Abstract (sommario):
The reactivity of Cu -based oxygen carrier prepared by mechanical mixing for producing oxygen was investigated in a thermogravimetric analyzer. The results show that the oxygen carrier has excellent stability during reduction–oxidation cycles. This oxygen carrier showed a maximum oxygen transport capacity of 0.059 g/g during cycle experiments and the time for one cycle is less than 16 min. Phases and surface morphology of oxygen carriers were measured by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope before and after experiments. The phases of reduced oxygen carrier are only Cu2O and TiO2 and of fresh or oxidized samples are only CuO and TiO2 . These reveal that the oxygen carrier is stable using the preparation process and under the operation conditions. SEM images show that the fresh and reacted oxygen carrier particles did not appear to disintegrate after 23 cycles.

Abstract (sommario):
A detailed study into the turbulent behaviour of dilute particulate flow under the influence of two carrier phases namely gas and liquid has been carried out behind a sudden expansion geometry. The major endeavour of the study is to ascertain the response of the particles within the carrier (gas or liquid) phase. The main aim prompting the current study is the density difference between the carrier and the dispersed phases. While the ratio is quite high in terms of the dispersed phase for the gas-particle flows, the ratio is far more less in terms of the liquid-particle flows. Numerical simulations were carried out for both these classes of flows using an Eulerian two-fluid model with RNG based k- emodel as the turbulent closure. An additional kinetic energy equation to better represent the combined fluid-particle behaviour is also employed in the current set of simulations. In the first part of this two part series, experimental results of Fessler and Eaton (1995) for Gas-Particle (GP) flow and that of Founti and Klipfel (1998) for Liquid-Particle (LP) flow have been compared and analysed. This forms the basis of the current study which aims to look at the particulate behaviour under the influence of two carrier phases. Further numerical simulations were carried out to test whether the current numerical formulation can used to simulate these varied type of flows and the same were validated against the experimental data of both GP as well LP flow. Qualitative results have been obtained for both these classes of flows with their respective experimental data both at the mean as well as at the turbulence level for carrier as well as the dispersed phases.

Abstract (sommario):
The dynamic precise orbit determination of a Low Earth Orbit satellite using triple differenced GPS phases is presented in this study. The atmospheric drag parameters are estimated to compensate the incomplete atmosphere model for better precision of the orbit solution. In addition, the empirical force parameters, especially once- and twice-per-revolution components, along with the new IERS Conventions and models to compute the perturbing forces are introduced to absorb the remaining unmodelled forces. The optimal arc length for the parameterization and the data processing strategy are also tested and analyzed for the best orbit solutions. The triple differencing technique enables fast and efficient orbit estimation, because no ambiguity resolution and cycle slip detection are required. With the triple differenced ion-free GPS phase observables, the orbit and the velocity solutions for 24 hours of CHAMP are calculated; they compare with the published Rapid Science Orbit with the accuracy of 8 cm and 0·12 mm/s in 3D RMS for the orbit and the velocity, respectively, and are statistically consistent with the RSO when it is not better than 4 cm in terms of an absolute accuracy. The approach presented here provides an efficient and simple, but robust, alternative approach, while the solution's accuracy is still comparable to the double-difference results.

Abstract (sommario):
We show that the unconventional electron–phonon interactions and polaronic effects, charge inhomogeneity and charge ordering in underdoped cuprates result in the nanoscale phase separation and the occurrence of competing and coexisting of insulating and metallic/superconducting phases. We identify possible types of localized and mobile charge carriers in these systems, which segregate into insulating (carrier-poor) and metallic/superconducting (carrier-rich) regions as a result of their specific ordering. We found that the coexistence of two competing insulating and metallic phases can persist in the lightly doped cuprates on a local scale, while the coexistence of three competing insulating, metallic and superconducting phases is expected in the underdoped cuprates on a global scale. We demonstrated that the competing effects of these coexisting insulating and metallic/superconducting phases are manifested in the unusual temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibility and resistivity and in the suppression of superconductivity in various underdoped cuprates.

Abstract (sommario):
Parallel operation of inverters is one of the most effective and representative ways to increase system capacity. However, zero-sequence circulating currents occur due to the practical deviations of components constituting individual inverters in case of parallel connected inverters in which a common direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) bus is shared. In particular, circulating currents of the high-frequency component as well as those of the low-frequency component are generated due to the asynchronization of the carriers of individual inverters. In order to suppress the circulating currents as such, the phases of the carriers should be shifted as much as the phase errors between the carriers to compensate for the phase errors. A difficulty in this phase compensation control is that when there are several pulse-width modulation (PWM) carriers, it is impossible to identify the phase of each carrier. In this paper, to overcome the problem, a method to specify the position of one of the many carriers and control the carriers and compensate for phase errors based on the relevant phase was proposed. In addition, this paper includes the analysis of circulating currents generated in the case of carrier phase errors and proposes a method to identify carrier phase errors and compensate for the relevant errors. The proposed method was verified through simulations and experiments.

