Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the influential agents that led to the successful acceptance and diffusion of the Concerto clinical workstation at the Northern District Health Board. Design/methodology/approach The paper draws on Rogers’ diffusion of innovation theory to interpret and analyse the factors that enabled acceptance and successful implementation of the innovative Concerto clinical workstation. Findings The authors conclude that human factors (clinicians) and non-human factors (the software package) simultaneously influenced the ready acceptance of the innovation. The reason for the positive acceptance and full diffusion of Concerto as compared to iHealth is the increased functionality it offers and its ability to provide clinicians with comprehensive patient records over a period of time, which assists in making informed decisions regarding the treatment, discharge, hospitalisation and recommendations for the future well-being of patients. Research limitations/implications The study focused on only one district health board (DHB); therefore, the outcomes may not be representative of all DHBs. Practical implications The study has practical implications for clinicians, DHB members and public health regulators. The outcomes illuminate the “agents” that positively influenced the diffusion of Concerto. The regulators and the DHBs can use this as a benchmark to determine how to lead the successful diffusion of information technology (IT) innovation in the public health sector. Social implications The impact on society is evident in the paper, as the use of an innovation, such as Concerto, saves time taken by clinicians to make more informed decisions regarding their patient care. Originality/value This study contributes to new knowledge by investigating the diffusion process of IT innovation with an intention of establishing the factors that enabled this process.

Abstract (sommario):
Cities are places of countless logistics processes, i.e. the processes of flow of all kinds of resources: human, material, information. The basic problem of contemporary cities are factors limiting their sustainable development. Most of them originate from excessive congestion caused by individual motorization and road freight transport. In recent years, supply chains intensively develop and implement new information technologies. That aims at rationalizing the business logistics processes by improving the information flows which is followed by reducing the demand for physical resources and the reduction of processing time and costs. Because the cities are large areas of logistics processes related to the economic activities of enterprises, the purpose of this article is to answer the following question: how do new information technologies, used in logistics processes, influence the structure of resources mobility in urban areas and how they can help in solving problems of congestion in urban areas. The main assumption of the study is that information flows can partially substitute real flows, which leads to the main thesis of the research that new technologies which streamline the flows of information in B2B and B2C relation can reduce the demand for goods and human flows within the cities. That rationalization translates into changes of resources demand structure and thus a change in demand for their mobility. The study used analysis and deduction method based on the literature and real life examples in the field of information technology which are already in use and those that can be used soon in logistics processes. This field of research is underdeveloped because logisticians focus their research on economization of business logistics processes and do not pay much attention to how they can influence urban areas.

Abstract (sommario):
We introduce a risk management project teaching case where students work in consulting teams with a mentor from the information technology industry. The case describes in rich detail the issues and challenges confronting Linny, the owner and CEO of ACE Technologies, a New Zealand-based software-development firm, as she begins to implement an information technology data exchange trading link between a supplier firm in one country and a logistics company and large buyer firm in another country. Linny calls on Jade Consulting (student groups) to identify potential risks in the implementation process. Taking this case design approach introduces students to two levels of project management education. First, we introduce strategies and techniques to develop e-learning and face-to-face communication skills in a team setting. Second, students manage the stages of a "real" industry project with a mentor. Our findings are relevant for management educators and practitioners involved in project management.

Abstract (sommario):
Production logistics is an element of the logistics system. This article presents its basic tasks and the scope of support for information technologists. The advance in the development of IT systems gives a new form to production enterprises supporting professional management of all logistics processes. Thanks to modern IT technology, production enterprises have the possibility of transformation, which enables them to carry out a new range of activities. The Author highlights in the paper the revolutionary role of integrated IT systems using the examples of selected systems, whose efficient implementation enables covering the operational needs of production enterprises. Although in the case of logistics, information has always constituted the basis for management, it is now when, thanks to the suitable technology, it has become the basis for competitive logistic strategies. Information, apart from workforce, capital, materials, is one of the basic resources of an enterprise, while IT systems have significantly extended the opportunity to make use of information which serves not only building reports or lists, but also covering operational needs of an enterprise. Thanks to those systems certain pieces of information can be used repeatedly without paying attention to their relevance. Proper implementation and use of integrated IT systems currently constitutes the basis for business management.

Abstract (sommario):
This consideration of how innovation was exploited in primary processing industries during the period of the second industrial revolution draws on case material from frozen-meat and dairy-processing industries in New Zealand between 1880 and 1910, examining how entrepreneurial networks successfully created commodity chains for the exportation of produce to U.K. markets. Latin American commodity chains are considered as a counterpoint. What is suggested is that despite the absence of large-scale firms and significant foreign capital, New Zealand producers, relying on network-based organizational forms, successfully entered overseas markets, capitalizing on information sharing, rapid diffusion of technology, and loose alliances that exploited complementary skills and assets.

