Abstract (sommario):
The location of infirmaries in Teutonic Order castles topography in late Medieval Prussia In the primary Rule of the Teutonic Order, written in the middle of the 13th century, maintaining hospitals by the organisation is in its content, yet the generality of the normative provisions contained in that source bears a number of questions which are difficult to answer in a satisfactory way. From the main paragraphs referring to that issue it is impossible to conclude whether those hospitals/infirmaries were intended for secular persons or the brother friars of the Order. Detailed regulations on the subject were additionally provided in Statutes written around the same time. In accordance with those provisions, if a friar knight fell ill, then he should stay in bed for a few days. In case of prolongation of this state, he was to be moved to a common chamber for the sick – the infirmary. Only the Grand Master and his deputy had the right to be treated in their own chambers. However, it must be remembered that those regulations were formulated mostly in reference to the main convent of the Teutonic Order in the Holy Land. This institution was subordinate to the Great Commander and it was him who provided for medical care and medicines for the sick through his appointed subordinate official (“firmariemeister”). From the 13th century normative sources it cannot be concluded where the infirmaries were supposed to be located in the castle grounds. What does this issue look like in reference to the state of the Teutonic Order in Prussia in the 14th and 15th centuries? Unfortunately, in the current literature of the subject it has been attempted to identify the locations of castle infirmaries exclusively on the basis of architectural data of preserved commander castles (still enerally sparse). Meanwhile, the problem is that limiting only to that sort of sources when examining the issue does not provide any evidential basis to indicate the location of infirmaries in the spatial configuration of the Teutonic strongholds. Only the analysis of written sources of the époque (starting with the end of the 14th century) allows to state that nearly all infirmaries of commander castles of the time in Prussia intended both for the members of the Teutonic Order (brothers, priests) and secular servants‑dieners were locate within the bailey. Sparse exceptions from that rule would only apply to the capital castle in Malbork, where one of the infirmaries might have been located in the area of the proper convent of the high castle and to the one in Konigsberg, where the infirmary for servant‑dieners of the Order was located outside the defensive walls of the bailey.

Abstract (sommario):
Temperature is the main climate factor related to induction, maintenance and dormancy release in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.). The inadequate chilling exposure in apples causes budbreak problems, resulting in decrease in yield potential. Thus, the knowledge of physiological principles and environmental factors determining the dormancy phenomenon, especially winter temperature effects, it is necessary for the efficient selection of cultivars in a productive region. In addition, it is indispensable to adapt the orchard management aiming to decrease the problems caused by lack chilling during winter. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different thermal conditions during the dormancy period on budbreak of apple cultivars. One-year-old twigs of 'Castel Gala' and 'Royal Gala' cultivars, grafted on M7 rootstock, were submitted to temperatures of 5, 10 and 15ºC for different exposure periods (168; 336; 672; 1,008 and 1,344 hours). After treatments execution, the plants were kept in a greenhouse at 25ºC. Budbreak was quantified when accumulated 3,444; 6,888; 10,332; 13,776; 17,220 and 20,664 GDHºC after temperature treatments. The cultivars responded differently to temperature effect during the winter period. The temperature of 15ºC during winter shows a greater effectiveness on 'Castel Gala' apple budbreak while in the 'Royal Gala' apples the temperatures of 5 and 10ºC show better performance. 'Castel Gala' cultivar (low chilling requirement) may supply its physiological necessities, may be capable to budburst, even when subjected to higher temperatures in relation to 'Royal Gala' apples (high chilling requirement).

Abstract (sommario):
Caste carries a sort of symbolic value. For those who are at the top in the hierarchical Indian caste system have positive symbolic value of caste and those who remain in the bottom have negative value of it. It is so infectious that everyone in this system wants to assert his supremacy over the next one and this hierarchy goes on till the lowest of the low. Dalits are no exception to this rule. Dalits as a community has been victims of caste-based atrocities since the inception of caste-system but they do not hesitate to apply the same sort of caste rules among themselves. Having been beguiled by the Brahmanical ideologies, Dalits have divided themselves into many castes on the basis of high and low. By doing so, they have unknowingly reinforced their own torture in the hands of their oppressors. Bama is a prolific Dalit writer who has touched upon this very sensitive issue of inter-caste violence among Dalits in her third novel, Vanmam: Vendetta. In the novel, she has underscored how Dalits fight among themselves in the name of high and low caste falling prey to the ideologies of their oppressors. In this researcher paper, a genuine effort has been made to highlight how castebecomes functional in promoting inter caste violence among people of two Dalit castes in a village of Tamilnadu.

Abstract (sommario):
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of heat waves on the evolution of bud dormancy, in apple trees with contrasting chilling requirements. Twigs of 'Castel Gala' and 'Royal Gala' were collected in orchards in Papanduva, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, and were exposed to constant (3°C) or alternating (3 and 15°C for 12/12 hours) temperature, combined with zero, one or two days a week at 25°C. Two additional treatments were evaluated: constant temperature (3°C), with a heat wave of seven days at 25°C, in the beginning or in the middle of the experimental period. Periodically, part of the twigs was transferred to 25°C for daily budburst evaluation of apical and lateral buds. Endodormancy (dormancy induced by cold) was overcome with less than 330 chilling hours (CH) of constant cold in 'Castel Gala' and less than 618 CH in 'Royal Gala'. A daily 15°C-temperature cycle did not affect the endodormancy process. Heat waves during endodormancy resulted in an increased CH to achieve bud requirements. The negative effect of high temperature depended on the lasting of this condition. Chilling was partly cancelled during dormancy when the heat wave lasted 36 continuous hours or more. Therefore, budburst prediction models need adjustments, mainly for regions with mild and irregular winters, such as those of Southern Brazil.

