Since the 50s in France and in Italy and the 70s in Anglo-Saxon countries, the definitions of neorealism are given through the prisms of the aesthetic, of technique, of politics and of history. It is important here to bring the latter to the fore through the perspective of sound. Indeed, it seems that as neorealists in the 40s would more often get out of studios to shoot the pictures, they are quite as likely to go back to them to record the sound that goes along with them. The analysis of the work by directors responsible for the birth, the extension, the peak and the alleged “death” of the cinema movement is at the heart of this study which aims at including this less studied aspect. Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini are the main figures that are included in this work. However, observing the early stages and the legacy of neorealism seems mandatory given the importance of sound. The pioneer movies by Mario Camerini for instance are produced in the 30s, an era during which sound technologies have evolved. Likewise, successors of the movement such as Michelangelo Antonioni and Pier Paolo Pasolini, were shooting their feature films as new possibilities of live sound recording were making their appearance, namely thanks to the democratization of magnetic tapes. By bringing together the different technological contexts and the aesthetic analyses produced thanks to theoretic and historical supports, the definitions of Italian neorealism may be broadened while at the same time demonstrating how postsynchronization plays a vital role in it

The need to adopt the interactive method in reading practices must be considered as a fundamental practice if we want to improve the reading competence of the students. This study aimed to improve the reading practices in Secondary Education in Cameroon. Hence, the purpose of this research is to analyze the reading practices in the classrooms of the 3rd year of Spanish in high school. For this purpose, we have used two instruments: the questionnaire and the observation with its respective guide. The results have indicated that the factors that hinder the learning of the reading comprehension have more weight than those that facilitate it. These difficulties refer, on the one hand, to the official program, the school textbooks and on the other, the teachers. Faced with these limitations, a globalizing proposal is recommended: in the political sphere and in the field of the classroom and the families.

The purpose of this research is to propose a teaching resource for learning Spanish as a foreign language in the interactionist way. It is intended for a schooled context in which the structural program of teaching a foreign language is well established. With the interactionist model of learning, language serves as an instrument to interact socially with certain discursive capacity in exchanges of ideas and to collectively build learning and communicative strategies. In order to find the factors for effective language acquisition in the inner world of the students, this investigation carried out an analysis of the needs of students. The result revealed that, the learning experiences and collaborative strategies in language classes prevail over the accumulation of knowledge. In view of these premises, it is proved that success in teaching is obtained when the volitional resources of students are at the forefront of the process. Therefore, this study designed teaching materials focused on learning the target language in communicative interaction and, based on the motivations of each learner. This involves the flexible nature of the proposed materials and adaptability to the wide variety of learning situations. In the same way, the effective implementation of learning strategies is emphasized, in order to increase the efficiency and performances of a spanish language learner.

Kapala Cameron, 1884 is widespread throughout the Neotropical region, except for Chile and a disjunct species is found in Central Africa and Madagascar. The need for a review of the Kapala species was observed from their original descriptions, which are extremely succinct, resulting in many misidentifications. The vast majority of descriptions mention coloration, which is extremely variable; the presence of two long spines, flabellate antennas in males and mesoscuto high and convex. These characteristics are common to all species making identification of their species almost impossible. Despite this, the greatest difficulty found within the group is its high intraspecific variation, but at the same time highly conserved. This is the first attempt to revise known species, to describe new taxa, and to establish a baseline for genus taxonomy. In addition, a new phylogenetic proposal for Kapala is provided. In Chapter I, based on the examination of the species-type and complementary material, we redescribe the type species of the genus and establish the limits of valid species; four synonyms were performed, K. atrata (Walker, 1862) n. syn. and K. surgens (Walker, 1862) n. syn. was synonimized with K. flabellata (Fabricius, 1804), K. striaticeps (Cameron, 1913) n. syn. was synonymized with K. inexagens (Walker, 1862) and K. sulcifacies (Cameron, 1904) n. syn. was synonymized with K. romandii (GuérinMeneville, 1845); three lectotypes were designated: K. cynipsea (Walker, 1862) pres. desig., K.inexagens(Walker, 1862) pres. desig. and K. terminalis (Ashmead, 1892) pres. desig., and seven species had males associated with females. Seven new species are described: K. confusa n. sp., K. corcovata n. sp., K. genistriata n. sp., K. gracilispina n. sp., K. haplospinosa n. sp., K. jalisca n. sp. e K. spinaepplanata, and an identification key for all species is provided. In Chapter II, a phylogenetic study based on morphological and molecular data was performed with the objective of testing Kapala monophyly and the relationships among its species. For this purpose, 61 characters related to external morphology were analyzed. For the molecular analyzes, parts of five gene regions were amplified: 18S, 28S-D2, 28S-D3-D5, COI-nj and COII. As a result, it was verified in all morphological and molecular analyzes that Kapala is paraphyletic, divided into three species complexes, which in turn are divided by groups of different genera. In chapter III, the iridicolor species complex was reviewed, as well as a molecular phylogeny based on 5 genes, 3 nuclear and 2 ribosomal genes. Six species were recognized within the iridicolor complex, including K. iridicolor described by Cameron (1904) and five new species: K. cavicornis n. sp., K. ceciliae n. sp., K. ipa n. sp., K. longicornis n. sp. and K. parairidicolor n. sp. In addition, a diagnosis of the K. iridicolor complex is provided, as well as an identification key for the species. In chapter IV, a review of the furcata species complex and a molecular phylogeny was performed, with three new species being recognized: K. deltalis n. sp., K. parafurcata n. sp. And K. quasimodo n. sp. In addition, a diagnosis for the furcata complex is provided, as well as a key identification for its species. In Chapter V, as a basis in morphological and molecular phylogeny, two new genera are described for the family Eucharitidae, Ecarinata n. gen. and Torquata n. gen. A revised and updated key is provided for the Neotropical genera of Eucharitidae.

