Abstract (sommario):

The weapon focus effect is defined as eyewitnesses focus more on weapons than other details(e.g., perpetrator) of the crime scene which cause memory bias. The present study investigated how the presence of a weapon affects the visual attention and memory of the eyewitness. Participants were randomized within two groups: the weapon focus effect condition(WC) and the novelty condition(NC). The participants' visual attention pattern(dwell time) was measured while participants were observing the interaction between the two individuals(clerk and customer) at the mock crime slide show. At the end of the experiment, the participants were asked about what they saw on the slide show. As a result, it was confirmed that the weapon condition showed a different attention pattern from those in the non-weapon condition. Overall, both groups were found to spend more time on target objects(knife/cashier's check), but WC participants spent longer time on clerks when weapons were presented than NC participants. On the other hand, in both groups, there was no difference in memory. This study provided evidence for the visual attention patterns of eyewitnesses at simulated crime scenes with weapons.

Little has been published about the health of individuals living in Central Thailand during the Iron Age (ca. 2500 – 1500 BP). The site of Phromthin Thai provides an opportunity to examine indicators of systemic stress and signs of compromised health during this time period using human skeletal remains. Twenty-six Iron Age skeletons from the site were examined for indicators of systemic stress or compromised health in the form of porotic hyperostosis, cribra orbitalia, linear enamel hypoplasia, dental caries, and trauma. These results were compared with data from the Ban Pong Manao site in Central Thailand and from two sites in different parts of Northeast Thailand to determine whether frequencies of these indicators varied significantly at Phromthin Tai. We found that the skeletons from Phromthin Tai exhibited generally low frequencies of most of these skeletal indicators, and that the prevalence of most of these indicators were similar to that reported for Ban Pong Manao in Central Thailand, and Ban Chiang and Noen U-Loke in Northeast Thailand. The main difference was a surprisingly low frequency of dental caries compared to the other three sites, which may relate to some unknown difference in the diet. งานการศึกษาวิจัยเกี่ยวกับสุขภาพอนามัยของผู้คนสมัยเหล็ก (ประมาณ ๑,๕๐๐ – ๒,๕๐๐ ปีมาแล้ว) ในภาคกลางที่มีการตีพิมพ์นับว่ายังมีไม่มาก แหล่งโบราณคดีพรหมทินใต้ได้เปิดโอกาสให้พวกเราศึกษาตรวจสอบเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับสุขอนามัยโดยพิจารณาจากตัวบ่งชี้สุขภาพต่าง ๆ ซึ่งปรากฎหรือทิ้งร่องรอยไว้บนกระดูกมนุษย์ที่ถูกฝังไว้ในช่วงสมัยเหล็ก ตัวอย่างกระดูกที่ศึกษามาจากผู้ตายจำนวน ๒๖ คน ตัวบ่งชี้สุขภาพอนามัยที่เราศึกษาได้แก่ร่องรอยความพรุนบนกะโหลกศีรษะ (porotic hyperostosis) ร่องรอยความพรุนบนกระดูกบนเพดานเบ้าตา (cribra orbitalia) ร่องรอยความผิดปกติบนเคลือบฟัน (linear enamel hypoplasia) โรคฟันผุ (dental caries) และร่องรอยบาดแผล (trauma) เรานำผลการศึกษาไปเปรียบเทียบกับข้อมูลและผลการศึกษาสุขอนามัยของผู้คนสมัยเหล็กจากแหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านโป่งมะนาวในภาคกลางและแหล่งโบราณคดีอีก ๒ แหล่ง (แหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านเชียงและแหล่งโบราณคดีเนินอุโลก) ในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือที่มีการศึกษามาแล้ว จากผลการศึกษา เราพบว่าโครงกระดูกของผู้คนสมัยที่แหล่งโบราณคดีพรหมทินใต้โดยทั่วไปมีร่องรอยตัวบ่งชี้สุขอนามัยค่อนข้างต่ำ ซึ่งคล้ายหรือใกล้เคียงกับสุขอนามัยของผู้คนสมัยเดียวกันที่แหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านโป่งมะนาวในภาคกลางและแหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านเชียงและแหล่งโบราณคดีเนินอุโลกในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ สิ่งที่แตกต่างกันอย่างน่าประหลาดก็คือผู้คนที่แหล่งโบราณคดีพรหมทินใต้มีร่องรอยโรคฟันผุน้อยหรือต่ำกว่าผู้คนจากแหล่งโบราณคดี ๓ แหล่งที่นำมาเปรียบเทียบ