Abstract (sommario):
Literature has always been linked to psychoanalysis by literary critics and literary theorists in the academic field of literary criticism or theory. The Freudian psychoanalytic approach focuses primarily on exploring and analyzing an individual’s inner world. This study examines Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto from the viewpoint of the psychoanalysis theory founded on Freud’s interpretations of the behaviours of human beings and discusses the novel from that perspective. These behaviours result from the subconscious part of humans and in which they are connected to internal and external conflicts. Freud believes the unconscious mind is the root of all strange behaviours and mental illnesses and points out that the social context is a significant factor in these afflictions. The study aims to apply psychoanalytic theory to analyze in-depth the self-conflict, repetition of language, and taboos that appear in The Castle of Otranto to present examples of internal or external conflicts that are held in the subconscious as being part of human beings’ essence, and eventually as the primary source of disturbance of human behaviour.

Abstract (sommario):
Since antioxidant enzymes activity affects the end of dormancy stage, it is important to understand the responses given by antioxidant enzymes and their roles in budbreak induction in temperate fruit trees. This research aimed at evaluating the antioxidant enzymes activity at the end of budbreak stage after the inducers application to ‘Castel Gala’ apple trees and their performance in budbreak and blooming. Seven treatments were carried out: Erger® 3% + calcium nitrate 5%; Erger® 5% + calcium nitrate 5%; Erger® 7% + calcium nitrate 5%; garlic extract (GE) 5% + mineral oil (MO) 2%; GE 10% + MO 2%; GE 15% + MO 2%; and the control. Buds were collected one, four and seven days after the application (DAA) of budbreak inducers, and activity of the following enzymes was determined by: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX). Besides that, hydrogen peroxide was quantified. Percentages of budbreak and blooming were evaluated at 32th, 40 th, 45 th and 52 th DAA. The results showed that SOD activity had increased as the dormancy stage reached its end. CAT activity was influenced by the application of budbreak inducers. It decreased significantly throughout the experiment in the most efficient treatment. Percentages of budbreak (61.85%) and blooming (25.44%) showed the highest efficiency in the treatment with Erger® 7% + calcium nitrate 5%, which was the inducer with the highest potential in ‘Castel Gala’ apple trees

Abstract (sommario):
Few commentators would dispute that, as regards historical records, 1922 was a year of destruction and displacement. Months before the conflagration in the Four Courts annihilated a broad cross-section of official records the departing representatives of the crown régime had turned their attention to those most recently in use. Nobody really knows how much of this material was deliberately burnt in Dublin Castle in the days preceding the takeover by Free State troops on 16 January 1922. It is all but certain that at least some intelligence files were destroyed: these would no doubt have identified informants, double agents, serving intelligence officers (whether English or Irish), and the more discreet crown servants. Certainly the new custodians were greeted by empty cupboards and bare shelves. Legends, which may or may not have been founded in reality, grew of the extent of the destruction and, by implication, of the scale of the guilty secrets thus concealed forever. But the incoming officials were in no doubt, either, that much had been simply removed, whether to the Irish Office in London or to some other safe place. Assurances were offered to the Free State government by the departing Castle official A. W. Cope ‘that the only papers we are removing from the Castle to London are confidential papers relating to the political movement in this country. The removal of the papers will not hamper the future administration.’ Should any person apply for the return of papers seized in police raids during the conflict, their requests would be considered. Cope was being less than candid. During March an Irish Office official noted in an unmistakably complaining tone that the office was having to accommodate ‘a number of files belonging to the Crimes Special Department of the R.I.C. and an Irish Secret Service organisation. Some of the matter in these files is highly secret.’ The material occupied one hundred deed-boxes, half-a-dozen large packing cases, a couple of six-foot-high cupboards, along with thirty-eight card-index trays (‘twelve of them in cabinets’).

We consider the reasons for nowcasting, the timing of information and sources thereof, especially contemporaneous data, which introduce different aspects compared to forecasting. We allow for the impact of location shifts inducing nowcast failure and nowcasting during breaks, probably with measurement errors. We also apply a variant of the nowcasting strategy proposed in Castle and Hendry (2009) to nowcast Euro Area GDP growth. Models of disaggregate monthly indicators are built by automatic methods, forecasting all variables that are released with a publication lag each period, then testing for shifts in available measures including survey data, switching to robust forecasts of missing series when breaks are detected.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We examine the narrative structure of The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick. We place the novel in the context of the alternate history genre of speculative fiction. Noting its complex plot with multiple timelines, we apply the theoretical ideas of Mikhail Bakhtin and Umberto Eco and show how its chronotope, or relationship between space and time, resembles that of a multicursal labyrinth. We connect this analysis with ideas in quantum physics, particularly the Many Worlds Interpretation, and show how it explains the ambiguity of the novel’s ending, and the failure of the characters to reach their goals. In particular, the characters’ search for truth is thwarted by the existence of multiple truths in a maze of competing realities.

Abstract (sommario):
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present the diversity and equality perspectives from the national context of India and introduce a special issue about equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in India.Design/methodology/approachThis special issue consists of six articles on current EDI issues in India. The first three of the contributions are focused on descriptions of diversity challenges and policies regarding caste and disabilities, while the remaining three papers address gender diversity.FindingsIn addition to providing an overview of this issue's articles, this paper highlights developments and current themes in India's country-specific equality and diversity scholarship. Drawing on the special issue's six papers, the authors show the relevance of Western theories while also pointing to the need for reformulation of others in the context of India.Research limitations/implicationsThe authors conclude with a call to further explore diversity in India and to develop locally relevant, culture-sensitive theoretical frameworks. Religious and economic diversity should receive more attention in future diversity management scholarship in the Indian context.Originality/valueHow does India experience equality and diversity concepts? How are India's approaches similar or different from those experienced in other countries? How do theoretical frameworks originated in the West apply in India? Are new, locally grounded frameworks needed to better capture the developments at play? These questions are addressed by the contributions to this special issue.

