This paper outlines the history of the development of Vietnamese business and Vietnamese businessmen and entrepreneurs community in Poland. This special period of history of development was to be divided into two main phases. In addition, this article has analyzed the factors affecting international entrepreneurship spirit and international entrepreneurship capacity of this Vietnamese business community here in Poland. These factors are well identified in the overview part of international startups and international entrepreneurship study. The study showed that these factors include: foreign market appeal, government policies, compatibility of business practices, and adaptability to foreign markets. In the research part of this article, these factors were taken to be reanalyzed for the Vietnamese business community in Poland and showed why Vietnamese people choose Poland to be a good place for family settlement and for doing long-term business. Moreover, the success factors and success barriers behind their business development compared to the community of Chinese businessmen and entrepreneurs who came to Poland just only several years later have also been clearly identified. The research results show that, to strengthen the position and to raise the business awareness of Vietnamese business community in Poland, to strengthen it into a more developed and unified community for the purpose of future sustainable development, Vietnamese embassy in Poland with all of its networks of partnership, Vietnam's foreign trade promotion and trade representative agencies, and the diverse Vietnamese associations in Poland, both for profit and non-profit, need to play an interactive role to support Vietnamese businessmen and entrepreneurs to understand indigenous business practices, to overcome language and culture barriers in a bid to better integrate with the Polish business and social environment.

The paper analyzes some features of Vietnamese immigration to the Russian Federation. We provide estimates of the number of Vietnamese citizens living in Russia, their distribution by region, and key areas of employment. The results obtained in the work are based on official data published by Rosstat, the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, as well as some survey data conducted by the authors of the article. We can say that despite the existence of an agreement on a “comprehensive strategic partnership” between Russia and Vietnam, the potential of Vietnamese migration remains underestimated. The structure of migration flows from Vietnam to Russia is dominated by labor and educational migration. However, in recent years Russia has lost some of its advantages, which were formed during the Soviet Union. Vietnamese migrants find new directions for migration. Among them are the countries of ASEAN, the USA, the countries of Europe. The main barriers to realizing Vietnam's migration potential in relation to Russia are the maintenance of an asymmetric visa regime, a decrease in the competitiveness of Russian wages, and high bureaucratic barriers to the entry of Vietnamese businesses into Russian regions. Additional risk factors are geopolitical tensions and the volatility of the ruble exchange rate. Nevertheless, it is noted that there is still interest from Vietnamese entrepreneurs to open a business in Russia. Opportunities for expanding Russian-Vietnamese migration ties may lie in the plane of the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Vietnam, ratified in October 2016.

The purpose of the article is to assess the role of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. on the Vietnamese economy. Methods were applied: system-structural, causal, situational, factor analysis, multi-level integrated approach, observations and comparisons, etc. Analyzed Vietnam’s business environment. It was concluded that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. contributes to the increase in Vietnam’s GDP, and Samsung Corporation as a whole makes a significant contribution to attracting foreign investors to Vietnam and creates opportunities for Vietnamese suppliers to join the global network.

Inspired by the theme of the World Customs Organization and its conclusion that ‘Trade facilitation initiatives and intergovernmental schemes of customs community have been providing logistics enterprises with many opportunities to join effectively and profitably in the integrated supply chains all over the world’, this analysis focuses on Vietnam Customs creation of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status. It aims to enhance global trade security and foster business competitiveness, promoting greater success in international trade and business. However, Vietnam’s logistics companies cannot readily benefit from the AEO program because they cannot meet the AEO criteria of high exports and imports volume (for Vietnamese traders) as well as a huge number of customs declarations (for Vietnamese customs brokers). Obviously, no Vietnamese logistics company has been granted AEO status since the beginning of AEO program. Shining a light on this, we can explore the reality of why Vietnamese logistics companies really have not benefitted from the current AEO program.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been important for Vietnam's rapid economic development. This paper investigates the ways in which Vietnam's SMEs have been affected by the ongoing internationalization of the Vietnamese economy and points out the challenges that lie ahead if the country's plans for further trade liberalization are realized. The basis of our analysis is a unique database on the activities of a large sample of Vietnamese SMEs during 1990, 1996, and 2002, with quantitative data about company operations, as well as qualitative information about the entrepreneurs' perceptions of the current business environment and their expectations about the future.

