Abstract (sommario):
The internal controls construction of a transaction system is important to management, operation and auditing. In the environment of manual operation, the internal controls of the transaction process are all done by manual mechanism. However, after the transaction processing environment has been changed from manual operation to computerized operation, the internal control techniques have been gradually transformed from manual mechanisms to computerized methods. The essence of internal controls in operational activities is the data expressions or constraints. The adoption of information systems often results in internal control deficiencies and operating risks due to the data unavailable in database for the data expressions of internal controls. Hence, how to design database schema to support internal controls mechanism is becoming a crucial issue for a computerized enterprise. Therefore, this paper referred Entity-Relationship model (ER model) in order to propose a Control-Data-Mapping Entity-relationship (CDMER) model by manipulating the required fields of tables to design database to support internal controls construction. Finally, a simple simulated case is prepared for illustration of the CDMER model. The contribution of this paper is to enhance the reliability of information systems through internal controls construction by applying the model to design databases.

Abstract (sommario):
Background Glycemic control is important to patients’ outcomes. However, the process of maintaining glycemic control is risk laden and labor intensive for nurses. Objectives To examine the effects of using a computerized insulin dose calculator to facilitate management of glycemic control for critically ill cardiac patients. Methods A prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted with a sample of 300 intensive care patients, 141 randomized to the calculator group and 159 in the control (paper protocol) group. A convenience sample of 44 intensive care nurses responded to a nurse satisfaction survey. Results A significantly higher percentage of glucose measurements were in the target range in the calculator group than in the control group (70.4% [SD, 15.2%] vs 61.6% [SD, 17.9%], Z = −4.423, P < .001), and glucose variance was significantly less in the calculator group (35.5 [SD, 18.3] mg/dL vs 42.3 [SD, 21.2] mg/dL, Z = −3.845, P < .001). Fewer hypoglycemic events occurred in the calculator group (7 vs 18), although this difference was not statistically significant. Nurse satisfaction was higher for the calculator group than for the control group (8.4 [SD, 1.4] vs 4.8 [SD, 2.4], Z = −5.055, P < .001). Nurses’ deviation from the protocol was also less in the calculator group than in the control group. Conclusions Management of glycemic control and nurse satisfaction were improved with use of the dose calculator. Improving nurses’ processes of care may improve nurses’ use of time and patient care overall. Studies with larger sample sizes over time are needed to determine these relationships.

Abstract:Serial ECG management and control of the comparison process should be dynamically driven by patient data. The functional architecture requirements are specified for a computerized ECG processing system integrating serial analysis. The concepts of reference investigations and temporal events are first explained. A conceptual reference model is proposed which stratifies the serial analysis process into a few generic strategies which will be instantiated into several types of serial comparison processing tasks as a function of the clinical evolution of the patient. This model is an extension of the OEDIPE core data model developed and implemented during the AIM #2026 project.

Abstract (sommario):
A new approach to automating the fault tree construction process is proposed. The methodology has features which make it applicable to binary state systems and also to process control systems. Previous attempts to model the failure generation in systems have worked well on only a small sub-class of system types and have failed to produce a generally applicable method. Thus in some previous approaches there are desirable features which are worth retaining in a new construction method. The new method is based on the flexibility of the decision table method but incorporates a way of detecting, classifying and analysing control loops, similar to that used with operators in the digraph approach. As well as using operators to deal with control loops a new operator is introduced that deals with two-state circuits. This will mean that when constructing the fault trees, the difficulty of handling repeated events will be eliminated and the size of the tree structures will be significantly reduced. The developed algorithm can produce a tree format appropriate for direct input to an analysis code. The method is demonstrated in this paper by its application to a simplified safety system from the railway industry. This system has been selected as it exhibits features that are typical of two-state circuitry but is also small enough to illustrate the new developments introduced.

