Abstract (sommario):
AbstractWe prove the following result announced by the second and third authors: Any homogeneous, metric ANR-continuum is a -continuum provided dimGX = n ≥ 1 and , where G is a principal ideal domain. This implies that any homogeneous n-dimensional metric ANR-continuum is a Vn-continuum in the sense of Alexandroff. We also prove that any finite-dimensional cyclic in dimension n homogeneous metric continuum X, satisfying for some group G and n ≥ 1, cannot be separated by a compactum K with and dimGK ≤ n – 1. This provides a partial answer to a question of Kallipoliti–Papasoglu as to whether a two-dimensional homogeneous Peano continuum can be separated by arcs.

Abstract (sommario):
As Arctic sea ice continues to melt and global demand for clean energy rises, Russia’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) are rapidly increasing. To ensure the operational safety of LNG carriers and safeguard the economic interests of stakeholders, including shipowners, a thorough assessment of the navigability of various ice-class LNG carriers along this route is essential. This study collected Arctic ice condition data from 2014 to 2023 and applied the Polar Operational Limit Assessment Risk Indexing System (POLARIS) methodology to calculate the Risk Index Outcome (RIO) for LNG carriers with No Ice Class, Arc4, and Arc7 ice classifications in Arctic waters. A navigability threshold of 95% RIO ≥ 0 was established to define navigable windows, and critical waters were identified where sections of the route remain in hazardous or risky conditions year-round. The results indicate that for No Ice Class vessels, Arc4 vessels, and Arc7 vessels, the navigable windows for westbound Route 1 and Route 2 under light, normal, and heavy ice conditions range from 70 to 133 days, 70 to 365 days, and 70 to 365 days, respectively, while for eastbound Route 3, the navigable windows range from 0 to 84 days, 0 to 238 days, and 7 to 365 days, respectively. The critical waters affecting the navigability of No Ice Class vessels, Arc4 vessels, and Arc7 vessels are primarily located in the Kara Sea, Laptev Sea and East Siberian Sea. This study, using the POLARIS methodology, provides valuable insights into the navigability of LNG carriers with different ice classes along the NSR, supporting the development and utilization of Arctic energy and shipping routes while offering decision-making support for stakeholders involved in Arctic maritime operations.

Abstract (sommario):
The class of quasi-retracts of AR's (AQR's) was first considered by Stallings, who observed that every AQR has the fixed point property. More recently, it has been shown that the class of AQR's is closed with respect to the operations of taking cones, suspensions, or products with AR's, and that no AQR separates a Euclidean space. In this paper we show that every AQR is acyclic, and we obtain a simple, direct characterization of the AQR's in a certain class of acyclic continua.

Abstract (sommario):
Given a metric continuum X, we consider the collection of all regular subcontinua of X and the collection of all meager subcontinua of X, these hyperspaces are denoted by D(X) and M(X), respectively. It is known that D(X) is compact if and only if D(X) is finite. In this way, we find some conditions related about the cardinality of D(X) and we reduce the fact to count the elements of D(X) to a Graph Theory problem, as an application of this, we prove in particular that | D ( X ) | ∉ { 2,3,4,5,8 , 9 } h t ) for any continuum X. Also, we prove that D(X) is never homeomorphic to ℕ . On the other hand, given a point p ∈ X , we consider the meager composant and the filament composant of p in X, denoted by MXp and FcsX(p), respectively, and we study some relations between MXp and FcsX(p) such as the equality of them as a subset of X. Also, we construct examples showing that the collection Fcs ( X ) = { FcsX ( p ) : p ∈ X } can be homeomorphic to: any finite discrete space, the harmonic sequence, the closure of the harmonic sequence and the Cantor set. Finally, we study the contractibility of M(X); we prove the arc of pseudo-arcs, which is a no contractible continuum, satisfies that its hyperspace of meager subcontinua is contractible, given a solution to an open problem. Also, we rise open problems.