Abstract (sommario):
The article highlights the results of the research of the Castle Bridge in Kamianets-Podilsky, which allowed to deepen the chronology of the bridge’s appearance back to the first centuries AD ‒ the age of Trajan’s Wars, and to insert the Castle Bridge into the context of fortification construction represented by the remains of the defense structures of the first centuries AD that were discovered in Kamianets-Podilsky in 1970 ‒1990. The search of architectural and construction analogues of the bridge has led to the reliefs depicted on the Trajan’s Column in Rome (113 AD), the analysis of which allowed, in its turn, to rebut the generally accepted by the world science attribution of one of the column’s reliefs (XCIX) as the depiction of the Bridge over Danube, constructed in 103‒105 by Apollodorus of Damascus during the Dacian Wars. The author suggest a new attribution of the image of this bridge on Trajan’s Column, interpreting one of the well-known reliefs as the depiction of the bridge (LXXXVI). She argues in favor of the fact that the Bridge over Danube was completely made of stone and had no wooden arches. It became the first attempt of Apollodorus of Damascus, the author of the dome of Pantheon in Rome, to apply the Roman concrete in arches on large-scale constructions. Using the reliefs of the column as analogy allowed the author to reconstruct the image of the bridge in Kamyanets-Podilsky for the period of the first centuries AD. The conducted researches also give grounds to consider the Middle Dniester region as a contact zone on the border of early-Slavic and late-Antique worlds.

Recent mathematical advances, growing alongside the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, have not only overcome the restriction of roll and pitch angles during flight but also enabled us to apply non-metric cameras in photogrammetric method, providing more flexibility for sensor selection. Fisheye cameras, for example, advantageously provide images with wide coverage; however, these images are extremely distorted and their non-uniform resolutions make them more difficult to use for mapping or terrestrial 3D modelling. In this paper, we compare the usability of different camera-lens combinations, using the complete workflow implemented in Pix4Dmapper to achieve the final terrestrial reconstruction result of a well-known historical site in Switzerland: the Chillon Castle. We assess the accuracy of the outcome acquired by consumer cameras with perspective and fisheye lenses, comparing the results to a laser scanner point cloud.

Abstract (sommario):
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) is emerging as an important link in modern education, seamlessly integrating different disciplines and fostering creativity and critical thinking. STEAM is particularly useful for children aged 5-8, whose genuine interest and curiosity actively engage them in learning this educational approach. It not only enriches students, but also inspires teachers to use innovative approaches to teaching different subjects. Science education is increasingly becoming an integral part of STEAM, in line with Lithuania's education strategy "Lithuania 2030". Successful STEAM education depends on a supportive school environment, effective leadership and teacher competences. This educational concept is in line with the objectives of the Strategy for Progress, with its emphasis on personalised learning and the formation of an innovative society. In the study, the integration of STEAM subjects allowed pupils to explore the links between disciplines and to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. The results revealed successful learning: students acquired knowledge about medieval castles and developed creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking skills by designing and building castles in groups. Keywords: primary education, STEAM education, educational activities, knowledge and skills

Abstract (sommario):
The use of women's language with a Balinese cultural background with a patriarchal culture is interesting to analyze. The novel 'Tempurung' by Oka Rusmini tells the story of women with Balinese cultural backgrounds. There are sixteen female characters in this novel, while three are male characters. This study analyzes the features of women's language used by female characters, which are analyzed using the referential, pragmatic, and distribution methods. Based on the results of the analysis, female characters use eight out of ten features of the female language, namely intensifier (40.72%), empty adjectives (17.01%), tag questions (16.49%), super polite form (7.22%), rising intonation on declarative (6.70%), hypercorrect grammar (6.70%), emphatic stress (3.09%), and lexical hedges or fillers (2.06%). Avoid strong swear words, and female characters do not apply precise colour terms. Female characters' use of women's language features is motivated by a patriarchal culture that makes men superior while women are inferior. The caste system in Balinese culture also underlies the use of female language features by female characters, for example, using polite forms when speaking with interlocutors who have a higher caste.

Abstract (sommario):
Dalit community has been suffered in every aspect due to the institutionalized discrimination of the Hindu caste system in Nepal which is also known as the output of the religious and political reasons. This unfair practice has left a clear mark of social division, exclusion and inequality severely ruining Dalits' life and identity. Sarad Paudel addresses this issue and offers a glimpse of being a Dalit or untouchable in his novel Likhe. He narrates episodes of verbal and physical violence; recurrent inter- and intra-caste discrimination, which depicts the traumatic existence of that oppressed community. Other dominations and discriminations are less traumatic in the comparison of the cultural trauma caused by untouchability, which is like an incurable disease. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to examine the Dalit trauma as represented in this novel. To analyze the representation of traumatic experience in Dalits, the researcher has tried to apply the theoretical insights based on Jeffrey C. Alexander, Stuart Hall, Sigmund Freud and Cathy Caruth's exploration on trauma. This paper attempts to reveal how Dalit people have been living in the society bearing harsh torture, trauma and inhuman treatment in the context of Hindu Brahmin dominated society. This study adds new avenue for academic discussion in the field of academia so as to address the age-long discriminatory system in order to create a just and healthy society without any forms of discrimination in the name of race, class caste, color and gender. Therefore, this issue needs further exploration in academic discourse.

Abstract (sommario):
In India, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 completed its ten years in April 2023. However, this is a crucial time to review its effects, provisions, and the awareness about the Act, and how much it has percolated at the grassroots level. Consequently, we must pay attention to the voices from the margin in order to comprehend the situation and need to bring these voices to the center to point out the lacuna and challenges of the Act as well as strengthen the discourse around the sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The study based on empirical findings, focuses on experiences of women workers at a wholesale vegetable market in Pune1 and follows an ethnographic approach. The article argues that mainstream discourse on sexual harassment does not acknowledge experiences of women from the bottom of the socio-economic margins and it is a caste-blind gender discourse. Caste shapes women’s experiences of sexual harassment at workplace differently and sometimes to mitigate the risk, women apply different strategies and build alternative mechanisms to combat sexual harassment at the workplace.