Abstract (sommario):
Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Technology: Electrical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2013
Networked Control Systems is a control system where the plant and the controller exchange information via a shared communication network and the network is considered as part of the closed loop control system. Unfortunately the network introduces network induced random varying time delays and data packet loss amongst the communication network imperfections. The network delays are considered to be between the controller and the actuator and between the sensor and the controller. These network imperfections degrade the performance of the closed loop control system and result in closed loop system instability. The complexity of measuring the communication network imperfection in networked control systems makes it difficult for the control engineers to develop methods for design of controllers that can incorporate and compensate these imperfections in order to improve the performance of the networked control systems. In this thesis a co-simulation toolset called LabNS2 is developed to address the first problem of measuring the communication network imperfections by providing an ideal environment that can be used to investigate the influence of network time delays or packet loss. The software environment of the toolset is based on LabVIEWTM and Network Simulator Version 2 (NS2). A new robust predictive optimal controller design method is developed to address the problem of the destabilising effect of the network induced time delay between the controller and the actuator. The design approach is based on time shifting of the optimisation horizon and a state predictor. The design of the controller is based on a model of the plant with delay in the control vector equal to the delay between the controller and the actuator or to the sum of the delays between the controller and the actuator and between the sensor and the controller. The time shifting approach allows the design of the controller to be performed for a model without time delay. Then the control action is based on the future values of the state space vector estimates. The state predictor is developed to predict these future values of the state using the present and past values of the state estimates and control actions. This technique is made possible by the use of the plant model Transition Matrix. A Discrete Kalman Filter is modified to address the problem of the destabilising effect of the network induced time delay between the sensor and the controller. An additional state estimation vector is added to the filter estimate at every current moment of time. iv The developed methods are implemented for networked control of a dish antenna driven by two stepper motors. The outcomes of the thesis can be used for the education and fundamental research purposes, but the developed control strategies have significant sense towards the Square Kilometer Array projects and satellite systems industry.

The proposal for this study is to obtain an adaptive controller by feedback states for fourth order time-varyng multivariable systems or with parametric uncertainty. Alternatively the difficulties and limitations involving the usual methods of synthesis of optimal controllers for this class of systems, through the investigation of an algorithm based on particles swarm optimization with good tuning of parameters, we seek to define a flexible structure for applications that require decision making and online estimation of the feedback matrix parameters. The controller developed should provide, for every execution, not only system stability, but at the same time, provides compliance to the performance indexes set, without the need to perform complex and expensive mathematical calculations, eliminating thus the subjective components of analysis and design

In manufacturing industrial, for example, petrochemical plant, the promotion of technology makes manufacturing process computerization to be possible. The systems which control the manufacturing process are called Process Control System. Enterprises introduce the projects of process improvement to reduce the operation cost and enhance the product quality. It is necessary to have comprehensive information and technology to support the success of project for process improvement. Thus, it is a trend to setup the connections among Process Control Network, Process Information Network and Intranet. Due to the connections among networks, Process Control System is facing the threats of computer viruses, worms, attackers, and other malicious codes. Process Control System controls the manufacturing process base on the instructions issued from operators to maintain plant operations in a safe condition. Process Control System is the kernel of process operations. If Process Control System is being attacked or infected by computer viruses, the impacts would be the disclosure of critical business information, the failure of servers/workstations for monitoring process, or Process Control System fails totally that result in the plant operations with risky. The worst case would be an incident about pollution of environment, explosion, properties destroyed, or life lost. Therefore, enterprise should focus on reinforcing the information security mechanism of Process Control System to ensure plant operations reliably and safely. The objectives of this study are: a) To realize the challenges and threats that Process Control System is facing by the way of literature review. b) To discuss information security management related issues and resolutions of Process Control System base on physical, network, and servers respectively. c) To discuss the efficiency of the model of information security management that has been implemented in the enterprise. d) To make this study as a reference for related industries.

