As is well known, according to the "new" theory of reference, the reference relation can be carried out by means of rigid designators whose relationship with the object they designate cannot be analyzed away. Moreover, the new theorists claim, the category of proper names in a natural language marks almost invariably rigid designators. In this paper, both claims are rejected. Using distinctions between the referential system (which determines which entities the primitive symbols of language refer to in each possible world) and the identification system (which determines which member of one world is identical with which member of another), and between two types of object identification (public and perspectival), it is argued that the use of a noun phrase as a rigid designator is predicated on the assumption that a language user knows who (or what) the noun phrase refers to in the actual world. The conclusion is that rigid designation is not a conceptually irreducible reference relation, nor are proper names always used as rigid designators.

Abstract (sommario):
Precision guided munitions are often driven with the help of a special kind of laser beam, pointing onto the target of interest which can be a ground based stationary target or a moving one. The laser source which is popularly known as target designator is a key element in this and plays a vital role in performing any laser guided bombings. In this paper a testing methodology and evaluation technique is described for such a portable high energy laser source. The parameters of the designator are tested in laboratory environment as well as verified in field conditions. The measured and tested parameters are laser source energy, pulse repetition frequency, laser wavelength accuracy and pulse width. A laser guided bomb seeker is also used to test with and verify different designator parameters specially the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) in field conditions. The PRF is generally set in the seeker manually and the designators are fired onto a target for different PRFs and energy levels. If the PRF of the seeker matches with that of the designator then it locks onto the target and if different it does not. In this experiment one more designator is also fired onto a different target within the field of view of the seeker with the same parameters except the energy level. The seeker changes its position to the target having higher energy density provided pulses are within its detection window.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives: The study purpose was to identify the personal resources and social conditions that enhance the leadership skills amongst women in Jordan. It aimed to shed light on the stereotypes, , and beliefs that underlie all aspects of gender-based discrimination in the field of study. Methods: The study relied on the analytical induction methodology. which is implemented by “designation” that is based on asking people “the designator” whether some women “the designatee” were more influential than others in their surroundings. The methodology was applied through conducting several FGDs among various age groups, as well as individual interviews with women who were designated as transformational leaders. Results: The study showed that ethnic affiliation in Jerash and Al-Karak played an important role in the way in which the concepts of masculinity and femininity were socially constructed, and thereby the way in which the concept of women leadership was constructed in those two cultures. The culture of (i.e. Al-Karak) seemed to be more tolerant and had wider space for the creation of female leaders in comparison with cultural environments of (i.e. Jerash). The study also showed that designated female leaders were usually inheritors of a high-level symbolic capital (i.e. middle/upper social class, sophisticated education, etc…). Furthermore, the role model of most female leaders was more likely their father or other charismatic male leaders. Conclusions: The study recommends to build solid foundations that can be followed by educational curricula, and girls' leadership training programmes.

Abstract (sommario):
This research investigates how priming environmental attitudes influences purchase decisions and donations in response to environmental cues in online traveler reviews. An experiment evaluated the effects of priming, green review valence, and green designator cues using a simulated travel website. Priming was implemented using an environmental awareness scale that was completed before viewing the stimuli. Green review valence consisted of customer reviews for a resort that contained positive or negative environmental content. The designator cue was a “green leaders” badge on the resort description. The results indicate that the influence of environmental attitudes is stronger when green content is negative versus positive, and negative environmental content increases donations to environmental causes. Environmental attitude scores moderate the effect of priming those attitudes on behavioral intentions. However, a green designator does not influence outcomes. The findings can help operators promote environmental behaviors and attract travelers through sustainable practices.

Abstract (sommario):
According to the state of testing technology for laser designator multi-parametric, a multi-parameter integrated detection method on the basis of optical collimation and digital image processing technology is proposed, and the way for the detection of multi-parameter characteristics and integrated detection is analyzed. By using the detection principle of large aperture lens focus spot method, the parameter measurements, such as the divergence angle of the laser designator beam, displacement amount of the light spot move, spot of adjustment range and deviation and the multi-axis consistency are measured. Simultaneously, the parameters of the sight line alteration of daylight aiming sight, the graduation precision can also be tested. By the analysis of experiment,the method has high detection accuracy and detection efficiency.

<abstract><p>In order to ensure that only the designated person can verify the signer's signature on the message, Steinfeld et al. introduced the concept of Universal Designated Verifier Signature (UDVS), which enables a designator who has obtained a signature on a message from the signer to designate the signature to any desired designated verifier. This idea was developed to address the privacy concerns of the signature holder at the time of certificate distribution. They are appropriate for applications that demand the designer's secrecy. The fact that the designated verifier must generate a public key with regard to the signer's public parameter for signature verification is a significant drawback of UDVS methods. In cases where the verifier is unable to begin the key generation procedure, this constraint is inapplicable. Baek et al. developed the idea of "Universal Designated Verifier Signature Proof (UDVSP)", which does not require the verifier's public key for verification, to get around this restriction. All existing UDVSP constructions are based on a discrete logarithm problem, which is vulnerable to quantum computer attacks. As a result, an efficient quantum resistant UDVSP is built on a hard problem in coding theory, as suggested by NIST reports. The scheme's security against forgeability and impersonation attacks is examined using the random oracle model.</p></abstract>

In the Civil Aviation sphere, Research activities aim to improve efficiency and tightening safety targets by providing new strategies of operations, all this is achieved through the implementation of modern and new Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management process. In Air Navigation, these goals are met by improving the exiting services and introduce the new one applicable for navigation towards safety, more reliable approach in all weather conditions. The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has been identified as a key to technology by providing essential position and timing information supporting flight and ATM operations. GNSS can be observed in the fitting of new CA Aircraft, since a majority of them are now equipped with its receivers. GNSS contains numerous satellites, for instance GPS for The United State of America, Glonass for Russian Federation, Galileo for Europeans Unions, Beidou for Chinese, and more that are still under development. This Master’s has demonstrated the power and benefits of combining two satellites for better performance This thesis argues that atmospheric layers (Ionosphere, Troposphere) do play a vital role on the perturbation of signals from Satellites, in order to improve navigation regardless of the lost signals. Pseudo-range model is presented together with the performance of GNSS integrity with two constellations (GPS combined with Galileo). However, a significant number of reports have been received on different harmful interference to GNSS signals and some suggestions to correct those were mentioned. This thesis focuses on the final approach of an aircraft using combined signals for reliability and safety navigation in CAT I operation. Lastly an innovative algorithm is presented for better guidance at the final approach.

