Abstract (sommario):

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui efektivitas PBL terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Indonesia Bab 5, Teman Baru pada peserta didik Kelas I SD Negeri Wonotingal di Semester II Tahun Pelajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan jenis One Group Pretest Posttest Design. Peneliti berkolaborasi dengan guru kelas memberikan perlakuan terhadap objek penelitian dengan PBL. Objek penelitian ini sebanyak 27 anak, terdiri dari 13 putra dan 14 putri. Objek penelitian dibagi menjadi 9 kelompok kecil, terdiri dari 3 anggota dan komposisi anggota yang berbeda-beda dalam setiap pertemuan pembelajaran. Alat pengumpulan data penelitian ini adalah soal ulangan harian, terdiri dari 5 butir soal pilihan ganda dan 5 butir soal isian. Analisis data penelitian ini adalah uji prasyarat, uji beda dan N Gain. Uji prasyarat dengan Uji Shapiro Wilk untuk menguji normalitas distribusi data. Uji beda dengan Paired Sample t Test untuk menguji ada tidaknya perbedaan rata-rata antara dua sampel yang saling berpasangan. N Gain untuk menguji efektivitas penggunaan perlakuan. Hasil penelitian ini adalah PBL cukup efektif terhadap prestasi belajar Bahasa Indonesia. Data Pretest dan Posttest termasuk normal dengan signifikansi pada Pretest (0,107) dan Posttest (0,1) yang lebih besar daripada 0,05. Prestasi belajar pada Pretest sebesar 54,44 dan Posttest sebesar 77,41. Dengan demikian, ada perbedaan prestasi belajar yang signifikan sesuai dengan signifikansi sebesar 0,000 yang lebih kecil daripada 0,05 dan korelasi sebesar 0,953. Sedangkan rata-rata dari skor N Gain sebesar 0,5667, sehingga termasuk kategori sedang dan persentase dari N Gain sebesar 56,666%, sehingga termasuk cukup efektif. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of PBL to the first-grade students’ of Wonotingal 1 Elementary School learning achievement, Indonesian Language, Chapter V, the new friends, on the second semester of 2022/2023 academic year. This research was an experiment with the One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The researcher collaborated with the class teacher and gave the treatment to the objects of this research with PBL. The objects of this research were 27 children; consisting of 13 boys and 14 girls. The objects of this research were divided into 9 small groups; consisting of 3 members and different composition in each learning. The tool of collecting data of this research was the daily test, consisting of 5 multiple choices questions and 5 short entry questions. The data analysis of this research is the precondition test, the difference test and N Gain. The precondition test used the Shapiro Wilk test to test the normality of the data distribution. The difference test used the Paired Sample t Test to test whether any difference between the two Paired Samples. N Gain to test the effectiveness of the treatment. The result of this research was PBL effective enough to the Indonesian Language learning achievement. The Pretest and Posttest data were normal with Pretest significance (0,107) and Posttest significance that bigger than 0,05. The learning achievement for the Pretest was 54,44, and the Posttest was 77,41. There was a significant difference, according the significance that smaller than 0,05 and the correlation as 0,953. Meanwhile, the mean of N Gain score is 0,5667, including as middle category and the N Gain percentage is 56,666%, including as effective enough.

Abstract (sommario):

Several intermediate-growing, photochromogenic bacteria were isolated from sphagnum peat bogs in northern Minnesota, USA. Acid-fast staining and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis placed these environmental isolates in the genus Mycobacterium , and colony morphologies and PCR restriction analysis patterns of the isolates were similar. Partial sequences of hsp65 and dnaJ1 from these isolates showed that Mycobacterium arupense ATCC BAA-1242T was the closest mycobacterial relative, and common biochemical characteristics and antibiotic susceptibilities existed between the isolates and M. arupense ATCC BAA-1242T. However, compared to nonchromogenic M. arupense ATCC BAA-1242T, the environmental isolates were photochromogenic, had a different mycolic acid profile and had reduced cell-surface hydrophobicity in liquid culture. The data reported here support the conclusion that the isolates are representatives of a novel mycobacterial species, for which the name Mycobacterium minnesotense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DL49T ( = DSM 45633T = JCM 17932T = NCCB 100399T).

