Abstract (sommario):
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problems, such as high relative humidity and microbiological (bacteria and mold) growth in accommodation and office buildings, can cause health effects for the occupants. People commonly have activities inside the buildings all day long. This study aimed to determine the impact of HVAC systems on IAQ parameters and microbiological growth. The study was conducted in accommodation and office buildings that had been identified with IAQ problems. The research methodology used a quantitative cross-sectional study design with statistical comparison analysis and statistical correlation analysis. The statistic results showed that relative humidity (RH) significantly had a strong correlation (r=0.520, 95% CI) with mold growth in ambient air of accommodation; O2 had a significantly strong correlation (r=0.541, 95% CI) with bacteria growth in ambient air at the office; VOC (r=0.853, 95% CI) and CO2 (r=0.803, 95% CI) had a very strong correlation with mold growth at office surface area. High humidity contributed to risk on IAQ (OR=50, 95% CI). Significant improvement was shown in relative humidity at all buildings, especially at the office, but mold and bacteria growth were offered only at the accommodation. Therefore, a comprehensive evaluation was needed to improve the IAQ and modify the HVAC system.

Abstract (sommario):
One advantage of highly automated vehicles is drivers can use commute time for non-driving tasks, such as work-related tasks. The potential for an auto-mobile office—a space where drivers work in automated vehicles—is a complex yet underexplored idea. This paper begins to define a design space of the auto- mobile office in SAE Level 3 automated vehicles by integrating the affinity diagram (AD) with a computational representation of the abstraction hierarchy (AH). The AD uses a bottom-up approach where researchers starting with individual findings aggregate and abstract those into higher-level concepts. The AH uses a top-down approach where researchers start with first principles to identify means-ends links between system goals and concrete forms of the system. Using the programming language R, the means-ends links of AH can be explored statistically. This computational approach to the AH provides a systematic means to define the design space of the auto-mobile office.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Many researchers have differed on the optimum values of Daylighting and Passive Indoor Thermal Comfort (DPITC) determinants in tropical climates. The study is aimed at developing a framework for optimising DPITC in singled-banked office buildings, during the activity period (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), in the temperate dry climate of Nigeria. It was achieved by evaluating the effects of orientation, window-to-wall ratio (WWR), R-values of external wall insulation material, and shading devices on DPITC. A quantitative research design using an explorative design approach was employed in the study as well as an experimental research strategy through simulation method to optimise DPITC. The study used the Federal Secretariat building of Nigeria as a prototype of a single-banked office building. The Google SketchUp Pro 2022 and OpenStudio 3.3.0 simulation tools were used to evaluate the prototype building from January to December 2023. The data generated was analysed using relevant statistical tools (MANOVA, ANOVA, column charts, graphs, and tables). The findings revealed that the best WWR for daylighting and passive indoor thermal comfort are 20% and 15% respectively, while the compromise value was 20%. It was also noted that the R-value of the external wall insulation material does not affect the daylighting of an office building but affects the passive indoor thermal comfort, where the optimum R-value was of 3.26 m2·K/W. The mathematical model was developed as A= 224.58 − 1254.84 WWR+ 102.87 PF − 4.11R … … .1 where A is orientation, WWR window-to-wall ratio, PF projection factor, and R is the R-value of the external wall materials.

