Abstract (sommario):

OBJETIVO: Avaliar se o aumento de iodo na dieta seria o fator desencadeante de tireopatias autoimunes na cidade de Santo André, SP. MÉTODOS: Determinou-se a iodúria em amostra isolada de 58 pacientes, divididos em quatro grupos e de 13 indivíduos normais (controles). RESULTADOS: Iodúria: grupo 1 - hipertireoidismo = 203,5 ± 152,71 µg/L (média ± DP); grupo 2 hipotireoidismo = 258,31 ± 148,2 µg/L; grupo 3 - tireodite crônica autoimune = 244,29 ± 191,6 µg/L; grupo 4 - amiodarona = 1.157,5 ± 261,8 µg/L; grupo 5 - controles = 262,31 ± 146,2 µg/L. Comparadas as médias da iodúria entre os cinco grupos, dos grupos 1, 2, 3 e 5 não apresentaram diferenças significantes (p > 0,05) e todos diferiram do grupo 4 (p < 0,05). A iodúria dos grupos 1, 2, 3 e 5, obtida em 2002 e 2003, não diferiram dos valores determinados em 1994 em escolares em Santo André. CONCLUSÃO: Este estudo evidencia que o iodo não deve ser considerado o agente responsável pelas tireopatias autoimunes em Santo André, e outros fatores ambientais devem ser investigados.

The fauna of Tydeidae of Western Siberia is reviewed. A total of 27 species from eight genera were found in Tyumen and Kurgan Regions. Two species, Lorryia sibiriensis n. sp. and L. speciosa n. sp. are described as new for science; Lorryia evansi Baker is recorded from Russia for the first time and redescribed based on materials from Tyumen Region; Lorryia paravarsoviensis (Momen and Lundqvist), L. subularoides Kaźmierski, L. arkadiensis Panou and Emmanouel, L. argutus (Kuznetsov and Petrov) n. comb., L. serpettae (Momen and Lundqvist) n. comb., L. szeptyckii (Kaźmierski) n. comb., L. filiformis (Momen and Lundqvist), L. grandiinsignia Kaźmierski, Nudilorryia obsequens Kaźmierski, Paralorryia formosa (André), Calotydeus edwardbakeri (Kaźmierski), Tydeus nieuwkerkeni André, T. spathulatus Oudemans and Metalorryia delicata (Kuznetsov) are recorded in Russia for the first time. After examination of the holotype of Paralorryia formosa Livshitz this species is moved to Nudilorryia. Morphological characters separating two closely related species, Lorryia catenulata (Thor) and L. polita Kuznetsov, are also provided.

Seven species in the genera Ctenotilla Bischoff, 1920, Cephalotilla Bischoff, 1920, Denistilla gen. n. (type species Mutilla pauli André, 1898), Lehritilla Lelej, 2005, and Williamstilla gen. n. (type species Ctenotilla guangdongensis Lelej, 1992) are reviewed and two new genera are described. New combinations are proposed for Cephalotilla porcella (Turner, 1911), comb. n., Denistilla pauli (André, 1898), comb. n., Lehritilla ianthis (Turner, 1911), comb. n., L. locascioi (Lelej, 2005), comb. n., and Williamstilla guangdongensis (Lelej, 1992), comb. n. The genus Cephalotilla is newly recorded from Oriental Region, the genus Pristomutilla Ashmead, 1903 is excluded from Oriental fauna. Denistilla pauli (André, 1898) is newly recorded from India. Keys to the seven species of one Palaearctic and four Oriental genera are provided.

Amour/Crime/Révolution d'André Brochu à la fois comme prolongement du travail critique de l'auteur sur la littérature québécoise et comme manifestation d'une appropriation de la littérature et de la nouvelle critique françaises. Brochu a d'ailleurs vu dans cet ouvrage l'aboutissement de ses recherches sur l'" imagination thématique et formelle - des textes et la réalisation de ses ambitions théoriques (relier l'étude du "champ thématique" à celle des "motifs poétiques", des "conceptions idéologiques" et des 'Structures narratives" complexes). Il s'agit ici de montrer que le Hugo représente un moment clé de l'itinéraire de Brochu, réalisant "en concentré" le programme que celui-ci n 'aura eu de cesse, tout au long des trente dernières années, de poser à l'horizon de la critique littéraire québécoise.