Abstract (sommario):

The author’s aim of the analysis presented in this article is an attempt at answering two questions: how high school students verbalize the lexeme sex, and whether it is possible to discern quantitative and qualitative differences in understanding and evaluating this notion by girls and boys. High school students were faced with three tasks concerning: 1. giving associations connected with the word sex; 2. listing adjectives collocating with the analyzed category; 3. constructing their own definitions of the noun. Both associations and collocations listed by the students appeared to be extremely varied and rich. They confirmed the opinion according to which every man treats sex differently and proved that young people are not afraid of their needs, desires or sexual dreams. Sex is not a taboo subject for them. Contrary to the associations, which abounded with an extremely large number of vulgar expressions, the definitions of the analyzed lexeme were, in fact, deprived of such attributes. Apart from a tendency to convey the word’s semantics precisely, the descriptions constructed by the high school students revealed emotionality. On the other hand, however, they showed changes in awareness, habits and social conduct of young users of the Polish language.

Abstract (sommario):

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the prevalence of tobacco use and associated factors influencing the use of tobacco among adolescents in a school setting. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted amongst Bhutanese adolescents studying at high schools in the district of Wangdue Phodrang in May 2016. A total of 378 eighth-grade students from four schools participated in the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions were carried out to describe the predictors of tobacco use. Findings Of the 378 student participants, 52.90 percent were girls and 47.10 percent boys. The age ranged from 11 to 19 years, and the majority lived in school hostels (82 percent). The prevalence of smoking was 10.80 percent while smokeless tobacco users constituted 11.10 percent in the month preceding the study. Gender, tobacco use by siblings and friends, ever having tried alcohol, consumption of alcohol in the last 30 days, previous experimentation with cigarettes/bidi and smokeless tobacco/baba (p-value <0.05) were significantly related to the use of tobacco among students. In multivariate analysis, tobacco use by friends (AdjOR=1.09; 95%CI=0.01–2.48), ever having tried alcohol (AdjOR=2.24; 95%CI=1.75–3.72), current alcohol use (AdjOR=2.63; 95%CI=1.52–4.31), experimentation with cigarettes/bidi (AdjOR =39.46; 95%CI=11.91–90.63) or with smokeless tobacco/baba (AdjOR=32.61; 95%CI=11.78–90.30) were observed as the strong predictors of current tobacco use among adolescents. Originality/value These study results re-emphasized the rising public health concern of tobacco use among younger boys and girls. The findings may help the Bhutanese policy makers and managers to better understand the present situation of adolescent tobacco use and its associated determinants, and formulate appropriate tobacco control strategies for adolescents.

Romanerna som ligger till grund för uppsatsens analys är Thomas Bailey Aldrich The story of a bad boy, Mark Twains Tom Sawyers och Huckleberry Finn samt Richmal Cromptons Just William. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka de litterära gestalter som tar sig skepnad i företeelsen "bad boys" och de frågor som ställs i uppsatsen är: Hur och varför uppkom företeelsen "bad boys"? Hur växte genren "bad boys" fram? Vad karaktäriserar "bad boys" företeelsen? Uppsatsens narratologiska utgångspunkter bygger bland annat på Mieke Bals teori om fabelns och de textanalytiska begrepp som Maria Nikolajeva redogör för: tid och plats, författarens och läsarens föreställning av författaren, samtid och tidsperspektiv. Uppsatsen tar även stöd i R.W. Connell, John Stephens och Kenneth B. Kidds teorier. Uppsatsen visar att "bad boys"-genren har sitt ursprung under en period då bilden av mannen var under förändring och romaner för pojkar blev allt mer robusta."Bad boys" – genren karaktäriseras av driftiga pojkgestalter som delvis formar sin identitet i pojkgänget. "Bad-boys"- genren är även en konsekvens av de ändrade förhållandena för unga pojkar i USA. Dessa pojkar sågs ofta som små vandaler och det är dessa som återspeglas i "bad-boys" genren.

