Abstract (sommario):
The research study aims to advance the scientific hypothesis that the creative process is not a two-stage but a three-stage phenomenon, as is noted by theorists. The issue is new, complex and not yet explored. For this reason, it is not possible to define all its artistic and aesthetic features, functions and theoretical canons within a small article. It is also worth noting that the universal theories put forward are not just literature, but all types and forms of creativity. This stage of the creative process is not the choice of space, time or person, and is unique to all periods of literary history. At the same time, the study focuses on the practical process of this stage of the creative process, in part on the reflection on the sources of world literature, including Russian and Uzbek literature. In a word, it focuses on the artistic process and the new third phase. The theoretical criteria for this stage, known as the decompression process, are analyzed with examples from works by world and Uzbek writers.

Abstract (sommario):
The subject of this research is the structure of the literary work. The goal consists in the establishment of correlation between the parts of the literary work, expressed in the research of S. I. Sukhikh “The Theoretical Poetics of A. A. Potebnja”. The author meticulously examines such aspects of the theory of literary work of A. A. Potebnja as the interrelation between the external form, internal form, artistic image, and content of the literary work, as well as outlines the structure of the literary work. The article describes the parts of the literary work (external form, internal form, artistic image, content). The article offers the patter of the literary work, distinguishing the parts and interrelation between them. The author formulates the definitions of external form, internal form, artistic image, and content of the literary work; reveals the characteristics and distinctive features of each part of the literary work. This led to the formation of representation of the literary work as a structure, where each of the parts expresses its own meaning, and serves as a means of creating the meaning for the other part. The result this research consists in the creation of the pattern of literary work that gives an idea on the structure of the literary work. The acquired materials can be used in studying the general concepts of the theory of literature: the form, content, artistic image, definition of artistic merit of the literary work. The offered pattern of the literary work cab be also applied to the analysis of the literary work. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the formation of representation of the literary work as a structure, where each part expresses its own meaning and serves as a means of creating meaning for the other part, as well as in creation of the pattern that conveys this idea.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT Artworks and cultural productions affect us in various degrees. In rare occasions, their encounter can trigger a life-changing event. These rare and unexpected individual moments can be shared as narratives, some of which are found in literature. Among these literary accounts, many attribute to texts the prompting of personal events and such narratives have been studied by literary scholars interested in reader–response theory. Less attention has been paid to accounts of such reactions to other types of media, which also require additional theoretical input to study them. To examine these specific events in narratives, we consider them as “response events” and analyse their characteristics through research and artistic means. Adding to the existing contributions in literary theory, we use a methodology originating from the art field, that is research-creation. In this article, we start by presenting our research-creation approach and the interdisciplinary tool that we developed. We then present a brief overview of the results from the literary corpus analysis and of the artistic experimentations that they triggered. We also describe how our research on the response event has led Damien Beyrouthy to think this concept through his artistic practice, from which other concepts emerged.

Abstract (sommario):
With the development of transmedia research, many writers begin to pay attention to the comparison and transformation between literature and other artistic media, and practice it in literary creation. Contemporary English novelist A.S. Byatt is one of the practitioners of transmedia literary creation. Through the use of “ekphrasis”, she skillfully and naturally integrates the art work into the literary creation, making the text have a visual effect. This paper takes A.S. Byatt’s three short stories Christ in the House of Martha and Mary, Art Work and Rose-Colored Teacup as examples to explore the ekphrarstic re-creation of paintings, sculptures and pottery in her works, and then analyzes the deep connotation brought by the ekphrasis between different artistic media to literary texts.

Abstract (sommario):
“Ambiguity” was first proposed by W.Empson in his work Seven types of ambiguity (1930). According to him, ambiguity "is an undefined meaning, an intention to express many kinds of things that allow for many interpretations". Ambiguity can be classified into two forms: ambiguously definite polysemy and ambiguously indefinite polysemy. Ambiguity is a characteristic aspect of artistic thinking. it dominates and leaves its mark on the artistic creation process. Ambiguity is an important quality in literary life: it opens the endless field of meaning, making literature the key to helping people open the door to dominate all aspects of human life; It is the aspect that makes the aesthetics of literature; Ambiguity promotes the imagination, cocreation of the reader; it is a measure of the artist's talent in creating a breakthrough of words and a sense of artistic innovation.

