Abstract (sommario):
In the contemporary era marked by technological advancements and pervasive use of social media, there has been a notable surge in the collection and subsequent processing of personal data, transforming them into economic assets exploited by corporations. This phenomenon gives rise to a "surveillance society" or "mental capitalism," prominently characterized by the customization of advertisements based on users' consumption profiles and behaviors. Despite its focus on personalized advertising, this practice frequently employs persuasive techniques that possess the potential to influence consumer decisions, prompting concerns about user manipulation and the erosion of decision-making autonomy. This study employs the exploratory deductive method to scrutinize the provisions of one of the European Union's latest regulations tailored for digital platforms, namely the Data Services Act, and its efficacy in addressing the prevailing issues. The research identifies ambiguity within the regulation, particularly regarding its applicability to operations involving the processing of personal data and dark patterns. Additionally, findings emphasize the necessity for active supervision, especially concerning the profiling of children and adolescents. In conclusion, this study underscores the urgency of implementing regulatory measures to ensure more effective protection, mitigating persuasive and obscure practices on social media. Such efforts aim to preserve consumer autonomy and rights in an increasingly digital and data-driven world.

Abstract (sommario):
The adoption of Artificial Intelligence is steadily increasing, but the underlying algorithms have become so complex that they are no longer transparent. The EU has introduced some modest AI transparency requirements as part of its General Data Protection Regulation. However, two years after their introduction, the effectiveness of these rules remains questionable. Our aim is to contribute towards the further development of a governance framework for AI. We begin by explaining how the algorithms that enable the speed and data processing power of AI also obscure its transparency. We review how major guidelines on AI ethics operationalize algorithmic transparency, following which we assess whether these principles are adequately covered by the GDPR. We then present the results of semi-structured interviews of a heterogeneous sample of stakeholders of consumer information online (N=75). Our data provide evidence that the current implementation of the EU’s informed consumer paradigm fails to establish a satisfactory level of consumer protection and information online. If simple technological applications such as cookies remain non-transparent to consumers, the current approaches are entirely incapable of addressing the problem of complex AI applications. We conclude by formulating a policy proposal as to how the transparency of AI applications could be improved from the perspective of end users. artificial intelligence, explainable AI, automated individual decision-making, profiling, consumer protection, data protection, GDPR, information disclosures, transparency, AI ethics

Abstract (sommario):
In the digital transformation era, banks have been working to implement a digital strategy that will lead to lower costs, better service, higher profitability, and the desired level of customer satisfaction. Utilising marketing technology for consumer engagement is essential to bringing in more customers without increasing costs. Omnichannel is the marketing strategy that offers more services to customers by having them interact with it across all available physical and digital channels at any time, resulting in higher customer satisfaction and loyalty. Customer data is significant information that may be used at any stage of the digital marketing process. The Protection of Personal Data Act of 2022 and the Act of Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector of 2023 govern consumer data protection at all stages of marketing activities, including data processing, profiling, and collaboration with other organisations. This study reviews how far the governing laws can protect consumer private data in utilisation in the company's digital marketing program to boost utilisation of the company's omnichannel approach. The study discovered that governing laws can protect the customer's private data in the banking omnichannel approach. Customer data are governed clearly and strongly by the regulations at all marketing program phases that could potentially be exploited, so both laws will be able to prevent illegal activities of customer data optimally in the future. Lastly, customer approval is critical for the Bank's use of all customer data.

Abstract (sommario):
Aligning the production of lamb cuts with consumer preferences is an ongoing challenge for the Australian lamb supply chain. In recent decades, genetic and on-farm management practices have improved, while the demographics of consumers and their consumption patterns have changed. This has resulted in larger traditional lamb cuts, which have less appeal to modern consumers. Therefore, research has been conducted to determine the potential to fabricate new value-added lamb cuts from heavier carcasses, determine consumer preferences for lamb roasts, investigate the impact of increasing carcass weight and fat depths on the production of value-added retail cuts and determine the nutritional composition of these cuts. In an effort to address these issues, a new value-added cut, the compact shoulder roast, was developed from the forequarter of the carcass to provide an option for retailers processing heavier lamb carcasses. A subsequent survey of consumer preferences highlighted that preferences for roast weight and size were affected by frequency of consumption, with daily consumers preferring the heaviest roasts and younger consumers preferring lighter roasts, implying the need for further fabrication, such as that required for the compact shoulder roast. However, the time taken to fabricate these value-added cuts increases with each kilo increase in carcass weight and decreasing saleable meat yield of lamb carcasses results as the degree of value-adding increases, indicating that a higher average price per kilo is required at retail. Subsequently, value-added cuts will need to be marketed on the basis of other product qualities such as nutritive value. However, profiling of lamb cuts has also shown that there is little data on the nutritive value of a range of lamb cuts, apart from the loin, so work has been undertaken to address this deficiency using grass-fed lamb through a major supply chain.