It is in this alcoholic dawn, where pine disinfectant battles with stale tobacco smoke and the phantoms of last night’s beer, before the gaming-machine is illuminated, that Fat Laurie gives me his philosophy of life. We had been silently drinking coffee in his office when he had exclaimed ‘Going for a shit. Coming?’ I ain’t a villain, never have been. The motors is straight. I do deals with anybody gonna put money in me pocket, but everybody does that. I look at it this way: it’s Friday afternoon. All week I ain’t sold a fucking bean. I got the VAT and the tax on me back for money I haven’t got. I got a little sort I’m supposed to see later on and the wife’s in me ear. In my pocket I got nothing. I’m lending sandwich money off that old cunt who washes the motors. Then in comes some punter, not a mug, ordinary geezer like yourself, maybe out for a bit of a bargain. But when you come in I make up my mind that whatever money is in your pocket I have to have it ‘cos I am desperate.

Abstract YOUTH crime on the Satellite Estate during the early 1980s was rarely a matter of residents being systematically terrorized, caught in the crossfire of drug-trade-motivated inter-mob rivalry, as is common in the United States, and has started to occur in some of the inner cities of the United Kingdom. Instead the picture is of small gangs, some of whose members are as young as 12, engaged in various kinds of petty crime.

Abstract (sommario):

This paper presents simulated ignition delay (ID) results for diesel ignition in a pilot-ignited partially premixed, low temperature natural gas (NG) combustion engine. Lean premixed low temperature NG combustion was achieved using small pilot diesel sprays (2–3% of total fuel energy) injected over a range of injection timings (BOIs ∼ 20°–60° BTDC). Modeling IDs at advanced BOIs (50°–60° BTDC) presented unique challenges. In this study a single-component droplet evaporation model was used in conjunction with a modified version of the Shell autoignition (SAI) model to obtain ID predictions of pilot diesel over the range of BOIs (20°-60° BTDC). A detailed uncertainty analysis of several model parameters revealed that Aq and Eq, which affect chain initiation reactions, were the most important parameters (among a few others) for predicting IDs at very lean equivalence ratios. The ID model was validated (within ± 10 percent error) against experimentally measured IDs from a single-cylinder engine at 1700 rpm, BMEP = 6 bar, and intake manifold temperature (Tin) of 75°C. For BOIs close to TDC (e.g., 20° BTDC), the contribution of diesel evaporation times (Δθevap) and droplet diameters to predicted IDs were more significant compared to advanced BOIs (e.g., 60° BTDC). Increasing Tin (the most sensitive experimental input variable affecting predicted IDs), led to a reduction in both the physical and chemical components of ID. Hot EGR led to shorter predicted and measured IDs over the range of BOIs, except 20° BTDC. In general, the thermal effects of hot EGR were found to be more pronounced than either dilution or chemical effects for most BOIs. Finally, uncertainty analysis results also indicated that ID predictions were most sensitive to model parameters AP3, Aq, and Af1, and Eq, which affected chain initiation and propagation reactions and also contributed the most to overall uncertainties in IDs.

Abstract (sommario):

Acknowledging the Anthropocene crisis, my research examines myth and myth-making to reimagine the role of Claude Lévi-Strauss’ bricoleur concept. Following Joseph M. Coll’s Taoist and Buddhist systemic thinking inspired theory of sustainable transformation, the practice-led project evolves into the making of an essayist film that conveys a specific personal myth.My research reckons that a bricoleur should perceive myth-making as an organic growing organisation that acquires intuition and posteriori knowledge. And focus on a narrative that evolves into the mythic identity of a piece of coal and a bar-tailed godwit corresponding to designated oppositional values and semiotic assets. Apart from the practitioner works of Stan Brakhage, Chris Marker and Adam Curtis, my research also dives into Elysia Crampton Chuquimia, Howie Lee and Yaksha‘s musical languages to explore the other narrative possibilities when re-examining history in a socially conscious manner. As the film soundtrack is also part of the myth-making production. My practice-led project inevitably evolves into the subject of the self as the production presents a negotiation through metaphors and signifiers concerning memory, history and experience. The filmmaking echoes a search for the wisdom of self-acceptance. It adopts Stephen Yablo’s understanding of conceivability to generate and regenerate meaningful assets. Concepts are planted to grow into newer representations compromising posteriori knowledge and self-realisations, with informal syllogistic reasoning concerning the epistemological nature of imagination and the transformative structure of myth. The contextual knowledge of my research examines the subject of myth and myth-making through Jacques Lacan's theory of fantasy, Jungian analytical psychology and Claude Lévi-Strauss knowledge of structural linguistics. It adopts Lévi-Strauss’ canonical myth formula concerning the missing discussion of experience, community, and the wilder contexts of shamanology. Maurice Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological body and Martin Heidegger's thoughts on the philosophy of technology concerning the body-to-technology relation and the notion of symbolic light and darkness. With critics on the instrumentalist stance of technology and Rene Descartes's modal metaphysics concerning Arnold Gehlen’s conservative alert of mankind’s debased condition of modern existence, my research proposes that myth-making is a necessary altruistic form of social technology that can transform experience into wisdom. Acknowledging that will is the priority for behaviour change. The production examines the Dao of myth and myth-making as a specific technological answer to resolve David Attenborough's calling for a global transformation and collaboration in his book A Life of Our Planet. To further develop such a technology, my research seeks a systemic understanding of myth and myth-making. Therefore, my research hypothesis a wholistic and heuristic methodology, namely Daoist bricoleur. By experiencing a personal myth, I celebrate my Manchu and Chinese culture origin and the complexity of my upbringing. My research visits the endangered Manchu Ulabun storytelling tradition and reckons the film production rely on the structural establishment of critical mythic fragments founded on autobiography and social conventions. As a permanent resident of New Zealand born in a coal-mining town in eastern Inner Mongolia, China, with an unverifiable ancestral clan name related to Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty and much more.

