Cet article étudie les trajectoires de pauvreté dans la France des deux premières décennies du XXI e siècle, afin d’élargir l’analyse de la pauvreté au-delà de la disqualification sociale et de l’assistance. En exploitant le volet longitudinal à neuf années de l’enquête Insee « Statistique sur les ressources et les conditions de vie » (« SRCV », 2004-2019), il montre la pertinence d’une appréhension de la pauvreté sous l’angle des trajectoires, soit un prisme d’analyse jusqu’ici peu utilisé, en particulier pour le cas français. Or, cette perspective permet d’abord de relever que de l’ordre de 30 % de la population connait au moins un épisode de pauvreté monétaire au cours des neuf années de suivi. Elle conduit ensuite à identifier deux grands types de trajectoire : d’une part, une pauvreté transitoire marquée par un bref passage dans une situation en dessous du seuil de pauvreté monétaire et, d’autre part, une pauvreté chronique qui prend un caractère plus durable et profond. Ces deux formes de pauvreté recouvrent des déterminants différents, que l’article précise : la pauvreté chronique renvoie à des facteurs structurels, tandis que celle transitoire est liée à des évolutions conjoncturelles, en particulier à la situation sur le marché de l’emploi. L’approche dynamique est donc indispensable pour montrer comment la pauvreté recouvre des trajectoires et des profils très différents, pour en donner des ordres de grandeur quantifiés et pour mieux en comprendre la pluralité des expériences.

Résumé Alors que les phénomènes de désaffection, de perte de confiance ou d’apathie interrogent les démocraties contemporaines, l’implication de citoyens ordinaires au sein d’institutions de démocratie participative semblerait en mesure d’accroître leur compétence civique. Ils y acquièrent une formation à l’action collective, des connaissances techniques et politiques, autant de compétences susceptibles de faire bifurquer significativement leur trajectoire politique. Si ces processus de politisation, fruits de l’engagement participatif, sont en partie issus des dispositions initiales des acteurs et de certaines données générationnelles, ils pourraient néanmoins avoir un impact significatif sur le fonctionnement du gouvernement représentatif, par l’émergence de nouvelles élites politiques et associatives locales.

Résumé L’auteur propose dans cet article de revisiter l’oeuvre de Robert-Lionel Séguin par le biais de trois dimensions fondamentales de sa carrière, celles d’ethnohistorien, de collectionneur et de muséologue. L’examen de ces trois dimensions permet de mettre en lumière les réseaux de chercheurs dans lesquels Séguin s’est inscrit. Cette approche apporte un regard nouveau sur la fortune critique de son oeuvre. À travers ces trois trajectoires, on verra comment Séguin a contribué aux transformations profondes de l’ethnologie entre les années 1950 et 1980 et comment il continue d’influencer ces trois disciplines.

Cet article présente une approche interculturaliste de base interdisciplinaire développée depuis 1994 à travers une trajectoire universitaire théorico-pratique de recherches anthropologiques, d’actions formatives, de consultation et de projets d’intervention. Cette proposition interculturaliste a été élaborée de manière dialectique à partir de la praxis et sert de fondement idéologico-scientifique à divers plans et programmes. L’interculturalisme est formulé comme projet sociopolitique et éthique ; comme utopie, méthode et processus dialogique ; et comme proposition basée sur trois principes : 1) principe d’égalité, juridique et relationnelle ; 2) principe de différence, respect et mise à profit de la diversité ; 3) principe d’interaction positive, d’unité dans la diversité, mettant l’accent sur ce qui est commun et sur la construction participative. Après avoir caractérisé le contexte espagnol et synthétisé les traits primordiaux de l’Approche interculturaliste, son application est détaillée dans le Projet d’Intervention communautaire interculturel, initié en 2010 dans 17 territoires de grande diversité de 15 villes espagnoles, et élargi en 2014 à 39 territoires de 32 municipalités.

Les médias sociaux ne constituent pas une catégorie homogène. Cet article propose de sortir de la confusion générée par cette appellation à partir d’une approche socio-technique et ethnographique qui appréhende la trajectoire des dispositifs en examinant à la fois l’évolution des caractéristiques des plateformes et des pratiques des utilisateurs. Une cartographie des médias sociaux est alors proposée selon deux axes : le genre de participation et la visibilité. Elle permet de mettre en évidence l’hétérogénéité des médias sociaux, les spécificités des plateformes et de mieux envisager les pratiques marketing adaptées aux configurations socio-techniques identifiées.

L’auteur montre en quoi ces deux approches sont à la fois complémentaires et contradictoires dans la constuction de l’objet du récit, dans la façon de «raconter» son histoire, et dans les différentes interprétations possibles. La présentation d’un cas permet de saisir concrètement les articulations entre le roman familial et la trajectoire sociale, donc entre les déterminants sociaux et la dynamique inconsciente. La richesse d’une approche clinique du récit de vie réside dans cette capacité à saisir les rapports entre l’histoire sociale et la vie psychique. Cette approche illustre en quoi l’individu est le produit d’une histoire dont il cherche à devenir le sujet.

Cet article porte sur l’émergence, la structuration et les pratiques d’un groupe professionnel, celui des organisateur·rices communautaires (OC) au sein du réseau public de la santé et des services sociaux au Québec. S’appuyant sur des pratiques issues des mouvements sociaux, le segment étatisé de ce groupe professionnel s’est adapté tout en participant aux évolutions de l’action publique pour définir sa position et maintenir le sens de son travail au service des habitant·es des quartiers populaires et de la lutte contre les inégalités sociales. À partir du cas d’un OC ayant exercé dans un quartier populaire de Montréal de 1976 à 2012, nous revenons sur les incertitudes et les ambivalences qui ont accompagné la professionnalisation du groupe des OC au sein du service public, entre approche contestataire et approche pragmatique de l’action publique. L’étude de cette trajectoire singulière insérée dans la trajectoire collective du groupe professionnel éclaire les transformations de l’État social pour montrer comment les tensions constitutives du métier et les pratiques professionnelles entre action collective et action publique se reconfigurent.