Abstract (sommario):
The primary research that underpins this paper seeks to explore the applications of blockchain technology on a specific international corridor and to draw policy implications for decision makers. To analyze the bottlenecks of operating on the New Silk Road and to identify opportunities for applying the blockchain technology on this corridor, a survey was conducted among main train operators and experts working on this route. These responses provide insight into the issues related to the adoption of blockchain technology from front-line actors. The top three challenges are lack of capacities, congestion at transshipment terminals, and slow border crossing. Through the application of blockchain technology, the operators are presented with opportunities for improved accuracy in the processing of data and information, higher reliability of information flows through failure-free transfer of information, and improved traceability of supply chains through irrevocable input of status information. Currently, 50% of the respondents have started to implement blockchain applications or have an actual interest to apply blockchain solutions. For a wider implementation of blockchain solutions, business models need to be developed allowing private and permissioned access that is accepted and open for parties involved. Policy makers should facilitate these digital innovations through flexible and harmonized legal regulations on an international level.

Abstract (sommario):
Information Technology (IT) is universally accepted as one of efficiency boosters. Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) around the world involve in IT implementation with the purpose to increase their service efficiency in catering business demands, especially for LSPs which operate in the areas of heavy trade activities. The activities create congestion which lead to deficient of LSPs performance and increase delivery time and total costs. However, the review of literature reveals that IT implementation met with productivity paradox. Thus, in order to examine how IT implementation influences the performance of LSPs in East Coast Malaysia, 81 LSP firms in the region were involved in this study. This study also investigated the moderating effect of LSP sizes on their performance. The findings reveal that IT implementation significantly influenced LSPs’ performance, but it happened vice versa for the moderator investigation. This study has bridged the literature gaps of IT adoption in such that it offers empirical evidence and new insights on the significant moderating effect of firm size in the relationships between IT implementation and logistics firm performance using Malaysian samples. Keywords: Information Technology, logistics service providers, performance, firm size, Malaysia.Cite as: Mohd Zawawi, N.F. & Abd Wahab, S. Abstract (sommario):
Introduction. The article is devoted to the formation of a theoretical concept about the loyalty of consumers in the distribution channels of finished products as some complex economic phenomenon. The article addresses the problem of distribution channels and their effective formation which is one of the utmost importance at present time. The results showed that distribution channels are an important link in the value chain, which contribute to achieving a balance of interests of functionally related businesses that ensure the delivery of goods from producer to consumer. It is determined that the recent changes in the activities of wholesale and retail intermediaries are associated with changes in purchasing behavior, the development of network retail, the emergence of new forms and methods of selling goods, the active use of information technology and online interaction. Goal. Development of conceptual provisions for business cooperation in marketing distribution channels. Results. It is substantiated that the traditional market space, dominated by the manufacturer, is evolving and is now taking the form of what is called a market space focused on distribution. It is proved that within this space there is a shift of emphasis from competitive relations between participants of distribution channels to relations of cooperation and partnership. This requires the development of new mechanisms of interaction in such distribution channels, taking into account the economic interests of their participants and ensuring consistency of action based on the concept of business cooperation. It is noted in the article that the need to expand the boundaries of interaction arises due to the need to increase the efficiency of enterprises through the possibility of using the skills, resources and assets of business partners. It is proved that cooperation in modern conditions becomes the basis for ideas generation, innovations development, and a source of sustainable competitive advantages that contribute to the formation of a unique strategic asset – a partnership network based on a long-term mutually beneficial relationships of business partners in the chain of created value. At the same time, the refusal to cooperate leads to differences in the interests, goals and functions of participants in marketing distribution channels, which entails conflicts and increases costs in the process of delivery of goods from producer to final consumer.

