Abstract (sommario):
Career counseling services are provided in high schools but the effectiveness of these services is still a topic of debate. The purpose of this paper is to examine the organization and effectiveness of career counseling for Vietnamese high school students. The challenges and obstacles in offering successful career counseling to Vietnamese high school students will be discussed in this paper in addition to the current state of the country's career counseling programmes at present and possible solutions. 360 students participated in a study that the authors conducted on career counselling in 15 high schools situated in the province of Binh Dinh, Vietnam. According to the findings, there is room for improvement in raising awareness of career counseling's significance and effectiveness in influencing choices about careers even though many students show some interest in it and consider its activities well-defined. Parents generally rate the importance of career counseling as high but there is a lack of interest in it. It is also crucial to consider the unique needs and challenges of each student especially those from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds and to use technology to provide personalized career counseling services.

Providing free civic counseling by attorney-at-law or advocate vs. lawyer-client privilege and avoiding conflict of interest The Act on Free Legal Aid, Free Civic Counselling and Legal Education, amended in 2018, provides for a new form of assis-tance for citizens – free civic counseling. The article is an attempt to answer three research questions. Firstly, what is the con-nection between legal advice and civic counseling, and whether legal advice is a part of civic counseling? Secondly, is the person providing free civic counseling (adviser) obliged to keep in secret all information that he or she has learned over the course of his or her duties? Thirdly, is that possible that an adviser who is at the same time an attorney-at-law violates lawyer-client privilege or puts himself or herself into a conflict of interest, because of performing duties resulting from the Act on Free Legal Aid, Free Civic Counselling and Legal Education and the Ordinance of the Minister of Justice?

Literature reviews have concluded that People of Color are underrepresented in psychological literature; however, the fields of counseling and counseling psychology have taken a clear affirmative stance with respect to human diversity. This study sought to evaluate the representation of People of Color in four key journals across the 2000–2019 timespan: The Counseling Psychologist, Journal of Counseling Psychology, Journal of Counseling & Development, and Counselling Psychology Quarterly. Journal articles were coded for variables including focus on racial/ethnic minority (REM) groups and article content topics. Results indicated that 26.3% of the articles were coded as REM-focused (3.8% focused on African Americans, 4.1% on Asian Americans, 3.1% on Latinxs, and 0.7% on Native Americans). The need for additional research is especially notable in the case of Latinxs (the least represented REM group relative to United States Census estimates) and for several multicultural topics that remain underrepresented in the literature.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction Adequate sexual and reproductive health information is vital to women of reproductive age (WRA) 15 to 49 years, for making informed choices on their reproductive health including family planning (FP). However, many women who interact with the health system continue to miss out this vital service. The study aimed to identify the extent of provision of FP counselling at service delivery points and associated behavioral factors among women of reproductive age in two districts of Arusha region. It also determined the association between receipt of FP counselling and contraceptive usage. Methods Data were drawn from a cross-sectional survey of 5,208 WRA residing in two districts of Arusha region in Tanzania; conducted between January and May 2018. Multistage sampling technique was employed to select the WRA for the face-to-face interviews. FP counseling was defined as receipt of FP information by a woman during any visit at the health facility for antenatal care (ANC), or for post-natal care (PNC). Analyses on receipt of FP counseling were done on 3,116 WRA, aged 16–44 years who were in contact with health facilities in the past two years. A modified Poisson regression model was used to determine the Prevalence Ratio (PR) as a measure of association between receipt of any FP counseling and current use of modern contraception, controlling for potential confounders. Results Among the women that visited the health facility for any health-related visit in the past two years, 1,256 (40%) reported that they received FP counselling. Among the women who had had births in the last 30 months; 1,389 and 1,409 women had contact with the service delivery points for ANC and PNC visits respectively. Of these 31% and 26% had a missed FP counseling at ANC and PNC visit respectively. Women who were not formally employed were more likely to receive FP counselling during facility visit than others. WRA who received any FP counseling at PNC were significantly more likely to report current use of modern contraception than those who did not (adjusted PR [adj. PR] = 1.28; 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 1.09, 1.49). Conclusion Overall, only 40% women reported that they received any form of FP counseling when they interfaced with the healthcare system in the past two years. Informally employed women were more likely to receive FP counselling, and women who received FP counselling during PNC visits were significantly more likely to use contraceptive in comparison to the women who did not receive FP counselling. This presents a missed opportunity for prevention of unintended pregnancies and suggests a need for further integration of FP counseling into the ANC and PNC visits.