Abstract (sommario):
In the article the author analyzes the creative manner of G. Adamovich in his reception of new literary works. Adamovich’s literary criticism can be defi ned as a specifi c genre of “literary conversation”. It has syncretic character, including elements of genres related to criticism, such as essays, memoirs, philosophical refl ection and proper conversations with the reader. When analyzing individual authors, works or topics, Adamovich avoids methodical reasoning and does not adhere to any defi nite theoretical doctrine. His “method” is a kind of existential “meeting” with the author he is considering, which is deliberately formulated not in direct and rigid characteristics, but in a “roundabout” way through personal impression and some detail of the artistic world.

Lambie, Eileen. "A phenomenological explication of the artistic creative experience of a painter, a writer and a playwright". Thesis, Rhodes University, 1988. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1004605.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The aim of the thesis was to explore two focus questions using the phenomenological approach. Firstly, what it meant to be an artist for three particular artists; a painter, a writer and a playwright. Secondly, what a general explicitation (after Van Kaam, 1958) of the three subjects' artistic creative experience and working processes revealed in essence. The taped data of the three artists were reduced and explored through a number of phenomenological strategies. This led to the formulation of four essential descriptions for each artist, which were based structurally on Van den Berg's experiential categories in A Different Existence. Thus, the essential descriptions reflect each artist's relationship with his/her world, body, fellow people and time. The final step was the achievement of a general extended description. The major conclusion arising from the phenomenological explication is that art affords a way through which artists are able to live an authentic existence. That is, the body and world of the artist are in harmony and the artist's art roots him in the past, is manifest in the present and indicates the future direction of his work. Another conclusion is that the artist is Janus-faced and this enables him/her to balance subjectivity and objectivity in the Lebenswelt and to communicate what he/she sees to others in a healthy way through art. The artist's relationship with world, body, fellow people and with time, is postulated as being qualitatively richer than that of the nonartist. The two focus questions were successfully answered through the research explication and were validated by two independent judges. The viability of the phenomenological approach in the field of artistic creativity was therefore demonstrated. Suggestions for future research were made, one of which was that more phenomenological research aimed at eliciting specific information on the creation of art works might render more information on the artistic creative process.

Cseh, Genevieve. "Flow in visual creativity". Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 2014. http://digitool.abdn.ac.uk:80/webclient/DeliveryManager?pid=225306.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Although flow theory (Csikszentmihalyi, 1975; being 'in the zone') arose from early observations of artists, experimental research of creative flow is lacking, particularly in the visual arts. Assumptions are made about the universality of flow in all domains; however creativity is a uniquely complex domain which may have different antecedents, experiences, and consequences related to flow. This thesis focuses on potential mechanisms and effects of feedback/goal ambiguity and the sense of control that are thought essential to flow but which have unclear relationships to creativity. Using an experimental simulation of the visual creative process, the creative mental synthesis task (Finke & Slayton, 1988), four experiments were conducted. The role of perceptual feedback (sketching) to potentially disambiguate limited mental imagery feedback, or to offload cognitive load, was explored. Also inspected were the impacts of expectation-outcome incongruence, perceived task difficulty, and access to conscious choice vs. constraint. Results show sketching significantly increased flow by decreasing perceived task difficulty, though this effect was independent of cognitive load. Factors potentially influencing perceived difficulty were explored in relation to feedback ambiguity variables such as expectation-outcome discrepancies and mental imagery vividness. Choice did not significantly affect flow, but did decrease expectation-outcome discrepancy, suggesting total autonomy and control are not essential for flow development, but choice may affect how creative ideas are selected. These experimental results were compared with fine artist and commercial designer interviews, suggesting flow in visual creativity may require adaptability, tolerance of uncertainty, and interaction with perceptual feedback to resolve ambiguity. Flow was, as theorised, strongly related to affect improvement and self-rated creativity; however no direct links to higher externally-rated or objective creativity measures were found. Although flow does not directly enhance creativity, it and factors related to it (e.g., sketching, affect) may have an indirect motivating influence which could enhance mastery over time.

