Abstract (sommario):

O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a relação entre variáveis sociodemográficas e o capital cultural das famílias nucleares brasileiras com as despesas relacionadas ao consumo de bens e serviços culturais. A base de dados utilizada foi a Pesquisa de Orçamentos Familiares – período de 2008/2009, realizada pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), sendo a amostra de 27.479 domicílios selecionados com base na estrutura familiar nuclear com presença de filhos em idade escolar. Para análise dos dados, utilizaram-se análise de regressão múltipla e coeficiente de correlação. Os resultados evidenciaram relação positiva entre a renda per capita familiar, o número de pessoas na família, o capital cultural e a idade do cônjuge com os gastos com bens e serviços culturais. De acordo com o modelo proposto, a renda per capita e o capital cultural foram as principais variáveis explicativas dos gastos com bens e serviços culturais das famílias.

Abstract (sommario):

Bourdieu elabora (2003), por meio de uma sofisticada análise sociológica, uma crítica feroz ao modelo escolar tradicional. Através da naturalização de uma situação essencialmente histórica e contingente, o percurso educativo, no interior das escolas, transforma-se num legitimador de estruturas sociais opressoras e desiguais. Através da noção de Capital Cultural, pode revelar as raízes das problemáticas noções de “fracasso” e “sucesso” escolar. No interior dessa argumentação, o presente trabalho procura articular, sob viés psicanalítico, a exibição da construção silenciosa da subjetividade humana através do contexto intersubjetivo da cultura. Para tal, será focalizada a noção de Super-eu que Freud demonstra ser o herdeiro de uma introjeção da exterioridade configurando-se como polo de opressão interior. Procura-se, assim, articular às análises de Bourdieu sobre o capital cultural as formulações freudianas sobre a cultura capital e aprofundar, desse modo, algumas constatações de Bourdieu através da psicanálise de Freud.

Abstract Various media allow people to build transnational networks, learn about the world and meet people from other cultures. In other words, media may allow one to cultivate cosmopolitan capital, defined here as a distinct form of embodied cultural capital. However, far from everyone is identifying this potential. Analyses of a national survey and in-depth interviews, conducted in Sweden, disclose a tendency among those in possession of cultural capital to recognise and exploit cosmopolitan capital in their media practices. Those who are dispossessed of cultural capital are significantly less liable to approach media in this way. Relying on various media practices in order to reshape one’s cultural capital exemplifies what Bourdieu called a reconversion strategy. As social fields undergo globalisation, media offer opportunities for the privileged to remain privileged – to change in order to conserve.

Bourdieu's theory of cultural reproduction has been interpreted in various ways, and several authors have criticised an overly narrow interpretation of cultural capital as simply consisting of ‘beaux arts’ participation. For researchers, this raises the challenge of developing a broader interpretation of cultural capital which is still specific enough to be operationalised. This paper discusses the ways in which parents may transmit educational advantage to their children through cultural rather than economic means, and the forms of knowledge and skill which may be considered as ‘cultural capital’. An operationalisation of cultural knowledge is discussed, and empirical evidence is presented on differences in levels of cultural knowledge between the children of graduates and non-graduates.

Abstract (sommario):

Este artigo tem o objetivo de promover uma breve reflexão sobre os argumentos expostos por Bourdieu sobre o capital cultural e sua contribuição no processo educativo onde ele explica a diferença entre educação formal escolar e a educação familiar e como este segundo processo pode contribuir com a educação formal. Com esse objetivo, foi produzida, no decurso deste artigo, uma reflexão a fim de avaliar o posicionamento da família na educação dos filhos perante os desafios impostos pelo capitalismo; e, nas últimas décadas, pelo neoliberalismo. Foram efetuadas pesquisas para fins de complementação dos argumentos usados por Bourdieu em sua obra. A escolha do tema justifica-se em função das inúmeras explicações e argumentações sobre as consequências do que vem ocorrendo na educação no Brasil, frente as imposições do sistema financeiro. A nosso ver, há um posicionamento governamental no sentido de adotar dispositivos legais para atender as demandas impostas pelo referido sistema, o que trouxe consequências cujo viés mais penoso é não admitir que a educação seja a mola propulsora do desenvolvimento de uma nação.