Abstract (sommario):
Inventory management, especially those related to office equipment in an organization or company, is an important thing to do. Goods that are not managed properly have the potential to increase costs and inventory shortages. Inventory management is a solution to manage goods properly. Inventory management was then further developed using the periodic review method. This study discussed how the periodic review method is used to manage the needs of office stationery in universities. The waterfall method was chosen to be a reference in the development of information systems. The information system framework was divided into three parts, which consist of input, process, and output. The output of the information system was in the form of parameter information (R, s, S) for each item. The results of the study have shown that the periodic review method is very useful to use to make decisions about the right time and amount in determining the replenishment of goods in university.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: Renal denervation (RDN) attenuates the sympathetic nervous system overactivity that characterizes patients with elevated blood pressure (BP). Given that accurate predictors of BP response to RDN remain to be identified and that metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scintigraphy allows non-invasive assessment of sympathetic nerve activity, we explored if the kidney, heart and lung MIBG uptake predict BP response to RDN. Design and method: Thirteen patients with difficult-to-treat hypertension underwent radiofrequency-based RDN. Before the procedure, clinical and pharmacological history, office and ambulatory BP values and cardiovascular risk factors were recorded. Patients also underwent preprocedural rest echocardiography and MIBG scintigraphy. After RDN, a follow-up visit was performed at 3 months, with registration of office and ambulatory BP values. We considered as responders (R) those patients showing a reduction of office BP values on unchanged BP-lowering treatment and those who reduced the number and/or dosage of BP-lowering medications while maintaining optimal control of office BP. Results: Seven patients were classified as R (1 woman, mean age 48±11 years), while 6 were non-responders (NR) (2 women, mean age 50±8 years). The reduction in office systolic and diastolic BP values from baseline to 3 months was significantly larger in R vs NR (p=0.01). Furthermore, the burden of BP-lowering medications after the procedure was reduced more significantly in R (-44%) than NR (-16%), p<0.01. Baseline heart rate was the only clinical parameter significantly different between R (median 82, IQR [67-98]) bpm vs NR (median 62, IQR [60-72]) bpm, p<0.05. In early MIBG acquisitions, the lung/mediastinum ratio on both sides showed higher MIBG uptake in R vs NR (p<0.05). In late acquisitions, only the left side showed a significant difference between R and NR (p<0.05). There was a higher MIBG uptake in the right vs. left lung in the whole population and in R vs NR. All other MIBG scintigraphy parameters were similar between groups. Conclusions: Among patients with difficult-to-treat hypertension, those responding to RDN showed a higher lung/mediastinum ratio at MIBG scintigraphy and a higher heart rate before the procedure. Further studies are needed to confirm these preliminary results.

Abstract (sommario):
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has been broadly applied in electric vehicles (EVs) and the market adoption of EVs can be further improved with enhanced fast charging capabilities. The state-of-the-art chemistries, such as LiNixMnyCo1-x-yO2 (NMC) and graphite, are capable for fast charging. However, the electrodes are limited to thin coating due to mass transport limitation, which results in low energy density and high cost [1]. For example, the United States Department of Energy (DOE) issued a call for proposal in 2017 to enable extreme fast charging with a target of cell energy density higher than 180 Wh/kg which is much lower than that under normal application. The energy density of LIBs depends on the materials properties and cell engineering. In this presentation, the impact of cell design on energy density under fast charging will be discussed. Specifically, design in electrodes, current collectors, electrolyte, and separator will be elaborated to show their correlation to fast charging application [2-3]. Abstract (sommario):
Based on results from a one-year intensive monitoring project of a Northern New York commercial building with energy-conserving design features, a thermal storage project was undertaken to optimize the design of a thermal mass storage system for a moderately sized commercial building and transfer the technology to the commercial building sector. A generic commercial building design of 27,000 square feet (2508 m2) was selected for the optimization project. Several different types of thermal mass designs were considered as potentially practical for a commercial building. These included a “sandmass” design such as the mass incorporated in the previously monitored commercial building mentioned above, a foundation slab of sufficient thickness to serve as a significant building thermal mass, and the use of poured cement in interior wall and floor construction. Five different office building thermal designs were selected which represented various thermal storage features and two different building insulation levels (R10 and R20). Energy performance of the five thermal designs was modeled in building energy simulations using DOE 2.1C (Department of Energy 2.1C) energy simulation code. Results of the simulations showed a reduction in peak heating and cooling loads would be experienced by the HVAC equipment. The reduction in peak heating and cooling loads was anticipated because thermal mass within a building serves to average peak heating and cooling loads due to the capacity of the thermal mass to store and release heat from all building heat sources over a period of time. Peak heating loads varied from 1972 kBtuh (578 kW) for the R-10 light construction base case to a minimum of 980 kBtuh (287 kW) for the R-20 heavy construction sandmass storage case. Peak cooling loads dropped from 772 kBtuh (226 kW) for the R-20 light construction case to 588 kBtuh (172 kW) for the R-20 heavy construction sandmass storage case. Results of the simulations also showed annual energy savings for the high thermal mass designs. Energy savings varied from 20 percent [16.0 kBtu/ft2 (50 kWh/m2)] for the R-10 high thermal mass design in comparison to its base case to 18 percent [12.2 kBtu/ft2 (39 kWh/m2)] for the R-20 high thermal mass design in comparison to its base case. The annual energy savings are due to the ability of the thermal mass to absorb heat from all sources of heat generation (lights, occupancy, solar, and auxiliary) during occupied periods and release the heat during unoccupied periods. An optimized thermal design was developed based on results from the DOE 2.1C simulations. The initial cost for the optimized thermal storage design is lower than the initial costs for light construction office buildings, since the lower initial cost of the down-sized HVAC system for the optimized thermal storage design more than offsets the increased cost of wall and floor systems incorporated in the optimized design. Annual energy savings are realized from the high thermal mass system in both cooling and heating modes due to the interaction of building HVAC systems operation in the simulated 27000 ft2 (2508 m2) office building. Annual operating savings of $3781 to $4465 per year are estimated based on simulation results.