La complexité algorithmique du problème de la planification de trajectoires est exponentielle dans le cas général : ceci limite en pratique le nombre de degrés de liberté pris en compte par un algorithme classique. Nous proposons de découpler le problème en un générateur local de trajectoires, sans mémoire, et un planificateur global basé sur un graphe de régions relativement grandes dans l'espace des configurations. Mettant à profit la faculté de la méthode locale à suivre précisément la frontière des obstacles, on utilise la méthode globale plus coûteuse uniquement pour générer des objectifs intermédiaires donnant l'allure générale de la trajectoire. Une méthode locale proposée consiste à contrôler les variations de distances entre solides proches, décomposés en primitives convexes. Une autre technique permet de mieux coordonner les mouvements de plusieurs mobiles. D'inspiration plus géométrique, elle consiste à séparer les solides proches par des obstacles mobiles fictifs qui contraignent le moins possible leurs déplacements nominaux. L'écueil des approches locales est le risque de blocage du système. Au niveau global, on n'utilise pas de description géométrique des obstacles, mais seulement des poids, mis à jour par apprentis sage, qui mesurent la facilité pour la méthode locale à déplacer le système entre régions adjacentes. Ces pondérations sont utilisées par l'algorithme de planification. La notion de tâche est formalisée, ce qui permet de traiter plusieurs instances du problème de façon unifiée : les techniques proposées sont illustrées par de nombreux exemples de calcul de trajectoires, par exemple des tâches de coordination et coopération entre manipulateurs et de saisie d'objets. Des modèles géométriques hiérarchiques des solides et des chaines articulées permettent d’accélérer les calculs. Enfin, des résultats sur les trajectoires d'un robot mobile dans le plan sont présentés en annexe.

Je présente une approche cognitive pour la planification de trajectoire sous contraintes. Elle repose en premier lieu sur DKP : un planificateur de trajectoires par échantillonnage. DKP construit un arbre d'exploration dans les parties atteignables de l'environnement à la manière d'un A∗ . Les solutions sont des trajectoires splines quadratiques adaptées au contrôle de robots à deux roues indépendantes. La couche de propagation construit un espace des paramètres, contenant toutes les valeurs des paramètres laissés libres dans les solutions. Il est représenté sous la forme d'une surface contenant toutes les solutions locales qui respectent les contraintes du problème : vitesse, accélération, évitement d'obstacle. . . Ensuite, une recherche de solutions est effectuée sur l'espace des paramètres selon un critère d'optimisation. DKP a la propriété d'être entièrement déterministe : les résultats sont reproductibles et son comportement est complètement contrôlable. Ce contrôle me sert à définir des comportements de pilotage. Ils sont exprimés sous la forme d'un arbre de comportements : chaque comportement agit sur la manière dont l'arbre d'exploration produit par DKP progresse dans l'environnement. De plus, les comportements sont appliqués en fonction de la partie explorée. Ainsi, seuls les comportements faisables sont développés. TÆMS permet de décrire ces comportements de pilotage puis d'évaluer les solutions ainsi construites. Pour résumer, mon approche cognitive repose sur l'évolution conjointe d'un arbre de comportements de pilotage et d'un arbre d'exploration : elle fait ainsi le lien entre planification classique et planification de trajectoire sous contraintes.

Plus particulièrement, elle s'intéresse à la détermination du mouvement pour un robot, permettant de rejoindre une position donnée tout en assurant sa propre sécurité et celle des différents agents qui l'entourent. Entre approches délibératives - consistant à déterminer à priori un mouvement complet vers le but - et approches réactives - calculant au cours de la navigation un mouvement à suivre à chaque instant - ont émergé les approches de déformation de mouvement, combinant à la fois une planification de mouvement globale avec un évitement d'obstacles réactif local. Leur principe est simple : un chemin complet jusqu'au but est calculé à priori et fourni au système robotique. Au cours de l'exécution, la partie du mouvement restant être exécutée est déformée continuellement en réponse aux informations sur l'environnement récupérées par les capteurs. Le système peut ainsi modifier son parcours en fonction du déplacement d'obstacles ou de l'imprécision et l'incomplétude de sa connaissance de l'environnement. La plupart des approches de déformations existantes se contentaient de modifier uniquement le chemin géométrique suivi par le robot. Nous proposons alors d'étendre les travaux précédents à une déformation de trajectoire modifiant le mouvement suivi à la fois dans l'espace et dans le temps. Pour ce faire, nous proposons de raisonner sur le futur en utilisant une estimation du comportement futur des obstacles mobiles. En éloignant la trajectoire suivie par le robot du modèle prévisionnel du comportement des obstacles, il est ainsi possible d'anticiper leur mouvement. La trajectoire déformée étant modifiée arbitrairement dans l'espace et dans le temps, l'une des principales difficultés de cette approche consiste à maintenir le respect des contraintes sur le mouvement du robot le long de cette trajectoire et sa convergence vers le but. Une approche de génération de trajectoire avec contrainte sur le temps final a été développée dans ce but. En discrétisant la trajectoire déformée en une séquence d'états-temps successifs, le générateur de trajectoires permet de vérifier si un mouvement faisable existe entre chaque triplé d'états-temps de la trajectoire déformée, et dans le cas contraire de la modifier localement afin de restaurer sa faisabilité. Les approches de déformation et de génération de trajectoire proposées ont été illustrées en simulation puis quelques expérimentations ont été réalisées sur une chaise roulante automatisée.

