Abstract (sommario):
The current study examined trends regarding religion and spirituality among Jewish and Bedouin female students studying education and sciences at Achva Academic College, a rural secular college in southern Israel. The Bedouin women all originated from an isolationist traditional society, vigilantly maintained over many years. Contrastingly, the Jewish women come from a secular or traditional society, which is not isolationist. Science and education are two completely different worlds of content. Science studies include analytical research, with the students carrying out experiments in laboratories and within the community, whereas education studies focus on pedagogy and transfer of knowledge. The study employed a questionnaire with Likert items regarding religion and spirituality. We found the Bedouin students were more religious than the Jewish ones, but spirituality levels were similar. This finding indicated that the Bedouin students have indeed broken down the barriers to academic education, but still have retained their traditional community framework. Likewise, we found that the students of science were less observant of religious practices in comparison to those studying education, but they were similar regarding spirituality and the theoretical aspects of religion. This finding showed that practical aspects of religion can be a factor influencing the choice of field of study.

Abstract (sommario):
There were 2437 students enrolled in the Pápa Reformed College between 1815-1847 and, out of them , 176 were Israelite. Most of the enrolled Jewish students came from families of traders and artisans. 61,8 % of the parents w ere traders, while 8,4% w orked as craftsmen. The rest of the parents were doctors, surgeons, rabbis, restaurant-keepers, notaries, leaseholders. Even m idw ives provided their children w ith education. The minority of the children started their studies at the elementary school, while the majority at the gram mar school. Legal education was started at the College in 1832, which attracted youth mainly from the Transdanubian region. The reception of Jewish people from H ungary, Bohemia and Moravia testifies the openness of the College. While the colleges in D ebrecen and Sárospatak showed reservation, the Pápa College opened its gates before the Jewish people living in the region. Rabbi Lipót Low (1811-1875) taught Hebrew and French languages in the College for a while.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract: This article traces the crossings of religion and gender, American Orthodox and secular Judaism, teachers and students, religious educational institutions and the lives that inhabit them. Highlighting Jewishness and transness as intersecting forms of crossing, it explores periods of personal and institutional transition in the lives of Professor Joy Ladin, Yeshiva University's first openly transgender employee, and three of her former students. Experimenting methodologically with form and source, this piece combines interview with textual and theoretical analysis to link the Jewish gendered lives of its interlocutors—who emerge from different locations across the Orthodox-secular Jewish spectrum—with one another, and with larger communal and institutional forms of American Judaism they index. In doing so, this essay connects gender, religion, and education as intersecting forms of lineage, which pass through the interlocutors' and institution's historical and contemporary worlds. Activating crossing as a form of Jewish learning and queer scavenging, the piece enacts a method of Jewish institutional and embodied knowledge production that moves across lived and textual religion, articulating an alternate path through current struggles for queer/trans religious lives. This path does not opt to lose or loosen these lives from American Orthodox life and its textual discourse, but rather, it links them to both, and to one another.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractTheoretical reflection on interreligious questions can be deeply enriched by the praxis of dialogue. The article describes an undergraduate course in which the students and professor engaged self-critically in such dialogue both with texts and one another in the classroom and with local representatives of three religions in a public symposium. In the latter context, students' encounter of the religious “other” was sharpened by having students, rather than the outside experts, present the papers on the course themes—a feature that also stimulated broader interest among the college community. Such a course illustrates the value and the limitations of a dialogical pedagogy in which attention is simultaneously given to learning about both other religions and the students' points of view, in their distinctness and in their interaction.

Abstract (sommario):
For over two centuries, the College was the characteristic form of higher education in the United States, and the College was closely allied to the church in a predominantly Protestant land. The university became the characteristic form of American higher education starting in the late nineteenth Century, and universities long continued to reflect the nation's Protestant culture. By about 1900, however, Catholics and Jews began to enter universities in increasing numbers. What was the experience of Jewish students in these institutions, and how did authorities respond to their appearance? These questions will be addressed in this article by focusing on the Jewish presence at the University of Illinois in the early twentieth Century. Religion, like a red thread, is interwoven throughout the entire fabric of this story.