Abstract (sommario):
The formation of the digital economy and the information society requires a revision of traditional concepts of business management. The growth of the assortment and nomenclature of material values, a complication of their accounting reflection in the enterprises of logistics business necessitates the implementation of a new logistics system of chaotic storage. The article substantiates the expediency of the evolutionary replacement of the technology of automated identification of material values (bar code for radio frequency) in the conditions of organization of warehousing on the principles of chaotic storage, which requires improvement of accounting at modern enterprises. The purpose of the scientific research is to develop organizational and methodological provisions for the accounting of material values at the warehouses of enterprises in the conditions of implementation of a logistic system of chaotic storage and the use of radio frequency identification technology to optimize the automated warehouse management. The experience of the chaotic storage of material values by Amazon Corporation and the systematization of literature sources for the introduction of a new concept of logistics flow management showed the lack of scientifically reasoned proposals and practical developments in the automation of accounting of storage and movement of material values. The peculiarities of the organization of accounting and management of the movement of material values in the logistic system of chaotic storage are investigated in the article. The documentation procedure and documenting the logistical operations of the movement of material values using radio frequency identification technology have been developed. The technique of inventory control over the storage of inventory objects in the conditions of automation of warehouse management has been improved. The choice of the method of the identified estimation of receipt and disposal of material values for optimization of the warehouse stocks of the enterprises in the logistic system of chaotic storage is substantiated. The practical significance of the conducted research lies in the possibility of implementing a logistic system of chaotic storage with the use of technology of radio frequency identification of material values at enterprises, which will provide: automated without the direct participation of accounting personnel collecting accounting data on the movement and storage of material values; permanent automated inventory of objects to control their storage; optimization of management of logistic processes based on the use of robots-conveyors for the automated movement of inventory from warehouse positions to destinations; electronic documentation and documentation procedure in the warehouse accounting system of enterprises; reducing inventory levels with lost consumer value (shelf life) or low market demand, etc. The results of the study may be useful for enterprises that are focused on innovative management techniques, regardless of ownership, size of the business, or industry. Abstract (sommario):
Cycle economy is not only ecologically reasonable but also a chance for new business. Selling utilization instead of selling products is advantageous once additional costs for information processing and logistics are less than costs for underutilized capacity. A competitive provider offers product functionality in quality, time and location as required by the user. Lifetime component monitoring is conditional for this performance. Modern microelectronic technology enables the acquisition of component deterioration with sensorial devices, information processing and storing with microcontrollers and initiating appropriate actions such as maintenance. The architecture of a microsystem called the life cycle unit (LCU) for product and component monitoring is introduced and specified. Product examples illustrate some application areas.

Abstract (sommario):
Radio frequency identification(RFID) is high technology, which can rapidly and real-timely acquisition information and accurately deal with information. And it has broad application prospects in retail, logistics, transport and other fields. Service oriented architecture(SOA) is a service-oriented architecture, which is used to design and realize the loose coupling software. For the existing shortcomings of current enterprise information system integration, the RFID technology and SOA are introduced into system integration in order to propose a new enterprise information system integration scheme in this paper. In the proposed system integration scheme, the middleware uses the business documents as the carrier of data exchange among other enterprise application systems, and the data stream technology is used to filter and package RFID data. The rule parsing technology is used to control the business processes. The SOA is used to realize the loose coupling and integration of RFID data event and application system, and deal with the configuration of the components. At the same time, .NET Remoting technology is used to realize the distribution architecture of middleware in order to ensure the deployment flexibility of middleware. The applied cases of a demonstrative application system, blood management and traceability system are used to illustrate its feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed integration scheme. The enterprise information system integration scheme provides an effective solution for system integration between different enterprises or internal enterprises. It can solve the compatibility between different application systems, and takes on the higher service efficiency, less CPU average occupation and better average response time. This study provides a stable and effective solution for information sharing between enterprises, improves the work efficiency and reduces the whole work management capital, and continuously improves the informatization level of the enterprises.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This paper aims to highlight four features of value co-creation among actors in a business-to-business environment. Service-dominant (S-D) logic of marketing is used as a theoretical lens to view at the process of value co-creation. Design/methodology/approach Using an interpretive methodological approach, the authors collected empirical material from a single case based in New Zealand. The case was based on the collaboration, interaction and relationship between vendor and client during an information and communication technology (ICT) systems integration project. The unit of analysis was “points of value creation.” Empirical material came from observation, in-depth interviews and documents such as meeting notes and email logs. Interpretation highlighted four features of the value co-creation process: motivators, outcomes, disadvantages and management. Moreover, personal and network aspects of value co-creation process emerged. Findings The findings of this study capture benefits, as well as conflicts and frustrations, in a value co-creation process. Furthermore, it provides future research motivations for researchers currently working to develop S-D logic of marketing. Originality/value It is suggested that there is relatively little direction on how value co-creation process should be undertaken in different contexts such as retail, education, health care and ICT. There is a need to understand the dynamics and specification of value co-creation process, as the literature is scarce in this field.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose Advances in technology enable companies to collect and analyse data, which were previously not accessible, to either enhance existing business processes or create new ones. The purpose of this paper is to document the role and impact of Big Data Analytics (BDA), and the Internet of Things (IoT), in supporting a large logistics firm’s strategy to improve driver safety, lower operating costs, and reduce the environmental impact of their vehicles. Design/methodology/approach A single case with embedded units intrinsic case study method was adopted for this research and data were collected from a “real-life” situation, to create new knowledge about this emerging phenomenon. Findings Truck telematics were utilised in order to better understand, and improve, driving behaviours. Remote control centres monitor live sensor data from the company’s fleet of vehicles, capturing the likes of speed, location, braking, and engine data, to inform future training programs. A combination of truck telematics and geo-information are being used to enable proactive alerts to be sent to drivers regarding possible upcoming hazards. Camera-based technologies have been adopted to improve driver safety, and fatigue management, capturing evidence of important driving events and storing data directly to the cloud, and BDA is also being used to improve truck routing, recommend optimal fuel purchasing times/locations, and to forecast predictive and proactive maintenance schedules. Research limitations/implications The type of data collected by Company A, and similar logistics companies, has the potential to greatly inform researchers investigating autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and the physical internet. Practical implications Eco-driving, a practice informed/improved by BDA at Company A, has been linked to reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, which bring both economic and environmental benefits. Technologies similar to Truckcam are growing in popularity in some parts of the world, to the point where it is now common practice to use dashcam assess of accidents to establish liability. This has implications for logistics firms, in other parts of the world, where such practices might not yet be so commonplace, and for drivers and society more broadly. Social implications Improvements in utilisation and routing have the potential to reduce traffic congestion, which is responsible for losses in productivity, increases in fuel consumption, air pollution and noise, and can incite stress, aggression, anger and unsafe behaviours in drivers. Predictive analytics, which generate refuelling and maintenance schedules, have the potential to be adopted by all vehicle manufacturers, and could generate reductions in customer fuel costs, whilst improving the performance, efficiency, and life expectancy of future motor all vehicles. The high probability of occupations in the logistics industry being replaced by computer automation in the near future is also discussed. Originality/value The findings from this research serve as a valuable case example of a real-world deployment of BDA and IoT technologies in the logistics industry, and present implications for practitioners, researchers, and society more widely.

