Abstract (sommario):
The colubrid snake genus Conopsis is distributed in mainland Mexico. The taxonomic history of this genus is complex and recently organisms under the genus Toluca have been synonimized with Conopsis. Here we present the nomenclatural history, morphological variation, distribution and a dichotomous key for the genus Conopsis. Species characterizations are based on a previous cladistic analysis of molecular and morphological characters. We recognize six valid species: C. acuta n. comb., C. amphisticha, C. biserialis, C. lineata, C. megalodon and C. nasus.

Conopsis nasus es una serpiente endémica a México, habita en bosques de pino-encino, matorrales xerófilos y submontanos, así como zonas perturbadas por la actividad humana. El 15 de enero de 2016, se encontró una hembra adulta de Conopsis nasus con coloración atípica albina, en la cabecera de Tula de Allende, Hidalgo, México. El ejemplar reportado se localizó en una zona de suelo calizo, lo que podría ayudar a explicar por qué logró alcanzar la talla adulta, a pesar de presentar una condición albina completa.

The impact of temperature on reptile physiology has been examined through two main parameters: locomotor performance and metabolic rates. Among reptiles, different species may respond to environmental temperatures in distinct ways, depending on their thermal sensitivity. Such variation can be linked to the ecological lifestyle of the species and needs to be taken into consideration when assessing the thermal influence on physiology. This is particularly relevant for snakes, which are a very functionally diverse group. In this study, our aim was to analyze the thermal sensitivity of locomotor performance and resting metabolic rate (RMR) in three snake species from central Mexico (Crotalus polystictus, Conopsis lineata, and Thamnophis melanogaster), highlighting how it is influenced by their distinctive behavioral and ecological traits. We tested both physiological parameters in five thermal treatments: 15 °C, 25 °C, 30 °C, 33 °C, and 36 °C. Using the performance data, we developed thermal performance curves (TPCs) for each species and analyzed the RMR data using generalized linear mixed models. The optimal temperature for locomotion of C. polystictus falls near its critical thermal maximum, suggesting that it can maintain performance at high temperatures but with a narrow thermal safety margin. T. melanogaster exhibited the fastest swimming speeds and the highest mass-adjusted RMR. This aligns with our expectations since it is an active forager, a high energy demand mode. The three species have a wide performance breadth, which suggests that they are thermal generalists that can maintain performance over a wide interval of temperatures. This can be beneficial to C. lineata in its cold habitat, since such a characteristic has been found to allow some species to maintain adequate performance levels in suboptimal temperatures. RMR increased along with temperature, but the proportional surge was not uniform since thermal sensitivity measured through Q10 increased at the low and high thermal treatments. High Q10 at low temperatures could be an adaptation to maintain favorable performance in suboptimal temperatures, whereas high Q10 at high temperatures could facilitate physiological responses to heat stress. Overall, our results show different physiological adaptations of the three species to the environments they inhabit. Their different activity patterns and foraging habits are closely linked to these adaptations. Further studies of other populations with different climatic conditions would provide valuable information to complement our current understanding of the effect of environmental properties on snake physiology.

Thick-headed flies of the genus Myopa Fabricius are a common sight in early spring in Europe. Several species can be found flying among Salix catkins together with their supposed Andrena Fabricius hosts (Hymenoptera: Apidae) (John Smit observations). Despite the fact that some of these Myopa species are very common, little is known about their actual host-parasitoid associations. Only a few scattered host records can be found in the literature, most of which refer to M. testacea s.l.. Whether or not these records actually concern M. testacea (Linnaeus) is uncertain due to the confusion over the identity of several species within the M. testacea species group (Stuke & Clements 2008). Stuke (2017), in his World Catalogue of Conopids, provides all recorded host associations and distinguishes between unambiguously accepted host records and doubtful records based on three criteria: 1) the conopid has been reared from the host or a larva has been identified by DNA barcoding; 2) there is no doubt concerning the identity of the conopid species concerned, and 3) there is no doubt concerning the identity of the host species. Because the vast majority of the host records in the literature do not fulfil one or more of these criteria they are regarded as doubtful (Stuke 2017). Thus, only three host associations for the genus Myopa can be regarded as confirmed: Andrena vaga Panzer, for both M. hirsuta Stuke & Clements (Jentzsch 2009) and M. testacea (Erteld 1998, Fellendorf et al. 2004, De Meijere 1912), and the Nearctic Andrena regularis Malloch, for the Holarctic M. vicaria Walker (Miliczky & Osgood 1995). Here we report on a fourth host association for the genus Myopa, since a second instar larva of M. pellucida Robineau-Desvoidy was found in the abdomen of an Andrena nitida (Müller) female and identified using DNA barcoding.

