Abstract (sommario):
The changes in the demands of foreign language talents caused by the development of the times are in contradiction with the unchanged teaching pattern of British and American literature teaching, which causes this course to be marginalized gradually and leads to the decreased sense of fulfillment of both students and teachers. However, in the New Arts construction and the course philosophy construction, the importance of this course is explicitly highlighted. Therefore, the course of foreign literature for English majors needs reformation urgently. KUD pattern is important part of Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction and contends setting teaching objectives of three levels: K (knowledge), U (understanding), and D (doing) to govern the whole teaching plan. KUD pattern can grant foreign literature course for English majors clear teaching objectives, enabling the teaching experiences centered on students and contributing to the course philosophy teaching and evaluation.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: Pencak silat has been a part of Indonesia's cultural heritage imparting lessons in Islamic morality, in addition to self-defense, cultural arts, sports, and mental and spiritual training. Members are trained in these skills along with Islamic religious lessons and the Sufi philosophy. Previous studies have however shown a grey side of pencak silat, which involved violence with other groups, and not the Sufi and the spiritual teachings. The current study, therefore, aimed to examine the Sufism in PSHT’s pencak silat and how its members practiced the teaching of Sufism and Islamic philosophy. Qualitative ethnographic research approach was used, with observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation as data collection instruments. Finds show that Sufism in PSHT means mastering a control over heart or mind, showing good behavior, de-radicalizing religion, and learn the meaning of life to develop spiritual intelligence. It was also evident in the study that Sufism can strengthen Muslim members' faith and aqidah as it also teaches religious tolerance towards non-Muslims. It strengthens inner relationships, builds noble character, preserves nature and peace, and increases ma'rifah knowledge by drawing closer to God. This research recommends that the government should support mental spiritual, cultural arts, martial arts, and sports in all pencak silat organizations in Indonesia and preserve the cultural heritage to benefit the nation, state, and society

Abstract (sommario):
In addition to being a great aesthetician who established the teaching and research of aesthetics in France, Étienne Souriau is an important philosopher, notably for his contribution to ontology. His aesthetics and his ontology are closely entangled. The purpose of this article is to study the relationship between these two rings, in this case inseparable, but distinct, of philosophy. We will use a comparison with the phenomenology of Charles Peirce, relevant insofar as, by different ways, art for the first one, semiotics for the second one, the two philosophers participate in a theory of the representation.

Abstract (sommario):
This article sets out a teaching philosophy of journalism education in South Africa based on four assertions: re-affirmation of the role of journalism in democratic processes, the need for comparative studies and research-led teaching, journalism as active citizenship and journalism as a reflexive practice. These assertions are considered within the context of the role of the news media in a young democracy, with a particular focus on South Africa and post-colonial societies in the global South. As such, I hope to contribute to a debate around journalism education grounded in local realities rather than imported Western normative conceptualizations of the role and function of the news media and what the study of the news media in this particular context can offer not only the context that it serves but also the discipline itself.

Abstract (sommario):
Field station research locations offer scientists isolation and immersion for more precise statistical analysis of climate change and environmental damage. As more art/science initiatives develop in academia, art students are gaining access to difficult scientific research sites and using the experience to fuel creative strategies. The methodology for offering a course that taps these into possibilities for the teaching of creativity remains little explored. Through a case study at the School of Creative Media in Hong Kong, this article examines how student expeditions that work adjacent to environmental scientists in extreme environments can be used for the teaching of creativity and artistic process as well as informing a larger public on climate issues. The structure of the program with detailed descriptions of sequenced proficiencies is presented. Both pedagogical philosophy and logistic issues will be discussed through the set-up and organizational structure of the course, the variety of teaching materials, assignments, dissemination and finally the exhibition and impact of the students’ work. Using scientific resources with the goal of artistic interpretation, the pedagogy is designed to respond to the emerging potential of digital technologies in creative media. The results, both for the students and the public, demonstrate multimodal approaches that offer broader possibilities for learning and outreach that are both scalable and transferable.