More precisely, it consists in determining the motion of a robot from an initial position to a goal one, while preventing the robot to collide with the other agents evolving in its environment. Between deliberative approaches - consisting in determining a priori a complete motion to the goal - and reactive approaches - computing a new motion to execute at each time step during the robot navigation - have arisen the motion deformation approaches, combining a motion planning method with a reactive obstacle avoidance process. Their principle is simple : A priori complete motion is planned up to the goal and provided to the robotic system. During the course of the execution, the remaining part of the motion to execute is continually deformed in response to information provided by the sensors. The robot is consequently able to adapt its motion to the behaviour of the moving obstacles or to the incompleteness of its environment knowledge. Most of the existing motion deformation methods only deform the geometric path followed by the robot. We propose thus to extend the previous approaches to a trajectory deformation approach that modify the followed motion either in space or time. To do it, trajectory deformation reason on an estimation of the future motion of the obstacles. By preventing the trajectory followed by the robot to collide with a forecast model of the future motion of the obstacles, the robotic system may anticipate their motion. As the deformed trajectory is arbitrarily modified in time and space, one of the major difficulties of the approach is to keep the motion constraints of the robot satisfied along the trajectory. In that aim, a trajectory generation approach with a final time constraint has thus been developed. By discretizing the deformed trajectory in a sequence of state-times, the trajectory generation process allows to check if a feasible motion exists between each triplet of successive state-times, and should the opposite case occur they are modified to restore the connectivity of the deformed trajectory. The trajectory deformation and trajectory generation with final time constraints have been illustrated by simulation results, and a few experiments have been proceeded on an automated wheelchair

Ce travail porte sur la préconception d'une classe de mécanismes plans à barres articulées, les générateurs de trajectoires, dont la fonction utile est la trajectoire décrite par un point effecteur. Les outils actuellement disponibles sont mieux adaptés à la conception détaillée qu'à la préconception. Nous proposons donc des méthodes d'analyse et de synthèse afin de mieux prendre en compte une plus grande diversité de besoins, notamment pour des spécifications de trajectoire en termes de forme plutôt que classiquement (par des listes de points). La plate-forme de préconception RealisMe utilise deux modèles de cinématique. Le modèle systémique multipolaire est une extension, dans le sens de la théorie des systèmes, de la notion de groupe d'Assur. Le modèle de cinématique qualitative génère directement une trajectoire sous la forme d'arcs et de segments de droite. Ces deux modèles permettent de réaliser des simulations cinématiques très rapides et de fournir des informations utiles en préconception. Le modèle systémique multipolaire est mis à profit dans une méthodologie de conception incrémentale des mécanismes complexes. Nous proposons ensuite deux approches d'optimisation dimensionnelle, exacte et qualitative, par bouclage sur des simulations cinématiques appropriées. Finalement, nous développons deux méthodes de synthèse par capitalisation de cas. Dans ces méthodes, au préalable, un très grand nombre de trajectoires sont calculées, par simulation, pour des jeux de dimensions aléatoires. Ensuite, les cas (couples trajectoire - dimensions), après leur codage, sont stockés dans une base de cas. La première méthode de synthèse par cas utilise un réseau neuronal artificiel pour fournir, à partir d'une forme de trajectoire désirée, un mécanisme candidat par interpolation des cas proches. La forme des trajectoires est modélisée par une analyse harmonique en série de Fourier. Le réseau neuronal permet de stocker en une très faible quantité de données une connaissance étendue sur la relation dimensions-trajectoires, ceci pour une morphologie de mécanisme donnée. La deuxième méthode emploie le codage qualitatif des trajectoires pour stocker dans la même base des trajectoires générées par des mécanismes divers. Afin d'admettre des requêtes complexes, les trajectoires sont indexées selon une clé qualitative.

À travers l'acte de certification à l'amorçage, nous cherchons à avoir une meilleure compréhension de la construction de la trajectoire de financement et de la gouvernance entrepreneuriale. Situant notre travail dans un champ émergent de la finance entrepreneuriale, notre travail se compose de trois axes d'approche. Le premier essai propose un modèle conceptuel de la certification à l'amorçage. Cette revue de la littérature a permis de mettre en évidence un nouvel acteur de la certification : les plateformes de notation de startups. Le deuxième article est une étude qualitative reposant sur l'étude de cas d'une plateforme de notation dédiée aux startups. La certification émise par un tel acteur se véhicule notamment par son processus d'évaluation. Nous cherchons ainsi à mieux comprendre les déterminants de la notation de la firme entrepreneuriale et leur incidence sur sa trajectoire de financement. Nous émettons plusieurs propositions ainsi qu'un modèle d'intermédiation informationnelle. Le dernier volet de la thèse traite des questions de gouvernance posées par l'implication d'un acteur tiers. Situating our work in an emerging field of entrepreneurial finance, our work consists of three approaches. The first essay proposes a conceptual model of seed-stage certification. This literature review has highlighted a new player in certification: startup rating platforms. The second article is a qualitative study based on a case study of a startup rating platform. Certification issued by such a player is conveyed notably through its evaluation process. We aim to better understand the determinants of entrepreneurial firm ratings and their impact on its financing trajectory. We put forward several propositions as well as an informational intermediation model. The final part of the thesis addresses governance issues raised by the involvement of a third-party actor. External rating conducted by the platform, within a broader perception of governance, appears to influence disciplinary and cognitive mechanisms, particularly monitoring and mentoring activities. Through an exploratory study conducted through interviews with ecosystem actors, we seek to understand the impact of rating on informational context, innovation management, and governance construction

