Abstract (sommario):
Multisolution phenomenon is an important issue in P3P problem since, for many real applications, the question of how many solutions could possibly exist for a given P3P problem must at first be addressed before any real implementation. In this work we show that, given 3 control points, if the camera’s optical center is close to one of the 3 toroids generated by rotating the circumcircle of the control point triangle around each one of its 3 sides, there is always an additional solution with its corresponding optical center lying in a small neighborhood of one of the control points, in addition to the original solution. In other words, there always exist at least two solutions for the P3P problem in such cases. Since, for all such additional solutions, their corresponding optical centers must lie in a small neighborhood of control points, the 3 control points constitute the singular points of the P3P solutions. The above result could act as some theoretical guide for P3P practitioners besides its academic value.

Abstract (sommario):
A dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator was employed to reduce the passage vortex generated in a turbine cascade. This study focused on the burst mode drive of a plasma actuator and examined the relationship between flow field changes and the burst ratio and frequency. The non-dimensionalized burst frequency was fixed at F+ = 1.26, and the burst ratio was varied from 0.01 (1% operation) to 1 (100% operation, continuous mode). Generally, an increase in the burst ratio weakens the passage vortex, and the center of the passage vortex moves more toward the upper endwall surface and blade suction surface side. However, the velocity distribution, secondary flow streamlines, turbulence intensity distribution, and vorticity distribution did not change proportionally with changes in the burst ratio. Furthermore, the burst ratio was fixed at BR = 0.5, and the non-dimensional burst frequency varied from F+ = 0.013 to 62.9. Low burst frequencies led to a decrease in the peak velocity of the passage vortex, vorticity at the passage vortex center, and negative peak vorticity; however, an increase in the distance of the center of the passage vortex from the upper endwall surface and the turbulence intensity at the vortex center was observed. In contrast, high burst frequencies resulted in a decrease in the position of the vortex center and the turbulence intensity of the passage vortex center, while the peak velocity of the passage vortex, vorticity at the vortex center, and negative peak vorticity increased. The non-dimensionalized burst frequency around F+ = 1 is appropriate because both effects are balanced.

Abstract (sommario):
Cold chain transportation refers to a logistics method that transports fresh, perishable, and perishable items from the place of production, processing or warehouse to the place of consumption under certain temperature conditions. As consumers have higher and higher requirements for food safety and quality, the cold chain logistics industry has also developed rapidly. However, the high cost of cold chain logistics, the difficulty of technology, the difficulty of ensuring service quality and other problems have also arisen, and how to optimize cold chain transportation has become a hot issue in the cold chain logistics industry. Cold chain transportation optimization refers to the premise of ensuring the quality and safety of goods, through reasonable transportation paths, transportation methods, temperature control and other measures, to minimize the cost of cold chain transportation, improve efficiency and service quality. In order to achieve the optimization of cold chain transportation, it is necessary to establish a reliable cold chain logistics distribution center to ensure the safety and quality of goods during transportation. In order to solve the problem of location selection of cold chain logistics distribution center, this paper first defines the service reliability and calculation method of cold chain distribution center. Then, the location model of the cold chain logistics distribution center and the trust domain optimization algorithm model were established. The model aims to minimize the total cost, while considering multiple factors such as transportation distance, temperature control, facility construction, etc., to ensure the reliability and operational efficiency of the cold chain logistics distribution center. Finally, this paper introduces an example for calculation to prove the feasibility and universality of the model in the location problem of cold chain logistics distribution center. Through the calculation of examples, it can be seen that the model can effectively reduce the cost of cold chain transportation and improve the service quality and efficiency of cold chain logistics distribution center. In summary, this paper proposes a reliable location model and trust domain optimization algorithm model for cold chain logistics distribution centers to solve the challenges faced by the cold chain logistics industry. This model can provide guidance for cold chain logistics companies to gain a greater advantage in a highly competitive market.

Abstract (sommario):
This thesis presents the supervision, analysis and optimization of power distribution systems considering the penetration of distributed energy resources and energy storage systems. The power distribution system planning is becoming an increasingly issue due to the deregulation of the power industry, the environmental policy changes, the introduction of new technologies and the transformation towards a smart power distribution grid definition. In consequence, the use of modeling and numerical evaluation tools is getting more attention for the system planners and operators. This has resulted in the development of a real-time experimental platform belonged to the Bank of the Energy concept. The platform covers all aspects of the challenges of future power system requirements related to the optimization of the local energy production and consumption. A hardware/software setup with emphasis to the utilization of real-time simulation and hardware in the loop testing with some typical reference applications are described. Additionally, it is proposed a novel methodology for battery energy storage systems (BESS) integration over a real distribution system using the parallel computing capabilities of the experimental platform. The placement of BESS is performed by a sensitivity analysis, while the output power rating sizing is deployed using a genetic algorithm. The outcomes of this methodology demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed parallelization technique and show that voltage profile improvement and losses reduction are possible introducing the BESS into the system