Abstract (sommario):
For current college students and later generations, it was natural to communicate through digital network-based smart media from childhood. Furthermore, amid the COVID-19 era, they became more familiar with the non-face-to-face communication culture in their daily lives. In the future, when they act as the main contributors of society, the advanced AI technology will replace human work more than it has already. Thus, this future social environment makes us recognize the crisis of human dominance, competitiveness, and the loss of our humanity. It is no wonder then that there is a growing voice among educators to emphasize teaching students to strengthen their creativity, communication, and collaboration skills, and to enhance their human emotional intelligence. The purpose of this paper is to present a course example of how to cultivate feeling, intuition, insight, and thinking for ordinary college students in the university with the aim of fostering learners' humanity, emotions, and creativity. In other words, this study introduces examples of designing, operating, and improving a new convergent general elective college course that combines the experience of art appreciation through music listening and the conceptual learning of ideas in the fields of art and philosophy as a class model for holistic education. After operating the first semester in face-to-face lectures, the teaching method was revised to combine face-to-face and non-face-to-face lectures, otherwise known as “Blended Learning”. After running the second semester of a revised curriculum, analysis of this study was conducted to derive educational meaning and values out of the two courses by identifying and comparing the class reactivity, quality, and artistic characteristics of each semester. It is believed that some educational utility and teaching implications obtained in the process of improving and operating these subject designs will prove useful as a reference for course model design and experience-oriented evaluation of some experience-based art elective subjects.

Abstract (sommario):
Over the past three decades it has become customary to regard music education as a form of aesthetic education. Recently a number of writers have expressed some objections to this view which they maintain has acquired the status of an accepted orthodoxy. In a healthy educational climate it is right that any orthodoxy should be questioned and aesthetic education has often become the subject of an international debate The purpose of this paper is not to add another voice to that debate but to re-examine the concept of aesthetic education with reference to the teaching and learning of music in educational institutions. Many discussions on this issue become clouded because the term ‘aesthetic education’ is used in different ways and in different contexts In a broad sense the aesthetic is not necessarily associated with the arts and is taken to be a dimension of experience in any discipline; accordingly, aesthetic education is across the curriculum. Most frequently, it implies an education in the fine arts, the aim of which is the development in children of a particular style of thinking or mode of intelligence. A third view arises from the notion of aesthetics as a form of enquiry best described as the philosophy of art; aesthetic education thus conceived involves the study of topics such as artistic meanings, judgements and values. An examination of these different conceptions of aesthetic education raises a number of philosophical and educational issues that have implications not only for the organisation and practice of music education in schools but also for the education and professional development of teachers.

Abstract (sommario):
Various studies on Pesantren have been conducted through various lenses and perspectives; however, its attractiveness is still there. In some points, the pesantren is well known as a conservative institution in which freedom of thinking is limited. This article is willing to show that not all pesantrens limit their students' freedom of thinking. One of them is Ma'had Aly (higher education), one of the education institution in Pesantren Salafiyah Syafi'iyah Sukorejo Situbondo which focuses its teaching on fiqh. Fiqh, or Islamic jurisprudence, is one of the branches of Islamic science. In some pesantrens, the teaching of fiqh is limited to one school or madhhab, particularly school of Shafi'i. However, in Ma'had Aly, not only one school of thought is taught, but fiqh of four schools of thought. It shows a high tolerance and respect for differences. In order to seek a new ingredient in formulating Islamic law, the teaching of fiqh is combined with other sciences such as philosophy, sociology, and anthropology. This new ingredient produces a rich discourse of fiqh and widens its scope of discussion to include to religious relationships, gender, human rights, ecology, and other contemporary issues such as interfaith marriage, the possibility of a non-Muslim being president, and the role of women in the public sphere. Looking from the curriculum, the method of teaching, and the publication of bulletin of Tanwirul Afkar, this article proves that freedom of thinking is well-maintained at Ma'had Aly.

Abstract (sommario):
To stimulate learners’ autonomy, autonomy-supportive teaching strategies were included in the design of a multidisciplinary elective course on pain. During this course, students explored pain from different disciplinary angles, i.e., from biomedical, psychological, arts, philosophical, and anthropological perspectives. In the course, autonomy was stimulated by giving students freedom of choice, especially in their final assignments. The aim of this study was to explore students’ freedom of choice and students’ perceptions of the multidisciplinary course on pain, particularly students’ perception of autonomy in the light of self-determination theory (SDT). To address the aim of this study, a mixed methods approach was used. Directed content analysis was conducted on a reflective part of the final individual assignment and was used to find categories fitting within SDT and also outside it. In addition to this, the diversity of topics as well as different disciplines present in the final individual assignments was explored to demonstrate students’ freedom of choice. This study shows that the course setup supported students’ autonomy and relatedness and stimulated students’ interest in and relevance to pain. Moreover, it stimulated students’ freedom of choice and stimulated curiosity towards disciplines such as arts and philosophy. Therefore, it can be concluded that we successfully developed a multidisciplinary course on pain in which students are exposed to different autonomy-supportive teaching strategies based on the SDT framework.