Abstract (sommario):
This article describes how digital disruption transforms all industries, leading to new business models based on the new technologies. In manufacturing, one model for digital disruption is Industrie 4.0, supported mainly in Germany. Proposals for Industrie 4.0 involve the virtualization and vertical and horizontal integration of the value chain, digital services, the digital transformation of products, the digital transformation of production equipment, the digital transformation of factories and supply chains. Whereas the former two are already in place today, the latter is researched and developed. Products and production equipment will be transformed from physical to cyber-physical. Together, they will negotiate as peers over the Internet of Things and form smart factories. Via the Internet of Services, the entire supply chain will be integrated. The most popular business model is mass customization, according to which the customer order triggers production and logistics in the entire supply chain. Siemens intends to use information technology to migrate customers to tomorrow's digitalization.

Subject area Emerging markets, business models, information technology. Study level/applicability This case is designed for MBA groups or students from MSc in Management, International Business, Logistics, Information Systems or Environmental Management programs. It can be covered in courses on Strategy, Process Management, International Business, Process Management, Supply Chain Management and Managing Information Systems. Case overview Returpack is a Hungarian company dealing with reverse vending machines (RVMs) that collect aluminum beverage cans, even in crushed form, based on a worldwide technology innovation. All RVMs are online and monitored and managed remotely. RVMs are mainly “fed” by the poorest, often homeless people, who are still motivated by the extremely low (less than 1 euro cent for a can) incentive that comes from the selling of the aluminum waste to recycling smelters. Based on the success of the business model in Hungary, projects were planned in the USA, Austria, Romania, and Turkey in 2013. However, beyond economic, legal and cultural challenges, a dramatic decline in the global aluminum waste prices early in 2014 questioned the return on investment at these projects. Advancements in the material-recognition technologies at waste sorting plants raise further questions. Expected learning outcomes Evaluating the business model innovation in the case by combining the different approaches of the business model concept with the knowledge on the recycling industry, the crowdsourcing method and the Internet of Things. Based upon this, students may identify and evaluate options for implementing the business model in and adapting to new markets, also by simulating these changes in a formal (numerical) business model. Abstract (sommario):
The investment decision was made last year, and after a time-consuming selection process and intensive negotiations, the contract with the general contractor was signed. The business segment Fixing systems of the fischer group of companies faced a significant investment in its logistics – the development of automation technology in the Global Distribution Center (GDC). According to the project schedule, the transition to the automated small parts storage with shuttle technology would take place in December of this year. It was mid-April, and therefore the right time for the Head of Logistics of the business segment fischer Fixing systems, Matthias Wehle, to describe the current status: Were all the important milestones achieved and would the subsequent steps ensure a smooth transition? The employees in the logistics got accustomed to changes over the years. Structural changes such as the introduction of SAP R/3 in early 2000 and the establishment of the automated high-bay warehouse in 2008 had been successfully implemented. It was the same with the continuous improvement process through the use of the fischerProzessSystem fPS. The introduction of pick-by-light technology for the picking of small sized products with high demand had worked well, too. But the last staff meeting about launch of the shuttle system had left with him a feeling of uncertainty. He could already feel the spirit of optimism from some of the employees triggered by the upcoming introduction of the new system. The majority, however, listened patiently and Mr. Wehle sensed insecurity among the employees – how does this change affect me? Up until now, management had used multiple channels to communicate information to the employees. But feedback from the workforce to those in charge was rather rare. And the logistics manager remembered that the use of pick-by-voice for picking had been stopped for a number of reasons. Now as a result of the largest investment in recent years, the GDC faced a drastic operational change. With this in mind, Mr. Wehle pondered over the issue of employee communication again and again. And they had eight more months in order to take action until December…