Introducción. Debido a los escasos estudios que hay respecto al funcionamiento cognitivo de pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica (ERC), especialmente al comparar a los trasplantados con los pacientes que reciben tratamiento de hemodiálisis, se realizó el presente trabajo. Objetivo. Comparar el funcionamiento cognitivo en personas con ERC en tratamiento de hemodiálisis, con postrasplante de riñón y con personas sanas. Método. Se utilizaron pruebas neuropsicológicas estandarizadas (MoCa Test, Figura de Rey y el Token Test) para la valoración de las funciones cognitivas. Resultados. Se observó un mejor rendimiento cognitivo en la prueba de cribaje y en la memoria visual en el grupo control y en el de trasplantados respecto al de hemodiálisis. Discusión. Se concluye que las personas con enfermedad renal crónica con tratamiento de trasplante mejoran el rendimiento cognitivo de forma significativa al transcurrir un periodo de entre seis y doce meses posteriores a la intervención.

The paper presents new possibilities of such technologies as photogrammetry and virtual reality for application in criminal proceedings. The concept of building “on the fly” three-dimensional digital copy of the incident, directly at the scene of the incident is presented. The concept is tested by applying specific technological approaches to create a digital copy of the incident with the server processing the initial information from a set of photos of the scene from several angles, the architecture of the hardware-software system is developed and the functionality of the mobile solution and virtual reality application is described. It is shown how a digital copy of the incident can be used, in particular, in a criminal case by the subjects of proof – both the subjects of the prosecution and the defense. To date, no precedents have yet been found for the use of virtual reality technology in court proceedings in this aspect, and the authors propose a gradual introduction of the proposed approaches into practice.

Abstract The present study aims to explore the status of filled pauses as pragmatic markers by taking into account their accompanying visual and gestural behavior. This aspect has not yet been widely explored, and the current study breaks new ground by demonstrating that the analysis of gaze and gesture can shed substantial light on the pragmatic functions of filled pauses and other pausing phenomena. Filled pauses (FPs) serve several pragmatic functions in speech, mainly planning but also turn-holding and emphasis, and their use is also highly determined by register and setting. This research explores the different pragmatic functions of FPs by analyzing their distribution in two different communication settings (conversation vs presentation setting), combining a quantitative and a qualitative methodology, following Kosmala & Crible’s (2021) study on the same data. Particular attention was paid to the co-occurring gestural activity of uh/ums and gaze behavior. Analyses show that the pragmatic functions of FPs are also embodied in kinetic activities which differ according to the setting: more pragmatic and referential ones were found during FPs in conversation than in the presentation setting, as well as more eye-contact, which reflects their potential communicative role during interactional sequences.

Introducción: Los pacientes oncológicos infantiles presentan diversas deficiencias en sus funciones y estructuras corporales derivados de los tumores mismos o de los distintos tratamientos empleados, ya sea cirugía, quimioterapia, radioterapia o la suma de ellos. Estas deficiencias generan gran discapacidad en todas las áreas del funcionamiento. Objetivo: Des-cribir el perfil clínico y funcional de niños que ingresan a un programa de rehabilitación oncológica. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio observacional, restrospectivo y descriptivo. Se revisaron 109 fichas clínicas de pacientes ingresados al programa de rehabilitación oncológica de Fundación Nuestros Hijos entre los años 2014 y 2017, que cumplieron criterios de ingreso. Se obtuvieron los datos de la evaluación clínica realizada por médico fisiatra y pruebas funcionales al ingreso, incluyendo Timed Up and Go Test, Pediatric Balance Scale y test de Marcha de 6 min. Resultados: El promedio de edad fue de 8,7 ± 3,4 años. Los diagnósticos más frecuentes fueron tumores de sistema nervioso central (50,4%), leucemias y linfomas (24,4%). Un 53,2% de los pacientes se encontraba en tratamiento activo al momento del ingreso. El déficit motor fue el más frecuente (79,8%). Dentro de este grupo, 19 niños (17,4%) presentaron hemiparesia y 18 niños (16,5%) tetraparesia. Del total, 44% reportó presencia de fatiga, 28,4% presentó trastorno de la deglución, 34,9% trastorno visual y un 56,9% compromiso cognitivo. Conclusiones: Los niños que ingresan a rehabilitación oncológica presentan múltiples defi-ciencias en diversas áreas de su funcionamiento, tanto en etapas tempranas como tardías de su tratamiento. El compromiso, motor, deglutorio, visual y cognitivo son las deficiencias más frecuentes de encontrar, sobre todo en pacientes con tumores de SNC.