The Problem According to the Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs, 31.3% of businesses in Vietnam are owned by women, placing Vietnam at the sixth out of the 53 surveyed economies. Despite the prevalence of female entrepreneurship in Vietnam, little is known about the motivations, challenges, and success factors of those occupying this vibrant sector of the Vietnamese economy. Greater knowledge of how women entrepreneurs perceive themselves and the Vietnamese business environment could stimulate greater support for their personal and career development. The Solution This study aims to explore Vietnamese women entrepreneurs’ motivations, challenges, and success factors. This qualitative research study provides (a) a brief introduction to the business context and the role of women entrepreneurs in Vietnam; (b) findings on Vietnamese women motivation for to starting and running business, as well as the challenges they face, and factors contributing to their success; and (c) recommendations for government policies, business communities, and the development of female entrepreneurs in Vietnam. As few research studies on women business owners in Vietnam are available, this empirical study can contribute to more effective practice and further research on this cohort in Vietnam. The Stakeholders Recommendations provided in this study will help governmental policymakers, business communities, and female entrepreneurs in Vietnam.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore multiple stakeholders’ perceptions of leadership in Vietnamese state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Design/methodology/approach – The paper presents findings from semi-structured interviews that were conducted in Vietnam, with seven different stakeholders who had varying understandings of Vietnamese business leadership within the Vietnamese business context. All interviews were transcribed, then translated into English, and thematic analysis of the interview data undertaken. Findings – The paper suggests that there was a significant variation in Vietnamese leadership perceptions when compared to Western leadership practices, especially when considering the perceptions of those stakeholders with regard to business leadership in the Vietnamese collectivist cultural context. The themes presented include: SOE decision making and responsibility; SOE promotions and appointments; and SOE performance. Research limitations/implications – In the absence of studies of leadership in Vietnamese SOEs, and leadership studies in the Vietnamese culture in general, this research was deliberately exploratory and qualitative. Future mixed methods or quantitative studies are recommended to offer more generalizable conclusions. Practical implications – Implications are discussed that point to leadership changes in Vietnamese organizations, and at the individual level, to assist the Vietnamese government, SOEs, and future leaders. Recommendations are also made that are intended to assist foreign business investors and multinational companies operating in Vietnam, now and in the future, to improve their leadership capacity within this context. Social implications – Vietnam is a country in social and economic transition. Understanding the leadership practices and perceptions, especially how that might differ from leadership in Western nations, is critical for the success of organizations in Vietnam and, in turn, for the economic and social prosperity of the Vietnamese people. Originality/value – The paper contributes perceptions of business leadership in Vietnamese SOEs that have not previously been explored and should be, especially given this critical time of economic and social transition for the Vietnamese nation and economy.

<h1>The purposes of this study are to explore in detail the tacit business knowledge transfer process and the effective transfer method from founder to successor in Vietnamese family businesses. This study, using separate interviews of paired founders and successors in five Vietnamese family businesses, aims to contribute to the general understanding of such processes in South East Asian family businesses. This study confirms that the tacit business knowledge transfer process is an on-going process until the founder is unable to continue due to physical or mental health preventing further communication. In addition, it indicates that the mentor-mentee method is the most common method for tacit knowledge transfer process. Storytelling is also a common process; unlike traditional Western SMEs, use of formal documentation tends to be far less prevalent as a way of transferring knowledge. The findings of this study show that not all of tacit business knowledge from the founder is important to the successor. Therefore, a successor needs time spent alone to contemplate each tacit business lesson, before determining whether to absorb it. </h1>

