Abstract (sommario):

In September 2020, the U.S. Forest Service took the extraordinary step of closing all 18 national forests in California. The risk of catastrophic fire had become so acute that tolerating any human visitors—who could ignite more—was no longer tenable. Damages from the fires of 2020 are still being tallied, but the catastrophe is hard to deny. Five of the state’s six largest fires on record occurred in 2020. Migrating birds dropped from the sky by the thousands from some combination of asphyxiation, exhaustion, and starvation. An estimated 80% of California’s watersheds had recently burned by 2019, leaving them immediately vulnerable to mudslides. The smoke has become the West’s worst air pollution source by far. Proximity to national forests, long what homebuyers craved, is now a grave threat across the West. The outlines of the problem are apparent in the Forest Service’s budget. In fiscal year (FY) 2020, Congress spent $8.2 billion on the agency, 36% more than in FY 2011 in constant dollars. Almost $5 billion of that was on fire. As more people build in fire-prone areas, more has been and will be spent suppressing fires. A 2011 statute creating a revolving fund has consistently failed to cover those costs—leaving the agency to more borrowing from its regular accounts. The more research that has been done on treating fuels, the more unlikely it appears that we will treat our way out. Congress, it is fair to say, is hemorrhaging money on fire in the national forests with little prospect of improving.

Abstract (sommario):

The article provides justification and development of the methodology for modeling the recipe composition of health food products based on functional compositions. The basis of the modeling is the principle of food combinatorics, which consists in the justified quantitative selection of the main raw materials and food additives, which together ensure the formation of the necessary organoleptic and physicochemical properties, the given level of nutritional (food, biological) and energy value. Modeling of food products is the process of creating a product as a single integrated system consisting of elements that do not individually provide the specified properties. Conceptual approaches to the modeling of functional compositions and products based on them consist in optimizing the selection and ratio of ingredients, by which it is possible to obtain a composition that, in terms of quantitative content and qualitative composition, best meets the indicators of nutritional value and medical and biological requirements. The application of a mathematical apparatus based on the formalization of qualitative and quantitative indicators of the composition, nutritional value of individual ingredients and their combinations in the composition of model functional compositions allows, through simulation modeling, to determine the total content of an individual component. Taking into account the above-mentioned factors, the modeling results, as a rule, provide effective optimization of the product composition and parameters of individual operations of the technological process. Upon completion of the stage of multi-level experimental modeling, the functional compositions and technologies of the products are checked in laboratory and production conditions, after which their final adjustment is made. At the final stage, comprehensive studies of the main indicators of the quality of finished products, calculation of economic indicators, testing of technology in production conditions, preparation, coordination and approval of regulatory documents and organization of industrial implementation are carried out. The application of the design methodology of model functional compositions and food products allows to increase the degree of use of raw materials and expand the assortment of products with a given composition and properties for health purposes.

Abstract (sommario):

The issue of composition in the artistic creativity of people suffering from schizophrenia has not been widely taken up by the researchers dealing with schizophrenic artistic expression. Those who wrote about the problems of composition mostly referred to familiar authors with schizophrenic disorders in the context of the course of their disease. The article aims to approach the issue of expression's psychopathology specifically dealing with the analysis of one element of the artistic work. Schizophrenic disorders provoke troubles with process of the arrangement, selection and information integration characteristic to specific thinking disorders of the delusional type. It is particularly visible in the composition of drawings and paintings.Most often one can encounter compositional presentations that have an open configuration based on symmetry which is predominantly figurative in nature, with ornamentation and decorative background. In the literature available in the Clinic of Psychiatry at the Medical Academy and Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Lublin there also prevail open figurative compositions based on symmetry with richer or poorer ornamentation. The issue of the composition's specificity in schizophrenic artistic expression is hard to judge objectively as most of the available works are shallow, schematic, open and without any depth or chiaroscuro. Difficulties in analyzing the compositional rules that are prevalent among people with those disorders are connected with the lack of objective methods, which could be helpful in working on that artistic material.