Recently, there has been a growing demand for Rattan baby cribs in the international market, primarily due to aesthetic appeal of handwoven rattan. Given that these cribs are intended for infants, safety is a paramount concern alongside aesthetics. Previous research identified a potential risk of limb injury in infants aged 5-12 months due to inconsistent rattan gap decorations exceeding 60 mm in crib width. However, achieving standard gap dimensions in conventional handcrafted production methods has been challenging. This study aims to investigate safety, aesthetics, and manufacturing efficiency in Rattan baby crib production through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving research designers, the Research and Development (R&D) Department, the production department, the marketing division, and expert guest designers. Rattan with a diameter of 22 mm and a consistent gap width below 60 mm, is utilized. The crib’s structural elements will apply simple, robust, straight rattan weaving. Visual design recommendation encompasses natural luxury, playfulness, and safety. Various rattan types that balance aesthetics and strength, including thinner-diameter rattan with intricate weaving as non-structural aesthetic elements and side-by-side dual system, enhance beauty while meeting strength and material efficiency requirements. The development of Rattan baby cribs, focusing on child safety and aesthetics, is highly demand due to increasing market demand in the United States, Australia, and Europe and potential opportunities in the local market.

The aim of the study is to identify the linguistic and stylistic features of the speech portrait of a blogger leading his blog in the genre of “true crime story”, which is dedicated to the narration of real crimes. The scientific novelty of the study consists in the fact that the linguistic features of this genre are considered in the work for the first time and the specifics of the narrator’s speech portrait in the genre of “true crime story” manifested in the electronic environment is revealed. As a result of the study, it has been found that the speech portrait of a blogger-narrator of “true crime story” can be characterised as follows: a restrained, concise manner of narration, the unity of the audio-visual means used to enhance the impact on the listener, the representation of the blogger’s values to a wide audience, a detailed description of events, the use of links to information sources, the documentary nature of the presentation of the material, the abundance of legal terminology in speech, the predominance of bookish vocabulary, the use of epithets with negative stylistic colouring, rhetorical questions, parentheticals and quotations, etc.

RESUMO Este artigo analisa a relação entre criminalidade e arte contemporânea a partir do realismo traumático mobilizado na obra do artista visual guatemalteco Aníbal López durante os anos 2000. Para tanto, considera-se a ideia-limite do “crime como obra de arte” como um dos modos de elaboração poética do trauma na cultura contemporânea. A hipótese de fundo consiste em ressaltar a dimensão institucional dessa elaboração, ali incluída a crítica aos sistemas de produção e circulação da arte. Como se verá, parte da potência discursiva das obras de Aníbal López advém do choque deliberado entre dois contextos díspares: de um lado, o ambiente traumático de violência, criminalidade e pobreza da Guatemala dos anos 1990 e 2000; de outro, o contexto institucional do mundo da arte contemporânea globalizada, com seus ritos sofisticados, sua fauna exótica e culta, seus lugares próprios de exposição e legitimação.

Este é um ensaio visual que tem como tema a IV Romaria pela Ecologia Integral a Brumadinho, uma ação contramonumental que se faz presente anualmente na vida pública do município desde 25 janeiro de 2020, quando se completou o primeiro ano do rompimento do complexo de barragens da Vale S.A na mina Córrego do Feijão, que matou 272 pessoas. Ele foi realizado em 2023, sendo composto por 8 imagens que demonstram como o rito se constrói como contraponto ao design proposto pela mineradora, responsável pela devastação da paisagem, para reconstrução da memória. A romaria evidencia a capacidade das populações locais atingidas de responderem, a seu próprio modo, às práticas da empresa criminosa e do Estado na construção de uma “memória oficial”, chamando atenção para o caráter destrutivo dessas megaempresas e buscando a reparação pelos danos e violações de direitos sofridos pelas vítimas das tragédias.