Abstract (sommario):
Due to socio-political transformation, South Africa has been subjected to dramatic changes that influenced employment relationships, employment contracts between employees and employers arid the psychological contract of employees. Due to all these socio-political changes different groups of employees experience differences in their psychological contracts and have certain expectations that their organisation should fulfil. The general objective of this research is to determine the psychological contract of designated and non-designated groups of a banking institution in the North West Province. A cross-sectional survey design was used to collect the data and reach the objectives of this study. Stratified random sample (n = 131) was taken from permanently appointed designated and non-designated employees of different branches in a South African banking institution in the North West Province. A structured, self-completion questionnaire was used to collect the data. The Psycones Questionnaire and discrimination and affirmative action questions were selected from different existing questionnaires and were used to compile the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics (e.g. means, standard deviations, skewness and kurtosis) were used to analyse the data. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationships between the variables. Multiple regression analyses were used to investigate the effects of the variables in this study, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was performed to assess the differences in the experience of affirmative action policies of demographic groups. Item-level analysis is performed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results indicated that designated and non-designated groups of employees do not experience a difference in their breach or violation of their psychological contracts when affirmative action policies are correctly implemented and communicated. Based on the findings of this study organisations are advised to ensure that affirmative action policies are implemented correctly and communicated to all groups of employees, and then designated and non-designated employees would not differ in their experience of violation in their psychological contracts. Limitations in the research are identified and recommendations were made.

Digital signatures are one of the most significant achievements of public-key cryptography and constitute a fundamental tool to ensure data authentication. However, the public verifiability of digital signatures may have undesirable consequences when manipulating sensitive and private information. Undeniable signatures, whose verification requires the cooperation of the signer in an interactive way, were invented due to such considerations. Whereafter, designated confirmer signatures (DCS) were introduced as an improved cryptographic primitive when the signer becomes unavailable in undeniable signatures. This thesis is mainly devoted to the modelling, design and analysis of designated confirmer signatures. By exploiting the existing security notions, we theoretically analyse the relations among unimpersonation, invisibility, non-transferability and transcript-simulatability. To this end, we develop formal proofs to demonstrate the implications of those properties. After providing the theoretical results related to the security model, we develop both concrete and generic DCS constructions that adapts to a full verification setting. On one hand, by supporting the signer’s ability to disavow, we can achieve an efficient designated confirmer signature by using bilinear maps, and such a construction is secure in the random oracle model under a new computational assumption. On the other hand, we build a generic transformation that is inspired by Gentry, Molnar, Ramzan’s DCS scheme. The new generic DCS scheme is proved to be secure in the standard model, and can be implemented to obtain an efficient instantiation.

A potência de um sistema designador laser é uma das principais características para a operação e manutenção operacionais. O conhecimento da energia refletida por um alvo mediante designação laser depende do profundo conhecimento da geometria de iluminação e observação, das características biofísicas do alvo, bem como da energia radiante que chega até ele. O cálculo da respectiva energia é bem conhecido quando se trata de fontes naturais como é o caso do sol, porém, quando a fonte é um laser pulsado, a interação entre sistema designador e alvo muda completamente, mesmo para os alvos com comportamento lambertiano, ou seja, alvos que apresentem os mesmos valores de radiância para qualquer ponto de observação e iluminação em um mesmo comprimento de onda. A metodologia proposta neste trabalho para a medição da potência de laser designador adota como objeto de estudo o sistema Litening III, o qual emite um feixe laser pulsado na faixa do infravermelho próximo do espectro eletromagnético (EEM). Para a validação do procedimento, um conjunto de medições foi conduzido com o laser designador Litening III da aeronave A-1 da Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB), usando dispositivos de laboratório do Instituto de Estudos Avançados (IEAv) do Departamento de Ciência e Tecnologia Aeroespacial (DCTA). Como resultados das medições de potência de pico, foram encontrados valores da ordem de ? 8,43 MW, assim como foram medidos a qualidade do feixe laser (M2) e sua divergência (?) na Frequência de Repetição de Pulso (FRP) de 20 Hz, obtendo-se valores de 45,5 e 0,88 mrad, respectivamente, com uma incerteza máxima de 10% para o método utilizado. Os resultados experimentais obtidos foram utilizados em análises operacionais que retratam as possibilidades de emprego da aeronave designadora, bem como reforçaram a necessidade de se aperfeiçoar as medidas de segurança laser com operadores e mantenedores da aeronave A-1.

After focusing in a previous work (Giancarli, 2014) on the global factors involved in the emergence of DOM in Corsican, we would like here, based on a corpus almost twice as large, to concentrate on the local factors. We identify two: the DOM-ed object is either the marker of a scanning operation or a designator. Being able to cover most of the uses in Corsican and even integrate some marginal uses, these two factors branch into four (the scanning operation can be performed with or without totalization, and designators can be rigid or flaccid) while they can at the same time be reduced to an invariant: a DOM-ed object is an argument set out of contrast.
