La Gaule de la première moitié du Ve siècle, en proie aux invasions barbares, a été le lieu d’une floraison poétique bien particulière. À cette époque, plusieurs poèmes, marqués par les troubles de l’actualité, emploient les anciennes formes de la poésie légère pour traiter de la conversion ascétique de diverses manières. Parmi ces « examens de conscience », nous reprenons l’appellation de J. Fontaine, l’on trouve le poème d’Orientius, connu sous le titre générique de commonitorium. Ce poème de 1036 vers, rédigé en distiques élégiaques, est un protreptique à la vie de conuersus, qui invite spécifiquement à la fuite des vices. Son enjeu est tout à la fois l’exhortation à la conversion ascétique et la christianisation de l’héritage élégiaque. Cette étude propose une nouvelle édition du poème, accompagnée d’une traduction française et d’un commentaire, et précédée d’une introduction qui évalue à nouveaux frais notamment les questions d’attribution, de structure et de finalité du poème
While struggling with barbarian invasions, first half of 5th century Gaul saw the blossom of a specific poetic trend. Then, some writers used the antique forms of light poetry to handle the subject of ascetic conversion in different ways, as they created a literary production shaped by the difficulties of their time. Among these « examinations of conscience », as J. Fontaine called them, there is the poem of Orientius, known nowadays under the generic title of commonitorium. Written in elegiac couplet, this 1036-line poem stands as a protreptic to a conuersus’s life, which calls specifically to run away from vices. It aims at both exhorting the reader to ascetic conversion, and christianizing elegiac inheritance. This study contains a new critical edition of the poem, with a French translation, a commentary and an introduction, reevaluating various issues, namely that of attribution, structure and goals of the poem

Medieval Aquitaine was a vibrant region in terms of its politics, religion, and culture, and these interrelated aspects of life created a fertile environment for musical production. A rich manuscript tradition has facilitated numerous studies of Aquitanian sacred music, but to date most previous research has focused on one particular facet of the repertoire, often in isolation from its cultural context. This study seeks to view Aquitanian musical culture through several intersecting sacred and secular concerns and to relate the various musical traditions to the region's broader societal forces. Saint-Martial in Limoges and Toulouse, two musical and cultural centers, illustrate the wider cultural context in Aquitaine, and a survey of select manuscripts shows the development of a musical tradition. An examination of three disparate pieces shows that the repertoire as a whole is a more unified part of Aquitanian culture than previously recognized.

Constituant une synthèse documentaire manquant jusqu’ici pour l’Auvergne, cette étude propose de s’intéresser à la matérialité des routes antiques et à leur niveau d’équipement au sein de deux territoires de Gaule centrale, les cités arverne et vellave, situées dans la partie montagneuse du Massif central. En prenant en compte l’ensemble de la documentation historique, épigraphique et archéologique disponible, cette recherche vise à établir la diversité structurelle des infrastructures routières, leurs caractéristiques techniques et géométriques ainsi que leur équipement (bornes routières, ouvrages de franchissement de cours d’eau, établissements d’accueil). L’aménagement du réseau routier est appréhendé à travers trois approches : technique, chronologique et hiérarchique. L’analyse des contraintes et des ressources environnementales, qu’elles soient topographiques, hydrographiques ou géologiques, met en évidence de nombreuses solutions techniques. La dimension chronologique et hiérarchique permet quant à elle de caractériser la variabilité et les constantes d’aménagement du réseau en fonction de l’échelle territoriale des axes (long, moyen et petit parcours), de leur période de construction et de leurs maîtres d’œuvre
Establishing a documentary synthesis missing until now for Auvergne, this study focus in themateriality of the antique roads and in their level of equipment within two territories ofcentral Gaul, arverne and vellave cities, situated in the mountainous part of Massif Central.By taking into account the whole available historic, epigraphic and archaeologicaldocumentation, this research aims at establishing the structural diversity of the roadinfrastructures, their technical and geometrical characteristics as well as their equipment(boundary stones, works of crossing of streams, accommodations). The planning of the roadnetwork is study through three approaches : technical, chronological and hierarchical. The analysis of the constraints and the environmental resources, whether they are topographic,hydrographic or geological, highlights numerous technical solutions. The chronological andhierarchical dimension allows comprehending of the variability and the constants ofplanning of the network according to the territorial scale of axes (long, average and smallroute), their period of construction and their project managers

There's more than meets the eye in the fiction of the master of the espionage thriller Robert Ludlum. In a study that examines seventeen of Ludlum's novels in depth, including the latest,The Apocalypse Watch(1995), Macdonald uncovers the serious themes running through the novels: the role of the individual in preserving democracy, the value of competing voices, the failure of educational institutions to preserve ideals, the temptations of power, the importance of personal loyalties in the face of impersonal organizations, and the nature of evil. She shows how Ludlum's novels are valuable in helping us to understand modern paranoia—our fear of conspiracies, terrorism, barbarism, and intolerance. A personal interview granted by Ludlum for this book illuminates the influences on his craft, especially his long experience in the theater, which affects his sense of pacing, characterization, humor, and suspense. After an initial biographical chapter, Macdonald examines Ludlum's literary roots in suspense novels and discusses the genre. Each succeeding chapter examines a group of his novels tied together thematically or, in the case of the Bourne series, by recurring characters. The discussion of each novel is organized into sections on plot and structure, character, and theme, and features an alternate critical interpretation, such as Freudian, Marxist, or reader response criticism, which offers the reader another fresh perspective from which to examine the concerns of the novel. À la différence de la transition écologique, une transition territoriale, au départ, met à égalité les espaces, les vivants et les choses par rapport à ce qui leur arrive et la situation nouvelle – la réalité administrative d’une région qui devient autre - est muette pour le langage ou stérile pour l’imaginaire. Au contraire, le projet Vu d’ici ce n’est pas si loin s’occupe par sa démarche globale et tout particulièrement par un ouvrage photographique, d’enquêter puis de traduire en vues l’existence de cette nouvelle dimension et la sensation d’être lié à la Nouvelle-Aquitaine d’une manière ou d’une autre. À travers la médiation d’isotopies spatio-temporelles sensibles, nous affirmons que les photographies collectées puis agencées instaurent une économie interprétative. En effet, elles font circuler ces vues comme traces, repères et symbolisations en s’adressant à trois types de participants : les enquêteurs eux-mêmes, par un effet de boucle ; les sujets enquêtés, qu’ils soient présents à l’image ou reliés aux espaces, vivants et choses présentés ; et les lecteurs de l’ouvrage, néo-aquitains ou simples curieux. Ainsi, l’appréhension de ce que peut être une transition territoriale s’enrichit : l’ouvrage nous engage à nous intéresser à l’appariement territorial que crée le régime de transition et aux différentes configurations objectives, subjectives, vécues et imaginatives qu’il déploie à partir d’un « paradigme moléculaire » (Hébert 1995 : 71).