Abstract (sommario):
The new decade will be a major challenge for built environment to satisfy building users and owners demands for superior IEQ in the work environment and tackle infection risk issues brought by SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We collected thermal comfort and IAQ data from modern Estonian office buildings showing that improvements are needed in whole chain of the HVAC science, engineering and manufacturing because current solutions in these buildings have led to many complaints of draught and readjustments of supply air temperature have typically compromised energy performance. To achieve Category II or I IEQ, more systematic design methodologies are needed. Additionally, ventilation rate and air distribution dimensioning based on respiratory infection risk has to be taken into use as a complementary method of existing ones for office space AC and ventilation design, where both net floor area and occupant number define the required ventilation. Based on air velocity and temperature (operative, supply air and local) measurements conducted in five office buildings a new IEQ design methods were developed to satisfy the thermal comfort indices leading to low occupant complaints and not compromising energy performance at the same time. In well ventilated Category I and II office spaces, control of draught risk is an extensive design task for which new methodology was developed. Our method focuses separately on IEQ parameters during heating, cooling and midseason, from which the latter one is the longest and the most dominating one. The design method is presented by connecting thermal comfort and infection risk with ventilation rate. Infection risk based air flow rate selection diagram and corresponding air velocity diagrams for an open plan office and 3-person room showing the possibilities to size ventilation for the event reproduction number of R = 0.5 were constructed.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this researh is to determine the results of the development of scientific-based textbooks at office technology subjects at SMK Ketintang Surabaya. The office technology teacher at Ketintang Vocational School in Surabaya stated that teaching materials in the form of textbooks did not exist before. This whole time, the teacher uses LKS and materials found from the internet for the learning activities. However, the LKS used is not in accordance with the syllabus in the revised edition of the 2013 curriculum which emphasizes on the scientific learning (5M). This definitely does not reflect the characteristics of learning that should be student-centered. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D development model developed by Thiagarajan, namely defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. However, this research was only carried out until the design stage only due to the limitations in this study. The results of this research are analyzing the textbooks that will be developed which begin with the define stage which includes the preliminary analysis, analysis of students, task analysis, concept analysis, and specifications of learning objectives. Next step is the design phase which includes the preparation of the textbook, the selection of the textbook format, and the design of the textbook itself. Therefore, it is expected that the development of scientific-based textbooks in office technology subjects at SMK Ketintang Suarabaya can help the teachers to deliver the learning materials and can facilitate students in understanding those materials in office technology subjects.