Abstract (sommario):
The southwestern Anatolia is part of the Aegean extensional province, located in a seismically active convergent zone between the African and Eurasian Plates in the Eastern Mediterranean. This region is one of the most active and swiftly deforming domains of the Alpine–Himalayan mountain belt in Turkey. The plate boundary is shaped by the subduction of the African Plate under the Aegean-Anatolian plate consists of the Aegean and Cyprean arcs. The two separate slabs occurred along the plate border related to these arcs. These subducted slabs are separated by a gap beneath Western Anatolia. These arcs intersect in the eastern Mediterranean region and form the tectonic structures, north cusps, the Isparta Angle depending on the subduction. The Isparta Angle caused by the slab is located to the North of Antalya Bay as reverse V shaped. In this study, 3D seismic tomography method was applied to determine the subduction geometry of slabs along the Aegean and Cyprean arcs in the Eastern Mediterranean region. The 3- Dtomographic results obtained by using the arrival times data collected 39,059 earthquakes have revealed concrete results about subduction zones. P wave velocity structure has been compared with the tectonic structures. The tomographic results show that two separate slabs occurred along Aegean and Cyprean arcs. The tear zone between these two slabs is the Fethiye Burdur Fault Zone (FBFZ) and the Astenospheric upwelling occurs in the Fethiye Bay and continues northward from there. It has been determined that there are two slabs dipping to the northeast under the Antalya Bay and to the north under the Gökova Gulf. Based on the tomographic results, it has been determined that the subduction in these region continues to the depth of ~ 100 km. The subducted African lithosphere plays important role in the evolution of southwest Anatolian tectonic structures.

Abstract (sommario):
The utility of Thoracic EndoVascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR) continues to progress at a very rapid rate. Initially implemented for the treatment of thoracic aortic aneurysms, TEVAR has evolved to treat a variety of aortic pathologies and reduce overall morbidity and mortality rates compared with traditional open surgical repair.Given the rapidly evolving nature of endovascular thoracic intervention, we hereby briefly review the current literature on the evolving applications of TEVAR.TEVAR continues to rapidly evolve and is being applied to a growing number of aortic pathologies. Given the perioperative, short- and mid-term morbidity and mortality rates, TEVAR is quickly surpassing traditional open surgical intervention as the ideal procedure for patients undergoing intervention of the descending thoracic aorta and applicability to ascending and arch pathologies is being explored. However, as more data becomes available TEVAR may be associated with higher rates of reoperative requirements. Data remains limited on the long-term efficacy of the intervention and should continue to be investigated.

Abstract (sommario):
e18716 Background: Alcohol is a known carcinogen, predisposing to a variety of cancers. While abstinence may reduce the risk of recurrence of these tumors, it is unclear whether patients diagnosed with an alcohol related cancer (ARC) are more likely to quit than the general population. Methods: We utilized the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) dataset to compare the rate of quitting drinking between those with ARCs (mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver, stomach, colon/rectum, breast, and pancreas) versus the general population. Results: In 2020, the NHIS surveyed 31,512 people, representing 251,697,992 in the population. Of these, 2.56% reported having been diagnosed with an ARC in the past. The proportion of people who had consumed alcohol at least once in their lives was similar between those with ARC and the general population (87.57% vs. 86.86%, p = 0.625); however, among those who had ever drunk, those with ARC were more likely to state they had not consumed any alcohol in the past 12 months (33.92% vs. 19.85%, p < 0.001). Patients diagnosed with an ARC were more likely to be white (75.43% vs. 63.34%), older than 65 (58.72% vs. 19.30%), with annual household income < $35,000 (32.56% vs. 22.92%) and a lower rate of private health insurance (48.12% vs. 62.08%), all p < 0.001. Controlling for these sociodemographic factors, among ever-drinkers, those with an ARC were still more likely to report having quit drinking (OR: 1.20; 95% CI: 1.00-1.44, p = 0.046). Of note, however, 5.95% of people with ARCs remained current heavy drinkers (similar to those without ARCs 5.98%, p = 0.977). Among people with ARCs, those who were older than 65 (69.31% vs. 59.10%, p < 0.001), with less than a high school education (20.63% vs. 6.02%, p = 0.001), public insurance (49.27% vs. 32.65%, p = 0.001), and annual household income < $35,000 (44.40% vs. 23.34%, p < 0.001) were less likely to continue to drink. On multivariate analysis, age (p < 0.001), education (p = 0.019) and income (p < 0.001) remained independent predictors of continuing to drink among ARC survivors. Conclusions: While patients with ARCs are more likely to have quit drinking than the general population, nearly two thirds of patients diagnosed with ARCs continue to consume alcohol, with nearly 6% being heavy drinkers. ARC survivors who continue to drink tend to be well-educated, affluent and well-insured; it may therefore behoove clinicians not to neglect educating this population on the merits of abstaining from alcohol after an ARC.