This thesis examines the extent to which regulation theory provides an appropriate theoretical framework for analysing the development of capitalist economic relations and activities in transitional economies. The investigation uses secondary sources and information gained from interviews conducted with tourism business owners and managers in three Vietnamese cities: Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City. I find that through its recognition of firstly, the path dependent nature of regulatory processes and secondly, national and local scales as key sites in the regulation of global economic processes, regulation theory can be utilised in analysing the development of capitalist economic relations and activities in transitional economies. Nevertheless, the findings in this thesis also challenge and offer new perspectives on a number of the key concepts contained within regulation theory. Firstly, my findings illustrate how political imperatives play a much more significant role in the regulation of economic activity than acknowledged in regulation theory. In Vietnam, as a way of maintaining the state as the leading institution in the Vietnamese socioeconomy, the central Vietnamese state has historically ceded a significant degree of regulatory control over economic space to the local state. As a consequence, the local state has traditionally constituted the key institution regulating economic activity in local space. In the transitional Vietnamese economy, I illustrate that political imperatives are continuing to inform the practices of the central state in regulating nascent capitalist economic processes. I find that this is chiefly being articulated through the informal regulatory practices and capacity of the central state as it seeks to mediate capitalist economic relations between supra and sub-national actors and institutions. This runs counter to assertions within regulation theory where the regulatory power of the central state is chiefly derived from its capacity to enact a formal framework of regulatory forms to guide global economic processes throughout national space. Secondly, I highlight the importance of the social regulation of economic activity and how in Vietnam the cultivation of social ties with local state officials has historically constituted an important institutional mechanism regulating economic activity in local spaces. In the transitional Vietnamese economy, I find that among private tourism business owners interviewed in Hanoi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City, the cultivation of social ties with local state officials has continued to play an important role in the establishment and running of their businesses. Out of these findings, I adapt the conceptual framework provided in regulation theory and build a more appropriate analytical framework that can be utilised in examining how regulatory processes and relations are evolving in regulating capitalist economic activity in transitional economies.

This study examines the codeswitching (CS) practice of Vietnamese teachers in content-based tertiary level Business English classes, the teachers' accounts of and their students' perceptions of this behaviour. The study found that CS did occur in the observed classes and served particular purposes. The teachers indicated their support for this practice in their teaching. The students reported overwhelmingly positive perceptions of this behaviour, although they suggested that this practice should be balanced.

The ongoing transformation of centrally planned societies into market economies poses many difficult questions regarding large scale institutional reform. How far to go, how fast, and in which order? Until now, the debate has been mainly theoretical. As the reforms progress, however, we need to compare the theoretical predictions with the empirical evidence. Financial intermediation is one sector in which the gap between socialism and capitalism is particular large, and the development of commercial banking has often proved to be a bottleneck in the reform process. Empirical examination of financial reform is therefore urgent. This dissertation explores the development of the Vietnamese state banks during the early 1990s. It highlights the lengthy process of altering the formal model and informal rules governing the bank organizations. The official socialist ideology is the source of many problems. First, it means that state ownership remains, enabling the government to intervene easily in the banks’ operations. The ideology’s informal role is arguably even more important, because it leaves unclear how bankers should act when profit maximization conflicts with social responsibility. Uncertainty will prevail as long as bankers and banking authorities have only partially converted to a new set of norms. Accordingly, the formal financial sector will fail to florish.

