Testo completoEncouraging pro-environmental behaviours is deeply needed due to the significant impact of human activity on climate change. Part of the population is already engaged in virtuous behaviours, but many obstacles are still preventing climate action. It is even more significant in a tourism context since pro-environmental behaviours tend to fade during holidays. Researchers are still struggling to identify an effective approach that could lead to long-term responsible behaviours. However, the literature dedicated to transformative tourism highlights the power of the tourism experience to encourage individual transformations. To broaden existing research, this doctoral work suggests that practices experienced during a tourism activity could be transferred to everyday life and foster pro-environmental behaviours. Our empirical material is based on a longitudinal and multi-method data collection from nineteen respondents who walked several days on the Camino de Compostela. Our results first enrich the understanding of the holistic process of transformation in the context of a pedestrian itinerancy through the construction of a conceptual model exploring the dynamics of this process, the triggering factors as well as the types and duration of transformations. Our results also identify that confrontation with frugal practices during pedestrian itinerancy triggers the adoption of long-term pro-environmental practices thanks to a mechanism of transferability that encourages the transposition of frugal practices from holidays to everyday life. These results not only contribute to the literature on transformative tourism and the adoption of pro-environmental behaviours, but also make relevant methodological contributions. Our research also has a significant managerial and social impact since we invite tourism stakeholders to design frugal activities that could convince tourists to adopt more sustainable behaviours in their daily lives. This would contribute to the collective effort towards sobriety.Key words : long-term sustainable behaviour, transformative tourism, frugal practices, transferability, longitudinal study

Testo completoThere is an emergency for sustainable development issues and questions around water are among most sensitive, symbolizing the problematic Individual-Collective articulation. We used the ecological approach of Environmental psychology and a method of investigation applied to 2 cities in France to study the Urban-Water relationship and the determining factors of the behaviors (of consumption and economy). The results show that water consumption behaviors (of consumption and economy). The results show that water consumption behaviors are sensitive to the town of residence and the characteristics of the home. The behaviors of savings in water are insensitive to these effects but are on the other hand largely dependent on the personal normative beliefs, the link Self/Others becoming particularly strong in the inaction. The behaviors of saving in water are also related to a specific cognitive process: the diagnostic of a depletion of the quantity of water with time. This environmental diagnostic is itself in bond with the specific beliefs in the preservation of the environment like condition of progress. This belief is closely related to the ecocentric attitude, itself determining environmental concern, which doesn't seems to be a factor of influence on pro-environmental behaviors. The values and the beliefs required to the instauration of pro-environmental behaviors are Transparency, Affrodances, and Environmentql Diagnostic to transcribe at the behavioral level what is in place at the attitudinal one
Rubens, Lolita. "Être engagé, informé ou hypocrite : Quels leviers pour favoriser les comportements pro-environnementaux ?" Thesis, Paris 10, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PA100089/document.
Testo completoBinding communication and the hypocrisy paradigm are two strategies promoting environmental behaviours. Despite a high adherence to the “ecological norm”, people do not actually apply it in their everyday life. Our research objectives are theoretical and applied ones. On the theoretical level, we compare the applicability and efficiency of the two models and state the most favourable conditions for their use. We examine in particular the role of persuasion in binding communication and the conditions favourable to observe a behavioural change in the hypocrisy paradigm. On a practical level, we aim at informing the professionals about the appropriate procedures they can use to encourage behavioural change.Eight experimental studies are presented in order to meet these objectives. They aim at different types of behaviour through different types of protocols (in or outside the lab). We measure behavioural intentions, behavioural commitment and behaviours among samples of students and general French population (N = 812). Our results show that some of these procedures are effective in inducing behavioural change. However there are not all appropriate to every context. We highlight the efficiency of the committing procedures on behaviours. We put forward a tool to permit the selection of the best procedure according to the context in which the intervention occurs. We conclude by discussing the theoretical and applied contributions of this investigation

Testo completoIn response to a backdrop of ecological urgency, sufficiency is gaining increasing acceptance at both the political and academic levels. However, this notion is often associated with negative imageries in a society whose model is based on growth and consumerist thinking, to which young people born in the late 90s and early 2000s have been acculturated. However, some of these young people, whom we have named the 'eco-concerned', feel that it is their moral responsibility to act to preserve the earth system. Using multi-method qualitative research of an interpretative nature, this doctoral research seeks to understand the meaning of sufficiency for these young people and the socialization processes that led them to become eco-concerned. Our results show that sufficiency is associated with renunciations that enable personal values to be reconciled with everyday actions and bring well-being by countering the eco-anxiety they face. Our data also show that socialization occurs in at least two stages, with peers and peer communities playing a major role. Our informants have a relatively bleak vision of the future and find it hard to project themselves into it, so they call for new imaginaries built around the respect for ecological limits and the development of new narratives around a sufficiency made desirable

Testo completoThe research addressed consumer characteristics affecting consumer willingness to pay (WTP) for renewable energy sources (RES). Three sequential studies were conducted, Study I compared the impact of attitude of Pakistani and French consumers on WTP for RES and, the next two studies focused only on Pakistani consumers. Study II examined the impact of risk dimensions on WTP as mediated by perceived value and moderated by consumer innovativeness. Study III investigated the relationship between internal/external environmental locus of control (ELOC) and eco literacy on WTP as mediated by pro-environmental behaviour. The results in study I showed that WTP for RES of Pakistani consumers was comparatively higher than French consumers. Similarly, the dimensions of attitude impacting WTP also varied between the French and Pakistani samples. In study II we found a negative and significant relationship between perceived risk and perceived value, this implies as the risk increases the perceived value of RES decreases and so does the WTP. However, the impact of psychological risk was consecutively higher than functional, financial and social risk. In Study-III we found, the internal ELOC positively and the external ELOC negatively affect the consumer's WTP. Eco-literacy turns out to be a strong predictor of WTP. Overall, the relationship between ELOC, eco-literacy, and WTP is successfully mediated by pro-environmental behavior. This research supported our theoretical propositions, contributed to literature, and provided academic and practical implications