<p>The evolution of smart meters has led to the generation of high-resolution time-series data - a stream of data capable of unveiling valuable knowledge from consumption behaviours for different applications. The ability to extract hidden knowledge from such massive amounts of data requires that it be analysed intelligently. Hence, for a clear representation of the various consumption behaviours of consumers, a good number of data mining technologies are usually employed. This paper presents a systematic review of the various data mining techniques and methodologies employed while profiling energy data streams. The review identifies the strengths and shortcomings of existing data mining methods as applied in research, focusing more on data processing techniques and load clustering. Also discussed are data mining methods used to profile consumption data, their pros and cons. It was inferred during the research that the choice of data mining technique employed is highly dependent on the application it is intended for and the intrinsic nature of the dataset.</p>

Abstract (sommario):
Proteomic patterns derived from mass spectrometry have recently been put forth as potential biomarkers for the early diagnosis of cancer. This approach has generated much excitement, particularly as initial results reported on SELDI profiling of serum suggested that near perfect sensitivity and specificity could be achieved in diagnosing ovarian cancer. However, more recent reports have suggested that much of the observed structure could be due to the presence of experimental bias. A rebuttal to the findings of bias, subtitled “Producers and Consumers”, lists several objections. In this paper, we attempt to address these objections. While we continue to find evidence of experimental bias, we emphasize that the problems found are associated with experimental design and processing, and can be avoided in future studies.

Abstract (sommario):
Data mining is a promising tool used in processing energy data collected from energy consumers. The knowledge derived from energy data is very pertinent in the formulation of various demand-side management programs. This paper uses clustering techniques to segment the energy consumption patterns of residential and commercial buildings; situated at different geographical locations. The two (2) commonly used clustering techniques: K-Means and Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering, were employed. The result indicates that the choice of clustering technique for load profiling is highly subjective to the nature of the dataset. Hence, using Davies-Bouldin Index (DB) Index and Silhouette Index (SI) as clustering indicators to select an optimum number of clusters and the best clustering technique. Hierarchical clustering was identified as the most appropriate clustering for the two buildings.

Abstract (sommario):
This article aims <span lang="EN-US">to estimate the load profiling of electricity that provides information on the electrical load demand. In achieving this research implemented the neural network algorithm of joint approximate diagonalisation of eigen-matrices (JADE) to describe the load profile pattern for each point. Nowadays, utility providers claim that natural sources are used to generate power by rising consumer demands for energy. However, occasionally utility workers need to know the demand at certain location, corresponding to maintenance issues or for any shutdown area involved.<br /> A distribution pattern based on the data can be predicted based on the incoming data profile without having detailed information of certain load bus, the concept of derivatives was relevant to forecast the types of distribution data. The model was constructed with load profile information based on three different locations, and the concept of derivative was recognized, including the type of incoming data. Historical data were captured from a selected location in Malaysia that was proposed to train the JADE algorithm from three different empirical distributions of consumers, recording every 15 minutes per day. The results were analyzed based on the error measurement and compared with the real specific load distribution feeder information of needed profiles.</span>

