In an academic environment predominantly focused on empirical results, theory is a vital – but ojien overlooked – component of successful research. The novel psychological research field of cyberpsychology is missing the theoretical foundations normally available to traditional research areas. To ensure that cyberpsychology becomes a successful and fully functioning research field this needs to be resolved. Cyberpsychology researchers require common theoretical frameworks to answer profound and pressing research questions. To build this framework, they will need to either create new theories or reappropriate traditional theories previously proposed to explain offline behaviour.

In contrast to the helpful sources of guidance and regulations for researchers designing and conducting experiments in cyberpsychology, there is very little guidance available for academics and teachers teaching sensitive issues related to behavior in the online world. There are many potential dangers for psychology students when learning about cyberpsychology, ranging from being exposed to upsetting or illegal behaviour viewed in videos or images, to questioning their own sense of morality and understanding of self, to experiencing harassment or hacking. This paper will highlight our own experiences of teaching cyberpsychology to first and third year psychology students, highlighting some of the potential dangers. We suggest recommendations for academics to ensure that students are protected as faras is possible.

As a new way of implementing human-computer interface, brain-computer interfaces (BCI) dramatically change the user experiences and have broad applications in cyber behavior research. This methodological review attempts to provide an overall picture of the BCI science and its role in cyberpsychology. After an introduction of BCI and the literature search methods used in this review, we offer an overview of terms, history, components, methods and signals used in BCI. Different applications of BCI on both the clinical population and the healthy population are summarized in detail, with a conclusion of the future directions of BCI.

Cyberpsychology is an emerged field in Social Sciences concerned with control and communication of humans and machines focusing on Psychology and Communication Studies. In its generalized form operates as a thematic “umbrella” for all branches of Psychology and Communication employing different methodologies, methods and techniques related to interactive, cognitive and behavioral phenomena that are observed on the internet and social media. As a special science, in the form of Cybernetic Psychology, is focusing on the mechanisms of cognitive control of perception, information and behavior. It targets the programmable simulation of these phenomena; their algorithmic representation and the feedback learning processes that allow adaptation in cyberspace. Issues as integration of everyday life in digital context, management in governance, problem-solving in human-machine interaction, consulting and therapy assistance to practitioners, establish Cyberpsychology and Cybernetic Psychology as areas that contribute and furthering the scientific knowledge of successful or failed human evolutionary processes and strategies. Homo Virtualis as cybernetic organism seeks to maintain and strengthen control over itself, the others and machines, in digital environments, through cognitive, behavioral and affective processes. The paper attempts an introduction to questions regarding the dimensions of the ontological basis of Cybernetic Psychology as foundation of general Cyberpsychology. The special issue “Initiation to Cyber-Psychology: A Students’ Research Anthology” is dedicated to the work of undergraduate students of the Psychology Department of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. Students’ papers were prepared within the “Cyberpsychology” course, taught, for the first time as a compulsory, during the spring semester of the academic year 2020-2021.

Although there are plenty of theories which consider psychological factors of criminal behaviour and almost every criminal act has a digital aspect, criminal profiling is not so popular among forensic psychologists, especially when it comes to cybercrime. Thus, the goal of this paper is to give a brief overview of literature considering psychological factors related to deviant computer and online behaviour. Two basic approaches of criminal profiling, inductive and deductive, will be presented, as well as their advantages, disadvantages, logic they follow and concepts they rely on when analysing digital evidence in order to narrow suspect pools. Concrete models developed under each approach will be briefly portrayed. Moreover, studies from the field of cyberpsychology will be presented and their relationship with profiling will be discussed, particularly with inductive approach, which is original contribution of this paper. At the very end, suggestions for overcoming limitations of previous studies and converging disciplines of criminal profiling and cyberpsychology will be offered.

The work is aimed at examining the use of virtual reality (VR) technologies in clinical psychology in Europe. More than 37 issues of the journal "Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking" with impact factor 2.3 were analyzed, and the articles reflect both cyber and clinical and psychological orientation. The "keyword method" was used to analyze the text, which is understood as a search for typical terms that designate a criterion or replace it. Then the keyword "virtual reality" was associated primarily with the types of disorders in clinical psychology of the classification of group F (according to ICD-10). The topics "virtual reality" and "clinical psychology" are the most frequently discussed topics in the field of the problem area "cyberpsychology". According to the study, the possible applications of virtual reality in the field of clinical psychology are essentially limited to three disorders: anxiety disorders, depression, and autism. According to publications of specialists in general psychology, the term "virtual reality" is not mentioned, which shows that this topic is of secondary importance.