English is the global language of business, trade, tourism, technology, science and politics. It is also the official language in many foreign companies (Kam, 2002) and proficiency in English is therefore an advantage for acquiring employment in foreign companies where the working environment is multilingual, professional and highly competitive. As a dynamic developing country in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has attracted substantial foreign investment since the introduction of Doi Moi or the Renovation policy in 1986. Over the last three decades, a number of foreign companies have established themselves in the country, creating numerous employment opportunities for young Vietnamese people, especially university graduates. These foreign companies originate from a range of countries and English has become the common language for employees who are required to have good communication skills within these workplaces (Roshid & Chowdhury, 2013). While previous studies have investigated employers’ perceptions of graduates’ English proficiency in the fields of manufacturing and engineering in Malaysia and India as well as the employment competencies that business graduates require in Vietnam, little research has investigated the influence of English proficiency on the employability of business graduates from private universities in Vietnam. The aim of this study, therefore, was to explore the influence of English proficiency on the employability of business graduates from private universities in Vietnam who seek employment in foreign companies. To best understand the nature of this phenomenon, qualitative methods were employed to collect data via interviews, focus group discussions and document analysis. Participants included policy makers, private university business undergraduates, business graduates who had sought employment in foreign companies, as well as managers and human resources staff in these companies. This study found that English proficiency strongly influences the success of business students who graduate from private universities in Vietnam and seek employment in foreign companies. Inconsistent internal triadic relationships between the university course materials, pedagogy and assessment procedures was also found to be an important influence on student success. Finally, the research highlights the external misalignment between student outcomes of English courses at private universities and the requirements of the foreign employers are. Based on the main findings, a number of recommendations have been suggested in relation to policies, universities, language teachers, and future research. The findings from this study will contribute to understanding the role of English proficiency and its influence on the employability of business graduates from private universities in Vietnam. This information could be used to assist lecturers and other university stakeholders to assess whether English programs in private universities meet the needs of foreign employers and amend them where necessary. Understanding the level of English proficiency required by foreign employers and the methods used to assess graduates’ English proficiency will support private universities and their undergraduate business students to better prepare for future employability in foreign companies. This knowledge will also be valuable for all universities in Vietnam and other Asian countries with a similar culture and English education characteristics. In addition, the findings may inform policies on teaching and learning foreign languages in the Vietnamese national education system.

Aim:

The purpose of this study is to explore the Vietnamese market for Electronic Road Tolls. Company X is a world wide supplier of electronic toll systems. They are focusing on systems that will reduce traffic congestion in cities or congestion created by road charge toll systems. Company X has been active in the South East Asia for over 10 years. Now they want to explore new markets in this region. The company is interested in developing countries where road infrastructure is expanding. Since Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia Company X is interested in if it is a market they should enter.

 

Research questions: 

Should Company X enter the Vietnamese market?

If yes, which entry strategy should be used entering this market?

 

Method:

To analyze Company X’s internal and external environment I have used different theoretical methods, PEST analysis, Micro / Macro environmental analysis and with the SWOT framework I have summarized recommendations based on the facts I have gathered. I have also investigated different entry strategies to see what is most suitable for a Company X. I have collected data via interviews, literature and internet sources.

 

Result & Conclusions:

Short term Company X has the opportunity to come in with their products into Vietnam with a co-operation with Competitor A. They will set up a test system at one toll plaza between the airport and Hanoi with two lane dedicated for EFC and Company X is their first choice if they are competitive. This will give them the opportunity to be first on this market to implement microwave equipment in Vietnam and an opportunity to set the standard in the country for the future. 

Suggestions for future research:

The empirical data in this thesis is mainly gathered from secondary sources. The information would have been more accurate with more primary data.

 

Contribution of the thesis:

This thesis shows that large investments in road infrastructure are coming up in Vietnam. This thesis also shows that currently there is low activity from competitors using the same technology and this was not previously known by Company X.

Background  Along with an impressive increase of individual incomes and expansion of middle class populations (Lee & Nguyen, 2017), Vietnam is an attractive market where the fashion category receives the high interest among young consumers. Noticeably, while Western fast fashion is considered as a cheap product in most developed countries, it is kind of an expensive item in the Vietnam context. Although previous studies show that Vietnamese millennials are fond of the products from the West, Vietnam is a challenging market that requires Western fast fashion brands to have an insight into local consumer preferences since the local consumer’ values, attitudes, and behaviors are changing dramatically. Purpose  The purpose of this study is to explore attitudes of Vietnamese millennials towards Western fast fashion brands related to country of origin (COO) as well as the symbolic values of these brands in the mind of Vietnamese millennials. It thereby helps the Western companies to understand the Vietnamese market in terms of fast fashion, discovering potential investment opportunities and propose suitable marketing strategies to enter this market.  Method  Following the purpose of this study, an exploratory qualitative research with an abductive approach was utilised. Specifically, in-depth interviews with open-ended questions were employed to have an insight into the participants’ attitude towards Western fast fashion brands. Additionally, after the interviews, the participant's opinions were captured for a visualization of attributes of Western fast fashion brands. Conclusion The research results show that Vietnamese millennials generally have positive attitudes towards Western fast fashion brands related to COO. Nevertheless, in this particular study, the emerging symbolic values include sense of beauty,  educational background, social status as well as self-identity. The study also points out its delimitations and limitations, offers various possibilities for managerial implications, as well as provides some suggestions for future research.