My thesis work focuses on the “Scapigliatura democratica”, an Italian literary movement that developed in Milan between the 60s and 80s of the 19th century. Compared to the broader Scapigliatura movement, the Scapigliatura democratica is characterized by the close link between literature and politics that underlies its cultural project. My research aimed to investigate this phenomenon of politicization in the narrative and journalistic production of the most significant representatives of the movement (Arrighi, Bizzoni, Tronconi, Valera, Cameroni). After an introductory chapter on the state of the art, the thesis is divided into two main parts. In the first, we sought to describe the relationship between “Scapigliatura” and politics, from the late 1850s, when the term “Scapigliatura” first appeared in Cletto Arrighi’s fragment La scapigliatura, to the journal called «La Farfalla» by Angelo Sommaruga, one of the last newspapers linked to the movement; and also passing through the crucial experience of «Gazzettino Rosa» (1867-1873) by Achille Bizzoni and Felice Cavallotti. In order to avoid any terminological confusion with previous critical studies, we favoured the use of the word “Scapigliatura” from within the movement, in particular the articles written in the first person that were often published in the “scapigliati” journals of the time. In this sense, one of the main tasks of our work has been to evaluate, according to the author or journal concerned, the evolution and the different degree of politicization of the term.In the second part, our goal has been to show the contiguity between literary production and the journalistic activity of the movement, both formally and in terms of content. The hypothesis we wanted to verify was, in particular, the presence of some features related to the pamphlet genre (Angenot, La parole pamphlétaire, 1982) in all this production. It follows that the distinctive feature of the “Scapigliatura democratica” lies less in its artistic or literary configuration than in its rhetorical disposition. In this respect, we shown that even the literary trend of realism, which is the majority within the movement, is characterized in its concrete application by the strong influence of extraliterary ethical and ideological categories. In the last chapter of this section, we tested this idea of hybrid literature by analyzing some of the battles, both cultural and political, waged by the movement throughout its activity, such as those concerning militarism, bourgeois morality or the social question. In conclusion, we underlined the importance of political reflection in building the identity of the movement, as well as the innovative role of intellectual-agitator that the “scapigliati” writer-journalists had in Italy’s political and cultural crisis in the first years after Unity. This was done in particular by the proposal of a combat literature, which would show all its power and its capacity to have an impact on society from the end of the 19th century onwards