Abstract (sommario):
Revising the way we organize the teaching activities is never an easy task even under normal circumstances, and when the state of emergency and the use of digital technology are added to the mix, the situation becomes even more complicated. During this process, it is easy to forget that although the content of teaching remains the same, the ways of delivering that content will change. Accustomed to synchronous, direct communication in a traditional classroom, we are now faced with asynchronous channels and a modular approach to teaching with the help of digital tools that are (un)known to us and which, despite their apparent value, present barriers to teaching and learning for various reasons such as Internet access, digital skills, adequate equipment, and economic and social status. Despite the development of digital technology and the exponential growth of digital applications and tools that have paved the way for online education worldwide in recent years, our emergency response to the pandemic indicates the lack of readiness of educational institutions for this type of change. Therefore, the paper examines how university teachers perceive the emergency remote teaching imposed on them from March to September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The research problem of this study concerns the affective attitudes of the lecturers at the University of Priština in Kosovska Mitrovica towards emergency remote teaching. Namely, the authors are set with the task of investigating how teachers perceive the new reality and how they have managed to acclimate to emergency remote teaching. For the purposes of this study, three major schools at the University were selected: the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Medicine. The three schools represent the bulk of the University academic offer: sciences, humanities, and arts. The data is compiled by means of a survey, while the respondents are selected by the convenience sampling technique. The aim of the study is to present the analysis of the data obtained in order to develop a future training programme for university lecturers in principles and practices of the distance education and to improve the emergency response of the higher education institutions as a whole.

In partnership with academics from McGill University and community arts partners, a high school in Montreal faced with significant challenges became an “urban arts school,” offering music and visual art programs centered in youth culture, as well as integrating arts into several academic subjects. The initiative was inspired by the school’s popular extra-curricular activities, which included a Hip Hop literacy club that ran beat making and rap writing workshops. Considering the popularity of these activities, the school decided to offer a music education program focused on musical skills through real-life music making activities that resemble those employed by popular musicians. This article chronicles the development of this music education program from the perspective of the music teacher, including the experience of continual adaptation to the needs and interests of students. The program is one of the first to combine Musical Futures, an approach to music education that promotes the combination of non-formal music teaching, informal music learning, and students’ interest in a formal school setting, with Hip Hop Based Music Education, predominantly located in community settings. This case study showed that students benefited from having an open-minded and committed educator with experience in popular musics. The co-teaching by professional Hip Hop artists also supported student progress and engagement by adding authenticity to the music making process. Furthermore, the alignment of the music program with the general school ethos contributed to its success. The paper also highlights the need to balance the development of musical skills with student engagement, and the informal music learning philosophy of Musical Futures with direct instruction associated with formal school settings.