Jones-Wiley, Restori, Lee, and Ho (2007) updated and re-estimated the reliability and construct validity of the 1944 Levinson and Sanford Anti-Semitism Scale. Criterion validity was not adequately supported, given the small number of Jewish and Muslim participants. Two separate studies were conducted, (1)a comparison of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian religious groups on the Anti-Semitism score and (2) the correlation of political preference with the Anti-Semitism scores of college students and local community members. These two studies provide evidence supportive of the criterion validity of the revised scale.

Abstract (sommario):
The goal of this paper is to examine the role of participatory action research (PAR) in improving relationships in “natural spaces of encounter” where members of conflicting groups meet and interact. It describes and analyzes a project, “the Academic Puzzle,” that fosters organization-wide change in relations between Jewish and Arab students at a College in Israel. The project consists of 16 programs, all initiatives by College faculty, administrators, or students. Many of these programs, though not all, use PAR methods such as cooperative inquiry, dialogue, action science, action evaluation, and photovoice. The paper focuses on four programs which were explicitly designed as PAR. Furthermore, it illustrates how the Puzzle project is guided by a “self-in-field” approach that helps link these individual initiatives into an “enclave” that offers an alternative to the dominant field in order to transform it.

As we all know, college life is a buffer station for one to change from the role of a student to a socialized person.College students spend at least half of their school time in dormitories, so dormitory environment has a huge impact on one’s physical and mental health. The dormitory environment of most universities in China is not optimistic. On the one hand, some students do not flush the toilet and throw rubbish into the washroom.Secondly, some students talk loudly during the break, which affects other students’ rest.Thirdly, dormitory garbage is not thrown out in time, and the sorting trash can at the gate of school dormitory is arranged. This paper mainly studies through the use of cooperative game theory to attract college students fall over each other to participate in the volunteer organization, and then influence other students with poor self-restraint ability to change their behavior, so as to improve the campus environment, and college students a healthy, clean and hygienic dormitory environment.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examines the changes that took place in intergroup relations between Jewish and Arab students in three Israeli colleges in the northern Galilee, as reflected in common traits and behaviors resulting from their shared undergraduate studies. The study investigated whether and how the joint study experience influenced learning and affected intergroup relations for 461 students at different stages of their undergraduate studies. The students answered a four-part questionnaire on cooperative behavior, personality, and demographic traits, and one open question on personal feelings in the college. Results showed that year of studies was a significant factor in creating social ties with other groups, particularly during the third year when students from all groups were more willing to collaborate on study-based activities. A significant effect of object of evaluation (the group evaluated) was found, but not for most other variables and respondents. We conclude that the changes in social relationships are mainly functional. However, change in the attribution of personality traits may be a long-term process and may not be achievable under one academic roof. Possibly this difficulty stems from the Jewish-Arab conflict that hovers in the background and hinders any significant change in perception of character traits.

Abstract (sommario):
The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies suicidality, the experience of suicidal thoughts or behaviour including attempts, as an ongoing global public health concern. The WHO estimated that more than 79% of suicides in 2016 occurred in low to middle income nations, with 60% of these occurring in Asia. Suicides are often underreported and misclassified as death by other causes. As a result, obtaining accurate information is difficult. This problem is exacerbated in developing countries facing limited budgets, legislative barriers, and social stigma. These realities place greater responsibility on researchers to collect and interpret data. This study addressed this issue in a sample of 176 college students in Malaysia. The Suicide Behaviours Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R), which examines individual attitudes and behaviour concerning suicide, was administered and demographic information was collected on gender, age, ethnicity, and religion. Data were analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, version 25). Results showed no significant gender effects, but there were significant differences across religions. This is discussed in terms of buffering effects and minority-majority status. This study increases knowledge about suicidality among college students in Malaysia, a high-risk group. Recommendations for prevention and intervention and future research are included.

Abstract (sommario):
The story is a familiar one, found in nearly every narrative text of American religious history In the summer of 1806, five Williams College students met in a grove of trees to pray for divine guidance and to discuss their religious faith and calling. While seeking refuge from a summer rainstorm under a haystack, Samuel J. Mills, Jr., and the other four students consecrated their lives to overseas missions. This incident, later publicized as the Haystack Prayer Meeting, became the pivotal event in the launching of American Protestantism's foreign missionary movement. Mills and several comrades carried their vision from Williams to Andover Theological Seminary, where they created a more formal organization that eventually led to the establishment of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) in 1810. In the hagiography of missions, Mills is revered as the “father” of American foreign missions and Williams as the birthplace. Subsequently, Mills's “sons”—the alumni of Williams—followed precedent: from 1810 to 1840, Williams provided more missionaries to the ABCFM than any other American College.