Abstract (sommario):

Urban sprawl poses a significant threat to urban stream water quality due to impermeabilization, reduced vegetation cover, and the release of diffuse pollutants. This study evaluates water quality in seven catchments in Santo André, SP, considering seasonality. Nutrient concentrations and in situ measurements were taken during both dry and rainy seasons. Comparisons were made using Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests. Streams showed significant differences in relation to water quality parameters. The Carapetuba, Jundiaí, and Apiaí streams were most adversely affected, underscoring the need for urgent water quality intervention (water conductivity above 500 μS/cm, dissolved oxygen below 2 mg/L, total dissolved carbon above 50 mg/L, and total dissolved nitrogen above 25 mg/L). Significant differences were observed across seasons. The dry season showed elevated temperatures (above 25 °C) and increased total dissolved carbon (above 50 mg/L) and nitrogen concentrations (above 30 mg/L), indicating reduced dilution effects from rainfall and heightened organic contamination. Conversely, the wet season demonstrated lower nutrient concentrations, emphasizing seasonal dynamics. Sustained, long-term monitoring of urban streams in Santo André and the implementation of sewage collection and treatment in irregular settlements are recommended. These measures are essential to mitigate the adverse impacts of urban expansion on water quality.

Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) was grown for seed production after the seeding year on two different types of soils, in the same climatic area. An important difference in yield which was often related to cultivar and sometimes to year was observed between the two soils — the light soil, Saint-André gravelly loam, produced more seed than the heavy Kamouraska clay. Seed yield differed between cultivars with Florex and Arlington producing the most. On an annual basis, the thousand-grain weight was higher on Kamouraska than on Saint-André. The percent germination was not influenced by soil type and cultivar but variation between years was observed. The production of heads per plant was higher on Saint-André. The number of seeds produced per plant and per head was, as for yield, higher on Saint-André than Kamouraska. The influence of cultivars and years was not always visible on these last parameters. Therefore these results demonstrate that generally the success of red clover seed production depends not only on cultivar and climatic conditions, but that within the same climatic area the type of soil is a major factor. À propos de la revue Liberté, dont il a été un cofondateur, André Belleau a maintes fois réitéré son caractère « ouvert » — d’une ouverture toutefois paradoxale, à la fois accueillante à l’Autre et néanmoins centrée sur elle-même. Dans le présent article, il est question d’observer comment Belleau a composé avec l’« épreuve de l’étranger » (Berman) par le truchement de la référence à une tradition étrangère, en l’occurrence allemande. Au terme d’un parcours analytique qui puise principalement dans les archives de l’essayiste (notes préparatoires, premières versions, notes de lecture, plans de cours et notes de cours, etc.), il apparaît que, pour Belleau, le recours à l’Allemagne, plus patent dans les marges et dans le versant oral de sa pratique que dans l’oeuvre publiée, constitue l’une des voies de sortie possibles du déterminisme « selon lequel un Québécois ne parle toujours, en définitive, que du Québec » (Dumont). Cette sortie comporte toutefois le risque de s’isoler et de se retrouver sans communauté, comme les écrivains romantiques marginalisés des cités atomisées de l’Allemagne des xviiie et xixe siècles ; ce risque, Belleau aura sans cesse tenté de le circonvenir en négociant une « ouverture » à l’altérité dont la complexité est analysée ici.

Le concept d’ insistantialisme, construit dans son opposition à l’existentialisme sartrien, est un concept-clé de la singularité prospective de la philosophie d’André Comte-Sponville. Ce concept enveloppe, en premier lieu, la définition d’une métaphysique matérialiste du temps sur laquelle sont étayées une éthique, une politique et une esthétique. Malgré les nombreuses implications du concept, c’est essentiellement le conatus spinoziste qui sert à André Comte-Sponville de modèle opératoire pour sa conception du temps (comme durée ou duration du présent) et dans son explication de l’effort de l’être insistant ou, dit autrement, résistant . Cet article est le commentaire d’une métaphysique insistantialiste du temps ici éclairée par la mise à jour du dialogue, explicite et/ou implicite, qu’André Comte-Sponville entretient, au cours de ses écrits, avec Jean-Paul Sartre mais aussi avec Albert Camus (dont il prolonge la pensée tout en la radicalisant). Un dialogue continu et complexe qui permet de comprendre un des aspects importants de la genèse de l’œuvre d’André Comte-Sponville et, par là-même, la place originale de sa perspective philosophique dans l’histoire contemporaine des idées.