Abstract (sommario):
Counseling psychology and school counseling have become quite removed from each other despite sharing a common history, having similar values, and the fact that many training programs for the two disciplines coexist in the same university department or college. This article argues for a stronger integration of the two specialties to advance their contributions to pre–K-12 education and the nation’s youth. Counseling psychology, with its strong commitment to career psychology, counselor training and supervision, multiculturalism, prevention, and scientific inquiry, is well positioned among psychological specialties to exert major influence in the educational enterprise. Models of school counselor training and service delivery have been recently developed and offer numerous opportunities for collaboration between counseling psychologists and school counselors. A collaborative model that encompasses training curricula, research, service, and professional organization dimensions of the specialties is presented. Challenges that may impede a stronger partnership between counseling psychology and school counseling, as well as suggestions for addressing them, are also discussed.

In conclusion, the author argues that there is a common denominator, counseling, that could serve as a uniting factor.

Abstract (sommario):
Guidance and counseling programs have been implemented in Kenyan secondary schools to help students improve their personal, social, and academic skills. The success of these programs, however, has been questioned due to a paucity of studies attempting to clarify this idea, a problem that this study discussed. The aim of this study was to look at the current state and challenges of guidance and counseling. The study's aim was to ascertain the types of services available for implementing guidance and counseling programs, as well as the most common cases of indiscipline among secondary school students. Noise making, theft, property damage, and truancy were found to be the most common forms of indiscipline in schools, according to the report. According to the findings, the schools under investigation have a long way to go in terms of maintaining disciplinary management by supervision and counseling. According to the report, schools can first invite parents, churches, other supporters, and the surrounding community to endorse guidance and counseling programs for students' social adjustment. Secondly, the Ministry of Education should reinforce guidance and counselling units in the implementation of the program in schools by requiring all teacher counsellors who do not have basic guidance and counselling training to attend mandatory in-service training. Finally, the Ministry of Education should make peer counseling training more accessible so that advice and support can be provided.

Abstract (sommario):
We investigated how follow-up counselling had increased linkage to HIV care in a trial of referral to care and follow-up counseling, compared to referral to care only, for participants diagnosed as HIV-positive through home-based HIV counseling and testing. We carried out a cross-sectional qualitative study. Using random stratified sampling, we selected 43 trial participants (26 [60%] in the intervention arm). Sample stratification was by sex, distance to an ART facility, linkage, and nonlinkage to HIV care. Twenty-six in-depth interviews were conducted with participants in the intervention arm: 17 people who had linked to HIV care and 9 who had not linked after 6 months of follow-up. Home-based follow-up counseling helped to overcome worries resulting from an HIV-positive test result. In addition, the counseling offered an opportunity to address questions on HIV treatment side effects, share experiences of intimate partner violence or threats, and general problems linking to care. The counselling encouraged early linkage to HIV care and use of biomedical medicines, discouraging alternative medicine usage. Home-based follow-up counseling also helped to promote HIV sero-status disclosure, facilitating linkage to, retention in and adherence to HIV care and treatment. This study successfully demonstrated that home-based follow-up counselling increased linkage to care through encouragement to seek care, provision of accurate information about HIV care services and supporting the person living with HIV to disclose and manage stigma.