Abstract (sommario):
This study explored the concept of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) in relation to undergraduate college students. The extensive research on OCB within traditional work environments indicates that while workers who demonstrate OCB usually receive more favorable performance evaluations, those behaviors also help build community and culture within the organization. This study expands the extant research by examining OCB of college students, where very few studies exist. For this research 490 undergraduate students completed an online survey, where we looked to identify correlations between OCB and four variables: gender, year in school, religious practice, and major. The statistically significant correlation between three of these variables and OCB will help faculty and student life staff identify and encourage OCB in their students. It will also help students be more successful in school, help prepare them for careers, while also enriching the college community.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction. Psychological and pedagogical support for the professionalization of a teacher should be based on modern knowledge in the development of pedagogical abilities. The most popular strategy for studying abilities is still the analytical approach, which does not allow to consider abilities as a holistic, continuously developing psychological education. The purpose of the article is to present the results of research into the development of the psychological system of pedagogical abilities of students – future primary school teachers in the context of continuous pedagogical education at secondary school, pedagogical college and pedagogical university. Materials and Methods. The survey involved 201 subjects, including students of the pedagogical class (n = 15), students of the vocational pedagogical college (n = 82), students of the pedagogical university (n = 104). In order to study the psychological system of pedagogical abilities, test methods, questionnaires, self-assessment scales, as well as an analysis of indicators of academic performance were used. The analysis of the psychological system of abilities was made by using systemic indices (coherence, divergence, organization), assessing the homogeneity/ heterogeneity of structures, identifying the basic and leading components of the system. Results. The uneven development of the psychological system of pedagogical abilities at different levels of pedagogical education was shown. It has been established that the development of the system of pedagogical abilities during the period of study at school, college and university cannot be characterized as continuous. Students of the pedagogical class are characterized by a higher organization of the ability system than those in college and university; for college students – their continuous restructuring and a decrease in organization by the end of their studies; for university students – a more stable and progressively developing system of abilities. Qualitative differences in the structural organization of the system are determined by the different contributions of the types of abilities (individual, subjective, personal) to its functioning and achievement of academic results. The organization of the system of abilities of schoolchildren is largely determined by the abilities of an individual, college students – by the abilities of a subject of activity and personality, university students – by the abilities of an individual. Discussion and Conclusion. The conclusions formulated in the research paper serve the basis for the organization of special activities on the purposeful formation of the system of pedagogical abilities in the conditions of continuous pedagogical education.

Abstract (sommario):
Writing something worthy of reading in a foreign language is a challenging task. Students learning English as a foreign or a second language suffer most in writing especially in paragraph writing. Although studies have been conducted to explore language errors in English composition of Pakistani students, paragraph organization errors have received little attention. Therefore, this study investigated errors in the unity, development, and coherence in the paragraphs written by Pakistani college students. Besides, the study also explored the factors that cause errors in the paragraphs. In this regard, writing samples of purposively selected 20 college participants were analyzed using error analysis classification by Liu and Wang (2011). Thereafter, five participants were interviewed individually through semi-structured interviews to explore factors that cause errors in the paragraphs of college students. The findings revealed that the students made most errors in paragraph unity, followed by paragraph development, and then paragraph coherence. Besides, the thematic analysis of the interviews revealed that cramming culture, excessive attention given to grammar and lack of quality feedback were the key factors that had affected the paragraph organization skills of these students. The study discusses implications for students and teachers.