Abstract The north-eastern French city of Nancy is one of the centres of Art Nouveau. It has been analysed in detail in many classical reviews Art Nouveau, but mainly in relation to decorative applied art works produced at the Nancy School of Art. The study pays attention also to the Nancy architecture. The architectural and artistic qualities of the iconic Art Nouveau architectural monument Villa L. Majorelle are analysed in detail, and the basic data about works of É. André, H. Gutton, J. Hornecker, L. Weissenburger, and other Nancy architects are systematized, indicating their place both in the cityscape of Nancy and in the historical context of Art Nouveau architecture in general.

Abstract (sommario):

This article highlights the contradiction between theories of form in musicology (originating in the mechanistic and organicist definitions of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries), and new forms created by contemporary composers since circa 1970. The initial discussion introduces various “traditional” definitions of form in aesthetics, semiotics and musicology. Following this, a critique of the mechanistic approach, drawing on the work of André Souris, is presented. The third part discusses some recent scientific theories which composers have drawn from. The remainder of the article provides examples of the manifestation of new musical forms based on scientific theories such as the spiral, morphogenesis, fractal geometry, psychological-literary analysis, and L-systems.

Objectives. To explore the effective and safe medicines for treating diabetes. Methods. Hydroalcoholic extracts of 130 medicinal plants belonging to 66 families were evaluated using porcine pancreatic lipase (PPL) inhibition and glucose uptake methods together with a literature review. Results. The extracts of 22 species showed the PPL inhibition activity; 18 extracts of 15 species stimulated glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Among them, Mansonia gagei J.R. Drumm., Mesua ferrea L., and Centella asiatica (L.) Urb. exhibited both activities. The extracts of Caladium lindenii (André) Madison rhizomes and Azadirachta indica A. Juss. leaves presented the utmost lipase inhibitory activity with IC50 of 6.86 ± 0.25 and 11.46 ± 0.06 μg/mL, respectively. The extracts of Coptis teeta Wall. rhizomes and Croton tiglium L. seeds stimulated the maximum glucose uptake. Ten species are reported to have antidiabetic activity for the first time. Flavonoids and triterpenoids are the dominant antidiabetic compounds in selected medicinal plants from Myanmar. Conclusions. P. zeylanica, L. cubeba, H. crenulate, M. gagei, C. teeta, and M. ferrea are worthy to advance further study according to their strong antidiabetic activities and limited research on effects in in vivo animal studies, unclear chemical constitutes, and safety.

Using the IRAM 30-m telescope in August and December 1988, we have discovered the first molecular outflow in the central part (L1688) of the nearby ρ Ophiuchi dark cloud. This outflow, found in the J = 2 — 1 line of 12CO near the cloud core A, is an extreme case, weak (outflow mass-loss rate ≈ 5 x 10−8M⊙yr−1) and highly collimated (lenght to width ratio > 14), which explains why it has escaped previous detections with smaller telescopes. The high-velocity molecular gas is hot and optically thin, making the J = 2 — 1 line of 12CO ≈ 3-4 times stronger than the J = 1 — 0 line. Unexpectedly, this outflow does not appears to be driven by any of the embedded near-IR sources known in this region previous deep VLA surveys of the cloud (André, Montmerle, and Feigelson, 1987; Stine et al., 1988; André et al., in prep.). The outflow exciting source is thus probably a very low-luminosity ((L < 0.1L⊙) young stellar object. Using the 30-m equipped with the MPIfIR bolometer, we have very recently found (March 1989) that this object is the strongest continuum point source of L1688 at 1.3 mm. By analogy with L1551-IRS5 and HL Tau, the radio properties of this source suggest that it possesses a weak, possibly collimated, ionized wind and a relatively massive, cold circumstellar disk (Mdisk ≈0.1M⊙).

Poète du retour à l’antique qui investit l’Europe à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, André Chénier est aussi l’auteur de deux épopées «modernes», l’Hermès et L’Amérique, où il voyait son entreprise majeure. Sous sa plume, l’épique devient une exploration du savoir, sans se confondre pour autant avec la poésie didactique. Porteuses d’une visée philosophique héritée des Lumières, les deux œuvres déplacent les frontières du genre, en redéfinissant potentiellement ses contenus et ses codes. Potentiellement, puisqu’elles sont restées l’une et l’autre à l’état de chantier, preuve s’il en est des contradictions où elles sont enserrées, ce qui les rendait peut-être irréalisables. En effet, si l’objectif du poète est résolument moderne, la référence aux textes de l’Antiquité reste incontournable à ses yeux, comme modèles génériques et sources d’inspiration dont les modernes ne laissent pas d’être tributaires. L’épopée antique se prête-t-elle à définir l’épos auquel la modernité aspire?