Key words:         Customer value, value-adding factors, e-commerce, apparel industry, Vietnamese market, customers’ perception.  Background:      Along with the development of many applications from Internet, Electronic Commerce (e-commerce) has changed the business scene in the global economy by emerging as a new, efficient channel of doing business. The apparel industry has also been approaching this way of doing business as an attempt to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations at various extents. In the Vietnamese market, Ninomaxx being well-known as leading fashion brand for young and proactive people is in the process of launching its very first online shop. However, the lack of information and the vagueness in regard to customers preference and shopping habit in the context of e-commerce leads to many difficulties for fashion companies like Ninomaxx. These lacking can all be traced back to one universal cause that is the insufficiency in understanding customers’ perceived value. Accordingly, it raises the authors’ interests to conduct a research of customers’ perception concerning customer value in Vietnamese apparel industry within the e-commerce context. Purpose:             The purpose of this thesis is to identify elements of e-commerce that customers perceive as value-adding factors in the context of Vietnamese apparel industry. Accordingly, thesis will examine how value can be created and enhanced for customers in the case of Ninomaxx and Vietnamese apparel firms in general. Method:              In this thesis, authors chose to collect and analyze data mainly through a quantitative approach. Prospective customers of Ninomaxx, whose ages were from 17 to 30, were the surveyed group. A questionnaire was employed to collect response from the group and was distributed in two ways: an online link and offline papers. Various nonparametric statistical techniques and one extensive model were used to analyze results of the survey. Conclusion:    From the perception of Vietnamese customers from 17 to 30 years old, there are 5 elements of e-commerce that are identified as very strong value-adding factors, namely, availability of information on the website, accuracy of demonstrating products’ color on website, seller’s ensuring products’ quality, seller’s trustworthiness and safety of using products. There are additionally 11 strong value-adding factors from perception of apparel customers in Vietnam. However, there is evidence of differences in customers’ response regarding their demographic characteristics and Internet usage. Apparel companies should consider accordingly in order to form the optimal strategy for e-commerce retail channel in Vietnam.

The dissertation focuses on Vietnamese culture from the perspective of the Hofstede´s model of cultural dimensions and also describes its development and the factors that shaped it. Emphasis is laid on Vietnamese business etiquette, which includes previously discovered evidence of a Vietnamese way of thinking and acting. Attention is also paid to the characteristics of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic, the static data related to this minority and evaluation of its integration. The goal of the research is to reveal the cultural differences between Vietnamese and Czech society and describe the influence of the Czech environment on original cultural values and habits of members of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic.

paper focuses on the exploration of the relationship between the market orientation of the managers/entrepreneurs of the Vietnamese software firms and their business performances. However, research on market orientation is a mature area of research in the Western nations‟ perspectives, there are little knowledge about how the entrepreneurs and managers in the transition perspectives get along with the market and how this process effect on the performances of their ventures. Results of this research show that there is a positive relationship between the market orientation of the Vietnamese software firms and their business performances. This research also reveals that firm size has an influencing role on the performance setting effect of the market orientation in the firms. Furthermore this research shows that in the case of the Vietnamese software firms, „organization wide dissemination of market intelligence‟ and „organizational responsiveness to the disseminated intelligence‟ has more influence on business performance. Results of this research contributes to the knowledge for understanding about how the managers and entrepreneurs in new markets are adjusting their focuses to the market and how such adjustments are contributing o the performances of their ventures.