Les représentations existantes de cette relation se focalisent jusqu’à présent sur des variables nutritionnelles statiques et sur quelques composantes de la performance de reproduction. L’objet de cette thèse est de proposer une représentation dynamique des interrelations entre fonctions de nutrition et de reproduction afin de mieux expliquer leur fonctionnement et de simuler les enchaînements de cycles de production au cours de la carrière de la vache. Compte-tenu des contextes économique et climatique, des périodes de contraintes nutritionnelles risquent d’intervenir à n’importe quel moment du cycle de production et pourront affecter la performance de reproduction. Au vu de ce caractère aléatoire, l’approche dynamique permet d’étudier la sensibilité des composantes de la performance de reproduction à la quantité et à la dynamique des réserves lipidiques. Sur la base de concepts développés chez la vache laitière, une représentation conceptuelle des interrelations entre nutrition et reproduction a été réalisée. Cette représentation propose deux trajectoires des réserves lipidiques : à l’équilibre et en situation de contrainte nutritionnelle (trajectoire adaptative). L’écart entre ces trajectoires influence les différentes composantes de la performance de reproduction. L’acquisition et l’analyse de données expérimentales observées sur des vaches Charolaises en situation nutritionnelle non contraignante, puis contraignante a permis de quantifier ces représentations conceptuelles. Due to economic and climatic context, nutritional constraints may occur all around the nutrition cycle whatever the physiological status. A dynamic approach allowed studying the sensitivity of reproductive performance to body lipid quantity and change. Based on a conceptual approach developed in dairy cows, a conceptual framework of the interrelations between nutrition and reproduction has been realized. This proposes two body lipid trajectories: without nutritional constraint and under nutritional constraint (adaptive trajectory). Difference between theses trajectories influences the different components of the reproductive performance. Experimental data from Charolais cows in a not constraining environment and under nutritional constraints allowed quantifying these conceptual interrelations between nutrition and reproduction. La notion de trajectoire permet la visualisation des lignes de forces, des points de fractures ou de bifurcation de la création pongienne. La capacité de Ponge et de son œuvre à se situer dans l'écart (autrement, ailleurs) et à l'écart (en dehors, en marge) des conventions crée une nouvelle possibilité d' "être" écrivain. L'exigence chronologique s'inscrit dans la perspective d'un usage sociologique de la biographie, contre l'idée réductrice d'un sujet créateur et d'une œuvre surgis d'emblée. La recherche s'intéresse à l'intrication des conditions de production, de médiation et de réception des textes poétiques. L'identité littéraire pongienne cristallise une dialectique entre postures et anti-postures, une dissension non résolue, mais sans cesse renouvelée entre des positions apparemment paradoxales. Nos interrogations principales portent sur le décalage et les distorsions entre le littéraire et l'extra littéraire. L'objectif principal de cette thèse est de mettre en évidence le rôle de la direction et du mouvement de la tête et des yeux dans la perception et le contrôle de trajectoires courbes, en référence aux propriétés des flux optiques générés par notre déplacement dans un environnement stable. Nous utilisons deux méthodes expérimentales : une approche comportementale sur simulateur de conduite et une approche psychophysique permettant d'évaluer les capacités d'observateurs humains à percevoir la direction du mouvement propre. Ces méthodes combinées visent à mettre en évidence les effets comportementaux d'une perception active de la direction du mouvement propre. L'introduction dresse l'état de la recherche sur les informations disponibles et les stratégies perceptives impliquées dans la prise de virage en conduite automobile. Ainsi, l'accent est à la fois mis sur le rôle du point de corde (dans le cas étudié d'un déplacement sur une route délimitée) et plus généralement sur le rôle du flux optique (description de la transformation apparente de l'environnement visuel lors du déplacement), soulignant notre capacité à interpréter spatialement le mouvement, mais aussi le caractère indissociable de la motricité et de la perception. Nous abordons ensuite le rôle des mouvements combinés des yeux et de la tête, dans une perspective fonctionnelle du contrôle du mouvement.Dans un premier chapitre expérimental, nous analysons les mouvements d'orientation de la tête lors de la prise de virage en conduite simulée. Nous montrons à la fois que le point de corde correspond à un minimum local de vitesse optique et que la composante globale du flux optique induit un nystagmus optocinétique systématique. Enfin, lors d'une quatrième étude psychophysique, nous nous attachons à décrire finement l'effet de la variation de la direction du regard sur la discrimination de la direction du mouvement propre. Nous montrons que les seuils de discrimination de trajectoire sont minimaux lorsque le regard est orienté vers une zone de vitesse de flux minimal. To do so, we used two experimental methods: a psychophysical approach which allows to assess human observers' ability to perceive the direction of self-motion; and a behavior-based approach on a driving simulator. The two methods combined should help to highlight active perception of self-motion.The introduction reviews the current knowledge of perceptuo-motor strategies during curve driving. In this context, we put a stress on both (1.) the particular role of the tangent point -- in the driving situation on a delimited road, and on the role of the optic flow in general (apparent transformation of the optic array during self-motion), emphasizing the capability of humans to spatially interpret the movement; and (2.) on the duality between movement and perception. We then address the role of head-and-eye combined movements, in a functional perspective of the control of self-motion. In a first experimental section, we analyze the oriented movements of the head in simulated curve driving. We demonstrate that head movements are independent from the handling of the steering wheel, and that they actively participate in the gaze orientation toward the tangent point.In a second experimental section, we set out to describe the combined movements of head and eyes, with respect to the geometry of the road environment. In a third section, we analyze in more details gaze behavior as a function of the tangent point direction and of the local speed of optical flow. We demonstrate that the tangent point corresponds to a local minimum of optic flow speed and that the global component of the optic flow induces a systematic optokinetic nystagmus. In a fourth section involving a psychophysical study, we scrutinize the effect of varying gaze direction on the discrimination of the direction of self-motion. We show that the trajectory discrimination thresholds are minimal when the gaze is oriented toward an area of minimum flow speed. We finally propose a model of trajectory change detection, relying on a Weber fraction of foveal flow speeds, predicting the experimental thresholds very precisely. The gaze orientation strategies we have observed (combination of head and eye movements) toward the tangent point are compatible with this model and with the hypothesis of an active an optimal selection of the information contained in the optical flow