Abstract (sommario):
The interest in Presocratic philosophy, and the scholarly output on it, have been rising again in the last few years. I start this review with a sample of recent publications in the area. It is easy to expect that Daniel Graham's collection of The Texts of Early Greek Philosophy, in two volumes, will become a popular tool for the study of Presocratic philosophy (for some qualifications on this expectation see below). The sourcebook aims to present ‘the complete fragments and a generous selection of testimonies’ for the major early Greek philosophers. English translations (all by Graham himself) are set opposite to Greek and Latin texts (with slim textual notes identifying substantive textual variants), with succinct introductions for each philosopher, and brief commentaries and basic bibliographies following the texts. The Diels-Kranz (hereafter DK) collection is the starting point for this sourcebook, but Graham is quite selective in his shortlist of those who deserve a place in his sourcebook: out of ninety DK sections, he includes only nineteen philosophers (Thales, Anaximander, Anaximenes, Xenophanes, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Zeno of Elea, Anaxagoras, Empedocles, Diogenes of Apollonia, Melissus, Philolaus, Leucippus, Democritus, Protagoras, Gorgias, Antiphon, Prodicus, and Pythagoras, the last being relegated to an appendix) and two anonymous texts, the Anonymus Iamblichi and the Dissoi Logoi. Although the sourcebook includes some fragments and testimonies that did not appear in DK (e.g. the Strasbourg papyrus for Empedocles), and only a selection of the testimonies included there, the major difference in terms of the material included for the selected philosophers is the order in which fragments and testimonies are presented. The fragments are incorporated within the context of the broader testimonies containing them (and signalled in bold), rather than listed separately, as in DK; the numbering of fragments and testimonies does not correspond to DK, but the DK numbers are given in addition, and volume 2 includes a list of concordances (besides an index of sources, an index of other passages quoted by Graham in his end-of-chapter commentaries, and a short general index of names and topics). Graham's choice is definitely a healthy step forward from DK's largely artificial strategy of separating fragments and testimonies into two different sections; one might wonder whether the decision to signal in bold words, phrases, sentences, and sections that supposedly count as original fragments within the broader context in which they occur is still too heavily indebted to the DK model. For each author the texts are organized in four main sections: life, works, philosophy, and reception, with the philosophy section typically structured into thematic subsections. Of course the strengths and shortcomings of a monumental work such as Graham's can be fully appreciated only over time, once you use it repeatedly in your teaching and research. I have mentioned Graham's approach to the distinction between fragments and testimonies: some sustained methodological discussion, and explanation of the criteria guiding the distinction, would have been welcome. Unavoidably some readers will find Graham's shortlist of philosophers and selection of texts unsatisfactory and too narrow: some qualms about notable exclusions – such as Solon, Alcmaeon, Archytas, Pherecydes, the Orphics, and the Derveni author – have already been voiced (for example, by Jason Rheins in his review in Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews). As far as I could see, the translations are reliable, and the short introductions, commentaries, and bibliographies provide just enough information for readers to contextualize the authors and texts within the philosophical tradition (less so within the broader archaic Greek cultural and literary tradition), and appreciate some of the key exegetical and philosophical issues that they raise. Just enough, and this brings me to what I find to be the less convincing aspect of such an enterprise as Graham's. His collection will certainly be of some use as an accessible reference tool for advanced students and researchers, but its selectivity will prevent it from becoming a research tool in its own right, and standard editions of individual Presocratics will remain the first port of call (for example, the second edition of Coxon's The Fragments of Parmenides, reviewed below). At the same time, the breadth of the material that it contains, coupled with the relative thinness of the apparatus of introductions and commentaries, does not make The Texts of Early Greek Philosophy the kind of introductory sourcebook that could be used on its own in an introductory undergraduate course on ancient philosophy, or on the Presocratics. It is difficult to imagine lecturers of such courses prescribing to their students more than a small fraction of the material offered by Graham; and those students will still need to use standard introductions to Presocratic philosophy such as Kirk–Raven–Schofield, Barnes, McKirahan, or Warren to make real sense of the evidence presented by Graham, placing it within a unified narrative about the nature and development of early Greek philosophy. From this point of view, Graham's collection risks falling into no man's land from the point of view of its readership: it is neither a ground-breaking, research-shaping tool such as, for example, Long and Sedley's collection on The Hellenistic Philosophers has been for three decades now, nor an introductory textbook easily accessible (for both sheer bulk and price) to undergraduate students. That said, Graham's work still deserves a place in all university libraries and on the shelves of ancient philosophy scholars.

Abstract (sommario):
Every school of the Japanese martial art of karate possesses special values and norms unique to its practice. Unsurprisingly, the philosophy of Idokan karate is therefore similar to other schools while remaining distinct in the myriad of martial art practices. Idokan karate possesses a practical philosophy (i.e., applicable to everyday life) influenced by Eastern and Western belief systems that are internalized and utilized by its practitioners as forms of today’s civilian warrior path. This single case study examines the prominent Idokan ethics, values, and rules as well as details its specific and symbolic content. It makes use of the hermeneutic phenomenology research method to present a content analysis of literature on Idokan within the wider discourse of martial arts studies. A broad discourse analysis of these topics in both scientific studies and popular publications was conducted. In doing so, this study’s practical implications are that it not only provides a glimpse into the uniqueness of Idokan karate philosophy but also into that of the vastness of the great martial arts menagerie. Idokan karate philosophy is derived distinctively from its founders’ understandings of Chinese and Japanese martial arts, Taoism, and Christianity and dictates practitioners a unique morality. Such teleology comes from special values, rules, and aims embedded in Idokan teachings. In normative ethics, the Decalogue and nobility of spirit (the Homo Creator Nobilis) are most important. Tao in Idokan is understood as God’s Word, the principle of love, and the way of (Christian) heaven.