Célébrer les anniversaires successifs de Dante peut apparaître comme un exercice académique dépourvu d’intérêt philosophique. Mais cette inscription de l’œuvre dans une succession de retours permet de rappeler la fonction de la circularité dans une construction mentale qui progresse depuis la conscience explicite de son incapacité à se constituer en cercle ( Vita nuova XII, 4), jusqu’à la célébration ultime de l’amour comme cercle accompli ( Par. XXXIII,143). En suivant cette voie d’inspiration géométrique et symbolique, il devient possible de se placer dans les pas de ceux qui ont célébré Dante en ses anniversaires, d’abord Victor Hugo et Saint-John Perse, pour tenter de prolonger leur effort de synthèse en un dialogue avec l’« éternel retour » selon Nietzsche et « La métamorphose des dieux » selon André Malraux.

Abstract Meeting and maintaining the proper watering requirements for indoor plants is a major obstacle to increased plant use in the home or office. Introduction of “self-watering” containers to the marketplace has been only marginally successful because of limited acceptability by consumers. Water use levels were determined for Codiaeum variegatum (L.) Blume ‘Petra’, Dieffenbachia maculata (Lodd) G. Don ‘Camille’, Dracaena fragrans (L.) Ker-Gawl. ‘Massangeana’, Epipremnum aureum (Linden & André) Bunt. ‘Golden Pothos’, Spathiphyllum (Schott.) ‘Gretchen’, and Syngonium podophyllum (Schott.) ‘White Butterfly’ established in self-watering containers and maintained under 2 light intensities commonly found in the home or office [12 and 24 μmol · s−l · m−2 (75 and 150 ft-c)]. Plant growth was better at 24 μmol · s−1 · m−2) (150 ft-c) than at 12 μmol · s−l · m−2 (75 ft-c) for all plants tested except Dieffenbachia, Dracaena and Spathiphyllum. Water utilization varied widely among plant genera, from a low of 1.4 ml H2O · cm−2 (0.3 oz · in−2) to a high of 4.8 ml H2O · cm−2 (1.0 oz · in−2) of leaf area over a 6-month period. All plants utilized more water at 24 μmol · s−1 · m−2 (150 ft-c) than at 12 μmol · s−1 · m−2 (75 ft-c) but water use was also dependent on plant genus and size.

A Serra do André Lopes localiza-se em um planalto cárstico composto por dolomitos (Mármore da Tapagem) no estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Na superfície, a água que escoa sobre as rochas carbonáticas é rica em carbonato de cálcio, o que possibilita a deposição de tufas. Para que ocorra essa deposição, a água deve ser cristalina, sem sedimentos em suspensão, que possa inibir a precipitação dos carbonatos e ter alta concentração de carbonato de cálcio dissolvido. Foram coletadas amostras de águas fluviais em 14 locais da Serra do André Lopes e região, para a análise de parâmetros hidroquímicos e isotópicos. A análise hidroquímica mostrou que essas águas têm alto teor de carbonato de cálcio (média de 179 mg/L), alta razão Mg/Ca (média de 0,88) e altos valores de pH (entre 8,18 e 8,71) e índice de saturação em relação à calcita (entre 0,1 e 1,04). A maioria das amostras das águas foram classificadas como cálcio magnesianas carbonatadas. Com base nos resultados foi possível concluir que as águas das drenagens onde ocorrem os depósitos de tufa são provenientes de recarga autóctone, com pouca ou nenhuma influência de águas alogênicas (provenientes de áreas não carbonáticas), sendo o fator preponderante para a deposição de tufas na região. Os resultados das análises isotópicas de d18O da água e do carbonato de cálcio das tufas mostraram que a influência da evaporação é praticamente nula na precipitação de calcita. A observação da deposição de tufa em equilíbrio isotópico, mostra que potenciais registros paleoclimáticos obtidos a partir dos depósitos antigos são relevantes.