Abstract (sommario):
In addition to its dual role of research and teaching, the academic world has assumed a third role ‐ social involvement. This is a common phenomenon all over the world and has become stronger in Israel in the last decade. This research addresses students of education’s views on this role and the implications of their studies in a change-leading campus to their self-perception as future educators. Three hundred and eighty-three questionnaires were distributed to Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Jewish students at a teacher-training college. The findings indicate that the students support the college’s social involvement and see their experiences on campus as important to their future role as educators in a divided society. The Jewish students, more than their Palestinian classmates, prefer to deal with interpersonal relationships, thus preserving the status of the social power structure. The Palestinian students, inexperienced in critical political debate, request tools that train them to become involved and critical educators. The findings point to the power of a campus with a critical-social agenda to help its graduates form an educational world-view that is aware of the social‐political context.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This study aims to examine the responses and perceptions of Israeli Arab teachers toward multicultural and educational issues concerning Jewish–Arab relations. Design/methodology/approach This study is a qualitative research. The study included 44 novice Arab teachers, who teach Hebrew in the Arab sector and are currently studying toward their masters’ degree at a teacher education college in northern Israel. The teachers were asked to read the novel Nadia by Galila Ron Feder–Amit. Published in 1985, the novel describes the complex integration of Nadia, an Arab village girl, into a Jewish boarding school, and it is narrated in first person. After having read the novel, the teachers were requested to answer the writing task, which addressed the character of the protagonist, the issue of teaching the novel in the Jewish and Arabic educational systems and the anticipated responses of Jewish and Arab students to the novel. Findings Phenomenological analysis of the teachers’ responses found that the reading experience was complex and resulted in a variety of responses toward the protagonist. Some were based on identification and appreciation, while others on criticism and judgment of the heroine’s restraint vis-a-vis the racism that she was experiencing. However, most of the teachers demonstrated moral courage and thought that the novel should be taught, as they viewed it as a bridge leading to understanding between the two nations. The teachers anticipated conflicting responses of Jewish and Arab students to the novel, according to the students’ political views and values. Practical implications These findings indicate that the educational system should include political texts relating to the Jewish–Arab schism, especially texts that voice the Palestinian narrative. This view differs from the current situation in both sectors, whereby the tendency is to avoid political texts while ignoring the Palestinian narrative. Originality/value The study shows that the reading experience of a political novel affords various and often contrasting responses with the teachers facing the didactic challenges. The teachers who participated in the study anticipated complexity of the reading and teaching process, yet were not deterred by it, particularly in view of the novel’s messages – striving to understand the “other” and to bridge a discourse between the nations.

Abstract (sommario):
Anaemia an important global health problem, which is categorized as one of the 10 most serious health problems by the World Health Organization. More than two billion people worldwide are estimated to have anaemia, with majority coming from the developing countries. Anaemia affects health of an individual varying from poor scholastic performance and cognitive impairment and even causes maternal mortalities. Percentage prevalence of anaemia among adolescent girls in the age group 15-19 years and in the older age group 20-29 years remains almost stagnant at 55.8% and 56.1% respectively. Young age period is formative years in life of an individual and crucial period for undertaking greater responsibilities including decision for study, to earn livelihood and healthy responsible parenthood. Protocol of study selection were prepared before the start of study and studies conducted in various states of India among college students and published between the year January 2000 to December 2021 were included. We searched Pubmed, Research gate, Google scholar for articles and 24 studies were included as per predesigned protocol. Analysis of reported studies shown high prevalence of anaemia among college students and more among female students. Subjects of most of the conducted studies were medical students. More studies should be conducted among Arts and Science college students. It is essential to conduct studies among college students to give not only awareness, but also warn them about health hazards and consequences affecting their day to day life.

Descriptive-correlation was used to determine the significant difference in the performance and satisfaction of the student organizations while documentary analysis was used to assess the performances of the same organizations. Employing stratified random sampling as sampling technique, and using Slovin’s formula to derive the samples, respondents were 244 randomly selected students from course-based organizations at the College of Business (CB) and Maritime College (MC) in AIMS, Pasay City. A validated, self-made survey questionnaire was utilized as data gathering instrument. Data were outsourced at the Center for Student Services (CeSS). To analyze the data, percentage, weighted mean, and analysis of variance were employed as statistical tool for the study. Based on the findings, Nautica Society and Marine Engineering Society (MES) had the largest student organization populations while members who are moderately active also comprise the largest number in terms of population. Performance wise, the AIMS Cyber Mode Society (ACYMOS), Culinarians Hospitality and Entrepreneur Fellow Society (CHEFS), and Junior Executive Society (JES) were student organizations that have almost complied with the required number of activities to be held. In terms of satisfaction, the members of Nautica and MES were only satisfied (WM = 2.7 and 2.6 respectively) with their seminars, community services, other activities, officers elected, and advisers appointed except for MES’ community service with fairly satisfied result mainly because there were no activities held by these student organizations for the previous academic year. PSCAS and NARCHIMES members were also satisfied because of the same reason above. A high satisfaction level was also given to the officers and advisers of other organizations namely CHEFS, JES and ACYMOS because of their active leadership on their respective organizations. Except for the community services rendered, there is no significant difference between the members of the different organization and their level of satisfaction in terms of seminars held, other activities held, officers elected, and advisers appointed. No significant difference was also noted in the performance of the organization and their activities.