Abstract (sommario):
Pencak silat is one of Indonesia's cultural identities, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Apart from being a martial arts defence, Pencak silat also contains the values of local wisdom textually and contextually. Pencak silat in Indonesia comes from 2 regions: Minangkabau (West Sumatra) and Cimande (West Java). This research discusses the study of martial arts as a medium of self-defence and traditional educational media in Minangkabau, West Sumatra. A Minangkabau youth must learn martial arts and learn to read the Quran in a mosque (surau) as a provision for a man who has grown up if he wanders to other areas. The Minangkabau community in ancient times had two important educational institutions, namely surau and sasaran silat. Location of Surau (masjid) and sasaran silat usually side by side. In surau, young people learn to read the Al-Quran and religious knowledge, while in sasaran silat, they learn martial arts and various arts. Islamic teachings during the Minangkabau community have succeeded for generations in supporting the philosophy of life: 'adat bersandi syara'- syara' bersandi kitabullah'. This philosophy has been ingrained since birth, strengthening the mental health of youth and coloured in the daily life of the Minangkabau people. In other words, the embodiment of Islamic culture folklore minang can be seen in the life of the Minangkabau people. This made Minangkabau martial arts develop and spread in various parts of Indonesia.

Abstract (sommario):
To historians of the ancient world, the closing of the Athenian Neoplatonic school by the emperor Justinian stands as one of the best known, and most debated, events of the later Roman Empire. To some, it is an event of little consequence with only an ephemeral impact upon subsequent developments. To others, it represents nothing less than the death of classical philosophy. Nevertheless, this modern scholarly interest belies ancient attitudes. The only direct statement about the end of Athenian philosophical teaching comes from the Chronicle of John Malalas, and all other ancient sources, including those that rely upon Malalas, are silent about the incident. This silence hints at a fact that this study will make clear. To contemporaries, the closing of the Athenian school was an unremarkable occurrence that represented neither a tyrannical use of imperial power nor an attack upon the valued cultural tradition of philosophical teaching. Like all else in the later Roman world, it occurred within the confines of a political system that, when working properly, matched imperial initiative to the specific needs of a province or city. As a result, the causes and significance of the closing of the Athenian school are best appreciated by understanding how the event developed out of its local political setting.

Abstract (sommario):
This study’s primary goal was to evaluate how long work hours affect employees' performance at the teaching referral hospital in the Nyamagana District of Mwanza, Tanzania. The study had two other supporting objectives which are; to identify the extent to which Job insecurity affects employee job performance and to determine the effects of excessive work pressure on job performance. In this article, the author explains only how long work hours affect employees’ performance. This study used both quantitative and qualitative approaches. 103 staff members of the Teaching Referral Hospital in Mwanza served as the study's sample population. In order to justify sample representation, the percentile method was utilized to acquire 10% of the physicians and nurses employed at the Teaching Referral Hospital in Mwanza. Because of this justification, the sample size for doctors was 27 and for nurses, it was 71. Following nondirectional hypothesis testing, the findings of the zero-order correlations and the regression analysis were also shown and computed at 2-tailed levels of significance. Out of the 103 surveys that were issued, 103 were returned, yielding a 95.1% response rate. Amin (2015) states that a response rate of 95.1 percent is high and that findings from the collected respondents contain useful information since a decent representation of the survey population is at least 70%. The study's results demonstrate how variables like time management have an impact on work duties. The results imply that workload has an impact on the health of healthcare professionals.

Abstract (sommario):
The present article examines the philosophical ethics of Protestants teaching in higher education during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and their reception of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, 1.6. Two theses are illustrated. First, the survey of fourteen commentaries shows clear parallels with the medieval interpretation of the Ethics, which the Protestant authors creatively expanded. Thus, the continuity of Protestantism with the earlier tradition of Christian philosophy is substantiated in this specific case for a representative group of authors. Second, over against the prejudices according to which Protestantism simply censured ethics and subsumed it into moral theology, this article shows that, in truth, Aristotle was still the fundamental philosophical reference in a topic as central as the definition of happiness, and that the Platonic “theological” alternative was not considered appropriate for a philosophical discipline.