Abstract Danitol was evaluated for its ability to provided seasonal control of codling moth and other apple pests. This test was conducted in a 15-year-old apple orchard with under-tree irrigation. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with 5 single-tree replicates per treatment. Materials were applied in a dilute spray to the point of drip (approximately 400 gal per acre) with a handgun sprayer operating at 400-500 psi. One application was made in the delayed dormant (dd) period (10 Apr) combined with 4 gal of spray oil per acre. The check was treated in the delayed dormant period with 8 gal of spray oil per acre. There were no subsequent insecticide applications to the check. Two applications were made against first generation codling moth. The first was timed to coincide with predicted 3% egg hatch or 250 degree days following first moth (23 May). The second was made 21 days following the first (13 Jun). One application was made against second generation and timed at 1290 degree days after first moth (19 Jul). All fruit on each tree were examined after first generation of codling moth was complete. Numbers of entries were recorded. At harvest (23 Sep) all fruit(or a maximum of 400) from each tree were examined and numbers of injured fruit recorded. Mites were sampled bi-weekly from mid-Jun through Sep. Fifty leaves were collected from each treatment (10 per tree), brushed in a mite brushing machine and the mites of each species counted. At harvest terminals infested with green apple aphid were counted and recorded. Woolly apple aphid densities were estimated by examining 10 shoots per tree and counting colonies observed. Densities of white apple leafhopper were determined by counting nymphs and caste skins on 10 leaves per tree.

Abstract The Mesozoic–Cenozoic convergent margin history of southern Alaska has been dominated by arc magmatism, terrane accretion, strike-slip fault systems, and possible spreading-ridge subduction. We apply 40Ar/39Ar, apatite fission-track (AFT), and apatite (U-Th)/He (AHe) geochronology and thermochronology to plutonic and volcanic rocks in the southern Talkeetna Mountains of Alaska to document regional magmatism, rock cooling, and inferred exhumation patterns as proxies for the region’s deformation history and to better delineate the overall tectonic history of southern Alaska. High-temperature 40Ar/39Ar thermochronology on muscovite, biotite, and K-feldspar from Jurassic granitoids indicates postemplacement (ca. 158–125 Ma) cooling and Paleocene (ca. 61 Ma) thermal resetting. 40Ar/39Ar whole-rock volcanic ages and 45 AFT cooling ages in the southern Talkeetna Mountains are predominantly Paleocene–Eocene, suggesting that the mountain range has a component of paleotopography that formed during an earlier tectonic setting. Miocene AHe cooling ages within ∼10 km of the Castle Mountain fault suggest ∼2–3 km of vertical displacement and that the Castle Mountain fault also contributed to topographic development in the Talkeetna Mountains, likely in response to the flat-slab subduction of the Yakutat microplate. Paleocene–Eocene volcanic and exhumation-related cooling ages across southern Alaska north of the Border Ranges fault system are similar and show no S-N or W-E progressions, suggesting a broadly synchronous and widespread volcanic and exhumation event that conflicts with the proposed diachronous subduction of an active west-east–sweeping spreading ridge beneath south-central Alaska. To reconcile this, we propose a new model for the Cenozoic tectonic evolution of southern Alaska. We infer that subparallel to the trench slab breakoff initiated at ca. 60 Ma and led to exhumation, and rock cooling synchronously across south-central Alaska, played a primary role in the development of the southern Talkeetna Mountains, and was potentially followed by a period of southern Alaska transform margin tectonics.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Songbirds apply ants to their feathers during anting behavior, possibly as a method of reducing feather parasites. We tested polar and nonpolar ant secretions and pure formic acid for bactericidal and fungicidal effects on microbial ectoparasites of feathers. Microbial inhibition trials were run with the bacteria Bacillus licheniformis (strains OWU 138B and OWU 1432B) and B. subtilis; and with the fungi Chaetomium globosum, Penicillium chrysogenum, and Trichoderma viride. Ant chemicals were derived from Camponotus pennsylvanicus, Pheidole dentata, Aphaenogaster rudis, Crematogaster lineolata, and Lasius flavus worker-caste ants. Although pure formic acid strongly inhibited all bacteria and fungal hyphae tested, concentrations of formic acid found in the bodies of formicine ants did not. Neither hexane ant-chemical extracts nor ant suspensions in deionized water inhibited the microbial species. Consequently, the hypothesis that birds apply ants to control feather parasites was not supported.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to the consideration of the criminal subculture from the standpoint of the philosophical and anthropological trend - human ethology. It is shown that the laws of ethology are manifested in the behavior of convicts who are committed to the prison subculture. The role of genetic research in the ethological analysis of the prison subculture is shown. A comparative systemic analysis of the role of the ethological component in the formation of individual criminal behavior and the role of the ethological factor in prison caste formation has been carried out. The similarity of models of caste formation in the collectives of convicts and among representatives of the animal world is shown. It is concluded that it is necessary to apply the laws of ethology when developing a strategy to counter the prison subculture.

Abstract (sommario):
Constitutional guarantees are such a body of interests or basic human rights which are inevitable for each human being. These rights are principally inherent, inalienable, and universal, and therefore, irrespective of race, sex, caste, color, or religion, everyone can enjoy them. Constitutional guarantees are distinct from all other rights and privileges because of at least two unique characteristics, such as intrinsic in nature, and inalienability. These guarantees are crucial in the state-individual relations, and recognized by major laws of the civilized nations, and often enshrined in the national constitutions. For instance, the US Constitution signifies the essence of these rights through the expression of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Nonetheless, very often, many citizens across the globe are deprived of these rights on numerous pretends and grounds, and mostly, on the public-private dichotomy. This study examined contemporary legal and philosophical discourses as to whether the constitutional guarantees of human rights apply in the private sectors in Malaysia, India, and the United States. This study used doctrinal legal research methodology with a qualitative approach based on library resources. The findings of this study showed that constitutional guarantees, primarily human rights, are presumed to have been neither created nor made but originated like organic growth. Accordingly, no authority can take them away. By examining various logics from theological to socio-historical points of view and the theory of international law, this study concluded that constitutional guarantees, particularly the equal protection of the law, should apply horizontally to cover both public and private sectors. KEYWORDS: Constitutional Guarantees, Human Rights, Public-Private Sectors.