Abstract (sommario):
The optimization of innovation and food technological processes not only increases the profits of companies but also allows them to achieve the set goals of the green trajectory. This research aimed to collect data on the biochemical composition of different parts of the raspberry variety ‘Polka’, including the various morphological parts, to present the importance of differentiating plant parts in food processing, and to show the potential of usage for primary processing in different fields of the food industry. Fruits, stems (cane), leaves, flowers, seeds, and roots were evaluated according to their chemical composition and mineral (Ca, Mg, B, Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mn) contents, phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activity. In our study, the contents of inverted sugar, saccharose, and total sugar varied from 51.8 ± 2.46 %, 18.9 ± 0.31 %, and 69.7 ± 4,36 % in raspberry puree to 5.9 ± %, 1.51 ± %, 7.39 ± % in the seeds, respectively. The results regarding the mineral composition of various raspberry parts (mg/kg) indicated significant differences (p < 0.05). The contents of manganese and iron (57.6 ± 0.50; 36.9 ± 0.59) were the highest in all the parts in the plant. Manganese varied from 246 ± 10.32 in inflorescence to 40.1 ± 0.87 in the seeds. Iron fluctuated from 1553 ± 44.03 in the roots to 35.5 ± 0.15 in the seeds. The highest statistically significant boron content (p < 0.05) was found in the leaves (41.8 ± 0.33), while the lowest was in the seeds (7.17 ± 0.19). The total phenol content of the raspberry’s distinct parts ranged from 6500 mg GAE/100 g DW to 1700 mg GAE/100 g DW. The inflorescence had the considerably highest total phenol content. Our study found that the highest amount of epicatechin is found in the roots (9162.1 ± 647.86 mg), while the fruits contain only 657.5 ± 92.99, and the lowest value is in the stems (130.3 ± 9.22). High levels of procyanidin B2 were found in the raspberry roots (7268.7 ± 513.98), while the stems had the lowest value–368.4 ± 26.05. The DPPH of the raspberry morphological parts ranged from 145.1 to 653.6 µmol TE/g FW, ABTS—from 1091.8 to 243.4 µmol TE/g FW, and the FRAP—from 720.0 to 127.0 µmol TE/g FW. The study revealed the importance of differentiating plant parts in production for the quality of the final product. Studies showed that raspberry plant parts represent a potential source of natural food ingredients, and can be a potential raw material for products rich in phenolic compounds or dietary fiber, which can provide healthy properties to food when used as an additive that may be economically attractive for consumers.

Abstract (sommario):
With the advent of smart, inexpensive devices and a highly connected world, a need for smart service discovery, delivery, and adaptation has appeared. This interconnection is composed of sensors within devices or placed externally in the surrounding environment. Our research addresses this need through a context aware system, which adapts to the users’ context. Given that the devices are mobile and battery operated, the main challenge in a context awareness approach is power conservation. The devices are composed of small sensors that consume power in the order of a few mW. However, their consumptions increase manifold during data processing. There is a need to conserve power while delivering the requisite functionality of the context aware system. Therefore, this feature is termed as ‘power awareness.’ In this paper, we describe different power awareness techniques and compare them in terms of their conservation effectiveness. In addition, based on the investigations and comparison of the results, a power aware framework is proposed for a context aware system.

Abstract (sommario):
Cocoa and its derivative products, especially chocolate, are highly appreciated by consumers for their exceptional organoleptic qualities, thus being often considered delicacies. They are also regarded as superfoods due to their nutritional and health properties. Cocoa is susceptible to adulteration to obtain illicit economic benefits, so strategies capable of authenticating its attributes are needed. Features such as cocoa variety, origin, fair trade, and organic production are increasingly important in our society, so they need to be guaranteed. Most of the methods dealing with food authentication rely on profiling and fingerprinting approaches. The compositional profiles of natural components –such as polyphenols, biogenic amines, amino acids, volatile organic compounds, and fatty acids– are the source of information to address these issues. As for fingerprinting, analytical techniques, such as chromatography, infrared, Raman, and mass spectrometry, generate rich fingerprints containing dozens of features to be used for discrimination purposes. In the two cases, the data generated are complex, so chemometric methods are usually applied to extract the underlying information. In this review, we present the state of the art of cocoa and chocolate authentication, highlighting the pros and cons of the different approaches. Besides, the relevance of the proposed methods in quality control and the novel trends for sample analysis are also discussed.

AbstractObjectiveTo examine the availability of packaged food products in New Zealand supermarkets by level of industrial processing, nutrient profiling score (NPSC), price (energy, unit and serving costs) and brand variety.DesignSecondary analysis of cross-sectional survey data on packaged supermarket food and non-alcoholic beverages. Products were classified according to level of industrial processing (minimally, culinary and ultra-processed) and their NPSC.SettingPackaged foods available in four major supermarkets in Auckland, New Zealand.SubjectsPackaged supermarket food products for the years 2011 and 2013.ResultsThe majority (84 % in 2011 and 83 % in 2013) of packaged foods were classified as ultra-processed. A significant positive association was found between the level of industrial processing and NPSC, i.e. ultra-processed foods had a worse nutrient profile (NPSC=11·63) than culinary processed foods (NPSC=7·95), which in turn had a worse nutrient profile than minimally processed foods (NPSC=3·27), P<0·001. No clear associations were observed between the three price measures and level of processing. The study observed many variations of virtually the same product. The ten largest food manufacturers produced 35 % of all packaged foods available.ConclusionsIn New Zealand supermarkets, ultra-processed foods comprise the largest proportion of packaged foods and are less healthy than less processed foods. The lack of significant price difference between ultra- and less processed foods suggests ultra-processed foods might provide time-poor consumers with more value for money. These findings highlight the need to improve the supermarket food supply by reducing numbers of ultra-processed foods and by reformulating products to improve their nutritional profile.