Abstract (sommario):
The concerns and observations outlined in this paper are largely the result of teaching and otherwise attempting to communicate the Qur'an and its meaning to English-speaking undergraduates and others with no first-hand knowledge of the Arabic Qur'an. Among the many possible aims of Qur'an translations (e.g. conveying the music or poetic impact of the Arabic recitation, providing a captivating and pleasing text for ritual purposes [cf. The King James Bible], preserving the jafrī/mathematical dimensions of the Arabic calligraphy, etc.) one important need – especially in contexts relating to Islamic Studies – is to provide a more ‘literal’ version of the Qur'an that would help the non-Arabist reader to grasp the inner connections between the Qur'anic text itself and the multiple dimensions of its inspiration and impact in all the relevant areas of the Islamic humanities; not only in subsequent literary interpretations and elaborations (the Arabic religious and legal sciences, philosophy, cosmology, spirituality, ‘sectarian’ readings), but also in other aesthetic domains (poetry, music, architecture, visual arts). Such a version clearly does not yet exist (in any major European language, to the best of my knowledge). This paper reviews a number of fundamental considerations which should be kept in mind in the process of creating a serious student's English version of the Qur'an, more accurately conveying the actual meanings and structures of the original Arabic.

Abstract (sommario):
This article aims to provide a historical overview of the impact of architecture and decorative arts on health and health preservation in Muslim societies during the medieval era. Based on primary medical sources, this article provides a historical interpretation of the theoretical origin of the ignored link between medicine and architecture (and decorative arts). Our findings indicate that some empirical results concerning the effects and aspects of built environments (architectural spaces) on health and treatment–both physical and mental– have been considered in the medical sources. Practical instructions of these sources introduced two theoretical achievements: 1) an introduction to the historical knowledge of environmental health and design of healthy places, and 2) a comparative analogy of the built environment and human nature (organism), which became a theoretical basis for the relationship between natural sciences, architecture, and the decorative arts in the middle ages. Considerations of the study show the extent to which architects and artisans, based on the teachings and instructions of physicians, dealt with the structural and content adaptation models of architecture and decorative arts to human organism and nature.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction. Currently, restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic have not yet been fully lifted in the People's Republic of China and students studying in Russia periodically switch to distance learning. The purpose of the article is to study the specifics of students' motivation to use distance technologies for teaching the Russian language using internationally recognized methods of measurement and statistical data analysis. Materials and Methods. The Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS) measuring materials for studying the specifics of the educational motivation of students of the Ural Federal University (hereinafter referred to as UrFU) from the PRC for the use of distance technologies for teaching the Russian language were created for the AttentionRelevance-Confidence-Satisfaction (ARCS) structural model. We studied the relationship between the personal data of students (gender, age, year of study, educational program, additional language training and the results of measuring educational motivation (IMMS) for the use of distance technologies for teaching the Russian language and its structural components: attention (ATT), relevance (REL), Confidence (CON), Satisfaction (SAT).The study involved 673 UrFU students from the PRC, who had experience of long-term distance learning under restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. Statistical processing of the measurement results was carried out using the structural equation modeling method Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). A confirmatory and exploratory factorial analysis of the obtained results was carried out using the SPSS software tool, including the AMOS module. Results. The developed IMMS questionnaire was validated by confirmatory factor analysis of IMMS measurement results using the AMOS module of the SPSS software tool. The method of exploratory factor analysis revealed statistically significant relationships between the indicators of students' educational motivation for using distance technologies for teaching the Russian language (IMMS) and its structural components with the personal data of the respondents. The gender of the student and the presence of parallel additional language training were found to have the strongest influence on learning motivation (girls are more motivated than boys). The gender of the student and the presence of parallel additional language training (regression coefficient r = 0.61) have the strongest influence on the structural component of learning motivation relevance (REL). Conclusion. The results of the study showed a high level of motivation for distance learning of the Russian language among UrFU students from China which is due to the effective design of educational materials. It is shown that when developing motivating teaching materials for distance learning, it is necessary to take into account the gender composition of trainees and the availability of parallel additional training in the subject.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract While humility has been widely explored philosophically and psychologically, there is little research on humility in educational settings. Based on semi-structured interviews with teachers from local and international schools, we investigated the role of humility in the pedagogy and wider contexts of schools in Hong Kong. Both international and local teachers regarded humility as being important for education, but they conceptualized and enacted it differently, reflecting the high power distance of Hong Kong’s Confucian heritage culture and teacher-centeredness of traditional Chinese education, and the more social constructivist form of pedagogy in international education. These findings provide a lens to understand how teaching and teacher-student relations are shaped by cultural, pedagogical, and educational philosophies and practices in different educational settings.

