Abstract (sommario):

The strength capacity of modular buildings is determined by the weakest part, and connections between modular units are often weaker than the modular units themselves. Thus, to verify the safety of modular structures, the structural performance of connections between modular units should be evaluated; the practical suitability of connection methods under a range of construction conditions should also be determined. In conventional modular building structures, modular units are generally connected using bolts between connector plates, interlocking devices, or steel plate welding. However, current methods are not technically or practically suitable for all types of modular buildings, such as high-rise modular buildings. Here, we describe a novel technology for connecting modular units to ensure the safety of modular structures. In this study, straight and cross-shaped metal connectors that use rectangular tubular columns and channel beams were proposed for connecting modules. Their structural performance was evaluated through cyclic loading tests by controlling the story drift angle in the width and longitudinal directions. The experimental results demonstrated that all specimens exhibited relatively stable behavior up to a drift angle of 0.04 rad, and there was a superior response in terms of energy absorption capability in the longitudinal direction results compared to the width direction. However, in comparison to the cross-shaped connector plate, the stiffness of the straight connector plate decreased as the drift angle of the column increased.

Abstract. Connected chaotic systems can, under some circumstances, synchronize their states with an exchange of matter and energy between the systems. This is the case for toy models like the Lorenz 63, and more complex models. In this study we perform synchronization experiments with two connected quasi-geostrophic (QG) models of the atmosphere with 1449 degrees of freedom. The purpose is to determine whether connecting only a subset of the model state space can still lead to complete synchronization (CS). In addition, we evaluated whether empirical orthogonal functions (EOF) form efficient basis functions for synchronization in order to limit the number of connections. In this paper, we show that only the intermediate spectral wavenumbers (5–12) need to be connected in order to achieve CS. In addition, the minimum connection timescale needed for CS is 7.3 days. Both the connection subset and the connection timescale, or strength, are consistent with the time and spatial scales of the baroclinic instabilities in the model. This is in line with the fact that the baroclinic instabilities are the largest source of divergence between the two connected models. Using the Lorenz 63 model, we show that EOFs are nearly optimal basis functions for synchronization. The QG model results show that the minimum number of EOFs that need to be connected for CS is a factor of three smaller than when connecting the original state variables.

Abstract (sommario):

One of key issues of designing connected structure is the design of the connecting body between towers. This paper presents the analysis of different connecting body design schemes based on a 202.15 m (663 ft) twin-tower ultra-high-rise structure connected by a connecting truss. The influence of height and type of connection on the entire building structure was studied by comparing storey shear forces and drift of structure. The results indicated that the connection type between the connecting body and main structure has little influence on the building structure performance. Finite element analysis of the connecting body indicated that the internal force characteristic of rigid connection type is better compared to the hinge connection type. Furthermore, the connecting truss design based on inclined braces connected by hinge joint is superior compared to the rigid joints.

Abstract (sommario):

The paper attempts to research the seismic behavior and mechanical mechanisms under repeated low-cycle loading of vertical connections in prefabricated reinforced concrete structures. Eighteen specimens were designed and tested, the test process and the mechanical mechanisms are studied, the seismic behavior of connections is analyzed, and the shear resistance formulas are proposed. The theoretical values based on proposed formulas are good agreement with test results. Under repeated loading, the shear resistance decreases, the connection ductility increases with connecting bar, but decreases with connection width. However, all the connections fail crisply with poor ductility. At sudden-cracking, the shear resistance increases with connecting bar, but changes nonlinearly with connection width. The resistance is composed of attributions of mechanism of diagonal-compressive column (MDCC) and mechanism of compressive friction action (MCFA). After sudden-cracking, the shear resistance is provided by weakened MDCC and dowel action of connecting bars (DACB). It increases with connecting bar and connection width.

Using three-dimensional modeling software to design a kind of swinging rear underrun protective device, using the Ansys finite element analysis software, in accordance with the provisions of GB11567.2-2001, the rear underrun protective device applied static load analysis. The results show that the protective device and the body in the welding and bolt connecting two different cases, connected by bolts can effectively avoid the connection of stress concentration, and support as the main part of the force. But by welding, the connections exist obvious stress concentration, may to cause the protective frame dropping.

