard, we emphasize the need for a transdisciplinary framework that accounts for personal preferences based on human behavior as well as the traditional interdisciplinary frameworks. To test and prove our hypothesis, three case studies are discussed. Case Study 1 is based on our studies at a major medical establishment, and Case Study 2 is about the integrated engineering and architecture approach we used at our university campus. Case Study 3 is based on an ongoing project to lead industrial corporations to change their energy policies with practical energy efficiency measures and by adapting renewable/alternative energy adaptations for their operations. Developing creative solutions and strategies to decrease atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions requires such an energy transition framework and should involve every person, company, entity, and all governments. It can only be achieved with efforts on both local and global levels, which needs to convince (a) industries to change their traditional operation modalities, (b) people to alter their consumption behaviors, and (c) governments to change their rules, regulations, and incentives. The complexity and magnitude of this enormous task demand the coordination and collaboration of all stakeholders, as well as the need for technological innovations.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Research purpose. As carbon neutrality gains momentum, industries worldwide are navigating the challenges and opportunities posed by sustainability goals. This article delves into the strategies undertaken by airlines and maritime companies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 in the European Union (EU). The aim of the research is to explore how the aviation and maritime industries in Europe can effectively transition towards carbon neutrality by 2050, considering their similar technological challenges and opportunities. The objective of this research was to identify and compare currently utilized sustainability initiatives in aviation and maritime companies. The focus is on new insight from airline and maritime companies concentrating on their sustainability practices. Common hurdles, innovative solutions, and shared opportunities in the pursuit of environmental sustainability are explored. Design / Methodology / Approach. The selected research method was qualitative research, which was conducted with in-depth and semi-structured interviews and content analysis. Interviews were conducted with airline company and association representatives and maritime company, research, and education experts. The content analysis was based on sustainability reports and sustainability sections of annual reports. Key findings were synthesized into a theoretical framework and this research explores practical initiatives for a sustainable transformation process. Findings. The call to reduce carbon emissions has been initiated by the EU affecting the transportation sector, particularly aviation and maritime industries where the path to achieving carbon neutrality is constrained by significant technical limitations. Despite these challenges, both sectors share a unified objective according to EU climate targets. Both the aviation and maritime industries face challenges on the path to carbon neutrality. Airlines struggle with the limitations of current aviation technology, hindering the feasibility of large-scale technological advancements. Similarly, maritime companies confront regulatory complexities and infrastructure limitations in the adoption of alternative fuels and emission-reduction technologies since the commonly used tactics of reducing fuel consumption by optimizing speed, routes and scheduling are no longer adequate ways and the energy needs of the shipping industry cannot be met only with battery technology. Originality / Value / Practical implications. These challenges offer opportunities for innovation and collaboration. Investments in research and development are driving advancements in electric and hydrogen aircraft, while the maritime industry is also trying to find hydrogen-based solutions for greener development, but the technologies are not widely available. This leads towards combining bio-oils and technological innovations related to the fleet. Case study 1 sheds light on airline sustainability in Europe, revealing strategies and initiatives that European airlines are currently utilizing in their sustainable transformation journey. Case study 2 explores different means of achieving carbon neutrality in the maritime industry, in particular the potential of common reed (Phragmites australis) as a carbon offset tool for reaching net zero. Both industries are making significant strides towards carbon neutrality through a combination of technological innovation, operational efficiencies, and strategic partnerships. Towards green horizons as transport industries converge on the path to carbon neutrality.

Abstract (sommario):
Podcasts often blend journalistic investigation with personal reflection, from Serial to Switched on Pop. Their veneer of fiction-as-fact especially confounds representation when podcasts’ voice acting and sound design portray pop stars in caricatured dramatizations. This paper examines reenactments of Cher and Taylor Swift in podcasts that investigate popular music industries and technology. As I show, these stars often are ventriloquized on podcasts due to their respective ages and visibility as women. Podcasts interrogate them for being too old or too young and for trespassing onto the often-male domains of business and technology. To show how podcast hosts represent women pop stars in particularly gendered and ageist ways, I listen to the sonics of fictionalization of two episodes that mythologize Cher’s Auto-Tuning and Swift’s battle to take back her masters from record industry men. First, American Innovations reenacts Cher’s request to producers to create the Auto-Tune effect, but the male host’s ventriloquy of her voice reduces her artistic and technological prowess to parody as they make her seem outdated. Then, in Business Wars, multiple voice actors reenact Swift’s career from its beginning and depict her as a child who doesn’t know any better. These podcasts blur facts and public opinion with alluring dramatizations of what “really happened,” placing listeners in the scene with compelling voice acting and ambient sound effects. In these reenactments, podcasts’ affordances of intimacy and immersion—which hosts often herald as democratizing—perpetuate cultural mythologies about gender and age in popular music.

Abstract (sommario):
Handling industrial agricultural wastes is a requirement for industrial waste management in the context of circular bioeconomy innovations. The recovery and re-use of agricultural wastes and their by-products have become an important topic of research and development to investigate their functional and nutraceutical properties. The bioeconomy provides an opportunity to create innovative bio-based products and processes, thereby opening up new markets. Agricultural waste contains a high concentration of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, and other functional compounds such as antioxidants, which can be used to add value to a variety of food products. Due to its higher nutritional profile, cereal bran, as an agricultural waste and by-product, has a variety of functional and nutraceutical properties. Despite the fact that it is rich in bioactive compounds with health benefits, cereal bran is still underutilized in the food system. It can be used either directly for the processing of various foods or the extraction of various bioactive components present therein. Furthermore, the extracts from cereal bran have been used to obtain antioxidants, antibiotics, vitamins, and enzymes as functional components to be employed in agri-food and animal feed, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. Therefore, this review aims to promote cereal bran waste and by-products, highlighting how to use them as functional ingredients with health-promoting properties and desirable technological aspects. Currently, there are few data on the nutritional exploration of these by-products as health-promoting agri-food products. Cereal bran is a nutritious natural agricultural by-product, but its potential application in the food industry is still limited due to a lack of literature focused on its quality attributes, which may become useful for informal explanation and evaluation during food product formulation. With the growing demand for fiber-rich foods, cereal bran valorization can generate revenue for milling industries.

Abstract (sommario):
Identifying emerging technology trends from patents helps to understand the status of the technology commercialization or utilization. It could provide research insights leading to advanced technological innovations that stimulate socially responsible research to address human dietary and medical needs. However, few studies have investigated emerging chitosan applications using patents. In this study, we report the application of a patent bibliometric predictive intelligence (PBPI) model to identify emergent topics and technology convergence related to chitosan applications from patents in the International Patent Classification system. Text mining was used to extract patterns from 5001 patents and each term was assigned an emergent score, following which we traced growth patterns, examined relationships between IPCs, emergent topics, and patents using correlation analysis and principal component analysis, and conducted matrix and cluster mapping analysis to understand industrial applications and explore patterns of technological convergence. Five major terms emerged in association with ascending and newly emergent topics over the last 13 years: “shelf life,” “antibacterial,” “good safety,” “absorbing water,” and “auxiliary materials.” These topics were closely linked with research in the biomedical and food production and preservation industries. A network analysis indicated that “antibacterial” terms exhibited the highest degree of convergence, followed by “shelf life.” These findings can inform strategies to determine new directions for chitosan research.