Аннотация. Сокращение биоразнообразия считается одной из значимых проблемсовременности. Одной из причин исчезновения редких видов растений является утратахарактерных местообитаний. Поэтому для сохранения таких видов необходимо изучениеэколого-ценотических параметров типичных биотопов на всем протяжении ареала и выделение ключевых факторов, лимитирующих их распространение. Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br. (Orchidaceae) – вид с сокращающейся численностью, включен в Красные книги многих субъектов РФ, в том числе и Кировской области. Цель настоящего исследования – выявлениефитоценотических параметров и экологических условий местообитаний G. conopsea в пределах южно-таежного фрагмента ареала (Кировская область). Сбор материала проведен в течение вегетационных периодов 2007–2019 гг. Описания растительных сообществ с G. conopsea осуществлены согласно общепринятым геоботаническим методам. Оценка экологических условий местообитаний проведена по составу видов в сообществах по десяти амплитудным шкаламД. Н. Цыганова. Гемеробность определена по составу видов в растительных сообществах,в которых каждый вид имеет индивидуальный спектр толерантности к антропогенным факторам. Показано, что в пределах рассматриваемого фрагмента ареала местообитания, G. conopsea характеризуются широким спектром типов: ксеро-мезофильные луговые сообщества, опушечные фитоценозы лесо-лугового типа, лесные сообщества из Pinus sylvestris. G. conopsea относится к мезобионтным видам. Коэффициент экологической валентности в среднем составляет 55%. Вид в изученных фитоценозах реализует от 3,54 до 52,20% своих потенциальных возможностей по изученным факторам. По климатическим факторам вид гемиэврибионтен (It–0,66). Максимально реализует свои потенции G. conopsea по омброклиматической шкале (15,14%). По всемклиматическим шкалам экологические условия изученных местообитаний занимают центральное положение от потенциально возможных. В обобщенном спектре почвенных шкал вид выступает как гемистенобионт (It–0,44). Для G. conopsea полученные результаты позволяют расширить на 0,62 ступени влево шкалу кислотности почв и на 1,07 ступени вправо шкалу солевого режима. По остальным шкалам значения экологического пространства G. conopsea в изученных биотопах укладываются в диапазоны, приводимые Д. Н. Цыгановым для данного вида. По результатам PCA анализа исследованных ЦП и значений эдафических параметров биотопов установлено, что определяющими параметрами экоареала для G. conopsea являются факторы увлажнения и переменности увлажнения почвы. Растительные сообщества с участием G. conopsea представлены преимущественно видами с высокой чувствительностью к антропогенному воздействию. Во всех исследуемых фитоценозах выявлена значительная доля участия b-c-p-гемеробов (34,89%), что свидетельствует об относительной устойчивости вида.