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of the article is to analyze the current state of foreign trade in the industrial blockchain of the steel industry, the existing digital platform has gradually formed a large-scale heterogeneous distributed environment. The problems of further development of the metallurgical complex of Ukraine in the world electronic system of international cooperation are determined. Methodology. The survey is based on a blockchain technology is an interlinked systematic chain of blocks that contains transaction history and other user data. It works under the principle of decentralized distributed digital ledger. Results. Experimental tests prove that production companies, logistics, international payments and consumers can participate in the information certification of steel products via the modern information system. Consumers can understand the real product manufacturing process, effectively avoiding of the incomplete information and low transparency in the traditional information traceability process, and effectively trace the quality of steel products. The system provides an effective payments scheme for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the modern technology steel industry. Practical implications. In view of the low transparency of information traceability of current steel products and the defects of information islands, in this article the blockchain-based steel smart contract payment technology quality traceability system is developed and adopted the alliance chain mode and the new digital blockchain platform. The article describes the use of smart payment technology in a full-fledged financial transaction as a transfer funds in cryptocurrency to electronic bank accounts, as well as the transfer of commercial information, including contracts. To do this, the assets and terms of the contract are encoded and placed in the block chain, then the contract is distributed is saved on a set of network nodes and is executed after the condition is triggered. The fulfillment of the obligations of the parties is checked automatically. It is worth noting that the fact that smart contracts only react to transactions. If the asset or the currency is transferred to the program, it starts monitor compliance with the terms of the contract. How as soon as they are fulfilled, the seller receives money, and the buyer is a shipment goods. Value/originality. Blockchain technologies enable the use of business information systems that are highly resistant to technical failures and malicious attacks. Costs and time of carrying out business operations are significant.

Abstract (sommario):
The Smart City Concept throughout all its current definitions is essentially a system that uses state-of-the-art ICT to provide and process information, to adapt and learn. The Internet of Things and advances in affordable sensor technology play an additional important role. The net result of the “smartification” of a city is the creation of a living, networked system of assets, devices and infrastructure. This living system continuously collects data that enables the system to learn and evolve. This is nothing new or path-breaking. In logistics and the manufacturing industry, this concept has been widely implemented to optimise supply chains, from predictive maintenance, to dynamic route optimisation and online business intelligence (BI). “Industry 4.0” has evolved from a buzzword to everyday reality. Moreover, these technologies do not just “electrify” existing processes – they enable new processes and beyond that even completely new business models that would not have been feasible with the pre-Industry-4.0 technology. Particularly the advent of in-memory business analytics that enables BI from the original transaction data in an on-demand/online fashion has facilitated this development. Now, the public sector is discovering these technologies for its own purposes. This contribution attempts to show the parallelism, but also differences between smart cities and Industry 4.0, where learning effects may occur and known pitfalls may be avoided.