Abstract (sommario):
♦ Objective Hypertension, reduced arterial distensibility, and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) are risk factors for mortality in hemodialysis patients. However, few studies have focused on the relation between fluid status, blood pressure (BP), and cardiovascular abnormalities in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. This study was designed, first, to assess, using tracer dilution techniques, fluid status in PD patients compared to a control population of stable renal transplant (RTx) patients; second, to study the relation between fluid status, BP, and arterial wall abnormalities; third, to assess the determinants of cardiac structure; and last, to compare office and ambulatory BP measurements with respect to cardiac abnormalities. ♦ Design Cross-sectional study. ♦ Setting Multicenter study. ♦ Patients 41 stable PD patients with a mean Kt/V urea of 2.4 ± 0.7, and 77 stable RTx patients. ♦ Intervention Fluid status was assessed by tracer dilution techniques: extracellular volume (ECV) with bromide dilution; total body water (TBW) with deuterium oxide; and plasma volume (PV) with dextran 70. Echocardiography was performed to assess left ventricular mass (LVM), left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD), and relative wall thickness as indicators of LVH. Echography of the common carotid artery was performed to assess arterial distensibility. Both office and 24-hour ambulatory BP measurements were performed. ♦ Results Fluid status, as assessed by ECV corrected for body surface area (BSA) (ECV:BSA), was significantly different between PD and RTx patients (9.4 ± 2.6 vs 8.6 ± 1.2 L/m2, p < 0.05). In 36.6% of the PD patients, ECV:BSA was above the 90th percentile of the RTx patients. Fluid status corrected for BSA, assessed by TBW (TBW:BSA), ECV (ECV:BSA), or plasma volume (PV:BSA), was significantly related to diastolic BP (DBP) ( r = 0.35, r = 0.37, r = 0.53; p < 0.05). Arterial distensibility of the common carotid artery was related to systolic BP (SBP) ( r = –0.36, p < 0.05). ECV was significantly related to LVEDD ( r = 0.41, p < 0.05) as a marker of eccentric LVH, whereas arterial distensibility was related to relative wall thickness ( r = –0.53, p < 0.001) as a marker of concentric LVH. An abnormal day–night BP rhythm, which was not related to fluid status, was observed in 68.4% of patients. Ambulatory DBP and SBP but not office DBP and SBP were related to LVM ( r = 0.43, r = 0.46; p < 0.01). ♦ Conclusions A large proportion of PD patients whose treatment prescriptions are in accordance with the Dialysis Outcomes Quality Initiative guidelines were found to be overhydrated compared with a population of stable RTx patients. Fluid status was significantly related to DBP and eccentric LVH, whereas arterial distensibility of the common carotid artery was significantly related to SBP and concentric LVH. In contrast to ambulatory BP, office BP was not related to LVM.

Abstract (sommario):
Green building certification is a useful way to support objective evaluations of the sustainability of a building. Both the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Energy Star certifications are designed to reduce the negative environmental impacts of buildings and provide positive economic benefits to certified buildings. Given that a demonstrable positive economic impact is also required to satisfy one element of the triple bottom line of sustainability for these certifications, this study examined the economic impact of LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings on the market values of adjoining buildings in Manhattan, New York City (NYC), using a spatial analysis based on a Geographic Information System (GIS) and a statistical analysis utilizing R-Project. The study's findings reveal a positive impact for LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings on their adjoining buildings, pointing to the need for future research to investigate the spillover effect of LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings on other buildings in their neighborhood from a socio-economic standpoint.

Abstract (sommario):
Temperature, rainfall and relative humidity are considered important climatic factors that contribute to the growth and spread of mosquito vectors and potential dengue outbreaks. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of air temperature, humidity, and rainfall with the incidence of DHF in the city of Palu in 2013-2017. This type of research is quantitative with correlation design. The sampling technique uses total sampling. The data source uses secondary data, namely the number of DHF events from the Palu City Health Office and climate data from the Mutiara Palu Meteorological Station. Data analysis using Pearson correlation test, the results of the study showed the strength of the temperature relationship with the incidence of DHF was very weak (r = -0.087), negative patterned and there was no significant relationship (ρ = 0.253). The strength of the humidity relationship with the incidence of DHF was very weak (r = 0.029), positive patterned and there was no significant relationship (ρ = 0.412). The relationship strength of rainfall with the incidence of DHF was very weak (r = 0.001), positive patterned and there was no significant relationship (ρ = 0.496). The conclusion was not found a meaningful relationship between the variables of temperature, humidity, and rainfall with the incidence of DHF. To overcome the DHF incident, it is expected that the Palu City Health Office can increase efforts to control DHF by increasing environmental improvement by running programs such as 3M Plus, Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN), Abatization, and fogging.