A geodesic or net dome, also known as a Fuller’s dome, is a spherical structure. Geodesic domes are well receptive to asymmetric loads, especially snow and wind, have high aerodynamics, increased rigidity and stability. It should be noted that the larger the diameter of the sphere, the greater its bearing capacity, and the strength of such dome slightly depends on the building materials used. With significant advantages, the design and construction of wooden net domes has not become widespread. The fact is that net domes are spatial structures with a large number of elements, which accordingly entails a large number of nodes. The elements of the dome are connected with dowels, wet film gauge, bolts, wood screws, staples, screws, nails. Adhesive connections on washers are used, also steel clamps, straps, overlays are applied. However, they all have disadvantages, the scope of each connector is different, and their cost is often comparable to the cost of the dome elements. We offer a universal connector for connecting dome parts at any angle. As a result of introduction of such technical decision of knot, we receive essential simplification of a design, reduction of quantity of components, at the same time with increase of its manufacturability. To study the operation of the joint of wooden glue-board elements of the dome with the use of a universal connector, its experimental studies were carried out. The purpose of the study: to study the actual operation of the connection of wooden parts of the dome with a universal connector in the form of rotating fasteners that rotate freely on the draw bolt, to assess its strength and deformability, to assess the possibility of using such a connection in the design of spatial structures. To solve the tasks, a full-scale fragment of the dome was tested, which includes characteristic nodes with rigid adjacency of elements to each other.

Context. To reduce the computational resource time in the problems of diagnosing and recognizing distorted images based on a fully connected stochastic pseudospin neural network, it becomes necessary to thin out synaptic connections between neurons, which is solved using the method of diagonalizing the matrix of synaptic connections without losing interaction between all neurons in the network. Objective. To create an architecture of a stochastic pseudo-spin neural network with diagonal synaptic connections without loosing the interaction between all the neurons in the layer to reduce its learning time. Method. The paper uses the Hausholder method, the method of compressing input images based on the diagonalization of the matrix of synaptic connections and the computer mathematics system MATLAB for converting a fully connected neural network into a tridiagonal form with hidden synaptic connections between all neurons. Results. We developed a model of a stochastic neural network architecture with sparse renormalized synaptic connections that take into account deleted synaptic connections. Based on the transformation of the synaptic connection matrix of a fully connected neural network into a Hessenberg matrix with tridiagonal synaptic connections, we proposed a renormalized local Hebb rule. Using the computer mathematics system “WolframMathematica 11.3”, we calculated, as a function of the number of neurons N, the relative tuning time of synaptic connections (per iteration) in a stochastic pseudospin neural network with a tridiagonal connection Matrix, relative to the tuning time of synaptic connections (per iteration) in a fully connected synaptic neural network. Conclusions. We found that with an increase in the number of neurons, the tuning time of synaptic connections (per iteration) in a stochastic pseudospin neural network with a tridiagonal connection Matrix, relative to the tuning time of synaptic connections (per iteration) in a fully connected synaptic neural network, decreases according to a hyperbolic law. Depending on the direction of pseudospin neurons, we proposed a classification of a renormalized neural network with a ferromagnetic structure, an antiferromagnetic structure, and a dipole glass.

Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS) because of their high resistance to tension, as well as compression, are commonly used as a bracing member with slotted gusset plate connections in steel structures. Since in this type of connection only part of the section contributes in transferring the tensile load to the gusset plate, shear lag failure may occur in the connection. The AISC specification decreases the effective section net area by a factor to consider the effect of shear lag for a limited connection configuration. This study investigates the effective parameters on the shear lag phenomenon for rectangular hollow section members connected at corners using a single concentric gusset plate. The results of the numerical analysis show that the connection length and connection eccentricity are the only effective parameters in the shear lag, and the effect of gusset plate thickness is negligible because of the symmetric connection. The ultimate tensile capacity of the suggested connection in this study were compared to the typical RHS connection presented in the AISC and the similar double angle sections connected at both legs. The comparison indicates that tensile performance of the suggested connection in this study because of its lower connection eccentricity is much higher than the typical slotted connection and double angle connections. Therefore, a new equation is suggested based on the finite element analyses to modify the AISC equation for these connections.

