Abstract (sommario):

Introduction. The National Archive of Kalmykia houses over 800 letters of Donduk-Dashi (d. January 21, 1761), the fourth Kalmyk Khan (r.1741–1761), younger son of Prince Chakdorjab and grandson of Khan Ayuka. All the letters attributed to Donduk-Dashi — except for two only — bear impresses of the Chinese seal inherited by him from his father Chakdorjab. One of the exceptions is an impress of another seal registered on only one letter of Donduk-Dashi stored at the National Archive of Kalmykia. So, the study focuses on this very seal of Donduk-Dashi. Goals. The article seeks to introduce sphragistic data from the seal of Kalmyk Khan Donduk-Dashi, draw parallels with a similar seal once owned by the Dorbet landlord Tsenden-Dorji, and to articulate a hypothesis regarding the origins of Donduk-Dashi’s seal. Materials. The study provides insights into the letters of Donduk-Dashi and Tsenden-Dorji housed by the National Archive of Kalmykia. Results. The study reveals that legends of the mentioned seals of Donduk-Dashi and Tsenden-Dorji are written in Tibetan dbu-med cursive script using abbreviations known in Tibetan as skung yig. The Kalmyk origin of the seals is assumpted.

Abstract (sommario):

Diet mengendalikan hipertensi orang Indonesia di Jakarta (dietary approach to stop hypertension for Indonesian at Jakarta, disingkat DASHI-J) dan olahraga jalan cepat dapat mengurangi berat badan dan menurunkan tekanan darah pada pasien prahipertensi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi diet dan olahraga tersebut dengan desain penelitian clinical trial terhadap 100 laki-laki berusia 25 – 55 tahun di PT Krama Yudha Ratu Motor. Responden dialokasikan secara acak dalam 4 kelompok perlakuan meliputi kelompok diet (A), kelompok olahraga jalan cepat (B), kelompok diet dan olahraga jalan cepat (C), dan kelompok kontrol (D). Kelompok A dan C menerima diet 5 hari dalam seminggu selama 8 minggu. Kelompok diet DASHI-J diberikan makan siang dan makan malam. Setelah 2 bulan intervensi, berat badan, indeks massa tubuh, visceral fat, body fat, lingkar perut, tekanan darah sistolik dan diastolik, kolesterol serum dari semua kelompok menurun secara signifikan. Penurunan tertinggi terjadi pada kelompok diet DASHI-J dan olahraga jalan cepat dengan penurunan berat badan 4,18 kg, indeks massa tubuh 1,50 kg/m2, tekanan darah 12,00 mmHg/8,60 mmHg. Diet DASHI-J dan olahraga jalan cepat berperan menurunkan berat badan, indeks massa tubuh, serta tekanan darah sistolik dan diastolik.Dietary approach to stop hypertension for Indonesian at Jakarta (DASHI-J) and brisk walking exercise could reduce body weight and blood pressure of males prehypertension. The objective of the study was to evaluate DASHI-J by an experimental clinical trial conducted with 100 male subjects, aged 25 – 55 years divided randomly into 4 groups: DASHI-J diet group (A), brisk walking exercise group (B), DASHI-J and brisk walking exercise group (C), and control group (D). Group A and C got 5 days a week for 8 weeks diet. DASHI-J group was given lunch and dinner. After 2 months of intervension, the body weight, body mass index, body fat, visceral fat, waist circumference, systole, diastole, cholesterol serum of the groups all reduce significantly. The highest reduction of those intervention achieved by DASHI-J and brisk walking exercise group with body weight decreased 4.18 kg, Body Mass Index (BMI) 1.50 kg/m2, blood pressure 12.00/8.60 mmHg. This implies that DASHI-J and brisk walking exercise play a significant role in reducing body weight, BMI, and both sistolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Abstract (sommario):