Polishing is the grinding technique which can produce the ultra-precision smooth mirror surface. The technique, directly or indirectly, is on behalf of a national machinery manufacturing standards. Belonging back end of line (BEOL) processing optical element production, polishing plays an important role in improving performance not only the quality of life but development of high-tech products. The domestic polishing technique for spherical lens has reached certain level, but spherical lens still have some problem like chromatic aberration and distortion. To solve this kinds of problem, aspherical lens, which cannot be manufacture by traditional polishing technique and can only be fabricate by computer-aided polishing, are used to improve image quality and decrease optical system volume. Computer-aided polishing is studied in this paper. Focusing on surface texture, association between polishing parameters and surface quality are discussed by material removal experiments. For computer-aided polishing fabrication, surface feed rates of polishing bonnet are not the crucial factor of surface texture. And, mid-spatial frequency error can be effectively eliminated by replacing one-direction path by multiple-direction paths. Values of surface’s peak-to-valley and root-mean-square can also be reduced. The cost of polishing process can also be declined at the same time. Hope that this research can promote the development of high accuracy polishing technique and domestic polishing apparatus.

Abstract (sommario):
Tooth wear is considered a normal, age dependent, physiological process that leads to the loss of enamel and dentine. However, in some cases the process is so progressive that it may be pathologic. The focus of this chapter is to present the consequences of advanced tooth wear resultant from parafunction, excessive masticatory forces, imbalanced occlusal contacts, and hyperactive masticatory muscles. This chapter also outlines preventative strategies that can predictably reduce the progression of pathologic wear, which employ the T-Scan 8/BioEMG synchronization module. These two objective companion technologies assess the occlusion before, during, and after dental treatment, as well as predictably control the long-term stability of newly installed fixed, implant-supported, or removable prostheses. Their synchronization correlates muscle activity level information directly to occlusal contact force and time-sequencing information, which when applied together in the wear patient can be instrumental in tempering and eliminating pathologic occlusal wear.

Abstract (sommario):
Breast cancer or malignant breast neoplasm is the most common type of cancer in women. Researchers are not sure of the exact cause of breast cancer. If the cancer can be detected early, the options of treatment and the chances of total recovery will increase. Computer Aided Diagnostic (CAD) systems can help the researchers and specialists in detecting the abnormalities early. The main goal of computerized breast cancer detection in digital mammography is to identify the presence of abnormalities such as mass lesions and Micro calcification Clusters (MCCs). Early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer represent the key for breast cancer control and can increase the success of treatment. This chapter investigates a new CAD system for the diagnosis process of benign and malignant breast tumors from digital mammography. X-ray mammograms are considered the most effective and reliable method in early detection of breast cancer. In this chapter, the breast tumor is segmented from medical image using Fuzzy Clustering Means (FCM) and the features for mammogram images are extracted. The results of this work showed that these features are used to train the classifier to classify tumors. The effectiveness and performance of this work is examined using classification accuracy, sensitivity and specificity and the practical part of the proposed system distinguishes tumors with high accuracy.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Hydro-Abrasive Jet Machining (HAJM) has demonstrated its suitability for several applications in the machining of a wide spectrum of materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, fibre reinforced composites, etc.). The paper is a contribution to the computer control, integration and optimization of HAJM process in order to establish a hierarchical control architecture and a platform for the implementation of a real-time Adaptive Control Optimization (ACO) module. The paper presents the approach followed and the main results obtained during the development and implementation of a HAJM cell and its computerized controller. A critical analysis of the process variables available in the literature is presented, in order to identify the process variables and to define a process model suitable for HAJM real-time control and optimization. Besides for HAJM computer control, in order to correlate process variables and parameters with machining results, a process model and an optimization procedure are necessary in order to avoid expensive and time-consuming experiments for the determination of optimal machining conditions. The paper presents the configuration of the cell and the specific components adopted in order to make possible a fully computerized control of the process, and the architecture of the controller, capable to manage the several logical and analogical signals from the different modules of the cell, for multiprogramming, process monitoring, controlling, process parameters predetermination, process condition multiobjective optimization. A prediction and an optimization model is presented allowing the identification of optimal machining conditions using multiobjective programming. This model is based on the definition of an economy function and a productivity function, with suitable constraints relevant to the required machining quality, the required kerfing depth and the available resources. A test case based on experimental results is discussed in order to validate the model.