AbstractThe life-course paradigm insists on the need to study trajectories and how they unfold over time. Two broad families of methodological strategies are generally used for this purpose. The first strategy focuses on the occurrence of events or transitions describing the dynamics of life trajectories. The second strategy emphasizes the holistic nature of trajectories or processes of categorical states by relying on sequence analysis. This chapter reviews recent methodological development combining these two approaches often presented as irreconcilable. “Competing Trajectory Analysis” aims to analyze jointly the occurrence of an event and the “trajectory” that immediately follows it. On the other hand, the “Sequence History Analysis” approach uses sequence analysis to better describe how an unfolding trajectory is linked with the occurrence of an upcoming event. The chapter proposes a theoretical presentation of these approaches discussing their respective strength and weaknesses for life-course research and more specifically the study of vulnerability over the life course. The added value of each approach is illustrated through a study of the relationship between divorce and professional trajectories using the retrospective data from the Swiss Household Panel.

AbstractDiabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a serious complication of type-2 diabetes, defined prominently by a reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), a measure of renal waste excretion capacity. However DKD patients present high heterogeneity in disease trajectory and response to treatment, making the one-model-fits-all protocol for estimating prognosis and expected response to therapy as proposed by guidelines obsolete. As a solution, precision or stratified medicine aims to define subgroups of patients with similar pathophysiology and response to the therapy, allowing to select the best drug combinations for each subgroup. We focus on eGFR when aiming to identify eGFR decline trends by clustering patients according to their eGFR trajectory shape-similarity.The study involved 256 DKD patients observed annually for four years. Using the Fréchet distance, we built clusters of patients according to the similarity of their eGFR trajectories to identify distinct clusters. We formalized the trajectory-clustering approach through category theory. Characteristics of patients within different progression clusters were compared at the baseline and over time.We identified five clusters of eGFR progression over time. We noticed a bifurcation of eGFR mean trajectories and a switch between two other mean trajectories. This particular clustering approach identified different mean eGFR trajectories. Our findings suggest the existence of distinct dynamical behaviors in the disease progression.

AbstractCombining data from different sources and modalities can unlock novel insights that are not available by analyzing single data sources in isolation. We investigate how multimodal user-generated data, consisting of images, videos, or text descriptions, can be used to enrich trajectories of migratory birds, e.g., for research on biodiversity or climate change. Firstly, we present our work on advanced visual analysis of GPS trajectory data. We developed an interactive application that lets domain experts from ornithology naturally explore spatiotemporal data and effectively use their knowledge. Secondly, we discuss work on the integration of general-purpose image data into citizen science platforms. As part of inter-project cooperation, we contribute to the development of a classifier pipeline to semi-automatically extract images that can be integrated with different data sources to vastly increase the number of available records in citizen science platforms. These works are an important foundation for a dynamic matching approach to jointly integrate geospatial trajectory data and user-generated geo-referenced content. Building on this work, we explore the joint visualization of trajectory data and VGI data while considering the uncertainty of observations. BirdTrace, a visual analytics approach to enable a multi-scale analysis of trajectory and multimodal user-generated data, is highlighted. Finally, we comment on the possibility to enhance prediction models for trajectories by integrating additional data and domain knowledge.

AbstractIntersections are a significant bottleneck in traffic and have been a topic of much research. Optimization approaches incorporating traffic models are often limited by the intractable complexity resulting from the combinatorial explosion associated with increasing numbers of vehicles. Learning cooperative maneuver policies with deep neural networks from traffic data is a promising approach to address this issue. This chapter presents two approaches for managing traffic at intersections using deep reinforcement learning. The first approach learns an adaptive traffic signal controller, serving as a trajectory planner for all vehicles at the intersection. For smaller intersections with less traffic and fewer lanes, traffic signs are preferred over traffic lights due to their lower cost and higher efficiency. The second approach uses a centralized control unit to optimize efficiency and equity by ordering automated vehicles to yield to vehicles on conflicting routes with lower priorities. Self-driving cars have the potential to improve traffic flow in mixed environments with human-driven vehicles. The chapter evaluates the approaches using a traffic simulator with simulated and real-world traffic data. The approaches achieve state-of-the-art performance in terms of traffic efficiency and equity compared to non-learning and other learning-based methods. The chapter concludes with a discussion of possible future work on learning cooperative trajectories in mixed traffic.