Abstract (sommario):
Renaissance humanism, it is generally agreed, emerged in the fourteenth century as an intellectual movement devoted to the study and imitation of ancient poetry and rhetoric. It was also dedicated to using literature to promulgate ethical values derived from a variety of classical schools and blended with Christian teachings in more or less convincing ways. Scholastic philosophy in its three branches of metaphysics, natural philosophy and logic was either avoided by and large by humanists or was subjected to an assortment of criticisms—especially dialectic and physics. Petrarch and Salutati are salient examples. There can thus be little ground today for confusing humanism and scholasticism, a tendency Paul Oskar Kristeller has so valiantly and persistently combatted.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Book history has increasingly developed a cohesive view of the printing, selling, owning, reading and use of books, but bookbinding continues to struggle to find its place in the teaching and perception of the disciple. This is counter-intuitive, and a missed opportunity, in a world in which we talk so much about the book as a material object. This paper examines the reasons, and challenges many of the assumptions or beliefs that remain endemic in binding history. It offers examples of ways in which a different approach to binding studies is needed, while considering debates about the relative usefulness of methodologies based around decoration, or structure. It sets out a philosophy, or methodology, for the study of bindings in a book-historical context, with some basic questions which we should bring to any binding before us.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigates the influence of Islam on the arts and culture of Java, one of the regions with the richest cultural heritage in Indonesia. Islam spread to Java in the 13th century through trade routes and the preaching of the Songo saints. Santo Songo played an important role in integrating Islamic teachings into the life of Javanese society. The influence of Islam on Javanese art and culture can be seen in various forms, including fine arts, music, dance, theater and traditional rituals. In the field of art, Islamic influence can be seen in batik motifs that combine Islamic symbols with local aesthetics, as well as in carvings that decorate buildings and cultural assets. Gamelan music and shadow puppet art also show adaptation to Islamic values, and the stories are based on Islamic teachings and ethics. Traditional dances, such as Sufi dance, reflect spiritual practices embedded in Javanese traditions. In the cultural field, Islam has influenced traditional rituals and religious ceremonies, and many Hindu and Buddhist traditions have been adapted to Islamic values, creating new, harmonious forms. The Javanese philosophy of life, known as the Javanese concept, combines Islamic spirituality and local wisdom, giving birth to a unique syncretism. The study concluded that the influence of Islam not only enriched Javanese art and culture, but also helped shape a dynamic and tolerant cultural identity that continues to develop and adapt today.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This essay explores the challenges to linguistic justice resulting from widely held negative perspectives on the English of young Latinx bi/multilinguals and from common misunderstandings of individuals who use resources from two communicative systems in their everyday lives. I highlight the effects of these misunderstandings on Long-Term English Learners as they engage with the formal teaching of English. I specifically problematize language instruction as it takes place in classrooms and the impact of the curricularization of language as it is experienced by minoritized students who “study” language qua language in instructed settings.

Abstract (sommario):
This qualitative study analysed Foundation Phase teachers’ philosophies on literacy teaching and learning. The analysis revealed a range of understandings that teachers’ tuition varied from drill work in class, to imaginative and engaging education that drew upon the inner resources of learners’ own knowledge. In most cases in this study, those teachers who displayed a limited and unreflective philosophy of learning literacy, mirrored their limitations in class; while the teachers with a broader understanding of the ethos, ethics and stipulations of literacy requirements demonstrated, even in trying circumstances, to deliver inspiring and quality literacy instruction. Five schools with eight Foundation Phase teachers in a rural area near George in the Western Cape Province of South Africa participated in this study. One-on-one, semi-structured interviews and classroom observations were the methods of gleaning data which were analysed and categorised to reveal dominant patterns of thought, behaviour and pedagogy. Abstract (sommario):
The teachings of Islam are closely related to the concept of community. Islamic history and politics influence community structure and organisation based on Quranic tenets. Due to extremism of some Muslim leaders who are still caught in their own orthodoxy, Muslims have been lagging behind the rest of the world in terms of political, economic and social progress. This study examines the philosophy and ideas of Islamic thinker Fazlur Rahman, a modernist scholar and philosopher of Islam. Known as a prominent liberal reformer of Islam, he devoted himself to educational reform and reviving independent reasoning (ijtihad) among Muslims in order to shape an ideal Muslim society. Fazlur Rahman was a unique scholar in that he attempted to combine Islamic and Western elements without compromising the tenets of the Quran and Sunnah in achieving a modern ideal society. He was a liberal in that he believed the Quran was compatible and relevant for all times and human civilisation.