Drawing on André Lefevere's rewriting theory, this paper endeavours to explore how Howard Goldblatt translates Mo Yan's novel Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out (hereafter referred to as L&D) with regard to patronage control by way of paratext analysis. Seven categories of patronage factors, including original author, translator, literary cooperative, publisher and editor, market expectancy, literary agent, and target reader, are identified as the objective of paratext analysis. Paratext analysis of these patronage factors provides greater insights into the unique attributes of Goldblatt's translation. The results show that apart from adhering to the target ideological and poetological currents in his translation, Goldblatt also excels in mediating between various patronage factors, striving to seek a balance among external power constraints, and finally producing a translation geared to the reader's expectation.

Souvent, une analyse du texte narratif se concentre sur les aspects des paroles des personnages, de la description et de la narration des épisodes et événements perçus de l‟extérieur. Or, l‟on sait à partir des travaux des théoriciens des textes narratifs des analyses psychologiques depuis des siècles que la vie intérieure des personnages compte beaucoup plus que l‟espace qui lui est accordée. Désormais, les textes narratifs seront mieux appréciés si les récits sont abordés en tenant compte des possibilités différentes mais fascinantes qu‟ils offrent pour les études littéraires. C‟est ce que démontrent les travaux des théoriciens tels que Léon Edel (1961) et plus tard Dorrit Cohn (1981) dont nous nous inspirons pour cette étude. Notre attention s‟arrête sur deux romans de la littérature française, Vol de nuit d‟Antoine de Saint-Exupéry et La Condition humaine d‟André Malraux respectivement. Classés, l‟un comme l‟autre parmi les romans d‟aventures, ces deux textes peuvent également être recensés dans les rangs des romans d‟action étant donné qu‟ils représentent des aventures de différents domaines. De la sorte, l‟on s‟attendra à voir les deux romans composés à profusion d‟épisodes et d‟événements. Toutefois, cela n‟est pas le cas comme ils regorgent chacun, une quantité conséquente de récits de l‟univers intérieur. D‟où l‟intérêt grandissant d‟examiner ce qu‟ils peuvent offrir du côté des représentations de la vie intérieure. En nous inspirant des théories narratologiques, nous comptons prêter le schéma proposé pour mener à bien cette prochaine étude des deux textes narratifs.

<p>Medium dasar dan amonium nitrat merupakan dua komponen penting yang berpengaruh besar terhadap keberhasilan kultur anther tanaman. Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh medium dasar dan konsentrasi amonium nitrat terhadap pembentukan, pertumbuhan, dan regenerasi kalus. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Kultur Jaringan, Balai Penelitian Tanaman Hias Segunung sejak Bulan Januari hingga Oktober 2008. Spadik Anthurium andraeanum Linden ex André kultivar Tropical dan kalus hasil regenerasinya digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Medium dasar yang digunakan dalam percobaan ini ialah: (1) ½ WT, (2) ½ NWT, dan (3) NWT, sedangkan konsentrasi amonium nitrat yang diaplikasikan ialah (1) 750 mg/l, (2) 550 mg/l, (3) 413 mg/l, (4) 206 mg/l, dan (5) 103 mg/l. Media penggandaan tunas (MP) pada percobaan ini ialah (1) 0,5 mg/l TDZ, 1,0 mg/l BAP, dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (sebagai kontrol, MP-1), (2) 1,0 mg/l TDZ, 1,0 mg/l BAP, dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (MP-2), (3) 1,5 mg/l TDZ, 1,0 mg/l BAP, dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (MP-3), (4) 1,0 mg/l TDZ, 1,5 mg/l BAP, dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (MP-4), (5) 0,5 mg/l TDZ, 2,0 mg/l BAP, dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (MP-5), (6) 1,0 mg/l BAP dan 0,01 mg/l NAA (MP-6), (7) 0,5 mg/l BAP (MP-7), dan (8) tanpa hormon (MP-8). Percobaan disusun menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAK) dan RAK pola faktorial dengan empat ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi amonium nitrat memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap induksi pembentukan kalus. Konsentrasi 750 mg/l pada ½ WT merupakan kombinasi terbaik dengan potensi tumbuh anther mencapai 54% dengan 38% regenerasi anther dan 2,3 kalus per perlakuan. Medium ½ WT dan 205 mg/l amonium nitrat merupakan kombinasi perlakuan terbaik untuk pertumbuhan kalus dan pembentukan tunas. Kombinasi ini mampu menstimulasi pertumbuhan kalus hingga 205 mm3 dengan jumlah tunas terbanyak mencapai 5,2 tunas per eksplan. Medium MP-3 (½ WT yang ditambah 1,5 mg/l TDZ, 1,0 mg/l BAP, dan 0,01 mg/l NAA) merupakan kombinasi hormon yang sesuai untuk penggandaan tunas hasil kultur anther Anthurium. Medium ½ WT yang ditambah dengan 0,02 mg/l NAA dapat digunakan untuk pengakaran tunas hingga membentuk planlet yang siap untuk aklimatisasi.</p>

