Abstract (sommario):
In recent years, statistical methods such as bibliometrics have increasingly intensified to analyse books, articles, and other publications. Bibliometric methods, as techniques to measure the information distribution models, are frequently used in the field of information science and social research. The main purpose of this article is to offer scholars a general framework for the comparison between positive and negative aspects of bibliometrics, on the methods and tools used. Therefore, both the strengths and the critical points will be highlighted, to obtain a complete and detailed overview of the entire argument. In the methodological part, a bibliometric analysis will be applied to various case studies, such as with the Generalized Error Distribution, analysing and commenting on the data, and using the Bibliometrix software. The results suggest that in the future there will be greater consolidation of bibliometrics, as the introduction of increasingly advanced technologies will create new tools and methods characterized by a high degree of automation and speed.

Abstract (sommario):
Universities are increasingly offering support services for bibliometrics, often based in the library. This paper describes work done to produce a competency model for those supporting bibliometrics. The results of a questionnaire in which current practitioners rated bibliometric tasks as entry level, core or specialist are reported. Entry level competencies identified were explaining bibliometric concepts, doing basic calculations and some professional skills. Activities identified by participants as core are outlined. Reflecting on items that were considered in scope but specialist there was less stress on evaluating scholars, work at a strategic level, working with data outside proprietary bibliometric tools and consultancy-type services as opposed to training for disintermediated use. A competency model is presented as an appendix.

Abstract (sommario):
The authors examine the possibilities of bibliometrics enhancing and complementing information and library processes to support scientific research: applying bibliometric analysis of science organizations’ document flows to monitor publication activities; using bibliometric methods to design and support scientific research in various subjects, and to organize certain library processes, e.g. collection development and user information demand study; and dating ofrelevant information. The authors focus on the bibliometrics fundamental importance for exploring processes of document information flows. They argue that the introduction of bibliometric procedures in scientific libraries would increase their status and make them actors of academic communication system. The examples are given of using bibliometrics for detecting fraud and adulteration schemes in science practice. The key methods and procedures of bibliometric research in scientific libraries are characterized. Main risks due to the introduction of bibliometrics into scientific research are defined. The authors emphasize the scientific libraries’ need for competent librarians which means developing continuous professional education system; within this context workshops and training courses, instructional aids and recommendations, training professionals at universities are also important.

Abstract (sommario):
Bibliometrics is a tool to evaluate and comprehend work. Its usage is steadily spreading to various disciplines. The main aim of this research paper is twofold. Firstly, to use bibliometrix as an R package tool to provide bibliometric information on 1,995 publications considered from the Scopus database. Secondly, to serve as a source for finding answers to new scientific questions through further research on engineering education for sustainable development. It is not hard to understand that higher education, especially engineering education, has a more significant role in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030. A review of research papers on engineering education and sustainable development published between 2010 and 2023 was conducted. The bibliometrix analysis identified the current level of research on Engineering Education for Sustainable Development (EESD). Through the results of this study, we have broadened our understanding of who, which, and what aspects of EESD, as well as possible research areas in EESD to explore. This study presents implications and recommendations for the people at the helm of authority in engineering education institutions and policymakers. They can play an instrumental role in developing a society with a sustainable future. Abstract (sommario):
Background. Bibliometrics are an essential aspect of measuring academic and organizational performance.Aim. This review seeks to describe methods for measuring bibliometrics, identify the strengths and limitations of methodologies, outline strategies for interpretation, summarise evaluation of nursing and midwifery performance, identify implications for metric of evaluation, and specify the implications for nursing and midwifery and implications of social networking for bibliometrics and measures of individual performance.Method. A review of electronic databases CINAHL, Medline, and Scopus was undertaken using search terms such as bibliometrics, nursing, and midwifery. The reference lists of retrieved articles and Internet sources and social media platforms were also examined.Results. A number of well-established, formal ways of assessment have been identified, includingh- andc-indices. Changes in publication practices and the use of the Internet have challenged traditional metrics of influence. Moreover, measuring impact beyond citation metrics is an increasing focus, with social media representing newer ways of establishing performance and impact.Conclusions. Even though a number of measures exist, no single bibliometric measure is perfect. Therefore, multiple approaches to evaluation are recommended. However, bibliometric approaches should not be the only measures upon which academic and scholarly performance are evaluated.