In this paper, a time-optimal trajectory generation algorithm is proposed for helicopter shipboard landing. The algorithm utilizes a simplified model of the helicopter's dynamics and exploits the differential flatness of the model to formulate a nonlinear programming problem, whose solution provides time-optimal reference approach/landing trajectories. The trajectories are then tracked by an inner-loop linear dynamic inversion (LDI) controller to generate the actual inputs that steer the full-state nonlinear helicopter model. The proposed algorithm reduces approach/landing flight time and enables a higher degree of maneuverability in comparison to typical state of the art methods of trajectory generation. Because of its computational efficiency, the path planner can also be used in real-time, i.e., through iterative recalculation of the remaining trajectory to account for deviations from the planned flight path. High fidelity simulations have been conducted on a verified UH-60A Black Hawk model, which show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we present the development of a system for automation of the emergency maneuver for an autogyro after engine power loss. The purpose of the system is to determine a safe and feasible trajectory from the initial condition in forward flight to a final position that is suitable for final approach and landing at a desired location. The flight dynamics of the autogyro is evaluated and a flight control system is developed for the unpowered flight. A simplified dynamic model is created for generation of the gliding trajectory from the starting point to a given final position and ground track, taking into account constant wind values. This model allows us to predict the vertical speed for a given vehicle state and, through optimization, to plan feasible trajectories with minimum altitude loss. Results for generation and tracking of the optimal trajectories are presented, showing good performance and the potential to be used with a sampling-based algorithm for real-time motion planning.

Nous nous proposons d’éclairer des moments clés de l’histoire de la pensée scientifique, qui ne sont pas passés à la postérité car ils n’ont joué de rôle que sur une durée limitée, et de les utiliser à des fins d’enseignement. Cette approche, qui demande une connaissance historique détaillée, permet de reformuler les objectifs d’apprentissage en immergeant élèves et étudiants dans le processus scientifique créatif au cours duquel des hypothèses théoriques sont testées. D’un point de vue épistémologique, notre approche réintroduit une continuité dans l’histoire des idées scientifiques et permet d’établir un dialogue entre des connaissances autrement présentées de manière cloisonnée. Ainsi, pour un public connaissant les bases de la mécanique newtonienne, le renvoi à l’utilisation de l’« équant » dans un modèle héliocentrique par Johannes Kepler permet d’introduire, à partir de la trajectoire circulaire, l’idée de mouvements planétaires elliptiques ; celui à l’utilisation du « temps local » de Hendrik Antoon Lorentz de 1895 permet d’introduire le caractère non absolu du temps et de l’exploiter dans un cadre relativiste. Rétrospectivement, la physique mise en jeu, au regard de la théorie « exacte », constitue une approximation au premier ordre dans les variables physiques du problème (l’excentricité e dans le premier cas ; le rapport V/c~10–4 dans le second).

This paper presents a data-driven approach towards time-optimal trajectory generation for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV's) using a machine-learned trajectory generation mechanism for point-to-point time-optimal trajectories on-the-fly. To train this machine-learned black box trajectory generator off-line, a model-based optimization problem is first constructed for point-to-point time-optimal trajectory generation, with physical constraints on inputs, states, and rates. The formulated optimization problem is then solved off-line for a range of initial and terminal flight states to generate point-to-point data-sets that consist of the optimal state and input trajectories. This information is compressed by parameterizing the input and state trajectories using a set of basis functions. This data is then used to train the neural network-based trajectory planner. The output of the neural network is the basis function coefficient sets for the state and input trajectories (and the total flight time) which can then be used to reconstruct the flight trajectory. Once the neural network is trained, the data-driven on-board trajectory generator is ready to be deployed on the UAV for on-board planning. This approach is demonstrated for two scenarios: (1) the input to the neural network being the initial and terminal flight states and (2) the input to the neural network being initial and terminal flight states as well as physical constraints. To validate the performance of the machine-learned black-box trajectory generator, the root mean squared error between the neural network generated trajectories and the trajectories obtained from solving the optimization problem directly is statistically evaluated. These trajectories are also tested for violation of path constraints (which are not included explicitly in the training or input to the black box planner) by evaluating the mean constraint violation for each path-constrained variable.

Abstract This study presents a method to predict the future trajectory of a target vessel using historical AIS data. The purpose of such a prediction is to aid in collision avoidance in future vessels. The method presented in this study extracts all trajectories present in an initial cluster centered about a vessel position. Features for each trajectory are then generated using Principle Component Analysis and used in clustering via unsupervised Gaussian mixture modeling. Each resultant cluster represents a possible future route the vessel may follow. A trajectory prediction is then conducted with respect to each cluster of trajectories discovered. This results in a prediction of multiple possible trajectories. The results indicate that the algorithm is effective in clustering the trajectories, where at least one cluster corresponds to the true trajectory of the vessel. The resultant predicted trajectories are also found to be reasonably accurate.

Trajectory similarity computation is a core problem in the field of trajectory data queries. However, the high time complexity of calculating the trajectory similarity has always been a bottleneck in real-world applications. Learning-based methods can map trajectories into a uniform embedding space to calculate the similarity of two trajectories with embeddings in constant time. In this paper, we propose a novel trajectory representation learning framework Traj2SimVec that performs scalable and robust trajectory similarity computation. We use a simple and fast trajectory simplification and indexing approach to obtain triplet training samples efficiently. We make the framework more robust via taking full use of the sub-trajectory similarity information as auxiliary supervision. Furthermore, the framework supports the point matching query by modeling the optimal matching relationship of trajectory points under different distance metrics. The comprehensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that our model substantially outperforms all existing approaches.

The proliferation of electronic devices with geopositioning capabilities has significantly increased trajectory data generation, thus opening up novel opportunities in mobility analysis. Our work considers the problem of assessing spatial similarity between trajectories, and focus on deep learning-based approaches that discretize trajectories using a uniform grid to generate their embeddings. In this context, t2vec is the reference approach. Large Language Models (LLMs) show promise in capturing patterns in mobility data. In this paper, we investigate whether an LLM can be repurposed to generate high-quality trajectory embeddings for the considered task. Using two real-world trajectory datasets, we consider repurposing three language models: Word2Vec, Doc2Vec, and BERT. Our results show that BERT, trained on dense trajectory datasets, can generate high-quality embeddings, thus highlighting the potential of LLMs.