Abstract Drawing on André Lefevere’s rewriting theory, this paper explores how Howard Goldblatt translates Mo Yan’s novel Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out (hereafter referred to as L&D) with regard to poetological manipulation. The paper analyses in detail how the translator rewrites the novel’s poetological features, including its unique linguistic, stylistic and narrative features, to produce a translation which is accessible to the intended audience. On the basis of this analysis, the paper identifies three characteristics of Goldblatt’s poetological rewriting: (1) macro-stylistic consistency with the source text, i.e. overall stylistic conformity to the original work; (2) simplification principle; (3) typical features of authentic English writing. The analysis reveals poetological manipulation in the translation process, from which we infer that rewriting in favour of the target poetological currents is the best way to achieve reader acceptance.

The knowledge of the solitary Vespidae of Uzbekistan is very poor and a preliminary list of species is provided. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity from six Indonesian ornamental plants have been studied. Those plants are Yellow Allamanda (Allamanda cathartica L.), Bigleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser.), Crystal Anthurium (Anthurium crystallinum Linden & André), Kapok Bush (Aerva sanguinolenta (L.) Blume), Siamese Calypha (Acalypha siamensis Oliv. Ex Gage), and Wishbone Flower/Bluewings (Torenia fournieri Linden ex E. Fourn). Extraction was carried out by maceration using ethanol as the extracting solvent. Total phenolic content was determined by the Folin Ciocalteu method. Antioxidant activity was measured using the 2.2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), reducing power, and cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) method. Based on the results obtained, Bigleaf Hydrangea has the highest yield and total phenolic content about 15.45% and 13.86 mg gallic acid/g dry powder respectively. Siamese Acalypha leaves have the highest antioxidant activity for all methods used namely DPPH, reducing power, and CUPRAC with a value of 180.45; 202,17; and 589.90 µmol trolox/g dry powder, respectively. This indicates that antioxidant activity is not only derived from phenolic compounds because Siamese Acalypha leaves which have lower total phenolic levels than Bigleaf Hydrangea leaves provide higher antioxidant capacity.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente estudo é investigar e analisar a diversidade florística de Dioscoreaceae na Reserva Biológica do Alto da Serra de Paranapiacaba para aumentar o conhecimento florístico de Dioscoreales desta unidade de conservação e do Estado de São Paulo. As coletas na Reserva foram realizadas entre 1978 até 2014; consultados os espécimes dos herbários B, BOTU, ESA, IAC, NY, R, RB, SP, SPF e UEC. Confirmamos a ocorrência de oito espécies deDioscorea L. da Floresta Atlântica da Serra do Mar. Destas,D. sanpaulensis e D. trilinguis já constam como espécies ameaçadas de extinção no Livro Vermelho da Flora do Brasil. Deve ser incluída agora a Dioscorea torticaulis, endêmica e rara na Reserva Biológica de Paranapiacaba. São apresentados a chave de identificação, descrições, ilustrações, comentários taxonômicos, geográficos e fenológicos.

Un exemple d'estimation et d'analyse de la sous-déclaration d'une pratique Dans le rapport ACSF, publié au début de l'année 1993, le pourcentage des femmes de 18 à 69 ans habitant en France qui avaient expérimenté au moins une fois la masturbation était estimé, par le moyen d'une question « directe », à 42 %. Le présent article montre, grâce à l'utilisation d'une question « indirecte », que 56 % des femmes au moins se sont déjà adonnées à cette pratique. La sous-déclaration mise en évidence est considérable aux jeunes âges : chez les 18-19 ans, ce sont ainsi 67 % des femmes - au lieu de 34 % - qui ont une expérience au moins minimale de la masturbation. Certains facteurs de cette sous- déclaration sont examinés, tels que l'effet enquêteur ou l'effet âge. La masturbation apparaît - si l'on accepte la nouvelle estimation ici proposée - comme une composante non pas marginale mais essentielle de l'« entrée en sexualité » de la majorité des jeunes femmes actuelles.