Abstract (sommario):
I first met Bill Barber in 1975, when I came to interview for a position in economics at Wesleyan University, where Bill had taught for almost twenty years. I’d shown some interest in interdisciplinary work, so my hosts made sure my tour included the College of Social Studies, an unusually intensive undergraduate program that combined three years of close study in economics, government, history, and philosophy with a relentless regime of weekly essays and tutorial meetings. Bill had his office there, across the campus from the other economists, and taught half his courses in the college, which he’d helped to found. It was, my skeptical hosts cordially informed me, modeled on the way philosophy, politics, and economics were taught together at Oxford, and had little to do with "real" economics, the kind they did, with its high theory and, even then, its commitment to econometrics. As I soon learned, the college was the brainchild of a group of tweedy Oxonians with a mission: to teach these subjects together in a way that recognized the essential unity of the social sciences and history and, in the teaching of each, drew insights and context from all the others. This wasn’t how I’d been taught economics, or anything else. I knew nothing about Oxford, and next to nothing about history and philosophy. But in the two hours I spent that day at the College of Social Studies with Bill and his collaborators in the mission, all of them subjects of the same cordial skepticism in their own departments, I became one of them myself.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this research is to explore Patuntung belief among Ammatoa Kajang community and analyze the encounter between the belief and Islamic teaching. It relies on both primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews and on-site observation. We interviewed ten key informants: four traditional leaders, three religious’ leaders, and three community leaders, while the observation was during July-September 2022. The secondary data was from literature exploration. The results of this study show that the Patuntung is the traditional belief of Ammatoa Kajang Community which has been still preserved today with its whole distinctive and unique features. Additionally, there also occurred encounter between Patuntung and Islamic belief as clear in the internalization of five Islamic pillars in Patuntung teachings. Quite different from those five which accentuate physical behaviors, Patuntung teaching stresses more on heartily intention and this makes the physical differences between the two inevitable.

Abstract (sommario):
The high order thinking skills (HOTS) is a transformation in the education system in Malaysia this century in line with the implementation of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. The practice of implementing HOTS has outperformed the entire subject content concept by focusing on several HOTS theories in particular the Bloom and Taksnomi Marzano taxonomy. However, for the Islamic Education subjects based on the Quran and As-Sunnah, the implementation of this HOTS element needs to be translated through the basis of the Islamic Education Philosophy that puts the perfectional of the intellectual education as the main thrust in driving this thinking thinking culture. The emergence of figures such as Ibn Khaldun, which speaks thoroughly of the mind-based concept of Malakah, has sparked diversity in the perspective of the understanding of HOTS understanding. For this reason, this study uses the analysis process by analyzing the literature by examining the contents of a synonymity or summarized in the meaning of the poor concept of Ibn Khladun in the context of the teaching of Islamic education subjects. The results of this study resulted in four basic concepts in the application of HOTS through the use of Malakah combined with the use of aql tamyizi, aql tajribi, aqal nazori and insaniyah fact. In general, the implementation of Islamic Education PdP which implements HOTS should focus on the process and philosophy of teaching that Ibn Khaldun has established to ensure that students' understanding, appreciation and practice assesses the requirements set out on the basis of the Islamic Education Philosophy.

"Assessment of Young People’s Motivation for Pursuit of Higher Degree in the Field of Education: Implications for Educational Philosophy and Teacher Policy in Nigeria". SAGE Open 11, n. 2 (aprile 2021): 215824402110138. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/21582440211013810.

Abstract (sommario):
This study assesses students’ motivation for the pursuit of higher degree in the field of Education. Due to their current low-income status (mean value of less than $2 day) and their desired income (mean value of $500 per day) 10 years after acquiring the degree, it is instructive and tractable to examine the income effect of their motivation. Their current low-income status suggests that they are on the average, meeting basic needs such as food and clothing. In addition, their desired income suggests that they desire to possibly move up the zenith of the hierarchies of need. Thus, current income, desired income, choice to work in the educational sector, intended career destination, and (revealed) altruistic motive for teaching in primary and secondary schools after moving up in the ladder of needs were measures of motivation and dependent variables. Ordinary least squares (OLS) and discrete choice models were estimated to identify the determinants of these measures. Results show that very few students had wanted to study Education at undergraduate level. Motivation for their enrolment in postgraduate education, however, is apparently pecuniary and essentially market driven. Most of the students preferred high-paying professions within the education sector—lectureship positions in the tertiary institutions, influencing policies as politicians and political appointees, and running educational businesses. Although, a few students intended to teach in future at the basic level, primary and secondary levels, most of them possess altruistic motives to teach, that is, to mentor students.