Abstract (sommario):
Considering the recent exponential growth in the amount of information processed in Big Data, the high energy consumed by data processing engines in datacenters has become a major issue, underlining the need for efficient resource allocation for more energy-efficient computing. We previously proposed the Best Trade-off Point (BToP) method, which provides a general approach and techniques based on an algorithm with mathematical formulas to find the best trade-off point on an elbow curve of performance vs. resources for efficient resource provisioning in Hadoop MapReduce. The BToP method is expected to work for any application or system which relies on a trade-off elbow curve, non-inverted or inverted, for making good decisions. In this paper, we apply the BToP method to the emerging cluster computing framework, Apache Spark, and show that its performance and energy consumption are better than Spark with its built-in dynamic resource allocation enabled. Our Spark-Bench tests confirm the effectiveness of using the BToP method with Spark to determine the optimal number of executors for any workload in production environments where job profiling for behavioral replication will lead to the most efficient resource provisioning.

Abstract (sommario):
The main objective of the article is to describe the basics of using data on the activity/passivity of social network users and gadget owners, as well as related challenges. Using the method of content analysis, we consider the profile in the social network as the profile of the identity of the owner. Through the prism of presence/absence of information, we can assume who is this or that user. Based on various criteria, we can determine to which category a particular user can be attributed. We consider the profile in the network as a place of confession for the user, and the gadget considered as “prosthesis” that everyone needs to achieve their goals. Therefore, the person and the gadget are considered holistic. We provide information on the development of the OCEAN method, which allows us to «measure» the human psyche based on auto-expression on a social network. We present examples of using users data by Cambridge Analytics for political purposes, such as the 2016 presidential election in the USA, Brexit, and examples showing global data collection, high data representativeness, automating data collection processes, processing information from social network users and their profiling. To demonstrate the level of representativeness of the data, we compared the number of Facebook users in the USA with a population of this country. For comparison purpose, we also analyzed the statistics of users of the Android system. Based on the methods of induction and deduction, as a result, we presented the problems associated with the use of information of gadgets owners (identity theft, using data for manipulation (political and consumer) purpose, threats to democratic elections and the loss of subjectivity in the decision-making process). We also noted the trend (disappointment of people who understand the situation in the political system as a whole), which will develop as a reaction to these processes. As a conclusion, we propose solutions that can reduce negative processes (improving legislation at the international and national level, promoting awareness). The significance of this study for science and society is to clarify the problems associated with big data, which often remain outside the scope of discussion.

Abstract (sommario):
Every year, over 30% of food production is wasted. However, promoting a sustainable food supply not only fosters economic stability in agriculture and the food industry, but also safeguards precious natural resources and ensures universal food access and safety. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine how specific growth conditions (utilizing by-products: sprouted potatoes (1), wheat bran (2), brewers’ spent grain (3), and a control sample with agar-agar gels (4)) affect the larvae of yellow mealworms (Tenebrio molitor). This includes their nutritional and energy value, consumer sensory profiling, and technological parameters of processing. The results have indicated that larvae reared on the substrate with wheat bran had the highest energy value, at 708.26 kcal. In larvae, the difference in protein content was not significant when changing the rearing conditions, and ranged between 48.54 and 59.18%. The larvae contained a significant content of fibers, with the highest amount detected in samples with brewers’ spent grain. The data indicate that glucose and arabinose were distinctive to larvae. Our study has also revealed a statistical difference in ash content between larvae and the substrate, with higher levels of nitrogen, copper, and zinc detected in the larvae compared to the substrate. We have found that the salt was naturally occurring in the substrates, with the brewers’ spent grain sample having the highest amount, at 1.83%. However, the control sample yielded the highest ratings, achieving a score of 7.30 for general smell acceptability. These findings emphasize the potential of utilizing various industrial and farm by-products as substrates for mealworms, transforming them into a sustainable and nutrient-rich food source. This contribution adds to the broader discourse on nutritional value and resource efficiency.

Abstract (sommario):
The flower bud of Panax notoginseng (PNF) consumed as a tonic shows potential in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. To identify the contained multi-components and, in particular, to clarify which components can be absorbed and what metabolites are transformed, unveiling the effective substances of PNF is of vital significance. A unique ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography/ion mobility quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC/IM-QTOF-MS) profiling approach and efficient data processing by the UNIFITM bioinformatics platform were employed to comprehensively identify the multi-components of PNF and the related metabolites in the plasma of rats after oral administration (at a dose of 3.6 g/kg). Two MS2 data acquisition modes operating in the negative electrospray ionization mode, involving high-definition MSE (HDMSE) and data-dependent acquisition (DDA), were utilized aimed to extend the coverage and simultaneously ensure the quality of the MS2 spectra. As a result, 219 components from PNF were identified or tentatively characterized, and 40 thereof could be absorbed. Moreover, 11 metabolites were characterized from the rat plasma. The metabolic pathways mainly included the phase I (deglycosylation and oxidation). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report that systematically studies the in vivo metabolites of PNF, which can assist in better understanding its tonifying effects and benefit its further development.