This PhD thesis falls under the fields of algebraic combinatorics and group theory. Precisely,it brings a contribution to the domain that studies profiles of oligomorphic permutation groups and their behaviors. The first part of this manuscript introduces most of the tools that will be needed later on, starting with elements of combinatorics and algebraic combinatorics. We define counting functions through classical examples ; with a view of studying them, we argue the relevance of adding a graded algebra structure on the counted objects. We also bring up the notions of order and lattice. Then, we provide an overview of the basic definitions and properties related to permutation groups and to invariant theory. We end this part with a description of the Pólya enumeration method, which allows to count objects under a group action. The second part is dedicated to introducing the domain this thesis comes withinthe scope of. It dwells on profiles of relational structures, and more specifically orbital profiles. If G is an infinite permutation group, its profile is the counting function which maps any n > 0 to the number of orbits of n-subsets, for the inducedaction of G on the finite subsets of elements.Cameron conjectured that the profile of G is asymptotically equivalent to a polynomial whenever it is bounded by apolynomial.Another, stronger conjecture was later made by Macpherson : it involves a certain structure of graded algebra on the orbits of subsetscreated by Cameron, the orbit algebra, and states that if the profile of G is bounded by a polynomial, then its orbit algebra is finitely generated. As a start in our study of this problem, we develop some examples and get our first hints towards a resolution by examining the block systems ofgroups with profile bounded by a polynomial --- that we call P-oligomorphic ---, as well as the notion of subdirect product. The third part is the proof of a classification of P-oligomorphic groups, with Macpherson's conjecture as a corollary.First, we study the combinatorics of the lattice of block systems, which leads to identifying one special, generalized such system, that consists of blocks of blocks with good properties. We then tackle the elementary case when there is only one such block of blocks, for which we establish a classification. The proof borrows to the subdirect product concept to handle synchronizations within the group, and relied on an experimental approach on computer to first conjecture the classification. In the general case, we evidence the structure of a semi-direct product involving the minimal normal subgroup of finite index and some finite group. This allows to formalize a classification of all P-oligomorphic groups, the main result of this thesis, and to deduce the form of the orbit algebra: (little more than) an explicit algebra of invariants of a finite group. This implies the conjectures of Macpherson and Cameron, and a deep understanding of these groups. The appendix provides parts of the code that was used, and a glimpse at that resulting from the classification afterwards, that allows to manipulate P-oligomorphic groups by apropriate algorithmics. Last, we include our earlier (weaker) proof of the conjectures

The object of my PhD dissertation is the commercial video production that has developed in Douala, Cameroon, since the liberalization of the audiovisual sector in 2000 and the diffusion of low-cost and easy-to-use digital technology among the intermediate urban social stratum. Videos are conceived as artwork that expresses social experiences, representing symbolic platforms which trigger and produce change and critically question the world. By investigating the production process, videos are not only analyzed as texts but also as experiences. Against the backdrop of the deep changes that have recently revolutionized the African mediascape, I illustrate the transformations of video production in Douala from the beginning of the 2000s until present. The conclusion focusses on reception practices, highlighting how these reinsert stories into the flux of life, supplying material that can eventually inspire the production of new videos. At the same time, I explore video production as an urban practice that instills sensations and meanings into the urban space. I retrace the social origin of plots and characters, as well as the ways work within the audiovisual sector is organized locally with the aim to grasp the multiple relations between fiction and reality, artists and the rest of society.

Brugidou, Jeremie. Electronic Thesis or Diss., Paris 8, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020PA080016.
Triggered by an aesthetic motif in James Cameron’s filmography, this thesis aims to describe light as a phenomenon shared beyond the human. An Annunciation unfolds in Cameron’s work, manifested through a luminous singularity: bioluminescence. Following the tracks of this uncanny light throughout several films, I consider the luminous event of the Annunciation as a modality of appearing in its bio-logical sense, i.e. in the sense of that which presides to the dynamic and inventiveness of the living in its relational dimensions. I name this dimension, a community of obsession. As far as light is concerned, this obsession is tuned to a photogenic appeal in the living, to which is tied photosensitivity in all its forms. Figurability in aesthetics likewise morphogenesis in biology, describe the multiple embodiments resulting from this bind. I name figurative ecology the trans-specific community thus created; I name figural ethology the observation method enabling to describe the obsessional dimension. I hence consider cinema in its phylogenetic perspective, in other words, throughout the long story of the interaction between life, light and forms. This thesis offers a different perspective on James Cameron’s work, as well as a biophotopolitical approach to multispecies ethnography and a new theory of communication based not on signal and noise, but on figures and grain