The work focused on the examining the use of virtual reality (VR) technologies in the reduction of depression in Europe. More than 70 issues of the journals “Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking”, “European Psychologist” were analyzed. We used the bibliometric analysis, the "keyword method" to analyze the text, which is understood as a search for typical terms, content analysis of the content of articles that used VR and depression. In the journal "European Psychologist" the term VR has not been mentioned for the last 2 years, which indicates the secondary importance of this issue for general psychology. In cyberpsychology, on the contrary, since 2019 in Europe, the interest of researchers in the use of VR technologies in clinical psychology has increased. By the content of the journal articles. "Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking" VR technologies are used primarily for the correction of anxiety disorders, and secondly, for the correction of depression. These technologies are used in various ways. The first option is to create VR programs with a direct impact on depression reduction. Here, VR is used as a symptom awareness tool, to create an avatar environment for client dialogue in a non- judgmental environment. Research has shown that such VR programs are rated by users as a useful tool for informing and emotionally responding to depressive states. The second option is an indirect effect on reducing the level of depression through the reduction of fears, phobias; increased activation, tone, euphoria in mental states; the development of a positive mood, cognitive motivation; an increase in indicators of field independence (cognitive style). A study based on the methods of psychosemantics is presented, which has demonstrated the effect of a specially created VR program with an avatar on changing the unconscious attitudes of the personality, reducing phobia of darkness. The effectiveness of using of VR technologies in reducing depression is determined by modeling of mental experiences and actions in VR, creating a virtual ontology, the influence of VR on conscious and unconscious attitudes, the possibility of responding to unconscious experiences through the user's identification with an avatar.

Nowadays, psychology has entered a new era of its development. This is directly related to a phenomenon of cyberspace, the space in which the digital dimension of modern human life is manifested. Within the context of the development of new technologies around the world, cyberpsychology has emerged. It aims to understand the psychological processes associated with all aspects and features of human behavior in cyberspace. Cyberpsychology is faced with many challenges, and the impact of social media on mental health and psychological well-being is among them. The article attempts to investigate the influence of social networks on psychological functioning of an individual. While some researchers emphasize the positive impact of social networks on psychological well-being, others are focused on the dangers of cyberspace. Recent study suggests that long-term use of social networking sites may be associated with symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, loneliness, and low self-esteem. As far as social networks are a relatively new phenomenon, the potential link between their use and mental health and psychological well-being has not yet been properly explored, and the scientific community has not yet been able to fully interpret the results and reach a definite conclusion. The relationship between the use of social networks and psychological functioning is not that simple and unambiguous; it depends on many factors, such as the way to use it, communication patterns, emotional state, comorbidities, self-awareness, motivation, values, attitudes, and preferences. Today, we cannot avoid cyberspace, thus, the health and well-being of both the individual and society depend on our ability to interact effectively within it.

The article deals with the aspects of social and psychological adaptation in elderly and senile age and analyses the conditions for successful aging. The authors assume that people in elderly age have significant individual characteristics and, as a consequence, research results are often contradictory. It is shown that the socio-psychological adaptation in elderly patients is determined by individual psychological qualities, by specificity of their identity, by strategies of their adaptation to old age. This may be the strategy of the «closed loop» type, that is maintenance of self as an individual, or an alternative strategy, maintaining self as a personality. It was noted that adaptation to old age was flying differently in women and men, which may be due to gender differences in lifestyle, the strongest identification of some men with occupational roles, and of women with homework and family obligations. It is shown that successful aging contributes to the formation of androgynous type of gender identity, which provides flexibility in respond to different situations.

This article looks at the reality that exists on Youtube regarding the amount of trance content being watched. This attracts the attention of the author the main factor why netizens make content trance to watch. A large number of Youtube content enthusiasts make writers think that trance content is used by Youtubers to seek profits with so many viewers. Some of the author's findings on several Youtube channels present trance shows and have hundreds of thousands to millions of subscribers. This phenomenon shows that Indonesian netizens like a lot of trance shows. The research method used by researchers is qualitative through a netnography approach. In addition, the reason the author chose the netnography approach is that it is to study cybernetics space from textual information to study culture and netizens. Based on the author's findings, there are 3 characteristics of trance content on Youtube channels that are widely watched, namely: criminality, treatment of patients, and culture. Meanwhile, netizens' responses were mixed regarding trance content on Youtube, such as: not believing, providing support, praying for psychics, happiness, and bullying. Pada Jurnal Psikologi Edisi Juni 2022 ini, terdapat 15 naskah dari berbagai latar belakang tema tulisan dan juga asal penulis. Secara umum, terdapat dua perspektif besar dalam edisi Juni 2022 ini, yaitu naskah-naskah yang menggambarkan semangat positif dalam upaya melewati masa-masa sulit, termasuk tema-tema positif dalam berbagai latar psikologi sosial, cyberpsychology, psikologi pendidikan, dan juga psikologi industri dan organisasi. Sementara itu, sebagian kecil naskah mengusung tema yang berbeda dengan memotret beberapa permasalahan riil dalam masyarakat terutama di setting sosial, cyber, dan industri. Tidak bisa dipungkiri bahwa setelah dua setengah tahun pandemi COVID-19 berjalan ada banyak perubahan dalam berbagai sendi kehidupan, termasuk tema dan topik riset-riset di ilmu sosial seperti psikologi (Ward dkk., 2022). Namun jika diperhatikan, belakangan ini tema-tema pandemi tidak sebanyak ketika pandemi masih belum lama terjadi. Para peneliti telah mampu beranjak ke depan dan melihat permasalahan dan berbagai fenomena secara lebih global, termasuk dalam tema-tema riset yang dilakukan.