Abstract (sommario):
Almond is consumed worldwide and renowned as a valuable healthy food. Despite this, it is also a potent source of allergenic proteins that can trigger several mild to life-threatening immunoreactions. Food processing proved to alter biochemical characteristics of proteins, thus affecting the respective allergenicity. In this paper, we investigated the effect of autoclaving, preceded or not by a hydration step, on the biochemical and immunological properties of almond proteins. Any variation in the stability and immunoreactivity of almond proteins extracted from the treated materials were evaluated by total protein quantification, Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), and protein profiling by electrophoresis-based separation (SDS-PAGE). The sole autoclaving applied was found to weakly affect almond protein stability, despite what was observed when hydration preceded autoclaving, which resulted in a loss of approximately 70% of total protein content compared to untreated samples, and a remarkable reduction of the final immunoreactivity. The final SDS-PAGE protein pattern recorded for hydrated and autoclaved almonds disclosed significant changes. In addition, the same samples were further submitted to human-simulated gastro-intestinal (GI) digestion to evaluate potential changes induced by these processing methods on allergen digestibility. Digestion products were identified by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution Tandem Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-HRMS/MS) analysis followed by software-based data mining, and complementary information was provided by analyzing the proteolytic fragments lower than 6 kDa in size. The autoclave-based treatment was found not to alter the allergen digestibility, whereas an increased susceptibility to proteolytic action of digestive enzymes was observed in almonds subjected to autoclaving of prehydrated almond kernels. Finally, the residual immunoreactivity of the GI-resistant peptides was in-silico investigated by bioinformatic tools. Results obtained confirm that by adopting both approaches, no epitopes associated with known allergens survived, thus demonstrating the potential effectiveness of these treatments to reduce almond allergenicity.

Forty-two batches of flower bud samples were analyzed in negative high-definition MSE (HDMSE; enabling three-dimensional separations). Efficient metabolomics data processing was performed by Progenesis QI (Waters, Milford, MA, USA), while pattern-recognition chemometrics was applied for species classification and potential markers discovery. Reference compounds comparison, analysis of both HDMSE and targeted MS/MS data, and retrieval of an in-house ginsenoside library, were simultaneously utilized for the identification of discovered potential markers. Satisfactory conditions for metabolite profiling were achieved on a BEH Shield RP18 column and Vion™ IMS-QTOF instrument (Waters; by setting the capillary voltage of 1.0 kV and the cone of voltage 20 V) within 37 min. A total of 32 components were identified as the potential markers, of which Rb3, Ra1, isomer of m-Rc/m-Rb2/m-Rb3, isomer of Ra1/Ra2, Rb1, and isomer of Ra3, were the most important for differentiating among PGF, PQF, and PNF. Conclusively, UHPLC/IM-QTOF-MS-based metabolomics is a powerful tool for the authentication of TCM at the metabolome level.