This paper presents boundary conditions for lateral buckling of the H-shaped beams connected to columns by flush end plates which fall into the lateral buckling following the out of plane plastic deformations of the flush end plates. The study is conducted by the following procedure: First, the behavior of the connection is researched by the no buckling experiment under the cyclic loading. As a result, it is found that the relationship between the out of plane plastic deformations of the endplates and the bending moment at the beam end can be predicted. Next, the FEM analyses of the rigid-frame structures consist of the slender beams having flush end plates connection and the structures consist of the beams having rigid connection are conducted to research the stress conditions in the tension flanges and the compression flanges of the beams during falling into lateral buckling. As a result, it is found that the rigid connection is restraining warping of the beam more tightly than the flush end plates connection, then the maximum bending moment strength against lateral buckling of the beams connected by rigid connections is higher than those of the beams connected by flush endplate. We recommend that the boundary conditions for the lateral buckling of the beams connected by flush end plates should be regarded to be different from those of the beams connected by the rigid connections.

Overrepresentation of bidirectional connections in local cortical networks has been repeatedly reported and is a focus of the ongoing discussion of nonrandom connectivity. Here we show in a brief mathematical analysis that in a network in which connection probabilities are symmetric in pairs, P ij = P ji, the occurrences of bidirectional connections and nonrandom structures are inherently linked; an overabundance of reciprocally connected pairs emerges necessarily when some pairs of neurons are more likely to be connected than others. Our numerical results imply that such overrepresentation can also be sustained when connection probabilities are only approximately symmetric.

This paper presents an analysis of semi-rigid beam-to-column connections in which the beam is connected to column not at 90 degrees angle. Beam-to-column bolted end-plate connections that are subjected to pure bending were modelled by three-dimensional finite elements. Numerical modelling of connection covers the geometrical and material non-linearities as well as contact and separation between various components of connection. Moment-rotation M-Φ curves for modelled connections using numerical results are made and stress distribution in connection components is presented. The study shows a significant influence of inclination of beam and quantity and location of bolts on the joint rigidity.

Abstract (sommario):

A new detail is introduced for precast concrete beam-to-column moment connections. The detail consists of a connecting steel frame used to mechanically connect the threaded end protruding reinforcing bars from beam and column. The connection detail is made convenient to assemble where the erection method resembles that of steel construction. No idle crane time is necessary, since the connecting steel frame is designed to carry the beam's own weight. When the connection construction is completed, the joint functions as a moment resisting hard connection. The experimental testing program involved testing of twelve full-scale specimens in addition to a pilot test. Of the twelve tests seven are flexural tests, three are shear tests, and two are monolithic flexural tests for comparison. Modes of failure in the flexural tests were mainly due to rupture of tension reinforcement; however, premature slippage of the rebars may occur under certain conditions, but could be conveniently prevented. In the shear tests, diagonal tension crack failure predominated. If the connection parameters are properly selected, the connection will be capable of developing the beam's full plastic moment and undergo sufficient rotation before collapse. PurposeWhile an ever‐increasing body of research on business networks has commented on vertically connected relationships, this study embeds the horizontally connected relationships. Constructed on business network theories the paper aims to add more knowledge on business networks by developing a connection model including both vertical and horizontal connections. The model aims to explore the impact of connections on focal business relationships. It differentiates connected relationships on the basis of their vertical and horizontal natures. The purpose is to grasp the impact of these different connected relationships on the focal business relationship. The focal relationship elements are defined by commitment and trust, which capture their properties from the dyadic interaction and the two types of connected relationships.Design/methodology/approachThe paper tests the theoretical construction empirically. The empirical study is based on the IMP2 survey, utilizing information from extensive interviews with 138 firms regarding their relationships with important foreign customers.FindingsThe statistical findings in the form of a LISREL‐model clearly expose the impact of the horizontal connections and verify the validity of the theoretical model. It depicts that trust increase by vertical connections leading to increased commitment, thus strengthening the relationship while horizontal connection, on the contrary, weakens it. The facts also demonstrate how the horizontal connections impose effects on technological long‐term investments.Originality/valueMarketing researchers advocating certain theoretical views are thereby required to observe respect for the market realities with which managers are confronted.