Abstract (sommario):
The Matsouanist religion in Congo-Brazzaville has its roots in Amicale, a sociopolitical association and movement that aimed to improve the rights of colonial subjects that emerged in the late 1920s. After its leader, André Matsoua, died in prison, the movement transformed into a religion that worships Matsoua as a prophet. In this article, I argue that this transformation should be understood not as a rupture but as continuation, albeit in a different discursive domain. This transformation was steered by duress, or the internalization of structural violence in everyday life under colonialism. Through this discursive transformation, Matsoua’s followers appropriated the movement and brought it into a culturally known place that enabled them to continue their struggle for liberation from colonial oppression.

Abstract It is clear that the commitment to addressing the pressing public health problem of mass incarceration and aging is growing. With every ARCH Network meeting, there are more of us who care. We even started a GSA Incarceration and Aging Interest Group! This presentation provides the perspective of an individual with lived experience as a pastoral care services worker for terminally ill incarcerated persons. Perspectives such as these are an essential to the mission of the ARCH Network. Looking ahead, we will continue to build new collaborations and partnerships and strengthen those that already exist. We will continue to refine our research agenda. We will continue to disseminate our work to make a difference in the lives of those impacted by the intersection of incarceration and aging. The ARCH Network has much to be proud of, yet we know that there is still even more that we can do.

Abstract (sommario):
Violence, defined as the intentional inflicting of injury and damage, seems to always have been a fact of human life. Whether in the shape of raids, ambushes, wars, massacres, genocides, insurgences, terrorism, or gang assaults, socially organized violence, that is, human groups orchestrating and committing violent acts, has been a steady companion of human life through the ages. The human quest to make sense of violence is probably as old as violence itself. Academic conflict research both continues and advances this quest. As long as wars were waged between nations, the research on armed conflicts focused on international relations and great power politics. This paradigm was kept alive even when the asymmetrical warfare of decolonization spread across the world, because by then the frame of analysis was the binary system of the Cold War and regional conflicts were classifi ed as proxy wars. After the end of the Cold War, the academic interest in forms of organized violence other than international conflict became more general in the social sciences, not least in anthropology, a discipline whose long-standing research interest in violent conflict previously had been directed almost exclusively towards “tribal warfare.” But, following their research tradition, anthropologists also began to conduct field studies in contemporary war zones and other violent settings.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
We all know that conflict creates displacement. Life becomes untenable in different ways, and people are forced to move; the majority ending up as internally displaced people within the nation-state, while others wind up in refugee camps in neighboring countries, and a very few seek asylum in faraway places. The recent war in Ukraine and the conflict in Syria since 2011 seemingly fit into this classical conception of why and how people are displaced. Sudden violent events forced them to run for their lives. Often, we perceive the flight as a one-way movement in space and time, as people move from hot spaces in search of cool ground. However, the journeys are most often more complicated—even in seemingly straightforward cases like Ukraine and Syria. Decisions to move are made gradually, in steps and at times in leaps, sometimes stopping along the way, at other times being temporarily reversed, as individuals and families continue to engage with the conflict, assessing its potential to diffuse, escalate or morph into something else (Bredeloup 2012; Collyer and de Haas 2012). This collection engages closely with these processes as they unfold in the intimate sphere of family and friends while keeping in mind that the conflict in Syria is still there and it still plays an active role in displaced Syrians’ present lives and plans for futures.

Abstract (sommario):
Disability aesthetics has emerged in the modern/contemporary era as a critical approach that challenges traditional notions of beauty, wholeness, and normalcy in art. By centering the experiences and perspectives of disabled individuals, disability aesthetics seeks to subvert ableist assumptions and stereotypes, presenting disability as a natural part of human diversity. This paper aims to explore how disability aesthetics challenges ableism, expands our understanding of art and beauty, and brings about societal changes through a critical analysis of various examples of disability arts in the modern/contemporary era. However, this paper also acknowledges the potential pitfalls within the field of disability aesthetics. These include the risk of fetishization or exoticization of disability, and the need for a more intersectional analysis that considers how disability intersects with other marginalized identities. As disability aesthetics continues to evolve, it is crucial to address these challenges and work towards a more nuanced and inclusive understanding of disability representation in art. Given this, by critically examining both the strengths and limitations of disability aesthetics, this paper aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue about representation, identity, and artistic expression in the context of disability. Ultimately, it underscores the importance of continual reflection and refinement within the field to ensure that disability aesthetics remains a powerful tool for social change and artistic innovation.