Abstract (sommario):
Wild boars are wild ungulates with a wide distribution in Europe, with a relevant role in wildlife and public health. In Spain, high (and sometimes artificial) densities of wild boars are responsible for several health problems. Regular surveys, with hunters’ collaboration, are crucial to monitor these diseases. Histological analyses were performed for lung, liver, and kidneys from 72 wild boars (58 from Zamora, 16 from Palencia). Lungs were the most affected organs, mainly revealing parasitic pneumonia (34.7%). Hydropic, vacuolar, and other cellular changes (33.3%) and congestion (16.7%) were found in the liver, and only 30.6% of the wild boars presented no alterations in this organ. Regarding the kidney, non-purulent nephritis (22.2%) was the most common lesion. This study gives an overview of the health status of wild boar populations in Castile and León. Other laboratory analyses are needed to obtain definitive diagnoses of these lesions, reach other conclusions, or apply any mitigation strategies to protect animals’ or consumers’ health.

Abstract (sommario):
Imagine a princess asleep in a castle, waiting for her prince to slay the dragon and rescue her. Tales like the famous Sleeping Beauty clearly divide up gender roles. But what about more modern stories, borne of a generation increasingly aware of social constructs like sexism and racism? Do these stories tend to reinforce gender stereotypes, or counter them? In this paper, we present a technique that combines natural language processing with a crowdsourced lexicon of stereotypes to capture gender biases in fiction. We apply this technique across 1.8 billion words of fiction from the Wattpad online writing community, investigating gender representation in stories, how male and female characters behave and are described, and how authors' use of gender stereotypes is associated with the community's ratings. We find that male over-representation and traditional gender stereotypes (e.g., dominant men and submissive women) are common throughout nearly every genre in our corpus. However, only some of these stereotypes, like sexual or violent men, are associated with highly rated stories. Finally, despite women often being the target of negative stereotypes, female authors are equally likely to write such stereotypes as men.

Abstract (sommario):
Key challenges in Internet-of-Things (IoT) system design and management include the secure system composition and the calculation of the security and dependability level of the final system. This paper presents an event-based model-checking framework for IoT systems’ design and management, called CompoSecReasoner. It invokes two main functionalities: (i) system composition verification, and (ii) derivation and validation of security, privacy, and dependability (SPD) metrics. To measure the SPD values of a system, we disassemble two well-known types of security metrics—the attack surface methodologies and the medieval castle approach. The first method determines the attackable points of the system, while the second one defines the protection level that is provided by the currently composed system-of-systems. We extend these techniques and apply the Event Calculus method for modelling the dynamic behavior of a system with progress in time. At first, the protection level of the currently composed system is calculated. When composition events occur, the current system status is derived. Thereafter, we can deploy reactive strategies and administrate the system automatically at runtime, implementing a novel setting for Moving Target Defenses. We demonstrate the overall solution on a real ambient intelligence application for managing the embedded devices of two emulated smart buildings.

Abstract (sommario):
The word Gothic refers back to the Dark ages in England. The Roman civilization was ruined by the Goths who were the barbarians at that time. As a result of the destruction of Roman Empire, the whole civilization underwent ignorance and darkness. Nowadays, the word Gothic has a variety of meaning and applications. Gothic novels portray exaggerated scenes, haunted castles, monsters and vampires. Scottish Gothic literature started after 1800. This paper will focus on one of the Scottish short stories by James Hogg, “The Mysterious Bride”. Some elements of Gothic and grotesque such as transgression of boundaries, suspense, uncanny and supernatural being are discussed within this short story in order to indicate Hogg’s main intention to use Gothic and grotesque elements in “The Mysterious Bride”. Among all the elemnts in Gothic and grotesque, this paper will mainly apply the presence of the opposites, uncanny, abnormal beings and supernatural events to James Hogg’s “The Mysterious Bride”.

Abstract (sommario):
Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) cutters have been popularly used in recent times due to their resistance against mechanical and thermal wear. This paper was focused on interface geometries between the substrate and the diamond table. Various types of interfaces were designed, to investigate how different interface geometries influence distribution of stress and strain under shear loading. The interface geometries examined in this paper included castle interface, dent interface, honeycomb interface and chase interface. Parallel to the interface, shear loading was applied to the top of diamond table to mimic the shear loading component from the rock cutting. To apply the shear loading, two locations were considered for each of the geometries. These locations differed depending on the interface features. Stress and strain distribution and values across different interface geometries were analysed with the aid of 3D Finite Element Method (FEM). The numerical simulations indicated that stress and strain magnitudes and distribution patterns varied in relation to different geometries. Some substrates showed relatively lower plastic strain representing higher durability of the geometries. Concentration of stress and strain distribution showed the areas where one could expect weakness. It also implies that rotating the PDC cutter assemblies around their cylindrical axis helps avoiding fatigue of interface elements in regions of high stress concentration; and thus, preventing premature failure of interface elements.

Abstract (sommario):
Joshua Landy says “formative fictions” help us fine-tune our mental capacities. This article looks at how novels for young adults may challenge readers to fine-tune their capacities as readers of more complex fiction. Three sample titles ( I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, The Tricksters by Margaret Mahy, and Slay by Brittney Morris) make use of character-authors to invite readers to negotiate the terms of reading. Young readers normally have extensive childhood experience in the social negotiation of the terms of make-believe games (“You be the daddy”) and can apply this expertise to the challenge of these novels as they interact with the explicit observations of the heroines about the making of stories. This article takes up Aidan Chambers’ challenge to analyze materials for youth as a separate literature. By exploring the work of three novels published over a 70-year span, (the titles were published in 1948, 1986, and 2019), it meets his demand to include the history of youth literature in our considerations. In these sample texts, young readers are invited to turn back to early childhood in order to make use of the skills and experience of fictional engagement as first developed in pretend games; as a consequence, they develop more subtle capacities as interpreters of complex fiction, thus addressing a major challenge of what Chambers calls “the age between.”