Abstract (sommario):

The article reflects the results of the essential oils selection for the compositions with antibacterial and antifungal properties. The technology of their production is represented.The aim of the work was the development of technology and the study structure of new essential oils compositions with antibacterial and antifungal activities.Material and methods. The following plants have been used in the work: the herb of Hyssopus ambiguus (Trautv.) Iljin, the herb of Thymus crebrifolius Klokov, the herb of Thymus marschallianus Willd, the herb of Thymus serpyllum L., and the essential oils obtained from them. The composition of the essential oils was determined by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry. The main physical and chemical parameters of the compositions were evaluated in accordance with the requirements of the Russian State Pharmacopoeia, the XIVth edition. The tests for the antimicrobial activity were carried out using the strains of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Candida albicans ATCC 10231.Results. Compositions with an activity against microorganisms Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and fungi Candida albicans have been obtained and studied. The composition based on essential oils of Hyssopus ambiguus (Trautv.) Iljin and Thymus marschallianus Willd. contained 139 components, the main ones of which are eucalyptol (6.51%) and terpinen-4-ol (1.95%). The composition of essential oils of Hyssopus ambiguus (Trautv. Iljin) and Thymus crebrifolius Klokov contained 137 components (eucalyptol (20.37%), terpinen-4-ol (7.03%), Ʈ-muurol (2.28%), γ-terpinene (2.23%), β-myrcene (2.09%), etc.). The composition of the essential oils of Hyssopus ambiguus (Trautv.) Iljin and Thymus serpyllum L. contained 149 components (the main ones are eucalyptol (7.33%) and α-terpineol (0.9%)).Conclusion. The technology has been proposed and the structure of the essential oils compositions with antibacterial and antifungal activities has been established.

We have studied the weight loss during sintering and the resulting phase constituents and dielectric properties of a series of compositions in the lead-rich region of the PbO:MgO:Nb2O5 phase diagram near the stoichiometric composition of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN). While a ternary system of PbTiO3–Pb(CO1/3Nb2/3)O3–PMN was used, only the PMN component was varied in composition. The observed weight loss was ascribed to PbO evaporation from the nonstoichiometric PMN component. It was found that the sintered PMN compositions at about 1000°C correspond to the stoichiometric composition with varying amounts of excess MgO. These sintered compositions can be calculated by taking the Nb ion as the controlling cation in forming the PMN unit cell, from which the excess MgO can be determined. The excess PbO in the starting compositions, above the amount needed to form the sintered compositions of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 plus excess MgO, serves as a densification aid during the sintering process. Subsequently, the excess PbO is lost through evaporation. The peak dielectric constant of these compositions varies between 12000 and 18500, with the highest value attained in the sintered composition corresponding to stoichiometric PMN plus 0.229 mole of excess MgO. The optimum processing conditions for this composition are also identified.

Abstract (sommario):

The analysis of antifriction polymer compositions on the basis of polyamide, epoxy, phenol-formaldehyde, furan resins, and also on the basis of fluoroplastic with various fillers working in friction knots is made. The influence of fillers on the mechanisms of friction is little studied, so when creating antifriction compositions capable of working in conditions of lubrication in water, the following tasks were set: to justify the number and type of fillers; to investigate the influence of fillers on the process of wear of material and counterbody; determine the optimal composition of the antifriction composition that provides minimal wear of the coating and the counterbody. The object of study were: compositions based on phenol-formaldehyde resin and fluoroplastic, modified with antifriction fillers; details of submersible pumps. The basis of the study was the study of tribotechnical and technological properties of polymer compositions. Based on the analysis of literature data, the target fillers for the creation of antifriction compositions for radial plain bearings and thrust bearings of submersible pumps are selected, their number and composition are substantiated. The criterion for optimization was the mass wear of the polymer coating and the counterbody. The optimal composition of the antifriction composition for radial plain bearings, which contains: a mixture of colloidal graphite Cl and carbon fabric "TGN-2M"; molybdenum disulfide DM-1; powder polyamide 12 APN-B; crushed prepreg comprising a fiberglass filler impregnated with a modified phenol-formaldehyde resin P2M. For thrust bearings, the optimal composition of the fluoroplastic composition is determined, which includes: fluoroplastic F4; molybdenum disulfide; carbon fabric; powdered copper. The physical and mechanical properties of the optimal composition are presented. Technological equipment has been developed for the restoration and manufacture of plain bearings and submersible pump bearings. Molds are made for industrial implementation.