Abstract (sommario):
Controlling charge density in two-dimensional (2D) materials is a powerful approach for engineering new electronic phases and properties. This control is traditionally realized by electrostatic gating. Here, we report an optical approach for generation of high carrier densities using transition metal dichalcogenide heterobilayers, WSe2/MoSe2, with type II band alignment. By tuning the optical excitation density above the Mott threshold, we realize the phase transition from interlayer excitons to charge-separated electron/hole plasmas, where photoexcited electrons and holes are localized to individual layers. High carrier densities up to 4 × 1014 cm−2 can be sustained under both pulsed and continuous wave excitation conditions. These findings open the door to optical control of electronic phases in 2D heterobilayers.

Abstract (sommario):
With electronic warfare increasingly complicated and military confrontations increasingly intense, the potential security threat to satellite navigation has become a difficult issue to deal with. Traditional satellite navigation anti-interference technology generally refers to jamming, but less consideration has been given to spoofing. It should be noted that the potential risk induced by spoofing interference is worse than that caused by jamming as the loss of positioning integrity may not be immediately obvious. This paper introduces a spoofing detection method based on a two-antenna structure using fraction parts of double-difference carrier phase observables. If all spoofing signals are transmitted by one single antenna, a spoofing detection hypothesis test can be carried out through the normalisation of double-difference carrier phase observables, without need to consider the integer ambiguity problem, measure the baseline vector and estimate the real directions of signals. The detection scheme adopts an M of N algorithm (if M or more of the test values exceed the threshold, the algorithm declares the presence of a spoofing signal), integrating carrier phase measurements of all the available satellites. Finally, the proposed method is verified by real experiments. This spoofing detection method can easily be applied to GNSS anti-spoofing receivers without changing their architecture and has simple and effective characteristics.

Abstract (sommario):
A study of Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless transitions in clean, layered two-dimensional superconductors promises to provide insight into a host of novel phenomena like re-entrant vortex-dynamics, underlying unconventional metallic phases, and topological superconductivity. In this Letter, we report the study of charge carrier dynamics in a novel two-dimensional superconducting van der Waals heterostructure comprising of monolayer MoS2 and few-layer NbSe2 ([Formula: see text] nm). Using low-frequency conductance fluctuation spectroscopy, we show that the superconducting transition in the system is percolative. We present a phenomenological picture of different phases across the transition correlating with the evaluated noise. The analysis of the higher order statistics of fluctuation reveals non-Gaussian components around the transition indicative of long-range correlation in the system.

Abstract (sommario):
An investigation of chromium(VI) transport across a supported liquid membrane containing the phosphine oxides Cyanex 921 and Cyanex 923 dissolved in Solvesso 100 as carrier phases was carried out in batch operation mode. Chromium(VI) transport was investigated as a function of different variables: hydrodynamic conditions in the feed (1000–1600 min−1) and stripping (600–1500 min−1) phases, HCl (0.25–2 M) and indium (0.01–0.1 g/L) concentrations in the feed phase, and carrier (0.01 M–0.75 M) concentration in the membrane phase. Indium was recovered in the stripping phase using hydrazine sulphate solutions, and, at the same time, chromium(VI) was reduced to the less harmful Cr(III) oxidation state. Models describing the transport mechanism comprising a diffusion process through the feed aqueous diffusion layer, fast interfacial chemical reaction, and diffusion of the respective chromium(VI)–phosphine oxide complexes across the membrane were developed. The equations describing the rate of transport correlate the membrane permeability coefficient with diffusion and equilibrium parameters, as well as the chemical compositions of the respective metal–carrier phases. The models were used to calculate diffusional parameters for each metal–carrier system, and the minimum thickness of the feed boundary layer was calculated as 1 × 10−3 cm and 6.3 × 10−4 cm for the Cr(VI)-Cyanex 921 and Cr(VI)-Cyanex 923 systems, respectively.

Abstract (sommario):
One means of enhancing the performance of thermoelectric materials is to generate secondary nanoprecipitates of metallic or semiconducting properties in a thermoelectric matrix, to form proper band bending and, in turn, to induce a low-energy carrier filtering effect. However, forming nanocomposites is challenging, and proper band bending relationships with secondary phases are largely unknown. Herein, we investigate the in situ phase segregation behavior during melt spinning with various metal elements, including Ti, V, Nb, Mo, W, Ni, Pd, and Cu, in p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 (BST) thermoelectric alloys. The results showed that various metal chalcogenides were formed, which were related to the added metal elements as secondary phases. The electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, and thermal conductivity of the BST composite with various secondary phases were measured and compared with those of pristine BST alloys. Possible band alignments with the secondary phases are introduced, which could be utilized for further investigation of a possible carrier filtering effect when forming nanocomposites.