Introduction. When examining the osteological collection, which came from the excavations of the Natukhaevskoye 5 mediaeval burial ground in the Krasnodar Region, the skeleton of a young man was found from a ground burial of the 14th century. The purpose of the study was to consider, within the framework of differential diagnosis, the possible cause of pathological changes found on this skeleton. Materials and methods. Identification and description of the state of preservation of the skeletal remains were carried out in accordance with the standards for adult and juvenile osteology. Pathologically altered bone fragments were studied using microfocus radiography. Results. The preservation of the bones is fragmentary; there are large and small fragments of the cranial vault and different parts of the skeleton of male, 16-20 years old. Indicators of physiological stress (multiple enamel hypoplasia, Cribra orbitalia) and consequences of systemic pathology were identified. Visual and radiographic examination of the cranial vault revealed through and non-through defects up to 5 mm in diameter with both rounded and uneven edges. Most lytic damages were observed on the frontal bone and on a fragment of the parietal. The radiograph shows that the formation of foci of destruction is associated with the development of a network of small and large blood vessels. In the diaphysis of large tubular bones, hypertrophied development of the spongy substance is observed. Discussion. The most common paleo-oncological diagnoses are metastatic carcinoma and multiple myeloma, in this case unlikely due to the young age of the individual and the morphological pattern of the defect margins. In paleopathology, there are known cases of lymphocytic leukemia with a peak in children aged 2–5 years. Conclusion. Multiple lesions of the skull bones testify in favor of the diagnosis of metastatic cancer in a young man buried in the Natukhaevskoye-5 burial ground. Although the poor preservation of the remains prevents a more accurate diagnosis, there is evidence to suggest a hematogenous cause of oncology.

Introducción: La agudeza visual requiere ser evaluada en el ámbito clínico cotidiano para detectar deficiencias visuales. Objetivo: Proporcionar las bases y fundamentos más actualizados para la medición de la agudeza visual. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda en la literatura de referencia y en los articulos actualizados de las bases de datos en línea PubMed y Cochrane. Resultados: La visión es uno de los sentidos más importantes para el ser humano, por lo tanto debe ser evaluada periódicamente en todo paciente en diversas consultas desde la médica, estomatológica, nutricional hasta la optométrica u oftalmológica. En un escenario clínico tradicional, medimos sólo una de las funciones visuales: la resolución central a altos contrastes (agudeza visual). El hecho de que este simple test arroje excelentes resultados en la detección de deficiencias visuales, es una ventaja sorprendente, a pesar de dejar de lado las demás funciones mencionadas. Por lo tanto esta prueba, es un cribaje aceptable en la práctica clínica diaria y debemos conocer sus bases y actualizaciones.

Transbasal meningiomas 1 are a rare group of tumors that grow intracranially, invade the skull base, and propagate extracranially; they are usually located at the level of the olfactory cribra and sphenoid wing. 1-4 Transbasal tuberculum sellae meningiomas are a subset of these tumors, which extend into the suprasellar and sphenoid regions. The traditional transcranial approach for some transbasal meningiomas has recently evolved toward the transnasal endoscopic approach, which allows the removal of both the intranasal and intracranial components, reducing the manipulation of the optic nerves and neurovascular structures. Nevertheless, specific anatomical criteria must be present; the knowledge of specific anatomy 5,6 and the surgeon's experience are fundamental for reaching the most favorable outcome. 7-11 In this video, we present the case of a 50-year-old woman with a history of progressive visual impairment and scotoma in the left inferotemporal quadrant. Radiological examinations suggested a transbasal tuberculum meningioma that extended into the suprasellar region, sphenoid sinus, and optic canals. An endoscopic transtuberculum approach with intraoperative visual-evoked potentials 12 was performed, allowing an early devascularization with the preservation of the superior hypophyseal arteries and the removal of the component extending in the medial portion of both optic canals. The postoperative MRI documented a gross total resection without complications. The patient reported an immediate improvement of the visual symptoms. Histopathology documented a meningioma (CNS World Health Organization grade 1) with bone invasion. The patient consented to the procedure and to the publication of her image; Institutional Review Board approval was not required for this single case report.