Abstract (sommario):

The effect of particle composition made of bamboo and water hyacinth on the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of resulted oriented strand boards (OSB) were investigated. Three layered boards were made from bamboo and water hyacinth in which bamboo strand was used as face/back layer and water hyacinth strand was used as core layer. The boards were manufactured using three levels of bamboo and water hyacinth compositions (50:50, 60:40 and 70:30) with 6 % isocyanate based on the strand oven dry weight. The results showed that dimensional stability of the OSB decreased with the increase of composition of water hyacinth strand on core layer. A higher composition of bamboo strand as face/back layer compared to water hyacinth strand resulted in increased modulus of elasticity and internal bond strength, but decreased the modulus of rupture. The bamboo and water hyacinth composition of 70:30 compositions showed better properties than other compositions. Key words: Bamboo, water hyacinth, composition, OSB

Abstract (sommario):

Context-aware composition of services exhibiting transactional properties poses several challenges. A major challenge is the transactional behavior of candidate services which is subject to perpetual change while the composition is running. Compositions of services displaying transactional properties must be dynamically adapted at run time to cope with context fluctuations. By dynamic adaptation, we refer to the ability to alter the composition behavior in response to changes affecting its execution. We focus on changes impacting the successful commit rate of transactional service composition. This has led us to explore the trail of a flexible homeomorphism between alternative behaviors. We propose a behavioral adaptation approach that adjusts the behavior of transactional compositions of services in a proactive and transparent manner. This strategy is based on the Profiled Task Class concept. A service composition generator has also been developed for the performance evaluation of components implementing the behavioral adaptation strategy in order to identify its impact on the commit rate of CATS compositions.

High entropy alloys (HEAs) are composed of five or more principal elements with equal (or nearly equal) compositions. In this paper, interdiffusion phenomenon in the HEAs is investigated. Two composition dependent (as well as composition independent) interdiffusion matrices have been used for detailed studying of the diffusion behaviour in CoCrFeMnNi HEAs. These matrices are calculated according to the Darken and Manning formalisms and are used in combination with the explicit finite difference method (EFDM) to obtain interdiffusion profiles. First, the interdiffusion profiles are calculated for the case of the terminal binary diffusion couple. A significant difference in the composition profiles is found between predictions according to the Darken and Manning formalisms. Next, the interdiffusion problem in the 5-component alloy is addressed numerically by considering the interdiffusion coefficients as constant, independent of composition, in CoCrFeMnNi alloys for several diffusion couples (mainly quasi-binary and quasi-ternary). The simulated composition profiles are found to be in a very good agreement with the available experimental results [1, 2]. It should be pointed out that the independence on composition of the interdiffusion matrix should be used for diffusion couples under two conditions: relatively small changes in composition, and the non-zero/non-dilute terminal compositions. The composition dependent interdiffusion matrix should be used in the diffusion couple if the composition differences are large and/or zero/dilute terminal compositions. In this paper, the Darken and Manning formalisms are used for modelling the composition dependent interdiffusion matrices. The purpose of this modelling is to systematically investigate interdiffusion in CoCrFeMnNi alloys in diffusion couples with substantial changes in composition. The main application of the present research is in the prediction of possible interdiffusion profiles in the framework of the random alloy model.