IntroductionA pilot study by 6 Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSAs) explored how bibliometrics can be used to assess research influence.MethodsEvaluators from 6 institutions shared data on publications (4202 total) they supported, and conducted a combined analysis with state-of-the-art tools. This paper presents selected results based on the tools from 2 widely used vendors for bibliometrics: Thomson Reuters and Elsevier.ResultsBoth vendors located a high percentage of publications within their proprietary databases (>90%) and provided similar but not equivalent bibliometrics for estimating productivity (number of publications) and influence (citation rates, percentage of papers in the top 10% of citations, observed citations relative to expected citations). A recently available bibliometric from the National Institutes of Health Office of Portfolio Analysis, examined after the initial analysis, showed tremendous potential for use in the CTSA context.ConclusionDespite challenges in making cross-CTSA comparisons, bibliometrics can enhance our understanding of the value of CTSA-supported clinical and translational research.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this publication is to show the continuity and development of the basic ideas of bibliometrics over the past 15 years. Continuity is essential not only in preserving the subject matter, but also in personalities: Dr. Ball, the organizer of the 2003 conference, is actively pursuing research in this area and his assessments of the prospects for bibliometrics are quite reasonable and clear. Equally significant is the role of the successor of support, training and promotion work, the company Clarivate Analytics in maintaining interest in the practical results of bibliometric research. It is very important that in 2003 there were outlined the essential limitations in the possibility of using bibliometric methods for assessing the quality of research of individual scientists. These warnings are still valid today. At the same time, many of the criticisms made at that time related to the monopolistic nature of the of Thomson Reuters, which is no longer so significant, since several competing systems have appeared. In general, we can assume that bibliometrics (scientometrics) have excellent prospects. Therefore, the establishment of practical work of libraries of all types, but primarily university and scientific-technical ones, on servicing with the bibliometric data can be an interesting and useful addition to the traditional reference and information services of libraries. Abstract (sommario):
EDITOR'S SUMMARYBibliometric evaluation for research in the field of sciences can be a good way to assess the quality and factual basis of claims and can lead to more funding for authors and for research work. However, due to the more diverse fields covered, this type of evaluation is less effective in the world of humanities. Many professionals and researchers in humanities fields believe that bibliometric evaluation is meant only for STEM research and can't properly assess any findings made in humanities. Four common claims made about bibliometrics in humanities are that bibliometrics do not adequately cover the non‐uniform nature of humanities; greater bibliometric coverage will not solve all the research problems in humanities subjects; metrics use already has an impact on humanities research practices and finally; other evaluation methods, like altmetrics, are conventional.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract There is often a lack of standardization in the publication of this type of bibliometrics and scientometrics studies, which makes it difficult to evaluate their validity and contrast the findings. Hence, inspired by the existence of different guidelines for other methodological designs, a group of Peruvian bibliometricians develop guidelines for the presentation of bibliometric and scientometric studies focusing on the three main types of studies used in bibliometrics and scientometrics: citations, number of publications, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence analysis and social network analysis, structural patterns, spatial distribution, etc. Bibliometricians, editors, and researchers collaborated to develop the RAMIBS guideline: Reporting and Measurement of Items for Bibliometric or Scientometric Studies for verifying the items that should be included in the reports of bibliometric and scientometric studies. This process of consensus, drafting, and review resulted in a checklist of 12 items that are related to the title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion of the articles. It is hoped that these guidelines will improve the quality of the presentation of bibliometric and scientometric studies, thus facilitating their reporting, evaluation, and application.