Abstract (sommario):
Construction firms in regional areas face considerable challenges to their competitiveness. Logistics, availability of suitable personnel, unfamiliarity with trading partners, and the tyranny of distance conspire to obstruct profitable engagement beyond their local area. Electronic information and communication technology (ICT) such as web-based project management applications and other forms of collaborative data sharing have the potential to mitigate many of these obstacles, but have yet to gain widespread acceptance, particularly by smaller regional firms who question their cost effectiveness. The attitudes of decision-makers and the impact of their decisions on intra- and inter-firm culture lie at the heart of ICT-mediated innovation. This paper presents a case study of a specialist subcontractor located in regional New South Wales and its involvement in a New Zealand project, whose competitiveness arose from using ICT to integrate its own supply chain. It also provided additional value by triggering collaboration and integration in the broader project team. The case reveals that these outcomes were symptomatic of the organisational culture of the subcontractor, and were achieved through a combination of leadership, collaboration, flexibility and pragmatism, redolent of dynamic capabilities.

Abstract (sommario):
The 2018 Restaurant Association Hospitality Report [1] shows Kiwis are eating out more often, for a wider range of occasions. The latest report finds that nationwide sales for the hospitality industry have continued to grow, with takeaway food recording the highest growth. In 2018, New Zealand’s hospitality sector achieved record sales of over $11.2 billion (year end, March). This represents sales growth of 3.6 percent over the previous year, which after two years of significant growth (8.2 percent from 2016–2017 and 9.7 percent from 2015–2016) settles at a more stabilised level in 2018. Conversely, EFTPOS data shows that grocery sales are continuing to slow, pointing to people eating out more often, replacing meals that may traditionally have been eaten at home. Over the past five years, there has been a slowdown in year-on-year supermarket sales growth from 4.9 percent in 2014 to 3.9 percent this year [2]. A recent My Food Bag and Stuff survey showed that only 52 percent of parents now eat at home every night. Statistics NZ data [3] shows that more than a quarter (26 percent) of all food spending is now at restaurants and on ready-to-eat meals, such as takeaway hot drinks and takeaway pizzas (compared with 23 percent in 2014). The takeaway/food-to-go sector is recording the highest growth. Sales for the food-to-go sector grew 5.7 percent in 2018. In dollar terms, this translates to an increase in annual sales of $148 million. But it seems we Kiwis are still hooked on dining out, with restaurants and cafés the biggest winners and accounting for $5.6 billion of all hospitality sales. Consumer spending is highest in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. These three regions all have annual sales of more than $1 billion per annum. The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) forecast an annual employment growth for the hospitality sector of 2.7 percent per annum through to 2026. For the period 2016–2017, however, the industry achieved employment growth of almost three times that, at 6.8 percent. The total number of people employed in hospitality is now just under 130,000, with more than 72,000 in restaurants and cafés. Hospitality business owners rank their number one challenge as the lack of skilled employees, followed by managing wage costs. This competition for skilled employees has the potential to drive wage rises in some regions, although operators also look for creative ways to retain employees to ensure their labour costs are kept under control. Wages have the potential to rise beyond customers’ expectation of price rises, and that’s a challenge and a balancing act that hospitality business owners must face. The challenge for hospitality owners to find staff is compounded by the number of new businesses opening every week, although to a certain extent this is offset by a comparable number of businesses closing. In 2017, while more than 2,700 new businesses opened, due to those closures, the volume of new outlets overall was an increase of 534 new establishments. The hospitality industry has performed exceptionally well in recent years and, although 2018 sees more restrained growth, the industry is well positioned to face the challenges of its competitive operating environment. Although a more cautious outlook is expected for the remainder of 2018, there are also opportunities for operators – particularly for those that deliver an exceptional offering to customers and for those that embrace both changing consumer dining trends and developments in technology to help grow their businesses. Highlights: Nationwide sales for the hospitality industry in 2018 (year end, March) increased by 3.6 percent, to exceed $11 billion. The sales growth in 2018 carried across all sectors, excluding the clubs sector, with takeaway/food-to-go recording the highest growth of 5.7 percent. Regionally, revenue growth in the Bay of Plenty region was highest for the second year in a row at 6.8 percent, followed by Auckland at 5.1 percent. In 2017, the number of hospitality businesses nationwide increased by 534 to 17,328. The industry currently employs almost 130,000 people. The top challenges identified by the industry are a lack of skilled employees, wage costs, and building and maintaining sales. Abstract (sommario):
This special edition of Information Technology in Construction is focuses on new realities in construction. The editors have curated a series of papers intended to provoke speculation on the potential future of construction in the 21st Century and beyond. This edition grew from ConVR 2018: Evolving Construction, a conference held in Auckland, New Zealand. Where researchers reported on ideas, innovations and applications for virtual and augmented reality for construction. Authors of excellent papers were invited to extend their submission for publication in this special edition. Thus, this issue presents a glimpse into the state of research focused on construction and specifically the topic of ‘virtual and augmented reality’ in its broadest sense. The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector is age-old, comprises a variety of stakeholders and professions and is worth trillions of dollars globally. It is also a fiercely complex and risky business, which is highly regulated, because of this, change and innovation can occur slowly. However, we are now in the 21st century, a century that has come to be defined by fast changing technology. What are the implications for the AEC industry?