Introduction. The article describes the dispatch of Kalmyk Prince Donduk-Dashi to St. Petersburg in the fall of 1737. It also publishes documents on this event housed by the National Archive of the Republic of Kalmykia. Materials. The examined archival materials are mostly clerical papers contained in Collection И-36 ‘Executive Attached to Kalmyk Affairs Commission under Astrakhan Governor. Results. The work introduces complete texts of 10 documents subdivided into decrees, reports, orders, road documents and instructions issued by various authorities and officials. Conclusions. The mentioned collection contains information regarding the backgrounds of Donduk-Dashi’s dispatch, and covers only a part of the journey to St. Petersburg. The described stage lasted from October 6 to November 2, 1737. During this period, Donduk-Dashi and his retinue sailed and drove from Astrakhan to the Novokhoperskaya fortress through such settlements as Cherny Yar, Popovitskaya station, Tsaritsyn, and Lovlinskaya stanitsa. This stage of the delivery of Donduk-Dashi from Astrakhan to St. Petersburg involved over a hundred Russian military and civil officers.

Research objectives: This article is dedicated to preliminarily research and the publication of the decree of the Kalmyk ruler, Donduk-Dashi Khan (r. 1741–1761), assigning to Mustafa Hajji the position of the mufti of the Muslims – people which were dependent on Donduk-Dashi Khan – as well as the position of the qadi and zaisang of the Nogays. Research materials: The decree (dated to 1750) reached us as a copy from the nineteenth century which was kept in the private archives of Abd al-Rahman Umerov – the Tatar religious leader and enlightener who was active at the end of nineteenth and beginning of twentieth century. Cartographic and lexicographic sources were used as well as works on Turkic and Mongolian diplomacy. Results and novelty of the research: The legal status of the representatives of Turkic-Muslim subjects of the Kalmyk rulers and the methods of their administration were not studied sufficiently up to the present. This is a result of the small number of the documentary sources which have been thus far introduced into scholarly circles. The publication of this decree of Donduk-Dashi Khan will fill the gaps in our knowledge of this problem.

Abstract (sommario):

The article examines the work of the famous Russian sculptor and architect Dashi Namdakov. It is suggested that the origins of his talent lie in the depths of Buryat traditional art. The roots of Buryat art date back to the Paleolithic era, which is confirmed by the images of female figurines that were found by A. P. Okladnikov during the excavations of the prehistoric sites of the Baikal region. On the small sculptures made of mammoth bone, the lines of the face are finely worked out and the faces are framed in hair in the form of rays and snakes. Hats and clothes in these figurines are decorated with animal elements, which are considered to denote the native archaic culture which later appeared in a shamanic worldview. The basis of ancient art was syncretic and synthesized religious cult and myths. Later on ancient art, beliefs and ideas about the universe were incorporated in the cult images of the Buryat Mongols and today are communicated in a combination of archaic beliefs and esotery. This peculiarity of Buryat art leaves an original and unique imprint on modern art culture. Visitors of Dashi Namdakov's exhibitions get the feeling of an amazing connection between modernity and mythological antiquity. The article includes a short interview with the master jeweler Dashi Namdakov, in which he speaks about his work, about its origins and his future expectations.

Introduction. The article based on Michael Adas’s analytical category “avoidance protest” presented by Paul W. Werth examines the view of the Kalmyk khan on the activities of the Russians to strengthen positions on the Volga-Caspian frontier, when V. Tatishchev was the head of the Kalmyk Commission and Astrakhan Governor, between 1741 and 1745. Methods and materials. Whereas previous studies considered only the Russian view on the politics toward the region and determined the attitudes of nomadic elites in terms of absolute compliance or violent opposition. However, in practice the relations between Russian authorities and indigenous people’s elite were much more complex.Using as primary sources the letters of Donduk-Dashi to V. Tatishchеv of the period between 1741 and 1745 from the National Archive of the Kalmyk Republic published by prof. D. Suseeva gives us an opportunity to examine the situation from below. Analysis and Results. We argue that although Donduk-Dashi was quite embedded within the Russian system, we cannot claim about his unconditional subordination. First, speculating on general Tarakanov’s misstep, Donduk-Dashi evaded investigations regarding the plans to relocate to the protectionof Persian shah. The second argument was built around his alleged unawareness about theposition of Russian authorities regarding the Kazakh-Kalmyk relations and entreaties to provide with guns as an attempt to divert attention away from current problems on the relations with the Kazakhs. The formal notification of the forthcoming marriage of the Kalmyk nobleman with Kazakh princess and about non-sanctioned contacts with Kazakh Middle zhuz khan demonstrates that nomad’s relations went beyond the line prescribed by the government.