Abstract (sommario):
In the debate on scientometrics and bibliometrics, taking place in Poland in the last 25 years, a very serious methodical and methodological mistake has been committed by neglecting the reflection about the science of science, especially of historical and methodological character. The following article discusses this issue. This aim was achieved with the use of a method of interdisciplinary research originating from the scope of the science of science and the history of the science of science. This method was applied to the analysis of selected major publications on scientometrics and bibliometrics in the past 25 years, with special emphasis on Polish context. The results are discussed in the article, i.e. a) the context of the current debate on scientometrics and bibliometrics in Poland; b) the history of Polish scientometric analyses based on foreign indexation databases; c) the current discussion on scientometrics and bibliometrics in Poland and d) the key aspect ignored in the current debate, namely the inseparable connection of scientometrics and bibliometrics with the science of science. The study leads to the following conclusions: it is postulated that the informetric (scientometric, bibliometric, Webometric, etc.) studies return to the scientific discourse, which would be consciously developed in the context of the integrated science of science. This knowledge should be utilized in the development of the current science policy, i.e. the organizational structure of science and higher education and the formation of rules of appraisal of scientific institutions, individual employees and scientific journals.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Thanks to digital technology, methods for finding and analysing research literature have become dramatically more powerful over the last decades. Also, new bibliometric techniques have been developed and applied to the results of such literature search queries. The application of these bibliometric tools to mathematics education research, however, is rare. In this paper, we explore the value of these techniques for mathematics education research through triangulating bibliometrics and expert findings. To do so, we address the case of instrumental orchestration, and want to know how this notion developed over time and was used in research practices. The results show that bibliometric clustering techniques provided a sense-making sketch of the ‘landscape’ of instrumental orchestration research. Triangulating the bibliometric findings with expert interpretations seemed an appropriate method to set up compact ‘identity cards’. In the case of instrumental orchestration, we identified five main clusters in research literature, characterized by the following labels: Managing teaching complexity, Designing living resources, Teaching with technology, Adult learners, and Interacting with computers. The paper ends with some reflections on the potential of bibliometrics in our field and on future research on instrumental orchestration.

It is very popular in bibliometrics to present results on institutions not only as tabular lists, but also on maps (see, for example, the Leiden Ranking). However, the problem with these visualisations is that institutions are frequently spatially clustered in larger cities whereby institutions are positioned one above the other. In this Brief Communication, we propose as an alternative to visualise bibliometric data on the city rather than the institution level to avoid this problem.

Abstract (sommario):
Bibliometrics is the statistical analysis of articles, books, and other forms of publication. The bibliometrics analysis is performed with data on the number and authorship of scientific publications and articles, and citations to measure the work of individuals or groups of researchers, organizations, and countries to identify national and international networks and map developments in new multidisciplinary fields of science and technology. In addition, bibliometrics assesses and maps the research, organization, and country of researchers at a given time period. The Bibliometric analysis also has advantages which include mapping relationships between concepts, mapping research directions or trends, mapping state of the art (the novelty of the results of research conducted), and providing insights related to fields, topics, and research problems for future works. This study aims to determine the growth and development of N-BEATS publications, their distribution, variable keywords, and author collaboration using a bibliometric network. The research method used in this paper, through screening of articles obtained from the Scopus database page in 2008-2022, is used for citations in the form of metrics. At the same time, they are visualizing the metadata with VOSviewer. Data was collected from the direct science database with the keyword N-BEATS. The results show that 2022 has the highest number of publications, reaching 310 publications (14.90%). The distribution of research publications on N-BEATS shows a perfect distribution. Terms in the N-BEATS variable that often appear and are associated with other variables.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The Society for Pentecostal Studies celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2020. To commemorate the half-century mark, the editors of Pneuma assembled a special issue that included a history of the Society. While the fiftieth-anniversary commemorative volume captured the growth of the Society, absent was a consideration of the impact of Pneuma. As such, the fifty-year anniversary deserves a more quantifiable discussion of the journal’s impact on scholarship. By using a combination of information science and theological reflection, this article offers fresh insights on the journal’s impact in the realm of scholarly publishing. It fleshes out significant theological trends in Pentecostalism covered in its fifty-year history using bibliometrics. An index of all 710 peer-reviewed research articles published from 1978 to 2022 was created. Bibliometrics were used to assess that scholarship’s impact, understand where pentecostal studies flourished, and uncover possible gaps in pentecostal research where further study may be needed. Bibliometric research in theological studies acts as a mirror for researchers by quantifiably reflecting trends in pentecostal research that may have been anecdotally assumed or overlooked altogether. It places possible bias into sharp focus and offers new tools for discussing sensitive research and publication issues such as gender politics, diversity, and inclusivity.