Abstract (sommario):
Mestrado em Engenharia Alimentar - Instituto Superior de Agronomia
This work had as principal objective to compare the efficiency of functioning of two distribution centres, where one is actually developing BRC Storage and Distribution and ISO 9001 certification and other was not certified. In order to compare both, various logistic operations were followed, as reception, storage and dispatch. Installations were evaluated in accordance with the guides of the certificates. Finally, there was a comparison and evaluation of their principal differences, trying to understand the reason and principal consequences to the non-conformities found. In a society where the consumer is more and more demanding, it is necessary that products flow through the food chain and get to final consumer with maximum food security and food safety. In order for that, every responsible entity and company where products flow, must interact and be concentrated achieving this objective, including distribution centres. In these centres, products are store during a pre-determinated period, and then palletized and segregated according to the client, being later dispatched. Operations in a distribution centre must be done according with the objective of guaranteeing products conformity, being necessary to have a rigorous quality control in the whole process. However, through this work was verified that in all process steps there are non-conformities, which may not allow achieving this goal. The principal non-conformities found were essentially related with product bad manipulation from operators and lack of registry of numerous steps through the process, as well as weak control of products quality, as much in reception as in storage or dispatch. Principal reasons that have been found were the lack of formation in collaborators, no divulgation of good practices in manipulation and hygiene, but essentially the fact that all the company sectors are not involved uniformly to achieve the same objectives. Logistics area worries relies fundamentally on process’s efficiency and minimizing costs, which restrains the quality area of being able to ensure quality requisites needed. Through the development of this work were frequently noticed oppositions between these two areas. It is necessary that all persons are involved and good practices defined by quality managers are communicated to all collaborators, alerting e letting know the importance of its performance in obtaining secure products, through periodic formation. It’s still to point certification. The company visited aims to implement BRC so can serve clients like Ibersol, who demands certification to all companies which want to serve its institutions. By analyzing both distribution centres, It is possible to verify that for a distribution centre who is under such a rigorous process of certification and auditing, shows some nonconformities like those shown at the uncertified centre. Non-identified and damaged products v were found. There were also seen mosquitoes in storage area due to bad manipulation from collaborators. For this work diverse entities related with the food industry were contacted, especially withlogistics and distribution, trying to understand if these were able to give valid answers to questions and doubts which distributors ask. Was also verified, however, there is a great difficulty in obtaining valid answers from most of these entities, because just because they are not answered or answers given are not satisfactory. It is fundamental the consciousness from these entities in the responsibility to consequences that their involvement may have in distribution business and in food security. Food security and food safety are responsibilities that must be shared by all operators who compose distribution chain, and each one must contribute to guarantee its efficiency.

Owing to the development of information and communication, the efficiency of logistics had been emphasized. In addition, the efficiency and accuracy of delivery system need also be paid more attention. This study on the planning of delivery control system was conducted under such background. This study firstly divided delivery operation into four parts, order dealing, order picking, goods classifying, and goods delivery. Then the delivery control system was planned under the delivery targets of on time, no damages and no losses. The delivery control system planned includes the organization, the events and related information, the information system and the response work of contingency. In planning, some concepts in Enterprise Resource Planning and Customer Relationship Management were applied. This system monitors the condition of various operations in delivery and checks if it is normal. If not, the controller must take actions to maintain the delivery targets mentioned above. In this paper some contingencies in various operations were listed and suitable response action were suggested. Finally some techniques used in control system such as Car Positioning system and communication systems were introduced.

This study was motivated to propose a forecasting and replenishment control model to one of the Distribution Centers in a Medical Device Manufacturer. In the Medical Device Industry, the desire for high levels of customer service often results in less than optimal inventory levels. Sometimes, big companies face challenges when have distribution centers in different parts of the world, and there is lack of a reliable business process for collecting demand data from channel. Therefore, as part of the characteristics of this industry, it is necessary to adopt suitable models to generate efficient replenishment plans due to the diversity in the portfolio of products and the constant changes in their demand. We used a Case Study Approach to analyze three years of real data for six different products, identify the probability distribution behind every demand set, and employ forecasting methods to give more precise demand estimates. Also, we proposed to determine the replenishment quantity using a Periodic Inventory Review model for the Distribution Center. We verify that the proposed approach obtained better forecasting than those given by the field sales in the Distribution Center using the historical data. Therefore, we believe the proposed approach may serve as an effective tool that supports their decision making, forecasting, and replenishment system. The case company could look for opportunities to extend them to other subsidiaries.