This paper aims to investigate the influence of political connection on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expense in Indonesia. We use a sample of 682 firm-year observations between 2010 and 2015. Using the individual-level of political connections, we find that the political connection is an important determinant of CSR expense. The political connection effect is analyzed based on the different characteristics of ownership structure, board structure, and affiliated party. We find that state-owned enterprises and privately-owned enterprises that politically connected are positively associated with CSR expenses. Interestingly, the evidence shows that politically connected board of commissioners are more willing to spend in CSR activities, while politically connected board of directors have no significant concern regarding CSR. Furthermore, politically connected firms that contribute to CSR are from government-leaning firms, while opposition-leaning firms show different matters. The findings are robust using different measures of political connection and controls.

One design for a mobile offshore base is to link serially as many as five large semisubmersibles to form a platform long enough to support large aircraft. This paper investigates the linear, wave-induced response characteristics of serially-connected semisubmersibles. A major motivation of this study is to understand more completely the forces required to link semisubmersible modules. The impact of connector strategy and damping on the response, especially the connector forces, is investigated, and the response "modes" which contribute to the connector forces are evaluated in detail. It is shown that the response characteristics can be impacted significantly by the connection strategy, and that connector damping can be a significant source of energy loss when compared to radiation damping. The wet natural frequencies and normal modes are also determined and used to explain the response characteristics of different connection strategies. Although the analyses are based on a specific semisubmersible design, the results provide insight on how other systems of connected semisubmersibles would likely behave.

Abstract This article aims to examine the Korean connective -ko, which is generally considered an equivalent of the French connective et. The connective -ko is semantically polyvalent, having several interpretations such as enumeration, temporal succession, simultaneity, causality, and manner. In this article, we examine the expression of “manner” by the connective -ko on the hypothesis that such interpretation is derived from the temporal function of simultaneity of -ko. We introduce two main functions of -ko, temporal connection and simple connection by contiguity and then show how the temporal function interacts with the aspectual properties of propositions connected by -ko to generate the interpretation of manner.

Modern fasteners offer new options for the design of timber load-bearing structures. In the design, the traditional hinged connections are increasingly being replaced with semi-rigid connections. Nevertheless, there is no feedback from the actual structures with this kind of connection regarding the accuracy of static calculations. The authors therefore decided to test one connection and compare the results with those obtained from calculation models. The paper presents the experimental verification of the frame connection in which the semi-rigid action was achieved by combining the aluminium Sherpa connector and total thread Rothoblaas screws. The timber samples were provided by Latti Extra.

The LVL-concrete composite (LCC) structure is a hybrid in system which the LVL member is well connected to the concrete slab by a connector to produce composite action. Various types of connector with different stiffness and shear capacity are available in the market currently. The stiffness of the connector is identified through the push-out experiment. The notch connections for LVL concrete composite beams have higher stiffness and strength compared to mechanical fasteners. This paper discusses the experimental results of symmetrical push-out tests on 3 different types of connector, 150mm rectangular notch with 10mm diameter screw, 100mm rectangular notch with 8mm diameter screw and 100mm triangular notch with 8mm diameter screw. The experimental test was shear push out to failure and the type of failure was discussed. The 150mm rectangular notch was found to be strongest among all and low cost. The 100mm rectangular notch was found to be slightly stiffer than 100mm triangular notch but 100mm triangular notch is easier to construct with only 2 cut. The maximum strength and stiffness at ultimate limit states and serviceability limit states of each type of connection were discussed in this paper.

Autistic children do not consistently show conventional signs of social engagement, which some have interpreted to mean that they are not interested in connecting with other people. If someone does not act like they are interested in connecting with you, it may make it difficult to feel connected to them. And yet, some parents report feeling strongly connected to their autistic children. We conducted phenomenological interviews with 13 mothers to understand how they experienced connection with their 5- to 14-year-old nonspeaking autistic children. Mothers of nonspeaking autistic children represent a unique group in which to study connection because their children both may not seem interested in connecting with them and have limited ability to communicate effectively using speech, a common way people connect with each other. The mothers in this study interpreted a range of child behaviors—some unconventional, but many conventional—as signs that their children were interested in connecting with them, (re)framed child behaviors that could undermine connection as caused by factors unrelated to the relationship, and expressed several convictions that may help build and sustain connection in the face of uncertainty about the meaning of their children’s behavior. Even though their autistic children may not consistently act in conventional socially oriented ways, these mothers reported perceiving their children’s behavior as embedded within an emotionally reciprocal relationship.