Abstract (sommario):

The article summarizes the features of free compositions based on the experience of modern world architecture, which, together with other methods, bring the scope of possibilities of modern architectural composition beyond traditional principles. It is proposed to divide the architectural compositions according to orderliness into the following classes: ordered composition; free composition; a combination of ordered and free composition. The features of free compositions are considered: complexity, diversity, the absence of a simple and clear regularity of the arrangement of parts. A free composition is perceived as a complex, spatial, diverse collection of parts and surfaces. Peculiarities of perception and awareness of free compositions, which differ from perception and awareness of traditional ordered compositions, are analyzed. Examples of modern buildings created on the basis of free compositions are given. The main trend of modern architecture, where free compositions were introduced, is deconstructivism. However, architects working in other trends and creative approaches also used free compositions. The substantiation of this powerful phenomenon, realized in significant buildings, is based on the creativity of such modern architects as: Günter Behnisch, Frank Gehry, Toyo Ito, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, Eric Owen Moss, Thom Mayne, Wolf Dieter Prix, Zaha Hadid etc. An approximate generalization of methodical approaches to the creation of free compositions is proposed: free compositions based on a combination of various volumes; free compositions based on the combination of various fragments of surfaces; free compositions based on complex surfaces with various sections; physically variable free compositions (transformation of facade systems or parts of the building); illusory and variable free compositions (media facades installed on surfaces or external projection systems, holographic systems); free compositions based on the use of means of alternative materiality (transparent surfaces, mirror surfaces, light forms, forms from streams of water or steam, etc.).

Burning velocities of binary and ternary pyrotechnic compositions are measured in gutter. The study focuses on the determination of the joint influence of several parameters: oxidant/reducer ratio, reducer granulometry, and binder content. Measurements are performed following the standard NF T70-541 for burning velocity estimation using an optical acquisition method. Binder content has a linear influence on the burning velocity with a pivot point in slope at supposed stoichiometry. Changing the granulometric class of metallic reducer shows to have different influences before and beyond a 20% diameter reduction.

AbstractThe growth of high-quality indium (In)-rich InXGa1−XN alloys is technologically important for applications to attain highly efficient green light-emitting diodes and solar cells. However, phase separation and composition modulation in In-rich InXGa1−XN alloys are inevitable phenomena that degrade the crystal quality of In-rich InXGa1−XN layers. Composition modulations were observed in the In-rich InXGa1−XN layers with various In compositions. The In composition modulation in the InXGa1−XN alloys formed in samples with In compositions exceeding 47%. The misfit strain between the InGaN layer and the GaN buffer retarded the composition modulation, which resulted in the formation of modulated regions 100 nm above the In0.67Ga0.33N/GaN interface. The composition modulations were formed on the specific crystallographic planes of both the {0001} and {0114} planes of InGaN.

For over a thousand years, frontispieces for religious scriptures produced in China were based on two basic compositions: the diagonal composition and the symmetrical composition. The two compositions enjoyed persistent currency by offering great flexibility for religious sects to fill in the compositions with their own patron gods and saints. Meanwhile they served different functions: while the diagonal composition illustrates the narrative of the scripture, the symmetrical composition focuses on the main deity and its pantheon, and engages viewer-worshippers in the assembly depicted. Daoism appropriated the two basic compositions and developed its own tradition of scripture frontispieces. This essay analyzes frontispieces for the Scripture of the Jade Emperor as a case study. By portraying deities of different natures in the frontispieces, Daoists specified the means whereby the main deity bestowed divine assistance upon the commissioners of the scripture, and distinguished Daoist scripture frontispieces from their Buddhist counterparts by placing extra emphasis on the frontispieces’ efficacy.