Abstract (sommario):

The article considers the peculiarities of the viewer's perception of a work of fine art with two different approaches to its content. The first approach is based on the viewer's desire to get an answer to the question: «What did the author want to say?». The second approach keeps the focus of the viewer's communication with the work of art on the question: «What is this work about?». In the first case, the artistic idea of the work is comprehended on a personal level, based on the individual author's interpretation of the image. In the second case, a richer assimilation by the viewer of the artistic idea of the work is possible at the personal, actual-historical and universal levels. The specificity of each approach is considered on the example of the sculptural work "Transformation" by Dashi Namdakov, located on the campus of the Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk). Based on the methodology of the modern theory of fine arts by V.I. Zhukovsky and N.P. Koptseva convincingly proves that both approaches require significant efforts from the viewer to prepare for interaction with a work of fine art. Otherwise, the content of the work will be reduced to the viewer's fantasies about the author and his life or about the theme of the work. Only conscious viewing, perceived as a skill that needs to be specially trained and constantly trained, can guarantee a deep meaningful interaction of the viewer with a work of fine art at its different content levels.

Abstract In the 5th and 6th centuries, the belief of the descent of Maitreya was very popular in the Jiangnan area, the Longhua Monastery worshipping the statue of Maitreya as Buddha was flourishing, and the Longhuahui (Maitreya’s preach assembly under the dragon-flower tree, aka Sri Lankan ironwood) was also once prospering. The Maitreya figures of the Southern Dynasties in the Jiangnan area are seen in the cliff niches at Baoxiang Monastery in Xinchang County, Zhejiang and the Mount Qixia Grottoes in Nanjing, Jiangsu; in Sichuan area, the Maitreya figures of the Southern Dynasties are seen on the votive stele made by Monk Xuansong in Maoxian County and the Maitreya statue made by Monk Fahai found at Xi’an Road in Chengdu. Fu Dashi (497–569 CE), a devout lay Buddhist native to Dongyang District of the Southern Dynasties, announced himself as the incarnation of Maitreya to attract believers, and invented the zhuanlun jingzang (rotating Buddhist scripture library).

Abstract (sommario):

Introduction. In 2024, Mongolia shall celebrate the 155th birthday of the Eighth Bogdo Gegeen — the political figure who founded modern Mongolian statehood in the early twentieth century. This charismatic leader was the one who took both secular and religious power over the new Mongolia. The article introduces into scientific circulation a variety of documents from the State Archive of Buryatia that show the actual attitudes of Imperial Russia’s Buddhists — articulated by the Twelfth Pandito Khambo-Lama — to the restoration of Mongolian statehood, and their reverence to the inspirer of the Mongolian Revolution. The examined official correspondence between Khambo Lama of ethnic Buryatia D.-D. Itigelov and Governor-General of Transbaikalia A. I. Kiyashko reveal a number of issues pertaining to the interaction between the spiritual leaders of Mongolia and Russia, show the actual attitude of Russia’s officials toward the Mongol statehood’s restoration, this very attitude to become, in fact, a political guarantee for the very existence of that statehood. Goals. The study attempts an insight into the official 1911–1913 correspondence between Pandito Khambo-Lama and Russian/Mongolian regional officials. To facilitate this, the paper shall analyze the correspondence between Pandito Khambo-Lama and Governor-General of Transbaikalia (December 1911 – February 1912); examine the former’s correspondence with Russian and Mongolian authorities (December 1912 – January 1913); investigate his letters discussing a dispatch of a special delegation comprising Buryat clerics and officials to Urga (April–May 1913). Conclusions. The study attests to Buryat Buddhists in the face of Pandito Khambo-Lama of Eastern Siberia D.-D. Itigelov sincerely welcomed the newly established Mongolian Government headed by the Eighth Bogdo Gegeen. Abstract (sommario):