Abstract (sommario):
This paper aims to explore the factors that drive brand love for Apple in Saudi Arabia, which have not been studied previously. The study utilized the PROCESS macro on SPSS with models 4 and 15 to analyze the data collected from Saudi Arabian consumers. The findings confirmed that self-image congruence has both a direct effect, which equals 0.429, and an indirect effect through price perception, amounting to 0.083, on brand love. This means consumers who perceive themselves as similar to the brand in terms of personality, values, and lifestyles are more likely to develop a strong affection for Apple. The study also revealed the negative moderation of prestige sensitivity in the relationship between self-image congruence and brand love. In fact, the effect of self-image congruence on brand love is significantly higher (0.504) among individuals displaying low prestige sensitivity compared to those exhibiting high prestige sensitivity (0.323). However, the results did not support the moderation of prestige sensitivity in the relationship between price perception and brand love. Overall, this paper contributes to the existing literature on brand love, self-image congruence, price perception, and prestige sensitivity. The findings provide valuable insights for marketers to develop effective strategies to enhance consumers’ emotional connection with their brands. By understanding the importance of self-image congruence and considering the role of prestige sensitivity, marketers can better tailor their marketing messages and branding efforts to appeal to Saudi Arabian consumers. This study highlights the importance of cultural differences in consumer behavior and provides a basis for future research. Abstract (sommario):
This paper makes an attempt to explore how the concept of memory works as a tool of resistance in the narratives of the Bengali Dalit women writers in the Partitioned Bengal. The Bengali Dalit women have been marginalized in different ways, and the history of these women has been neglected. But the atma-katha (life-story) of the Bengali Dalit women seeks to question the accepted official historical record of Bengal. In this paper, I propose to examine the narratives of Dr. Puspa Bairagya and Kalyani Thakur Charal which were chiefly produced in the twenty-first century Bengal and were anti-caste narratives and thereby provide an insight into the counter-memories of the Bengali Dalit women. I would like to apply the autobiographical memory theory to the narratives of these writers. My prospective paper endeavors to illuminate personal agency and healing and would hope to generate a new understanding of the texts in the Indian context.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has been rapidly developing and widely applied in biological and medical research. Identification of cell types in scRNA-seq data sets is an essential step before in-depth investigations of their functional and pathological roles. However, the conventional workflow based on clustering and marker genes is not scalable for an increasingly large number of scRNA-seq data sets due to complicated procedures and manual annotation. Therefore, a number of tools have been developed recently to predict cell types in new data sets using reference data sets. These methods have not been generally adapted due to a lack of tool benchmarking and user guidance. In this article, we performed a comprehensive and impartial evaluation of nine classification software tools specifically designed for scRNA-seq data sets. Results showed that Seurat based on random forest, SingleR based on correlation analysis and CaSTLe based on XGBoost performed better than others. A simple ensemble voting of all tools can improve the predictive accuracy. Under nonideal situations, such as small-sized and class-imbalanced reference data sets, tools based on cluster-level similarities have superior performance. However, even with the function of assigning ‘unassigned’ labels, it is still challenging to catch novel cell types by solely using any of the single-cell classifiers. This article provides a guideline for researchers to select and apply suitable classification tools in their analysis workflows and sheds some lights on potential direction of future improvement on classification tools.

Abstract (sommario):
This article analyses the social theology and practice of Scottish presbyterian missionaries towards hinduism in early twentieth-century western India. It reveals a radical contrast in Scottish missionary practice and outlook with the earlier activities of Alexander Duff (1806–78) in India from 1829 to 1864 as well as with contemporaneous discourse on non-christian religion and ethnicity which was prevalent at home in Scotland. The article argues that Scottish presbyterian missionaries selectively adapted and elaborated radical social theology from late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Scotland to deal with the hindu socio-religious out-casting and economic exploitation that they experienced during their christian proselytisation in early twentieth-century western India. In particular, the article analyses the social theology of the United Free Church missionary Reverend Alexander Robertson, who lived and worked in western India from 1902 to 1937. Robertson sought to re-invent and apply radical Scottish social theology to the material development and religious conversion of Dalit or impoverished out-caste hindu populations in western India. The article also contrasts this Scottish missionary social theology and practice with the secular Edwardian Liberal ideas of Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree (1871–1954), which Robertson's colleague and colonial administrator, Harold H. Mann (1872–1961) sought to implement towards Dalit people when he was Agricultural Chemist of Bombay Presidency after 1907 and Director of Agriculture for the Bombay Presidency in Pune from 1918 to 1927. In this context, the article argues more broadly that popular Orientalist discourse on non-christian religion and ethnicity at home in Scotland and perceptions of a subordinate Scottish relationship with the London metropole conceal the radical dimensions of Scottish identity within empire and the ways in which the interaction of radical practices between imperial peripheries like Scotland and India conditioned imperial development.

Abstract (sommario):
Engaged Buddhism refers to Buddhists who are seeking ways to apply the insights from meditation practice and dharma teachings to situations of social, political, environmental, and economic suffering and injustice. The Non-duality of Personal and Social Practice is making such engagement possible even today. Buddhist teachings themselves as the restrictive social conditions within which Asian Buddhism has had to function. To survive in the often ruthless world of kings and emperors, Buddhism needed to emphasize its otherworldliness. This encouraged Buddhist institutions and Buddhist teachings (especially regarding karma and merit) to develop in ways that did not question the social order. In India today, Modern democracy and respect for human rights, however imperfectly realized, offer new opportunities for understanding the broader implications of Buddhist teachings. Furthermore, while it is true that the post/modern world is quite different from the Buddha‟s, Buddhism is thriving today because its basic principles remain just as true as when the Buddha taught them. A classic case of engaged Buddhism in India is discussed in this paper which deliberates on the Dalit- Buddhist equation in modern India. For Dalits, whose material circumstances were completely different from the higher castes, the motivation continually remained: to find out concerning suffering and to achieve its finish, in every person‟s life and in society. Several of them have turned to Dhamma in response to the Buddha‟s central message concerning suffering and therefore the finish of suffering. Previously lower-caste Hindus, the Indian Buddhists in Nagpur regenerate under the political influence of Babasaheb Ambedkar, the author of India‟s constitution, to denounce caste oppression. They became Buddhist for political and religious reasons, and today, the implications of their actions still unfold in some ways. Their belief in the four seals of Buddhism – • All physical things are impermanent, • All emotions are the reasons for pain, • All things don't have any inherent existence and • Nirvana is the moderation in life, Have created them renounce the atrocities and injustice of Hindu savarnas that were carried on since last several centuries.