Abstract (sommario):
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only created such a massive impact on health but has also drastically transformed the global educational landscape, and with the World Health Organization (WHO) predicting the pandemic to last beyond 2021, Higher Education Institutions across the country resort to various pedagogical methodologies to ensure the continuous delivery of instruction amidst the pandemic, including the use of Open Educational Resources (OER). OER have been widely used in the Marinduque State College since the implementation of remote learning modality in the institution. Given that this is the first semester that these materials have been widely-used in the college, this study sought to determine the perceptions of students on OER being used for their major courses, particularly for English Language Studies (ELS). This mixed method study considered the 2nd year BA-ELS students as participants, and the necessary data was gathered through a Google Forms survey questionnaire. This paper also aimed to determine perceptions of the participants on the learning materials being used for their English Phonology and Morphology course in terms of content, organization & presentation, and accessibility. Results reveal that participants have a general positive perception with OER in terms of content and organization & presentation. However, participants seem to struggle with its accessibility, as the materials are published on platforms that require internet access.

Abstract (sommario):
This issue continues a tradition in this journal of devoting issues to the broad theme of ‘Judaism and Psychotherapy’. It began formally in autumn 1982, but the journal had already explored the topic earlier with occasional writings as noted by Howard Cooper. The dedicated issues grew out of a series of lectures on the topic initiated by Leo Baeck College and were subsequently continued in collaboration with the Raphael Centre, a Jewish counselling service. The origin of this exploration belongs in large part to the influence of Irene Bloomfield z’l, who became involved, together with Dr Wendy Greengross z’l, in the establishment of a pioneering programme of ‘Pastoral Care and Counselling’ for the rabbinic students at the College. It is a privilege to be able to include in this issue a previously unpublished paper by Irene, together with Gaby Glassman, her partner in pioneering work on the impact of the Holocaust on the second generation of survivor families.

Abstract (sommario):
4-H is the largest positive youth development organization in the United States and is implemented by the land grant university system. To achieve program expansion, the century-old organization will need to recruit and retain millions more youth that reflect their increasingly diversified communities. Higher education has also worked to recruit and retain youth previously not engaged in college. This paper explores the hypothesis that there are lessons to be learned by the 4-H program from the literature on first-generation college students. Literature on risk factors and retention are presented for both first-generation college students and 4-H youth members. The two literatures are compared for similarities. Parallels existing between the experience of a first-generation college student entering an undergraduate program and the experience of a first-generation 4-H youth member entering the 4-H program were explored. Considerable overlap is found between recruitment and retention challenges in both audiences prior to enrollment/participation and during matriculation/participation providing considerable opportunities for 4-H and positive youth development organizations to identify adaptations to support first-generation youth members.

Abstract (sommario):
During the evolution of the twenty-first century, the increase in people’s material life level has also brought an increase in mental stress. For college students, not only need to bear heavy academic pressure, but also face the market competition after entering the society. Therefore, the psychological fitness instruction for undergraduate students has become an inseparable part of college education. However, in the current stage of mental health education, the quality of teaching is often difficult to guarantee. For the purpose of promoting the in-depth implementation of mental health education in colleges and universities and improving teaching effectiveness, one needs to analyze the quality of teaching in great details and understand the factors affecting the quality of teaching. In this paper, the mathematical programming algorithm is used to analyze the quality of college students’ Psychological Wellness Instruction. It deeply studies the development status of psychological wellness training and the basic composition and algorithm principle of mathematical programming algorithm. It integrates it into the practice of teaching quality analysis on the basis of linear regression algorithm theory. The experimental results show that the highest confidence interval of teachers’ teaching organization, cognitive level, and students’ participation level in the mental health course has reached more than 80.00%. This shows the importance of these three factors to the improvement of teaching quality. In order to enhance the quality of college students’ psychological wellness training, it is necessary to innovate the form of classroom organization and the degree of interaction between students and the classroom.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The recent motion picture Selma infused fresh interest – and controversy – into the political and emotional peak of America’s modern Civil Rights Movement. Ava DuVernay, the film’s director, faced criticism for her exclusion of the Jewish presence from the movie’s portrayal of the March 21, 1965 Voting Rights March. The recent attention presents a teachable moment and new energy for thinking deeply about this pivotal event in America’s past. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The authors provide valuable historical domain knowledge surrounding the 1965 Voting Rights March, present the requisite plans and curriculum resources for implementing wise-practice instructional strategies, and explore the rationale underpinning the inquiry-based activities. Findings The authors share innovative approaches, at the secondary and elementary levels, integrating historical domain knowledge with renewed interest in the 1965 Voting Rights March to create powerful teaching-and-learning experiences. The approaches are innovative because they contain dynamic curriculum materials and reflect wise-practice use of historical photographs within the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards. Practical implications The approaches shared here are centered around questioning, a key to student learning. The lessons feature the development of questions, both from teachers and students, as classes work collaboratively to interpret a potentially powerful historical photograph and use historical events to practice thinking deeply about important topics. Originality/value Social studies classrooms are ideal educational spaces to develop and practice the analytical skills and dispositions students need to meet the challenge of critiquing visual information that concerns complex public issues, such as the role of religion in society.