In the West Siberia there is very little data on the biology of cenopopulations of Gymnadenia conopsea. Habitat destruction and environmental changes, which potentially affected species long-term viability, led to G. conopsea cenopopulations fragmentation and isolation. A detailed study of the morphology variability of the Fragrant orchid representatives was carried out in the cenopopulation in Novosibirsk region. Our results indicate that asymbiotic germination of G. conopsea seeds is difficult to achieve and the species has serious conservation issues. It is the first report when the introduction of G. conopsea in tissue culture was undertaken as the initial stage of germplasm conservation of Siberian cenopopulation. Three modified nutrient media with different growth additives were tested to promote protocorm and seedling formation. The advanced G. conopsea seedlings establishment was obtained in 1/3 Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, supplemented by 1.0 mgl−1 2-isopentenyladenine (2iP), 0.1 mgl−1 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 10% coconut water. This study allowed establishing a reliable and reproducible system for the G. conopsea maintenance and conservation ex situ.

Gymnadenia conopsea (Fragrant orchid) is a widespread model species for the study of polymorphism in the European part of Russia and abroad. Flow cytometry refers to rapid methods effective for assessing the structure of a population by DNA size estimation. However, this method is only available in habitats with close proximity to the place of the experiment, because this indicator is determined only in fresh leaves. A small population of G. conopsea in the industrial area adjacent to the Novosibirsk urban agglomeration in the Novosibirsk Region (NR) was studied. Only diploids were detected in the G. conopsea cenopopulation occurred in the industrial zone of the NR. In this study we pointed on significance of genome size variation, which correlates with the adaptive evolution of the G. conopsea in West Siberia. The revealed absence of minor cytotypes (individuals with a higher level of ploidy) in G. conopsea population reduces intraspecific and intrapopulation diversity of the species.

Gymnadenia conopsea R. Br. is a traditional Tibetan medicinal plant that grows at altitudes above 3000 m, which is used to treat neurasthenia, asthma, coughs, and chronic hepatitis. However, a comprehensive configuration of the chemical profile of this plant has not been reported because of the complexity of its chemical constituents. In this study, a rapid and precise method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) combined with an Orbitrap mass spectrometer (UPLC–Orbitrap–MS/MS) was established in both positive- and negative-ion modes to rapidly identify various chemical components in the tubers of G. conopsea for the first time. Finally, a total of 91 compounds, including 17 succinic acid ester glycosides, 9 stilbenes, 6 phenanthrenes, 19 alkaloids, 11 terpenoids and steroids, 20 phenolic acid derivatives, and 9 others, were identified in the tubers of G. conopsea based on the accurate mass within 3 ppm error. Furthermore, many alkaloids, phenolic acid derivates, and terpenes were reported from G. conopsea for the first time. This rapid method provides an important scientific basis for further study on the cultivation, clinical application, and functional food of G. conopsea.

AbstractThe breeding system in Orchidaceae generates many questions about the selfing potential of its representatives. We investigated the ability of spontaneous autogamy of four orchid species: Cephalanthera rubra and Neottia ovata of the Neottieae tribe and Gymnadenia conopsea and Platanthera bifolia of the Orchideae tribe. These species represent diverse specializations of the gynostemium architecture. The self-compatibility and properties of autogamous seeds were determined in a bagging experiment and seed development analysis. After induced autogamy, a high level of fruiting (80-100%) was noted in all of the four study species. C. rubra, N. ovata, and G. conopsea are completely self-compatible, and P. bifolia is suggested to be partially self-compatible. If autogamy occurred, inbreeding depression and resource limitation on seed development appeared only in the two Orchideae species. Independent of flower specialization, both Neottieae species and P. bifolia were completely allogamous, whereas G. conopsea could be facultatively autogamous.

Designing a swarm of autonomous robots for commercial, military, or other purposes is a challenging engineering and human factors design effort. The challenges argue in favor of practices and tools for better integration of different engineering disciplines and for the advancement of communication between stakeholders with different interests. The Concept of Operations (ConOps) approach is widely used in Systems Engineering for this purpose. A ConOps is a high-level description of how the elements of a system and entities in its environment interact in order to achieve their stated goals. This paper will present the development of a ConOps for a swarm of autonomous robotic vehicles in the military domain to demonstrate how autonomic robotic swarms can be deployed in different military branches in the future. The proposed ConOps can be considered as a boundary object in the design, validation, or procurement of an autonomous robotic swarm system. We also propose that the ConOps should be maintained throughout the system life-cycle as an overview description and definition of overall goals and policies.