Abstract (sommario):
Gender is a social function that does not exist in a vacuum. It is influenced by caste, class, ethnicity, and race, forming a complex matrix. This article considers the Garhbeta-II Community Development Block (CDB) of West Bengal. The authors have observed that women contribute almost equally to their families as their husbands in the study area. They cannot apply their democratic right to make decisions in their own lives. They have no agency or institution to care for their feelings and ideas. Therefore, the social lives of the women of the region are hampered. Gender inequality impoverishes a nation and creates constraints for holistic social development. Empowerment eliminates disparities and injustices against women. This study aims to a reorientation of the present social structure. It employed a case study method to attain the study goals. A specialized policy framework, special funding, and reservations in every social sector are required to ensure these marginalized women's social exclusion. The administration should focus on women's capacity building to minimize the gender gap.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this paper is to look at poems in Indian languages to explore how the idea of socialist-realist poetics was received in these languages and how it played a crucial role over time. The Indian poets, inspired by the idea of socialist realism, tried utmost to convert the oppressed peoples’ voice into poetic aesthetic. How did they address the conflicting space between the middleclass-centered morale, values, class consciousness and the desire of a working-class revolution? How did they apply a prototyped optimism of the socialist-realist model in the caste-based, religion-tormented Indian reality? Was the socialist-realist poetics insufficient to represent the voice of the oppressed? Did the socialist-realist critics misjudge the poetic aesthetic and the progressive elements? Sometimes the line between mere propaganda/slogan and the poetic aesthetic became blurred and sometimes artificial optimism failed to look at the real reactions of the working class. The point at which this paper would conclude is the transition of poetry from a propagandist tool to a more radical poetic discourse on the Indian reality.

Abstract (sommario):
The platonic love poetry was considered as one of the most important kinds of lyrics or the lyric poetry; it spread widely in the Umayad’s castles Although some scholars differ wether this kind of poetry was belonging to this very era or to earlier periods, the history of literature had been biased toward making it belongs to the Umayad era. The latter was proved after the appearance of many poets who wrote fascinating poems about the pure love, the suffering, the pain and the longing of the poet to his sole beloved, like what is found in the poetry of Djamil Ibn Maamar. Those love poems contained their stories, heroes, themes and their own objects of value, some are with and others are against. So, the narrative semiotics is chosen with its both sides related to the narrative constituent to study the sample “the poem of DjamilButhaina”, trying to apply the emotional sample of the semiotics of passion in order to reveal the stages of emotion formation and its own evolution or development. All the previous within the framework to study the emotion because the latter is considered as an effective motivator of the action.

Abstract (sommario):
Various factors can influence the polyphenol content and the antioxidant capacity of ciders, such as the apple variety, its degree of maturity, apple farming and storage conditions, and the cider-fermentation method, all of which explains why ciders of different origin present different values. In addition, digestive processes could have some effects on the properties of cider. Hence, the objective of this study is to characterize Spanish ciders in terms of their polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity and to ascertain whether those same properties differ in digested ciders. In total, 19 ciders were studied from three different zones within Spain: Asturias (A) (10), the Basque Country (BC) (6), and Castile-and-Leon (CL) (3). A range of assays was used to determine the total polyphenol content and the antioxidant capacity of the ciders. In addition, a digestive process was simulated in vitro, assessing whether the use of amylase might influence the recovery of bioactive compounds after digestion. The Basque Country ciders presented higher total polyphenol contents (830 ± 179 GAE/L) and higher antioxidant capacities (DPPH: 5.4 ± 1.6 mmol TE/L; ABTS: 6.5 ± 2.0 mmol TE/L; FRAP: 6.9 ± 1.6 mmol TE/L) than the other ciders that were studied. The in vitro digestion process, regardless of the use of amylase, implied a loss of phenolic compounds (598 ± 239 mg GAE/L undigested samples; 466 ± 146 mg GAE/L digested without amylase samples; 420 ± 115 mg GAE/L digested with amylase samples), although the variation in antioxidant activity depended on the assay chosen for its determination.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract It is argued that educational spaces often maintain certain forms of hierarchical cultural patterns to reproduce an unequal civil society. The history and contemporary nature of Indian civil society, ridden with relations of caste and class, often interpellates its agenda of hierarchical order in the cultures of schooling. Children from marginalized communities, particularly from the Adivasi (tribal) cultures, are more vulnerable to these undercurrents, and this often results in their dispirited autonomous participation in schooling. The content and nature of the curriculum and modes of pedagogical interactions are the focal channels of its operationalization. In recent times and earlier, various forms of contestations had emerged against this dominant agenda, particularly from subaltern contexts. These took the form of democratic resistances seeking to establish democratic cultures in classrooms and schools (Apple C James, 2007; Darder et.al, 2009). Creating a sphere of this order would promise to enable children to become transformative human beings and autonomous intellectuals. Viewing the regime of education as both liberatory and oppressive (McLaren, 2009), this paper is an attempt to engage with democratic concerns in the realm of schooling in India within the relations of culture, knowledge and its politics.