Thomas, Christopher. "The place of art in Spinoza's naturalist philosophy". Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 2017. http://digitool.abdn.ac.uk:80/webclient/DeliveryManager?pid=237177.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The lack of discussion on art in Spinoza's works has led to the belief that a) the principles of his philosophy are actively hostile to art, and b) that his philosophy has nothing to offer regarding art's theorisation. This thesis examines the few places that Spinoza refers to art in order to discern three things: I) what Spinoza's thoughts on art are; II) how his views on art fit into the wider themes of his philosophy; and III) how his general philosophical position as well as his specific ideas on art might contribute to new models of theorising art. In Chapter One I develop Spinoza's relational and naturalistic concept of individuation, therein providing the theoretical ground for the subsequent chapters which, following Spinoza, treat the work of art as a complex body that conforms to the rules of individuation as they are developed across the Ethics. Chapter Two locates Spinoza's views on the creative act from what he notes of architecture, painting, and other 'things of this kind' in IIIP2Schol. Here I argue that Spinoza radically naturalises the creative act, deriving it from the complex causal activity of extended substance itself. To this extent art is given in IIIP2Schol as an expression of the complexity of Nature. Chapter Three turns to Spinoza's brief words on art and culture in IVP45Schol to ascertain his position on artistic experience. Here I argue that according to IVP45Schol art's necessity for the wise man lies in its ability to foster affective complexity. Chapter Four turns to that other peculiarly human artefact, Holy Scripture, to identify how 'nonnatural' objects come to be differentiated from merely 'natural' objects in Spinoza's strong naturalism. Finally I end with an appendix that brings Spinozistic principles to bear on a consideration of a poem by Futurist poet Mina Loy.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThis chapter examines the rise of literary advice in Anglo-American periodical culture from 1884 to 1895. Capitalizing on a moment when fiction became both more self-consciously artistic and more potentially lucrative, literary advice of this era addressed the full range of literary practice and the attendant practical activities that made it possible. The chapter resituates the landmark “Art of Fiction” debate (1884)—an event crucially sponsored by the magazines—as the opening of an era of practical discussion that was soon after taken up in trade journals devoted specifically to authorship. The practical advice dispensed by these journals—including tools, tricks, tips, and gossip—focuses on the form of the short story, creating a loop with a form that was itself a magazine staple. This interactive looping is considered in the conclusion, where the chapter examines a systematic course in literary art offered by Atalanta, a late-Victorian “Girl’s Magazine.”

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThis article focuses on memoirs that grapple with how to resolve tensions between ‘work,’ labor performed for a wage or salary, and ‘the Work,’ a creative pursuit performed for reasons beyond material necessity. Dorothea Brande’s Becoming a Writer (1934) and Wake up and Live! (1936), like many self-help publications of their kind, position writing and other creative pursuits as acts of living that stand in opposition to the necessity of making a living. Recently, however, a number of publications on “the writing life” have begun to complicate this opposition. When considering works ranging from Annie Dillard’s 1989 The Writing Life to Deborah Levy’s Things I Don’t Want to Know (2013) and The Cost of Living (2018) and Alexander Chee’s How to Write and Autobiographical Novel (2018), it seems that the dichotomy of work vs. writing life is not simply undergoing demystification but also reconceptualization. These contemporary literary-advice memoirs thematize dissolutions between work, personal, and writing lives, thereby also disrupting generic patterns in issuing literary advice. They push the literary advice genre away from technicalities and visions of artistic autonomy and toward accounts of creative production that is subject to the demands placed on creative workers throughout the white-collar labor market of late capitalism.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThis chapter explores the concepts of discursive and non-discursive ethos, as well as the notion of authorial stance (posture) as defined by Jerôme Meizoz (2007; 2011) in order to analyze the figure of the “ready-made-writer” in French manuals and writing guides at the beginning of the twenty-first century. “Authorial stance,” “ethos,” and “persona” are all terms that take stock of the way in which authors declare themselves writers in the literary field. For Meizoz, posture begins at the moment of publication, that is, at the moment of the official recognition of the author. A close reading of some recent French writing manuals, however, reveals the outline of an implicit portrait of the author budding into a legitimate artist and credible writer, and contains indications on how to carve out a space of creation for oneself. The identities presented by the manuals are shaped by literary models and invested by a collective imaginary. They conform to culturally accepted archetypes, because “becoming a writer, and doing the work of a writer are part of the same phantasm” (Ducas 2002). Learning the craft of writing thus also entails acquiring a corporeal dramaturgy or an “auctorial scenography” (Diaz 2009) which is a prerequisite for creation. This can be achieved by going through various authorial stances, from “visionary” to “apprentice” and “manager of one’s own small enterprise.”