Abstract The project X-TEAM D2D (Extended ATM for Door-to-Door Travel) has been funded by SESAR JU in 2020 and completed its activities in 2022, pursuing and accomplishing the definition, development and initial assessment of a Concept of Operations (ConOps) for the seamless integration of ATM and air transport into an overall intermodal network, including other available transportation means (surface, water), to support the door-to-door connectivity, in up to 4 hours, between any location in Europe. The project addressed the ATM and air transport, including Urban Air Mobility (UAM), integration in the overall transport network serving urban and extended urban (up to regional level) mobility, specifically identifying and considering the transportation and passengers service scenarios expected for the near, medium and long-term future, i.e. for the project baseline (2025), intermediate (2035) and final (2050) time horizons. In this paper, the main outcomes from the project activities are summarized, with particular emphasis on the studies about the definition of future scenarios and use cases for the integration of the vertical transport with the surface transport towards integrated intermodal transport system and about identification of the barriers towards this goal. In addition, an outline is provided on the specific ConOps for the integration of ATM in intermodal transport infrastructure (i.e. the part of the overall ConOps devoted to integration of different transportation means) and on the specific ConOps for the integration of ATM in intermodal service to passengers (i.e. the specific component of the ConOps devoted to design of a unique service to passengers). Finally, the main outcomes are summarized from the validation of the proposed ConOps through dedicated simulations.

Here we report for the first time data on parasitism of two species of Euglossa, E. intersecta Latreille, 1838 and E. anodorhynchi Nemésio, 2006, by conopid flies of the genus Physocephala Schiner, 1861. A parasitized adult male of E. intersecta was collected in Acre, northwestern Brazil,while parasitized adult females of E. anodorhynchi were obtained from trap-nests in São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. For both host species, the parasite-host association was confirmed by rearing the flies from parasitized adult bees. E. anodorhynchi was attacked by Physocephala bipunctata (Macquart, 1843) and E. intersecta by an unidentified species of Physocephala Schiner, 1861. Although our current knowledge is still incipient, parasitism by conopid flies can be considered widespread in euglossine bees, judging from the cases reported so far, which involve different host genera and species distributed widely apart.

Изучены морфологические признаки Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br. в трёх ценопопуляциях навыходах известняковых пород по склонам долины р. Вятки. Все изученные признаки генеративных особей G.conopsea характеризуются от среднего до высокого уровнями варьирования. Наименее изменчивыми признакамиявляются число листьев надземного побега, длина листа второго от основания побега метамера. Наиболее изменчивым признаком выступает длина соцветия.

When large, complex interorganizational collaborations create new systems, they must discover how the system should work and how it should integrate into the overall organizational milieu. These collaborations must also draw upon and accommodate a host of processes and resources. In this paper, we present results from a qualitative case study of a key policy and process document for a large design project for a civic traffic management system that must serve multiple organizations and government agencies. The document is one common to systems engineering, but less familiar to CSCW: the Concept of Operations (ConOps). We describe the sociotechnical design functions of the ConOps. We also analyze the document and its developmental process using Ewenstein and Whyte's concept of epistemic objects," which has been useful for CSCW and design research scholars to understand the roles artifacts play in the messy processes of design and cooperative work. We find that the ConOps exhibits many qualities of an epistemic object and supports the deeply integrated work of "designing" both the system and the interorganizational collaboration itself. We then explore avenues for future research in similarly complex infrastructural design settings.