Abstract (sommario):
Student organization is considered an important approach for the sustainable development of ideological and political education, and it helps construct learning style and campus culture. This research studies college students’ motivations for their involvement and exit behaviors. Using a binary choice model, we analyze critical factors affecting the involvement and exit behaviors of college students based on social cognition theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and expectancy theory. On the one hand, our results show active cognition is most influential for the involvement behavior, followed by personal interest. Meanwhile, active cognition is positively affected by mother’s higher education level and senior students’ influence. Respondents who agree that joining organizations brings closer relations with teachers and other students as well as promoting heterosexual communication are more likely to join. On the other hand, the most influential factor for the exit behavior is unclear promotion mechanisms. Low-quality activities and wasting time with organizations cause students to quit. Moreover, lack of training opportunities and professional guidance dampens members’ enthusiasm. Complicated interpersonal relations, bureaucratic style, entering a higher grade and changing psychology cause some members to quit and further affect organizational learning. We provide additional insights on management strategies towards organization sustainability, such as improving leader selection and building harmonious interpersonal relations.

Abstract (sommario):
Despite the distance between their different communities and the difficulties of medieval travel, the Jews of northern Europe developed typical common legal and communal traditions. Rabbinic students traveled hundreds of kilometers to study with famous rabbis, rabbis themselves often relocated from one community to another, and questions were regularly sent to faraway rabbinic authorities and were quickly answered. This article sheds light on the movement and communication patterns of medieval Jewish scholars as a social group. It includes three sections; the first focuses on the movement patterns of prominent rabbis, the second on their forms of communication, and the third on the way these practices were reflected in the organization of larger communal structures. Overall, the article highlights the major role that networks of movement and communication played in the intellectual culture of the rabbinic elite (and other Jews as well) in high medieval northern Europe.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examines how far the establishment of an ultra-orthodox (Haredi) women-only curriculum and learning environment crafted for their needs, such as supplementary Biblical studies, fosters students’ enrollment and achievement in STEM. The methodology utilizes interviews with administrators accompanied by a Google questionnaire surveying students in order to compare the secular Azrieli College of Engineering with its new ultra-orthodox branch, Tmura Seminary, which aims to promote the acquisition by ultra-orthodox Jewish women of an engineering diploma so that they can find employment in the job market. This objective is significant because the ultra-orthodox community in Israel represents a unique family setting in which the men devote most of their workday to Judaic studies while the women are the breadwinners. The findings of the current study show that addressing the higher education gender gap by purposeful efforts to include ultra-orthodox women is indeed feasible. Still, it remains a challenging endeavor because besides being first-generation students subject to religious constraints, Haredi students are insufficiently prepared in mathematics and English before arriving at the campus, which requires that they participate in an intensive pre-academic preparatory program. The analysis of results showed differences between ultra-orthodox and secular students in their motivation for study, sources of information about suitable education institutions, balancing work and family life priorities, financial need for scholarships, and career path, which is directed toward finding a job in the high-tech industry rather than continuing after graduation to pursue a Master-level degree.