Abstract (sommario):
The Internet of Things (IoT) gains momentum. Developments regarding smart grids, intelligent transportation systems, and low-power networks for smart cities constitute significant drivers in the evolution of network industries. IoT creates an array of new requirements for information and communications technology (ICT) data transmission: In addition to real-time and data geopositioning, new service characteristics result from the change of the traditional sender–receiver perspective of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to content relevancy for many users (e.g. cloud computing) and dynamic changes of the state of devices. The future development and success of IoT hinges critically on the provision of heterogeneous quality of service (QoS) requirements which cannot be provided by best-effort TCP/IP Internet. It is thus not surprising that both in the US and the EU network neutrality regulations are currently being reconsidered. Alternative network logistics (virtual networks) dealing with heterogeneous QoS requirements of network traffic may require fundamental deviations from traditional Internet architectures. Corresponding logistics operating over joint physical infrastructures gain increasing attention under the heading of future networks (FNs). The goal of this article is to focus on the economic mechanisms of how the potentials of QoS differentiation in the context of FNs can be fully exploited and incentivized within innovative all-IP-based QoS traffic architectures.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe use of information technology (IT) in the health sector is critically important for enhanced patient care and ultimately cost savings. However, the uptake of IT in health has been slow when compared with other industry sectors, due to the range of issues and IT inconsistencies associated with the needs of its stakeholders. This study explored the challenges experienced by 108 New Zealand medical practitioners in their IT interface with other key primary and secondary health providers. We found IT interface challenges were negatively related to e-business activity (receiving) but held no effect on e-business activity (sending). Further, we tested for and found significant moderating effects of practice size, based on patient numbers. Large practices were able to buffer the negative influence of IT interface challenges on e-business activity (receiving), while small practices were severely hampered by IT interface challenges. The implications of operating in a modular industry structure are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is in a unique position internationally. This Central Government organisation houses New Zealand’s national mapping agency, hydrographic authority and geodetic survey office all under one roof. This gives the organisation the opportunity to think broadly about future directions and leverage a combined centre of expertise and skills, across the three disciplines, nationwide.</p><p>In 2007, LINZ launched the Geospatial Strategy to improve coordination, sharing and use of geospatial data across New Zealand’s government entities. The Strategy had four goals &amp;ndash; good governance across the system; creating and maintaining key geospatial datasets; accessible and useable Government geospatial data; and interoperability.</p><p>Since then, LINZ has begun a 10-year programme of work &amp;ndash; Mapping New Zealand 2025 &amp;ndash; to deliver the mapping, data and expertise needed to address some of the most significant challenges facing the country, now and in the future &amp;ndash; firstly resilience and climate change, secondly urban growth and thirdly water. These three challenges prioritise LINZ’s work under its 2017 Outcomes Framework. The vision is seamless land and sea mapping, from the top of Aoraki/Mount Cook to the edge of the continental shelf.</p><p>Mapping New Zealand 2025 brings together initiatives, leadership and investment, and builds on core LINZ expertise in mapping and charting, data partnerships with other organisations and new technologies to deliver this programme.</p><p>This paper will give an outline and update on the five major components that make up the Mapping New Zealand 2025 work programme.</p> <ol><li>Improving New Zealand’s Bathymetry Data &amp;ndash; Decision-makers around the world are increasing their use of marine information to tackle issues such as the sustainability of ocean resources. LINZ is working with national and international organisations on projects to drive improvements in New Zealand’s depths information and to map the world’s ocean floors. Coupled with international projects, LINZ is also focusing on local initiatives such as building relationships and partnerships to ensure valuable New Zealand marine data is collected efficiently, is more accessible and reusable. The organisation is also now coordinating retrieval of data, samples and reports from international vessels undertaking marine science research in New Zealand’s Exclusive Economic Zone, Territorial Sea and Continental Shelf.</li><li>National Elevation and Imagery Partnerships &amp;ndash; Aerial imagery and elevation (LiDAR) are foundational data infrastructure for New Zealand, with many critical applications. LINZ operates a successful partnership model for procuring and publishing aerial imagery across New Zealand, an initiative begun after the Canterbury earthquakes, when imagery over Christchurch was in great demand, but not accessible. The initiative has made aerial imagery of the entire country available to all, under a creative commons licence. LINZ has also recently established national coordination of elevation (LiDAR) data to maximise its value to New Zealand. Coordinating procurement partnerships and publishing data for open reuse are the focus of this ambitious initiative.</li><li>Mapping the coastal zone &amp;ndash; New Zealand’s coastal zone is of great economic, social and environmental importance, and it is where climate change processes will impact the most. Fit-for-purpose coastal mapping is essential to modelling and decision-making that help us adapt and mitigate risks to our communities, individual property and infrastructure. LINZ is undertaking a one-year pilot as an initial step towards determining the needs for, and benefits of, improved coastal mapping. The pilot is stocktaking existing datasets that map parts of the coast (or intertidal or littoral zone) and identifying a fit-for-purpose reference frame for analysing data. The work will then move on to investigate the products needed to improve coastal mapping and decision-making and develop a prototype tool for mapping and visualisation.</li><li>Joining land and sea data &amp;ndash; Currently in New Zealand, elevation and depths datasets are captured to a range of reference surfaces and datums, limiting our ability to merge them together. The largest challenges are across the coastal zone, where LINZ is working with the National Institute of Water &amp; Atmospheric Research (NIWA) to develop a tool for ‘seamless’ linking of land and sea data. This project is being run in tandem with improving coastal mapping mentioned above, as the definition of tidal surfaces (such as mean high-water springs) are limited by the accuracy of digital terrain models and the ability to connect tidal surfaces to the coast. This project will also deliver an improved national tidal model. New Zealand’s current model was developed between 1996 and 2000 and is built on a now obsolete platform. The updated model will be recreated on a new platform and be able to use 20 additional years of data and improvements in global modelling technologies.</li><li>Maximising the benefits of Earth observation data &amp;ndash; 2018 saw a greatly increased awareness of the potential applications of Earth observation data and technologies in government, industries and research in New Zealand. LINZ is joining with major stakeholders such as the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Space Agency, Venture Southland and the Centre for Space Science Technology to develop a national strategy for maximising the benefits of Earth observation. Aside from this national focus, LINZ will work on how best to utilise Earth observation in our own activities, in areas such as using remote sensing to map our built environments and understanding potential applications for interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), which uses radar images of Earth’s surface collected by satellites to map ground deformation.</li></ol><p> Each of these five projects are at different stages of maturity. The presentation will cover off what each project has accomplished to date. We will present what the future holds for the programme and how Mapping New Zealand 2025 will allow LINZ, and the wider New Zealand community, to think and work differently.</p>