Abstract (sommario):
The mixed powder method and covering method were adopted to prepare a composite that has hydrogen storage properties. In the experimental process, the alloy phases Mg2Ni and NiTi generated regularly; the penetration of the hydrogen atoms to the material was considered as the adsorption of the material to the hydrogen atoms; the original thermodynamic equation was edited; the crystal phases were optimized by adjusting the parameters about the material composition and gas concentration, so that providing advantageous channels of the hydrogen atoms in and out to improve the hydrogen storage properties. The results showed that integer multiples adjustment to trace element Ti could make hydrogen storage properties maximizing optimize and have controllability for the capacity and rate of hydrogen storage according to the newly editing equation. The innovation was to edit out equation that can improve the hydrogen storage properties through adjusting three parameters of trace element Ti, adsorption and penetration to find the most optimal condition improving the hydrogen storage properties.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper the numerical model, which was presented in the first paper (Mohanarangam & Tu; 2009) of this series of study, is employed to study the different particle responses under the influence of two carrier phases namely the gas and the liquid. The numerical model takes into consideration the turbulent behaviour of both the carrier and the dispersed phases, with additional equations to take into account the combined fluid particle behaviour, thereby effecting a two-way coupling. The first paper in this series showed the distinct difference in particulate response both at the mean as well as at the turbulent level for two varied carrier phases. In this paper further investigation has been carried out over a broad range of particle Stokes number to further understand their behaviour in turbulent environments. In order to carry out this prognostic study, the backward facing step geometry of Fessler and Eaton (1999) has been adopted, while the inlet conditions for the carrier as well as the particle phases correspond to that of the experiments of Founti and Klipfel (1998). It is observed that at the mean velocity level the particulate velocities increased with a subsequent increase in the Stokes number for both the GP (Gas-Particle) as well as the LP (Liquid-Particle) flow. It was also observed that across the Stokes number there was a steady increase in the particulate turbulence for the GP flows with successive increase in Stokes number. However, for the LP flows, the magnitude of the increase in the particulate turbulence across the increasing of Stokes number is not as characteristic as the GP flow. Across the same sections for LP flows the majority of the trend shows a decrease after which they remain more or less a constant.

Abstract (sommario):
Carrier concentration of phase change materials is a critical parameter that determines electrical resistivity in amorphous and crystalline states. To obtain insights into carrier concentration of amorphous and face centered cubic (fcc) crystalline Ge2Sb2Te5, the Seebeck coefficients of as-deposited and thermal annealed Ge2Sb2Te5 films were evaluated from thermopower measurements. All the samples show p-type conduction. The Seebeck coefficients of amorphous and fcc crystalline phase were +0.89 and +0.028 mV/K, which correspond to carrier concentrations of ∼1016 and ∼1020 cm−3, respectively. Carrier mobility was also estimated to be in the range 0.02–0.6 cm2/Vs in both amorphous and fcc crystalline phases. High contrast in electrical resistivity between amorphous and fcc crystalline Ge2Sb2Te5 is originated from the difference of carrier concentration.

Abstract (sommario):
Due to the tunable electrical transport properties and lower thermal conductivity, Zintl phase compounds have been considered as a promising candidate for thermoelectric applications. Most Sb-based Zintl compounds exhibit essentially p-type conduction as result of the cation vacancy. Herein, n-type Zintl phases Eu5−yLayIn2.2Sb6 has been successfully synthesized via controlling the vacancy defect combined with intentional electron doping. Excess of In would occupy the vacancy while La doping enables the electron to be the major carrier at the measured temperate range, realizing the n-type conduction for Eu5−yLayIn2.2Sb6 (y ≥ 0.04). Meanwhile, the thermal conductivity of Eu5−yLayIn2.2Sb6 reduces from 0.90 W/mK to 0.72 W/mK at 583 K derived from the La doping-induced disorder. The maximum thermoelectric figure of merit zT = 0.13 was obtained. This work firstly realizes the n-type conduction in Eu5In2Sb6, which sheds light on the strategy to synthesize n-type Zintl thermoelectric materials and promotes the practical applications of Zintl thermoelectric devices.

