The root cause of moral barrenness and crisis of our character is our indifference from history and disharmony with our culture.

Abstract The interpretation of civilization has always been controversial, and it is even difficult for academic circles to distinguish between civilization and culture. Researchers often use the method of scientific induction to generalize and define civilization from their respective angles. In fact, the concept of civilization is very complicated and difficult to explain from a single perspective. This article attempts to explore the multiple interpretations of civilization from the forward and reverse interaction of civilization development, different perspectives of civilization interpretation such as history, literature, and language, and the problem consciousness of civilization interpretation. From the perspective of history, civilization is formed by a series of specific historic events and social changes. From that of literature, civilization transcends specific historical events, is formed in the process of replacing old and new societies, and is of universal significance. Interpreted from the perspective of language signs, civilization is only an expression of human language signs, which are carriers of civilization, etc. As human society continues to develop, the interpretation of civilization continues to change. The meaning of civilization cannot be determined. We can only approach it through constant questioning and exploration. Because the understanding of civilization is multi-perspective, the interpretation of civilization is dynamic.

Studying British and American literature aids students in using cross-cultural perspectives to distinguish Chinese and foreign literature and culture. Abstract (sommario):

This historical study aims to see how history is relevant to the achievements of the progress of the civilization of the archipelago through the study of sociological science. For this reason, we have searched literature from several well-known journals. Next, we analyzed the literature to find data that could answer the questions of this study as much as possible. The data study starts with a coding system study and a specific evaluation to answer study questions with high validity elements. The journals we have visited include Google Books, Elsevier, Academic docs, and other publishers published ten years ago. Based on the discussion data, we can conclude that there is a very close relevance between the history of the Indonesian nation and the progress of civilization in the archipelago, which is now dominated by the influence of Islamic civilization and westernization. We hope this finding is helpful for future studies of Indonesian historical literature and civilization.

Abstract (sommario):

The concept of civilizations plays an important role in the current scientific literature. Some authors select a particular number of civilizations. For other authors it is an open question how many civilizations exist: the answer depends on the criteria applied. The paper discusses the concept of the borderland civilization that relates to the countries (space) and people (cultural communities living in this space), situated “between” the two “key cultural groupings” (in Samuel Huntington's sense) and inevitably combines some features from both of them. The author argues that, firstly, the population on today's Polish‐Lithuanian‐Belarusian border constitutes a particular borderland civilization where the local identity dominates over national or ethnic identities. Although other identities might be in use here, the population of this borderland region primarily considers itself as “local” where multi‐ethnic, multi‐cultural and multi‐religious communities have existed for centuries. Secondly, the current Belarus itself can be viewed as a case of a borderland subcivilization: throughout its history it has been constantly influenced by Latin (Western) and Byzantine (Eastern) civilizations that resulted in Belarusian cultural pluralism, high level of religious and ethnic tolerance, and local self‐identification of the population. Therefore, there is no “choice” for Belarus to belong to one “pure” civilization: it is destined to exist in the borderland. From this approach, current Belarus is not “civilization outskirts”: it is a sub‐civilization with all the attributes such as culture, values, ideas of history, and supra‐national socio‐cultural community of people.

Nahdlatul Ulama University Blitar includes the History of Islamic Civilization course as a compulsory subject, especially for institutions affiliated with Islamic religious universities, both public and private throughout Indonesia, including the Islamic Psychology study program. This descriptive qualitative research through literature study with content analysis discusses the urgency of the History of Islamic Civilization course in the Islamic Psychology study program at Nahdlatul Ulama University Blitar. Autobiographical writing is a historical literary writing that reveals the author's views on himself, man and the environment around his life. This article reviews the development of autobiographical writing in Islamic history, also reviews five autobiographical writings written by several Islamic scholars and philosophers to describe the form and approach used by them. It can be concluded that, autobiographical writing in Islam is not a complete imitation of an external civilization encompassing concepts and forms. On the other hand, Islamic autobiography has its own characteristics and approaches apart from developing various forms of writing.

The chapters in the history of Islamic civilization by historians are divided into classical, medieval, and modern periods. Islamic civilization itself is a civilization that spread widely to various regions, including the Persian region. Persia in its history deviates many relics that show how Islam is dynamic in each era. This article was written using a qualitative descriptive approach by describing the literature study method. From the results of the discussion, it is known that Islamic civilization in Persia is dynamic, and most of the relics left by the Shafavid dynasty. In addition, in the later period, Persian identification with Shia (teachings) became attached to each other as a result of the dynamics of Islam in this region.