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction Sports clubs in Switzerland face increasing expectations and challenges from internal and external stakeholders. Therefore, more and more sports clubs professionalise their structures and processes, e.g., by establishing a club office with (part-time) employees. Since there is little knowledge in the sports management literature about the causes, forms and consequences of establishing a club office, this study answers the following research questions based on the multi-level framework from Nagel et al. (2015): Why and how do Swiss sports clubs establish a club office? What are the consequences of establishing a club office? Methods We selected five Swiss sports clubs in the context of a multiple case study design (Yin, 2014). Case selection aimed to include sports clubs of varying sizes, sports and professionalisation types. Data were collected through document analysis, expert interviews with decision-makers and focus groups with club members. Data were analysed using causation coding (Miles et al., 2014). Results Findings show different causes for establishing a club office. The main reason was to relieve volunteer board members. The various causes imply different roles and responsibilities of the established club office. While in some sports clubs, the club office is primarily responsible for administrative tasks, in others, it is also responsible for sponsorship. This circumstance explains why some sports clubs did not have to increase their membership fees to finance the club office because they could increase their sponsorship revenue. Although the club office staff is paid in all sports clubs, the volume of work varies. However, the paid staff often works more than agreed (“volunteer professionals”). Regarding the consequences, all sports clubs that established a club office are satisfied with their decision. Positive consequences are that a “place to go” was created for internal and external stakeholders, and many club processes are more efficient now. However, establishing a club office with (part-time) employees raises the question of strategic and operational responsibilities and decision-making power. Discussion/Conclusion The findings offer several implications for sports clubs that want to establish a club office. At the same time, the study provides further research perspectives. First, it might be insightful to analyse if there are any relevant differences in whether a sports club transforms its secretariat into a club office or establishes a club office for the first time. Second, there are further changes regarding the organisational structures and processes that are worth looking at when analysing the establishment of a club office, such as creating an executive/management board or employing a (paid) CEO. To conclude, it might be interesting to analyse sports clubs that have established a club office but shut it down after a while. References Miles, M. B., Hubermann, A. M., & Saldaña, J. (2014). Abstract (sommario):
Objective: Studies based on data from adults show an important role of microRNAs in the development of hypertension and their impact on hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD). The aim was to examine the expression of miR-21, miR-27a, miR-27b, miR-133a, and miR-145 in hypertensive pediatric patients and reveal their correlation with blood pressure parameters, properties of the arteries, and myocardial hypertrophy. Design and method: In 22 teenagers (18 boys, 4 girls, 15.1±1.9 years) with primary hypertension, we assessed mentioned above microRNA expression levels before and after one hour of aerobic exercise session, office and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure and HMOD indicators, such as left ventricle mass index (LVMI), urinary albumin-creatine ratio, pulse wave velocity (PWV), and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT). Relative microRNA expression was calculated with the 2^-δδCt method with miR-16 as endogenous control and baseline (before exercise session) microRNA expression taken as a control value. Results: In the studied children, we observed significant decrease in both office and 24 hour ambulatory diastolic blood pressure after one-hour exercise (82.2±8.5 vs. 78.6±8.8 [mm Hg], p=0.01 and 75.0±8.3 vs. 73.0±7.4 [mm Hg], p=0.02). In the whole group there were no significant changes in expression of the studied microRNA molecules after an exercise session. The post-exercise increase in miR-133a expression level showed a positive correlation with LVMI [g/m2.7] (R=0.491, p=0.02). Conversely, post-exercise increase in miR-145 expression correlated negatively with post-exercise both systolic and diastolic office and 24-hour blood pressure, 24-hour PWV, and cIMT (R=-0.428, p=0.047 and R=-0.430; p=0.046, and R=-0.455, p=0.033, respectively). None of the studied microRNA molecules correlated with age. Conclusions: 1.MicroRNA-133a might be a marker of left ventricular hypertrophy in children with primary hypertension. 2. Exercise-induced change in microRNA-145 expression may lower post-exercise blood pressure and have a protective effect against arterial damage in children with primary hypertension. 3. Both miR-133a and miR-145 may be involved in epigenetic modifications in pediatric patients with primary hypertension influencing HMOD.