A study of the production and reception of Anne Cameron's Daughters of Copper Woman (1981) demonstrates the extent to which the translator, in choosing to take on the stakes arising from the source text, becomes responsible for her/his performed act of mediating.
Furthermore, the translator must be prepared to accept the subjectivity of her/his own reading and ideological convictions, and to contest the value of invisibility traditionally attached to the translator' s role. Analysis of the translations of the first ten short stories of Daughters of Copper Woman illustrates how the translator's ideological stance orients her translation choices. In this thesis, the translator's process of textual intervention is examined from two distinct but complementary perspectives--the feminist and the Bermanian.
PEROTTO, Leonardo Luigi.
The proposal of this research is to investigate the process of creation of the Brazilian composer Pedro Cameron, mainly through the survey and analysis of his work, pointing out specific stylistic characteristics, his perception of the classical guitar idiomatism, and its influence on compositional solutions. In the beginning of the twentieth century, there was a significant growth in the number of works written for the classical guitar by composers of diverse musical backgrounds. These works consolidated a more reorganization both in the writing and the idiomatic absorption of the instrument. The musical works for classical guitar by Pedro Cameron is part of this context, creating an important investigative link for the Brazilian contemporary repertoire. The first part of this master thesis contextualizes this moment, presenting information about the classical guitar in Brazil and the world, and a brief biography of the composer. The second part presents an analytical inquiry of some Cameron's pieces, encompassing the period between the decade of 1970 and the present days. The theoretical framework is based on authors such as Spencer & Temko (1988), Hanslick (1992), Dudeque (1996), Schoenberg (1996), Oliveira (1998), Menezes (2002) e Zuben (2004). The last part evaluates the procedures of the composer through what was observed in the analyses, presenting compositional solutions and techniques he creatively used to incorporate significant elements of the classical guitar idiomatism, influencing the process of writing and his compositional style
The last part evaluates the procedures of the composer through what was observed in the analyses, presenting compositional solutions and techniques he creatively used to incorporate significant elements of the classical guitar idiomatism, influencing the process of writing and his compositional style.
Cotesia flavipes is an endoparasitoid wasp introduced in Brazil to biologically control the host Diatraea saccharalis, commonly known as the sugar cane drill. These insects have been reared for more than thirty years in Brazil, in massal rearing creation laboratories. In times of good female productivity in massal rearing creation laboratories, the parasitoids are used immediately after emergence. Though, in certain periods of the year, insect production presents a sex ratio towards males, so the insects are used after 24 hours in order to guarantee copulation. The objective of this work was to compare the efficiency of C. flavipes of three ages (0, 24 and 48h) in the parasitism of 5th instar D. saccharalis with a density of three hosts. Three hosts were offered to a female parasitoid so that she would deposit eggs in a short time interval with a fixed density. The study verified that C. flavipes of all three ages was capable of parasitizing the three hosts offered for oviposition and also of generating offspring from them. Though, the host which received the wasps first deposit with 0, 24 and 48h of age, had the largest number of offspring. There was a difference in the number of offspring for the third parasitized caterpillar for wasps? aged 24 and 48 h, while newly emerged (0h) wasps parasitized the host D. saccharalis without generating offspring. Although, when the means for the three ages were compared statistically, offspring sizes were equal. Sexual bias was also statistically equal in all three ages and in the three deposits. We conclude that C. flavipes aged 0, 24 and 48 h are equally efficient in the parasitism of D. saccharalis.

The depositional environment of the Bigenerina humblei 1, Bigenerina humblei 6, and Amphistegina “B” 1 sands of the Hog Bayou field in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, was investigated. To complete the investigation, analysis of well log data, along with the preparation of structure, isopach, and fault plane maps, as well as cross sections, were completed for the four sands. Paleontological data and regional literature pertaining to deposition were also utilized.
The conclusions made for this study are based on interpretation of maps generated and the comparison of these maps with maps and models of modern day and ancient depositional environments. All of the three sands studied in the Hog Bayou field are concluded to be those that are representative of varying stages in the development of a deltaic environment. All information gathered and generated for the study area indicates depositional characteristics of distributary mouth bar, distributary channel fill, and channel complex sands. The Hog Bayou field is structurally based on growth faulting that interacts with many of the strata in the field. Growth faulting and its associated rollover anticlines prove to be the primary targets of hydrocarbon accumulations.
The conclusions made from this study can put to use in the interpretation of other analogous middle Miocene depocenters found along the Gulf Coast. The understanding of the depositional environment may ultimately lead to new discoveries in yet to be explored fields.