The main purpose of this research is to figure out how enterprises deal with customers’ uncertain demands and unexpected variables by the lowest cost, greatest capacity and most reliable products during the process of deciding the best marketing channels. A theory called “ Fuzzy Robust Design Framework ” is researched through the perspective of the supply chain. The framework will indicate that how enterprises control overall situations and reach future goals ideally through making accurate decisions of marketing channels by Fuzzy selections and adapted structures by Robust Optimization. Ultimately, the result of this research will point out that the framework of marketing channels established by supply chain can offer enterprises great assistance and flexibility to cope with any sudden changes resulted from consumers and market. This study is to satisfy most of customer under limit resources, and budget but focus on the path of vehicle delivery and receive. The study is focused construct the mathematic model for dynamic vehicle routing and problem. It’s to satisfy most customers’ require that demand uncertainty of delivery or collection goods while minimizing the total cost (the distance traveled and ignore customer fine) the limitations of available resource. The set of customers is partitioned into two subsets: line haul customers where a given quantity of goods is delivered from a central deport, and backhaul customers where a given quantity of goods is collected and transported to the deport. We consider fuzzy logic describe customer elect elements for fitly real world condition objectively.

An integration of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and the Outage Management System (OMS) will enhance the performance of handling outages in the distribution system. In this thesis, discrete time simulation models are used to evaluate the system performances of simple SCAJDA-OMS integrations. Integrations of distributed architectures of SCADA and OMS systems are simulated by using an off the shelf computer network simulation package. Test results have indicated that the changes in the response times of major SCADA functions and hardware utilization due to the integrations are within the acceptable ranges. With approprite integrations, the performance of OMS can be greatly enhanced which would then result in the reduction of outage duration.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractStockbridge dampers are the most widely used in wind induced vibration control of overhead power transmission lines. This dynamic absorber comprises a carrier cable with a mass at each end and a bolted clamp that can be attached to a conductor or a guard wire, with the purpose of supplementing the energy dissipated by the cable related to its self-damping. The maximum response of this type of absorber is associated with the frequencies of its different oscillation modes. The masses are designed in such a way to obtain moments of inertia and location of their center of gravity such that, with the vibration of the clamp, their various characteristic bending and torsional modes are excited. In this work, the calibration of a nonlinear finite element model using Bayesian inference is presented to evaluate the dynamic behavior of the damper for all excitation frequencies and displacement amplitudes. To this end, an inverse problem was posed in which the probability distributions of the parameters of interest are obtained from backward uncertainty propagation of experimental measurements performed in laboratory tests. Finally, the uncertainty of the calibrated model was propagated and contrasted with the experimental data. The developed model is a powerful tool when defining the quantity and distribution of dampers in the span of a line.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractHealth environment is a key factor in public health. Since people’s health depends largely on their lifestyle, the built environment which supports a healthy living style is becoming more important. With the right urban planning decisions, it’s possible to encourage healthier living and save healthcare expenditures for the society. However, there is not yet a quantitative relationship established between urban planning decisions and the health status of the residents. With the abundance of data and computing resources, this research aims to explore this relationship with a machine learning method. The data source is from both the OpenStreetMap and American Center for Decease Control and Prevention (CDC). By modeling the Point of Interest data and the geographic distribution of health-related outcome, the research explores the key factors in urban planning that could influence the health status of the residents quantitatively. It informs how to create a built environment that supports health and opens up possibilities for other data-driven methods in this field.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractUnder the background of the construction of cascade reservoir group in the main stream of the Yangtze River, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River are faced with new water and sediment situation, which leads to the increased risk of bank collapse in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to have a certain supporting significance for the prevention and control of riverbank collapse disasters. The study takes the Jiangsu section of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River as the research object. Firstly, according to the measured data over the years, the macroscopic characteristics of the collapsed bank in the Jiangsu section are analyzed, and the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics are mainly analyzed. The research results show that the collapse of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River is dominated by Ω-collapse, which mostly occurs in the flood season and the post-flood receding water period. The frequency of bank collapse in the Yangzhong Reach is relatively the highest among all river segments, and there are more bank collapses on the north bank than the south bank. According to statistics, the average collapse width of the collapse in the Jiangsu section can reach 130 m, the depth of the collapse can reach 60 m, and the ratio of the average bank collapse to the depth can reach 2.15. Then, aiming at the characteristics of the main bank collapse type in the Jiangsu section is the Ω-collapse, the experimental investigation and numerical calculation are used to conduct in-depth research, combined with the measured data, probability and statistical analysis and theoretical analysis. Three-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis is carried out on the mainstream area near the collapse area and outside the collapse area, focusing on the analysis of its nearshore velocity and shear stress and other factors. Combined with the water tank test, the water flow in the inner surface, middle and bottom layers of the Ω-type nest was studied under different flow levels, and it was concluded that the water flow in the nest had a counterclockwise backflow, and the backflow intensity gradually weakened from the side wall to the center. And the phenomenon that the surface layer and the bottom water flow are separated, and this phenomenon becomes more prominent with the increase of the flow rate.