The Sulphur Bay map sheet is a low-relief terrain underlain by lower- to middle-Devonian dolostone and limestone. A thin (&lt;4 m thick) Laurentide Ice Sheet-derived glacial sediment cover drapes most of the landscape, except for bedrock outcrops exposed near Great Slave Lake. Relict glacial landforms record an older northwest ice flow across the region. These are strongly overprinted by subsequent west-southwest-oriented flutings and mega-scale glacial lineations formed during deglaciation. As ice retreated, the entire map area became inundated by glacial Lake McConnell and then subsequently by the expanded postglacial Great Slave Lake. This produced a discontinuous, coarse winnowed surface lag over higher terrain and thin sheets of glaciolacustrine nearshore sands over lower-lying regions. Abundant iceberg furrows occur throughout the map area. Bogs and fens have formed over much of the landscape and display extensive thermokarst.

Abstract (sommario):

St. Croix is home to a variety of threatened and endangered (T&E) species that are at risk for predation by the invasive red-tailed boa (Boa constrictor), such as the St. Croix ground lizard (Amevia polyps), the ground-nesting least tern (Sterna antillarum), and the hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). Genetic analysis determined the original red-tailed boa population on St. Croix sourced from a single female released by a pet owner and its range expands every year. Presently, the main population of red-tailed boa is established on the west end of St. Croix and extends as far east as Salt River. One individual was found in Salt River Marina and additional sightings have occurred in Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve (SARI) more recently. This inventory aims to search for red-tailed boas in two focal areas that park staff are actively restoring. The park will use information from this inventory to develop a boa removal program and protect sensitive native species like the ground-nesting least tern, the St. Croix ground lizard and the hawksbill sea turtle nests and increase the success of restoration. Snakes are cryptic species, often occurring in low density, and utilize complex habitat patterns. To increase the likelihood of detecting red-tailed boa, the Maryland/Delaware/D.C. Wildlife Services detector dog handling team partnered with the USDA-APHIS National Detector Dog Training Center to train and develop detector dogs to assist in determining the presence/absence of red-tailed boa for this project. Canines were trained to locate red-tailed boa and indicate its presence to the handler via barking three times near the identified target. Two dog detector teams traveled to Salt River Bay National Park (SARI) in St. Croix to conduct surveys for red-tailed boa in habitats likely to contain red-tailed boa in June 2023. Habitat varied throughout the surveys. Close to the bay, mangrove forests dominated and, as elevation increased, transects took place in almost exclusively dry tropical shrub forest. Each transect was surveyed by one dog team. The canine teams had no red-tailed boa detections within SARI. Canines showed proficiency at surveying for red-tailed boa populations in SARI. Given the proximity of confirmed detections to SARI, it is likely red-tailed boa will be in the park in the future, if they are not already. Additional surveys, whether by humans, canines, or both, are recommended in areas of the park that have not been previously surveyed.