Abstract (sommario):
Aortic arch branching anomalies are a relatively rare occurrence, observed in approximately 3-5% of cadavers. These anomalous branching patterns continue to be a topic of ongoing dialogue in embryological evolution and cervical region surgery. During dissection, it was discovered that the donor’s left vertebral artery arose from the aortic arch between the left common carotid and subclavian arteries. In an earlier report that is included here, the right vertebral artery arose directly from the aortic arch (authors and journal expressed permission and attribution: Vasan et al., 2022). This paper not only discusses the embryological evolution of the vertebral artery and its anomalous branching but also emphasizes the need for careful examination of the aortic arch and its branches during clinical evaluation and surgical procedures.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract In the paper we use a special geometric structure of selected one-dimensional continua to prove that some stronger versions of the shadowing property are generic (or at least dense) for continuous maps acting on these spaces. Specifically, we prove that (i) the periodic $$\mathscr {T}_{S}$$TS-bi-shadowing property, where $$\mathscr {T}_{S}$$TS means some class of continuous methods, is generic as well as the s-limit shadowing property is dense in the space of all continuous maps (and all continuous surjective maps) of any topological graph; (ii) the $$\mathscr {T}_{S}$$TS-bi-shadowing property is generic as well as the s-limit shadowing property is dense in the space of all continuous maps of any dendrite; (iii) the $$\mathscr {T}_{S}$$TS-bi-shadowing property is generic in the space of all continuous maps of chainable continuum that can by approximated by arcs from the inside. The results of the paper extend ones obtained over the last few decades by various authors (see, e.g., Kościelniak in J Math Anal Appl 310:188–196, 2005; Kościelniak and Mazur in J Differ Equ Appl 16:667–674, 2010; Kościelniak et al. in Discret Contin Dyn Syst 34:3591–3609, 2014; Mazur and Oprocha in J Math Anal Appl 408:465–475, 2013; Mizera in Generic Properties of One-Dimensional Dynamical Systems, Ergodic Theory and Related Topics, III, Springer, Berlin, 1992; Odani in Proc Am Math Soc 110:281–284, 1990; Pilyugin and Plamenevskaya in Topol Appl 97:253–266, 1999; and Yano in J Fac Sci Univ Tokyo Sect IA Math 34:51–55, 1987) for both homeomorphisms and continuous maps of compact manifolds, including (in particular) an interval and a circle, which are the simplest examples of one-dimensional continua. Moreover, from a technical point of view our considerations are a continuation of those carried out in the earlier work by Mazur and Oprocha in J. Math. Anal. Appl. 408:465–475, 2013.

Abstract (sommario):
The complex interaction between religion and atheism in the former Soviet Union continues to attract scholarly interest. Recent studies of Russian Orthodox Church history during the early Soviet era have broken new ground, yet institutional and political concerns continue to dominate the discussion. Exceptions to this trend place religion in a broader social framework, thereby yielding new insights into religion as a cultural system that the Bolsheviks attacked.

Abstract (sommario):
The work deals with the development of AC welding arc stabilization devices that provide a qualitatively different level of functionality to industrial frequency welding transformers. It is shown that despite the rapid spread and use of inverter sources of direct current for arc welding of metals, welding with alternating current, using simple and unpretentious welding transformers, which work at the frequency of the current of the industrial power supply network, continues to be relevant. With regard to manual arc welding with coated electrodes and a non-fusible electrode on alternating current of industrial frequency, the problem of increasing the stability of arc burning is solved thanks to the use of impulse stabilizers of arc burning. Thepurpose of the study is to increase the energy efficiency of industrial frequency alternating current welding power sources due to the development of arc stabilization devices at the modern level. The choice of the polarity of the pulses significantly affects the parameters of the stabilizing device and the AC welding process. Studies of the influence of the pulse polarity on the parameters of the pulse arc stabilizers themselves have been carried out. The schematic implementation of stabilization devices using stabilizing pulses, the polarity of which is opposite to the polarity of the arc current, is considered. The experience of using the developed stabilizers allows us to conclude that they provide sufficiently high stability of arc burning from an alternating current welding transformer during manual arc welding of low-alloy structural steels covered with electrodes, arc welding of stainless and other special steels, arc welding of cast iron, during non-fusible argon arc welding electrode of stainless steels, aluminum and its alloys with the contact method of initial ignition of the arc