Abstract (sommario):
Background Information and communication technology (ICT) is an essential element of modern “smart” cities. These smart cities have integrated housing, marketplace, public amenities, services, business, and transportation via ICT. ICT is also now widely used in urban health care delivery. Objective The aim of this study was to determine the positioning and roles of ICT in community pharmacies in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2018 to January 2019 across 9 different subdistricts in the state of Selangor, including Subang Jaya, Cheras, Puchong, Port Klang, Kota Kemuning, Selayang, Chow Kit, Ampang, and Seri Kembangan. A total of 90 community pharmacists were approached from the 9 subdistricts and invited to participate in the study. Results Of the 90 community pharmacies approached, 60 agreed to participate in the study, representing a response rate of 67%. The majority (36/60, 60%) of the respondents were women, and more than half (32/60, 53%) of the community pharmacies were run by young adults (ie, 30 years old and younger). More than three-quarters of the community pharmacies (46/60, 77%) used electronic health records. Half of the community pharmacies used online social media platforms for advertising and promoting their pharmacies. The vast majority of the community pharmacies (55/60, 92%) were using modern electronic payment systems, and some were also using other new electronic payment methods. Moreover, most of the community pharmacies (41/60, 68%) were using software and programs for accounting and logistics purposes. In addition, 47/60 (78%) of the community pharmacies used a barcode reading system for medicines/health products, and 16/60 (27%) of the pharmacies had online stores, and consumers could buy medicines and health products from these pharmacies via their online portal. In addition, 20/60 (33%) of the community pharmacies used at least one of the common online business platforms available in Southeast Asia to sell products/medicines. The telephone was the most commonly used means of communication with patients, although some pharmacies also used email, WhatsApp, SMS text messaging, and other communication platforms. Conclusions This study showed that the majority of community pharmacies in Selangor, Malaysia are using ICT for different purposes. However, there is still limited use of mobile apps to provide health services. Overall, community pharmacies have been adopting ICT apps for pharmacy services but the rate of adoption is relatively slower than that in other sectors of Malaysia.