Abstract (sommario):
The evolution of the science and technology of liposomes as a drug carrier has passed through a number ofdistinct phases. Because they exhibit peculiar properties due to their structure, chemical compositionamphiphilic nature, physico-chemical characters and colloidal size, which are used in various applications. These properties point to several applications as the solubilizer for insoluble drugs, dispersants, and sustainedrelease system, delivery system for the encapsulated substance, stabilizer, protective agents, and micro reactivebeing the most obvious ones. Yet interest in liposomes, especially among academic workers, spread rapidly weattribute this to the remarkable structural versatility of the system, which enables the design of countlessliposomes versions to satisfy particular needs in terms of both technology and optimal function in vivo.

Abstract (sommario):
Theoretical considerations are given to the specific regularities of water wetting of a microinhomogeneous surface of a solid body and the appearance of linear tension (twodimensional pressure) as a result of the curvature of the contact line of three phases during flotation. An expression is obtained for determining the critical radius of the wetting perimeter, which corresponds to the possibility of compensating the linear tension along the surface of the sphere. Here it is appropriate to draw an analogy between the dependence of surface tension on the radius of a liquid drop and the dependence of the linear tension on the curvature of the three-phase contact line. The technology for extracting gold microdispersions from ore by introducing carrier minerals into the system was tested. As carrier minerals, a rough concentrate was used, separated from the ore according to the jet flotation scheme. The obtained results offlotation can be interpreted using the developed theoretical principles.

Abstract (sommario):
This study has investigated in detail trace metal concentrations in Cleveland Bay in the central Great Barrier Reef and assessed the significant carrier phases of several metals during a simulated disturbance of sediments designed to investigate the effects of dredging. Organic, iron oxide and carbonate phases were shown to be important carrier phases for several trace metals. The application of an acid-leach technique to monitor labile or pollutant concentrations of copper, zinc, lead and nickel in sediments collected from coral reefs sampled before and after two dredging events in 1991 yielded useful information on the fate of dredged sediment. Trace metal contamination close inshore was attributed to port activities, sewage discharge and urbanization.

Abstract (sommario):
Since the pivotal experimental discovery of near-room-temperature superconductivity (NRTS) in highly compressed sulphur hydride by Drozdov et al. (Nature 2015, 525, 73–76), more than a dozen binary and ternary hydrogen-rich phases exhibiting superconducting transitions above 100 K have been discovered to date. There is a widely accepted theoretical point of view that the primary mechanism governing the emergence of superconductivity in hydrogen-rich phases is the electron–phonon pairing. However, the recent analysis of experimental temperature-dependent resistance, R(T), in H3S, LaHx, PrH9 and BaH12 (Talantsev, Supercond. Sci. Technol. 2021, 34, accepted) showed that these compounds exhibit the dominance of non-electron–phonon charge carrier interactions and, thus, it is unlikely that the electron–phonon pairing is the primary mechanism for the emergence of superconductivity in these materials. Here, we use the same approach to reveal the charge carrier interaction in highly compressed lithium, black phosphorous, sulfur, and silane. We found that all these superconductors exhibit the dominance of non-electron–phonon charge carrier interaction. This explains the failure to demonstrate the high-Tc values that are predicted for these materials by first-principles calculations which utilize the electron–phonon pairing as the mechanism for the emergence of their superconductivity. Our result implies that alternative pairing mechanisms (primarily the electron–electron retraction) should be tested within the first-principles calculations approach as possible mechanisms for the emergence of superconductivity in highly compressed lithium, black phosphorous, sulfur, and silane.

Abstract (sommario):
Two bimetallic Fe-Cu and Fe-Ca oxygen carriers were studied for chemical looping gasification (CLG) of biomass. The SEM results indicated that there was no obvious agglomeration on the bimetallic Fe-Cu oxygen carrier supported on Al2O3 and Fe-Ca oxygen carrier after five redox cycles while agglomeration occurred on CuO supported on Al2O3 due to the low melting point of CuO. The XRD results indicated the presence of copper-ferrite and calcium-ferrite phases in the bimetallic materials. The two bimetallic oxygen carriers can be re-oxidized with air to form a crystalline that is similar to the fresh materials. The Fe-Ca oxide became active at 360 °C which was lower than 380 °C for the Fe-Cu oxygen carrier. The high thermal stability and redox reactivity of bimetallic Fe-Cu and Fe-Ca oxygen carriers make the bimetallic oxygen carriers more suitable for recycling during CLG. The method for preparing Fe-Cu oxygen carriers had no significant impact on biomass conversion efficiency but had significant effect on the quality of syngas. Proper control of the biomass/oxygen carrier mass ratio is critical to achieve high selectivity towards gasification instead of combustion. The Fe-Ca oxygen carrier could achieve higher selectivity towards gasification than the Fe-Cu oxygen carrier.