Abstract (sommario):
A variety of greenhouse gas reduction scenarios have been proposed around the world to ensure sustainable developments and strengthen the global response to the climate change. To cope with this, it is urgently needed to reduce the amount of energy used for the heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigerating (HVAC&R) systems in large buildings. This study discusses the reduction of cooling energy in large office buildings through the minimization of changes in components and equipment, such as heat source equipment and pumps, changes in the layout and operating methods of chilled water circulation pumps, and changes in the temperatures of chilled and condenser water. To do this, this study targeted an entire cooling system consisting of a hydronic system, a chiller, and a cooling tower, and conducted a quantitative analysis of the energy consumption and of the reduction achieved through a change in the pumping system type in the cooling system and a change in the Korean standard design and temperature of chiller and cooling tower via EnergyPlus simulations. The simulation results showed a cooling energy reduction of 103.2 MWh/yr, around 15.7%, where the primary constant-speed system (Case A) was changed to a primary variable-speed pump (Case B) in the configuration with a chilled water circulation pump. To reduce the cooling energy further, annually 142.3 MWh, around 21.7%, Case C in this study changed the outlet temperature of the chiller and temperature difference from 7 °C, 5 K to 9 °C, 9 K. Finally, when applying a change in the condenser water production temperature from 32 to 23.9 °C in accordance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 for Case D, a cooling energy saving of 182.4 MWh/yr was observed, which is about 27.8%.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: Preterm birth is a risk factor for hypertension (HTN), chronic kidney disease (CKD) and adverse cardiovascular (CV) outcomes. The aims of the study were to evaluate the utility of eGFR based on cystatin C (Cys C) compared to creatinine in regard to associations with office blood pressure (BP) and central systolic BP (cSBP). Design and method: This case-control study included 52 children and adolescents born prematurely (ex-preterms) and 26 at full term (controls) matched for age in 2:1 ratio. All participants underwent office BP and cSBP measurement and laboratory evaluation including assessment of CysC values at the same visit. Results: Mean age of the population was 10.74±3.55 years. There were no significant differences in BP levels, eGFR(creatinine) and eGFR(CysC) between ex-preterm and control group. CysC levels were similar between the ex-preterm and the control group. CysC significantly correlated with cSBP z score (r=0.32, p=0.02, Spearman test). This association remained significant after adjustment for age, sex and BMI z score in the ex-preterm group (B=1.003, 95%CI 1.001-0.005, p=0.006). 42% (n=22) of the ex-preterm children presented cSBP levels greater than the 95th percentile. eGFR(CysC) presented positive association with office DBP (r=-0.37, p= 0.006, Spearman test) and cSBP z score (r= -0.32, p=0.022, Spearman test) in the ex-preterm group, but not in the control group (Figure). eGFR(creatinine) did not associate with BP parameters. eGFR(creatinine) overestimated eGFR levels in ex-preterm group (mean difference 20.56±22.66, p <0.001). Two (3%) and 17(32.6%) ex preterm children had GFR < 90 ml/min/1.73m2 by creatinine-based eGFR compared by eGFR(CysC). Conclusions: eGFR(CysC) presents apositive association with cSBP and thus, may better classify future cardiovascular risk in ex-preterm children. cSBP elevation and its association with CysC maybe a target for future studies to elucidate the role of central hemodynamic alterations in the development of HTN and CV disease in the ex-preterm individuals.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the most potent sources of air pollution is from the industrial sector. The air pollutants produced from the industry are TSP dust. Long exposure for a long time can pose a risk in the form of impaired pulmonary function capacity. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between years of work, dust levels with impaired lung capacity in the environment of hot mix asphalt production officers in the Public Works Office of Medan City. This type of research is observational analytic with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 45 workers in the hot mix asphalt production section in the AMP area of the Medan City Public Works Service. The results of the study found that the dust levels in AMP were still below the NAB, ranging from 2-8.10 mg / m3, workers who had pulmonary function disorders were 15 people (34%). The results of the analysis using the Pearson correlation test showed that there was a moderate relationship between dust exposure and lung function capacity with a value of r = -0.432, p = 0.003, and there was a weak relationship between the work period and the function of pulmonary function with a value of r = -0.384, p = 0.009 . Therefore, it is recommended to the Public Works Office of Medan City to provide respirators for workers to prevent the excessive entry of dust into the body.

Abstract (sommario):
This study aims to examine the association between workplace layout typology and employees’ physical activity, sedentary behavior, and health. A multi-method approach was conducted for collecting data in four governmental office buildings in Erbil city between April 2022 and June 2022. Qualitative data collection includes architectural plan analysis and photography. Quantitative data collection includes a self-reported questionnaire by participating 132 desk-based employees measuring daily physical activity, sedentary behavior, and physical and mental health. For analyzing the collected responses from the desk-based employees of government office buildings, IBM SPSS (statistical package for the social sciences) software V.25 was adopted. The result shows that there is a significant difference in the mean value of physical activity among employees, physical activity. Despite the low level of physical activity, employees working in linear layout buildings were more physically active than those in radial layout (linear=1.31, P-value < 0.000; radial = 1.13, P-value<0.000). The result also shows that there is a significant positive relation between sedentary behavior and physical health (r= 0.191, P-value<0.05), and mental health (r= 0.172, P-value<0.05). Based on these findings, we can infer that improving the quality of the built environment and implementing active design solutions contribute to promoting physical activity, decreasing sedentary behavior, and enhancing occupational health.