Humans in their civilization gain insight into human failures and successes through history. In this way, history provides valuable lessons that humans can apply today. This article aims to review the urgency and position of history in human life. This article was written using a qualitative approach using the literature study method. From the results of the study, it implies that history is not just a legacy. Through history it is hoped that humans can learn and realize that everything is not instantaneous, everything goes through a process so that the future will be better. History has an important meaning for human civilization. This can be seen from the role of history as a basic reference in dealing with life today and predicting life in the future.

Abstract In the strategic context of building a comprehensive ecologically civilized society as envisaged by the Communist Party and State Government of China, Eco-civilization education would become a mandatory new mission of the higher educational institutions in China. Linking the constructive postmodernism and ecological Marxism theories to eco-civilization, the purpose of the present essay is to restructure the higher education system for realizing the eco-civilized society in China via the literature integration methodology, the findings are as follows: (1) the goal of instituting the educational system of Eco-civilization in Chinese universities and colleges is to facilitate the culturing ecological literacy of the graduates; (2) the implementation of Eco-civilization education will create the graduates’ awareness, impart their requisite knowledge, and motivate them to adopt practices that promote Eco-civilization; and (3) the triple transitions of the higher education institutions in China to deliver on their missions as implementers of Eco-civilization education. Firstly, they must roll-out pragmatic programs to enhance students’ Eco-civilization conscious through the teaching Eco-civilization concepts as part of ideological and political courses. Secondly, they could also deepen students’ Eco-civilization knowledge by adjusting the teaching content and pedagogy of ecology courses. Finally, they could facilitate the Eco-civilization process by reinforcing behavioral reforms required to drive sustainable Eco-civilization and help positions these students as devoted ambassadors of Eco-civilization after graduation.

This research is a literature review related to the history of the Qur'an, from history to history and bookkeeping. This study aims to examine the importance of the history of the Qur'an in Islamic education. Apart from being the main source of Muslim diversity, the Qur'an also contains education. In reality, it is not only the contents of the Qur'an that contain education but from the history of decline to the bookkeeping, there are educational values that can be learned and can be applied. For example, the history of the Golden Islamic civilization is not from the Qur'an. The advances that have occurred are supported by a high understanding of the Qur'an. To produce civilization or thoughts that are directed to the benefit of humans. With the Koran breathing, the development of education and even Islamic civilization can reach its peak.

Islamic Civilization is one of civilizations which has a prominent role in the world civilizations history. But many bad stereotypes has been given by Orientalist about Islamic Civilization. More than it, some of them also regard that Islamic Civilization has the lowest contribution in human civilization advancement. To know how Islamic Civilization ruled and had a role in developing civilization in that time, so the writer uses hegemony theory of Antonio Gramsci. The result of this research proves that there are two ways done by Islamic Civilization in ruling the society under its authority, first is by structured leadership led by the highest commander in Islam society civilization, and second is by morality leadership which that moral is taken from Alquran principals and values. Despite opinions above, Islamic Civilization contributions also has been acknowledged by European especially in this three sectors, it is in science, morality and thought. The contribution of Islamic civilization in the field of Arabic Literature is the presence of themes of heroism and the spirit of struggle in European literary works.

Background. Islam is a religion that prioritizes the principles of truth and justice for all its adherents. Factors that encourage Muslims to achieve independence are ideological, political, economic, social and cultural factors. Islam has an important role in the development of education in Indonesia. There are three sectors of Islamic education in Indonesia, namely formal, informal and non-formal. Purpose. The purpose of this research is to find out 1.) The history of the development of Islam in Indonesia after independence. 2.) The impact of the development of Islam in Indonesia. 3.) The process of development of Islamic civilization. So from the description above, the author will explain how the development of Islam in Indonesia after independence, what caused the emergence of the Islamic renewal movement, especially in Indonesia. Method. This research uses the type of literature study (library research). The data collection technique carried out in this study uses a study of bibliographic sources from books and articles in scientific journals related to the subject matter, reading data with the thoughts of experts with a constructive approach and interpretation of the contents of the main discussion related to the development of Islam after independence. Results. After Indonesia's independence in 1945, Islamic civilization in the country continued to develop and made significant contributions in various aspects of life. Conclusion. After independence, Islamic education was one of the key points in the development of Islamic civilization in Indonesia. The thinking and writing of Indonesian Islamic intellectuals also developed with many studies, writings and translations of classical and modern Islamic works. The Salafi movement that insists on returning to the teachings of Islam is considered to be fully associated with the salafushalih (early generations of Islam), and emerged and developed after independence.