"Research purpose: Korea and Vietnam are actively engaged in human resource exchanges and are economically interdependent. Many Vietnamese people study or export labor in Korea, and many Korean companies and private businesses hire Vietnamese employees while doing business in Vietnam, and many Korean employees are working in Vietnam. It would be better if the two countries could make up for and cooperate with each other in using human resources to expand good jobs, boost industrial growth, innovation, and economic growth together. Therefore, by analyzing the current status of human resources and cooperation in both countries for sustainable development, we would like to find out how to cooperate in a way that is helpful to both countries. Research motivation: Diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam, the relationship between Korea and Vietnam has grown significantly, including the volume of trade between the two countries, Korea's investment in Vietnam, the number of Vietnamese labor exports to Korea, and the number of Koreans staying in Vietnam. In the wake of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam last year and the upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership, both countries should now pay attention not only to quantitative growth but also to qualitative growth for sustainable development of the two countries. Therefore, the basis for this is people, and the author selected ""human resources cooperation plan between Korea and Vietnam for sustainable development"" as the subject of the study. Research design, approach, and method: Find out the current status of manpower exchange between Korea and Vietnam, and analyze the characteristics of manpower exchange, factors and problems affecting manpower exchange, and parts that need to be supplemented. Main findings: Among foreigners staying on work visas in Korea, the number of Vietnamese is 39,477, the second highest after Chinese nationals, and 27,286 are employed under the employment permit system, accounting for the highest proportion of the total employed, accounting for 69%. However, the Korean government has operated the employment permit system mainly in regulations, resulting in many side effects such as mass production of illegal residents, and even when returning to Vietnam after working in Korea, the experience of working in Korea is often not available in Vietnam. The number of Korean companies invested in Vietnam and Koreans residing in Vietnam also increased significantly. Korean companies are having difficulty securing the necessary manpower due to the strict requirements for issuing workingr permits, even though Korean companies need the role of middle managers in order to smoothly pursue their business in Vietnam. And the number of Vietnamese studying abroad in Korea and the number of Koreans studying in Vietnam are both increasing, and the number of Korean language majors in Vietnam is also increasing, but there is a lack of specific ways to utilize these programs after the end of their curriculum. Practical/managerial implications: In order to support employers suffering from labor shortages and Vietnamese workers in poor conditions, it is necessary to ease regulations on the employment permit system quota system and to help Vietnamese workers dispatched to Korea use what they learned in Korea after returning home. In addition, it is necessary to ease and implement the work permit requirements for Koreans working as middle managers in Korean companies operating in Vietnam. And after the end of studying abroad in Vietnam in Korea, it is necessary to find employment for companies lacking professional manpower, and to expand the provision of training opportunities at Korean companies for the increased number of Vietnamese students majoring in Korean."

Aim/Purpose: This study aims to provide a description of how flipped classroom was designed in the Business Computing (BC) course in order to adapt with the changes in the Vietnamese students’ learning needs, as well as social and technological developments that disrupt student’ behaviours and living styles. Background: The flipped classroom (FC) model is widely implemented, especially in the English language classes due to an immensely high demand in the Vietnamese market. However, there has not been any imperative published research on the impact of using FC models on higher education in Vietnam. The BC course was implemented the FC model across the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University’s campuses. The idea of using this model was to adapt with changes in social and technological developments. Methodology: A comprehensive literature related to the common pedagogy in practice in Vietnam was provided. This helped the design team of the BC course to understand the characteristics of the Vietnamese students and subsequently, offer a suitable flipped model that improves student’s engagement. A proposed method of using the design thinking (DT) approach while flipping a BC class was underlined. Contribution: The outcome of this study assists national educators in Vietnam to confidently embrace the FC concept as a model for pedagogical modernisation and advocate the real need to provide a dynamic learning environment. Findings: The initial conclusion showed that there is an existence of preparation for student’s study, especially during post-class periods. Recommendations for Practitioners: It is vital to conduct a rigorous student’s need and their learning styles before designing learning contents that matches with course learning outcomes. Recommendation for Researchers: In order to increase student’s engagement with the course content and materials, educators and designers may explore a combination of multimedia, pictures and narrative sources to enrich learning sessions while simplifying theoretical concepts. Impact on Society: Utilizing advanced technologies in teaching gives students advantages to interact and gain other skills that meet the demands of potential employers.