Abstract (sommario):
The article contains materials of planning experimental research of modern web browsers' energy efficiency.Modern technologies of software development do not always allow you to get an energy-efficient software at the output. Therefore, an increase of energy efficiency and the necessity to reduce operating costs, while reducing the environmental impact has become an current issue in many scientific communities. An open question which requires both theoretical and experimental study is understanding the functioning of software and its influence on the overall power consumption of a portable device.A web browser is an application that every Internet user has. Today, there are many different web browsers, but their main purpose is to enable the user to interact with text, images, videos, music, games and other information located on a website page on the Internet or a local network. Despite the growing popularity of using web browsers on portable devices, the energy consumed by this application is uncertain Therefore, experimental research of consumed energy by web browsers is an actual scientific and applied problem. At least 3 tools are needed to determine the performance and power consumption of web browsers. The first is a collection of loads to measure the performance of web browsers. As such a tool, two benchmarks are chosen from the Finnish company Futuremark, namely PEACEKEEPER. The second benchmark from the company Mozilla, which is called Dromaeo. Some popular benchmark variants, tests of which exist in selected tools were also considered. The second is the tool for energy profiling. The choice of Joulemeter software is explained by the fact that it is a profiler for Windows, which uses performance metrics to estimate the expended energy. Allows you to define and save in a file for later analysis of energy consumption of CPU, HDD, GPU, network devices and screen. And the most important thing is to monitor the consumption of electricity by a separate process. The third is a means of monitoring the use of system resources by the process. The standard utility included in the Windows OS was selected - a system monitor that allows you to monitor the consumption of system resources in real time, as well as keep usage statistics of these resources and save it into a file. For the processing of experimental data, the main methods of statistical analysis have been selected. Preliminary processing of data is carried out on the basis of basic statistical indicators such as: mean, minimum, maximum value, mean deviation, standard deviation, etc.The development of this research is supposed to carry out experimental studies of the energy efficiency of modern web browsers.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper aims at analyzing the consumers’ perception of grass-fed milk so as to understand if a production based on a sustainable business model could represent a response to new and emerging needs in consumption. The sample of the study was constituted by a total of 750 Italian members of the International Association Slow Food. A Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to summarize the quantitative variables, which, grouped in “dimensions”, were used as input for multivariate statistics (HCA, MCA) in order to define and explain consumer profiles. Our data confirm an in-progress change in milk consumption: Consumers were more oriented towards quality, local supply chains, traceability, and are characterized by an increasing propensity to a higher expense for grass-fed milk. Further research will enlarge the proposed panorama covering a sample of more general consumers. The study was a preliminary market analysis that could be used as the basis for a production, distribution, and consumption chain grass-fed-based model. Grass-fed milk is a product linking individual and societal needs for more sustainable production and entrepreneurship that creates a higher value product aligned with market needs.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT Increased consumer demand for convenience and ready-to-eat food, along with changes to consumer food purchase and storage practices, have resulted in an increased reliance on refrigeration to maximize food safety. Previous research suggests that many domestic refrigerators operate at temperatures exceeding recommendations; however, the results of several studies were determined by means of one temperature data point, which, given temperature fluctuation, may not be a true indicator of actual continual operating temperatures. Data detailing actual operating temperatures and the effects of consumer practices on temperatures are limited. This study has collated the time-temperature profiles of domestic refrigerators in consumer kitchens (n = 43) over 6.5 days with concurrent self-reported refrigerator usage. Overall, the findings established a significant difference (P &lt; 0.05) between one-off temperature (the recording of one temperature data point) and mean operating temperature. No refrigerator operated at ≤5.0°C for the entire duration of the study. Mean temperatures exceeding 5.0°C were recorded in the majority (91%) of refrigerators. No significant associations or differences were determined for temperature profiles and demographics, including household size, or refrigerator characteristics (age, type, loading, and location). A positive correlation (P &lt; 0.05) between room temperature and refrigerator temperature was determined. Reported door opening frequency correlated with temperature fluctuation (P &lt; 0.05). Thermometer usage was determined to be infrequent. Cumulatively, research findings have established that the majority of domestic refrigerators in consumer homes operate at potentially unsafe temperatures and that this is influenced by consumer usage. The findings from this study may be utilized to inform the development of shelf-life testing based on realistic domestic storage conditions. Furthermore, the data can inform the development of future educational interventions to increase safe domestic refrigeration practices.

Abstract (sommario):
Consumer-oriented rapid profiling methodologies, including free-choice profiling (FCP) and polarized sensory positioning (PSP), have been studied in recent decades, highlighting alternative aspects of conventional descriptive analysis (DA). In the present study, water samples were evaluated using DA, FCP, and PSP with open-ended questions to compare the sensory profiles. Ten bottled water samples and one filtered water sample were evaluated by a trained panel for DA (n = 11), a semi-trained panel for FCP (n = 16), and naïve consumers for PSP (n = 63). The results were analyzed using principal component analysis for DA and multiple factor analysis for FCP and PSP data. The water samples were discriminated by their total mineral content, which was mainly associated with heavy mouthfeel. The overall discrimination patterns for the samples were similar between FCP and PSP, whereas DA showed different patterns. Sample discrimination through confidence ellipses from DA, FCP, and PSP showed that two consumer-oriented methodologies distinguished samples more clearly than DA. Throughout this study, consumer-oriented profiling methodologies were able to be used to investigate sensory profiles and provide rich information on consumer-derived sensory attributes even for subtly different samples.