Abstract (sommario):
To identify research funding patterns behind bibliometrics as a rapidly expanding science was the aim of the study presented in this paper. We analysed funding information of 8,622 bibliometric papers harvested from Web of Science, among which 1,786 (20.7%) were Papers with Reported Funding (PRFs). The trend in number of PRFs funding in last five years was positive. The most productive countries in PRFs` production were China, the USA and the UK. The same countries were also the most prolific regarding how many times they were mentioned in funding acknowledgements. The number of PRFs published per country was related with OECD reported Gross Domestic Spending on R&D for 2015. There was a significant correlation between number of PRFs per country and the number of all bibliometric papers per country. Far the most prolific funding agency was National Natural Science Foundation of China, followed by the European Commission and the USAs National Science Foundation. The Research trend and direction prediction is the most prolific research theme regarding the percent of PRF and thus most likely to get funded

Abstract (sommario):
Bibliometric studies allow us to observe and interpret the behavior and progress of scientific production on a topic. Thus, present research performs a bibliometric analysis of the research developed on community tourism. For this purpose, articles published in journals indexed in Scopus in the period 1983 to 2022 are considered; the search is restricted to (TITLE ("community tourism") OR TITLE ("turismo comunitario”)), which makes 124 items visible. The analysis is carried out using the Bibliometrix and VOSviewer software, which formally and thematically characterizes scientific production through bibliometrics. The indicators used are: annual scientific production and by country, productivity by type of institution, most cited articles, magazines with the most publications on community tourism, analysis of keywords and relationship with the topics, and finally, the main currents or trends of research. The results reflect that there is a trend in research in the field of community tourism: tourism sustainability, economic development, tourism linked to local development, indigenous communities, topics that will gain strength such as the use of platforms and social capital.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper explores ways in which open access bibliometric software can be used to undertake exploratory research and to generate new avenues of inquiry. It takes as its focus VOSviewer, a freely available software package used to construct and display bibliometric relationships between a variety of variables. Beginning with published examples, the paper proceeds to create an original case study using bibliometrics to explore the extent to which the field of remote sensing is contributing to the implementation of sustainable development goals. This example uses Scopus data and VOSviewer to examine and contrast co-occurrence data among publications in six journals, and it demonstrates how such software can be successfully used to undertake preliminary studies and to shape subsequent research which employs more formal approaches.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose Spatial bibliometrics and scientometrics have traditionally focused on examining both country and regional levels; however, in recent years, numerous spatial analyses on the city level have been carried out. While city-level scientometric analyses have gained popularity among policymakers and statistical/economic research organizations, researchers in the field of bibliometrics are divided regarding whether it is possible to observe the spatial unit “city” through bibliometric and scientometric tools. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the most significant challenges ahead of spatial scientometrics focusing on the city level by examining relevant scientometric studies. Design/methodology/approach This analysis involves the most significant spatial scientometric studies focusing on the city level and carefully examines how they collect bibliometric and/or scientometric data, what methodologies they employ to process bibliometric data and most importantly, how they approach the spatial unit “city”. Findings After systematically scrutinizing relevant studies in the field, three major problems have been identified: there is no standardized method of how cities should be defined and how metropolitan areas should be delineated; there is no standardized method of how bibliometric and scientometric data on the city level should be collected and processed; and it is not clearly defined how cities can profit from the results of bibliometric and scientometric analysis focusing on them. Originality/value This is the first study that compiles a “database” of scientometric studies focusing on the city level. The paper not only reveals major challenges ahead of city level spatial analysis but recommends some possible solution as well.