Abstract (sommario):
In this contemporary world, technology is advancing at a rapid pace. In the recent decades, information technology has grown exponentially. Improving data center energy efficiency is an urgent issue with remarkable economic and environmental impacts. Enormous heat generation is fuelled by the data centers. Distribution of heat is a crucial parameter that affects data center cooling and energy consumption. Heat reduction is the crux of environmentally sustainable computing. Typically, data centres lack in effective sensing systems to monitor heat distribution at a large scale. In this chapter, I aim at using sensor networks as a dense instrumentation technology to comprehend and control cooling in data centers. This chapter presents the Aquasar project as the case study and explores the environmental challenges in developing sensor networks in data centers. I also explore the effective way of dealing with the excess heat from multiple servers in the data centers and the upper hand of water cooling over air cooling.

Abstract (sommario):
Extensive archaeological investigations at the site of Pacbitun, a medium-sized Maya center located in west-central Belize, have revealed the large-scale production of marine shell ornaments during Middle Preclassic period (900-300 B.C.). Non-local marine shell and the restricted nature of its distribution indicate that some degree of control may have been exerted over the production and/or distribution of marine shell or the finished shell products. The sheer quantities of shell working debris in the site core of Pacbitun suggest that these ornaments were intended for intra- or extra-community exchange. Two different scenarios are presented to account for the quantity and spatial distribution of Middle Preclassic shell and shell working materials at Pacbitun and in the Belize River valley.

Abstract (sommario):
Due to the popularity of mobile devices, more WIFI access points (APs) are being installed in public spaces, including train stations, airports, campuses, and shopping centers. Any station in WiFi networks will often connect to the AP that is closest to it based on the RSSI value that is the strongest. This user association approach will result in unfair bandwidth distribution and load imbalance when WiFi networks have many stations and an uneven distribution of those stations. By separating the control plane and data plane, software-defined networks (SDN) enable WiFi networks that are programmable, controllable, measurable, and manageable. This paper represents a novel load balancing mechanism based on reinforcement learning and SDN. In our proposed scheme, the center controller collects the number of associated stations with APs and traffic information on each AP’s backhaul link. Then the controller decides the optimal station migration scheme to achieve load balancing among APs, based on collected information and reinforcement learning algorithm. The simulation results illustrate that our algorithm outperforms the RSSI method in terms of throughput of stations and average station number of each AP.