Introduction : Les nanotechnologies sont de nos jours une science qui prend une grande importance en raison de leur simplicité, de leur nature écologique et économique. L’objectif de ce travail consistait à évaluer l’effet anti-inflammatoire des nanoparticules obtenues par biosynthèse in situ à partir de la poudre des feuilles de Psychotria calceata. Matériel et méthodes : La synthèse des nanomatériaux s’est faite à partir d’un infusé de la poudre des feuilles de Psychotria calceata auquel a été ajouté une solution de nitrate d’argent. Les nanoparticules obtenues ont été caractérisées après changement de coloration visuel, au spectrophotomètre d’absorption UV-Vis entre 380 et 550nm. Cette caractérisation consistait à observer la formation des nanoparticules à partir de l'apparition de la résonance plasmonique de surface et d’apprécier leur stabilité. La toxicité orale aiguë des nanoparticules a été réalisée sur des rats Wistar selon le protocole décrit par la ligne directrice 423 (2001) de l'Organisation de Coopération et de Développement économique (OCDE). Un modèle d'œdème plantaire de la patte de rat induit par la carraghénine a été utilisé pour évaluer l’activité anti-inflammatoire de ces nanoparticules et des coupes histologiques ont été réalisées sur le foie, la rate, le cœur et les reins. Résultats et Discussion : Le criblage phytochimique de l'extrait aqueux de Psychotria calceata a révélé la présence d'alcaloïdes, phénols, polyphénols, tanins, saponines, flavonoïdes, triterpènes et stéroïdes. Le pic de résonance plasmonique de surface dans le spectre UV-Vis montre des spectres d'absorption compris entre 380 et 500 nm caractéristique de la présence des particules de taille nanométrique. Leur profil toxicologique a montré une DL50 > 2000mg/kg. A la dose de 400µg, les nanoparticules ont montré une diminution significative à p<0,01, trois heures après l'administration des nanoparticules. Conclusion : Les nanoparticules d'argent peuvent agir comme agents réducteurs/inhibiteurs de la libération des médiateurs inflammatoires aigus. Par conséquent, ce travail a clairement démontré que les nanoparticules d'argent de Psychotria calceata pourraient être considérées comme une source potentielle de médicaments anti-inflammatoires.

Публикуются предварительные результаты антропологического исследования костных останков, полученных при раскопках средневековых памятников на территории Армении. Исследование осуществлялось путем визуального осмотра скелетов, их измерения, описания. В основу работы положены классические краниометрические, краниоскопические, одонтологические, остеологические и палеопатологические методы исследования. Степень развития мышечного рельефа указывает на значительные физические нагрузки в процессе трудовой деятельности. Наличие затылочных структур связано с подъемом и перемещением тяжелых грузов. Выявлены следы патологических процессов на скелетах, и реконструирована их этиология. В структуре палеопатологического профиля групп преобладают такие стрессовые маркеры, как сribra orbitalia, эмалевая гипоплазия, аномалии и травмы. Прижизненные травмы связаны с конфликтными ситуациями на бытовой почве. В результате проведенной работы удалось установить важные особенности жизнедеятельности групп, определить половозрастные показатели, антропогенетические характеристики и особенности распространения заболеваний. The article presents preliminary results of an anthropological research of human bone remains, obtained during excavations of medieval monuments on the territory of Armenia. The research methodology involved visual examination of skeletons, measurements, descriptions. The work is based on classical craniometric, cranioscopic, odontological, osteological and paleopathological research methods. The degree of the muscular relief development points to a considerable physical activity as-sociated with labour. The applied methodology revealed traces of pathological processes, whose etiology was further reconstructed. Structural changes appearing in human bones during physical activity people were investigated. The occurrence of superstructures in the occipital bone has been attributed to physical activity and habitual motion such as lifting and transporting heavy. The structure of the paleopathological profile of the groups is dominated by such stress markers as cribra orbitalia, enamel hypoplasia, anomalies, and injuries. Intravital injuries are associated with conflict situations on a domestic basis. As a result of the conducted work it was possible to establish the important features of life-activities of the studied samples, to define sex-age indicators, anthropogenetic characteristics and specificity of spreading of diseases.