Abstract (sommario):
For most of the newly built nuclear power plants, the computerized main control rooms (MCR) are adopted. The soft control, the typical feature of computerized Human-Interface System (HIS) in the computerized main control room and mediated by software rather than by direct physical connections, is comprised of safety and non-safety control interface which provides the operators with manual control for component-level, and allows both continuous control of plant process and discrete control of components in nuclear power plant. The safety soft control and information system (SSCIS) is used to give the safety commands to and check the immediate response of the safety process. This paper describes the application of the system design basis, functionality, communication, operation faceplate and system modes for SSCIS which is firstly introduced in CPR1000 nuclear power plant. The design criteria and basic design features of SSCIS is developed to be as the design basis of the design implementation. The ISG-04 ‘Highly-Integrated Control Rooms-Communications issues (HICRc)’ provides acceptable methods for addressing SSCIS communications in digital I&C system design. The NUREG0700 ‘Human-System Interface Design Review Guidelines’ is applied as reference for human factor engineering requirement in the SSCIS design. And the SSCIS design has also fully considered the possible customer usual practice.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background information Natural gas liquid (NGL) production facilities, typically, utilize turbo-expander-brake compressor (TE) to generate cold for C2+ separation from the natural gas by isentropic expansion of feed stream and use energy absorbed by expansion to compress residue gas. Experience shows that during operational phase TE can exposed to operation outside of design window that may lead to machine integrity loss and consequent impact on production. At the same time, there is a lack of performance indicators that help operator to monitor operating window of the machine and proactively identify performance deterioration. For instance, TE brake compressor side is always equipped with anti-surge protection system, including surge deviation alarms and trip. However, there is often gap in monitoring deviation from stonewall region. At the same time, in some of the designs (2×50% machines) likelihood of running brake compressor in stonewall is high during one machine trip or train start-up, turndown operating modes. Also, typical compressor performance monitoring systems does not have enough dynamic parameters that may indicate machine process process performance deterioration proactively (real-time calculation of actual polytrophic efficiency, absorbed power etc.) and help operator to take action before catastrophic failure occurs. In addition, typical compressor monitoring systems are based on assumed composition and fixed compressibility factor and do not reflect actual compositions variations that may affect machine performance monitoring. To overcome issues highlighted above, Hawiyah NGL (HNGL) team has developed computerized monitoring and advisory system to monitor the performance of turbo-expander-brake compressor, proactively, identify potentially unsafe conditions or performance deterioration and advice operators on taking necessary actions to avoid unscheduled deferment of production. Computerized performance monitoring system has been implemented in HNGL DCS (Yokogawa) and utilized by control room operators on day-to-day basis. Real-time calculation, analysis and outputs produced by performance monitoring system allow operator to understand how current operating condition are far from danger zone. Proactive deviation alarms and guide messages produce by the system in case of deviation help operators to control machine from entering unsafe region. Actual polytrophic efficiency, adsorbed power calculations provide machine condition status and allow identifying long-term performance deterioration trends.

Abstract (sommario):
The proliferation of commercial computerized systems to improve cognitive functions has helped many people, yet several key issues remain open. The current research focuses on the effect of feedback given to trainees in a computerized training system for visual attention. The visual attention skill was trained specifically to control temporal integration: a process in which a series of stimuli with a short break between them is combined together into one stimulus. Two training groups were compared: one with complete feedback during the training (Feedback group) and one without (No Feedback group), with 15 trainees in each group. The results demonstrated that the Feedback group’s performance was significantly poorer compared to the No Feedback group as assessed by the number of errors in new sets (measured during training). The deterioration observed in performance during training is not a common phenomenon. We explain these results by the theory of overconfidence. Based on the research results, we assert that giving feedback during cognitive computerized training can lead to undesirable consequences also in training, and should be re-considered.