Abstract (sommario):
Chapter 1 examines Tunisian intellectual Maḥmūd al-Masʿadī’s 1945 mythical novella Mawlid al-Nisyān [the Genesis of Forgetfulness] about a physician on a spiritual quest for a drug to defeat time. Maḥmūd al-Masʿadī (1911–2004) was a prolific writer, educator, editor, trade unionist, and government official. The novella integrates Sufi philosophy, existentialism, and humanism in its exploration of the relationship between the human and divine. The chapter frames these concerns within the novella’s Qurʾanic intertextuality and al-Masʿadī’s broader philosophical writings on Islam and literature. Across his critical and literary oeuvre, al-Masʿadī explores literature as a creative praxis that speaks to broader existential and humanist concerns. Crowned the founder of “Muslim Existentialism,” he theorizes Islam as a philosophy of existence intimately connected to the artistic process. The chapter reads his novella Mawlid al-Nisyān as a Sufi spiritual journey that explores creation as an ethical imperative of human existence.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Antonin Artaud (1896–1948) was a man of many parts: his creative intellect travelled across both generic and conceptual boundaries and he was poet, playwright, essayist, novelist, actor, producer, theoretician of the theatre, and artist. He has also been feted as a schizophrenic, druguser, and internee, and posthumously further roles were thrust upon him as the following generation saw him as cultural iconoclast or as an example of suffering, failure, and the descent of a great literary intellect into madness. But all agree that his energies were channelled towards the exploration and perhaps even the creation of the self within the artistic act.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper discusses the absolute freedom of literary (artistic) creation. The difference between general and literary freedom is emphasized. In the second part, different boundaries of literary creation in anti-democratic and democratic systems are pointed out. In anti-democratic systems, it is public authority that sets boundaries of artistic freedom, and in democratic systems it is the readers, critics, market, cultural institutions. It is concluded that criticism, condemnation (rejection by individuals and some institutions) of a literary content in democracy does not mean endangering the freedom of literary creation due to the fact that there are many publishers and cultural institutions. The claim of absolute freedom of creativity is also disputed.

Abstract (sommario):
A prominent figure in the field of satirical graphics in the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Macarenco, throughout his artistic career, conceived with great skill and dedication book illustrations for literary works signed by Aureliu Busuioc, Evgeniy Kopylov, Iosif Gherasimov, Alla Grekul, posters and aesthetically expressive and semantically valuable caricatures. Prodigious, talented, persevering and devoted to his profession, the protagonist is one of the established artists who, through his vocation and talent, marked an entire era in the satirical art of the Republic. Working successfully, especially in the genres of satirical-humorous graphics, the graphic designer gave birth to works that were frequently published in important periodicals such as the satire and humor magazine Chipăruş, the magazine Femeia Moldovei, the newspaper Tinerimea Moldovei and others. The study highlights both the thematic aspects of the artist’s creation and the determined, systematized, mirrored artistic options of the protagonist. Having examined the artist’s works, the author pays increased attention to problems of compositional image, the particularities of plastic representation through shape, line, tone of human characters, psychological states of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic characters. At the same time, the analytical approach is supported by highlighting the role of color in the process of amplifying expressions and messages generated by satirical works created by the graphic artist.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. Both literary translation and creation use language to shape artistic images, and artistic images are the crystallization of artistic thinking. Translation is not only cross-lingual transfer, but also conversion of thought. In novel translation, the translator's image thinking plays a vital role because of the characteristics of literary works. By the translation of Charles Frazier’s novel Nightwoods as an example, this paper illustrates how to make full use of four activities of imagery thinking (perception, association and imagination, emotion and harmony) during the translation process. By using of imagery thinking, the translation shows the charm and beauty of original works, and achieves images reproduction of novel character.