Ornithopter studies in the past have focused on ornithopter construction, power sources, wing design, maximizing thrust, energy efficiency, steady flight trajectories, and flight stability. The next step is to control unsteady maneuvers: the transition from hovering flight to forward flight, turns, and vertical takeoff and landing. The design of stable trim conditions for forward flight and for hover has been achieved. In forward flight, an ornithopter is configured like a conventional airplane or large bird. Its fuselage is essentially horizontal and the wings heave in a vertical plane. In hover, however, the body pitches vertically so that the wing stroke in the horizontal plane. Thrust directed downward, the vehicle remains aloft while the downdraft envelops the tail to provide enough flow for vehicle control and stabilization. To connect these trajectories dynamically is the goal. This study of the transition from forward flight to hovering uses two approaches: to first achieve adequate trajectories, and then optimal trajectories. The object is to connect an initial state—in this case forward flight—and a final state—a steady hover at a designated point—through a feasible flight trajectory. A simple approach is to immediately switch between feedback controllers that regulate each trajectory. When the forward flight trajectory approaches the desired location, the computer switches to a control law that regulates the desired hovering trajectory, which—barring instability—should cause the vehicle to settle. A second approach is to select a range of intermediate trims to stabilize. Starting with the full forward speed, the controller will successively stabilize a trim with lower forward velocity. After a finite number of controllers, the system will achieve a stable hover. This approach would lessen the jump between trim conditions, increasing the likelihood of a stable transition. A third approach is to establish an open-loop trajectory through a trajectory optimization algorithm—optimized for shortest altitude drop, shortest stopping distance, or lowest energy consumption. This path itself could be stabilized. This serves to establish the feasibility of new maneuvers in mechanical flapping flight. It also will make it easier to perform the maneuvers by computer assisted control or by providing an example for a pilot to use.

Automatic generation of robot trajectory for adhesive spray is highly desirable for shoe manufacturing. However, nowadays robotic trajectories are programmed by teach-in instead of automatic approaches. To cope with it, an approach based on a programming tool will be described. It aims at enabling the automatic generation of robot spray trajectories from different kinds of shoe sole models in three-dimensional CAD files. Trajectory could be generated as an offset curve on the surface patch of shoe sole. A set of operating points in spray trajectory can be calculated by means of linear interpolation. At the same time, their orientations including tangential directions and normal directions are computed. Results show that this approach is highly time-efficient by avoiding tedious teaching processes. This study will increase the automation level of the shoe production as well as its flexibility, and is therefore expected to provide higher productivity.

Abstract Situation awareness is essential in conducting effective collision avoidance in potential ship encounter situations. It has been shown that data driven trajectory prediction techniques, utilizing historical AIS data, have the potential to aid in providing such awareness. However, such data driven techniques will not perform well for unusual ship behavior, i.e. anomalous trajectories. Additionally, such anomalies in the dataset can corrupt the predictions. In this study, an unsupervised approach to anomaly detection is presented to aid such trajectory predictions. Gaussian Mixture Models are used to cluster trajectories, such that clusters of both normal and anomalous trajectories are discovered. Further, anomalies are discovered within clusters of normal behavior. Novel trajectories can then also be evaluated based on a parametric description of the historical ship traffic. The approach is shown to be effective in detecting anomalies relevant in such a trajectory prediction scheme.

Le but du présent travail est d'évaluer l'apport que pourrait avoir l’imposition de règles budgétaires sur le retour au déficit 0 annoncé pour 2027-28 dans le budget 2021-22. Notre approche simule de nombreux scénarios économiques futurs, chacun incorporant des règles budgétaires. Cet exercice est répété un grand nombre de fois, ce qui génère une distribution des déficits budgétaires pour chaque horizon temporel désiré et pour chaque règle budgétaire analysée. Cette approche s’appuie sur une étude historique des écarts budgétaires pour développer un modèle de simulations des écarts qui prend en compte leur évolution dans le temps et leur corrélation entre les composantes budgétaires à l’aide d’un modèle à facteur. Notre approche en deux étapes permet de simuler des déficits futurs : en nous basant sur la valeur simulée du facteur, les écarts des diverses composantes budgétaires sont déterminés. Ensuite, pour chaque composante du budget, le revenu ou dépense avéré est obtenu directement de la valeur prévue au budget (qui reflète l’application d’une règle budgétaire) et de l’écart. La valeur simulée du déficit peut ainsi être calculée. Nous étudions par simulation l’impact de deux grandes classes de règles budgétaires. La première limite la croissance des dépenses de chaque mission à 5% par année alors que la deuxième permet une hausse plus élevée pour la santé et les services sociaux, 6%, que pour les autres missions, 2%. Chacune de ces règles est analysée sous un scénario de référence et deux spécifications alternatives : une première permet un effet de rétroaction et impose une diminution des dépenses si les cibles budgétaires sont ratées, alors que la deuxième considère une augmentation de l’incertitude économique et budgétaire. Dans ce rapport, nous prenons comme point de départ la trajectoire de déficits prévue par le Ministère dans les documents budgétaires de mars dernier. En particulier, nous imposons un retour à l’équilibre budgétaire lors de l’année fiscale 2027-28 et ajustons les revenus pour refléter cette contrainte. Nos résultats de simulation se trouvent aux tableaux 1 et 2 et sont synthétisés aux tableaux 3 et 4.

This special report identifies metrics (standard and novel) and analytic approaches to developing trajectories and then describes the conceptual process of using those metrics and approaches to develop restoration trajectories to inform adaptive management in salt-marsh systems. We identify the composite time series trajectory (CTST) approach, in which metrics are measured from restoration sites of different ages within a small spatial range, and the retrospective single-site trajectory (RSST) approach, in which the same restoration metrics are measured over time at one restoration site. In all, we assessed the metrics of 39 studies of salt-marsh restoration in the United States between 1991 and 2019.