This article describes the traditional seasoning (choumiryou) used in modern Japanese cuisine. The purpose of this study was to determine the types and ways of making traditional spices in Japanese cuisine, and how to use them to give color and flavor to the dishes. This research is a literature study. The author documents data about shokubunka or Japanese eating culture and traditional spices from various literatures. Through qualitative descriptive methods it is known that modern Japanese cuisine still retains traditional spices, especially miso, shoyu and dashi. The main ingredients of choumiyou are rice, soybeans, and fish. The manufacturing process by means of fermentation that takes a long time for months is the key to the deliciousness of seasoning while adding natural nutrition.

AbstractIt is essential to assess streamflow response to climate and land-use change in catchment basins that serve cities and their surrounding areas. This study used the Distributed Hydrology Soil Vegetation Model (DHSVM) to simulate streamflow under different climate and land-use change scenarios in the Dashi River catchment, China. The most sensitive soil parameters were maximum infiltration, porosity, field capacity, and wilting point, while the most sensitive vegetation parameters were leaf area index (LAI) and vegetation height. The suitability of the DHSVM model was aligned with Nash–Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficients (NSE) greater than 0.41 and 0.84 at daily and monthly scales, respectively. Streamflow increased/decreased with increasing/decreasing precipitation, while it decreased with increasing air temperature. Furthermore, streamflow decreased with the increase in forestland due to higher water consumption, especially during summer. Results from this study could help us to better understand streamflow response to changes in climate and land use.

Hu shi's play of 1919, The Main Event of One's Life (Zhongshen dashi), introduced spoken drama (huaju) to the modern Chinese stage, in imitation of the plays in the Western Ibsenesque tradition. Ever since then, May Fourth male playwrights such as Guo Moruo, Ouyang Yuqian, Chen Dabei, and others, in forming a tradition countering that of the Confucian ruling ideology, have treated women's liberation and equality issues as important political and ideological strategies (Chen 1995, 137–55). Female playwrights such as Bai Wei also depicted loving mothers and courageous daughters waging a fierce struggle against the patriarchal society, symbolized either by domineering and lustful domestic fathers or by new nationalist fathers already corrupted by the emerging revolution. The tradition on the part of both male and female playwrights of exploring woman as a metaphor for national salvation and a given political agenda was most fully articulated in the street theater that grew up during the period of the War of Resistance to Japan.

AbstractBuddhism endorses a set of rules and standards of conduct set out in the religion’s canonical texts. The text of the 1640 Steppe Code, both a peace treaty among the Mongols and an attempt at alliance buildingvis-à-visthe Manchus, also reflects the adaptation of the ethical norms of Buddhism to secular law and political relations. Secular law among the Kalmyks further evolved in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The Toktols issued by Khan Donduk-Dashi in the eighteenth century addressed a wide range of religious and secular elements in Kalmyk life, while also serving to strengthen the moral authority of the Buddhist clergy. Further revisions to Kalmyk law and the position of Buddhism within the secular system were promulgated at the Jinjil assembly in 1822. The Kalmyks’ inclusion of religious provisions in secular law helped to strengthen the connection between Buddhism and Kalmyk society, consolidating the normative role of religion as the basis for secular conduct and action.

Climate changes combined with alteration in landuse, alter the hydrological processes and has increased flood risk in urban area. A better understanding of how the climate alter streamflow in the catchment of city surrounding area would help to reduce urban flood risk. In the present study, we assessed the response of streamflow to climate changes in a mountainous catchment of city surrounding area, Dashi River catchment, China. The Distributed Hydrology-Soil-Vegetation Model (DHSVM) was used to simulate the streamflow in different scenarios of climate and landuse changes. Results showed that: (i) DHSVM showed suitable performance in terms of calibration and validation periods; and (ii) Streamflow increased/decreased with increasing/decreasing precipitation, while decreased with increasing air temperature. And the increases or decreases in precipitation can directly lead to the significant corresponding directional changes in the streamflow, especially in summer season. The results would help to understand streamflow response to changes in climate and landuse, and help to reduce the flood risk in the urban regions.