Abstract (sommario):
Southeast Asia has a high prevalence of mental health problems and a low desire to seek professional help. Low treatment rates in LMICs are also reflected in the lack of readily available treatments geared toward students. In developing countries such as Thailand, academic advisors in higher education play another extra role in providing appropriate mental health counseling beyond teaching, researching, and delivering academic advising to their students. This quasi-experimental research aimed to study counseling’s competency of academic advisors in higher education and develop counseling’s competency of academic advisors in higher education. The sample groups used in this study were academic advisors who worked in a Thai university. There were two data collection stages. In stage 1, 250 samples were selected using a multi-stage random sampling technique for examining counseling competency. In stage 2, 60 samples used in the first stage having counseling’s competency score rating from low to moderate were equally divided into two groups (control and intervention). The results in the first stage showed that the total mean score of counseling competency was moderate. In the second stage, the hypothesis-tested result also showed significant differences in counseling competency outcomes in the intervention and control groups. These findings highlight intervention; the Brief Counseling Competency Training Program (BCCTP) could be helpful for reskilling and upskilling academic advisors’ counseling competency, especially attitude dimension, and implicate set friendly services, a sustainable academic advisor network to support and strengthen these competencies.

Abstract (sommario):
Background and objective: Community pharmacists play an important role in the best use of drugs and in improving patient outcomes. Evidence demonstrates that pharmacists' counseling improves the quality of life, clinical outcomes, and drug and disease knowledge and reduces the utilization of health services. This study aimed to investigate the nature and extent of counseling practices of community pharmacists in community pharmacies in Sulaimani region of Kurdistan, Iraq. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in community pharmacies in Sulaimani city, in a one-month duration from November to December 2020. The sample size was 100 community pharmacies, which were selected randomly. The data were stored and analyzed using Excel 2016 and expressed as frequencies and percentages. Results: According to the completed questionnaires, about 78.8% of pharmacists would do counseling spontaneously each time they dispense any drug. Only 61% of the pharmacists would ask the patients if they understood what was said during their communication to assess the understanding of advice given to their patients. The most common barrier observed during patient counseling was the patient's lack of time. Conclusion: This study indicates that community pharmacists counsel the patients in an appropriate way. They provide information orally and in written form. However, further research is needed to evaluate the quality of patient counseling by using different methods like pseudo-patient methodology to gain real counseling data. Keywords: Counselling; Community pharmacist; Community pharmacy; Counselling barriers.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Optimum infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices are essential for adequate growth and development of infants and children. Malnutrition in children occurs almost entirely during the first two years of life, is virtually irreversible after that. Despite the IYCF guidelines, there is no consistent literature on the prevalence of existing IYCF practices and impact of optimum IYCF practices. This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of existing IYCF practices and to determine the impact of IYCF counseling in children less than 2 years. Methods: A cross-sectional before and after study was done in mother-children dyads (aged 0-24 months). All 125 mother-children dyads were interviewed using prevalidated IYCF questionnaire after obtaining informed consent. The pre-counseling knowledge of mothers, on existing IYCF practices were analyzed using IYCF core and optional indicators. At 6 weeks, the post-counselling knowledge of the mothers was assessed using the same core and optional indicators. Results: Exclusive breastfeeding was seen in 18 of 43 (41.8%) mothers who showed statistically significant improvement to 40 (93%) (p<0.001) after counseling. Children ever breastfed were 62.4%. Predominat breastfeeding was observed in 24%. Initiation of complementary feeding at 6 months of age, improved significantly (p<0.001) post-counseling from 19 mothers (82.6%) to 23 mothers (100%). Minimum dietary diversity improved significantly post counseling, from 23 (28.7%) children to 70 children (87.5%) (p=0.03). Minimum meal frequency was only 22 (48.8%) in breastfed and 8 (22.9%) in non-breastfed children before counseling and improved to 40 (88.9%) in breastfed and 28 (80%) in non-breastfed children (p=0.04). The minimum acceptable diet was given to 2 (4.4%) children aged 6-23 months out of 45 in the breastfed group and on counseling, it improved to 37 (82.23%), which was statistically significant (p<0.001). Among the 35 non-breastfed children, with 2 children aged 6-23 months receiving minimally acceptable diet increased to 28 (80%) post counseling, which was found to be statistically significant (p<0.0001). A significant reduction in bottle feeding was observed from 52 (41.6%) mothers bottle feeding pre counseling, to 18 (1.4%) post counseling (p<0.001).Conclusions: The present study concludes that maternal education on IYCF practices improves their knowledge significantly irrespective of their socioeconomic and education status. Effective IYCF counselling services improve the growth and development of a child. IYCF counselling services provide a critical window of opportunity to tackle the malnutrition crisis and ensure and promote appropriate child growth and survival.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background Community or family-based DOT improves clinical outcomes and quality of life of TB patients compared to facility-based DOT. Based on a previously conducted clinical trial and recommended best practice guidelines, Armenia started the institutionalization of the family-based DOT in 2019, as an important component of the integrated people-centered approach in TB treatment. Psycho-social counselling and education played a crucial role in preparing patients/family members for this new model of care. Methods To facilitate the family-based DOT, multidisciplinary counseling teams consisting of a TB nurse and a psychologist or a TB nurse and a social worker were formed and further incorporated into the existing TB care system. After a systematic evaluation the strongest applicants were shortlisted, interviewed, and selected. They underwent a three-day training, improving their knowledge on TB disease, its transmission, diagnosis and treatment; patient counseling with an emphasis on motivational interviewing techniques; and people-centered TB care. A comprehensive package of procedural documents was developed to facilitate the counseling teams work process, including a guideline on counseling, reporting forms, and patients' educational materials. At an early stage of TB treatment, the counseling teams provide psycho-social counselling to patients and their families, and educate them on TB risk factors and infection control. Results The counselling teams have been based in the National Center of Pulmonology of the RA and provide psycho-social counselling to all drug susceptible TB patients and their family members all over Armenia. The counseling teams prepare patients/family members for the family-based DOT and provide continuous support during the entire treatment. The integration of counselling teams in the TB care system has provided the required human resource and capacity for the successful adoption of a new model of people-centered TB care in Armenia.