Abstract (sommario):
An optimization study of food products is important to be able to develop a nutritious and least costly product using the most efficient processing method. In this study, optimization of an oven-roasted peanut product was done. A two-factor factorial experiment with three levels of garlic solution (4,6, &8 w/w) and roasting time (40, 45 & 50 min) was conducted. Consumer acceptance test and specturm descriptive analysis were done using the 9-point Hedonic scale and 15-cm semi-structrued line, respectively. Roasting time had significant effects on all sensory parameters studied. Garlic level significantly affected fracturability. The optimum combination of 4-8% (w/w) garlic solution and below 47 min roasting time produced a product with acceptability scored of >6.50. Verification study showed the predictive ability of the model which implies that the processor has confidence to choose any combination from the above-mentioned values. Product quality specifications and intensity for color, garlic aroma, hardness, crunchiness, fracturability, toothpacking, saltiness, garlic taste, bitterness taste, peanutty taste and roastedness flavor were established.

Abstract (sommario):
A three‐component 3D vertical seismic profile (VSP) was acquired over the Blackfoot oil field in Alberta, Canada. The VSP survey was recorded simultaneously with a surface seismic program. The objectives of the VSP were to develop recording logistics, data handling, and processing procedures and to determine if the 3D VSP volumes could image the glauconitic sand reservoir of the Blackfoot field. Dynamite shots from the surface seismic survey, which fell within a 2200‐m offset from the recording well, were used in the VSP analysis. The shots were recorded by a string of three‐component borehole receivers that was moved seven times, resulting in a receiver depth range of 400 to 910 m. The borehole data were processed using basic VSP processing techniques that included hodogram analysis, wavefield separation using median filters, and VSP deconvolution. The final P‐P and P‐S image volumes were obtained by VSP common‐depth point and VSP common‐conversion point stacking the upgoing wavefields followed by f‐xy deconvolution. The P‐P and P‐S images from the VSP correlate well with those from the surface seismic survey. Time slices from the VSP also indicate the trend of the sand channel of the Blackfoot field.

Abstract (sommario):
Shelf-life loss during the distribution of food is a growing problem for the food industry as manufacturers centralize production into large manufacturing units and expand their markets. Adaptation of made-in-transit (MIT) concept that changes the transportation of food from merely relocating products to a productive system would permit production during distribution. This concept could maximize product shelf-life and providing the consumer with the freshest product. Alteration of some yoghurt processing parameters (e.g. milk base, heat treatment, starter culture concentration and fermentation temperature) was able make the yoghurt suitable for an MIT product. Therefore, this work is to determine the sensory characteristic of two manufacturing methods for MIT set yoghurt. Manufacturing method (1) consisted of a skim milk base fortified with milk protein concentrate (MPC) inoculated with a 0.2% (v/v) inoculum of S. thermophilus STM5 and L. acidophilus LA5 (STLA) in a ratio of 1:1. Manufacturing method (2) consisted of a skim milk base fortified with sodium caseinate (NaCN) inoculated with a 0.002% (v/v) inoculum of STLA. In both manufacturing methods, fermentation was at 25°C for 168 h. Sensory evaluation of the yoghurts manufactured by each method was compared with standard set yoghurt. There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) between the two MIT set yoghurts on sensory evaluation (descriptive test) yet they were significantly different (p < 0.05) to the standard set yoghurt. MIT set yoghurts scored better than standard set yoghurt for overall acceptance.

Abstract (sommario):
Data is one element that is considered important in a business. If the processing is carried out correctly and as needed, the data has high quality. High data quality can have a positive impact, that is, it can create information and knowledge to support decision-making. In fact, many organizations accumulate data without a good data storage or management system and cause the data to become large so that it is difficult to understand and produce information in it that cannot be conveyed properly which makes a decision not have a maximum positive impact. Data Quality Management (DQM) is considered to be able to assist in maintaining quality in the data and ensure that no data is lost or damaged. Quality data is obtained by one of the stages in DQM, namely data profiling, which performs the process of checking the available and stored data to determine a content structure and data quality. The research focuses on implementing the DQM module data profiling feature on the Data Governance website application. This research produces data profiling features that can help people in data processing where the modules produced are value distribution, data completeness, clustering, value similarity and data deduplication.