This article highlights a perspective that has been underexplored in resource allocation research. By viewing resource allocation through a resource and capability lens, three connections are developed between resource-based theories of strategy and strategy research on resource allocation. First, the lens is applied to frame capital investments as investing in capabilities. This framing provides a theoretical path connecting the strategic purpose of investments, through value creation from resource commitments, to the creation of competitive advantage. Second, resource allocation for the purpose of capability development is related to a resource-based model of asset accumulation. Placing resource allocation decisions in the context of capability development suggests that key features of the asset accumulation process can usefully inform research on the resource allocation process. Last, corporate capital allocation is connected to resource redeployment in multibusiness firms. This connection explicates ways in which corporate headquarters can add to firm value. These connections illustrate the potential that resource-based theories have to contribute insights to resource allocation research.

This paper presents the test results of proposed grouted sleeve connections under increasing tensile load. The objective of this research was to investigate splice connections that could provide tensile strength similar to the full tensile strength of the connected rebars. The parameters varied were splice types, splice length and rebar embedment length. The performance of the splice connection was evaluated based on the load-displacement, ultimate load, displacements and failure modes. The results show that the strength of splice connection depends on the bond strength between sleeve-to-grout and grout-to-rebar; the tensile strength of spliced steel bars and also the tensile strength of sleeve. It is observed that when the grout compressive strength is more than 60N/mm2and bar embedded length is at least 10 bar diameter, the splice connection in BS series is able to provide full tensile strength of the connected rebars.

The connection components are designed in accordance with the 2001 AISC-LRFD Specifications and the 2005 AISC Seismic Provisions. In the suggested clip-angle connection, the structural beam can be connected to the column using six high-strength bolts. The slippage on the shear faying surface contributes to increasing energy dissipated capacity in the connection behavior. The design of the clip-angle connection should include these mechanical characteristics. Therefore, this study presents new design methodology that can be applied to bolted clip-angle connections. Besides, step-by-step procedures for design will be treated herein.

For ductile beam-to-column connectiosn in steel frame, beam local buckling is difficult and very costly to repair in any post-disaster reconstruction. Shape memory alloys (SMAs) in their austenite states have the ability to recover their original shape after experiencing large deformations. Steel connections retrofitted using SMAs can be endowed with intelligent characteristics. This paper investigates extended end-plate connections using long shank SMA bolts. The SMA connection is designed using a new methodology of avoiding beam local buckling and adopting the strong end-plate. The connection deformations are supposed to concentrate on the SMA bolts. In order to study the seismic behaviour of the connections, quasi-static tests were conducted on both the SMA connection specimens. The test results indicate that the connection can show high deformation capacity with the maximum interstory drift angles beyond 0.02 rad. However, the beam was remained elastic during test and the deformations of the SMA connection were recoverable upon unloading. The load-drift hysteresis loops are flag-shaped for the SMA connection. This indicates that the connection has moderate energy dissipating capacity.

Agriculture is a field of expertise that requires a lot of mathematical connection skills to solve various problems. Increasing the ability of students' mathematical connections can be facilitated by the teacher by constructing mathematical tasks in the agricultural sector. This qualitative research using the case study method describes the construction of mathematical tasks based on agricultural products and the mathematical connection ability of students in solving the task. Mathematical task construction is carried out by integrating agricultural product contexts and mathematical concepts. The mathematical task was used in Grade X Agribusiness Expertise students of Agricultural Product Processing. Data retrieval of students' mathematical connection abilities was carried out through tests, observation results, answer sheets, and interviews that focused on connecting contexts with mathematical concepts, connections between mathematical concepts, and connections to mathematical procedures. The results of the student data analysis showed that the ability of mathematical connections was hampered by the ability of the connection between mathematical concepts. It is necessary to increase student's mathematical connections by constructing mathematical tasks with various mathematical concepts.