Ditaxodon taeniatus is a striped, racer-like colubrid snake inhabiting grassland savannas in southern Brazil. This species was described as Philodryas taeniatus by the then curator of the Museum für Naturkunde der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (formerly Zoologisches Museum Berlin, ZMB), Wilhelm Peters, from a single specimen collected by Reinhold Hensel in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Peters’ description was published in a paper by Hensel (1868: 331) and, according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN, 1999: Article 50.1, Recommendation 51E), the correct citation is Ditaxodon taeniatus (Peters in Hensel, 1868). Later, George A. Boulenger (1896: 124) transferred Philodryas taeniatus to the genus Conophis, and Alphonse R. Hoge (1958: 54) created for it the new genus Ditaxodon, which remains monotypic today.

Between 2005-2011, distribution of protected plant species was mapped in the loess hills of Marcali-hát, the marshland of Nagyberek, the southern shorezone of Lake Balaton and Külső-Somogy hills (Somogy county). Altogether, 72 protected and 1 strictly protected species were recorded. 9 species (Menyanthes trifoliata, Ophioglossum vulgatum, Anacamptis pyramidalis, Gymnadenia conopsea, Platanthera bifolia, Linum hirsutum, Aster amellus, Eleocharis uniglumis and Agrostemma githago) are new for the local flora.

Four species of Gymnadenia are native to Kosovo: G. conopsea, G. frivaldii, G. nigra, and G. odoratissima. In this study, field expedition data, phytosociological relevés, herbarium specimens along with extensive literature sources were used to analyse vegetation and ecological characteristics, habitat types, distributional patterns as well as provide notes on conservation. Gymnadenia conopsea is distributed throughout the country, from lowlands to the alpine belt. It was recorded in various plant communities. Gymnadenia frivaldii grows in the alpine zone of mountains, close to streams and in wet meadows. Its relevés belong to the class Scheuchzerio-Caricetea fuscae. This species is classified as “Near Threatened” (NT) in Kosovo. Gymnadenia nigra grows in subalpine and alpine grassland on preferably calcareous substrate. It has been found in almost all mountains reaching >2000 m a.s.l., and occurs in different plant communities belonging to the class: Elyno-Seslerietea. Gymnadenia odoratissima was recorded from one locality only in Kosovo, on the massif of Maja e Zezë, Sharri Mts. It was growing in degraded beech forest and meadows on silicate bedrock. Its floristically diverse relevés associate with the class: Mulgedio-Aconitetea. Of the four studied species, G. frivaldii deserves more conservation attention because of its fragile populations.

Abstract Studies of plant breeding systems are particularly important when they involve facultative processes, which can be overlooked in natural conditions. This especially applies to species that are considered allogamous, due to their pollination syndrome and floral architecture. We examined the potential level and factors enabling or limiting spontaneous autogamy in three populations of the lepidopteran orchid Gymnadenia conopsea. Using a bagging experiment, we noted the stages of the anther thecae and the positions of the pollinaria at the five phenological stages of the flower, as well as the quantity of autogamously set fruits and the number of properly formed seeds. In the studied populations, autogamy represents an accidental character, with a maximum of 3.3% of fruits set spontaneously per analysed sample in a given population, and with seed numbers ranging from 29 to 354. This process is an environmentally dependent co-product of the mechanisms that enable a position appropriate for touching the stigma (bending of the caudicle) and increase male fitness (disintegration of the massulae), preceded by the gradual opening of the anther chambers. Autopollination of G. conopsea may occur in the flowers at various flowering stages (excluding the beginning of anthesis) at each position on the inflorescence.