Abstract (sommario):
Summary Objectives: Microarrays are a recent biotechnology that offers the hope of improved cancer classification. A number of publications presented clinically promising results by combining this new kind of biological data with specifically designed algorithmic approaches. But, reproducing published results in this domain is harder than it may seem. Methods: This paper presents examples, discusses the problems hidden in the published analyses and demonstrates a strategy to improve the situation which is based on the vignette technology available from the R and Bioconductor projects. Results: The tool of a compendium is discussed to achieve reproducible calculations and to offer an extensible computational framework. A compendium is a document that bundles primary data, processing methods (computational code), derived data, and statistical output with textual documentation and conclusions. It is interactive in the sense that it allows for the modification of the processing options, plugging in new data, or inserting further algorithms and visualizations. Conclusions: Due to the complexity of the algorithms, the size of the data sets, and the limitations of the medium printed paper it is usually not possible to report all the minutiae of the data processing and statistical computations. The technique of a compendium allows a complete critical assessment of a complex analysis.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract A processing methodology for computation of accurate salinity from measurements with an underway CTD (UCTD) is presented. The UCTD is a rapidly profiling sensor package lacking a pump that relies on instrument motion to produce flow through the conductivity cell. With variable instrument descent rate, the flow through the cell is not constant, and this has important implications for the processing. As expected, the misalignment of the raw temperature and conductivity is found to be a function of the instrument descent rate. Application of a constant temporal advance of conductivity or temperature as is done with pumped CTDs is shown to produce unacceptable salinity spiking. With the descent rate of the UCTD reaching upwards of 4 dbar s−1, the effect of viscous heating of the thermistor is shown to produce a significant salinity error of up to 0.005 psu, and a correction based on previous laboratory work is applied. Correction of the error due to the thermal mass of the conductivity cell is achieved using a previously developed methodology with the correction parameters varying with instrument descent rate. Comparison of salinity from the UCTD with that from a standard shipboard, pumped CTD in side-by-side deployments indicates that the processed UCTD salinity is accurate to better than 0.01 psu.

Abstract (sommario):
Consumer price index has been in the centre of interest for many years, since being published in 1990s in the Czech Republic but recent price growth raised more questions on methodology and data sources used in price statistics. Users are interested not only in the figures itself but also in statistical issue influencing interpretation and the quality of consumer price index that is often used as an approximation of inflation rate. The paper introduces price statistics compiled by the Czech Statistical Office and it specifically focuses on data sources and in particular scanner data. The paper explains how advanced statistical methods such as machine learning are implemented in official statistical production. We think that the official statistics is being on the historical junction where modern methods are going to be implemented. Our paper shows the usage of machine learning procedures applied on scanner data within consumer price index. Used method is based on logistic regression and powerful Python solution and that provides fast and high quality results.

Abstract (sommario):
Consumer data protection is part of the consumer protection aspect of online transactions or e-commerce activities. This research is a normative legal research based on library research. This study aims to know and understand that personal data is part of the constitutional rights of citizens, so that the state is obliged to protect dignity, respect and integrity of consumers as human beings. The use of any information through electronic media that involves a person's personal data must be done with the consent of the person concerned. The misuse of consumer data is a major problem in legal protection to consumers. Consumer data protection only relies on Ministerial Regulation Number 20 Year 2016 concerning Protection of Personal Data which cannot be used as a basis for solving the problem of data misuse. There needs to be a special institution in processing law enforcement in the context of protecting consumer data. Keywords: Consumer Data Protection

Abstract (sommario):
The text analyses the normative regulations adopted by the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (GDPR) in order to answer the question whether the said regulations properly balance the interests of both entities that use predictive analytics and profiling in their economic activity, and of persons whose data they process. As this type of processing is based on big data, the proper analysis of this issue had to begin with determining which types of data processed in such sets can be considered personal information and in what conditions they can be treated as such. Based on these findings, the study analyzed the duties imposed by the GDPR on entities processing personal data in situations when such information has been obtained from big data. This in turn made it possible to assess the adopted normative regulations as well as point to the possible solutions and development paths.

Abstract (sommario):
The implicit feedback information associated with actual behavior can symmetrically reflect consumer preference, which is valuable and deserves a deep investigation. Considering the inherent uncertainty and fuzziness of implicit data, the question of how to depict consumer preference in such data is always a critical and difficult issue. In this paper, a fuzzy profiling-nonnegative latent factor (FP-NLF) model is proposed to address this problem. First, a fuzzy profiling (FP) procedure is designed for characterization of consumer preference at various levels, where the fuzzy set is introduced to manage the uncertainty and fuzziness of implicit data. Two series of strategies are provided to determine the comprehensive preference for different scenarios and commercial intentions. Subsequently, a nonnegative latent factor (NLF) model is adopted to make predictions in the case of notably sparse data. Finally, a higher quality recommendation is ultimately produced for which only the products satisfying given preference level are recommended. In addition, a case study with real data is conducted for a detailed demonstration, and the results reveal the feasibility and superiority of our proposal through comparative analysis. Finally, the sensitivity analysis explores the influences of changing weights of strategy, which can provide guidance for developing purposeful strategies to better serve consumers.