Abstract (sommario):
Project-based learning (PBL)originated in the 1950s and has been widely applied to the education field. After reviewing previous research, this paper found that in input classes: 1) The ability to retrieve and read academic papers, critical thinking, analytical abilities, team organization and coordinated ability of students have been shown to improve. 2) There are still existing weaknesses such as task building and requirements on basic English level. In output classes, the paper found that: 1) The reading skills of undergraduates enhanced and the ability to use vocabulary and grammar correctly gained great progress. 2) Learners lack of motivation is still a problem. Moreover, this paper also provided some possible research directions for future PBL studies, and they could address some solutions or could develop comparative studies of PBL application in different countries. In this paper, college English classes in China will be divided into input classes and output classes. The ability to retrieve and read academic papers, critical thinking, analytical abilities, team organization and coordinated ability of students have been shown to improve, but there are also existing weaknesses such as tasking building and requirements on basic English level in the PBL applied input English courses in Chinese colleges. Likewise, the application of PBL in output classes has shown that not only have the reading skills of undergraduates enhanced, but the ability to use vocabulary and grammar correctly has also gained great progress. However, learners lack of motivation is still a problem, according to which there are also solutions at the end of this paper trying to solve the existing problems found in the application of the PBL model in Chinese English courses.

Lastly, change of environment. Furthermore, appropriate behavior in managing the stress brought by the new normal education will make studying lighter and enjoyable. Recommendations as regards coping mechanisms were submitted to the administrators to further.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of a two-week pre-anatomy and physiology workshop intended to contribute to student success in anatomy and physiology. The study showed that workshop participants had significantly higher post-test scores, better study habits, and generally felt more confident or prepared for anatomy and physiology. The workshop participants also reported that they understood membrane transport the least and organization of the body the most, information that may be useful in anatomy and physiology curriculum development. Preliminary studies also show that students that participated in the workshop performed significantly better than the general student body, with lower attrition rates in anatomy and physiology.

Abstract (sommario):
Сделан вывод о том, что качестве наиболее эффективных подходов формирования данной компетенции следует выделить: пациент-ориентированный, практикоориентированный, наставничество, применение информационных технологий, системно-деятельностный. the article discusses approaches to developing the competencies of medical college students to prepare patients for diagnostic studies. It has been determined that the organization of student training in real conditions, where there are opportunities to observe the work of specialists involved in diagnostic research, is important for solving educational problems. It is noted that the relevance of developing the competence of future nurses to prepare patients for diagnostic studies is due to the need to master communication skills with patients, the presence of a high percentage of medical and diagnostic errors, the not always correct, responsible and conscientious attitude of the patients themselves to prepare for a diagnostic study, insufficient development of practical teaching methods that do not allow the development of skills in preparing patients for diagnostic studies. It was revealed that the future graduate must have communication, psychological, socio-pedagogical and even pedagogical skills. It was concluded that the most effective approaches to developing this competence should be: patient-oriented, practice-oriented, mentoring, the use of information technology, and systemic activity.