ABSTRACT 2017-333: In 2014, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) commissioned a study to inform an update of Oil Spill Response Plan (OSRP) regulations for offshore oil and gas facilities and pipelines at Title 30, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 254. The study, Oil Spill Response Equipment Capability Analysis, was conducted by a team led by Booz Allen Hamilton (Booz Allen), with support from RPS Group (formerly ASA Sciences), Environmental Research Consulting (ERC), and SEA Consulting. In close coordination with BSEE, the Booz Allen team reviewed eleven worst case discharge (WCD) scenarios in the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and Pacific Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Regions. The study, which involved literature reviews, oil spill modeling, and benchmarking against foreign and domestic regulatory regimes, concluded in February 2016, and highlighted many areas for improving the requirements for response capabilities in the OSRPs. This paper focuses on the key spill modeling methodologies, observations, and results in the Oil Spill Response Equipment Capability Analysis study, and its use of a concept of operations (CONOPS) for the application of various oil spill countermeasures in response to a WCD. The modeling results provided both new insights and reaffirmed many principles that have long guided oil spill response operations. The CONOPS systematically rolls them up into an offshore-based construct for employing multiple countermeasures in ways that will most effectively reduce oil contact with the environment. This effort did not attempt to quantify environmental impacts or provide guidance on applying countermeasures based upon a net environmental benefits analysis (NEBA) or spill impact mitigation analysis (SIMA). Decision-making for implementing the CONOPS will still require an additional overlying comparative analysis that evaluates the environmental, cultural, social and economic tradeoffs in order to find the preferred balance of spill countermeasures for a given planning scenario or incident. Regardless, the use of the construct (or CONOPS) as outlined in the study offers sound improvements for response planning involving very large spills in the offshore environment.

Osmophores of <em>Gymnadenia conopsea</em> are located on the adaxial surface of labellum and on distal parts of two lateral sepals. Osmophore cells are characterised with a large nucleus, and dense, granular cytoplasm, which contains numerous membranes of ER and large lipid droplets. Plastids are probably involved in the synthesis of fragrant substances and, contrary to the most of investigated orchid species, they do not contain starch. Numerous secretory vesicles take part in the secretion. Secreted fragrant substance migrates across the cell wall and through the pores in the cuticle. It is not accumulated on the osmophore cell surface.

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) represents a novel approach to urban transportation, integrating multiple systems and stakeholders to enable on‐demand, environment friendly, efficient, and sustainable air travel within cities. International organizations have dedicated significant efforts to develop a comprehensive Concept of Operation (ConOps) for UAM, aiming to define the UAM ecosystem and identify the supporting systems. While previous research was focused on defining the Urban Air System (UAS) using Systems Modeling Language (SysML), there remains a gap in capturing the ConOps for UAM as a System of Systems (SoS) using SysML. This study seeks to address this gap by utilizing the MagicGrid Framework for SoS modeling.

The final SEACOOS workshop included discussion of several topics relevant to further development of the SE regional coastal ocean observing system (RCOOS). First, many of the Information Management (IM) tools developed in the SEACOOS program can be migrated to a future RCOOS. It is recognized that IM is evolving, and continued communication with national and regional IM efforts will be required. Of particular importance is the establishment of standards for data quality assurance/quality control. Second, serving various user needs will require development of specific products (applications). Mechanisms to better link research and development (R&D) conducted by the RCOOS to applications development are needed, and dedicated funding for both R&D and for migrating from pilot to operational applications is required. It was suggested that the regional association (RA) could play a key role in this process; interfacing with users, prioritizing potential applications in relation to RCOOS capabilities, and coordinating with federal agencies and private industry. Third, it is essential that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined for the RCOOS and for the federal agencies contributing to the "national backbone" of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). This requires agreement on a Concept of Operations (CONOPS). The CONOPS must be defined at several levels and over a time frame sufficient to accommodate the transition from research/pilot to operational stages. To help coordinate regional and federal agency efforts in coastal ocean observing in the near-term, an interim CONOPS should be defined and designs for the RCOOS should be documented and evaluated.