This paper aims at to investigate the ancient regional political history (600-180 BCE), which seems the foundation of Gandhara Civilization that emerged in the Northwest of the Indian subcontinent. The evolution of Gandhara Civilization and emergence of ancient regional political history deem consolidated. In this paper, it would be endeavoured to address the emergence of ancient regional political history that paved the way for a great civilization. The employed design to address the question is historical and qualitative. For the collection and analysis of the data, the qualitative historical approach is adopted. The edifice of present work is mainly erected on the archival sources, reputed journals, historical literature and version of prominent scholars associated to the field. Gandhara possessed a decent political exposition during its early phase. It remained an empire during Pakosati, a federating unit during Persian, independent kingdoms during the invasion of Alexander and remained central part of Mauryan Empire. The emergence of Gandhara is the exposition of politico-historical discourse of the region, which is the foundation of Gandhara Civilization.

This study aims to analyze the development of Indonesian Islamic civilization during the Dutch colonial period. This study using library research produces research data that: 1). The dynamics of the socio-cultural conditions of Islamic civilization during the Dutch colonial period were still underdeveloped due to the strict system of colonialism applied in Indonesia; 2). The government system of Islamic civilization during the Dutch colonial period greatly influenced the development of Islamic civilization in Indonesia; 3). There were 3 strategies for Islamic da'wah during the Dutch colonial period, including: the transitional da'wah system between Hinduism and Islam, the lecture method in surau, and Islamic boarding schools; 4). Challenges to Islamic civilization during the Dutch colonial period included: Challenges in the fields of education, politics, economy and religion or da'wah; 5). Although some patients have breast cancer in their family history, up to 10% breast cancer can develop in the follow-up of JP patients. In this pathology, which is diagnosed with biopsy, history, clinical and radiological findings help in diagnosis. In this case report, a 37-year-old patient diagnosed with JP will be discussed in the light of the literature.

The article examines the history of the development of women’s creativity in Azerbaijani literature. The stages of the historical development of women’s writing are traced against the background of general historical processes. The features of the development of socio-political life of Azerbaijan at different historical stages are especially emphasized and the influence of these processes on the development of women’s creativity in general is considered. The achievements of Azerbaijan in the East and in world civilization are listed. The work of such poets as Mehseti Ganjavi, Agabeim aga Javanshir, Khurshudbanu Natavan, Ashug Peri, Khairan Khanum is analyzed. Using specific literary samples from the works of poets, thematic and stylistic features of women’s writing are revealed. Some biographical data of poetesses that influenced the development of their creativity are also noted. The importance of the activities of Azerbaijani educators, who influenced the solution of the women’s issue and the formation of women‘s creativity, is also noted. As a result of the study, we can come to the conclusion that thanks to the activities and creativity of the above-mentioned poetesses, women‘s creativity found further development in Azerbaijani literature at further stages.

Reading Islamic history and civilization and contemporary conditions affected by irrational religious narratives, the decline of Muslim society, conflicts, and violence prove that the decline and backwardness of civilization are still continuing in Islamic world. Various formula are offered to revive Islamic civilization. However, instead of compiling a formula with a strong scientific foundation, the response has been increasingly ideological and political from time to time. At the same time, unfortunately, the Muslim community used heretics and prohibitions to purge Islam’s only scientific and rational heritage, philosophy, from the stage of civilization. Through an interdisciplinary approach and critical discourse analysis methods utilizing empirical and literature to reveal the urgency of philosophy as an important tradition related to advance quality of civilization, this research findings important results are; First, Islamic philosophy deals with the creation of scientific and humanist culture which becomes basis progress of civilization. Second, after forbidden by Sunni orthodox which made political alliences with rulers, Islamic philosophy lost its influence, and gradually Islamic civilization declined. Third, decline that continue to this day is the result of the position of Islamic philosophy which has not been sufficiently revitalized in Muslim societies.