Abstract (sommario):
A Review of: Knapp, P. B. (1966). The Monteith College library experiment. New York, NY: Scarecrow Press. Objective — To create a college-level, four-year plan of library instruction in which assignments directly relate to students' course work. To develop tools to assess the plan's effectiveness in improving students' library skills and contributing to their overall academic success. Design — Exploratory longitudinal cohort study employing pilot library assignments, interviews, and questionnaires. Setting — Monteith College, one of eleven colleges at Wayne State University. Monteith was a small liberal arts college established in 1959 which stressed innovative teaching methods such as team-teaching, small-group discussion, and independent study (Worrell, 2002). Subjects — Teaching faculty from all three college divisions–social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities–and students at Monteith College. Over the course of the study the college employed between 15 and 30 faculty members and enrolled 300 to700 students. Methods — The project team consisted of project director Patricia Knapp, a project librarian, and a project research analyst. The team worked with the teaching faculty to develop course-related library assignments. Students completed a series of assignments over several semesters as part of their course requirements. The assignment series changed over the course of the project. Students who entered in the fall of 1959 or the spring of 1960 completed Sequence A consisting of six assignments. Students who entered in the fall of 1960 completed Sequence B, six assignments that were a mixture of original and revised assignments. Students who entered in the spring or fall of 1961 completed two revised library assignments. In the summer of 1961, the investigators conducted the first of two small studies. They interviewed a random sample of 21 Monteith students about their experiences with the library and the required library assignments. The students also completed library performance tests such as choosing a subject heading to match a topic or deciphering an entry in a periodical index. This allowed the investigators to compare different measures of library competence and get feedback on the library assignments. In the summer of 1962, the investigators conducted a second small study of 40 Monteith students. The investigators evaluated the tests and other tools used in the first study. The investigators then analyzed student and faculty data collected from Sequences A, B, and C, and from the two sample studies. Data included faculty interviews and feedback from student participants in the sample studies. The investigators also analyzed questionnaire data and the completed student assignments. They analyzed data using nonparametric, small sample statistics. Main Results — Knapp's results helped shape the final plan of instruction and assessment presented in her book-length published report The Monteith College Library Experiment. It should be stated again that the project objective was not to implement a plan of instruction and assessment but simply to develop one. One of the most important findings was that small sample studies can effectively test the reliability of library assignments. The sample studies allowed the team to "...define and measure library competence and to identify factors associated with its achievement" (Knapp, 1966, p. 17). On a different level, the project offered insight into the faculty-librarian relationship. The investigators found that faculty resisted librarian input into their courses. They also discovered that the most effective group size for developing library assignments was a small group of two to four people, but this sized group was conducive to informal meetings in which key players, often the librarian, were left out. When faculty did not share in decision-making, project morale was low. The project team reorganized and reassigned roles, and the project ran more smoothly. Knapp also learned about the faculty-student relationship. Knapp felt that some faculty simply passed on their knowledge to students rather than teaching students how to acquire it for themselves (Worrell, 2002). She found that student enthusiasm mirrored faculty enthusiasm about library assignments. Early in the project, faculty members presented library assignments to their students. The investigators discerned that both students and faculty were more amenable to the assignments when a librarian presented them and explained their purpose. Knapp (2000) agreed with Bruner who stated in The Process of Education that context is important when teaching any skill; students need to be able to relate the skills they are learning to the importance of why they are learning them (1960). Finally, Knapp learned that students need more than to understand library organization (such as cataloging and classification systems). Students also need to understand "the organization of scholarly communication" to foster true library competence (Knapp, 1966, p. 81). Whereas library organization concerns itself with subject and form, the organization of scholarship "reflect[s] discipline, 'school,' concept, and method" (Knapp, 2000, p. 10). Conclusion — The Monteith College Library Experiment ended in 1962 with a thoughtfully planned and tested program of library instruction. The final proposed program included 10 library assignments that were: of increasing complexity and aligned with the curriculum; intellectual with a focus on problem-solving; and feasible within the library's parameters. Students would complete one or more of the assignments each semester for four years as part of specific course requirements. Knapp noted the program could be adapted to any college curriculum. It would require six years for implementation and assessment. This includes an initial year for planning in which teaching faculty and librarians would collaboratively develop course-related library assignments, four years for student completion of assignments, and a sixth year for assessment. Knapp outlined three levels of assessment. Investigators would assess the appropriateness of individual assignments through interviews and questionnaires collected from faculty and students, as well as completed student assignments. Knapp outlined two ways to assess library competence. First, Monteith faculty members would assess literature reviews in their subject specialties written by second semester seniors. Next, faculty from other Wayne State colleges would review papers from both Monteith and non-Monteith students to comparatively assess the students' use of sources. Knapp proposed that faculty judgment would be the most valuable measure of the relationship between library competence and overall academic success. Knapp was prepared to implement her plan of instruction using all of her findings, but her proposal to move into phase two of the project was rejected by both the Office of Education, whose members cited economic reasons, and the Council on Library Resources, whose members were not satisfied that faculty were invested in the idea of curriculum-integrated library instruction (Worrell, 2002).

Abstract (sommario):
Tobacco consumption is a major global health issue that contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality rates. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over five million deaths occur each year due to tobacco use, projected to rise to 8 million by 2030. Furthermore, current research reveals that 47% of males and 12% of females worldwide smoke. Of particular concern is cigarette and tobacco use among medical students, given their role in crafting public health policy and guiding society's tobacco prevention measures. Studies show that smoking rates among medical students in developing countries are between 16-21%, with multi-country surveys in countries like Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh indicating rates between 6.7% and 17.8%. For example, a study conducted on medical students in Damascus University Faculty of Medicine revealed a 10.9% prevalence of cigarette smoking, 23.5% for water pipe, and 7.3% for both, with higher rates reported among final-year students. Likewise, a study of Rawalpindi Medical College students found that 24% had smoked at least once, with greater prevalence among hostellites rather than day scholar students.