During mission design, the concept of operations (ConOps) describes how the system operates during various life cycle phases to meet stakeholder expectations. ConOps is sometimes declined in a simple evaluation of the power consumption or data generation per mode. Different operational timelines are typically developed based on expert knowledge. This approach is robust when designing an automated system or a system with a low level of autonomy. However, when studying highly autonomous systems, designers may be interested in understanding how the system would react in an operational scenario when provided with knowledge about its actions and operational environment. These considerations can help verify and validate the proposed ConOps architecture, highlight shortcomings in both physical and functional design, and help better formulate detailed requirements. Hence, this study aims to provide a framework for the simulation and validation of operational scenarios for autonomous robotic space exploration systems during the preliminary design phases. This study extends current efforts in autonomy technology for planetary systems by focusing on testing their operability and assessing their performances in different scenarios early in the design process. The framework uses Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) as the knowledge base for the studied system and its operations. It then leverages a Markov Decision Process (MDP) to simulate a set of system operations in a relevant scenario. It then outputs a feasible plan with the associated variation of a set of considered resources as step functions. This method was applied to simulate the operations of a small rover exploring an unknown environment to observe and sample a set of targets.

Introduction:The swiftwater rescue (SWR) concept of operations (CONOPS) is to access as many victims as quickly as possible using strategies and tactics that maximize safety and minimize risk to all involved. “Reach, throw, row, go” has defined the primary water rescue strategy for 50+ years. However, this paradigm, originally designed for rescue from swimming pools, ponds and lakes, slow-moving rivers, and the ocean, is not conducive to SWR incidents involving submerged vehicles, which is the most common scenario during urban and small stream flash flooding.Aim:To present a new SWR strategy for urban and small stream flood response.Methods:Water rescue strategies and tactics were mapped against the SWR CONOPS to determine which ones are most likely to be successful in the rescue of victims trapped in submerged vehicles.Results:Rescue should be attempted via high water vehicles (HWVs) whenever possible, followed by watercraft and “go rescues” using advanced line systems techniques and/or tethered rescuers, dependent on incident characteristics. Positioning HWVs at the incident site permits rescuers to access victims quickly from the rear or sides of the vehicle, thereby reducing rescuer time in floodwaters. Multiple sequential rescues can be made since victims are held and medically monitored in the cargo area rather than transporting them to shore individually.Discussion:SWR from submerged vehicles is unique among emergency incidents because neither shelter-in-place nor self-evacuation are tenable options until the water recedes. "Reach" and "throw" rescue attempts are only possible if the victim is close to shore. Watercraft operations, whether motorized or manually pulled, can be technically complex, require numerous rescuers, and typically take 30-60 minutes per vehicle. Use of HWVs meets the CONOPS for SWR on flooded roadways since this strategy facilitates the rescue of multiple victims quickly while reducing the time rescuers spend in the water.

ABSTRACTAlthough increasing evidence suggests that children are at particular risk from disasters and evidence-based practices have been developed to triage and treat them effectively, no strategy or concept of operations linking best practices for disaster response is currently in place. To our knowledge, this report describes the first effort to address this critical gap and outlines a triage-driven children's disaster mental health incident response strategy for seamless preparedness, response, and recovery elements that can be used now. The national children's disaster mental health concept of operations (NCDMH CONOPS) details the essential elements needed for an interoperable, coordinated response for the mental health needs of children by local communities, counties, regions, and states to better meet the needs of children affected by disasters and terrorism incidents. This CONOPS for children proposes the use of an evidence-based, rapid triage system to provide a common data metric to incident response and recovery action and to rationally align limited resources to those at greater need in a population-based approach.(Disaster Med Public Health Preparedness. 2012;6:174–181)

Abstract (sommario):
The anatomy and the ultrastructure of spur nectaries of <em>Cymnadenia conopsea</em> at different developmental stages were investigated. The secretory epidermis surrounded the inside of spur and formed many unicellular papillae, which significantly enlarged the secretory surface. At the activity stage the epidermal cells contained characteristic plastids with well developed intraplastidal membrane system and numerous osmiophillic globules. The contact of plastids and endoplasmic reticulum indicates a possibility of the involvement of these structures in the secretory processes. The cell wall and the cuticle did not form a barrier for the secreted nectar and no pores or cracks were visible in the cuticle covering secretory papillae.