Abstract (sommario):
Increasingly well-developed workplace acoustic standards have resulted in more consistent outcomes across projects and normalized occupant expectations of acoustic quality, enhancing productivity and satisfaction. Yet these standards are often not developed for or applied to R&D and manufacturing spaces that include traditional workplace room types and uses; design criteria is limited to OSHA-assessment for noise-at-work violations. Hybrid office buildings incorporating prototyping and maker spaces are common today and often contain high-noise equipment traditionally found in dedicated machine shops. As these facilities are incorporated alongside traditional offices, noise and vibration levels generated by fabrication equipment should be accurately quantified to avoid compromised workplace acoustics. While sound data is available for most large construction equipment, available data for smaller fabrication machines typically found in machine shops is often non-standardized and difficult to obtain. Field measurement of existing equipment installations can ground an acoustical analysis with real-world data and be highly valuable in evaluating potential noise and vibration impacts and applying cost-effective mitigation during design. This case study will present measurements obtained during a noise and vibration assessment of an existing machine shop located within an office building. The discussion will include limitations of the data and an assessment of potential for disruptions.

Abstract (sommario):
Composite catalytic aerogels comprise a highly-flexible design motif for the creation of solar fuels photocatalysts. We exploit the compositional and interfacial design flexibility of catalytic aerogels to couple surface plasmon resonant (SPR) guests to nanometric oxidation and reduction catalysts in one hierarchical photocatalytic composite architecture. In our composite aerogels, the nanoscale TiO2 aerogel acts as a 3D-interconnected network of nanowires that couples all of the functional elements required to photogenerate molecular hydrogen from visible light and water: visible light sensitization, electron and ion transport, and oxidation and reduction catalysis. We investigate the effects of synthetically modifying the TiO2 aerogel network and the nanoparticulate Au||TiO2 interfaces in plasmonic Au–TiO2 aerogels on light sensitization, carrier (electron–hole pair) generation, and photocatalytic H2 evolution under both broadband (i.e., UV + visible) and visible excitation. We also introduce oxidation and reduction co-catalyst nanoparticles into the plasmonic aerogels, creating composite aerogels that perform visible light SPR–driven photocatalytic reduction of water to generate H2. The nanostructured high surface–area network in the aerogel spatially and effectively separates charge while electrochemically connecting plasmonic nanoparticle sensitizers and metal nanoparticle all in one mesoscale architecture and at length scales compatible with the kinetics of each reaction. Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of a critical subsystem development indigenously on the outcome of an Indian defence R&D project. Indigenous development of the critical subsystem requires the development of a number of technologies; hence the study is taken up for indigenously development of critical subsystem. Design/methodology/approach A simulation-based approach is used in this paper for studying the effect of indigenization decisions. A defence R&D project with the critical subsystems is modeled in Graphical Evolution and Review Technique (GERT) networks, and simulated in Arena simulation software using discrete event simulation model. The simulation model is thereafter experimented with decision options for the critical subsystem. Data were collected from the project management office (PMO) of short range homing guided missile (SRHGM) for this simulation study. Findings It has been found in this case that timely development of technology plays a key role in the Indian defence R&D projects. While indigenization of critical components reduces cost of development, the trade-off lies in much increased project development time. It is imperative that project teams should identify critical components early and work out appropriate strategies of indigenous development to avoid time overrun of the projects. Research limitations/implications The accuracy of results of the study could perhaps be affected on account of the extent of data forthcoming from the PMO. However, GERT framework presented in this paper is realistically derived from the practices used in the SRHGM project. Originality/value The study would help the project teams to identify critical subsystems early and work out appropriate strategies of indigenous development to avoid time overrun of the projects. This study would also make the project as well as the R&D teams aware of the causes for delays and cost overruns, and assist to deliver a product meeting end-user requirements.