Deciding on Web service equivalence in process-aware service compositions is a crucial challenge throughout the composition life cycle. However, restricting such decisions to (activity) label equivalence is not sufficient for many practical applications: if two activities and Web services respectively have equivalent labels, does this necessarily mean they are equivalent as well? In many scenarios (e.g., evolution of a composition schema or mining of completed composition instances), other factors also play an important role. Examples include context information (e.g., input and output messages) and information on the position of Web services within compositions. In this paper, the authors introduce the whole composition life cycle and discuss specific requirements for Web service equivalence along its different phases. The authors define adequate equivalence notions for the design, execution, analysis, and evolution of service compositions. This paper focuses on attribute and position equivalence and contributes a new understanding and treatment of equivalence notions in service compositions.

We studied the effect of individual reagents and new compositions on demulsification of stable water-oil emulsions produced from the wells of Muradkhanli and Balakhani fields, SOCAR. The corrosion protection effect of three new compositions designated as A, B and C in water-oil emulsion, as well as the effect of surface tension on freezing temperature are discussed in the article. Composition A contained the reagents ND-12 and Alkan, composition B contained reagents ND-12 and Gossypol resin, and composition C contained the reagents BAF, ND-12, Gossypol resin and Dissolvan-4411. Physical and chemical properties of the oil samples taken for the research were studied by known methods. The results of the obtained laboratory experiments gave reason to say that mainly one composition, B, has the highest demulsifying effect. In addition to the demulsifying effect of compositions A, B and C, the corrosion protection effect was also studied under laboratory conditions. In this regard, water-oil emulsion was used as an aggressive corrosion medium. The rate of corrosion was determined by gravimetric method in both reagent-free and reagent-containing mediums, and the corrosion protection effect of the compositions was calculated. Thus, the protection effect of composition B was 98.1% in Muradkhanli oil sample, and 97.8% in Balakhani oil sample. Moreover, the effect of all three newly prepared compositions on the surface tension and freezing temperature of the studied Muradkhanli and Balakhani oil samples were investigated. It was established that the composition C has the highest effect on the reduction of surface tension and freezing temperature of oil samples.

The analysis of information about domestic and foreign installations of the volumetric fire-extinguishing with gas-water compositions is carried out. Pneumoacoustic sprayers of original design were developed, which make it possible to obtain a gas-water composition containing fire-extinguishing gas and water droplets of the ultrafine spray (10–60 microns). It is shown that gas-water compositions combine the advantages of fire-extinguishing gas and fine-sprayed water, since the volumetric method of gas fire-extinguishing and the cooling effect of water are preserved. The deposition (movement) of drops of the gas-water composition occurs together with the fire-extinguishing gas; therefore, the gas-water composition of the ultra-dispersed spray can be conventionally considered as a whole, i.e., new extinguishing agent. It is noted that the most promising is the application of gas-water compositions in the extinguishing of solid smoldering materials. In this case, when designing domestic fire-extinguishing installations, the amount of gas can be reduced by 20% or more, and the elimination of smoldering can be achieved by cooling with water from the gas-water composition. At the same time, the fire-extinguishing environment suitable for breathing for at least 3 minutes is formed in the room. The influence of gas in the gas-water composition on the dispersion of water droplets is studied. The sedimentation rate of water droplets in the gas-water composition was estimated. The droplet dispersion was measured by laser diffraction using the Malvern Spraytec system. It is shown that the substitution of nitrogen for argon or gas composition Argonite in the gas-water composition does not significantly affect the dispersion of droplets. Sedimentation of ultrafine spray water droplets in the volume of the room occurs within a few minutes. Nitrogen has the best characteristics for use in the gas-water compositions. Conducted studies make it possible to conclude that the installations based on domestic gas-water compositions allow for import substitution of the foreign analogues certified in Russia.