Abstract Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare benign tumour of vascular origin found in adolescent males, originating around the sphenopalatine foramen. Although the exact pathogenesis of the tumour is not yet known, natural history and growth patterns can be predicted. JNA progressively involves the nasopharynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, pterygopalatine fossa, infratemporal fossa and, in severe cases, an orbital or intracranial extension can be seen. Early diagnosis based on clinical examination and imaging is mandatory to ensure the best resectability of the tumour, as small to moderate tumours can be managed exclusively endoscopically. Preoperative angiography can reveal the vascular sources and allow embolization to prevent significant bleeding. We present a brief literature review followed by our case series of endoscopic removal of 7 juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a benign vasculartumor.It is commonly found in teen age males. Its site of origin is sphenopalatine foramen. Exact pathogenesis of angiofibroma is not known. It has predictable natural history and growth pattern. This tumor most often involves nasopharynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, pterygopalatine fossa and infratemporal fossa. It can also involve orbit and can spread intracranially. Its very important to diagnose this tumor very early on the basis of clinical examination and imaging. As early tumor confined to nose and sinuses can be removed exclusively with endoscope. It is very helpful to do angiography before surgery to ascertain itsblood supply and then embolization can be done to reduce intraoperative bleeding. Objective: To describe our experience of Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma cases in ENT Unit-I of Lahore General Hospital. Study Design: Descriptive Study with retrospective analysis after approval from Institutional Review Board (IRB) of LGH/PGMI/AMC Lahore. Methods: We studied 20 patients who underwent surgery in our department from October 2019 to October 2020. We analyzed following factors: age, gender, symptoms, staging, mode of surgery and need for intraoperative blood transfusion, hospital stay, complications and recurrences. Results: Range of patient’s age was 12 to 25 years. Eight patients underwent surgery with endoscope. Mean blood loss was about 400 ml and mean operating time was 140 minutes. All the cases were embolized preoperatively. Conclusion: Endoscopic surgery is a safe and effective method in early stage JNA patients. While patients with advance stage tumors should be managed with combined endoscopic and conventional open approaches. KEYWORDS: juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, JNA, endoscopic surgery

The article is devoted to the problems of civilizational analysis of Russian history. The author shows, that the “civilizational method” is not at all a panacea for ideologized unprofessionalism and a guarantee of scientific correctness. The major authors in the field of Russian history avoided using the concept of “civilization”, and spoke either about Russian state (Karamzin, S. Solovyov), or about Russian people(Polevoy), or about Slavic cultural and historical type (Danilevsky). This proves that operating with the philosophically rich concept of “civilization” is fraught with its own limitations and costs, in addition to the temptations and some analytical advantages. The author believes that when using the concept of “Russian civilization”, it is necessary to take into account the presence in our culture of a large layer of “ironic literature” on the topic of excessive generalizations: “History of the Village Goryukhino” by Pushkin, “History of the city [Glupov]” by Saltykov-Shchedrin, “History of the Village Brehov” by Mozhaev, etc. The author, relying on the typology of civilizations by A. Toynbee, N. Berdyaev and his own developments (since the 1980s), believes that the civilizational process in Russia took place, firstly, in the mode of “continuity through catastrophes”, and, secondly, it took place not only in confrontation with other civilizations, but also in a struggle with its own, internal “barbarism”.

During the middle and late nineteenth century, a number of Danish travel writers visited the United States with a view to narrating about the New World to their readers back home. Four of the most prominent writers were Hans Peter Christian Hansen, Vilhelm C.S. Topsøe, Robert Watt, and Henrik Cavling. Among the many topics covered by these writers was that of American Indians. Establishing a narrative of the “vanishing Indian,” the writers endeavored to tie the Indians to a receding landscape of the past and—for the most part—to establish a contradiction between Indians and white “civilization.” Likewise displaying an interest in Scandinavian immigrants, the travel writers sometimes attempted to create links between the Indians and Scandinavian settlers. With no clear Danish interest in celebrating American exceptionalism in the shape of classical U.S. “Manifest Destiny,” the travel writers were nevertheless involved in processes of bonding with the dominant population element of the United States through their common “civilization” and whiteness.