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The approach of Western companies to internationalise their R&D by establishing R&D sites in emerging markets (EMs) has led to a discussion about the role of R&D in home markets and host markets. The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the evolution of foreign R&D sites of Western companies in EMs and their role using China as the empirical context. Design/methodology/approach The study uses the State Intellectual Property Office database, and investigates about 2,000 patent families of the top 14 Western patent applicants in China. Findings The results indicate a gradual shift from an exploitative to an exploratory role of R&D sites in China. The study also shows evident learning effects on Western R&D from local counterparts. Research limitations/implications The paper motivates further research of R&D internationalisation approaches within EMs, and explores the changing role of local subsidiaries. While the study is only focussed on China, the applicability of the results is limited in context of other countries, due to cultural, economic and legislative differences. Practical implications This study shows the increasing importance of EMs such as China and how these markets, known for imitations and cheap resources, are gradually moving towards innovations and creating new technologies locally. Originality/value Based on the patent analysis, this study shows the growing importance of the local R&D subsidiaries of Western multinationals in China.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Longer work processes with non-ergonomic working postures by employees who use computers can certainly cause musculoskeletal tension. One of the musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) associated with computer use is complaints of non-specific neck pain caused by a non-ergonomic posture of the neck muscles over a long period, which causes muscle tension. This study aims to determine the relationship between working posture and duration of work using a computer on non-specific neck pain complaints among Hasanuddin University Rectorate employees.Method: A cross-sectional research design was carried out on 121 administrative employees aged 22 years who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Assessment of working posture uses the Baseline Risk Identification of Ergonomic Factor (BRIEF) questionnaire, and for non-specific neck pain complaints using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. The Spearman's rho correlation test analyzes the relationship between variables. Results: 49 out of 121 respondents had a high-risk working posture for non-specific neck pain, and 59 out of 121 had a long working duration. Working posture is positively correlated with symptoms of non-specific neck pain (p = 0.001; r = 0.598). In contrast, work duration did not correlate with symptoms of non-specific neck pain (p = 0.063; r = 0.169).Conclusion: High-risk working postures can predict the incidence of non-specific neck pain in office administration employees. This can be a consideration for office leaders to pay attention to the working posture of their employees.Key words: Duration, non-specific neck pain, working posture

Abstract (sommario):
Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease which is transmitted through rat urine and associated with standing water. This study aims to identify the geographical risk factors of leptospirosis in Bantul Regency. This research using cross sectional design with variables of paddy field area, altitude, distance to shoreline, and distance to capital. The unit analysis is sub-district, using data in 2010-2020. Leptospirosis data obtained from Health Office. Data on altitude, distance to capital, and paddy fields area were obtained from the Statistics Agency. Shoreline distance obtained by using GIS processing. Leptospirosis during 2010–2020 were 969 cases. Spearman rank test showed that only distance to capital showed a negative correlation with leptospirosis (p 0.000; r -0.543). Altitude (p 0.153; r -0.05), paddy field area (p 0.338; r 0.248) and distance to shoreline (p 0.143; r 0.208) did not correlate with leptospirosis. This indicate that leptospirosis in Bantul Regency is not a rural disease and not related to paddy fields area. This provides information that prevention of leptospirosis should pay more attention to urban areas. Further research is needed to reveal the species of rat as vector, so that it can be studied in relation to control leptospirosis in Bantul Regency.

Abstract (sommario):
Li-based antiperovskites (LiAP, Li3-x OH x X, X = Cl, Br) are an emergent class of Li-ion conductors that are potential candidates for electrolytes in all-solid-state batteries. As a material class, pLiAP shows vast compositional design freedom; however, the resulting properties are susceptible to synthesis and processing methodologies. For example, proton incorporation and halide mixing stabilize the perovskite cubic phase near room temperature, and halides mixtures near the eutectic points drive the solid-state reaction temperature down, allowing for faster synthesis and processing conditions (< 1 h). The mixed halogen compositions, such as Li2OHCl0.37Br0.63, also show a 30-fold improvement in room temperature ionic conductivity of a single halide structure, 1.5 x 10-6 vs. 4.9 x 10-8 S cm-1 (Li2OHCl). Despite the growing interest in these materials, important questions remain about LiAPs on the structure-property correlation upon halide substitution and the correlations between the OH/halide dynamics and the Li-ion transport. We thus attempted to deconvolute how proton dynamics and halide substitution enhance or impede ionic conduction in pLiAP at compositions near the halide salts' eutectic points. We combined infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) with first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations to deconvolute halide mixing effects from local proton dynamics on Li-ion transport. The NMR results and ab initio molecular dynamics suggest that Li+ transport is more strongly correlated with halide dynamics. While the hydroxide does stabilize the highly conductive cubic structure, it limits correlative ionic transport and thus lowers Li+ conductivity.