We have previously designed a phospholipid delivery system for chlorin e6 to increase the efficacy of photodynamic therapy involving a second-generation photosensitizer. Further research into the matter led to double modification of the obtained nanoparticles with ligands exhibiting targeting and cell-penetrating effects: an NGR-containing peptide and heptaarginine (R7), respectively. This study investigated the cell death pathway on HT-1080 tumor cells after treatment with the proposed compositions: the chlorin e6 phospholipid composition and the two-peptide chlorin e6 phospholipid composition. It was demonstrated that most of the cells died by apoptosis. Colocalization analysis of chlorin e6 in the phospholipid composition with two peptides showed mitochondria are one of the targets of the photosensitizer. An HT-1080 tumor-bearing mouse model was used to evaluate the biodistribution of the drug in tumor, liver, and kidney tissues after administration of the study compositions in comparison with free chlorin e6. The photosensitizer mostly accumulated in the tumor tissue of mice administered the phospholipid compositions, and accumulation was increased 2-fold with the peptide-containing composition and approximately 1.5-fold with the unenhanced composition, as compared with free chlorin e6. The enhancement of the chlorin e6 phospholipid composition with targeting and cell-penetrating peptides was found to be effective both in vitro and in vivo.

This research is aimed at analyzing existing plugging compositions and developing a new plugging composition based on phenol-formaldehyde resin. This paper presents the results of studies of a hardening composition based on phenol-formaldehyde resin for repair and insulation work in wells. The plugging composition consists of two parts: Component “A” (resin and additives) and Component “B” (hardener). A resol-type water-soluble phenol-formaldehyde resin was selected for testing. The resin was additionally modified with special additives to improve performance properties. A mixture of acids was chosen as a hardener. Concentrations of resin and hardener were selected to ensure optimal loss of fluidity of the composition for different temperatures. The main physicochemical properties of the plugging composition were determined. The elastic-strength characteristics of the developed composition after curing at various temperatures (Poisson’s ratio, Young’s modulus, and compressive strength) were assessed. It has been experimentally proven that samples based on phenol-formaldehyde resin do not collapse completely under load but undergo longitudinal and transverse deformations. As the amount of hardener in the system increases, the compressive strength decreases. The presence of the elastic-strength properties of cementing compositions based on synthetic resins distinguishes them favorably from hardening compositions based on cement and microcement.

The results of experimental studies on the initiation of compositions containing energy-saturated materials by high-current electron beams and electrodischarge plasma are presented. Experimental studies simulate the effects on energy-saturated materials of electromagnetic fields of natural and man-made origin. The threshold voltage of the electrical breakdown of the compositions during a high-voltage electric discharge was determined and the possibility of initiation of the compositions by high-current electron beams of nanosecond duration using a pulsed high-current electron accelerator GKVI-300 was studied. Four compositions were selected as objects of study: a composition based on potassium picrate, a composition containing ammonium perchlorate, a composition based on lead minium with zirconium and colloxylin additives, and ballistite composition SBK-3. It is shown in the work that the initiation of compositions by a high-current electron beam is potentially possible only for compositions with low ignition temperatures, ignition of compositions with high ignition temperatures is possible due to the introduction of a powdery nanoscale additive, particles of which have specific heat less than particles of an energy-saturated material, and ignition of ammonium perchlorate is possible only if the particles of the additive have lower thermal conductivity than the particles of perchlorate ammonium.

This article aims to explore the sociomaterial relational activities within digital music composition education via the posthumanist concepts compositionism and assemblage. The study is an attempt at a nonlinear and non-reductivist understanding of educational activities where matter, nature, and culture shape performative practices. Engaging with Latour and Actor-Network Theory (ANT) and its onto-epistemological manifest as compositionism, the explorations also find impetus from posthumanist thinking, Barad’s intra-action, Haraway’s becoming-with, and post-qualitative inquiry. Four Year 9 classes in a Swedish compulsory school took part in the composing activity and the research intervention. During a four-week participation period, the music composition lessons were video-recorded. Sociomaterial transcriptions of the recorded lessons were transformed into assemblage compositions to explore the outcomes and becomings that emerged. What these sociomaterial compositions brings to the fore is the hybridity of digital music composition outcomes in learning activities.