Abstract (sommario):
Cancer is one of the main problems in the India and world also. From the world health organization report (2022), 10 million deaths in the year of 2022 of the entire world. This reflects one in six deaths. Side effects are very common in the cancer treatment process i.e. chemotherapy, radiotherapy and chemo radiation therapy. Proper knowledge is required in these aspects. Sometimes these side effects lead to life threatening due to lack of knowledge on side effects management while patients are in the home. These patients also need counseling, consultation and about side effects management of their treatment. This counselling leads to not only the patient’s quality of life but also improve the patients’ psychological conditions during their treatment process. In our prospective observational study, the main objectives are checking the effectiveness of before counselling and after counselling with respect to patient’s side effect management and psychological effectiveness. Finally evaluate the outcome with the counselling in both breast and cervical cancer patients. We provide counseling for cancer patients in King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam, India. In our study we used EORTC QLQ – C30 (version 3) scale for comparison of with or without counseling in the areas of side effect management, effectiveness of psychological and nutritional in breast and cervical cancer patients. Finally in our study we noticed that mostly rural area and some urban people were lack of knowledge on side effect management of cancer treatment. By providing better counseling to these patients especially in rural area people for their treatment and create awareness of cancer in group counseling for care givers then automatically better side effect management was possible in cancer patients. Pharmacist counseling is one of the important services that has been associated with improved outcome.

Abstract (sommario):
In the Minna East Senatorial District of Niger State, this study looked into e-counseling and counsellors' talents and competencies for counseling services in secondary schools. The study was directed by three research questions and one null hypothesis. The study was conducted using a descriptive survey research approach. 312 counselors were included in the study. A basic random sampling procedure was used to select the sample. The respondents' data was collected using the E-counseling and Counsellors' Abilities and Competencies in Guidance and Counselling Services Questionnaire (ECACGCSQ). To answer the study questions, the data were examined using frequency counts and percentages, while t-test statistics were utilized to test the null hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the data demonstrated that certified school counselors have very weak e-counselling abilities and competencies in the utilization of ICT facilities for students' counseling services. In light of the hazards and threats posed by COVID-19, the study advised that the government teach counsellors on how to use E-counselling services, in accordance to health experts' COVID-19 safety guidelines for the health and safety of all pupils.