e15004 In C96.1 study (André T et al; J Clin Oncol. 2007 20;25:3732–8), patients were randomized to either monthly 5FU-LV hd (dl LV 200 mg/m2 or l LV 100 mg/m2 15 min iv followed by 5FU 400 mg/m2 15 min iv, d1–5 q4 wk) or LV5FU2 (dl LV 200 mg/m2 or l LV 100 mg/m2 2-hour infusion followed by iv bolus 5FU 400 mg/m2 and 22 hours continuous infusion 600 mg/m2, d1 and d2 q 2 wk). Form l LV was administered to 60% (n=519) of patients and dl LV to 40% (n=357) of patients. It was unknown in 29 patients. No randomization was made between form l or dl (It was the choice of each center). The aim of this analysis was to compare the 2 LV forms in term of safety and efficacy. Important prognostic characteristics were well balanced between the 2 groups. The proportion of any grade III-IV toxicity was 20% in l form and 17% in dl form. There was no difference in term of toxicity between the two groups, except a trend for more diarrhea grade 3–4 in form l (8% in l form vs 4% in dl form, p=0.07). The median follow-up time was 6.2 years in l form and 6.0 years in dl form. There were no statistically significant differences between l and dl forms in term of disease free survival (33.3% vs 32.8% of patients with at least one event in l and dl forms respectively, hazard ratio=1.03, 95% CI=[0.82–1.31], p=0.78). In term of overall survival, there was a trend without statistical significance in favor of l form (21.8% vs 25.5% of patients who died, hazard ratio=1.28, 95% CI=[0.97–1.69], p=0.078). We conclude that the toxicity profile is similar between the two forms (excepted diarrhea). The difference in overall survival should not be attributed to folinic acid form as no difference was observed on DFS. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

André Feil (1884–1955) was a French physician best recognized for his description, coauthored with Maurice Klippel, of patients with congenital fusion of cervical vertebrae, a condition currently known as Klippel-Feil syndrome. However, little is known about his background aside from the fact that he was a student of Klippel and a physician who took a keen interest in describing congenital anomalies. Despite the relative lack of information on Feil, his contributions to the fields of spinal disease and teratology extended far beyond science to play an integral role in changing the misguided perception shrouding patients with disfigurements, defects, deformities, and so-called monstrous births. In particular, Feil's 1919 medical school thesis on cervical abnormalities was a critical publication in defying long-held theory and opinion that human “monstrosities,” anomalies, developmental abnormalities, and altered congenital physicality were a consequence of sinful behavior or a reversion to a primitive state. Indeed, his thesis on a spinal deformity centering on his patient, L. Joseph, was at the vanguard for a new view of a patient as nothing less than fully human, no matter his or her physicality or appearance.

Abstract (sommario):

Cowpea is the main food leguminous plant grown in Niger. It is mainly cultivated for its protein-rich haulms and seeds and for its ability to improve soil fertility through its symbiosis with atmospheric nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The present study evaluated genetic variability among six cowpea varieties for yield, yield related and phenology traits in the Zinder region. The experiment was conducted at the experimental area of André Salifou University in Zinder. An experimental device composed of three completely random blocks was used. The six varieties (four local and two improved) of cowpea were evaluated based on 24 quantitative agronomic and morphological characters according to IBPGR descriptors. The comparison of the means and the PCA revealed significant differences between the varieties in almost all the traits tested, with substantial phenotypic variations. IT98 was the most productive variety, with an average yield of 385.50 kg/ha. It also recorded the earliest flowering (38.41 days after sowing) and maturity (55 days after sowing) dates. BlAr gave the highest 100-Seed weight with an average value of 29.21g. CDSb and BTAr were the tallest plants at 40.44 and 40.26 cm respectively. The completed PCA indicates that the first two axes expressed 78,7% of the total variability whereby PC1 and PC2 highly contributed to the total variation at 54.76% and 23.94, respectively. Thus, IT98 may be a good candidate to be considered in Niger struggle to fight food shortage and face nutrition challenges, especially for the Zinder region due to abiotic constraints.