Recent years have seen an impressive increase in web-based research, of which we review and discuss two main types. First, researchers can create online versions of traditional questionnaires. Using the internet in this way usually does not compromise the psychometric properties of such measures, and participants are typically not less representative of the general population than those of traditional studies. Technical guidelines are provided to set up such studies, and thorny issues such as participants’ anonymity are discussed. We will also discuss issues regarding the assessment of minors and the repeated assessment of participants to assess developmental changes via the web. Second, the internet has changed the way people interact with each other. The study of the psychosocial consequences of this development is called cyberpsychology. We review emerging findings from this young discipline, with a focus on developmentally-relevant implications such as the use of the internet by adolescents to disclose personal information.

Cyberpsychology analyzed, since the beginning of the 90s, human behaviour in the digital environment and emphasized a few defining effects of this behaviour, such as the online anonymity effect, related to the online uninhibited effect or the online escalation effect. (Aiken 2019, 13) Analyzed from this perspective, online narcissism, exacerbated by the intense social media usage during the Covid-19 pandemic, is a behaviour amplified in the digital environment, compared to its dimensions in the real life. The specialists underline that individuals who use social media excessively develop narcissistic tendencies, and the young manifest oppositional behaviours, aggressive and anxious tendencies, being the most vulnerable category of the online public. The article analyses the relationship between online publicity and the amplification of narcissistic behaviours in young users, using as a case study the campaign #TheSelfieTalk, launched by the brand DOVE in the spring of 2021, as a communication programme meant to fight the young girls’ vulnerability in social media.

Abilities an interdisciplinary methodology, in light of the joint effort between intellectual mechanical technology and kid brain research, for oneself supporting plan of intellectual and conduct abilities in engineered intellectual specialists, including robots, that is animated by thoughts and formative systems found in kids. Cyberpsychology examines every one of the ones mental peculiarities which are identified with age and pursuits to examinations the strategies of substitute welcomed on through the exchange among fellow and the fresh out of the box new media. This paper discusses how artificial intelligence and HCI applications are handling psychological issues that affect health in an efficient manner. The paper explains how AI and human consciousness are interlinked and different factors play a very important role to provide the support for behavioral issues and diseases. The contribution of Artificial Intelligence in transforming HCI is discussed through case studies, applications and systems in the paper.

The paper relates to the branch of cyberpsychology associated with risk factors during immersion in a virtual environment. Specialists in the development and operation of virtual reality systems know that immersion into this environment may be accompanied by symptoms similar to the “motion sickness” of transport vehicle passengers (ships, aircraft, cars). In the paper, these conditions are referred to as a cybersickness (or, cyberdisease). The three leading theories, proposed as an explanation of the causes of cybersickness, are discussed: the theory of sensory conflict, the theory of postural instability (the inability to maintain equilibrium), and the evolutionary (aka toxin) theory. A frequent occurrence of symptoms of cybersickness is a conflict between visual signals and signals from the vestibular system. It is shown that such conflicts can be stimulated in the framework of a specially organized experiment (e.g., the illusion of out-of-body experience) using virtual reality systems. When competing signals (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, etc.) reach the brain, the data gained with the use of virtual reality systems give a chance to hypothetically determine the localization of the specific area in the brain that ensures the integration of multisensory stimuli.