This essay advances a theory of black classicism as a mode of resistance to the dominant narrative of American history, according to which the United States was to be a new Rome, rooted in the best traditions of classical antiquity yet destined to surpass its antecedent through the redeeming power of American exceptionalism. In the late nineteenth century this narrative reemerged as a means of getting beyond sectional conflict and refocusing on imperial expansion and economic growth. For Charles Chesnutt, a post-Reconstruction African American writer, the progress of American civilization was a dubious notion, a fiction suited to the nation's imperial purposes. In opposition, Chesnutt developed an outsider classicism, challenging the figuration of the United States as inheritor of the mantle of Western civilization by linking the nation to the ancient world through the institution of slavery—a very present relic of the past.

This article examines the strategy of literary spatialization employed by colonial subjects to imaginatively engage with colonial civilizing projects. It analyzes twelve adventure stories written between the 1910s and 1920s by colonial Vietnamese reformed scholars, whose lives were impacted by the pan-Asian reform movements that swept Japan, China, and Vietnam between the 1860s and 1900s. They reflected their experiences with Enlightened civilization as they were pushing for vernacularization and modernization through translating the Chinese transculturation of Japanese texts into Latin-basedquốc ngữscript while constructing a national literature. Adventure tales and travelogues were considered suitable for aspiring writers to translatively imitate Western literature as presented in Chinese translation of Japanese texts. The authors negotiated with the French version of Enlightened Civilization by employing two East Asian literary tropes: the dangerous but exciting Rivers-and-Lakes World, where the protagonist ventures to search forvăn minh, and the peaceful and other-worldly Peach Blossom Spring utopia, where the true qualities ofvăn minhare realized. The background to this research is the discourse on Islamic history which is often monopolized to produce a single narrative regarding the history of a great and majestic Islamic civilization unlike today. This is often used as an argument for why we have to return to the time of the prophet and the caliphate, which led to radicalization, especially of young people, to restore the caliphate in Indonesia. Why are young people easily radicalized? What historical scholarship can be used to counter it? and What is the history of Islamic civilization that was not radicalized? The answer to this question is about the internal and external problems faced by today's young people, especially students. The way to overcome this is through critical and creative thinking as in the 2023 Merdeka Curriculum. This research aims to provide history teachers with a role in preventing radicalization through historical scholarship, namely the Hegel Dialectic, especially the history of Islamic civilization. This article uses qualitative research with the literature study method. This research analyzes the reasons why young people who are often targets of radicalization by terrorist groups become their members by comparing the present with the "past glories" of Islamic civilization. Hegel's dialectic is a way to discuss complex topics by showing two different points of view of Thesis and Antithesis so as to achieve a broader understanding of Synthesis. This technique can prevent students from becoming radicalized because they don't immediately believe something before checking it themselves. Hegel's dialect is a means of contracting radicalism discourse using historical science as its basis.

Distance education is a hotly debated subject in the scientific and pedagogical environment of the newest period; in the methodological literature, issues of practical and theoretical nature are actively discussed (from the effectiveness of remote servers to ethical issues that arise during classes). As a positive experience, the article presents the materials of practical classes of the course “History of civilizations”, which is read by the author at St Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, in a distance format as well. The material is built according to the problem-chronological principle, that allows students to consolidate what they have learned in lectures, supplement their knowledge using various visualization and illustration methods, thus deepening their understanding of the topic as a whole. An indirect appeal to historical sources is possible when analyzing monographic studies on the cultures of ancient ethnic groups, the 18-volume encyclopedia “Disappeared Civilizations”, and the content of the official websites of world museums that store the heritage of ancient civilizations. M.Montaigne in “Experiments” used the term ‘civilization’ (1581). Descartes in “Discourse on Methods” contrasted the concepts of “wild” and “civilized”; Herder was one of the first to connect civilization with the development of culture, pointing to the civilization of the East as the most ancient. In the 19th century, the concepts of “civilization” and “culture” were synonymous. In the 20th century, anthropological understanding of culture as a result of acquired behavioral skills began to be replaced by the concept of civilization. The article is devoted to a thematic review of individual historical monuments of a number of ancient civilizations, stored in various museums around the world, which can serve as illustrations for the educational discipline “History of Civilizations” in a distance format.