The influence of the type of connection on composite mechanical properties (displacement vs. force characteristics) was analyzed. Cross-connection theory provides the construction of a semigroup from its ideal structure using small categories. A concordant semigroup is an idempotent-connected abundant semigroup whose idempotents generate a regular subsemigroup. We characterize the categories arising from the generalized Green relations in the concordant semigroup as consistent categories and describe their interrelationship using cross-connections. Conversely, given a pair of cross-connected consistent categories, we build a concordant semigroup. We use this correspondence to prove a category equivalence between the category of concordant semigroups and the category of cross-connected consistent categories. In the process, we illustrate how our construction is a generalization of the cross-connection analysis of regular semigroups. We also identify the inductive cancellative category associated with a pair of cross-connected consistent categories.

Electric supply system in enterprises must provide with electrical supply continuity and reliability as in normal and accidental regimes, quality electro energetic, production efficiency, so in connection with these in the article there have been analyzed work regimes of substations, studied electrical net scheme for Kentau Transformer Plant’s substation, calculated plant’s loads and short circuit currents and on the base of the calculated results curried out inspection for the chosen equipment. The number of connections, reliability of power supply and prospects for development are the determining factors for choosing the electrical scheme of high-voltage switchgears. You also need to take into account the need to conduct audits and tests of switches without interruption. In our case, we have four connections: two communication lines with electrical systems and two transformers. The distribution devices of the substation of the Kentau transformer plant are connected to the transformers according to a block scheme. Electrical installations are connected to the network transformer unit or receive backup power from another substation, since in case of failure of one network, both transformers can not work with the rest of the network. Based on this, measures are proposed for the reconstruction of the substation, with the replacement of the block diagram of the switchgear with the circuit for connecting the power transformer to the switchgear by a bus bridge. Offered measurements on reconstruction of the substation by replacing block scheme of switchgears to scheme of power transformer connection with DD bus bridge. Worked out main modernization problems of the substation switchgear, done calculation and selection of distributing bus bars for arranging switchgear.

This paper presents experimental and numerical studies for predicting the seismic responses of welded and bolted steel beam–column connections, namely, welded unreinforced flange and bolted web connection, and welded unreinforced flange and welded web connection. Cyclic tests of these connections composed of members applied widely to steel structures are conducted to examine their seismic performance. Numerical simulations with a focus on the bolted joint are conducted using a nonlinear finite element code. Two different strategies of modeling bolted parts are provided to improve the computational efficiency of numerical analysis: solid contact elements and more simply using shell connector elements. Numerical solutions obtained for full connection models are experimentally validated. The rotational capacity and dissipated energy of the welded and bolted connections are discussed. The local responses for stress and strain in the vicinity of welded and bolted joints are also investigated.

In this paper, the behavior of steel plate shear wall (SPSW) in the reinforced concrete frame (RCF) has been studied numerically. Three different connections have been proposed to connect SPSW to RCF. In the first connection, fish plates, while in the second one, combination of fish plates and studs transfer forces between SPSW and RCF. In the third connection, there is no direct connection between the infill plate and RCF, and additional steel frame has been used for connecting of the infill plate. The results demonstrate that, load carrying capacity increases in all the specimens comparing the reference RCF. Investigating the formation sequence of plastic hinges in different specimens demonstrates that there is different sequence in the specimens with different connections.

This study investigated the behavior of longitudinal plate-to-rectangular hollow section (RHS) K-connections to which concrete-filled composite branch members were jointed. At the connections, longitudinal plates with or without chord face stiffener were welded to the RHS chord member and the branch members were connected to the longitudinal plates by bolting (slip-critical connection). Cyclic tests were performed for three longitudinal plate-to-RHS K-connection specimens. The tests showed that the connection behavior was dominated by the plastification of the thin chord face and by the slip and hole-bearing resistance of the bolted joint. Chord face plastification was prevented or delayed by using the stiffened longitudinal plate. The strengths of the plate-to-RHS K-connections with or without the chord face stiffener, depending on the governing limit states, were estimated in accordance with current design codes, and the results were compared with the test results.