In modern researches which could be attributed to psychology of Internet or, put another way, to cyberpsychology, works on game and communicative behavior are massively presented. The article argues that no less attention of psychologists should be paid to features of cognitive activity in Internet. It is noted that indirect Internet search through keywords and Boolean operators, as well as reading of found online materials (articles, textbooks and encyclopedias, thematic discussions and posts, news in electronic MEDIA, etc.) alongside with distant learning, inquiry, etc. qualitatively differ from traditional methods of performing cognitive activity, in particular by virtue of a special organizational structure of cyberspace-combining various elements through hyperlinks. The saturation of traditional information materials of such links leads to the formation of hypertext structures. Hypertext operation (and hypermedia) is the most characteristic feature of the implementation of the cognitive activity in the modern epoch. The article discusses the psychological specificity of hypertext structures in the process of reading and understanding in works of artistic culture in everyday life and in training activities. It is noted that hypertext document used for training should avoid unmotivated links and introduce elements of standardization.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a source of stress and have important mental health implications for all persons but may have unique implications for men. In addition to the risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19, the rising COVID-19 death toll, ongoing economic uncertainty, loneliness from social distancing, and other changes to our lifestyles make up the perfect recipe for a decline in mental health. In June 2020, men reported slightly lower rates of anxiety than women, but had higher rates of depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. As of September 2020, men sought mental health care at a higher rate than women for family and relationships, with year-over-year visits up 5.5 times and total virtual mental health care visits monthly growth in 2020 was up 79% since January. Because men are not a homogeneous group, it is important to implement strategies for groups of men that may have particularly unique needs. In this paper, we discuss considerations for intervening in men’s mental health during and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including current technology-based cyberpsychology options.

Cyberculture merupakan budaya baru yang dipengaruhi dengan adanya penemuan komputer dan internet. Budaya baru ini memiliki perubahan yang luas dalam segala aspek tak terkecuali dalam bidang perpustakaan. Cyberculture sendiri meliputi berbagai bidang keilmuan, diantaranya: ilmu komputer, sosiologi, sastra dan bahasa, multimedia, filosofi, ekonomi, feminisme, politik, cyberpsychology, dan ilmu budaya. Secara konvensional peran pustakawan masih berkutat dalam bidang pengelolaan dan pelayanan pemustaka. Peran lain yang dimainkan oleh seorang pustakawan adalah membantu pemustaka, menjaga perpustakaan nampak atraktif dan rapi; mempromosikan perpustakaan dalam komunitas; terlibat dalam kegiatan komunitas untuk menyediakan informasi dan kegiatan: mempertahankan standar pengembangan koleksi berdasarkan permintaan dan kebutuhan pemustaka. Pada era cyberculture maka peran pustakawan mengalami transformasi yaitu: peran dalam membantu pemustaka mengalami perluasan menjadi manajer informasi dan user asisten; peran dalam menjaga perpustakaan nampak atraktif dan rapi mengalami pergeseran tidak hanya menjaga perpustakaan dalam bentuk fisik tetapi juga dalam bentuk digital yaitu menjadi web desainer dan web programmer; pustakawan dapat juga menjadi sales marketing dan public relation (PR) dalam menjalankan peran mempromosikan perpustakaan dalam komunitas; terlibat dalam kegiatan komunitas untuk menyediakan informasi dan kegiatan, menjadikan seorang pustakawan berperan sebagai seorang content creator dan influencer.

In the internet age, a considerable amount of information about risk events and objects is shared in cyberspace. Since online and offline spaces are not discrete, there is a cross-effect in which perceptual or attitudinal factors in cyberspace influence offline actions, while offline attitudes affect online actions. However, few studies have examined this cross-effect. In the present study, the intention to engage in online or offline behaviors opposing nuclear energy was the dependent variable. The independent variables included risk perception factors (i.e., perceived risk, perceived benefit, trust, knowledge, and stigma) in the risk perception paradigm, and cyber factors (i.e., self-efficacy in cyberspace, involvement on the internet, trust in cyberspace, conformity to online opinion, and belief in online rumors) in the cyberpsychology paradigm. Our findings offer evidence for the cross-effect of online or offline predictors on online/offline behaviors opposing nuclear energy. All the variables in the cyberspace paradigm influenced offline opposition, while those in the risk perception paradigm affected online opposition. Moreover, the five online-related risk perception variables played a significant role in moderating the relationships of predictors in the risk perception paradigm with offline opposition.

Celem artykułu było zaprezentowanie wybranych wniosków i zarysu badań dotyczących relacji między mediami społecznościowymi, a adolescentami i młodymi dorosłymi. W pracy skupiono się na trzech aspektach leżących w zainteresowaniach m.in. cyberpsychologii, tj. kwestia różnic płciowych i wieku w sposobie korzystania z mediów społecznościowych, ich wpływu na kształtowanie się tożsamości oraz relacji między użytkownikiem, mediami społecznościowymi, a samooceną. Przytoczone badania pokazują dynamikę zmian w sposobie korzystania z mediów społecznościowych w perspektywie płci, gdzie w początkach kształtowania się internetu to chłopcy korzystali z niego więcej w celu komunikowania się z innymi, a współcześnie relacja ta wygląda inaczej. Badania dotyczące tożsamości skupiają się na możliwości badania jej kształtowania i uwzględnienia pewnych specyficznych jej aspektów. Wnioski z badań dotyczących samooceny są niekonkluzywne i w głównej mierze korelacyjne, przez to konieczne jest dalsze prowadzenie badań w tym obszarze.