Este artigo tem o objetivo de registrar os resultados obtidos na pesquisa de Dissertação de Mestrado do Programa de Educação: História, Política, Sociedade, intitulada “Capital cultural e letramento – participantes do Programa Fábricas de Cultura em São Paulo” (MONTEIRO, p. 12-122, 2017). A referida pesquisa foi construída a partir de um referencial teórico pautado nas ideias de Pierre de Bourdieu, Bernard Lahire e na Teoria do Letramento, e teve como proposta compreender o Projeto Espetáculo da Fábrica de Cultura do Jardim São Luís, por um lado, como atividade de contraturno escolar e, por outro, como um espaço promotor de capital cultural. Ao desenvolver o conceito de capital cultural e sua incorporação pelas atividades do Projeto analisou-se, também, a contribuição do aumento do volume desse capital para o letramento dos participantes. A pesquisa estabeleceu categorias de análise para compreender a incorporação do capital cultural como forma de desenvolver habilidades e competências definidas como importantes ao letramento. Pretende-se, assim, expandir as conclusões que possibilitaram afirmar a hipótese levantada durante a referida dissertação: o Projeto Espetáculo, do Programa Fábricas de Cultura, da Secretaria da Cultura do Governo do Estado de São Paulo, pode contribuir à superação dos déficits originários do capital cultural de jovens estudantes e, como consequência, promover melhoras no grau de letramento dos participantes.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to discuss the concept of cultural psychological capital, its impact on motivational cultural intelligence (CQ), the influence of motivational cultural intelligence on metacognitive awareness, and the moderating role of perspective taking on the relationship between motivational cultural intelligence and metacognition. Design/methodology/approach – Collected data from international management program alumni to test the hypotheses. Findings – The results show that cultural psychological capital has a positive relationship with motivational cultural intelligence, which in turn relates to metacognitive awareness, and perspective taking does not moderate the relationship between motivational cultural intelligence and metacognition. Research limitations/implications – The data were collected from a single source. The study supports broaden-and-build theory (Fredrickson, 2001) by demonstrating that cultural psychological capital has an important association with motivational cultural intelligence. Practical implications – Cultural psychological capital can be improved. Therefore, organizations that desire to increase the motivation of employees may consider improving the cultural psychological capital of employees. Learning is an important outcome of motivational cultural intelligence, and it is an asset for today's organizations. Originality/value – The study takes a positive perspective for cross-cultural experiences and identifies cultural psychological capital as an important resource for expatriates. Metacognitive awareness, as an outcome, provides support that cross-cultural experience results in higher learning for individuals who are motivated.

Abstract (sommario):

This article focuses on problems with correlating a value system to human activity. The author approaches analyzing this issue in terms of cultural capital. Subject to examination is the key component of social order, which can be described as “developing relations of the highest and lowest order”, as orientation towards oneself of one’s community in a social group or network. This work attempts to define what social capital consists of in terms of privileged and legitimized cultural practices. Presumably a culture of common values bears self-worth if it can be materialized within the boundaries of various types of relations. This allows for predicting trends of change in interpersonal relationships, by means of generalizing the results and conducting comparative analysis. Highlighted is the fact that such analysis makes sense if it were to be conducted in terms of cultural capital. As such, a special role is assigned to cultural competence. The ability and/or skills in practically using cultural achievements under certain conditions, with the goal of converting them into other types of capital later down the line, are especially valuable. Also noted is the fact that an understanding of cultural capital, as well as its transformations, is vital for analyzing actual practices which reflect the processes of the “achievements, approval or rejection, reproduction or transformation” dynamic. The author confirms the conclusion which had already been drawn by foreign scientists who are well-known in this field of knowledge, namely that there exists a certain pattern: either society brings forth specific channels for the flow of class cultures with their impenetrable boundaries, their peculiar and somewhat autonomous standards of purpose (of taste), or a dilution of class distinctions occurs. This inevitably has an effect on the decline of the role of cultural capital, and therefore on belonging to the elite. A hypothesis is brought forth about the need to define a person’s place within social networks, their affiliation with those who are typically considered to be members of “exclusive cultures”. Otherwise a connection to such networks implies the “lowest level of cultural competence” and an unfavorable place in the social hierarchy.

Abstract (sommario):

In 2006, the Dublin-based theatre company Pan Pan went to China to produce a Mandarin version of J.M. Synge’s canonical Irish play The Playboy of the Western World. Director Gavin Quinn chose to set the adaptation in a hairdresser/ massage parlour/brothel, on the outskirts of Beijing. He originally wanted the protagonist to hail from Xin-Jiang, China’s troubled Sinomuslim province. In interview, he said he was advised against this for fear of Chinese state censorship. However, the Chinese translators, Yue Sun and Zhaohui Wang, suggest that the decision not to represent a Muslim protagonist had to do with ethnic sensitivities. In order to analyse this conflict, this article draws on translation sociology after Bourdieu, clarifying the functioning of the habitus, and formulating a global field of cultural production. It argues that analysis of intercultural processes focused on cultural capital can provide materially engaged insights into the power relations informing given intercultural situations.