Many structural failures in precast concrete buildings are initiated by connection failures. To avoid such failures, the connections should have enough strength to join the reinforcement bars between precast concrete panels. This paper presents the structural performance and behaviour of a proposed splice sleeve connection using generic steel pipe. The connection consisted of steel bars with tapered nuts confined in grouted steel pipes. The connections were subjected to increasing axial tension until failure. The results show that the use of smaller pipes gives better confinement effects and provide higher bond strength. A short embedment length of about 10 times rebar diameter is able to provide full tensile strength of the connected rebars. As compared to long embedment length of conventional lapping of steel bars, the proposed connection is able to provide structural continuity with short embedment length.

Latticed shells and domes usually consist of hundreds, sometimes thousands, beam elements connected by rigid or semi-rigid joints. These connecting elements result, generally, very sophisticated, made with different materials and constituted by disparate connection systems. Recently, the stiffness connections were studied, numerically and experimentally, as one of the most important factors influencing significantly the structural response of space structures and domes. Very often, in the design process, the joints are assumed to be hinged or clamped. This assumption may result significantly far from the actual condition of in-service structure and components, leading to not understanding or not being able to prevent sudden catastrophic collapses (buckling, snap-through). Thus, the inclusion of joint stiffness reduction in the numerical model is necessary, more and more also due to the types of external loads, such as overloads that occur during the life of the structure or, especially, seismic solicitations. In this paper, the stability of an existent timber dome has been studied increasing the yieldingness of the connecting nodes according to an original approach. In addition, sensitivity of this kind of structure to the amplitude and the geometrical imperfections shape have been also considered. Numerical analyses have been conducted with local displacement controls, to take into account the geometric nonlinearity effects. Results evidenced that the dome is affected by instability interaction for particular slenderness and stiffness reduction of the connections.

Double L-stiffened plate or haunch is used to strengthen the connection to meet the requirement of the code for seismic design of buildings: The principle of strong connection-weak connected member. The two kinds of reinforced connections are simple and easy to construct. Using software ANSYS to research is done on the connection under the monotonic load and low-frequency cyclic load. The results show that: the reinforced connections have high bearing capacity, superior hysteretic performance, and very good ductility; when failure the deformation of the joint region becomes smaller, and the plastic hinge shifts away from the region so as to prevent the brittle failure of the region; the beam has a long yielding plateau, and the bearing capacity decreases not very much after the beam yielding.

Connection is an important part of the bamboo and timber structure, and it directly influences the overall structural performance and safety. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the mechanical performance of several wood connections, a new connector for the bamboo (timber) frame joint was proposed in this paper. Three full-scale T-type joint specimens were designed to study the mechanical performance under cyclic loading. The thickness of the hollow steel column was different among three specimens. The specimens were loaded under displacement control with a rate of 10 mm per minute until the specimens reach failure. It was observed that the failures of three specimens were caused by the buckling of flanges in the compression and that the steel of connections does not yield. The load-displacement hysteretic curve for three specimens is relatively plump, and the stiffness of connection degenerates with the increasing of cyclic load. The maximum rotation is 0.049 rad, and the energy dissipation coefficient is 1.77. The thickness of the hollow steel column of the connector has significant impact on the energy dissipation capacity and the strength of the connection. A simplified moment-rotation hysteresis model for the joint was proposed.

We also prove that the moduli space of the solutions to the Kapustin–Witten equations is non-connected if the connections on the compactification of moduli space of ASD connections are all generic. At last, we extend the results for the Kapustin–Witten equations to other equations on gauge theory such as the Hitchin–Simpson equations and the Vafa–Witten on a compact Kähler surface.

Abstract (sommario):

Family businesses dominate the private sector in Indonesia and contribute 13.4% of the country's GDP. The family company has a longer investment horizon than the shareholders because the founder wants to continue bequeath the company to subsequent generations. To achieve these objectives the company will try to overcome the company's external constraints. The trick is through political connections. With a political connection the company will get various benefits so that it will ultimately contribute to the company's performance. This paper is a literature review of family businesses and political connections. Based on the results of the study, the researchers concluded that the family company had better performance than the non-family company. Politically connected companies have better performance than companies that are not politically connected during the reign of politicians concerned. Politically connected family companies have better performance than politically connected family companies.