Abstract (sommario):
Structural and functional genomic approaches for marking and identifying genes that control chilling requirement in apricot and peach trees. Specific aims: 1) Identify and characterize the genetic nature of chilling requirement for flowering and dormancy break of vegetative shoots in Prunusgermplasm through the utilization of existing apricot (NeweYa'ar Research Center, ARO) and peach (Clemson University) genetic mapping populations; 2) Use molecular genetic mapping techniques to identify markers flanking genomic regions controlling chilling; 3) Comparatively map the regions controlling chilling requirement in apricot and peach and locate important genomic regions influencing chilling requirement on the Prunus functional genomic database as an initial step for identification of candidate genes; 4) Develop from the functional genomics database a set of markers facilitating the development of cultivars with optimized chilling requirements for improved and sustained fruit production in warm-winter environments. Dormant apricot (prunus armeniaca L.) and peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] trees require sustained exposure to low, near freezing, temperatures before vigorous floral and vegetative bud break is possible after the resumption of warm temperatures in the spring. The duration of chilling required (the chilling requirement, CR) is determined by the climatic adaptation of the particular cultivar, thus limiting its geographic distribution. This limitation is particularly evident when attempting to introduce superior cultivars to regions with very warm winter temperatures, such as Israel and the coastal southern United States. The physiological mechanism of CR is not understood and although breeding programs deliberately manipulate CR in apricot and peach crosses, robust closely associated markers to the trait are currently not available. We used segregating populations of apricot (100 Fl individuals, NeweYa'ar Research Center, ARO) and peach (378 F2 individuals, Clemson University) to discover several discreet genomic loci that regulate CR and blooming date. We used the extensive genomic/genetic resources available for Prunus to successfully combine our apricot and peach genetic data and identify five QTL with strong effects that are conserved between species as well as several QTL that are unique to each species. We have identified markers in the key major QTL regions for testing in breeding programs which we are carrying out currently; we have identified an initial set of candidate genes using the peach physical/transcriptome map and whole peach genome sequences and we are testing these currently to identify key target genes for manipulation in breeding programs. Our collaborative work to date has demonstrated the following: 1) CR in peach and apricot is predominantly controlled by a limited number ofQTL loci, seven detected in a peach F2 derived map comprising 65% of the character and 12 in an apricot Fl map comprising 71.6% and 55.6% of the trait in the Perfection and A. 1740 parental maps, respectively and that peach and apricot appear in our initial maps to share five genomic intervals containing potentially common QTL. 2) Application of common anchor markers of the Prunus/peach, physical/genetic map resources has allowed us not only to identify the shared intervals but also to have immediately available some putative candidate gene information from these intervals, the EVG region on LG1 in peach the TALY 1 region in apricot on LG2 in peach; and several others involved in vernalization pathways (LGI and LG7). 3) Mapped BACcontigs are easily defined from the complete physical map resources in peach through the common SSR markers that anchor our CR maps in the two species, 4) Sequences of BACs in these regions can be easily mined for additional polymorphic markers to use in MAS applications.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction- Malignancy/cancer is a dreadful condition affecting not only physical but also mental wellbeing of a person. Surgeries associated with its treatment are also leads to morbidity. So apart from treatment we need to nd out the factors which are precipitating for any cancer.I tried to study the distribution of malignant cases received in histopathology lab of a tertiary care centre in two and a half month period with respect to its frequency, site, age gender and important histological types. In this study, we Resultshave seen 118 cases of malignancy in histopathology section in 2 and half months period. Ratio of malignancy in male and female is 0.9 that is malignancy rate is slightly more in females. The reason is increasing incidence of malignancy of uterine cervix and breast.Out of 62 cases of malignancy in females ,24 is in cervix only and 11 is in breast, which together constitute more than half of all cases in females. Among males most common malignancy was oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma, it constitute nearly half of all malignant cases in males, which is 27 out of 56 cases. Two cases of laryngeal carcinoma, and 4 cases of urinary bladder carcinoma are seen exclusively in males, Probably because all the three cancers i.e. oral cavity, larynx and urinary bladder are associated with smoking and tobacco chewing .Hence If a campaign is started to Prohibit smoking and tobacco chewing and more important if there production and selling can be banned by government, the incidence of malignancy can become nearly half in males. This study provides a framework for assessing the s Conclusion - tatus and trends of cancer in India. It shall guide for action to strengthen efforts to improve cancer prevention and control to reduce morbidity and mortality

Abstract (sommario):
This paper complements the findings of Atal, Ñopo and Winder (2009) on gender and ethnic wage gaps for 18 Latin American countries circa 2005 by analyzing gender wage gaps for the same countries between circa 1992 and circa 2007. During this span the overall gender earnings gaps dropped about 7 percentage points, while the unexplained component dropped between 3 and 4 percentage points, depending on the control variables used. The gap declined most notably among workers at the bottom of the earnings distribution, with children at home, the self-employed, part-time workers and those in rural areasthe segments of the labor market that were previously reported as having the highest unexplained gender disparities. Most of the reduction in unexplained gaps occurred within segments rather than due to the composition of labor markets. The paper additionally finds a limited role for job tenure in explaining gender wage gaps.

Abstract (sommario):
This technical report (TR) documents the distribution of Invasive Carp - Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), Bighead Carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis), and Black Carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus) in US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) managed waters. Invasive carp were introduced into the US nearly half a century ago. As they spread across the US, they compete with and consume native species and Silver Carp jumping behavior reduces recreational use. The USACE is responsible for management of waterbodies at more than 440 projects. Information on these projects including the presence of Invasive Carp is reported in the USACE Operations and Maintenance Business Information Link (OMBIL) database. To supplement the Invasive Carp information from OMBIL, 47 online ichthyology collection and observation databases were searched; 18 had information on Invasive Carp locations. Combining the collection, observation and OMBIL reporting information, 82 USACE projects in 19 districts in 6 of 8 divisions have Silver/Bighead Carp and 19 projects in 9 districts and 3 divisions have Black Carp. Understanding the distribution of Invasive Carp is important to enable managers to be proactive: planning control efforts, posting informational signs, instituting live bait restrictions, and thus reducing the chances of species introduction or limiting species impact.