Abstract (sommario):
"In the information society, the concept of IL is at the center of educational research. In higher education, university teachers and students need to keep up with current research trends in the application of IL skills. The generation, processing and storage of information has never been more marked in any age, as Manuel Castel writes in his work The World of Knowledge. Information therefore determines all aspects of life, and it is therefore necessary for those who choose a career in the intellectual field to be equipped with information skills. An information literate individual is able to recognise when and where information is needed, to find it, analyse it and apply it successfully. To be considered information-literate a person must be able to recognize the need for information and assess its scope, to locate information quickly and efficiently from a variety of sources and databases. He/she must be able to evaluate information and sources, and be able to organise and process information or create new knowledge, recognise and solve problems. After reviewed the studies and research on information literacy, a questionnaire survey of a sample of 230 university students in Hungary was used to assess students' information literacy. This paper presents the main results of the survey. "

Abstract (sommario):
The term 'Honour Killing' is conventionally used to denote a specific category of extralegal killings where the act of murder is seen to have been motivated by pre-modern affiliations/sentiments of some sort. Acts of violence committed against people for marrying outside of caste/religion/ethnicity or other similar infringements where they are seen by their actions to have besmirched the honour of the family and the larger community come under the broad rubric of honour crime. Implicit in using the term are assumptions that mark it as different from other crimes. Honour is defined in terms of women assigned sexual and familial roles as dictated by traditional family ideology. Thus, adultery, premarital relationships (which may or may not include sexual relations), rape, and falling in love with an "inappropriate" person may constitute violations of family honour. 'Crimes of honour' as a form of violence against women does not imply that men also are not subjected to such crimes. In cases of forced marriage or interference with the right of choice and whom to marry, pressure from older family members over younger members will apply to men as well as to women. However, women remain the victims and survivors of 'crimes of honour' and have fewer available remedies.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Spray trials were conducted in Kent and New Castle Counties, DE, and Salem and Cumberland Counties, NJ. Treatments consisted of oil-based isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis formulated as Condor OF and Dipel 8 L diluted with water, Condor OF applied undiluted and an untreated control. Treatments were replicated five times in a randomized complete block. Woodlots were 10-84 acreas in size and consisted of isolated stands. Fifteen 0.025-acre fixed radius plots were established within each woodlot where treatment effects were measured. A Grumman Ag-Cat 600 aircraft equipped with eight AU-5000 Micronair rotary atomizers on a standard spray boom was used to apply the treatments. All B. thuringiensis formulations were applied at 20 billion international units (BIU)/acre (40 oz formulation/acre). For the diluted applications, Condor and Dipel were applied at a volumetric rate of 128 oz/acre including 2% (v/v) Bond (Loveland Industries, Inc.) as a sticker. The aircraft was operated at an airspeed of 90 mph on a 75 ft swath width, about 50 ft above the forest canopy. The pump pressure was 40 psi and the variable restrictor unit on the nozzles was set at 9 and 5 for the diluted and undiluted applications, respectively. The blade angle on the nozzles nearest the fuselage was set at 65 and 35°, and 70 and 35° for the other six nozzles on the boom, for the diluted and undiluted applications, respectively. Woodlots were treated on 22 and 27 May in Delaware and New Jersey, respectively, when GM was predominately 3rd instar. Pre- (Spring) and postspray (Fall) egg mass counts were made within each of the 15 subplots. GM larvae were counted under burlap bands placed on one dominant preferred tree 25 ft outside each 0.025- acre plot. Estimates of feeding damage were based on examination of each burlapped tree and were rated in one of seven classes: 1, 0%; 2, 1-5%; 3, 6-10%; 4, 11-25%; 5, 26-50%; 6, 51-75%; and 7, >75.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this study is to identify the difference between WELL Building Standard (WELL) and CASBEE-wellness office (CWO) for well-being and to provide a key to apply them effectively. The research methodology can be summarized into two steps. The first step is to compare the WELL and CWO to identify the strengths of these certifications. The second step is to conduct interviews with construction firms which obtain WELL certification and CWO, suppliers, and a consultant which provide these certifications. The results of the investigation show that WELL is focused on both building environment and services. On the other hand, CWO affects buildings more than services for workers. In addition, according to the results of the interviews, CWO has not been introduced by owners because the effects of the certification have not proven. The effects of CWO should be obvious just as they are in WELL. If the thresholds of CWO are fixed, the certification should be used as the well-being certification that affects buildings strongly in the first step when the project starts. We concluded that both certifications will be utilized effectively by using their strengths.

Abstract (sommario):
The Problem Diversity and gender are contested topics in India. Although diversity means many things to many people, the meanings associated with diversity and the approaches to diversity management in India influence and are influenced by power structures and sociocultural values. Similarly, the intersection of gender with other diversity factors, such as caste, religion, or age, makes gender inequality a complex challenge in India. In the wake of globalization and changing nature of work, human resource development (HRD) professionals are faced with an ambitious task of unraveling these complexities and identifying effective ways to manage diversity and promote gender equality in organizations and in the Indian society at large. The Solution This issue is a significant step forward toward advancing gender and diversity theories and conceptual models and frameworks within the underlying sociocultural assumptions and beliefs in India. In doing so, the articles in this issue guide HRD professionals to undertake a multipronged (i.e., organizational, societal, national) and a critical inquiry into the challenges posed by gender and diversity in India. The Stakeholders HRD scholars and practitioners interested in research on global or international HRD would benefit from the theoretical and empirical work presented in this issue. Particularly, those who are interested in understanding the complex challenges posed by gender and diversity in India would learn how HRD models and theories apply to the unique sociocultural context of India. Also, the scholars from other social science disciplines who work on topics of diversity and gender would get a glimpse of how these topics manifest in an emerging economy like India.

Abstract (sommario):
This study aims to: (1) describe the description of slavery in Bulukumba; (2) analyze the review of Islamic law against slavery in Bulukumba with the system of awarding the title Ata. This research is a qualitative research using library research and using a normative juridical approach. The results of the study show that: (1) slavery against Ata today is no longer the same as slavery during the kingdom, which was very thick with caste division and slavery. The current system of slavery against Ata is not much anymore and is slowly starting to fade due to the progress and developments of the times, but there are still some people in Bulukumba who apply the system of slavery against Ata because they adhere to customs and think that their slavery is legal because it is a tradition. hereditary; (2) slavery in Bulukumba with the system of giving the title Ata is an act that deprives human rights and freedoms because the essence of Islamic law aims to uphold human rights and equal rights between men and women. Islam does not discriminate against skin color and ethnicity, all are equal before Allah. Therefore, Islam is a religion that does not justify slavery by depriving human rights and freedoms, and doing injustice to others. This is similar to slavery that occurred in the Bulukumba community with the system of giving the nickname or title Ata to certain groups of people, then being enslaved for generations, which is a form of action that is not allowed in Islam.