Abstract (sommario):
The destiny and literary creation of Ion Creangă crystallized into an unprecedented phenomenon in our culture, always inciting artists and literati to the most diverse interpretations and visions. But a re-interpretation of the “spectacle of the world”, created by the great storyteller from Humulești, requires great aesthetic and artistic efforts. To argue these ideas, we will refer to the non-fiction film “Ion Creangă” directed by Vlad Druc, based on a script signed by Anatol Codru, cameraman - Ion Bolboceanu. In search of the most appropriate audiovisual equivalents for the rendering/interpretation through another language, the cinematographic one, of the artistic phenomenon Ion Creangă, the film director Vlad Druc turned to some iconographic materials (photographs, manuscripts), places filmed “live”, but also to some works from the paintings of the Yugoslav naivists, which restore the values of authentic life, but also of the imaginary. In the director V. Druc’s conception, this art has some qualities in common with the world perceived by the great storyteller finding suggestive ambiences in the context of his cinematic approach. Finally, the director Vlad Druc managed to consolidate these heterogeneous materials into a unique whole through audiovisual language, launching a cinematic product that resists the erosion of time.

Abstract (sommario):
The ways in which literary creations are capitalized in artistic television programs (programsshows) compared to adaptations in the art of cinema provide us with a favorable framework for more accurate identification of the necessary distinctions between these two audiovisual fields. But the theory of cinema screening cannot be used as such in the making of films / television shows. Using the figure of the narrator, the small screen widened the possibilities of audiovisual capitalization of literary species. The narrator’s mission does not lie in scholarly commentary; his colloquial discourse, interwoven, not infrequently, with different testimonies-declarations of faith of the author, must become the binder of the entire television construction, to evade descriptive patterns. The purpose of the comment is to enhance the image through the informative virtues of the word, but, at the same time, not to have a tautological character. Unfortunately, in the conditions of the unprecedented proliferation of television entertainment products, the quality literary page is making its way to the small and big screen harder and harder.

The article is devoted to the verification of research criteria in the analysis of the leading literary direction of the second half of the twentieth century. The author considers an example of a research misapprehension that occurs both from a distorted interpretation of philosophical foundations (conservatism, as well as traditionalism and soil science), and an underestimation of the poetics of literature, i.e. those artistic means that participate in the creation of a work. As a result, such misconceptions lead to discreditation of the Russian classics.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The subject of this research is the social roles and stereotypes of femininity in the almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu». The aim of the study is to conduct a systematic analysis of gender stereotypes of femininity in the literary almanac. The article employs the following methods: theoretical – for studying gender theory, stereotyping, and their application in the analysis of the content of the periodical; systemic-structural analysis – for conducting a systematic analysis of the social roles of femininity in the almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu»; structural-typological – for studying the content and structure of the literary almanac; descriptive method - for interpreting women’s roles and stereotypes. Main findings. The role of gender stereotypes in representing women in the media texts of contemporary Ukrainian writers in the pages of the periodical almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu» has been elucidated. A systematic analysis of feminine social roles, including the beautiful woman, the businesswoman, the happy woman, the sex symbol, and the wife-mother, is presented. The social roles and stereotypes of femininity in the literary almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu» are interpreted according to the classification of G. Kovalova and V. Danilyan. Conclusions. In the almanac «Kurier Kryvbasu», entrenched perceptions regarding women’s model appearance, their frivolity and accessibility, professional inferiority, sexual objectification, competent housekeeping, maternal duties, and the pursuit of illusory «female happiness» in the form of marriage, family, and children are used. However, a trend of feminist rise is observed, where the pages of the magazine describe women’s career successes, self-actualization, participation in military actions, etc. Significance. The analysis of gender stereotypes, both femininity and masculinity, in Ukrainian literary-artistic periodicals is important for the development of the contemporary media sphere, as such research will encourage editorial teams to direct media content towards gender balance and gender equality. Key words: gender stereotypes, social role, femininity, journal, literary magazine, media text.

Abstract (sommario):
The radical aesthetic of the historical avant-garde movements has often been explained as a reaction to the catastrophic experience of the First World War and a denouncement of the bourgeoisie’s responsibility for its horrors. This article explores a blind spot in these familiar interpretations of the international avant-garde. Not only the violence of the World War but also the experience of a worldwide deadly pandemic, the Spanish flu, have moulded the literary and artistic production of the 1920s. In this paper, I explore this hypothesis through the example of Mário de Andrade’s famous book of poetry Pauliceia desvairada (1922), which I reinterpret in the light of historical studies on the Spanish flu in São Paulo. An in-depth examination of all parts of this important early opus of the Brazilian Modernism shows that Mário de Andrade’s poetic images of urban coexistence simultaneously aim at a radical renewal of language and at a melancholic coming to terms with a traumatic pandemic past.