This thesis analyses the fictional war films produced in Fascist Italy from 1935 to 1943, from the Ethiopian war to the end of WWII. It argues that this genre functioned as a laboratory for the anthropological renewal of Italy in the Fascist totalitarian experiment. Fascist critics celebrated it as a cinematic and social model that had to be applied to the whole Italian film world, and whose on-screen features were to become the mirror image of an ideal Fascist society. After tracing the foundations of the Italian war film genre (critical debates, international circulation), the thesis interrogates the positioning of film professionals in relation to Fascist cultural policies. Lastly, it redefines the genre in terms of its interactions with Italian viewers and through advertisement. This thesis shows that war films of the period constitute a contested site serving multiple purposes for multiple groups. Relying primarily on archival material from Italy’s state archives and filmmakers’ private papers, this work presents several case studies of producers (Scalera, Bassoli Film), directors (Goffredo Alessandrini, Mario Camerini, Francesco De Robertis Augusto Genina, Romolo Marcellini, Roberto Rossellini), screenwriters (Asvero Gravelli, Gian Gaspare Napolitano) and reception of specific films. A study of the multiple responses to the demands of an aspiring totalitarian system, both from the point of view of film consumption and filmmaking, contributes to the historiographical debate on Fascism by broadening the parameters of the longstanding debate on popular consent for the regime. In addition, this work demonstrates the need to interpret these films in a transnational perspective and not as mere political and national products

There are lots of different elements that take part in the teaching/learning process in a foreign language. In this thesis the effect that the language previously learned by the pupil has in the mentioned process and the beliefs that are embraced about the linguistic are analyzed. The lack of world recognition of the African languages has taken us to the approach of how it would be the teaching-learning process of the Spanish for African native students in general, and Cameroon natives, (specially, the medùmba speakers), proper of a territory in which an European language (the French language) was implemented by a settling process. In order to do that, the phonetic - phonological and grammatical systems of the medùmba, the French and the Spanish are contrasted in the search of the potential obstacles, faced by the French-speaking student of medùmba mother language who is learning ELE. Additionally, the imaginary social is identified about the autochthonous and foreign languages statute among the teaching and students body in the Cameroon’s secondary centers, as well as the beliefs of the same groups, concerning ELE’s teaching - learning. Finally, on the one hand, the degree of proximity is verified among the social, linguistic and educational reality, and, on the other one, the beliefs on the languages and on the teaching / learning of Spanish.

Nowadays, the universal objective of learning foreign languages is the development of the communicative competence of the learners. Nevertheless, it is important to notice that the acquisition of that competence is not always guaranteed at the end of the learning process. In this regard, whatever the learning context, it is not surprising to find students who are not able to hold even a simple conversation in a given foreign language even though they have studied that language all through their secondary education. What goes wrong is one of the main questions that will guide this research. The results we have achieved and which are presented in further details in this Doctorate Thesis permit us to make proposals for pedagogically decisive interventions which aim at ameliorating the standard and quality of Spanish teaching/learning in Secondary Education and the training of teachers in Cameroon. This work is enrolled in the study line of learners’/teachers’ beliefs. This is a relatively recent research line in the SFL domain even though it took off in the area of languages’ didactic, precisely in the Anglo-Saxon tradition of research and education in the middle of the 80 thanks to the publication of the pioneer studies of Horwitz (1985) and Wenden (1986). This domain of study stipulates that most of learners’/teachers’ conscious or unconscious decisions, actions and conducts within the classrooms are based on their beliefs. This is why it is crucial to study in depth their importance on languages teaching/learning process.

Election campaign is extremely significant part of political process, when politicians are trying to sell their ‘product’ at any price. They must attract support from the public and in order to achieve it, they can use different types of political communications. It is important to choose the right style, the one that could reach the biggest amount of aimed public and help to gain their support. Media identifies and judges the style of election campaign of candidate: how many/ few tools are being used; what sort of message is desired to be sent- negative/positive, relevant/irrelevant; how he/she communicates with public, a lot/ little, pleasantly or tries to avoid a contact. Object of the assay- D. Cameron and G. Brown general election campaign, subject- a formation of communication style of D. Cameron and G. Brown during the campaign. The aim of this work- to elucidate the features of communication style of D. Cameron and also G. Brown‘s election campaign. There are main two hypotheses that will be tested: H1: D. Cameron, the leader of opposition, is using a negative information against G. Brown and his government during his election campaign; H2: G. Brown as a prime minister is using a positive tactic and expects to win elections again. The investigation shows that Cameron election campaign has been established gradually, in order to create a modern image of the leader of party, but failed to distance from M. Thatcher and her established brand. Electoral campaign... [to full text]