Traffic signal performance measures based on connected vehicle (CV) trajectory data can provide practitioners actionable information on the operational state of their systems. A visualization framework that can enable agencies to quickly assess arterial-level performance by time-of-day (TOD) to identify challenges and opportunities has been recently developed. The framework provides information on four relevant signal performance measures over a corridor, including traditional Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) level of service (LOS), arrivals on green (AOG), split failures (SF), and downstream blockage (DSB). This document uses the proposed framework to provide 58 arterial-level performance reports analyzing 571 unique signalized intersections on 42 corridors in 14 different states. Results are estimated from over 18,000,000 vehicle trajectories and 328,000,000 GPS points. Since the reporting approach can provide up to 3,072 performance data points per intersection, this manuscript provides almost 2 million measures for all the analyzed locations.

What is needed is a pragmatic approach identifying joint action where possible and managing differences where necessary. This report proposes a transatlantic agenda aimed at achieving quick wins, with recommendations organized by seven issue areas.

Background: This review and exploratory data analysis focuses on everyday mobility at older age; that is, travel outside the house for routine activities. Everyday mobility is an important determinant of health and wellbeing. Although there can be physiological reasons for declines in an individual’s capacity for mobility, trajectories are uneven. A social model of mobility at older age assumes that impairments due to bodily ageing do not inevitably lead to reduced mobility, and that policy and environmental interventions (such as transport provision, quality of built environment) can and should support mobile later lives. We scope the potential for a study of the conditions which foster trajectories of maintained or increased mobility over time, in an equitable way. Aims: With a focus on corporeal mobility in the UK (in particular England), and on social and environmental, rather than physiological factors, our aims were to: 1) scope the existing evidence on trajectories of mobility at older age; 2) assess the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) as a possible source of data on changes in mobility over time; 3) outline the potential for further research through identifying candidate analytical approaches and; draft an initial logic model to inform a study. Literature review findings: Literature on mobility at older age documents physiological, lifecourse, social, and environmental factors that shape trajectories of declining mobility, and the health and wellbeing consequences. There are complex and bidirectional relationships between determinants and consequences of mobility. Points of disruption in the lifecourse are points where mobility practices may change and are therefore potential points for interventions to promote greater mobility. A body of research demonstrates this through the case of concessionary bus travel for older adults in the UK, which both promotes greater mobility and appears to improve health status. There is a more mixed body of research on the environmental factors that can foster greater mobility: more research is needed on how to support mobility in place in the UK, particularly in settings outside urban centres. Compared to research on physiological factors, there is a relative dearth of evidence on population level interventions, with the exception of free bus travel. ELSA summary: The main strength of using the ELSA for understanding what influences trajectories of everyday mobility is that it is an eighteen-year longitudinal study with data collection every two years, focussing on those aged 50 and over. The sample is drawn from across England, detailed contextual information is available via linked geographical identifiers, and longitudinal and cross-sectional weights enable adjustment of the sample for non-response and attrition. The weaknesses (for studies of mobility) are the lack of fine-grained measures of ‘ability’ for many mobility indicators and the potential for reporting biases that intersect with measures of social and cultural capital. In this descriptive analysis, we document six separate measures of everyday mobility that can be derived from ELSA data, and map these to our logic model. Implications: The review identified the potential for studying the conditions for mobility at older age that could help identify and develop population level interventions. Focusing on points of disruption in the lifecourse is a potentially fruitful and tractable area of investigation. We have mapped indicators available from ELSA as a foundation for future study, and as a resource for other researchers. ELSA has some disadvantages for a study, but also many strengths. Given the complexity of causal pathways linking different conditions for maintained or increased mobility, an analysis approach directed specifically at multiple pathways (such as Qualitative Comparative Analysis) could well be fruitful."

The authors of this paper attempt use quantitative methods to determine the different factors of livelihood trajectories in the context of agricultural commercialisation. To do this, they draw on primary evidence from household surveys conducted over a span of ten years in Mchinji and Ntchisi districts, in rural Malawi. The authors hypothesise that households that are more commercialised are more likely to expand their investments in agriculture and/or take up livelihoods outside of agriculture. Crucially, they find that factors driving livelihood trajectories are not the same for farmers in different pathways, and highlight the need for policymakers to study findings emphasise the need to adopt context-dependent development approaches, in order to provide sustainable relief from poverty for farming households.

In this paper, we study the drivers of public debt surges across 172 countries from 1980-2021. We focus on the role of discrepancies between the annual change in public debt and the budget deficit, referred to as stock-flow adjustments (SFA). The analysis employs survival methods to model the effect of SFA and other macroeconomic factors on the hazard rate for debt spike events. We differentiate between debt accumulation trends and spikes to examine how SFA influences the likelihood of a spike once a country is already on an increasing debt trajectory. Our results indicate that an increase of one percentage point in the SFA to GDP ratio increases the hazard rate of a surge by 15%. This effect is greater for advanced economies (25%) relative to emerging markets (14%). Moreover, contingent on a debt trend, a higher SFA significantly increases the chance that a spike will materialize, especially in advanced countries. We address the self-selection problem associated with SFA by using an IV approach based on the notion that fiscal transparency. We conclude that accurate SFA estimates are critical for debt sustainability analyses. Overall, our analysis provides novel evidence on the mechanisms underlying public debt surges and their consequences. Our findings can guide policymakers in identifying risks from hidden debt trajectories and improving transparency. The results are robust to various sensitivity checks and alternative specifications and methodologies.
